Day 1: New York

Welcome to the "Big Apple," the "City That Never Sleeps" - New York is a city of superlatives: America's biggest; its most exciting; its business and cultural capitals. Upon arrival at the airport, transfer to your hotel and check in. Rest of the evening is at leisure to explore the city on your own. Overnight.

Day 2: New York - City Tour

After breakfast, enjoy a City Tour which includes the Statue of Liberty - take a ferry ride to Liberty Island for a spectacular view of the New York city skyline. Next, enjoy the view from the 86th floor of the Empire State Building. Later in the day, see Rockefeller Center, Wall Street, Ground Zero and Central Park, Times Square, United Nations and Trump Tower. Return to your hotel. Overnight.

Day 3: New York - Washington D.C. - Tour

Breakfast. Check out and proceed by plane/train to Washington D.C., capital of the United States of America and home of historic neighbourhoods and monuments. Other than the federal government, tourism is DC's biggest industry. The city attracts almost twenty million visitors each year. Arrive, transfer to your hotel and check in. Overnight.

Day 4: Washington - City Tour

After breakfast, visit the White House, Lincoln Memorial, Supreme Court, the Capitol Building, the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, Union Station, World War II Memorial Building, Pentagon building and Washington monument. Overnight.

Day 5: Washington - Buffalo - USA side Niagara Falls

Breakfast. Travel by plane/train/road to Buffalo, to view the world-famous falls, which are one of the Natural Wonders of the World. Arrive, transfer to your hotel and check in. Later, explore the city on your own. Overnight.

Day 6: Niagara - Maid of the Mist Boat Ride

Breakfast. Today, board the famous boat “Maid of the Mist,” which takes you close to the thundering falls and around the American and Horseshoe Falls (seasonal). Return to your hotel to freshen up after your damp ride. You can also visit the falls on your own at night to see them lit up beautifully. Overnight.

Day 7: Niagara

Breakfast. Check out and transfer to the nearest airport / railway station by coach and depart for your next destination.

It was a wonderful experience to travel US east coast tour.The Tour manager Shri Chetan Surve is a very humble and cheerful person and has handled the tour with great enthusiasm.

Washington d.c (1 nights).

Mumbai to Mumbai tour guests will report at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai as per the scheduled flight departure time and proceed to Washington DC – The Capital city of world’s number 1 Superpower nation USA. Upon arrival, Veena World Tour Manager will guide all guests for airport formalities and proceed to the city.

Washington D.C – Philadelphia (1 Night)

Today we explore Washington DC, we see Capitol Hill, take a photo stop at the backdrop of White House – official residence of the president of the United States of America. Later we visit Lincoln Memorial – built to honour the 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. It is also an important symbol of the American Civil Rights Movement and Martin Luther King Jr’s famous speech ‘I have a Dream’. Then we pass by Washington Monument – The Obelisk. Later we proceed to Philadelphia. Upon arrival, we see Philadelphia City Hall, Independence Hall and Liberty Bell building. Then we drive on the famous Benjamin Franklin Parkway – a scenic boulevard known as Champs-Élysées of Philadelphia. It also has an international flavour by being lined with flags of countries from around the world, it’s fun to spot our Indian national flag. Its time to see the Rocky Statue and the Rocky Steps and click an iconic picture.

Philadelphia – Hershey’s – Niagara Falls / Buffalo (2 Nights)

Today we proceed to Niagara Falls – Natural Wonder of the World and a dream of every person on the Earth to visit it. En-route we visit Hershey’s Chocolate World – One of the largest manufactures of chocolate in the world. Enjoy Hershey’s Chocolate Tour and buy famous Hershey’s Kisses and other popular chocolates.

Niagara Falls / Buffalo

Today we explore famous Niagara Falls, we enjoy a Helicopter Ride (subject to weather conditions) – fly high and witness Niagara Falls from the sky offering breath-taking views. We also visit Niagara Aerospace Museum – displays a 100-year collection of Western New York's rich aviation and aerospace history. We then visit the Goat Island and get really close to the falls by visiting Cave of the Winds – a natural cave behind Bridal Veil Falls at the Niagara Falls. Later, we enjoy 'Maid of the Mist' boat ride and get an opportunity to see the three falls – Horseshoe Falls, American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls. In the afternoon, we visit the architectural wonder - Prospect Point Observation Tower to get an unobstructed panoramic view of the Niagara Falls. Later we enjoy shopping at Fashion Outlet Mall in Niagara. In the evening witness the illumination where Niagara Falls is transformed into an incredible, multi-coloured water and light masterpiece. Please Note: Cave of the winds and Maid of the mist starts from Mid-May. Get a chance to view the frozen Niagara Falls during winters Please Note: In 2020, the helicopter ride at Niagara Falls wasn't included in our itinerary. We've added it for Apr 2024 onwards tours. If you are a FTV guest of 2020, and wish to do the helicopter ride you can pay extra for the same. If not, all sightseeing as mentioned in the itinerary will be completed and you can enjoy free time exploring Niagara Falls while the group does Helicopter ride.

