The fare for a single journey between the Airport and Majestic is approximately INR 270.

I recently utilized Go Pink cabs and found them reliable, secure, and dedicated to providing complete protection to female passengers. Gallery Walk between the Trinity Circle and Church Street

Mahatma Gandhi (MG) Road and Brigade Road Night Walk

Engaging in a stroll along MG Road and Brigade Road used to be my cherished post-work activity on Friday nights. The lively streets pulse with energy as the city awakens, with crowds revelling in the weekend and the vibrant nightlife.

Note: Exercise caution, especially if walking alone, particularly during nighttime.

Walk between Malleshwaram and MG Road

Among the various walks, this stroll is slightly longer but promises a rewarding experience with abundant sightseeing opportunities. The journey from Malleshwaram to MG Road encompasses numerous landmarks and heritage buildings, providing a rich cultural exploration.

Commencing at Malleshwaram and concluding at MG Road, this 13-kilometer walk is graded as “moderate,” making it suitable for those seeking a more extended yet manageable journey. As you embark on this immersive experience, you’ll encounter the historic gems and architectural wonders that define Bangalore’s heritage.

Bangalore – The Megacity

Mere mentions of Bangalore or Bengaluru as it is now called, flashes images of soaring skyscrapers, bustling traffic and multiple flourishing IT parks in mind. For a casual traveller, Bangalore doesn’t seem like a place to spend a vacation. This city is more of a stopover for the visitors planning to explore the valleys of Coorg , the tiger sanctuaries of Nagarhole and Kutta and the heritage town of Mysore.

But, once you know about Banglore and its amazing surprises, you’ll regret why you didn’t visit this city earlier. Here, one can find everything that a modern millennial traveller would love to experience. Banglore city has some of the biggest and the most premium shopping malls. The pub culture is so hot and happening that a majority of areas have their own bar hopping trails. The street shopping hubs like Commercial Street are perfect for shopping in Bangalore. Ladies from all around the city come here and go on endless bargaining spree.

But if shopping doesn’t suit your interest, even then Bangalore won’t leave you disappointed. The tranquil Nandi Hills is a gorgeous spot worthy of spending a morning. Its rich history has bestowed the city with many temples with amazing architecture. Tipu Sultan ruled over Bangalore state during the pre colonial era and his summer palace is a treat to visit. The city even has its own National Park and Bird Sanctuary. The name garden city of India comes from the fact that iconic spots like Lalbagh, Bugle Rock, Cubbon Park and Sri Chamrajendra Park are blessed with rich collections of flowering plants. And if that doesn’t convince you to plan a visit then this city also boasts of some of the biggest waterslides and roller coasters in the country.

The royal Lalbagh is a delightful place in Bangalore, Karnataka where lovely colours simply mesmerize you. This park was a private property commissioned by Hyder Ali, the ruler of Bangalore State. Today, Lalbagh stands as one of the most popular destinations in the city worthy of spending an evening. Sprawling at 240 acres of land, the park houses about 1,840 varieties of flowers, plants and medicinal herbs which are exclusive to Bangalore location. In the vast expanse of park, you’ll also find a 3,000 year old rock that is popularly known as ‘The Lal Bagh Rock’. 

Bannerghatta National Park

Bengaluru City has its own national park and a protected area for the wild animals and various species of birds. Bannerghatta National Park is spread in an area of 104.27 sq. km and has an aquarium, a zoo, crocodile farm, snake stop, prehistoric creatures stop, eateries and a museum. The protected area houses tigers, lions, deer, bear, wild dogs, peacocks and crocodiles. Bengaluru tourism provides day trips to the park which also includes safari and meals.

Bangalore Boasts of one of the biggest amusement parks in India. Wonder La should be a mandatory part of every Bangalore city tour. This destination has 60 exhilarating rides including some adventurous water slides, wave pools and tunnel rides. The park has one of the biggest rollercoaster in India. Other exciting rides include Twister, Recoil, Dropzone, Insanity, Flash Tower, Hurricane, Equinox, Maverick etc. Wonder La also has a resort where you can stay for the weekend and complete every attraction in detail. 

Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace

Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace was built in the year 1791. Today, it is a compulsory visit even if it’s a one day Bangalore trip. This two storey building is made of teak wood with wooden pillars that supports the foundation. The use of wood makes the interiors cool and comforting. The intricate designs on the ceilings and walls of the palace are really beautiful to observe. The palace also has two balconies where Tipu Sultan used to conduct the state affair meetings. 

Nandi Hills

Nandi Hills is a wonderful juxtaposition to the high rise apartments and ever moving traffic of Bangalore. The residents of the city head to this stunning locale early morning in order enjoy the gorgeous sunrise behind the cloudy skies. At a height of 1,478 metres, Nandi Hills offers pure natural bliss and is worthy of spending a day. 

Cubbon Park

If Bengaluru India is known as Garden City then Cubbon Park is one of the important reasons why. The park was named after Lord Cubbon who personally saw its beautification project. Cubbon Park is the location of many cultural activities, street plays, yoga and mediation sessions and laughter therapy sessions. Cubbon Park is also a popular jogging spot as people find a nice change from smoke, dust and noise.

Ramanagara is one of the favourite outing spots where you should head during your Bangalore visit. Ramanagara is also the famed shooting spot of the movie Sholay. Adventurous activities like rock climbing, bouldering and hiking are very popular here. Yatirajagiri, Shivaramagiri, Somagiri, Revannasiddeshwara Betta, Krishnagiri, Sidilakallu Betta, and Jalasiddeshawara Betta are the seven noteworthy slopes in Ramanagara where you can test your adrenaline boost. 

Pub Hopping in Bangalore

Pub crawl and bar hopping sessions are one of the best things about Bangalore. Many parts of the city have an array of different bars and pubs that serve amazing drinks. Bangalore is also one of the pioneer cities to introduce microbreweries in India. MG Road , UB City, Koramanagala, Malleshwaram, and Indira Nagar are a few areas where you’ll have an amazing time getting introduced to the pub culture of India. In Bangalore South, BTM Layout and Jayanagar have seen emergence of many new and upcoming pubs.

Common Languages Spoken in Bangalore

Bangalore is a multicultural city where residents from all parts of the world reside peacefully. Kannada is the major Bangalore language as it is spoken in Karnataka. How to Reach Bangalore

Travelling out of Bangalore by road and rail is also very simple and convenient as you’ll find regular trains, buses, taxis and even helicopters for transport.

KempaGowda International Airport is located in Devanahalli, 40 km from the business district of Bangalore Area. KempaGowda is one of the busiest airports in the country with several flights arriving and departing every minute. There are flights from international locations like Muscat, Colombo, Dubai, London, Paris and Munich. With 10 domestic airlines and 21 international airlines operating here, it becomes really convenient to arrive and depart from here. 

You can find taxis, buses and self drive cars from airport to travel inside the city.

Bangalore has two major stations, Bangalore City which is right in the heart of the city. Yeshwanthpur is another busy station from where regular trains leave for other parts of India. Apart from this, there are several small stations like Bangalore east and Bangalore Cant. where trains take a halt. These stations are close to certain neighbourhoods so it becomes easy to avoid the main stations that may be far away. Regular trains connect Bengaluru Karnataka with Chennai, Kochi, Trivandrum, Patna, Darbhanga, Kolkata , Varanasi, Ahmedabad , Bhubaneshwar , Guwahati, etc. Long distance train journeys from Bangalore take 36 to 60 hours depending on route. Fast Shatabdi, Rajdhani, Double Decker and Duronto express are also available from Bangalore.

Bangalore is very conveniently connected by road. Regular buses are available from Mumbai, Chennai , Pune , Goa , Mangalore , Kochi , Trivandrum and many more places. One can find a bus depending on the budget. AC, Non AC and Sleeper coaches are easily available. You can book a ticket for the same from online platforms or ask a travel agent to provide the same. Karnataka tourism has a number of buses running between Bangalore and many different cities. You can choose from the ordinary seater buses, regular deluxe or superfast AC buses. All buses depart from Kempagowda Bus station and stop in Electronic City, Yeshwanthpur, Hebbal and different areas of the city. 

