All that I have done

Challenging but fun; frustrating at times but very satisfying to complete each oneI I really enjoy this game. Sometimes the challenge gets to me, but I’ve discovered that if I keep trying, I can figure things out I am hooked. As a graduate of The University of Texas in Austin (the real UT) with an English major, I love words so playing this game gives me an opportunity to learn new ones, practice old ones, and just spend time using what few brain cells I have left. Love playing this more and more. It’s getting harder, but even though I get frustrated, I enjoy the challenges. 5/8/23. I can’t give it up. And I go from gold to bronze back to silver so I’m not the sharpest player, but the more I play the better I get. When I haven’t had time to play, I bottom out. Love this game. some weird words Enticing. Sometimes there are words that seem to have come out of nowhere and have no meaning. But I love to play I have learned some words that are so new they are not on the internet’s dictionary!YES! Addicted to playing this!

Great game but....

This is a truly fun game and I just noticed the dictionary which adds to the fun. There have been a few words that I thought were names and I wished I had found the dictionary sooner. I love getting credit for bonus words which make me work harder to find the “right” that they want you to find. However, only rated it four stars because the ads are overly frequent and obnoxiously long! I would buy the game but it’s ridiculously expensive. I will just put up with them until I tire of the game. But I will admit there hasn’t been a game that captured my interest like this one for quite some time. It is very addictive but again $50 a year is ludicrous for a game. I can put up with the ads for that price. Addendum: I’ve been playing this game since February now and got my husband on to it as well. He’s a bigger game but than I am. However, I’ve now had an ad lock up my game totally 2-3 times now which is very annoying and bothersome. I’ve been troubled the number of ads at times but aside from that they didn’t bother me. Until they lock up the game! This most recent one is the McLaren of Palm Beach ad. It’s a video that doesn’t play and I now can’t make it go away either!! So no more game! It’s infuriating to say the least. I’ve enjoyed the game but could make better use of my time if it’s going to keep locking up. What can I do?

Too frustrating

As an older adult I often look for new word games to keep the brain going, and the ad for this one seemed to have a different twist. i downloaded it, and just as with many apps before, the ad for the game is misleading because it does not play as advertised. I decided to try it anyway. Initially the game was okay, but then the ads began. Do not get me wrong...I get the ads and why they are used. You need money and it keeps the game free. We all have heard this before. But for a game that only costs a buck to clear the ads, you certainly use a lot of ads to cover that dollar. As a rule I do not pay for games unless I find it to be a classic, well designed, true to the game app. Once it is full of prizes and gimmicks, I am rarely interested. This game lost me with its ads interrupting me every other level and the prizes that constantly showed up. The ads often would not go away; just lead to yet another screen to watch and try to close. Sometimes I could not close out. I had to respond to screen to make it clear. This is not going to happen. The app is not as it was advertised, it has way too many ads to cover its cost, and it has too many gimmicks, prizes, and fluff. I just want a simple, challenging word game that plays as advertised. I can take the ads as long as they are incorporated responsibly. This one did not....so it has been deleted.

Putin announces plans to visit China in May

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday he plans to visit China in May, in what could become the first foreign trip for the Russian leader after he extended his rule by six more years in an election that offered voters little real choice.

Putin announced the plans for the visit at a congress of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs in Moscow. He didn’t say when exactly it would take place and didn’t offer any other details.

Putin’s inauguration is scheduled for May 7, Russian lawmakers said earlier this week. Last month, the 71-year-old Russian leader secured his fifth term in office in a vote with no real opposition, extending his 24-year rule.

Russia’s growing economic and diplomatic isolation because of its war against Ukraine has made it increasingly reliant on China, its former rival for leadership of the Communist bloc during the Cold War.

According to a recent U.S. assessment , China has surged sales to Russia of machine tools, microelectronics and other technology that Moscow in turn is using to produce missiles, tanks, aircraft and other weaponry for use in the conflict.

China has repeatedly said it isn’t providing Russia with arms or military assistance, although it has maintained robust economic connections with Moscow.