Niagara Falls – New York/ New Jersey (2 Nights)

Today we proceed to New York – the most loved city as well as major commercial, financial and cultural centre of the world, also known as Big Apple. En-route we visit Corning Museum of Glass – the museum's Glass Collection showcases more than 35 centuries of glass artistry and modern installations made by international artists, also known for the Gorilla Glass – the ultra-thin layer that Steve Jobs picked to shield the I phone in 2007. Here we see The Hot Glass Show which demonstrates the process of glass making

New York/ New Jersey

Today we take a ferry ride to Liberty Island to see the Statue of Liberty – a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbour. This copper statue was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States. It is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. This statue was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Bartholdi and its metal framework by Gustave Eiffel. Take the perfect photo of the statue. Afterwards we explore New York City, we see the Charging Bull – Symbol of the American Stock Market, 9/11 Memorial – a national tribute to honour the lives lost in September 11, 2001 attacks on Twin Towers and visit the Observatory deck of One World Trade Center – the tallest skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere that gives panoramic views of New York City. We then pass by BMW bridges. BMW stands for Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge & Williamsburg Bridge. Further we pass by Rockefeller centre, Trump Tower and United Nations Headquarters. We take a stroll around Times Square – A Major commercial intersection, tourist destination and a hub of Broadway theatres in the Midtown Manhattan known for its big, bright, unforgettable arena with flashing neon lights and giant digital billboards.

• All meals are provided by Veena World in case the flight reaches the stipulated destination early morning or leaves destination late in the evening.
• ‘In Case if any sightseeing is not done due to weekly closure, an alternative sightseeing will be done for the same’.
• Standard Check-in and check-out time of International hotels is usually 1500hrs and 1200hrs respectively.
• Guests may please note that for Domestic flights or internal flights from one city to another city on international tours, the baggage allowance will be as per the respective airline baggage policy and weight regulations. Guests are requested to pack their belongings and carry luggage in accordance to the respective airlines baggage allowance. Excess baggage (if any) will be chargeable as per the airline policy and the same has to be borne by the guest.

• Domestic Flight Booking on the following Wednesday - FLY OUT OF BUF Niagara Falls  To  MCO (Orlando) . Hotel Check-in is at 3 p.m. in Orlando.
• Domestic Flight Booking on the following  Wednesday -  MCO, Orlando to Las Vegas. Please reach Vegas by evening at 4 P.M. Hotel Check-in in Vegas is at 4 P.M. The Tour starts at 5:30 P.M., followed by dinner and V Show. There is no refund or rescheduling for not reaching and missing any part of the itinerary.
• Your Flight will be departing out of  San Francisco ON Tuesday. Check-out at SFO Hotel by 11 A.M. on Tuesday. Please make a note of the same while booking the Flight.
• Please provide the flight information as soon as possible to ensure smooth transfers.

• Valid contact number for the passenger is a must at the time of reservation to ensure smooth transfers. Passengers need to wear masks upon entering the vehicle for their pickup.
• For the comfort of all passengers, we request passengers to travel light (recommended luggage: One carry on and One International size suitcase.
• All the hotels/restaurants/attractions confirmed for this tour comply to COVID guidelines as mandated by CDC. Passengers will have to follow the rules when in premises of respective hotels.
• Check-in time at hotel is 4 pm while the check-out is 11 am. If the guests want to extend their stay, they can contact the front desk and request them.
• Porterage/Baggage Handling is not a part of the tour. If the guests require this service, they can contact the bell desk at respective hotel and pay on own.
• Our Tour manager will meet the group in the hotel lobby at 6 pm.
• We have couple of locations where restaurants are walking distance from the hotel. For passengers, not keen on walking, can take an uber or a cab to the destination on own.
• Wheelchair passengers, if planning on joining our tour will need to have someone travel with them to assist the passengers. Tour manager will be unable to provide aid. Also, please note that our coaches are not equipped for handicapped travelers.
• Seating Arrangement in the bus will be first come first serve. The coach size will vary based on the number of passengers. This can be 15-seater/25-seater/30-seater/55-seater. For van tours below 15 passengers, we will have Driver/Tour leader.
• All documents for Orlando (Park tickets/Cruise if booked by us will be handed over by the tour manager on the East coast. Please inform the passengers that there will be no tour manager for the Orlando portion.
• Wonderful World Tours is not responsible for lost Valuables/Travel documents. We request the passengers to take care of their personal belongings.
• Hotel in NY/ORLANDO/VEGAS will ask for CC at the time of check in towards incidentals. The hotel usually puts a hold on the CC and this hold will be released if no expenses are incurred. It usually takes anywhere from 2-3 weeks for the charge to disappear on the Credit statement. Make sure to get a Zero statement balance from the hotel. If paying cash to the front desk, please make sure to collect the same before checking out.
• In Vegas the Check in is required to be done by passengers themselves. Please expect the long wait during check at hotel front desk. There is no water or kettle is provided in Vegas hotel.
• We charge late fee for bookings that come in within 10 days of travel. This will be $25 per person. $35 wire transfer fee applies for all bank transactions.
• The passengers are liable to pay for any damages caused while on tour either at the hotel they are staying in: coach or at restaurants and attractions. We will collect the valued amount before the end of the tour.
• We strongly encourage all the passengers to buy optional tours through us. We are not responsible for any bookings made on own. Also, if the passengers are deviating from the itinerary, this must be mentioned clearly in the email and acknowledged.
• We recommend that the passengers keep political and religious discussions to none during the travel. This is a vacation package that is open to everyone irrespective of their difference.
• Because of the current scenario, all breakfast and dinner will be Ala Carte and brought to the table. We request the passengers to follow the guidelines of the restaurant.
• The Weather can vary considerable depending on the month of travel. Please make sure to have weather appropriate clothing. Walking shoes are recommended.
• Tour leader has the right to change the itinerary based on Weather and traffic conditions. Please follow protocol while on tour. In case of any breakdown, we will try our best to fix the problem. However, no monetary compensation will be provided. In case of natural Calamities and wildfire the route and itinerary will change without prior notification.
• Wonderful World Tours does not hold any responsibility for any injuries or accidents that might happen while on tour. Passengers are requested to carry Insurance with them to safeguard themselves in case of any eventuality. Our Tour managers will do all they can to aid the passengers in their time of need.
• Children under 2 years travel free. Child price is applicable for children between the ages of 3 years to 9 years. 9 years and Older are adults.
• Standard room is with King bed. For 2 or more passengers (maximum occupancy is 4 per room, we will book a room with two double beds. For parents traveling with children, we will book a room with 2 beds. Rollaway beds are not allowed in a room with 2 beds. We try our best to accommodate your room request regarding view and category. This request is subjected to hotel and cannot be guaranteed. Our Pricing for the hotels includes room rate, taxes and Breakfast if applicable. The passengers are liable to pay for any additional incidentals that they may incur at the hotel.