You can also drive to Bangalore from major cities of India. NH 4, NH 63 and NH 7 directly connect Bangalore with other cities. Driving to Bangalore is a fun experience and the change in landscape is simply glorious.

Best time to visit Bangalore City

Bengaluru’s climate is evergreen and pleasant. Evening showers are very common and the city rarely experiences summers with temperature going above 35 degrees. But it is recommended that you plan a visit to this city as per the time period and season.

February and March

Bangalore is a city of gardens and lakes. The month of February and March witnesses the blooming of gorgeous flowers in Lalbagh and many different locations. The spring season makes Bangalore very beautiful and serene. Nature lovers will have a time of their life in the city.

April to June

Summer season start in the month of April. The afternoons are harsh but chances of evening showers make the Bangalore climate pleasant and calm. This is the best time to go on pub hopping and taste some amazing brews.

July to early September

The evening showers turn into fully fledged monsoon season from late June which continues till early September. This is not a right time to visit the city as Bangalore weather will keep you stuck in your hotel and you will find very less chances to go out for sightseeing.

Late September to October

The monsoon season fades away and the weather becomes pleasant again. Since the famed Mysore Dasara is organized in either last week of September or early October, most of the visitors plan their trip keeping the actual dates in mind.

December to January

Winter season arrives in late November and the temperature often goes down to 12 degrees. If you visit Nandi Hills during these months, then you’ll find yourself engulfed in a blanket of fog and dense clouds. These months are also the time when the nearby bird sanctuaries are visited by migratory birds.

Lalbagh Botanical Gardens: Lalbagh Botanical Garden is famous for a reason! This majestic glass house was constructed by Haider Ali and later modified by Tipu Sultan. It houses approximately 1800 species of plants, herbs, and trees, including a rare collection of tropical and sub-tropical plants. This garden got its name from a collection of red roses that bloom all the year round.

Ulsoor Lake: This beautiful lake is spread over an area of 125 acres and it is one of the biggest lakes in Bangalore. It offers many recreational activities such as swimming and boating to make tourists enjoy each and every moment of their trip in a delightful manner.

Vidana Soudha: Vidana Soudha is Bangalore's most important building, housing the state legislature of Karnataka. It is constructed in the Neo-Dravidian style with intricate woodwork on doors and cabinet rooms, that are made of Sandalwood and Rosewood from Mysore. The building lights up in the evening and looks absolutely stunning.

Cubbon Park: This massive green park was constructed by Richard Sankey, Chief Engineer of Mysore, to offer a refreshing surroundings to walkers, joggers, and nature lovers. This lush green paradise has various species of exotic plants, flowering trees, and ornamental plants. Park is named after the erstwhile Commissioner of Bangalore, Sir Mark Cubbon.

The Government Musuem: This red color building was built in the year 1886 with 18 galleries to display rare collection of jewelry, amazing sculptures, old paintings, and Neolithic finds of different civilizations.

Bangalore Travel Blog 2022: A Spirited One-Stop Metropolis

Bangalore Travel Blog: More than a destination guide, this is a blog about its people, development, city, traffic, tourism, and overall whether it’s worth visiting as a traveler. I decided to make this a separate post apart from my list of things to do in Bangalore for curious travelers/backpackers who haven’t an idea of what to expect here.

This post has more to do with the inner tips for backpackers, offbeat things to do, things to avoid, and some overall perspectives of the restless city . I hope this last bit of crumbles helps you out. Here goes my Bangalore travel blog .

How to Get to Bangalore?

Lying in South Karnataka with no ends touching the country’s seas, the only ways to get there is by road, train, or flight. All the paths prove convenient depending on where you visit from. For interstate visitors, road and train connectivity are the cheapest options. For a 2 days itinerary, here’s how you can plan your Bangalore trip .

