It's a shame that this firm advertises trips and getaways only to cancel them just before the scheduled activity. This is happening with far too much regularity. The owner was rude and condescending when asked just why the offers were withdrawn. We won't be sucked in ever again and I urge you to steer clear of this "Bait and Switch" firm

Share review Embed review Write an update Edit review 7/10/2020 I am deeply disappointed with ACT Tour company. My sister and I lost a total of $8,000 when in April we canceled our hotel stay in NYC with the company. The cancellation was based on advice from the World Health Organization and our doctors, as we are in a high risk category for COVID-19. ACT gave us nothing back, stating it was against their policy to refund us because a cancellation was requested. However, ACT was reimbursed for all costs on their end, as all Broadway shows and hotel accommodations were cancelled due to the pandemic. At the time of the hotel cancellation, we asked that our Broadway tickets be given to family members local to the area, and it was agreed upon. However, once the shows were officially cancelled, ACT refused to refund the cost of the tickets (while they pocked it for themselves as they were refunded by the venues.) At one point ACT indicated that they would hold our sum of money for a trip in 2021 (we are in our 80's with failing health issues), but later refused even that. While the rest of the world understood the dangers of traveling on an airplane in and being in a crowded theatre during the most dangerous pandemic of our lifetime, ACT clung on to the hopes of still going regardless of health risks to their customers. Additionally, ACT allowed another individual to cancel my trip without my consent. They did not contact me to confirm the cancellation, they only cancelled it based on someone else's word. I can't fathom the level of unprofessionalism expressed by this company, and this is just the icing on the cake. Beware of booking ANYTHING with ACT!

Act is the best goes above and beyond love the whole office. Once a month everyone meets and it is always fun and informative!!!

Palm Springs ACT Tours does a fantastic job. Every aspect is looked after and the experience is effortless for the guest. The memories of our Fiji trip are treasured. We highly recommend this very personalized group travel service!!

Adult Customized Tours aka A.C.T is not an honest company to deal with. We booked an international cruise/air with ACT which was canceled due to Covid. I was told by the owner (Steve) on 4/23/20 I would get my Airfare refunded in 7-14 days on 5/14/20 few more weeks 6/11/20 2-3 weeks. Since I couldn't get an honest answer I called United Spoke to supervisor Patrick who informed me our reservation was refunded in full on 5/11/20. Knowing this I emailed ACT/Owner he replies to my email that I'm desperate or low on funds and I can go to arbitration for my money. I never threatened or mentioned suing. I was frustrated and tired of his dishonesty is what I said in my email. I find it a disgusting thing to say as an owner and not to mention the pandemic. I finally got a check for our airfare refund on 6/28/20. The cruise portion is a whole neither story. If you choose to use this company I highly recommended All communication is in email as ACT/owner will twist his stories.

I went to Ecuador and the Galopagos Islands with this company in 2012. It was amazing! ! Every detail is planned out for you and you get the choice of adding additional day tours or relaxing that day. Every hotel we stayed at was 4 and 5 star. Such a great way to see different parts of the world that you might have been hesitant on going to alone. Tina was our tour guide and she was the best! I recommend that you request her!!! She attended to everyone's individual needs and just made the trip so much fun. This trip was all ages which was also great. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone looking to travel with a tour group.

Traveling with a cat can be rewarding, but it requires thorough planning. Whether you’re getting ready to drive a short distance and hang out with family or fly somewhere for a relaxing vacation, there are a few factors to consider when traveling with your cat.

Make sure to start the planning process early, particularly if you’re traveling internationally or are going to stay in a hotel during any part of your journey. Below, you’ll find 14 tips and tricks to make your journey with your cat successful.

  • The 14 Tips to Travel with a Cat
  • 1. Invest in a Good Carrier

Cats should always be restrained when riding in cars, and airports require them to stay in their carriers at all times (except during the security screening process). Airlines have several rules and regulations regarding traveling with pets, including guidelines regarding the size of carriers.

Make sure the carrier you use meets the airline’s regulations and requirements. If you’re driving, the sky’s the limit when it comes to the size of your cat’s mobile palace. Carriers should be sturdy, well-ventilated, secure, and easy to clean. Plastic carriers are usually the best options.

  • 2. Give Your Cat Time to Get Used to Their Carrier

Because cats spend so much time in their carriers when traveling, they must feel comfortable in them. Consider leaving your cat’s carrier out so they can get used to it before your trip.

Letting your cat have dinner in their carrier a few times may encourage them to develop positive associations with their traveling home.