DAY 07 : BUFFALO - LAS VEGAS - THE 'V' SHOW

Check out of the hotel before 11 a.m. and transfer to Buffalo airport for your departure to Las Vegas. Your driver will pick you up from the hotel based on your departure flight timing.

Fly to Las Vegas.  

Arrive at Las Vegas International Airport to begin your West Coast tour. You will be met by our representative at the baggage claim area and transferred to your hotel. ​Situated in the heart of the Strip, Hotel Paris offers easy access to unique shows and outdoor shopping plazas, embodying the vibrancy of the City of Lights.

Check in to the hotel after 4 p.m. Due to wait times in individual check-in queues potentially lasting up to 2 hours, our representative will distribute room keys to guests in the lobby between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.  to avoid the inconvenience of waiting in line.

Meet your tour manager at 5:30 p.m. on the ground floor near the elevator to commence the tour.

Dinner will be served at an Indian restaurant, followed by The ‘V’ - The Ultimate Variety Show at either the V Theater or Saxe Theater in the Miracle Mile Shops at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino at 8:30 p.m. This engaging and thrilling show offers an entertaining blend of high-energy specialty acts, daredevil stunts, and fast-paced performances from across the globe. Join your Tour Manager for an evening meal at an Indian restaurant. Following dinner, experience the radiant allure of the renowned Las Vegas Strip tour, 'The Strip' aboard the coach. Get a fantastic view of the glitz and glamour of Vegas and visit its notable landmarks. Stop at the Fremont Street Experience to witness the dazzling Viva Vision Light Show, a spectacular sound and light presentation displayed on an enormous canopy screen featuring 12 million LEDs, with zip liners gliding overhead. Afterward, enjoy some leisure time to explore at your own pace.

DAY 09: LOS ANGELES SIGHTSEEING

Check out from the hotel and after breakfast at an Indian restaurant, transfer to Los Angeles. En route, enjoy some retail therapy at Ontario Mills , one of the top shopping and tourist destinations in Southern California.

DAY 13: DEPARTURE

After breakfast, check out from the hotel (check out time is 11 a.m.). Transfer will be provided to SFO airport. If you have an early flight, please take a cab on own. Breakfast is not available if you are taking an early flight.

- For passenger comfort, travel light (recommended luggage: One carry-on and One International size suitcase). The coach can accommodate only one large and one small bag per person.

- Porterage/Baggage Handling is not included. Guests requiring this service can contact the respective Hotel's bell desk and pay for it.

- The standard room features a king-size bed, with a maximum occupancy of 4 guests per room. Rooms accommodating three or four guests will be arranged with two double beds. Price per guest is based on accommodation for two adults in a double room. Single travelers have to pay a $1000 single room supplement to ensure a private room.

Children (2-9 years) will receive a 30% reduction in the tour price.

Duration: 12-14 hours; Pick Up Time : 6 a.m. from hotel.

1-a.  Add-on a helicopter ride  (40 minutes) in the Canyon for $275 per person​.

2. Air and Ground Tour of Grand Canyon West Rim with Skywalk ($425 per person)

Duration of Tour: 6 to 7 hours from hotel to hotel. Fly to the Grand Canyon West Rim aboard an elite airplane.

2-a. Add-on a helicopter ride  (40 minutes) in the Canyon for $275 per person.

3. Coach Tour of Bryce Canyon & Zion National Parks ($175 per person)

4. Las Vegas Strip Helicopter Ride ($150 per person)

Duration: 12-15 minutes.

1. Pickup from JFK airport and LaGuardia (LGA) airport is complementary. Pickup from Newark (EWR) airport can be arranged upon request and will cost $45 (sedan: 2 guests) or $75 (van: up to 4 guests).

FLIGHT INFORMATION

Travelers can book their flights on own with any airline of their choice. Suggested timings for arrival and departure are as follows:

1. Arrive at New York JFK on Thursday between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. If you arrive after 5 p.m. (for domestic arrivals) or 4 p.m. (international arrivals), you might miss the itinerary scheduled for Day 1.