Buses and Majestic

There are diverse government and private buses available from different towns and villages around Karnataka. The most popular hub in Bangalore for bus travel is the Majestic bus station. It lies in the heart of the city with buses moving around the clock.

City route buses (BMTC) stroll the station during the day (Kempegowda Majestic St.) while the long-journey buses to different parts of the country fill the nights (buses around Anand Rao Circle). Any destination you’re looking to go from Bangalore or to any part of Bangalore, you should find a bus from here. The Majestic bus stand is also close to the railway and Metro Station.

Whether Bangalore or any part of the country, train’s said to be the cheapest and most comfortable option. With Bangalore being the second largest city in India areawise, it has many trains stops inside the city. I’m not sure about stations other than Bangalore, but here, the train stations have come a long way.

The walkways are much cleaner than in earlier days, they’re safer, and they even have WiFi today.

The four major stations here are:

• KSR Bengaluru City Junction (Station code: SBC) also known as Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna station near Majestic
• Cantonment Railway Station in Vasanth Nagar (BNC)
• Yeshwanthpur Junction (YPR),
• and Krishnarajapuram Railway Station (KJM)

Kempegowda International Airport (KIA)

The fastest way to get to Bangalore is via the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). It lies beyond Yelahanka on the outskirts of Bangalore and it’s a 25-30 km drive into the city. It’s one of the few major international airports in India and still expanding.

The easiest way is to get an Uber or Ola taxi to make it to the city. There’s a dedicated taxi stand for both the popular cab services right outside the airport terminals. There are plenty of other companies that offer Airport pickups such as Savaari, GoiBibo, and WelcomePickups.

An affordable yet comfortable option for backpack travelers is the Vayu Vajra Volvo bus service (KSTDC). To those who aren’t aware, this is an air-conditioned bus service only to and fro for the airport route from different parts of Bangalore.

Best time to visit Bangalore

Compared to all the places I’ve visited and lived in in India, I believe that Bangalore has the best weather, facilities, and standard of living. While there are the rainy and winter seasons, the climate remains cool throughout the year. It’s usually never too cold or too hot.

So don’t bother about the climate when timing your visit. What you should look out for are the holiday season during Christmas and other special occasions.

Avoid the holiday season in Bangalore . If you haven’t any choice but to visit during the holiday season, make sure to book your preferred accommodation in advance.

Also, expect to spend more during this time as prices typically go higher. For example, Wonderla increases its prices on holidays sometimes by 10%. The same goes for attractions, cab prices due to higher traffic, and hotel accommodation.

Bangalore Travel Blog: How to Get around?

Unless you have a private/rented vehicle, getting around Bangalore is a considerable matter. For one, public transport in most areas is crowded and incredibly slow. It’s great for solo travelers used to the hustle but isn’t suitable when you’re carrying bags.

Metro is the most ideal transport in Bangalore but it has yet to cover many routes in Bangalore. But when in central Bangalore, the Metro proves to be the most reliable option for travel. You can keep a card and top up a good amount if you’re staying in Bangalore for long.

For a short-term stay, you can purchase a temporary coin (it’s basically an e-ticket for Metro) for a specific destination. Keep cash handy to purchase it as Metro stations almost never accept UPI or online payment.

Rental services are great when you’re well-versed with driving on Indian roads with its traffic. If not either of them, the last resort is online taxi services like Uber. These services are very reliable but can be expensive, considering the petrol rates today.

I’d recommend planning out your itinerary keeping the attractions’ locations in mind. For example, you can visit the Cubbon Park , Visvesvaraya Museum, Church Street, and MG road all in one go as they’re all close to one another.

