Visitation Scheduling

Configurable Visitation Scheduling Solution

A Safe, Secure, and Fully Automated Visitation Management Solution

The GTL visitation management solution, VisitMe Scheduler, is proven to be the most robust and configurable in the corrections market. As an integrated GTL product, the VisitMe Scheduler solution will aid in streamlining a facility’s daily operations. For example, VisitMe Scheduler can eliminate long queues in the visitation area by avoiding the chaos of having a high volume of concurrent visitors at the facility. In so doing, the system also minimizes staffing requirements.

The visitation management system also enables facilities to create a more efficient visiting process that allows them to expand their visitation schedules. This further enhances a facility’s ability to help maintain that very important service of regular communication between inmates and their friends and families. The key feature and power of the visitation management solution is the VisitMe Scheduler software, which essentially automates the entire visitation process – this truly separates the software from all other video visiting systems. Facilities will have the luxury of configuring station availability for the public or inmates, inmate quotas, and daily and weekly schedules.

The system will utilize the configurations to create a very efficient, safe and automated visitation process. The system provides a public web site to allow the public to schedule their visits to an inmate. The system then performs all automated conflict checks on the visits and connects the proper stations for the scheduled visits.

The National Leader in Active Deployments

Currently managing over 100 correctional facilities visitation programs, the VisitMe Scheduler software solution maintains the majority share of successful program implementations. In addition, this software application’s current installed base spans a range of facility sizes both large and small.

Revenue Generation Opportunities

Providing the opportunity for additional and extended visitation sessions, a facility can securely expand a service that has been proven to reduce recidivism. Utilizing the configurability of the revenue and billing application, GTL VisitMe Scheduler will allow a facility to create its own unique revenue options such as custom rate tables, varying charges for particular days and times, and refund policies.

Fully Configurable Implementation

GTL can efficiently integrate our VisitMe Scheduler with any facility’s current visitation protocol. Regardless of the specific intricacies designed to coordinate the current visitation service, VisitMe Scheduler’s configurability will adhere to all mandatory requirements while creating additional efficiencies throughout the remainder of the program.

Three Types of Video Visits

' title=

At Facility

These visits are when you go to your facility and sit at a video visit station in the lobby. Your loved one or friend will be on a video visit station in their pod.

' title=

From Computer

At select facilities families and friends can have video visits from their own personal computers in the comfort of their own homes. You will need the following equipment to do a video visit from home:

  • A computer.
  • A webcam and a microphone, or a computer with these components built in (most laptops have these built in).
  • An internet browser. Internet browsers Safari 4 and higher, or Firefox 7 and higher, are strongly recommended. Using other browsers may not load the page appropriately in order to begin your visit. We are not responsible for technical problems or issues that may arise from using an unsupported browser.
  • For the best visit experience you should use headphones, but they are not required.
  • High speed internet (DSL or Cable) connection (dial up and satellite are not supported).

From Android Device

Video visits go mobile with our Visit Now Android app. At select facilities families and friends can have video visits from their own Android devices.

How to Schedule a Visit

Free video visit policy.

Free visits are a benefit for the inmate and are credited to the  inmate’s account. Therefore the inmate is the only one who  can book a free visit . This allows the inmate at your facility full control of whom they want to use their free visit with. There are also advanced scheduling rules that control the timeframe that a free visit can be booked. These rules vary by facility. If an inmate books a visit outside this timeframe, they will not be allowed to use a free visit.

  • Book the visit with their Friends & Family.
  • Suggest a visit with their Friends & Family. The Friends & Family must have no prepaid funds on their account at the time they confirm the suggested time. The inmate’s free visit will then be deducted.
  • Confirm a suggested visit from their friends and family. The Friends & Family must have no prepaid funds on their account at the time the inmate confirms the visit. The inmate’s free visit will then be deducted from their free visit allowance.

The only way Friends & Family can use a free visit is by suggesting a visit with the inmate. If the inmate has a free visit available and there are no prepaid funds on the Friends & Family account at the time the inmate confirms, the free visit will be deducted from inmate’s account.

The purpose of verification is to ensure inmates are not connecting with inappropriate people on the outside. The verification process is simple and can be completed before or after creating an account.

To be verified, you can make a deposit , schedule a visit or download and complete the Telmate Verified form .

'Devil Comet' 12P/Pons-Brooks reaches peak brightness tonight. Here's how to see it

It might even be visible to the unaided eye during peak brightness.

a bright dot leaves a hazy trail behind it as it flies in front of background stars

The "Devil Comet" will reach peak brightness this weekend as it passes near the sun.

The comet , also known as 12P/Pons-Brooks , visits the inner solar system every 71 years and will reach perihelion — the point in its elliptical orbit when it's closest to the sun — on Sunday (April 21), appearing bright enough to possibly be seen by the naked eye.

