A good amount of offset in irons is viewed as helpful but is often eschewed in wedges. That’s curious because the same theory should hold—that offset makes it easier to square the face. PGA Tour Champions legend Bernhard Langer worked with Tour Edge to develop this wedge with a noticeable three millimeters of offset. Extra weight high in a wing toward the toe section raises the center of gravity. The higher CG helps flatten trajectory and control spin. Thermoplastic polyurethane inserts low in the back body save mass and help to create a softer feel by absorbing unwanted vibration.

3 COOL THINGS

1. A rare focus on playability from a legend. Offset is a pretty regular feature that can make irons feel more playable, particularly for average golfers. But it’s rarely talked about in wedges. Still, the same theory should hold—namely, that it makes it easier to square the face, and with a properly forgiving sole design can make it easier for excessively steep or shallow swings to make cleaner contact. In that vein, the Wingman wedges feature a distinctive 3 millimeters offset (many top wedges have virtually no offset). The idea came from Tour Edge staff player and all-time PGA Tour Champions victory leader Bernhard Langer, who worked with Tour Edge founder and chief designer David Glod and recently put a Wingman wedge prototype in play.

“I am always looking for a forged wedge with the right amount of offset,” Langer said. “What came back has astounded me with its performance. I put one right into play the week I tested it because I could just tell that the design was easier to hit and more consistent than my other wedges.”

2. The highs and lows of the weighting game. The Wingman design, as the name implies, focuses on extra weight high in a wing towards the toe section to raise the center of gravity. That higher CG helps to flatten trajectory and control spin. The middle of the design is thinned out a little to make that extra mass in the toe available, but the Wingman also utilizes a different kind of weight feature behind the face. The thermoplastic polyurethane inserts low in the back body, known as “VIBRCOR,” save additional mass and help to create a softer feel by absorbing unwanted vibration. That polymer has been used on past Tour Edge Exotics irons, like the E723.

3. More options, more playability. The 16 bounce/loft options give more choices to find the right sole shaping for each player’s game and course conditions. That’s precisely how the grind options are defined. The F/S grind is for firm (F) conditions and players who have more of a sweeping (S) stroke. The lower bounce, particularly on the trailing side of the sole helps keep the leading edge closer to the ground. The M/N grind targets those who play in a variety of ground conditions with more of a neutral attack angle into the ball. Every M/N grind features 10 degrees of bounce. Finally, the S/D grind (“soft digger”) should be best for players whose typical course features softer turf or sand conditions and whose attack angle is steeper.

Further helping playability on the Wingman wedges is a larger overall face, and special friction features, including milled grooves, milled micro-grooves on the flat areas between the scorelines and additional diagonal milling lines in the toe to improve friction on open-face shots.

Some players have a problem with lifting the front of the club on delivery and bouncing off the back edge of the sole. The MG stands for Milled Grind, and the 2 is the upgrade from the original.

TaylorMade’s patented Raw Face technology is one of the most innovative developments in recent years. The raw face tends to rust over time, while the rest of the face maintains its original finish. The rusted portion tends to center the ball nicely and, as it wears, shows where you predominantly strike the ball. In this respect, it is similar to the Jaws Full Toe as it, too, features a raw face.

When you purchase your brand-new MG2, it will have a sealed airtight cover over the face. Once removed, oxidation starts to take effect. The theory is that the rusting will increase the grip on the ball and, thereby the degree of spin that will be generated. However, this is somewhat speculative. In our experience, spin levels were similar out of the box compared to when the face was rusty, therefore, this may be a bit of a marketing gimmick.

To some, this may be a big turn-off. After all, the rusty face does hurt the physical appeal of the club somewhat, as it otherwise looks very sophisticated.

In addition to the Raw Face technology, TaylorMade also uses Groove technology . Deeper grooves are cut within the existing groove and then further enhanced with laser-cut grooving in between. These new ZTP 17 grooves have a steeper sidewall and sharper edges.

To eliminate the inconsistency of hand-grind finishing of the club, TaylorMade has perfected the machine-grind to ensure that each club has consistent performance and interaction with the turf, with great feel and feedback.

The weight has been redistributed, giving a thick-thin effect to the wedge and enabling the optimum location for the center of gravity. What is known as a TPU insert has been placed in the back cavity of the club, designed to absorb vibration on impact. This further enhances the feel and performance of the wedge. The Wilson Harmonized wedge has a classic blade shape with a high-polish finish and looks perfect in your bag. Although the Groove-in-Groove technology is not featured, the grooves are still aggressive and really grip the ball. The club is very versatile and displays great backspin and ball-stopping ability.

The True Temper steel blades are high performers with great reliability and durability. However, as the club is affordable, you don’t get some of the high-end features we see from other models. For instance, you cannot get graphite shafts, and also we found the grip to be of comparatively poor quality.

The modified bounce angle on the blade shape enhances the versatility and provides the required stopping spin from the fairway, rough, or sand.

The sole grind is designed to allow for the club face to be opened when you need a good lift out of a deep bunker or over an obstacle.

This wedge is specifically built for the high to mid-handicap golfer , especially for those with a slower swing speed. With this in mind, the shaft is a mid-weight steel shaft with standard steel wedge flex. Despite its low price tag, it’s still one of the best 60-degree wedges 2024 has to offer.

Unsurprisingly, this CBX Full Face also features an extended toe with edge-to-edge grooves, as the name suggests. The Jaws Full Toe is the only other wedge on this list to feature full-face grooves.

This larger face design, allowing the grooves to be extended, makes this club much more versatile. You will feel far more confident facing some of those tricky greenside shots that have hurt your scorecard in the past. The high toe profile allows you to be more aggressive as it slides in under the ball. However, I should note that full-face grooves are not for all. Select players may struggle with alignment.

The Cleveland CBX Full Face wedge is designed with a half-blade, half-cavity head. The cavity is near the heel, and the weight, or muscle, is out toward the toe. This positions the center of gravity away from the heel and closer to the strike pattern, enhancing feel and consistency.

The high-tech face displays Cleveland’s Rotex milling, laser milling, and Zip Grooves, which are standard in all Cleveland wedges. Also standard is the grip and spin delivered from these clubs and the greater forgiveness than much of the competition.

The last important feature is the low C-shape sole design. Our testing showed that open-face shots were far more effective and easier to execute.

Taking this club out on the course, you will find it will perform equally well, not only around the green but also from the bunkers and out of the rough. Most golfing brands that make the best lob wedges have a 60-degree wedge that could be added to your bag, but how can you know which is right for you?

Ideally, there should be about a 4-degree gap from your 3-iron down to your wedges, so the first thing to check is the lofts of your current irons.

