Virasat-e-Khalsa | Rangla Punjab
Welcome To Punjab Tourism | North Western edge of India
Deriving its name from five full-bodied rivers–Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, Jhelum, and Chenab–which flow through its vast plains, Punjab is representative of abundant things. Located on the north-western edge of India, it is one of the smaller albeit prosperous states of the nation, and home to a lively, hospitable and dynamic people. Widely acknowledged as the cradle of civilization, it is a land of ethnic and religious diversity, having borne and shaped a number of religious movements that include Sikhism, Buddhism and Sufism. The Punjabi language, too, finds its origin in the Indo-European linguistic family that includes Persian and Latin. Naturally replete with fertile soils and rich water sources, it is primarily an agricultural state, and has continually and infinitely contributed towards the food security of the Indian Republic.
Punjab's many festivals–Teej, Lohri, Basant, and Baisakhi, to name some–are celebrations that mirror the farming ethos. Indeed, Bhangra, the traditional dance of Punjab revolves around, and replicates a farmer's daily life. Historically, Punjab has played host to a number of ethnicities, including the Aryans, Persians, Greeks, Afghans and Mongols, thus bestowed with a rich tangible heritage. Reflecting this history are the countless sites that dot the state: impressive forts & palaces, ancient monuments, architectural marvels and many a battlefield.

Punjab Tourism Summit begins in Mohali Bhagwant Mann pitches state as ideal tourism destination
Chandigarh, Sep 11 (PTI) The three-day Punjab Tourism Summit began in Mohali on Monday, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann pitching the state as an ideal tourism destination. The state's first tourism summit is aimed at showcasing the state's tourism potential. Addressing the gathering, Mann said Punjab has a lot to offer in terms of religious tourism, eco-tourism and wellness tourism, and more people should come and visit the state and enjoy the hospitality and warmth, for which Punjabis are famous the world over. At the event -- which saw the participation of stand-up comedian and TV show host Kapil Sharma, Sunil Pal and some of the industry leaders associated with the travel and tourism sector -- Mann while pitching Punjab as an ideal tourist destination, said the state is famous for its "Makki Ki Roti aur Sarsoon Ka Saag", and tourists can relish it during October to February. On the occasion, Mann announced a new project "Celebration Point" to be set up in Amritsar. "In Amritsar, we are coming out with a new project -- Celebration Point. Under this, over 50 to 100 acres of land on the city outskirts, a marriage palace, banquet hall, residential accommodation, hotel and other things will be set up. In a single place, people will get everything. People can come there to celebrate any happy occasion," he said. He said people can also come to hold weddings. Some of his cabinet colleagues, including Tourism Minister Anmol Gagan Maan, were also present on the occasion. We are also focusing on eco-tourism, wellness centre, adventure tourism, developing heritage circuit and farm tourism, he said. The state plans to develop Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar and some other places for eco-tourism as these places have dams and water bodies. Wooing the filmmakers, Mann also said: "We are going to set up a Film City in Punjab". Punjabis are hardworking and have made their presence felt in various fields, he said. Mann also made a reference to the "Bharat" issue, though in a lighter vein. "Bharat hai waangh mundri, wich nagg Punjab da (If India is a precious ring then Punjab is its shining jewel). "Yeh India jo desh hamara, Chalo India kehta mein...Eitraz hota hai kayiyan nu (India, our country...I said India, some people have objections to this). Bharat, Hindustan..," he then quipped. The Narendra Modi government for a G20 dinner referred to the President as the President of "Bharat" and not India. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asked on Tuesday whether it (BJP) would change the name of Bharat if the opposition alliance INDIA rechristens itself as "Bharat". Meanwhile, Mann said that during the present regime, 35,848 government jobs have been given during the past one-and-a-half years. Employment opportunities are being created for youth, he said. He also said Punjab has garnered an investment of Rs 50,840 crore under the present dispensation. Taking a dig at previous regimes, Mann said, earlier, single window clearances used to be only on paper. He said after AAP came to power in the state, an industrialist told him that he needed support from the government and when mann pressed to specify what kind of support was needed he said the government should not harass him. "I kept thinking that here is a person who is investing money and creating jobs and the support, he is asking that he should not be harassed. Such was the kind of atmosphere, which was prevalent during previous regimes," said Mann. He said the present regime is committed to providing all kinds of facilities and a congenial atmosphere for industry to flourish. Meanwhile, at the event, state government officials stated that a calendar of various festivals has been drawn to boost tourism. During 2023-24, among other places, Amritsar will host a multi-theme "Dil Punjabi" festival in January next year, while in April Bathinda will hold Baisakhi Mela. Faridkot will host the "Baba Sheikh Farid Aagman" festival in September, and Fatehgarh to hold the Sahib Valour festival in December, while the Basant festival will be held in Ferozepur in January. In February, the nature festival will be held in Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar in November will host the equestrian event. To showcase the grandeur of the erstwhile Kapurthala Princely State Kapurthala Heritage Festival will be held in January. Mann said every village has an imprint of the martyrs who had laid down their lives for the sake of the country both in pre and post-independence times, which needs to be showcased duly. The state government has formulated several policies for boosting tourism, and if needed, they will be amended as per the need of captains of industry, he noted. The chief minister said that his government will complete the Saragarhi memorial to remember the supreme sacrifice made by the 21 valiant soldiers, who laid their lives while protecting the sovereignty of the country, at the famous battle of Saragarhi. The previous state government did not release the funds for this memorial, but we have released the pending funds now so that the memorial is completed at the earliest, he said. Stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma said that the summit is a laudable step by the state government to promote tourism in the state.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Jailed separatist Amritpal Singh likely to contest on Punjab’s Khadoor Sahib seat
Amritpal singh’s counsel, rajdev singh khalsa, claimed that during a meeting at dibrugarh central jail, he urged singh to run for office in the interest of the ‘khalsa panth’, to which singh has purportedly agreed.
Separatist Amritpal Singh, currently being held in an Assam jail under the National Security Act (NSA), is allegedly set to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Punjab’s Khadoor Sahib constituency as an independent candidate, according to his legal representative.
However, his father, Tarsem Singh, declined to comment until meeting his son on Thursday, stating that Amritpal had previously shown no interest in politics, PTI reported.
Amritpal Singh’s counsel, Rajdev Singh Khalsa, claimed that during a meeting at Dibrugarh Central Jail, he urged Singh to run for office in the interest of the ‘Khalsa Panth’, to which Singh purportedly agreed. Khalsa claimed that Singh will contest as an independent candidate.