This rarely-seen comet has exhibited occasional outbursts during its journey, creating a horned-like appearance that has earned the comet various nicknames including " Devil Comet " and "Millennium Falcon." These outbursts are fueled by dust, rock and ices that are heated by the sun and turned into gas, which has formed the glowing horned-shaped halo around the comet, also known as a coma.

Related: Here's how to see 'horned' comet 12P/Pons-Brooks at its brightest this week (video)

A Celestron telescope on a white background

Want to look at comets like 12P/Pons-Brooks in the night sky? We recommend the  Celestron Astro Fi 102  as the top pick in our  best beginner's telescope guide .

The 10.5-mile-wide (17 kilometers) comet is on a trajectory that will bring it about 72.6 million miles (116.8 million km) from the sun during its closest approach. This means Comet 12P will be most visible from Earth a few nights before and after reaching perihelion, when it's at its brightest and viewers might have the chance to see it without any equipment. Here's how:

Viewers in the mid- to southern latitudes of North America can look toward the Taurus constellation immediately after sunset to spot the comet. It will be just below the constellation, with the prominent 'V' shape of Taurus pointing down towards it. The comet will appear just to the left of Jupiter , which will appear as a bright pale yellow orb.

Look for a circular, wispy patch of light with possibly a faint tail that stretches up and to the left of the bright central area, or coma, that surrounds the comet's nucleus.

a bright white streak against a background of stars

There is a chance that it might be visible to the unaided eye in dark areas with clear skies, but a small telescope or binoculars will certainly allow you to spot Comet 12P if conditions are right in your area.

Unfortunately, observers in northern latitudes may struggle to see the comet because it will be positioned in the glow of sunset.

a series of 16 images showing a fuzzy tail growing in size behind a bright white dot among background stars

If the comet has one of its outbursts during its close approach of the sun, it would experience a period of brightening that could make it easier to observe without a telescope or binoculars.

Shortly after this weekend's perihelion, Comet 12P will make its closest approach to Earth on June 2, but by that time, it will only be visible in the Southern Hemisphere.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Weeks after announcing layoffs and closings throughout the state, Family Dollar has finally give Ohio a list of which stores it is closing a day before they are scheduled to shutter Saturday.

The list comes in the form of an updated layoff notice . Family Dollar has sent the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services a WARN notice in late March saying 265 employees could be laid off because the company “intends to close multiple stores located in Ohio.”

On Friday that notice was updated to include a list of 35 stores.

Dollar Tree announced a few weeks ago that it would close about 1,000 stores over the next several years, including 600 Family Dollar stores in the first half of 2024. This represents about 12% of the company’s 8,000 Family Dollar stores.

Companies are required to send what’s called a WARN notice to state governments when they close a manufacturing plant, store or another facility. These notices generally include where the facility.

Dollar Tree had never responded to cleveland.com’s questions about the closing stores.

ScrapeHero, a website that shares data on store locations, says Family Dollar had about 460 stores in Ohio as of Friday morning, unchanged from last month.

In the Cleveland area, seven stores are closing, according to the list:

  • 19 North Arlington in Akron

Walmart Rolls Out Major Changes For In-Person Customers. See What Stores Are Impacted

Walmart Self Checkout

T wo more Walmart stores—one in St. Louis, Missouri, and one in Cleveland, Ohio—are getting rid of their self-checkout machines, according to a statement shared with Business Insider . The self-checkout machines will reportedly be removed after hours and the process will be completed within two weeks.

"We believe the change will improve the in-store shopping experience and give our associates the chance to provide more personalized and efficient service," Walmart spokesperson Brian Little told Insider.

TIME has reached out to Walmart for comment and further information.

The news comes after Walmart made a similar change to three New Mexico stores last year, removing all self-checkout machines. Other stores, including Target, Dollar General, and FiveBelow have also said that they are scaling back their reliance on self-checkout services in recent months. Dollar General announced that it would remove the self-checkout option from 300 stores while FiveBelow is opting for a hybrid checkout whereby staff manually scan the items for customers at the self-checkout machines. Target is implementing a new rule that only allows you to use self-checkout if you are purchasing 10 items or less.

Self-checkout on average appears to have a significantly higher rate of theft, with one study by a shopping startup called Grabango suggesting that shoppers are 21 times more likely to sneak a stolen item past a machine than from a human checkout.

It’s especially common for shoppers to purchase some items while shoplifting other items during self-checkout, causing retailers to have large amounts of inventory that is unaccounted for, referred to as “shrink.” Some shrink may even be unintentional. Approximately one in five shoppers say they accidentally took an item from self-checkout without paying for it, according to a survey from LendingTree .