“Sole grind” is a good feature to look for. It is the shaping the manufacturer applies around the heel and toe of the club. The grind is done by machine and shapes the club to enhance the ability to cut through the turf better.

You should also consider the shaft and finish. Most wedges have steel shafts as you are not making full shots and don’t need the flex, but some manufacturers may offer alternatives. The finish and durability are also important as this is going to ensure it stays in your bag for years.

When to Use a 60-Degree Wedge

The 60-degree lob wedge will really come into its own on courses with a lot of hazards. Or with high-handicap golfers who may find themselves in the rough or bunker a bit too often. It is great for getting over obstacles such as trees, water, and bunkers, because of its superior trajectory control.

Often this lob wedge could be preferred to the sand wedge for bunker shots, especially if the bunker also has a high lip. The extra loft will lift the ball over the lip and put it down gently on the green.

Imagine your ball has run through the green with the pin at the back, leaving you no green to work with. This is known as being on the ‘short side.’ The lob wedge will get the ball airborne quickly and drop it softly on the green. The roll could be 3 or 4 feet, but your pitching wedge would probably have rolled 10 feet or more.

An elevated green is another tricky situation to face, as there is always a good chance of running through the green into a bunker or rough. Again, the lob wedge can get you in the air with a soft landing.

You should seldom play this wedge as a full shot as you might lose accuracy. In most situations, it would only require a 50-75% swing.

A traditional full set of irons would usually include a pitching wedge and a sand wedge. But as golf has evolved over the years and precision has become paramount, two more wedge options have been added as an option. Many professional golfers carry all four variants in their bags, depending on the type of course they play.

As you may have guessed from the above, many golfers choose to forgo a traditional sand wedge in favor of a 60-degree wedge. If you need to save some space in your bag, this is definitely a viable option. The opposite is also true to a lesser extent. You could use a sand wedge for a similar purpose as a 60.

Best 60-Degree Wedges Frequently Asked Questions

The best time to use your 60 degree wedge is for an approach shot, especially if the green is small or raised. The high loft allows for minimal roll after landing. They also make great sand wedges.

A range between about 60 and 100 yards is about right for a 60 degree wedge. Just remember 60 yards for 60 degrees.

The Tour Edge Exotics Wingman wedge is a very strong performer with a trio of versatile sole options.  Bold look and average-sized footprint.  Good feel and excellent sound.

Introduction

When I think of Tour Edge Exotics, I think of distance.  After initially building their name on cutting edge fairway woods, they’ve expanded to a full range of long game clubs that are among the best.  To expand into the wedge game, TEE turned to their most successful spokesman, Bernhard Langer, for input.  The result is the Tour Edge Exotics Wingman wedge.

When most OEMs talk about a wedge being “Tour-inspired,” it’s another way of saying that it’s going to be very small.  That’s not the case with the Tour Edge Exotics Wingman wedge.  These wedges are average in size if not a touch larger.

The other surprising characteristic is the offset.  According to TEE’s specs, every wedge has 3mm of offset .  For comparison, that’s as much or more than some players irons have at the 5I.  This isn’t inherently good or bad – no single specification is – but it is unusual in a wedge with Tour input.

Unlike many current wedges, the shaping of the Tour Edge Exotics Wingman wedge stays consistent across lofts .  The leading edge has a very gentle rounding, and the overall head shape is closer to round than teardrop.

In the bag, the Wingman has a bold appearance .  The Wingman branding covers much of the toe, balanced against Tour Edge Exotics branding toward the heel.  At the center of the top of the wedge, there’s a round, removable weight surrounded by Vibrcor pockets.  In the midst of all that, what can escape notice is the significant change in thickness across the back of the blade.

Sound & Feel

While the look of the Tour Edge Exotics Wingman wedge does not play by the “Tour” rules, the feel certainly does.  Soft on center , this wedge produces a firmer feel if you miss the mark.  Feedback through the hands is clear and precise , allowing you to dial in your ball striking.

The sound of impact is extremely pleasant .  Medium in volume, it’s too full, gentle, and round to be a “click” but too clear to be a “thud.”  This is the impact of the Vibrcor TPU.  Audio feedback is much more subtle than the feel.

Performance

As is often the case, Tour Edge Exotics has given me a lot to talk about from a performance perspective.  Starting with the soles , there are three options in the Wingman Wedge – F/S (Firm/Shallow), M/N (Medium/Neutral), and S/D (Soft/Deep).  F/S has the least bounce and the most relief on the trailing edge, heel, and toe.  S/D has the most bounce and very limited relief.  M/N is in the middle.

I was able to test all three soles and found some common traits among them.  In all three – even the F/S with 6 degrees of bounce – I felt that leading edge rose off the turf fairly quickly when I opened the face.  However, all three wedges slid under the ball easily , even on mats.  Best of all, all three wedges noticeably fought their way out of the turf , even in soft, sloppy lies.  To me, this illustrates that bounce is not a be-all-end-all measurement, just one factor to be considered.

One final point on the soles: please don’t take the previous paragraph to say that there’s not a meaningful difference between the three grinds.  I could definitely tell the difference between the amount of bounce in the S/D compared to the F/S, but I wanted to convey that all three are quite good at bailing golfers out on those chunky swings.

The next performance feature that bears discussion is the Milled High-Toe Pad.  This refers to the thicker top of the wedge, something we’ve seen from several OEMs in the last couple years.  The purpose behind this design is raising the center of gravity to lower launch and increase spin.  In my testing, the higher CG combined with the Triple-Traction Milled Face to produce spin that was on the high side of average .  Launch angles were slightly lower than average for a controlled, Tour-preferred ball flight .

Finally, Tour Edge Exotics included something we rarely see in wedges: adjustable weights .  The weight in the center of the head comes stock at 5 grams.  Weights of 2.5, 7.5, 10, and 12.5 grams are available to customize the swing weight and feel of the club.  This will be particularly valuable to players who want to use a shaft other than the stock Dynamic Gold 115.

The Tour Edge Exotics Wingman wedge blends a variety of interesting performance characteristics to create a wedge unlike anything else I’ve tested.  If you’re looking for a higher CG and some forgiveness paired with a larger footprint and noticeable offset, get to your fitter to find the best combination of lofts and sole grinds for your short game.

I’m wondering if the weight (bulge) at the top of the weight is actually removable/swappable, but I’m not seeing it that way in the photos and assume the first quote provided is referring to the section just above the sole, if the club is held in the playing position. I have been wondering when a removable/swappable weight option at the top of the back of the wedge head will become available.