Tips for using Cab Services

Cab services are the most reliable transport in Bangalore. They’re safer than other forms. Nonetheless, here are some precautions to take for first-time visitors:

• Book your ride from a trusted source . Some reputed services to go for are Ola, Uber, Meru, and Savaari.
• Avoid canceling your ride upon the driver’s request . Sometimes the driver will call up and request you to cancel the ride while they can do it themselves. When you cancel as a customer, extra charges will be levied on your next ride, so deny canceling and request to cancel it themselves.
• Don’t let the driver cancel once you’re in the vehicle . Don’t get me wrong – drivers are hospitable here. But online services take a huge commission from them. Thus some might ask if they can cancel the ride and let you have the ride for the same price. This is a win-win if you’re well-versed with the destination route and Bangalore. But if you aren’t and safety is your top priority, kindly deny the driver’s request.
• Keep an eye on the map route . Again, drivers tend to take shortcuts to lower fuel consumption and avoid tollbooths. For your safety, it’s best to request the driver to stay on the route as shown on the app.

Bangalore Travel Blog: Where to Stay?

There are all kinds of stays considering the city is tagged as the ‘Silicon Valley of India’, starting from dormitory hostels for backpack travelers to luxurious 7-star resorts for families.

There are tons of options for online hotel bookings. But from someone who’s booked stays locally, there are plenty of stays where you can book on the spot as well. When you don’t mind the quality of stay and need just a place to crash, finding accommodation shouldn’t be an issue in any part of Bangalore.

But for reputed hotels such as Radisson and Shangri-La, it’s best to prebook for the best prices – especially during the holiday seasons.

When you’re booking a budget stay online, make sure to pay after you check out the place yourself – there are tons of fake AirBnbs and you never know what’s behind that cozy-looking door. On the safer side, here are some trusted websites/apps I use for booking stays in any part of India:

• Booking.com : Has the widest range of options. They let you book rooms without upfront payment. Check out all stays in Bangalore here .
• HostelWorld : This is relatively new to India but has a reputation among backpack travelers around the world. But Bangalore already has over a dozen hostel stays registered on the site, so give it a try.

I’ve written about my encounters with adventurous activities in Bangalore over the years. I’ve yet to try more things. But putting all of these things together, here are all the crazy things to do in Bangalore:

• Walk around Cubbon Park
• Stroll the Church Street, MG Road, and Commercial Street
• Check out Lavelle Road and UB City
• Visit popular attractions like Lalbagh Botanical Garden, ISKCON Temple, Bangalore Palace, and HAL aerospace museum
• Drive to Nandi Hills at dawn
• Day trek to Skandagiri and Channagiri Betta
• Make a 1-Day trip to Wonderla, Bangalore
• Eat at innovative pet-friendly cafes like Therpup
• Try some exotic restobars and pubs in Indiranagar and Koramangla
• Go-kart at Meco Kartopia !
• Cycle with Bangalore’s cycling clubs
• Shop at malls like Phoenix MarketCity, Orion, and Mantri Square
• Book a vineyard tour

These are all the things I got in mind when it comes to all the things to do in Bangalore. In a nutshell, Bangalore is a hub for literally anything you wish to try. It’s a place for any kind of traveler – be it someone religious or a party freak, a backpack trekking enthusiast , or an extravagant traveler.

And no matter what you’re into, you’re bound to find people with similar interests here. There are clubs, meetups, and groups for literally all types of interests. That makes up for the best part of the city – people here explore, engage, and encourage one another .

Insider tips for Visting Bangalore

Remember I mentioned some insider tips at the beginning of this Bangalore travel blog post? Well, here are some that most locals might be aware of. This goes out to welcome the curious travel enthusiasts who’ve yet to visit the Garden City of India.

Keep more than one payment form handy

• Drive early in the morning
• Have a Kannada-speaking local guide
• Avoid local auto stands for long distances
• Book on-the-spot for budget accommodation
• Make use of Yulu bikes
• Get your sim card from the airport

Withdraw from banks for foreign exchange currency

Always keep backup money handy. Most people don’t carry cash in Bangalore, thus it’s difficult to get a chance for all your payments. Make sure to keep some money on your online UPI wallet (PayTM, Google Pay, and PhonePe), and hard cash as well. Always keep the cash as your last resort.

Most shops, taxi drivers, and even coconut water vendors have online payment availability here.

For foreigners, keep in mind to make an online wallet account. Paytm is a great option to link your International card whereas previously you had to transfer funds to someone you know in India who can top up your Paytm wallet for your use.