  • 3. Invest in a Good Harness and Leash

If you visit a rest stop during a road trip, your cat should be harnessed and leashed when they’re away from their carrier to ensure they can’t run off and get lost if they become scared.

Make sure the harness you choose fits properly, and give your cat time to get used to wearing it so they’re ready to do so when you hit the road.

Are you looking for the perfect cat harness? We suggest Hepper's Cat Harness & Leash Set , which includes a nicely designed, machine-washable harness made from soft, sturdy velvet and mesh.

This harness is easy to put on and take off and features reinforced stitching, reflective stripes, and quick-release buckles. This set also includes a great leash made from durable nylon climbing rope.

At Catster, we’ve admired Hepper for many years and decided to take a controlling ownership interest so that we could benefit from the outstanding designs of this cool cat company!

  • 4. Practice Everything

No matter how you’re traveling, your cat must be comfortable entering and exiting the carrier. If you’re flying, you’ll need to take them out of their carrier during the security screening process in the airport.

You can practice taking your cat out of the carrier when you’re around other people to make them more comfortable during the security check. If you plan on driving, consider taking your cat for a few practice rides to get them used to spending time in the car. Make sure to reward them for their cooperation!

  • 5. Ask Your Veterinarian for Advice

Some easily stressed cats may benefit from medication to help them stay mellow while traveling. However, sedation isn’t suitable for all cats, and most airlines won’t transport pets who have been tranquilized or sedated.

  • 6. Have Cleaning Supplies on Hand

Pack a bag with cleaning supplies and plan to have it close at hand while you’re underway in case your cat has an accident and you need to do a bit of on-the-fly cleaning. It’s best to pack paper towels or cleaning wipes, gloves, and baggies for disposal.

It's hard to beat the convenience of pet-safe wipes after a big adventure, between baths, or when cleaning sensitive areas. Our favorite option is Hepper's Wash Wipes, premium wipes designed to safely and gently remove grime from cats and dogs of all ages and sizes. These hypoallergenic wipes are made in the USA and feature moisturizing ingredients to soothe your pet's skin.

  • 7. Pack Toys and Blankets

Take a few of your cat’s favorite toys and a well-loved blanket that smells like home to keep them comfortable while away from their territory. Putting a favorite blanket in your cat’s carrier may make being on the road less stressful.

A stuffed toy might look a little different than a traditional cat toy but many felines find them quite enticing. The Hepper Plush Whale serves a dual purpose, featuring a faux fur exterior that mimics prey and a soft interior for cuddling during long cat naps when playtime is over. The best part about it is it's an affordable option for ages, sizes, and conditions. Learn more about why your cat needs a plush here!

  • 8. Consider Portable Litter Boxes

If you’re traveling by car , pack a litter box with some of your cat’s regular litter. Plastic poop bags and a scoop are also essential. If you’re staying at a hotel, check their pet policies thoroughly.

Most hotels that accept cats don’t provide litter boxes and litter. Collapsible litter boxes are ideal for shorter trips and can be folded down and packed.

  • 9. Pack Food, Water, Treats, and Medication

If you’re traveling by car, bring enough of your cat’s regular food to keep them happy while you’re away from home. It’s also helpful (and usually mandatory) to pack food and water for your cat while flying, but some cats may be too nervous to eat until you land.

If your cat takes medication, pack enough to last them for your entire trip, and consider putting it in your carry-on luggage to ensure you have access to it even if your checked luggage takes a detour.

  • 10. Consider Pheromones

Commercial synthetic feline pheromone products may help some cats stay calm while underway by reducing stress and creating a sense of safety and well-being. They’re available in sprays and wipes, so your cat can enjoy the benefits of calming pheromones while you’re on the road.

  • 11. Check Your Cat’s Microchip Registration

Ensure that the registry where your cat’s microchip is registered has the right contact information. Losing your cat when you’re out of town is a nightmare, but an up-to-date microchip can significantly improve the chances of their return.

a.c.t. travel

  • 12. Collect Your Cat’s Medical Information

It’s vital to collect your cat’s medical information before you plan to leave and make sure you have a way to access it while you’re on the road in case they require veterinary care while you’re away from home.

Ensure you have all the documentation and certificates your cat needs to travel, including their vaccination status. Remember that the requirements vary based on where you’re headed and how you plan to travel.

  • 13. Double Check Your Reservations

If you plan on staying in a hotel at your destination, contact the property ahead of time to ensure pets are permitted and get information about the rules and requirements that may apply. Don’t forget to inquire about the availability of litter boxes and food and water bowls.