They do not. In the former, I’m referring to the “top” when the wedge is in the bag as I’m discussing the in the bag look of the wedge. The latter refers to the top of the blade, the top when it’s in a playing position.

Yes, full swings are part of every wedge review. They performed well – slightly lower launch and higher spin than average.

I apologize if I missed it in your review, but is the Wingman Wedge cast or forged? There is no photo of the hostel where OEMs sometimes tell us if it’s forged, and the use of TPU (VibRcore) for vibration dampening is no longer a reliable indicator. Thanks for a very solid review. Cheers…

At the top of our list is the TaylorMade Golf MG2 wedge . This is a raw face design, something that golfers may not be used to, but it is causing quite the stir in the game of golf.

The raw face on this golf club will rust, but the rest of the club will stay perfectly shiny. Having the face raw like this allows for a better spin and feel coming off the clubface.

The grooves on the MG2 wedge are laser etched for increased precision . In the years past, the best wedges had the best grooves. Now there are grooves within grooves and unique treatments done between each groove as well.

The wedge game has gotten a lot more precise and a lot more complicated. Between the grooves of the MG2, you will find a much rougher surface that gives the club plenty of grip on a ball and creates quite a bit of spin around the greens.

The MG2 is offered in two finishes, a black, and satin chrome. Although both finishes look great, we are a bit partial to the black, it is a very sleek looking wedge and works great at preventing any glare around the greens or in a bunker as well.

TaylorMade put what they call a TPU insert in the MG2 wedges. This insert is designed to absorb some vibration at impact. The insert allows the club to have an amazingly soft feel while still getting plenty of spin on your shots.

In the sixty loft, you can get either ten degrees of bounce or eight degrees of bounce. The MG2 also comes in other lofts. There is a 58 wedge as well if that works better for proper loft progression in your golf set.

This is a milled grind club with tremendous precision in its design. If you are looking to chip or pitch the ball this one will work for you. It is not merely just for high lofted shots around the green. The sole grinds for the MG2 wedges are just standard.

They wanted to make something that was versatile and work for players of all handicap levels. We like that this makes the buying process a little less complicated.

The CBX Full is a brand new release from Cleveland golf. This wedge builds on the success of the CBX series throughout the last few years. This wedge has a high toe profile , and it is a mix between a cavity back and a blade. We like that change from the original CBX that was a full cavity back wedge.

The CbX Full Face has a wide sole , and it is built to help the golfers trying to add flop shots to their game. Considering flop shots are one of the best ways to use lob wedges, this club had to come in close to the top of our list.

This wedge is quite versatile, allowing players to open the club up or close it down, depending on the shots that they would like to hit. For those of you that have fallen in love with the Cleveland wedges because of their Tour Zip Grooves , you won’t need to worry; they are still around.

If you thought Callaway would miss the top three when it comes to amazing wedges, you were wrong! The Mack Daddy series of golf wedges have been around for a few years now, but there are some of the best technology available.

The Callaway wedges create more spin than many of the competitors because of their Groove-In-Groove technology . This is just like it sounds, grooves inside of grooves. If you want some excellent traction on the ball and the ability to spin it however you want, this is the wedge for you.

We like the feel of the Callaway wedges because of the soft carbon steel used to produce this club. You can get the Mack Daddy 4 wedges in either a platinum chrome or a matte black finish. Both look and feel great on this classic looking design.

The bounce, lofts, and grinds on these Callaway Mack Daddy wedges vary greatly. There are tons of combinations , but the lob wedge is perfect for the player looking for a substantial all-around addition to their short game.

These wedges were heavily influenced by tour professionals, and for that reason, we feel as though they are going to appeal most to the mid to low handicapper. They may not have the level of forgiveness that a higher handicapper may want in their bag.

Golf wedges don’t come too much cheaper than the Wilson Harmonized wedge . If you have been thinking about adding a lob wedge to your bag but are afraid to purchase for fear of not using the club, give the Wilson Harmonized a shot.

This is by no means going to be a top of the line wedge with groove in groove technology or tour turf interaction etc. However, this wedge is going to give you some great value at the lofts you may be missing in your game.

If you feel you can’t get your shots to stop short enough, or bunker shots with a high lip have you struggling, the Wilson Harmonized wedges can help. This is a very classic looking design . The Wilson Harmonized wedge comes in a high polish finish , and although it is a bit shiny for us, for the price, it will do.

This wedge comes with a steel true temper shaft perfect for the mid to high handicapper swinging at a medium pace. When we did our review of the Callaway Mack Daddy wedge, we mentioned all of the different bounce and grind combinations.

With the Harmonized, all you need to choose is your loft. The bounce and grind are entirely versatile, and you can open or close this club up to make it whatever you want it to be.

Best 60 Degree Wedge for High Handicappers

Most great wedges are going to come in a blade-style design. The blade-style helps players get a clean and crisp shot and plenty of workability around the greens.

For many higher handicap players, the blade style wedge does not offer enough forgiveness. If this describes your game, then you may want to look at the Cleveland CBX 2 . 

Many higher handicap players think that they should not carry a 60-degree wedge. This is not at all the case. Higher handicap players can do quite well with these wedges in their bags as long as they know how to use them properly.

The CBX 2 makes the transition into these more difficult-to-hit wedges relatively easier. 

The overall design of the club is a hollow cavity design . This means that you will get some forgiveness in addition to the spin and feel that you get with this wedge. Cleveland inserted a feel balancing piece into the club head to help reduce vibration and increase the feel.

There are some critical factors to consider in choosing a 60 degree lob wedge that you should consider prior to purchasing.

How Far Should A Sixty Degree Wedge Go?

If you are getting a lob wedge to fill a gap in your bag as far as a certain distance is concerned, it may not be the best choice. Lob wedges can be used for full swings, but really you should use these wedges to focus on the shorter shots. A complete swing lob wedge is not the most accurate and reliable shot in golf.

If you need the exact yardage of how far a 60 will go, you can estimate it will be about ten yards less than your 56. Again, we do not recommend it, especially for high handicappers.

What Is The Easiest Wedge To Hit?

The easiest wedge to hit is the club you are most comfortable with. Some people enjoy hitting a bump and run shot with their pitching wedge , others like a mid-level shot with a 56, and some prefer to fly everything as close as possible to the pin with a sixty and get it to stop real close.

Lob wedges often get a bad name for being one of the more difficult clubs to hit. This wedge is no more difficult to hit than any other club in your bag; you just have to make sure you have the correct sole grinds and bounce for your game.

The most common miss you will see with the lob wedges is hitting it thin. If you hit it thin, it’s probably because the club bounced along the ground, and you didn’t hit down and through the shot.