Beijing has not provided direct lethal military support for Russia and has sought to project itself as neutral in the Ukraine conflict. It has refused to condemn Moscow’s actions and declared in 2022 that it had a “no-limits” friendship with Russia. The country has denounced Western sanctions against Moscow, and accused NATO and the United States of provoking Putin’s invasion.

China has also proposed a peace plan that was largely dismissed by Ukraine’s allies, who insisted that Moscow must withdraw its forces from the neighboring country as a condition for peace.

Five Moments That Have Defined Donald Trump’s Trial So Far

Trials are wars of words. These are some of the most memorable that have been spoken as a jury hears the criminal case against Donald J. Trump.

  • Share full article

Donald Trump sits at the defense table with his hands crossed.

By Wesley Parnell

The initial six days of Donald J. Trump’s criminal trial , the first for an American president, were a high-intensity spectacle.

A jury was seated, opening statements made and the first witness began testifying.

Mr. Trump, who faces up to four years behind bars if convicted, is charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records for the way in which he accounted for a repayment to his former personal lawyer, Michael D. Cohen.

Mr. Cohen had channeled money to a porn star who was shopping her story of a sexual encounter with Mr. Trump. Prosecutors say the payment was meant to cover up a scandal that could have derailed Mr. Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.

All trials have set structures and formal, legal rhythms. There are meticulous exchanges and minute observations of procedure. But already, this one has also had plenty of high-stakes moments befitting the unprecedented nature of the case that is being tried.

Here are five of the most memorable things that have been said in court so far:

“We have our jury.”

The judge, Juan M. Merchan, at 4:34 p.m. on Thursday signaled that the trial would soon begin in earnest.

The process of choosing a jury was intense and arduous. Many prospective jurors excused themselves before they could even be asked a standardized set of 42 questions , citing an inability to be unbiased toward such a polarizing defendant.

Some who were initially chosen as jurors later expressed fears about being harassed, and one was excused.

“The defendant, Donald Trump, orchestrated a criminal scheme to corrupt the 2016 presidential election.”

Matthew Colangelo , a prosecutor, in his opening statement Monday pressed the idea that the case was not truly about seamy personal matters, nor New York’s laws governing business records. It was instead, he said, about a fraud practiced on the American people.

It is one of several ways the Manhattan district attorney’s office has sought to elevate the case it is prosecuting, arguing that it concerned far more than technical violations of the law.

“There is nothing wrong with trying to influence an election. It’s called democracy.”

Todd Blanche , one of Mr. Trump’s defense lawyers, used his opening statement to take direct aim at the prosecution’s overarching argument — and implicitly conceded that the payment was in fact designed to keep the porn star, Stormy Daniels, from telling her story before the election.

Mr. Blanche homed in on two themes: He argued that what Mr. Trump did was not illegal, and that Mr. Cohen, Mr. Trump’s former fixer — and an expected key witness for the prosecution — was untrustworthy, in part because of his criminal history.

“I would run or publish positive stories about Mr. Trump, and I would publish negative stories about his opponents.”

There is a reason that the prosecution called David Pecker , the former publisher of The National Enquirer , as its first witness.

The tabloid executive showed how hush-money payments like the one at the center of the trial came to fruition . And on Monday and Tuesday, he laid out key background information about the conspiracy that prosecutors say was arranged between the publication and the Trump campaign.

Mr. Pecker described how he served as Mr. Trump’s “eyes and ears,” and worked to quash publicity threats to the campaign by purchasing the rights to negative stories and refusing to publish them.

“You’re losing all credibility with the court.”

Justice Merchan’s harsh words to Mr. Blanche came as he responded to prosecutors’ accusation that Mr. Trump had willfully violated the gag order imposed on him, which bars him from attacking jurors and witnesses, among others.

In a heated argument, and one that was at times hard to follow, Mr. Blanche tried to suggest that Mr. Trump’s amplification of other people’s social media posts did not count as violations of the order, that he was merely responding to political attacks, and that he was seeking to comply with the law.

That last assertion — that Mr. Trump was attempting to obey — prompted the utterance from the judge that no lawyer wants to hear.

Our Coverage of the Trump Hush-Money Trial

News and Analysis

Prosecutors accused Donald Trump of violating a gag order four additional times , saying that he continues to defy the judge’s directions  not to attack witnesses , prosecutors and jurors in his hush-money trial.