2. Depart from Buffalo BUF airport on Day 7 (Wednesday) anytime in the morning but arrive at Las Vegas International airport (LAS) before 4 p.m. The tour begins at 5:30 p.m., with dinner and the V Show. Please note that there are no refunds or rescheduling options for missing any part of the itinerary.

Our representative will be at the Las Vegas airport's arrival baggage claim area, holding a sign with the guest's name, to assist in pick-up for both international and domestic arrivals.

PAYMENT AND CANCELLATION POLICY

Booking: A $250 deposit per guest is required to reserve a place on the tour. The remaining balance must be paid at least 45 days prior to departure.

Cancellation:  Reservations can be changed or cancelled at no charge, up to 22 days before the scheduled tour date. For cancellations made between 21 and 11 days before the tour, we offer a 50% refund. No refunds will be provided for cancellations made 10 days or less prior to tour departure.

Surcharge:  A supplementary charge of $50 per person ($100 for single occupancy) is levied for bookings confirmed within ten days of the tour date. Additional charges may apply in cases where hotels are fully booked.

High Altitude

You should only make trips to high altitudes if you feel healthy. The following recommendations apply:

Advanced age is no barrier to high altitude. For blood pressure patients who are well controlled with medication, the altitude is not a concern. Asthmatics can travel to high altitudes without any problems. High-altitude air is less polluted with particles that can cause an asthma attack. Epileptics who are well controlled with medication should be able to negotiate the altitude.

Pregnant women: There may be a certain risk for pregnancy even without pre-existing diseases over 2500-3000 metres. Caution is therefore advised if in doubt, please consult your doctor in advance.

Infants: Short-term stays at the mountain tops are unproblematic. Infants and young children are often unable to equalise pressure during descent and are therefore increasingly at risk of ear irritation. Regular swallowing (drinking, sucking on a bottle) during the descent can prevent the occurrence of irritation.

Because children can chill faster than adults, always pay attention to sufficient protection from the cold at high altitude. Sunglasses and a good sunscreen are necessary on the glaciers!

Lung and heart patients who are already short of breath while at rest or when climbing stairs are advised not to stay at high altitude. Patients with angina pectoris or severely impaired performance with heart enlargement and heart failure should not visit high altitude. Coronary artery disease (angina pectoris) and heart enlargement with medical therapy should not visit high altitude. Patients with a pronounced risk profile for cardiovascular disease (smoker + high blood pressure + diabetes + high blood fats + overweight + occasional chest pain) should consult the doctor before visiting high altitude.

Do not stay at high altitude after having striated muscles or a stroke.

Pick up and Drop off points & Times

Passengers should arrive at the airport where flights are done by Star Tours at the allocated time. If you are doing your own flights, then you will need to meet the tour rep directly at the arrival terminal at the destination.

You will be sent an ATOL certificate if your flights are done with Star Tours.

You should always follow the protocol for flights as set out by the airline. You should check the board at the airport for any flight delays, change of gate number or any other useful information provided by the airline.

Visas & Passport

You will require a visa to travel to the United States unless you are eligible to enter the United States visa free under the  Visa Waiver Program  (VWP), or you are a citizen of  Canada or Bermuda .Most passport holders can get an Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) through the Visa Waiver Programme (VWP), which allows travel to the US for up to 90 days. The types of journey allowed under the VWP include tourism, certain types of business visit and transit to another country.

Entry requirements for UK nationals :

Everyone from the UK going to the USA by air or sea, even those just passing through, must fill out an Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) form in advance.

Entry requirements for Indian Passport Holders : Passport valid for at least 6 months upon arrival. Visas are required.

B-2 visitor visas are non-immigrant visas for persons traveling to United States temporarily for tourism, pleasure or visiting.

A visa is also required if you applied for travel authorization under the  Electronic System for Travel Authorization  (ESTA) and your registration has been denied.

It is a two step process – First is documents collection, data-entry and application is reviewed and second step is Interview with a consular officer.

The climate in USA varies across different parts of the country. Generally, the western and southern parts of US have warmer weather as compared to the eastern and northern parts. The eastern/northern parts of US experience harsh winters with heavy snowfall but the summers are pleasant. The western/southern part has extremely hot summers and comparatively tolerable winters

USA can be divided into six climate regions, excluding Alaska, Hawaii and outlying territories. The climate varies considerably between different regions.

Northwest Pacific

Mid/South Pacific

West Coast (North)

(Includes states like Oregon and Washington to the crest of the Cascade Mountains)

This is the perhaps the wettest part of the country. There are scattered rain showers all year round. Temperatures are mild averaging around 40 degree F. (32.2 degree C). The summer months are pleasantly warmer but never too hot. You can see fogs along the coast during the warmer weather but the fog is less dense during mid-day.

Warm clothes: You will need extra warm clothes for winters like leather jackets, thermal jackets, warm inners, leather gloves etc.

West Coast (South and Mid)

(Includes states like California, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah and Nevada)

These states have generally dry and delightful summers.

California has excellent weather all the year round, with the northern part of the state somewhat cooler (quiet chilly in the winter but seldom freezing). There are very few places in California that experience snow, and the state is known for its nice weather. Mostly all the cities have tolerable winters.