Although these lob wedges or sixty-degree wedges are not difficult to hit, you must practice your confidence with this wedge.

Confidence is the most critical thing in the short game. When confidence decreases, so will swing speed. If your swing speed decreases as you move into the impact zone, anything can happen!

What Are Sixty Degree Wedges Used For?

One of the most interesting things that golf professionals will tell you is that the majority of amateur golfers have no idea what to use a sixty-degree wedge for. You may think that it is used to help you hit a high flop shot around the green, but it can be so much more than that.

Perhaps the most useful shot that you can hit with a lob wedge is the short bunker shot out of a high lip bunker. Just because your sand wedge has an S on it does not mean it is the only club you can hit out of a bunker. In fact, many professional golfers prefer a higher lofted club out of the bunker. Using a 60 is a great option to get the ball up high and have it stop very quickly.

Outside of the high lofted bunker shot, you can also use this wedge to hit short high chips when you short-side yourself. When the pin is three paces off the back of the green and your shot rolls over the end of the green this is called short siding yourself.

At this point, you have to figure out a way to get the ball to stop quickly. The 60 is an excellent option for that and your best chance to get the ball to stay anywhere near the pin.

What Lofts Should I Carry?

This is a prevalent question, and there is no perfect answer. Choosing the lofts for your wedges will primarily be based on the lofts of your irons. Ideally, you want to choose a set that works well to create the most consistent gaps between each club.

If, for instance, your pitching wedge is 46 degrees. You would likely look for a setup that is 52,56 and 60. However, if you have a pitching wedge that is 43 degrees, you may need to change things up and go with 48, 54, 58.

When you are purchasing a wedge, always consider the pitching wedge prior to making your final decision on lofts.

What Bounce Should I Get In A Lob Wedge?

Most great players agree that if you need a versatile lob wedge in your bag, you should look for something that has around 8-10 degrees of bounce.

This seems to be the right amount to get the club to dig in just enough but avoid it sinking in too far. Ultimately it will come down to personal preference, golf course conditions, and your skills.

Getting the ball up in the air quickly and getting it to stop immediately is not easy. The only thing that can help us to do this properly is loft and spin. Choosing a great sixty-degree lob wedge is all about choosing something that has the specifications you need to get the ball into the air fast.

The options we reviewed are going to help a wide range of players, but we still believe that the TaylorMade MG2 wedges are your best overall option. The MG2 provides so much feel and precision; it is just hard to compete with.

Anytime a company is brave enough to tell players the face is going to be left natural and it will rust and change, we have to give them some credit. This club provides players of all levels an entirely new concept of what a wedge should feel like.

The Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 irons are an excellent option for players seeking a powerful flight and strong levels of forgiveness. The work Tour Edge has done to optimize the feel of these irons has seriously paid off, and combined with the excellent turf interaction from the wide soles, the impact sensation is extremely good. Outside of the bigger manufacturers, I don’t know if I’ve hit a better iron in this category. There is some serious value to be had here.

I had never struck a Tour Edge golf club before the Hot Launch C524 Irons arrived on my doorstep, so I was keen to see if they could perform as well as some of the best irons on the market for a fraction of the price.

Retailing for just $79.99/£65.00 per iron, the price tag certainly caught my eye as many irons in this category sell for far more than double that price. On first inspection out of the box, there were no signs of why that may be from an aesthetic point of view. Each iron was beautifully finished and looked great when I put them down in the playing position. A generous blade length and ample offset let me know that these were irons designed with playability in mind, but overall the dimensions and proportions were excellent and framed the ball nicely.

From a shelf appeal point of view, it is a case of nearly but not quite for me. I am generally someone who appreciates a minimalist approach to looks when it comes to golf equipment and the C524 irons are just a touch fussy for my tastes from the back. I don’t mind a subtle accent color but the bright blue badge just wasn’t for me, although that is just personal preference and some players may love it. I just feel that leaving that black or grey would have given the iron a slightly more premium look and feel.

In terms of the tech, there is quite a lot going on. At first glance, you could be forgiven for thinking that these were a hollow-body construction iron as there is no visual cavity, however, this is somewhat of an optical illusion. The cavity has simply been filled with Tour Edge’s VIBRCOR, which is a high-grade TPU designed to improve sound and feel. 

Additional toe weighting has been added to the set with the intention of stabilizing impact and providing additional ball speed on off-center strikes.

I tested the Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 irons at Saunton Golf Club , using my FullSwing KIT launch monitor and TaylorMade TP5 golf balls, both on the practice ground and out on the course.

Before I get into the launch monitor data, I wanted to give a special mention to the feel attributes of these irons. Impact provided a pleasant lively sensation but there was also a real depth to the strike that isn’t always present in the game-improvement iron category. For me, the Mizuno JPX 923 Hot Metal is still the gold standard in terms of feel in this genre, but quite honestly, when coupled with some excellent turf interaction, the C524 iron is not a million miles behind.

Launch monitor data was pretty strong across the board, with ball speed and distance competitive with just about anything else. With the 7-iron coming in at 29˚ it sits within the higher end of its peers loft-wise but still managed to produce a ball speed of 129.3mph for me with a mid-low launch and spin of 15.5˚ and 5412rpm respectively, which culminated in a healthy carry number of 188 yards. 

I did notice a slight right tendency in flight compared to some other game improvement irons which tend to feature more of a draw bias if anything, and I wonder whether that has anything to do with the additional toe weighting. It wasn't too severe, however, just something to note.

The Hot Launch C524 irons come with a stock steel option of the True Temper Elevate MPH95 shaft in R or S flex, and there are more weight and flex options with the Aldila Ascent PL stock graphite option. There are also three sizes of Lamkin grips to choose from.

Overall, I was very pleased with the performance and feel of the Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 irons, and when you factor in the price tag, I think there is some exceptional value for money to be had. In terms of raw performance data, I would feel comfortable putting them up against anything else in the game improvement category and be very confident they would hold their own.

Arbat is a real street-holiday, where it is always noisy and fun: people meet, walk, watch the performances of talented street artists with clowns, singers and dancers strutting their stuff. Right on the pavement, artists proudly exhibit their works.

There is a very special atmosphere here that has long attracted representatives of the creative intelligentsia. L. Tolstoy and S. Yesenin, A. Pushkin and his young wife N. Goncharov, A. Blok and B. Pasternak are fondly remembered by the hallowed paving stones along Arbat. It is of no surprise that the heroes of the famous novel ‘War and Peace’ were ‘registered’.

Sure would appreciate someone who has taken "Best of Moscow by high speed train" from St. Petersburg could please share their impressions of this shore excursion. From the description this sounds like a very long day.