  • 14. Invest in Physical ID Tags

It’s best to attach an ID tag with your name and contact information to your cat’s collar. It will make it easy for people to reach out to you if your cat gets loose and makes a run for it.

Microchips are helpful , but lost cats need to be taken to shelters or veterinarians with scanners for their chips to be read. ID tags make the reunification process far more efficient; if your cat runs off, anyone who finds them can simply give you a call.

divider-catclaw1

Traveling with cats can be stress-free with a bit of planning and preparation. Make sure to get started before you hit the road with your cat , particularly if you’re thinking about flying or staying in a hotel. Also, don’t forget to invest in an appropriate carrier and give your cat lots of time to get used to it.

Episode Notes

Atlanta recently reached a three-year, $1 million deal with the Michelin Guide . Discover Atlanta CEO William Pate discussed that topic and more in an interview with Global Tourism Reporter Dawit Habtemariam.

Pate said having Atlanta’s restaurants appear in the Michelin Guide has boosted the city’s culinary scene. He noted restaurants that have already been selected for the guide have seen a 30% increase in business. Atlanta is the seventh U.S. city to be selected for the Michelin Guide.

Pate also touched on Atlanta’s preparations for the 2026 World Cup, during which the city will host eight matches. He said Atlanta could be a home base for World Cup fans since its airport has nonstop flights to every other host city.

Next, while the airline industry is seeing a surge in travel demand, JetBlue Airways is struggling . The carrier posted a first-quarter loss, writes Airlines Reporter Meghna Maharishi.

JetBlue reported a $716 million loss, which Maharishi notes was partly caused by the large fees the company had to pay to end its planned merger with Spirit Airlines. JetBlue’s Chief Financial Officer said the break-up fees cost the carrier $530 million.

In addition, CEO Joanna Geraghty said the increase in capacity to popular destinations like Mexico and Caribbean has put pressure on the company’s revenues.

Finally, Travel Technology Reporter Justin Dawes examines how Amadeus employees have been using Microsoft’s artificial intelligence-powered chatbot Copilot .

Amadeus is among a group of companies testing Copilot as part of Microsoft’s Early Adopter Program. Microsoft said last September that it would incorporate Copilot into its products. Dawes lists several ways Amadeus staff has used Copilot, such as summarizing long discussions between coworkers and conducting searches of Amadeus’ own data.

Frederick Ros, Amadeus’ head of digital workspace services, said staff at the travel technology company had spoken very highly of Copilot.

Airlines Must Now Pay You Back for Delays and Cancellations

No matter the reason, including weather or technical issues..

Airline Refund Rule for Delays and Cancellations Department of Transportation Info

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)  has issued a final rule requiring airlines to offer cash refunds for cancellations, significant delays or changes in flight itineraries. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced that under the new standards, airlines must refund passengers in cash or the original form of payment rather than vouchers, no matter the reason for the flight disruption, including weather or technical issues.

This rule stipulates that refunds are due if a domestic flight’s timing changes by three or more hours, or six hours for international flights. Additional circumstances that qualify for refunds include changes in departure or arrival airports and the introduction of extra connections in the itinerary. Moreover, if airlines fail to provide paid services such as Wi-Fi or if baggage delivery is delayed beyond 12 hours after domestic flights, as well as up to 30 hours after international flights, passengers are entitled to a refund of those specific fees.

Americans who have traveled internationally stand out in their views and knowledge of foreign affairs

Travelers line up for TSA screening at Orlando International Airport in Florida in December 2022. (Paul Hennessy/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)

Do people who travel think differently about the world? A new Pew Research Center survey suggests they do.

Americans who have traveled internationally are more interested in and knowledgeable about foreign affairs, feel closer to others around the world, and favor a more active foreign policy, according to the survey of 3,576 U.S. adults conducted in spring 2023. We also surveyed people in 23 other countries about their international travel habits.

This analysis examines international travel with a focus on Americans’ travel, including which Americans travel abroad and how their interest in the world and views of international affairs differ from others.

For this analysis, we surveyed 3,576 U.S. adults from March 20 to March 26, 2023; 3,581 U.S. adults from March 21 to March 27, 2022; and 10,606 U.S. adults from June 14 to June 27, 2021. Everyone who took part in these surveys is a member of the Center’s American Trends Panel (ATP), an online survey panel that is recruited through national, random sampling of residential addresses. This way nearly all U.S. adults have a chance of selection. The survey is weighted to be representative of the U.S. adult population by gender, race, ethnicity, partisan affiliation, education and other categories. Read more about the ATP’s methodology .