Trump’s criminal trial in Manhattan is off to an ominous start for the former president, and it might not get any easier  in the days ahead. Here’s why.

The National Enquirer  was more than a friendly media outlet  for Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016. It was a powerful, national political weapon that was thrust into the service of a single candidate , in violation of campaign finance law.

For Donald Trump, COVID has become a four-letter word

Then-President Donald Trump wore a mask while visiting the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., on July 11, 2020, one of the few times he was seen masked in public during the pandemic.

SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. — When it comes to Donald Trump fandom, it’s hard to top 64-year-old Edward X. Young.

It’s hard to miss him, too, at one of the 74 Trump rallies he proudly boasts he’s attended. Awaiting the start of his latest one here on April 13, Young wore a bright green Make America Great Again hat, a Trump T-shirt, a denim jacket festooned with more than a dozen Trump buttons, and a grin framed by his gray mustache and beard.

In Young’s view, the former president can do no wrong. Except when it comes to COVID.

“I think Trump’s biggest mistake — I hate to have him know that I say he made a mistake — was trusting [Dr. Anthony] Fauci,” Young said of the former federal infectious disease expert who’s been vilified by conservatives for promoting COVID shutdowns and vaccines.

But Young said Trump isn’t compounding that mistake by making another one — talking about COVID.

“I don’t think he wants to talk about it,” Young said. “It’s just too controversial.”

The deadly pandemic encompassed a little more than a fifth of Trump’s presidency, but you’d never know it from listening to him on the 2024 campaign trail. He rarely mentions COVID. When he does, it’s usually a brief comment that the pandemic derailed some of his presidential plans like an untimely speed bump. Then he’ll complain he doesn’t get enough credit for doing a great job on COVID — an assessment that most public health experts strongly dispute.

Edward X. Young, 64, of Point Pleasant, N.J., and Bode Brewer, 17 of Reading, Pa., posed for a photo as they awaited the start of a rally by former president Donald Trump in Schnecksville, Pa.,, on April 13.

Trump publicly downplayed the threat from the virus in early 2020, a move he told author Bob Woodward was intentional to avoid creating a panic . As the pandemic took hold, Trump declared a national emergency and called for a voluntary national shutdown but soon was pushing for America to return to normal as the death toll continued to skyrocket .

He offered bizarre and dangerous ideas for avoiding the virus, including suggesting people inject bleach into their lungs. He shunned mask-wearing and social distancing, then survived arguably the world’s most high-profile case of COVID, before losing the 2020 election as public opinion polls showed voters trusted Joe Biden much more to handle the pandemic .

The one aspect of his pandemic response that Trump legitimately could trumpet — and gets bipartisan credit for — was Operation Warp Speed, the government program that accelerated development of COVID vaccines. But Trump has largely refrained from touting the vaccines since 2021, when he was booed at an Alabama rally and an appearance in Dallas after saying he had received a COVID jab.

“I really don’t want to talk about it because, as a Republican, it’s not a great thing to talk about, because for some reason it’s just not,” Trump told Fox News in June 2023 . In recent months, Trump has frequently vowed at his rallies that he would deny federal funds to “any school that has a vaccine mandate or a mask mandate” — a line that draws big cheers.

“His problem is he is personally proud of the development of the vaccines, but his core audience not only has moved on but is very negative about the experience,” said Robert J. Blendon, an emeritus professor of health policy and political analysis at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health who has studied the public response to the pandemic.

Polls show Republicans trust the vaccine much less than Democrats and were more strongly opposed to the shutdowns and mask requirements. Even some of Trump’s high-profile supporters are critical of his handling of COVID and say it makes sense that he’s avoiding the subject.

“All I know is when he talks about vaccines at his rallies he gets booed,” said Senator Ron Johnson, a Wisconsin Republican and ardent COVID vaccine opponent. “That ought to tell him something.”

A Trump campaign spokesperson did not respond to email requests for comment. A Republican National Committee spokesperson did not directly address Trump’s handling of the pandemic but said in a statement that “four years after COVID, many Americans are still struggling” economically under President Biden, in contrast to Trump’s “record of success” as president.