Wondering how the 4 hour train trip was in terms of accommodations, etc. Also what time did you leave the ship and what time at night did you return? Were both legs of the trip on the high speed rail (I read that slower trains also travel the same tracks)?

My wife and I are considering this excursion. We thought that if we are making all the effort to go to Russia then how could we pass up going to Moscow, walking in Red Square, seeing St. Basil, etc.

If you are considering this on the 2015 June Baltic cruise on Voyager; my suggestion is don't. There is so much to do in St. Petersburg and although a train is one of my favorite ways to travel the time would be far better spent in St. P.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, this would be on the Voyager during the 2015 season but not yet sure exactly which cruise.

We did the Moscow excursion "on a different luxury line", but from your brief description it sounds very much like the same trip, so I will operate on that assumption. It is a VERY long day! We left the ship at 5:30 AM and returned at 12:30 AM. The highspeed train trip is comfortable, and while they call it "Business Class" it does not compare well to the equivalent class on say Rail Europe. When we did it in 2011, we did have highspeed both ways, and the trip back seemed much longer as the adrenaline and excitement had worn off!:D

Moscow itself is not that terribly different from any other big city in the world, but this Cold War kid never thought he would ever stand in Red Square, never mind walk the grounds of The Kremlin, or tour The Kremlin Palace, or see (but not visit) Lenin's Tomb, or visit The Armoury. But he did, and he loved every minute of it! Yes, it is a long day, and you barely scratch a scratch on the surface, but it is worth it. There is a tremendous amount to see in St. Petersburg, but every Baltic cruise goes to St. Petersburg, so you can go back if you choose to. Not every cruiseline offers you the chance to see Moscow.

I have not personally done this tour, but our last time in St Petersburg, the private guide that we hired for a day was leading the regent tour to Moscow on the high speed train the next day. He said it was way better than the previous alternative, which was flying to Moscow and back. He said that you actually got to Moscow faster because you didn't have to deal with airline checkin etc. it did seem like a very long day to me, and there is so much to see and do in st. Petersburg that I didn't consider doing it.

We toured to Moscow from St. Petersburg via the hi-speed SAPSAN train last September, from a Baltic cruise on the Oceania Marina. You need to have a two-night, three day port call in St. Petersburg to take this tour because the tour typically leaves the ship around 5:00 - 5:30 AM and doesn't return until after midnight the next day. We didn't take the ship's tour; we made private arrangements with TravelAllRussia for three days of touring, the first and third days in St. Petersburg and the second day the tour to Moscow by train. Our cost for the private tour for three days was about the same as what the ship charged for the excursion to Moscow alone. There are a number of private tour agencies that operate in St. Petersburg and offer the Moscow train tours; we would strongly recommend them over the ship's tours.

All three days had private guides with car and driver. The second day, the driver picked us up at the ship and took us to the train, but we were alone on the train, and met in Moscow by the guide on the station platform. After our tour and dinner, we were brought back to the train and after the return train trip met by the driver and taken back to the ship. Because you are alone on the train you must have your own Russian visas.

If this is your first visit to St. Petersburg, I would agree there is much more to see there. We found Moscow somewhat a disappointment, particularly Red Square. The Kremlin and the cathedral in Red Square were also worth seeing. But the best thing we saw was the Moscow subway! I worked for the Washington Metro system back in the 1980s as it grew from 40 to 80 miles and although I was in the computer area, I learned a lot about the challenges of running a subway system. We used the Moscow system to get across the city from where we had dinner to the train station, and I was amazed at the cleanliness', speed of operation, the short headways maintained, and the courtesy of everyone involved. A very impressive experience!

We had been to St. Petersburg before, and so had the time to take a day and go to Moscow. Also, I really like trains, and the SAPSAN is a German train set running on Russian rails. Seats are like first class domestic air, spacious but not too plush or comfortable, but with enough room. Not too much recline, and almost 8 hours on the train in two shots is a lot for an old man. They come through and sell drinks, candy, etc. but the sellers don't speak English and no one around us helped, so we had just poor coffee once coming, and brought stuff with us for the trip back. Not too much to see from the train either, particularly on the return when it is night the whole way.

If you decide to go, take a private tour and avoid the overly expensive ship's tour. I'm glad we did it, but wouldn't bother to repeat the tour; we've seen Moscow.

Sure would appreciate someone who has taken "Best of Moscow by high speed train" from St. Petersburg could please share their impressions of this shore excursion. From the description this sounds like a very long day.   Wondering how the 4 hour train trip was in terms of accommodations, etc. Also what time did you leave the ship and what time at night did you return? Were both legs of the trip on the high speed rail (I read that slower trains also travel the same tracks)?   My wife and I are considering this excursion. We thought that if we are making all the effort to go to Russia then how could we pass up going to Moscow, walking in Red Square, seeing St. Basil, etc.

I did this on Seabourn. IMO DONT. Take Aeroflop (er Aeroflot). The train has non folding seats where you are literally knee to knee with your fellow passenger (facing each other). Further they don't believe in air conditioning. It's also the worlds slowed bullet train. I think I would have found more enjoyment wandering around the St. Petersburg and Moscow airports.

This is a little off topic,, however we had planned a river cruise in Russia but decided we would rather stay on land and have booked about two weeks with Travel-All-Russia using the private guide and driver. I'm curious as to how you found them as a tour company.

The guides they provided were fine. We had a different guide each of the days in St. Petersburg, but both were flexible, pleasant, knowledgeable and spoke English very well, as did the guide in Moscow, incidentally. She was a bit aloof, distant, not too friendly, but otherwise fine. In fact, she was the one who suggested taking the Metro, which unexpectedly became one of the highlights of the Moscow excursion. If I have a complaint with AllTravelRussia, it is with their plan and its execution (more later).

I had requested emphasis on World War II (in Russia, the Great Patriotic War) sites and info. In scheduling us, they weren't careful about dates and a couple of the sites we wanted to see were scheduled on the third day, after we'd been to Moscow. But both sites were closed that day of the week, and that info was readily available, right on web sites describing them. Also, the included meals (lunches in St. Pete, dinner in Moscow) were not what we asked for: light meals with some choices, so we could avoid things we didn't like and choose things we did like. My request was ignored; we were given full Russian meals with a fixed menu, no choice. On the first day, a fish dish was the entre, but I am allergic to fish. Fortunately, I had the e-mail I'd sent with me and showed it to the guide, and she was able to change my entre to chicken, which was very good actually. But we didn't want a 3-4 course lunches or dinner (in Moscow). We had the guide drop the lunch the third day, although we never got any credit or refund. But, particularly in contrast to the ship's tours, the prices were so reasonable we didn't worry too much about it.