Singh, the leader of the ‘Waris Punjab De’ group, has been in custody since April last year, with the NSA invoked against him. He and nine associates are presently detained in Dibrugarh Jail.
Amritpal Singh, who aspired to be like deceased Kalistani terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, was caught by the police in Moga’s Rode village on April 23 last year after they searched for him for more than a month.
His escape from police custody in Jalandhar district in March of the same year involved switching vehicles and altering his appearance.

The Punjab Police launched a crackdown following the Ajnala incident on February 23, 2023. During that event, Amritpal Singh and his friends, some of whom had swords and guns, broke through barriers and went into a police station outside of Amritsar city. They clashed with law enforcement officers in an effort to secure the release of Lovepreet Singh Toofan, one of their associates.
Amritpal Singh and his companions faced multiple criminal charges, including inciting disharmony among communities, attempted murder, assaults on police personnel, and obstructing the lawful duties of public servants.

Kp okays wheat procurement at rates fixed by centre, punjab.
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet has approved the procurement of wheat for the current year at the rates fixed by the federal, Punjab, and Balochistan governments.
Under the plans okayed by the cabinet in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur here on Tuesday, 600,000 metric tons of wheat will be procured at the rate of Rs3,900 for 40kg.
The cabinet directed authorities to ensure the quality and quantity of wheat and the transparency of its procurement, according to an official statement issued on Wednesday.
It added that the cabinet, in order to protect the interests of the local growers, approved a “comprehensive work plan and standard operating procedure starting from the district to the divisional and provincial levels.”
Cabinet also grants conditional nod to establishment of industrial regulatory body
The cabinet granted “conditional” approval to the proposed establishment of the National Industrial Development and Regulatory Authority (NIDRA) as required under the Constitution to enable the federal government to unify all entities like economic zones, special economic zones (SEZs), tax free zones, integrated tourism zones (ITZs), special technology zones (STZs) and expert processing zones (EPZs).
The unification was proposed by a working group set up by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) for SEZs and headed by the chairman of the Privatisation Commission.
After approval, the NIDRA will, under the executive and legislative authority, assume all roles to the extent of zones required to establish, regulate, develop, operate, and manage them under the NIDRA law, according to the official statement.
It added that all the roles of the federal entities would be shifted to the NIDRA.
“Though almost all the above entities were originally established under federal legislation, the present approval was given with the condition that the incentives extended under the SEZ, EPZ and STZA should be brought under the umbrella of a single organisation to facilitate investors.”
The statement added that operations, management, administrative control of the zones, and industrial estate should remain with the provinces for better facilitation of investors.
The cabinet also approved the rehabilitation and restoration of the 17 megawatt Ranolia hydropower project in Lower Kohistan at a cost of Rs8.1 billion.
It was already okayed by the provincial development working party with the condition that it would be processed for the approval of the provincial cabinet for inclusion as a non-ADP scheme.
The cabinet approved it as a non-ADP scheme with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank. It also approved the acquisition of 327 kanals of land for 88MW Gabral Kalam hydropower projects financed by the World Bank in Swat district.
The provision of the revision already exists in the project’s approved PC-I, according to the statement.
It added that the project, after commissioning, was expected to generate over Rs7.4 billion annually.
The cabinet also approved the additional compensation in respect of land and built-up property based on an independent valuation study for executing the 300MW Balakot hydropower project on the Kunhar River in Mansehra district.
It also granted approval for the shift from manual registration books to automated motor vehicle registration smart cards. The excise and taxation department has already signed a memorandum of understanding with the federal government’s National Security Printing Company for the provision of registration certificates and the supply of smart cards.
The cabinet okayed the utilisation the defunct Federal Administered Tribal Areas Development Authority’s funds of Rs500 million and Rs43 million accumulated markup over it under the accelerated implementation program in the merged tribal districts.
Small enterprises will be micro-financed on an interest-free basis (Akhuwat Islamic Microfinance) from this revolving fund in tribal districts, read the statement.
The cabinet approved the acquisition of over 34 kanals of land for the construction of the Judicial Complex in Panah Kotin area of Upper Dir district and the enactment of the KP Registration of Godown Rules, 2022, as required by the KP Godown Registration Act, 2021.
The law provides for the registration and regulation of godowns, ensuring a comprehensive system regarding the stable supply and availability of goods and matters connected therewith.
The cabinet also approved free education for talented grade 7-12 students of government schools in “quality” educational institutions in the province.
As proposed by the chief minister, the cabinet decided to double both the amount of monthly scholarships and the number of such talented yet poor beneficiary students of the scheme from the next academic year, according to the official statement.

‘Will make Bassian Kothi a tourist hub’

Punjab tourism minister Anmol Gagan Mann said on Tuesday that the government would develop Maharaja Duleep Singh Memorial, popularly known as Bassian Kothi, as an international tourist hub. She was presiding over a World Heritage day event, organised by Maharaja Duleep Singh Memorial Trust, at Bassian Kothi.
The Kothi, a Sikh heritage monument, is over 200 years old. Maharaja Duleep Singh, the last Sikh emperor, was kept in detention here for one night by the British army before his exile.
Addressing the people, Rajya Sabha member of parliament Sanjiv Arora said that despite being a Ludhianavi, he was not aware of the significance of the monument and announced ₹ 20 lakh for the development and beautification of Bassian Kothi.
Mann said that all development works at the monument will be completed in a timely manner and thanked Arora for allocating ₹ 20 lakh for the development of Bassian Kothi. She added that the beautification of the monument would attract tourists within the country and abroad.
Sufi singer Mohammad Irshad performed at the event. The audience enjoyed folk music performances by Navjot Singh Mander, folk instrument playing and Malwai giddha by eminent poet and folk artist Amritpal Singh Pali Khadim, Gatka performance –a form of martial arts–, bhangra and traditional Sialkoti presentation. The winners of the turban tying competition were given cash prizes.
Raikot member of legislative assembly Hakam Singh Thekedar, who presided over the inaugural of Punjabi art fair, handed a cheque of ₹ 5 lakh for the construction of the entry gate of this memorial.
Chairman of Maharaja Duleep Singh Memorial Charitable Trust Gurbhajan Singh Gill said that Maharaja Duleep Singh, youngest son of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, was detained at Kothi Bassian after being caught from Lahore on December 21, 1849. Punjab arts council Chairman Surjit Patar talked about Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s reign.
