‘Rattled’ is the third song on Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 .
The song was primarily written by Jeff Lynne. It was sung by Lynne with George Harrison , Tom Petty, and Roy Orbison.
The drummer on the track, Jim Keltner, was also recorded playing the shelves and contents of a refrigerator.
Jim started playing shelves, and it sounded great; it sounded just like old springs. It sounded really good, it suited the track really well. Nothing was off-limits in any way. It was the opportunity to create sounds that you’d never have got before. As you were doing it you already felt like you were listening to the finished product, and it sounded great. Those were very happy moments, to be listening to a song knowing that you’d got it already, and all you could do was make it better.
The sound I think is so close to a good old rock ‘n’ roll thing from, like, the late ’50s. But that partially is, I think, the guitars, acoustics. And the fridge. I tell you, it’s the great new sound, folks! It’s happening. You know, it had to be a bit rough, but that was the fun about it. It’s like the most basic rock ‘n’ roll sound.

Meaning of Rattled by Traveling Wilburys
The song "Rattled" by Traveling Wilburys explores the intense emotional turmoil and obsession that comes from being infatuated with someone. The lyrics depict a sense of being completely unsettled and shaken whenever the protagonist encounters this person, to the point where it affects them even in their sleep. They feel twisted, turned around, and constantly fluctuating between highs and lows in their emotional state.
The repetition of the phrase "over you" in the chorus suggests that the protagonist's rattled state is directly connected to their feelings for this person. They are deeply affected by their presence and have become consumed by their thoughts and emotions. The bridge reveals the protagonist's desperation, pleading for the person to spend time with them and expressing confusion over their own feelings. They acknowledge that on the surface, everything may seem fine, but deep down in their soul, they are truly shaken and rattled.
The third verse further emphasizes the protagonist's mental and physical state, as they describe being shaken and torn up by the roots, feeling a deep inner turmoil that reaches all the way down to their boots. The outro repeats the sentiment of being rattled over this person, emphasizing their ongoing obsession and inability to escape these intense emotions.
Overall, "Rattled" explores the all-consuming nature of infatuation and the profound impact someone can have on another's emotional well-being. It delves into the overwhelming power that love and desire can hold over an individual, causing them to feel deeply shaken and twisted in their pursuit of the person they long for.

The Traveling Wilburys were a British-American supergroup consisting of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty. Originating from an idea discussed by Harrison and Lynne during the sessions for Harrison's 1987 album Cloud Nine, the band formed in April 1988 after the five members united to record a bonus track for Harrison's next European single. When this collaboration, "Handle with Care", was deemed too good for such a limited release, the group agreed to record a full album, titled Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1. Following Orbison's death in December 1988, the Wilburys continued as a quartet and released a second album, titled Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3, in 1990. The project's work received much anticipation given the diverse nature of … more »