For non-U.S. data, this report draws on nationally representative surveys of 27,285 adults conducted from Feb. 20 to May 22, 2023. All surveys were conducted over the phone with adults in Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, South Korea, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Surveys were conducted face-to-face in Hungary, Poland, India, Indonesia, Israel, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. In Australia, we used a mixed-mode probability-based online panel.

Here are the June 2021 survey questions and responses used in this analysis. Those for the March 2022 survey may be found here , as well as those for the March 2023 survey .

How many Americans have traveled internationally?

Roughly three-quarters of Americans (76%) have visited at least one other country, including 26% who have been to five or more. About a quarter (23%) have not traveled internationally, though most in this group say they would if they had the opportunity.

Related:  How experience with international travel varies across 24 countries

To analyze how Americans’ travel experiences relate to their attitudes on other questions, we placed people into three categories:

  • Globe-trotters have traveled to at least five other countries. About a quarter of the U.S. public (26%) falls into this category.
  • Casual travelers have traveled to between one and four other countries. Half of Americans fall into this category.
  • Nontravelers have never left the United States. This category includes 23% of Americans.

Compared with Americans, people in many European nations are more likely to have traveled to five or more other countries. For instance, 88% of Swedes have done so.

A map showing that Americans are less likely than Europeans to have visited 5 or more countries.

However, international travel is much less common in many middle-income nations. It is strongly correlated with a nation’s gross domestic product per capita. (For more on international travel and views about global engagement, read “Attitudes on an Interconnected World.” )

Who travels internationally?

A horizontal stacked bar chart showing that U.S. ‘globe-trotters’ are more likely to be older, have higher incomes and more education.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, older people are more likely than younger people to have traveled internationally. Americans ages 65 and older are more than twice as likely as adults under 30 to fall into our globe-trotter category (37% vs. 17%).

Income is even more strongly related to travel than age. Two-thirds of upper-income Americans have traveled to at least five countries, compared with 9% of Americans with lower incomes.

Similarly, Americans with a postgraduate degree are far more likely to be globe-trotters than those with a high school education or less (59% vs. 10%).

Residents of suburban and urban areas generally have more international travel experience than people who live in rural areas.

There are no significant partisan differences when it comes to international travel: 26% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents qualify as globe-trotters, as do 28% of Republicans and GOP leaners.

Do travelers know more about the world?

A bar chart showing that Americans who’ve traveled widely abroad have greater interest in foreign affairs.

Globe-trotters are especially likely to say they are interested in foreign affairs and follow international news. Casual travelers, in turn, are more likely than nontravelers to do so.

Globe-trotters are also the most knowledgeable about international affairs. In 2022, we conducted an international affairs quiz , asking Americans 12 questions related to international news. On average, globe-trotters got 8.2 of the 12 questions correct, compared with 6.4 for casual travelers and 4.2 for nontravelers.

Is international travel related to views of global engagement?

A bar chart showing that ‘globe-trotters’ prioritize U.S. engagement in world affairs and value compromise with other countries.

International travel experience is also linked to Americans’ views about international affairs and their feelings of connection to other people around the world.

When asked which comes closest to their view, 57% of globe-trotters say the U.S. should be active in world affairs, while 43% say the U.S. should pay less attention to problems in other countries and concentrate on problems at home. In contrast, most casual travelers and nontravelers say the U.S. should focus on problems at home.

In all three groups, at least half of respondents say that when the U.S. is making foreign policy, it should take other countries’ interests into account – even if that means making compromises. But globe-trotters are especially likely to hold that view.

Globe-trotters are also particularly likely to say they feel close to people around the world, with 42% saying so. By comparison, 34% of casual travelers and 30% of nontravelers say this.

Travel Trending with Kathy Witt: Savor the journey on Amtrak

T here are many reasons travelers choose train travel over other modes of transportation – and there are many reasons why they don’t. Nobody chooses a cross-country rail excursion to get somewhere fast, ignore the views, keep to themselves, binge-watch shows or pack food along (as has become the norm with plane travel).

Rail travelers are a special group of adventurers who are willing to take their time and savor the journey to the destination. They anticipate being blown away by the views (some of which can only be experienced by train), enjoy socializing with people from all backgrounds, indulge in quiet time for reading and pursuing other interests and hobbies, and appreciate meal time in the dining car.