The winter months in the other states like Montana, Idaho and Wyoming can be very cold, with temperatures dropping well below 0 degree F. Colorado, Utah and Nevada are known for their excellent skiing.

Warm clothes: For California you will need warm clothes for winters. For the rest of the Mid-South Pacific region you will need warmer apparel.

This region is moderately dry. Precipitation occurs mainly in late spring and early summer. Summers are pleasant but winter time can be harsh, with lots of snow and heavy chilly winds. Extremes within the Midwest can drop down to -50 degree F.

East Coast (North)

(Includes states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, Maryland).

This entire area is moderately rainy. In winter, the region experiences heavy snow and freezing rain. Summers are usually pleasant, sunny and warm. The fall is especially beautiful in wooded areas.

Warm clothes: You will need extra warm clothes for leather jackets, thermal jackets, warm inners, leather gloves etc.

East Coast (South)

(Includes states like portions of Arkansas and Louisiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia)

Like the Northeast, this entire area experiences moderate rains fairly evenly throughout the year. The Spring, Summer and Autumn seasons are all very pleasant. Some snow and freezing rain falls in winter but for the most part, the winters are quite mild and short lived.

Warm clothes: You will need moderate warm clothes for winters, but may need the extra warm ones for the cold weather that lasts for a very short duration of time.

Wheelchairs

We will accept lightweight manual wheelchair for travel, subject to them being capable of being stowed in the luggage hold of the vehicle. It is also essential that a family member is also on tour to push the wheelchair. Star Tour’s will also request hotels for suitably equipped rooms; however, this is only on a request basis and cannot be guaranteed.

For us to request a wheelchair for you with the airline, this request should be made to us in writing at the time of booking. The allocation of the wheelchair will be at the discretion of the airline/airport.

Transportation from Logan Airport to the Boston Hyatt was a mess!!!! No signs, no directions, and the taxi driver had no idea what to do with the voucher. Ended up paying for the taxi! Ridiculous!! 4. Service at the included dinner at the Daniel Webster Inn was horrible!! Kathy (our waitress) should be fired! However, the food was delicious! 5. Not enough time spent in Nantucket. 6. Way too much time spent at the Breakers in Newport. 7. This should not be considered an 8-day tour. All we did on day 8 was ride on the bus to the airport! Pros: 1. Tour director Robin was outstanding!! Wellness director, Brittany, was also fabulous! 2. Canolis, Cape Code Chips and Cape Codders on the bus was a nice touch! Thoroughly enjoyed the snacks on the bus! 3. Ferry to Martha's Vineyard was fun! Thoroughly enjoyed the talk session/information about the Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting Association. We the best time! Amanda, our tour director, was engaging, knowledgeable and fun! She made the tour the best! Louis our driver was excellent as well! And boy can he drive that bus!!! We saw so many historical sites and had a lot of fun along the way!

Tour director and driver were excellent!!! We were very disappointed with the coach. Something happened and apparently we didn’t get the bus we were supposed to. This bus was old , dirty, the seats didn’t work, some of the windows lost their seal so it was hard to see out of them. The video system didn’t work for the tour director to show pictures. On a positive note the food was great and the accommodations were very nice. The director and driver took it all in stride and that helped. Guess when you spend the amount of money that you do on these trips you expect a little better.

I was on a fall foliage tour with Globus. The guide was great, the itinerary was also very nice and I enjoyed it very much. I was however disappointed that despite Globus claiming on their website that they have "small group" tours that average 24 people there were 42 on our tour. I guess I should look for advertisement of the total group size instead of thinking that an "average" of 24 would be closer to 24 than to 42! Proof of vaccination was required, which was necessary for me to sign up in the first place but I truly felt deceived that my "small group" was almost double the average.

Our guide, Yvonne DeWit, was excellent! Organized, knowledgeable, informative. Interesting variety of stops from rugged Maine to quaint Vermont to historic Boston with much in between. Would highly recommend this tour and look forward to another one.

I joined a Travelling Time tour which was music themed (not mentioned in the initial enquiry). I don’t like country music but somehow that didn’t spoil a tour with a good natured group of people. I was one of three octogenarians and felt I was looked after well. Several of the group had travelled with this company for years ! There was a feeling that not enough research had been done regarding places to stop and places to eat. Personally I would have liked to see a little more of places and regretted not going round Mark Twain’s house in Hartford. Two “free” days in Boston and Martha’s Vineyard were really pleasant spent with a few of the group. It was a bit disappointing to find that two evening meals and breakfast were the only meals included in the tour. The hotels were very comfortable. The Waterbury, Vermont one was the most attractively situated. The coffee machines rarely worked. For me, anyway

When is the next total solar eclipse in the US after 2024 and what is its path? What to know

The highly anticipated 2024 total solar eclipse will cross North America on Monday , giving millions of sky-gazers the chance to see a rare cosmic event that won't be viewable again for 20 years.

The eclipse's  path of totality  will travel over a portion of northern Mexico before entering the U.S. It then it will cross 13 states  from Texas to Maine, where the spectacle is expected to attract huge crowds.

If you aren't lucky enough to be in the path of totality this time around, you will have another chance - you'll just have to wait until the 2040s.

When is the next total solar eclipse visible from the U.S.?

It will be 20 years before there's a chance to  witness a total solar eclipse  in the United States again.