Biden rarely talks about his COVID response either as polls show it ranks very low on voter concerns. But when it comes to his predecessor’s handling of the pandemic, he’s recently gone all-in.

Trump opened that door on March 18 when he asked on social media if Americans were better off than they were four years ago — precisely when COVID began rampaging through America. Biden’s campaign seized on the comment, creating an online ad criticizing Trump’s COVID leadership and posting almost daily flashbacks on social media to events exactly four years earlier.

“Four years ago today, Trump complained that inquiries into COVID test shortages were ‘a partisan witch hunt’ against him,” Biden’s campaign posted on X on Thursday.

Four years ago today, Trump complained that inquiries into COVID test shortages were “a partisan witch hunt” against him pic.twitter.com/7QJp4A5lpk — Biden-Harris HQ (@BidenHQ) April 18, 2024

And Biden himself has ridiculed Trump’s COVID response frequently in public remarks since then.

“When the pandemic hit, Trump failed the most basic duty any president owes the American people: a duty to care and a duty to respond,” Biden said at a Scranton, Pa., fund-raiser Tuesday. “Remember when he told us, ‘Don’t worry; this will all be over by Easter?’ Remember when he told us, literally, inject bleach?”

Americans are eager to forget about COVID, so it’s unlikely to be a major issue in the campaign, said Republican strategist Doug Heye. In his campaign for president, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis tried attacking Trump for listening to Fauci’s advice and got no traction in the Republican primaries. But the pandemic still resonates with a lot of Republicans and could be a problem for Trump because of independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s antivaccination stand, Heye said.

“That’s a potential weakness, especially as we all try and figure out whom does Robert F. Kennedy [Jr.] hurt more? Well, on that issue, potentially it’s Trump,” Heye said. “That may be 2 percent [of voters], but 2 percent could be impactful.”

Although Trump isn’t talking much about COVID, many in his party are — and the federal government’s response still angers them, said Senator Rand Paul, a Kentucky Republican.

“I would say it’s a focus of conversation daily as we travel around. People are insistent that we never do the lockdowns again,” said Paul, an ophthalmologist who declared he wouldn’t give his children the COVID vaccine . “DeSantis tried to make it an issue in the primary and wasn’t successful doing that. ... I think maybe people in the primary chose to vote for former president Trump for maybe a different reason than just the COVID. They might have actually agreed with DeSantis on it.”

Former president Donald Trump left after speaking at a rally in Schnecksville, Pa., on April 13.

At Trump’s April 13 rally, in front of several thousand people in a grassy field just north of Allentown, he didn’t even offer his usual brief mention of COVID during a roughly 65-minute speech. He simply repeated his vow of denying funding for schools with a vaccine or mask mandate, which drew its typical roar of approval from the crowd.

“He doesn’t want to talk about the vaccine. The vaccine was [expletive],” said Laura Hartshorne, 62, a real estate agent from Northampton, Pa., who attended the rally. “He was bamboozled. They told him it was safe and everything ... and he’s really not one to admit that they told him it was OK and it wasn’t.”

Bode Brewer of Reading, Pa., is only 17 years old. But after his July birthday he’ll be eligible to vote in November and is eager to cast his first ballot for Trump, who he thinks deserves credit for handling COVID.

“I think Trump’s biggest accomplishment ... and some conservatives are very split on this, is the whole vaccine thing [Operation] Warp Speed,” Brewer said at the rally. “Look, even the far left will admit that was very successful.”

He did not get vaccinated, but several older family members who were at high risk for COVID received the shot.

“We’re not against the vaccine,” said Brewer, who volunteered for Trump’s 2020 campaign and has been to 29 rallies. “We just want personal choice.”

Young, the New Jersey man who has attended 74 Trump rallies, didn’t get vaccinated either and recalls “screaming fights” with his family members about it. So he understands why Trump has effectively removed COVID from his vocabulary.

Young, who works for a debt relief company and does acting on the side, concluded, “It’s almost impossible to talk about it.”

Correction: A previous version of this story had an incorrect second reference to Bode Brewer.