I recently boarded Amtrak’s California Zephyr for a laid-back trek from Chicago to Emeryville, California, (near San Francisco), an excursion that took two and half days, presented a constantly changing landscape – not to mention parade of passengers. The trip framed in large picture windows the most breathtaking scenery, from the charming small town of Helper, Utah, outlined in white lights to the soaring Sierra Nevadas. And I loved every minute of it.

The slow pace

Whiling away the time watching the scenery roll by as the clock ticks down town by town is part of the allure and one of the best perks of traveling by Amtrak.

Disregard the timetables. Slowdowns happen along the route. Amtrak can make up for some lost time, but things come up – like a bridge in Sacramento that was raised to let a boat pass through, causing a 15-minute delay. And it’s OK.

The conductor’s narration keeps passengers in the know about points of interest, like Moffet Tunnel west of Denver. Named for Colorado railroad pioneer David Moffat, the tunnel opened nearly a century ago, cutting through more than six miles of the Continental Divide. It’s about 15 minutes in pitch black (and passengers are asked to remain seated throughout) as the train chugs to the tunnel’s western portal, located near Winter Park Resort.

Those views

Because of scenery like that of Winter Park, the California Zephyr is considered one of the most scenically beautiful train trips in North America. Leaving Chicago, it runs west through the plains of Nebraska to Denver (and that exhilarating dark stretch through the tunnel), rolls through the heart of the Rockies to Salt Lake City and onward to Reno, Nevada, through the snow-capped Sierra Nevadas with towering granite peaks and into Sacramento, California, before arriving in Emeryville.

History buffs will be intrigued to see landmarks named for the ill-fated Donner Party, the group of pioneers trapped in the snow-pounded Sierra Nevada range in the winter of 1846-47. There is Donner Pass, rising steeply above the brilliant blue waters of Donner Lake, and the Donner Memorial State Park nearby west of Truckee, California, one of the stops on the route.

Views are best enjoyed in the California Zephyr’s observation car or in a private sleeper car. Sleeper car accommodations include roomettes and bedrooms, the former consisting of two seats that convert to an upper and lower bunk and the latter offering a sofa and separate chair that transform into upper and lower beds plus in-room sink, restroom and shower.

The bedrooms feature twice the space of the roomettes, especially handy when changing clothes or getting ready for the day. Once the roomette is turned down for the evening, standing room is limited to a space measuring roughly about two or so feet wide by one foot deep. Tight, but manageable – and most important, private.

Both roomettes and bedrooms have upgraded bedding, pillows and towels, and both come with complimentary meals and lounge access, priority boarding and a dedicated first class attendant, who helps get passengers settled in, turns down the beds and puts the coffee on in the morning.

Since seating in the observation car is communal, there is much sharing of tables with strangers. Most are friendly, chatty and ready to welcome a new seatmate. Train travelers generally share a love of trains, a penchant for adventure and a sense of humor. A “we’re all in this together” spirit prevails, and strangers very quickly become friends.

On my excursion, passengers in the observation car included a bride’s fivesome in full party mode who entertained everyone with their stories and endless selfies; a group of 13 women friends who talked about all the trips they’d shared together over the years; and a group of Amish travelers from Colorado, one of whom entertained everyone with harmonica tunes.

Traveling by train is the perfect time to read the book or books you’ve been meaning to start (or finish), play cards or board games with traveling companions or people you meet on the train, or work on projects or hobbies.

One among the group of 13 women brought along supplies for handcrafting beautiful art glass chimes and spent many an hour crimping and assembling beads and showing fellow passengers in the observation car the step-by-step process. The bride donned her specially designated T-shirt and posed for photos. A regular train traveler filled everyone in on the Rocky Mountain Train Show – the largest such show west of the Mississippi – which takes place annually in early April.

Moving feast

The biggest draw of train travel? The meals. Breakfast, lunch and especially dinner are special occasions on the train, ones served on white linen-draped tables. Although sleeper car passengers can arrive for breakfast and lunch anytime during open hours, tables are shared with four to a table.

For dinner, the dining car attendant visits the sleeper cars when passengers board and asks their preferred reservation time. Passengers are called for 5:30, 6:30 or 7:30 seatings – again, sharing tables.

The breakfast menu includes continental breakfast, scrambled eggs and three-egg omelet, a breakfast quesadilla and Amtrak’s signature breakfast specialty, a puffy thick-cut brioche French toast served with seasonal berries, whipped cream and powdered sugar. For lunch, grilled cheese, grilled chicken Caesar salad, burgers (either beef or plant-based), chili and a grilled patty melt are among the options.