According to NASA, after Monday's total solar  eclipse , the next one viewable from the contiguous U.S. will be on Aug. 23, 2044.

Unfortunately, the 2044 total  solar eclipse  won't have the broad reach across the U.S. as the 2024 eclipse.

The path of totality during the 2044 eclipse will only touch three states, according to the Planetary Society, a nonprofit involved in research, public outreach, and political space advocacy.

The eclipse will begin in Greenland, sweep through Canada and end around sunset in Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota.

2045 solar eclipse

While the 2044 total eclipse will only touch three states, a 2045 eclipse will have a more robust path across the U.S.

Expected to occur on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2045, this solar eclipse will trace a path of totality over California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.

A partial solar eclipse will also be viewable in 35 other states, according to National Eclipse.com

What is a total solar eclipse?

Any celestial object like a moon or a planet that passes between two other bodies can create  an eclipse  by obscuring the view of objects like the sun.

In the event of a solar eclipse, the moon comes in between the Earth and the sun, blocking its light from reaching a small part of our planet. Partial eclipses, when some part of the sun remains visible, are the most common, making total eclipses a rare sight to behold.

Total eclipses can lead to a period of darkness lasting for several minutes, during which time nocturnal animals stir while confused birds and insects may fall silent, NASA says.

When a solar eclipse reaches totality, people are able to see the sun’s outer atmosphere called the corona, which is usually obscured by the sun's bright surface. This offers scientists an uncommon opportunity  to study the corona .

Totality also offers spectators a chance to gaze upon the spectacular sight with the naked eye, though  proper  safety  glasses  are still required for the rest of the time.

What states are on the 2024 eclipse path of totality?

Mexico's Pacific coast will be the first location in continental North America to experience totality, which is expected to occur at about 11:07 a.m. PDT,  according to NASA .

As the moon's shadow will northeast, totality in the U.S. will begin in Texas at 1:27 p.m. CDT. The path will then cut diagonally across the country, traveling through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont and New Hampshire.

The eclipse's path is expected to end in Maine at 3:35 p.m. EDT before visiting the maritime provinces of Canada, according to estimates.

An earthquake shook the New York City metropolitan area Friday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey said. At U.N. headquarters, the shaking interrupted the chief executive of Save The Children as she briefed an emergency Security Council session.

NEW YORK (AP) — An unusual East Coast earthquake shook millions of people from New York and Philadelphia skyscrapers to rural New England on Friday, causing no widespread damage but startling an area unaccustomed to temblors.

The U.S. Geological Survey said over 42 million people might have felt the midmorning quake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8, centered near Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, or about 45 miles (72 kilometers) west of New York City and 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of Philadelphia.

People from Baltimore to Boston and beyond felt the ground shake. Nearly 30 people were displaced when officials evacuated three multifamily homes in Newark, New Jersey, to check for damage. Officials around the region were inspecting bridges and other major infrastructure, some flights were diverted or delayed, Amtrak slowed trains throughout the busy Northeast Corridor, and a Philadelphia-area commuter rail line suspended service as a precaution.

Pictures and decorative plates tumbled off the wall in Christiann Thompson’s house near Whitehouse Station, she said, relaying what her husband had told her by phone as she volunteered at a library.

“The dogs lost their minds and got very terrified and ran around,” she said.

Here’s what to know:

• Epicenter in New Jersey: The USGS reported a quake at 10:23 a.m. with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 .
• No damage or injuries: Authorities in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania said so far they had not received reports of life-threatening situations or damage to buildings.
• Residents react: Earthquakes are less common on the East Coast , but they can still pack a punch — and leave people a “little freaked out,” as one New Yorker described.

Whitehouse Station Fire Chief Tim Apgar said no injuries were reported, but responders fielded some calls from people who smelled gas. Nearby, the upper portion of the 264-year-old Col. John Taylor’s Grist Mill historic site collapsed onto a roadway, according to Readington Township Mayor Adam Mueller.

In a 26th-floor midtown Manhattan office, Shawn Clark felt the quake and initially feared an explosion or construction accident. It was “pretty weird and scary,” the attorney said.

Earthquakes are less common on the eastern than western edges of the U.S. because the East Coast does not lie on a boundary of tectonic plates. But 13 earthquakes of magnitude 4.5 or stronger have been recorded since 1950 within 500 km (311 miles) of Friday’s temblor, the USGS said. The strongest was a 5.8-magnitude quake in Mineral, Virginia, on Aug. 23, 2011, that jolted people from Georgia to Canada.

Rocks under the East Coast are better than their western counterparts at spreading earthquake energy across long distances, scientists note.

“If we had the same magnitude quake in California, it probably wouldn’t be felt nearly as far away,” said USGS geophysicist Paul Caruso.

Over a dozen aftershocks were reported in the ensuing hours in the region, including a 4.0-magnitude quake early Friday evening, according to the USGS.

A 4.8-magnitude quake isn’t large enough to cause damage, except for some minor effects near the epicenter, the agency posted on the social platform X. By comparison, the temblor that killed at least 12 people and injured more than 1,000 in Taiwan on Wednesday was variously measured at a magnitude of 7.2 or 7.4.

Still, Friday’s quake caused some disruption.