Drive early in the Morning

I once got stuck in Bangalore’s traffic in the evening and I was stuck on the road for a good 3-4 hours! Avoid the evenings and afternoons while traveling at all costs, especially the highways. Early mornings between 6 to 8 am are best for getting around the city.

Have a Kannada Speaking local guide

There are people who might know English and yet will speak to you in Kannada on purpose. Forget foreign nationals, people who visit from North India find it difficult to deal with people here at times. If you’re getting a local guide, make sure they speak Kannada. The language goes a long way – thank me later :)

Avoid auto-stands for long-distances

Local auto and taxi stand here, like any place in the world, charge their own monstrous rates. Unless you know the locality well and can bargain, don’t go for it. Book an Uber for distances over 5 kilometers, it’ll save you a lot.

Book on-the-spot for Budget Accommodation

As I mentioned earlier, you never know what’s on the other side of that pretty vacation room. Check your stay out before you pay. But another tip to getting budget stays is to look for local accommodation .

I was looking to book accommodation near Majestic for a night, most budget stays start at Rs. 500 – 600 per night online. All I wanted was a place to freshen up. So I walked into a local inn on the same street and got a room for Rs. 400!

Make use of Yulu Bikes

No matter where you go, there’s a lot of walking wherever you go. In commercial hubs like Church Street, MG Road, and Cubbon Park, make use of Yulu bikes – they’re electric bikes, cheap, reliable, and most importantly easy to use for anyone.

Download the Yulu app , there will be a security deposit amount of Rs. 200 or so when you make an account. Once you take a ride, you can request your deposit amount back which will be returned after cutting off your ride fee.

Get your sim card from the Airport

Getting a sim card anywhere in India is tougher than in most countries. You’ll need to verify identification and proof of address which makes it a lengthy process when you’re getting one at a local sim card shop.

However, getting a sim card when you land at the airport is an easier and quicker method. I’d recommend getting the Airtel sim card as they offer the best network in most areas throughout India. I found this post that’ll help you get a sim card in India as a traveler .

The last tip on this Bangalore travel blog – Withdrawing cash from foreign exchange retail in the airport is convenient but we all know it’s expensive. Another alternative is to take out cash from an international bank ATM.

If you don’t have an international card, make an Indian bank account and deposit your funds to withdraw cash. Banks inevitably charge lesser for currency exchange than airports for large amounts. SBI bank is said to have low overseas exchange rates but has a currency equivalent limit of Rs. 50,000 for global transactions per month.

We have opportunity to go on a 5-day trip to Bandipur National Park with Wayanad, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the thrilling safaris to the serene nature walks, every moment of the trip was filled with excitement and wonder. Firstly, the all-inclusive package provided by Wayanad was a great value for money. All our accommodations, meals, and activities were taken care of, leaving us with nothing to worry about except enjoying our trip. The accommodations were comfortable and clean, and the food provided was delicious and authentic. The highlight of the trip was, of course, the safaris in Bandipur National Park. We had the chance to spot a variety of wildlife, including elephants, tigers, and deer. Our guide was knowledgeable and shared interesting facts about the animals and the park. The park itself was well-maintained and we could see the efforts put in by the authorities to preserve the natural habitat of the animals. Apart from the safaris, we also went on nature walks in the surrounding areas. These walks were a great way to immerse ourselves in the beauty of the park and get up close with the flora and fauna. We also visited a nearby tribal village, which was a unique experience. We got to interact with the locals and learn about their way of life. Wayanad also took us on a day trip to the nearby Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, which was equally mesmerizing. The sanctuary was less crowded and we were able to spot more animals here, including some rare species of birds. The scenic views and peaceful atmosphere of the sanctuary made it a memorable experience. Overall, the 5 days spent in Bandipur National Park with Wayanad were truly amazing. The trip was well-organized, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. They went above and beyond to ensure that we had a comfortable and enjoyable trip. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone looking for an adventure-filled getaway in the lap of nature. It was a perfect blend of wildlife, nature, and culture, and I can't wait to go back again.