The people who were on the ship's tour to Moscow saw us boarding the same train for which they were forced to queue up and wait on the way back, and asked us what we had done. I was candid and open so they were not happy when I explained what we had arranged and particularly what it had cost. Also, when we returned to the ship, we found they had laid on a late supper for those who had gone to Moscow, so up we went and had something. Well, it turns out the late supper was supposed to be just for those on the ship's tour, but we and others on 'independent' tours, there were a dozen or more of us, crashed the party, actually got there first, and they didn't realize it until the larger group arrived and there weren't enough tables/places set. By that time, the 'independents' had all gotten served and were eating; what could they do?

A couple from the larger group sat down with us and asked us about our tour, and they were the ones I told about our arrangement and its cost. They turned to others who’d been with them and announced the details, loudly enough so the whole room heard, which started a lot of bitching and complaining. I gathered they weren't very happy with the ship's tour to begin with, and this was the straw that broke the camel's back. We finished up and beat it out of there, but overheard later that one of the excursion staff came to check on something and ran into a real mess. I caught a cold on the trip, which forced me to bed the second day following in Tallinn, so by the time we reappeared we heard about the contretemps' but apparently no one recalled who started it, thankfully.

Because of what happened to us, I would probably not use AllTravelRussia if I were to go again, or if I did, I would be sure to get confirmation of every detail of the tour. They do have good reviews generally, and we were certainly helped by their visa department and liked the guides and drivers. Their weakness, I say now with full 20:20 hindsight, is that once the sales person who plans the tour, sells it to you and collects your money, he (or she) transfers the plan to their Russia office for implementation; there is no follow-up to make sure it gets done right. And that is where our problems arose; we paid for a custom tour but got a standard package with a few destinations switched, and no one checked them out, even to see when they were open the day we were scheduled to go. If you check every detail that’s important to you, it should be OK, but that’s a hell of a way to have to do business, in my opinion.

Thank you for the 20/20 hindsight observation on your Russian tour operator, and better priced than the ship's excursion cost.

We had the same experience as you so far as price. We originally booked a Viking Cruise but, hearing some things about the river cruises that made us unhappy, looked into other options. T-A-R cost the same or less than a cruise and had us in hotels for 11 days. We opted for the private tour. They have three tour levels, based on hotels. We originally opted for the four star as it did not cost much more than the three star hotels. Finally we decided to throw it all in and upgraded to five star. In Moscow we will be at the newly opened Kempinsky which is two blocks from Red Square. In St. Petersburg it is the Grand Hotel Europe, one of the most vaunted luxury hotels in Russia. Location is important for us as the tours use up only part of the day so being in the center of everything for our independent touring is important. As with many other cities, the less you pay, the farther out of the center of town you are.

We have been working with our salesman in D.C. and he seems to get back to us with the changes we want. He recently returned from Russia so is up on everything. When I asked they said they paid the full TA commission if I wanted so I got my usual TA on board so he is watching our back and giving us that extra level of comfort. He also set up our air, which I know pays him little or nothing, and got us business class for much less than T-A-R wanted for economy, though it took working for a while with a consolidator. He's happy to get his 10 percent on this trip without having booked it. He also took care of the trip insurance. We've been doing a lot of research on the CC sister site Trip Advisor and will write a report there. We will, I guess, become a source of info for CC members after having spent 5 days in Moscow and 6 in SP.

Moscow concert attack: More than 60 reported dead; ISIS claims responsibility

What we know about the Moscow concert attack

• Men in camouflage broke into a Moscow concert hall and opened fire, shooting an unknown number of people, Russia’s prosecutor general said.
• The terror group ISIS has claimed responsibility but did not provide proof of the claim, which was made on ISIS-affiliated news agency Amaq on Telegram.
• Russia's Investigative Committee said that more than 60 people are dead after the attack at Crocus City Hall. Officials have said more than 100 others were injured.
• A fire also started inside Crocus City Hall, a large concert venue northwest of central Moscow. Firefighters have evacuated about 100 people from the basement of the building and efforts are underway to rescue people from the roof, Russian emergency officials said.
• Russia officials said they were investigating the attack as a terrorist act.
• A popular rock band was scheduled to play what appeared to be a sold-out show at the venue, which has a maximum capacity of more than 9,000 people.

Three children among those killed, state media reports

Three children were among the more than 60 people killed in yesterday's attack at Crocus City Hall, Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported, citing the Russian Ministry of Health.

Officials have warned that the death toll connected to the deadly incident may increase as the investigation continues.

Xi sends condolences to Putin

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent condolences to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday after a deadly shooting at a concert hall near Moscow, saying China opposes all forms of terrorism and strongly condemns terrorist attacks.

China firmly supports the Russian government’s efforts to maintain national security and stability, Xi said, according to CCTV state television. 

Moscow bloodshed comes two decades after some of worst attacks in Russia

The shooting attacks in Moscow are the latest in a series of deadly terror attacks in the country since the 2000s.

In 2004, militants from Chechnya and elsewhere took hostages at a school in Beslan in southern Russia.

The militants demanded a withdrawal from Chechnya. Hostages were kept in a gymnasium, and 334 died — half of them children — when gunfire and explosions erupted when it was stormed. Hostages’ families were critical of the rescue operation. Russian prosecutors later cleared authorities .

Two years prior, in 2002, Chechen separatists attacked the Dubrovka Theater in Moscow and took more than 700 people hostage. Russian forces used gas, and 129 hostages died. The attackers were killed.

More recently, in 2017 a suicide bomber from Kyrgyzstan killed 15 people as well as himself in an attack on a St. Petersburg subway. In 2013, two bombers killed a combined 34 people in attacks on a railway station and a trolleybus in Volgograd.

The group Islamic State, also known as ISIS, claimed responsibility for the attacks Friday at the Crocus City Hall venue.

Putin wishes victims well, deputy prime minister says

President Vladimir Putin is thinking of those injured in today’s attack and thanked doctors, a Russian government official said according to state media.

State media TASS reported that “Putin wished all those injured in the emergency at Crocus City Hall to recover and conveyed his gratitude to the doctors, Golikova said,” referring to Tatiana Golikova deputy prime minister for social policy, labor, health and pension provision.

More than 60 dead, and death toll could grow, Russian agency says

Russia’s Investigative Committee said Saturday that more than 60 people have died in the attack, and warned the number may increase.