Flights to the New York, Newark and Baltimore airports were held at their origins for a time while officials inspected runways for cracks. The Seton Hall University men’s basketball team was delayed getting back to New Jersey from Indianapolis for a welcome-home celebration of the team’s National Invitational Tournament win Thursday.

At least five flights en route to Newark were diverted and landed at Lehigh Valley International Airport in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where some passengers rented cars to get home.

Traffic through the Holland Tunnel between Jersey City, New Jersey, and lower Manhattan was stopped for about 10 minutes for inspections, the Port Authority of New York and Jersey said.

In midtown Manhattan, motorists blared their horns on shuddering streets. Some Brooklyn residents heard a boom and felt their building shaking. Cellphone circuits were overloaded for a time as people tried to reach loved ones. Later, phones blared with earthquake-related notifications during the New York Philharmonic’s morning performance, where Anton Webern’s Six Pieces for Orchestra “literally ended with a cellphone alert,” said spokesperson Adam Crane.

At U.N. headquarters in New York, the shaking interrupted Save The Children’s chief executive, Janti Soeripto, as she briefed an emergency Security Council session on conditions in Gaza amid the Israel-Hamas war . In the Bronx, baseball’s Yankees were taking batting practice ahead of their home opener against the Toronto Blue Jays when the quake struck. Manager Aaron Boone later said he “thought it was the sound system booming.”

In New York City’s Astoria neighborhood, Cassondra Kurtz was giving her 14-year-old Chihuahua, Chiki, a cocoa-butter rubdown for her dry skin. Kurtz was recording the moment on video when her apartment started shaking hard enough that a large mirror banged audibly against a wall.

The video captured Kurtz looking around, perplexed. Chiki, however, “was completely unbothered.”

Friday’s quake was felt as far as Maine, where “it felt like the floor was almost doing the wave” in Meghan Hebert’s South Portland apartment. Some Vermont and New Hampshire residents initially figured it was snow falling off their roofs or plow trucks rumbling by. In Hartford, Connecticut, paralegal Stacy Santa Cruz watched her computer screen shake.

Philadelphia high school student Ian Ventura took the quake as a sign of ominous times, coming between the Taiwan temblor and Monday’s total solar eclipse in North America.

Scared for the world’s future, “I might take some risks, text this one girl,” said Ventura, 16. “I got the message typed out. I might send it.”

President Joe Biden said he spoke to New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy about the earthquake. The White House said the administration would provide help if needed.

New York City had no indications of major safety or infrastructure problems from the earthquake, Mayor Eric Adams said. City Buildings Commissioner James Oddo said officials would watch for any delayed cracks or other effects on the Big Apple’s 1.1 million buildings.

Engineers said New York’s skyscrapers are made of high-strength materials and designed to sway slowly to withstand winds and other impacts. Modern high rises also have other features to help absorb any shock.

“High-rise buildings can be one of the safest places you can be in an earthquake,” said Ahmad Rahimian of the engineering firm WSP Global.

Meanwhile, even the delicately placed eggs that form part of a sculpture at a Chinatown art gallery stayed in place during Friday’s quake, to the relief of gallerist Kristen Thomas.

How often total solar eclipses happen — and why Monday's was so rare

On April 8, a rare total solar eclipse  drew a "path of totality" over North America , throwing swaths of the United States, Canada and Mexico into darkness in the middle of the day. 

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun, blocking our view of the sun as it passes. It's called a total solar eclipse when the moon completely blocks the light of the sun. These events are rare, and can only be viewed in specific areas for short periods of time. 

The path of totality for the 2024 total solar eclipse stretched from Texas to the East Coast. Cities including Dallas, Texas; Buffalo, New York; and Burlington, Vermont, were among the areas with the best views.

How often do total solar eclipses happen?

Total solar eclipses are rare, and ones that are visible from the United States are even rarer.

The events occur every one to three years somewhere around the globe, but are often only visible from Earth's poles or from the middle of the ocean. 

A number of factors go into enjoying a total solar eclipse. Viewers need clear skies to ensure the phenomenon isn't blocked by clouds, and only those within the path of totality will see the full effect of the sun being blotted out. Those outside the path of totality can still observe a partial eclipse, when the moon covers some, but not all, of the sun, NASA said .  

When was the last total solar eclipse? 

The last total solar eclipse was in 2021 and was only visible from Antarctica. The period of totality lasted just one minute and 54 seconds, according to NOAA .

The last total solar eclipse visible from North America was in 2017 . Parts of the United States from Oregon to South Carolina were able to witness the rare phenomenon. Before that , the last total solar eclipse visible in the U.S. was in 1979, when just five states were in the path of totality. 

When will the next total solar eclipse be?  

The next total solar eclipse will be on Aug. 12, 2026, according to NOAA . This eclipse will be viewable from the Arctic, eastern Greenland, northern Spain and Iceland. 

Those looking to see a total solar eclipse in the United States will have to wait significantly longer. A total solar eclipse won't occur in the contiguous U.S. until August 2044.

Rescuers are working to free dozens trapped after a 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck the east coast of Taiwan — causing landslides and collapsed structures.

At least nine people have died , more than 900 others are injured and over 100 buildings have been damaged.

The quake is the strongest to hit Taiwan in 25 years .