“The bodies of the dead are being examined. It has been previously established that more than 60 people died as a result of the terrorist attack. Unfortunately, the number of victims may increase,” according to the Investigative Committee, which is a federal state agency.

Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs and the security agency FSB are continuing to investigate, the committee said in a statement, and weapons and ammunition have been found.

U.S. warned Russia about planned terrorist attack in Moscow, NSC says

The United States shared information about a potential terrorist attack in Moscow with Russia’s government earlier this month, a spokesperson for the National Security Council said.

The U.S. Embassy in Russia on March 7 warned U.S. citizens to avoid crowds and said it was monitoring reports that extremists might attack large gatherings in Moscow.

“Earlier this month, the U.S. Government had information about a planned terrorist attack in Moscow — potentially targeting large gatherings, to include concerts — which prompted the State Department to issue a public advisory to Americans in Russia,” NSC spokesperson Adrienne Watson said.

“The U.S. Government also shared this information with Russian authorities in accordance with its longstanding ‘duty to warn’ policy,” Watson said.

Putin recently dismissed ‘provocative’ warning about potential attacks

In remarks that aired three days ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the West of “provocative statements” about potential terror attacks in Russia, and dismissed them.

“I’ll remind you of recent, let’s say directly, provocative statements of certain official Western structures about potential terror attacks in Russia,” Putin said.

“All of this looks like obvious blackmail and an attempt to intimidate, destabilize our country,” he said before the state security agency FSB.

Putin in those remarks did not specify a country or warning. The U.S. embassy in Russia on March 7 warned U.S. citizens to avoid crowds .

“The Embassy is monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow, to include concerts, and U.S. citizens should be advised to avoid large gatherings over the next 48 hours,” the U.S. embassy warned.

Guards at concert hall didn't have guns, state news says

Guards at the concert hall didn’t have guns, and some could have been killed at the start of the attack, Russian media reported.

Some Russian news outlets suggested the assailants fled before special forces and riot police arrived.

Reports said police patrols were looking for several vehicles the attackers could have used to escape.

U.S. had been gathering intelligence that ISIS could attack Russia

The U.S. had been gathering intelligence for months that ISIS could mount a mass casualty attack in Russia, two U.S. officials confirmed to NBC News.

That information led to a March 7 warning issued by the U.S. embassy in Russia about possible extremist attacks, including at concerts, urging people to stay away from large gatherings, one of the officials said.

That official said the claim of responsibility today by ISIS appears to be genuine, though no final assessment had been made about who was responsible.

Some Moscow concertgoers filmed events as they unfolded Friday night, when gunmen opened fire inside a theater and people ran to take cover in fear for their lives.

Witness says gunfire was first thought to be construction noise

A witness to today’s armed attack on Moscow’s Crocus City Hall told a state news agency that they first mistook the gunfire for sounds of an installation being dismantled.

“First, we started hearing typical loud pops, but it was impossible to understand that they were gunshots. We thought that something was falling, as exhibitions were being dismantled at that moment, and someone seemed to be dropping something large,” Mikhail Semyonov told TASS .

“Then, the bangs were getting more and more frequent. Suddenly, there was a scream, and the bangs started to be heard as bursts. Then it became clear that it was shooting,” he said.

ISIS claims responsibility for attack but does not provide proof

The terror group Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack in Moscow.

The group, also known as ISIS, did not provide any proof of its claim, which came from ISIS-affiliated news agency Amaq on Telegram.

The group’s members have carried out a number of terror attacks, including the 2015 attacks in Paris that killed 130 people.

Children among the victims, Russia's children commissioner says

Russia’s commissioner for children’s rights, Maria Lvova-Belova, said children were among the victims of tonight's attack.

"Information about their condition is regularly updated," Lvova-Belova said on Telegram. "Any additional assistance will be provided immediately."

She later told Russia 24 TV channel that at least two children had been injured, including one boy with a gunshot wound.

Earlier, Russian officials released a preliminary casualty toll of at least 40 people dead and more than 100 injured.

France, U.K., Germany condemn attack

Officials from France, the U.K. and Germany were among those who expressed their condolences to the victims of the attack at the Crocus concert hall.

"The images of the terrible attack on innocent people in Crocus City Hall near #Moscow are horrific," Germany's Foreign Office said on X . "The background must be investigated quickly. Our deepest condolences with the families of the victims."

"We condemn the terrorist attack in the Crocus City Hall near Moscow," the U.K.'s embassy in Russia said . "This is a terrible tragedy."

Meanwhile, France's foreign ministry called for "full light" to be shed on "these heinous acts."

Public events across Russia called off after attack

Several regional leaders across Russia, including in the annexed Kherson region of Ukraine, have canceled public events this weekend over security considerations after the deadly concert attack in Moscow.

Shortly after the attack, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin canceled all sports, cultural and other public events in Moscow this weekend. State news agency TASS also quoted Russia's cultural ministry as saying that mass and entertainment events in federal cultural institutions have been canceled in the coming days.

Zelenskyy adviser speaks out about attack

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s adviser denied that Ukraine was involved in the deadly Crocus concert hall attack.

“Ukraine certainly has nothing to do with the shooting/explosions in the Crocus City Hall (Moscow Region, Russia),” Mykhailo Podolyak wrote on X. “It makes no sense whatsoever.”

No evidence has emerged to suggest Ukraine may have been involved, but Ukrainian officials may be trying to pre-empt accusations, as some Kremlin hawks have already started pointing at Kyiv. 

Asked whether the shooting was at all tied to the war in Ukraine, U.S. National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said: “There is no indication at this time that Ukraine, or Ukrainians, were involved in the shooting, but again, this just broke. We’re taking a look at it, but I would disabuse you at this early hour have any connection to Ukraine.”

Videos posted to social media appear to show chaos inside Moscow's Crocus City Hall during and after a terrorist attack.

Some videos include what sound like gunshots and show men with rifles, as concertgoers frantically try to exit the venue.

State Department issues warning to Americans in Moscow

The State Department said that the U.S. Embassy in Moscow is aware of the terrorist attack on Crocus City Hall and that U.S. citizens should avoid the area and follow the instructions of local authorities.

"The U.S. government’s ability to provide routine or emergency services to U.S. citizens in Russia is severely limited, particularly in areas far from the U.S. embassy in Moscow, due to Russian government limitations on travel for U.S. embassy personnel and staffing, and the ongoing suspension of operations, including consular services, at U.S. consulates in Russia," the State Department said in a message posted to its website .

'What a nightmare in Crocus,' Widow of opposition leader Alexei Navalny condolences about concert attack

Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny who died in prison last month, expressed her condolences about the attack Friday.

"What a nightmare in Crocus," Navalnaya wrote on X. "Condolences to the families of the victims and quick recovery to the injured. Everyone involved in this crime must be found and held accountable."

320 firefighters, 3 helicopters working to put out fire

Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations said the number of rescue crews responding to the attack is growing and now includes more than 320 firefighters, 130 emergency vehicles and three helicopters dumping water on the burning concert venue.

Moscow regional governor says 40 dead, more than 100 injured

Moscow Regional Governor Andrei Vorobyov said on Telegram that at least 40 people are dead and more than 100 injured in the terrorist attack, confirming figures previously reported by Russian state news.

Putin informed about concert venue attack 'in the first minutes,' Kremlin spokesperson says

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said President Vladimir Putin was informed about the shooting at the Crocus concert hall "in the first minutes" of the attack, Russian state news agency RIA reported.

The president is receiving information about what is happening and the measures being taken through all relevant services and is giving necessary instructions, Peskov said according to RIA.

Russian journalist was inside concert venue when gunmen entered

Russian news agency RIA Novosti said on Telegram that one of its reporters was inside the venue when gunmen entered and began shooting concertgoers.

The journalist said that at least three unmasked gunmen in camouflage entered the hall a few minutes before 8 p.m. Moscow time. They shot people point-blank and threw incendiary bombs, according to the journalist.

Russia's foreign ministry spokesperson calls incident 'bloody terrorist attack'

Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for Russia's foreign ministry, called the Friday night incident at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow a "bloody terrorist attack" as she called for "strong condemnation" from the international community.

"Now, as the Russian authorities have stated, all efforts are being devoted to saving people," Zakharova said. "The entire world community is obliged to condemn this monstrous crime!"

U.S. national security spokesperson says embassy has told Americans to avoid large gatherings in Moscow

National Security Council Spokesman John Kirby addressed the attack in Moscow at a White House press briefing Friday afternoon, calling it a “terrible, terrible shooting attack.”

“The images are just horrible and just hard to watch and our thoughts obviously are going to be with the the victims,” Kirby said.

Kirby added that the U.S. embassy has notified all Americans in Moscow to avoid large gatherings, concerts, shopping malls, etc., and “stay put where they are” for their safety.

Russian media says 40 dead, more than 100 injured at concert attack

TASS, Russia's state-owned news agency, and RIA Novosti are reporting that Russia's FSB security agency has put the preliminary casualty count at 40 dead and more than 100 injured by a terrorist attack on a Moscow-area concert venue.

NBC News has not confirmed those casualty numbers.

Roof of concert venue at risk of collapse, Russian media says

Russian news agency RIA Novosti said on Telegram that the roof of the building near the concert venue's stage has begun to collapse.

Video posted to Telegram by RIA Novosti showed fire continue to blaze inside the venue.

Moscow area governor says more than 70 ambluances at scene of attack

Andrei Vorobyov, Moscow's regional governor, said on Telegram that more than 70 ambulances have been dispatched to the scene of concert venue attack.

“Everything is being done at the scene to save people," he wrote in the Telegram message. "The Special Rapid Response Unit (SOBR) has been deployed. There are over 70 ambulance carriages near Crocus, doctors provide the necessary assistance to all victims."

Russia’s prosecutor general office says number of victims still being determined

Russia's prosecutor general said on Telegram that officials are working to determine how many people have been killed or hurt in the concert attack.

“On behalf of Igor Krasnov, the prosecutor of the Moscow region has gone to the scene of the incident at Crocus City Hall to coordinate the actions of law enforcement agencies," the prosecutor general's Telegram account posted. "Tonight, before the start of the event in the concert hall in Krasnogorsk, unknown men in camouflage clothes broke into the building and started shooting."

"The number of victims is being determined, a fire started in the entertainment center building, and citizens are being evacuated."

Moscow's mayor cancels weekend events

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Telegram that he was canceling all public events in Moscow this weekend.

"I have taken the decision to cancel all sports, cultural and other public events in Moscow this weekend," he said. "I ask of you to treat this measure with understanding."

Popular rock band was to play sold-out venue that can hold 9,500

A popular rock band was scheduled to play what appeared to be a sold-out show at the Moscow concert hall where there were reports of gunmen in combat fatigues opening fire.

Picnic, formed in 1978, was to play at Crocus City Hall, west of central Moscow.

The multilevel facility in Krasnogorsk has a maximum capacity of 9,527 people. Booking sites show the event was sold out.

Russia's aviation agency says additional security added to Moscow airports

The Russian aviation agency Rosaviatsiya said that additional security measures are being introduced in Moscow airports

"Due to increased security measures, we ask passengers to arrive at Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo and Zhukovsky airports in advance," the agency said on the Telegram messaging app.

Moscow's emergency ministry says it is working to extinguish fire

Moscow’s emegency ministry said it was working to extinguish a fire that began at the music venue.

The ministry said about 100 people were evacuated from the building, and it was working to rescue people from the roof.

Russian media says state security taking action

Russia's news outlet RIA Novosti said that the country's security agency, the FSB, is taking measures to respond to the shooting at a concert hall near Moscow.

Videos posted by Russian media show men with rifles moving through area

Extended rounds of gunfire could be heard on multiple videos posted by Russian media and Telegram channels. One showed two men with rifles moving through a concert hall. Another one showed a man inside the auditorium, saying the assailants set it on fire, with incessant gunshots ringing out in the background.

Andrei Vorobyov, the governor of the Moscow region, said he was heading to the area and set up a task force to deal with the damage. He didn’t immediately offer any further details.

Russian media reports said that riot police units were being sent to the area as people were being evacuated.

Russian news outlets report gunman opened fire at Moscow concert hall

Several gunmen in combat fatigues burst into a big concert hall in Moscow on Friday and fired automatic weapons at the crowd, injuring an unspecified number of people, Russian media said.

Russian news reports said that the assailants also used explosives, causing a massive blaze at the Crocus City Hall on the western edge of Moscow. Video posted on social media showed huge plumes of black smoke rising over the building.

Russia’s state RIA Novosti news agency reported that at least three people in combat fatigues fired weapons. The state Tass news agency also reported the shooting.

U.S. warned of imminent Moscow attack by ‘extremists,’ urges citizens to avoid crowds

U.S. citizens in  Moscow  had been warned to avoid large gatherings earlier this month because of heightened fears of a terrorist attack.

The U.S. Embassy in the Russian capital said it was “monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow, to include concerts, and U.S. citizens should be advised to avoid large gatherings over the next 48 hours.”

U.S. citizens should avoid crowds, monitor local media for updates and “be aware of your surroundings,” it said in a brief  online update .