Here's what else we know:

• The quake:  The earthquake  hit  at 7:58 a.m. local time, 18 kilometers (11 miles) south of the city of Hualien at a depth of 34.8 kilometers, according to the US Geological Survey.
• Aftershocks : The quake was followed by 29 aftershocks greater than a magnitude of 4.0 near the epicenter of the earthquake in east Taiwan so far, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Tremors have been felt across the island, including in Taipei. Tremors as high as magnitude 7 are  expected  in the following days.
• Hualien County:  The region where the quake struck, Hualien County, has a population of about 300,000, around 100,000 of whom live in the main city of Hualien. But many in the region live in remote coastal or mountain communities that  can be hard to reach , so it might take time to understand the extent of Wednesday's quake.
• Trapped miners: Taiwan's national fire agency said that 71 people are trapped in two mines in Hualien.
• Power cuts : More than 91,000 households were without electricity, according to Taiwan's Central Emergency Command Center.
• Medical facilities: Hospitals across Taiwan’s capital , Taipei City, are operating normally despite being damaged by Wednesday’s earthquake, according to the Municipal Government.
• US monitoring: The Biden administration is monitoring the earthquake in Taiwan overnight and is prepared to offer assistance, a National Security Council spokesperson said Wednesday. 

71 miners trapped in 2 mines in Taiwan after earthquake, national fire agency says

Taiwan's national fire agency said that 71 people are trapped in two mines in Hualien after a powerful earthquake struck the island. 

In the Heping mine, there are 64 people trapped, and seven more are trapped in the Zhonghe mine, the fire agency said in a news conference on Wednesday.

Taiwanese semiconductor facilities will resume production overnight following earthquake

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC), the chipmaking giant, said on Wednesday that its facilities which were impacted by the 7.4 magnitude earthquake are expected to resume production overnight. 

TSMC reported that their overall tool recovery is at more than 70% within 10 hours of the earthquake striking the island. Safety systems are also operating normally, TSMC added.

The company noted that a small number of tools were damaged but that there was no damage to its extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) tools. Work at construction sites will resume after further inspections are complete, TSMC said.

Earlier, a TSMC spokesperson told CNN they had evacuated some manufacturing plants. All personnel are now safe, TSMC said in an update.

Biden administration monitoring Taiwan earthquake, White House says

The Biden administration is monitoring the earthquake in Taiwan overnight and is prepared to offer assistance, a National Security Council spokesperson said Wednesday. 

"We are monitoring reports of the earthquake impacting Taiwan and continue to monitor its potential impact on Japan. The United States stands ready to provide any necessary assistance. All those affected are in our prayers," a statement from National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said.

7 major earthquakes have hit Taiwan over the last 50 years

The 7.4 magnitude earthquake that killed at least nine people and injured hundreds Wednesday, is the strongest to hit Taiwan in 25 years .

Over the last 50 years, the island has experienced a total of seven major earthquakes, the last being a 7.1 magnitude quake in 2006 in Pingtung County in southern Taiwan.

The island sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire , which makes it prone to earthquakes.

There have been 29 aftershocks greater than a magnitude of 4.0 near the epicenter of the earthquake in east Taiwan so far, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Of these aftershocks:

• One was above 6.0
• 13 have been at or above 5.0
• 14 have been above 4.0.

Forecast during recovery efforts: Tonight's forecast in Hualien City, near the epicenter, calls for increasing cloud coverage. Thursday is looking at mostly cloudy skies with afternoon showers and rain Thursday night and Friday during the day.

Rainfall totals should be relatively light for Taiwan, with models calling for under 25 mm (less than 1 inch) by Friday evening local time.

A dashcam camera has caught the moment a large landslide came down a mountain in Taiwan, triggered by a 7.4 magnitude earthquake on Wednesday morning.

The quake is the strongest to have rattled the island in 25 years, killing at least nine people and leaving more than 150 trapped.

How the Key Bridge Collapsed in Baltimore: Maps and Photos

On Tuesday, a major bridge in Baltimore collapsed into the water seconds after it was struck by a cargo ship, sending vehicles on the bridge into the river below. The ship lost power and issued a mayday call shortly before it hit the bridge.

The ship, a 948-foot-long cargo vessel called Dali, was about a half hour into its journey toward Colombo, Sri Lanka, when it hit a main pillar of the bridge. All crew members are safe, according to the ship’s owners.

A mayday call from the ship gave officials enough time to stop traffic at both ends of the bridge. The waters where the bridge collapsed are about 50 feet deep. By Tuesday morning, six construction workers who had been fixing potholes on the bridge remained missing as divers and other emergency workers on boats and helicopters continued to search for them. Two others had been rescued, and one was in the hospital.

The Francis Scott Key Bridge was opened in 1977 and carried more than 12.4 million vehicles last year. The bridge was one of the three major ways to cross the Patapsco River and formed part of Baltimore’s beltway.

The Port of Baltimore is a major trade hub that handled a record amount of foreign cargo last year. It is an especially important destination — the nation’s largest by volume last year — for deliveries of cars and light trucks.

Overall, Baltimore was the 17th biggest port in the United States in 2021, ranked by total tons, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. The bridge collapse brought marine traffic there to a standstill, with seven cargo or tanker ships stranded in the harbor as of Tuesday afternoon.

Gov. Wes Moore declared a state of emergency for Maryland and said that his office was in close communication with Pete Buttigieg, the U.S. transportation secretary. The White House issued a statement saying that President Biden had been briefed on the collapse.