The three-course dinner begins with an appetizer – pearl tempura shrimp or green salad with baby brie. Entrées include pan roasted chicken breast, Atlantic salmon, a pasta dish and Amtrak’s signature flat iron skirt steak – all served hot and tasty from the kitchen, brought to the dining car by way of a dumbwaiter and delivered with little wait time by a dining car attendant.

Dessert is offered at both lunch and dinner and is typically a rich and irresistible morsel like an ooey-gooey chocolate fudge cake, butter cake or a blondie with chocolate chips and toffee. The first glass of wine or other alcoholic beverage is also included with dinner.

Plan your travels

Amtrak operates more than 300 trains daily to more than 500 destinations, including the California Zephyr. Roomettes and bedrooms are offered as well as a choice of coach seats.

Bring antibacterial wipes and a hot spot as there is no Wi-Fi aboard this particular train. Meals are included for passengers in the sleeper cars. Those with coach tickets can eat in the dining car but must pay for their meals (currently $20/breakfast, $25/lunch and $45/dinner).

Airlines will now be required to give automatic cash refunds for canceled and delayed flights

The Biden administration issued final rules Wednesday to require airlines to automatically issue cash refunds for things like delayed flights and to better disclose fees for baggage or canceling a reservation.

The Transportation Department said airlines will be required to provide automatic cash refunds within a few days for canceled flights and “significant” delays.

Under current regulations, airlines decide how long a delay must last before triggering refunds. The administration is removing that wiggle room by defining a significant delay as lasting at least three hours for domestic flights and six hours for international ones.

Airlines still will be allowed to offer another flight or a travel credit instead, but consumers can reject the offer.

FILE - American Airlines planes sit on the tarmac at Terminal B at LaGuardia Airport, Jan. 11, 2023, in New York. American Airlines is raising bag fees and pushing customers to buy tickets directly from the airline if they want to earn frequent-flyer points. American said Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024, that checking a bag on domestic flights will rise from $30 now to $35 online, and it'll be $40 if purchased at the airport. (AP Photo/Seth Wenig, File)

The rule will also apply to refunds of checked-bag fees if the bag isn’t delivered within 12 hours for domestic flights or 15 to 30 hours for international flights. And it will apply to fees for things such as seat selection or an internet connection if the airline fails to provide the service.

Complaints about refunds skyrocketed during the COVID-19 pandemic, as airlines canceled flights and, even when they didn’t, many people didn’t feel safe sharing a plane cabin with other passengers.

Airlines for America, a trade group for large U.S. carriers, noted that refund complaints to the Transportation Department have fallen sharply since mid-2020. A spokesperson for the group said airlines “offer a range of options — including fully refundable fares — to increase accessibility to air travel and to help customers make ticket selections that best fit their needs.”

The group said the 11 largest U.S. airlines issued $43 billion in customer refunds from 2020 through 2023.

The Transportation Department issued a separate rule requiring airlines and ticket agents to disclose upfront what they charge for checked and carry-on bags and canceling or changing a reservation. On airline websites, the fees must be shown the first time customers see a price and schedule.

The rule will also oblige airlines to tell passengers they have a guaranteed seat they are not required to pay extra for, although it does not bar airlines from charging people to choose specific seats. Many airlines now charge extra for certain spots, including exit-row seats and those near the front of the cabin.

The agency said the rule will save consumers more than $500 million a year.

Airlines for America said its members “offer transparency and vast choice to consumers” from their first search.

The new rules will take effect over the next two years. They are part of a broad administration attack on what President Joe Biden calls “junk fees.” Last week, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced that his department will let state officials in 15 states help enforce federal airline consumer protection laws .

The trains and stations of the Moscow Metro

2 Comments · Posted by Alex Smirnov in Cities , Travel , Video

The Moscow Metro is the third most intensive subway system in the world after Tokyo and Seoul subways. The first line was opened on May 15, 1935. Since 1955, the metro has the name of V.I. Lenin.

The system consists of 12 lines with a total length of 305.7 km. Forty four stations are recognized cultural heritage. The largest passenger traffic is in rush hours from 8:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 19:00.

Cellular communication is available on most of the stations of the Moscow Metro. In March 2012, a free Wi-Fi appeared in the Circle Line train. The Moscow Metro is open to passengers from 5:20 to 01:00. The average interval between trains is 2.5 minutes.

The fare is paid by using contactless tickets and contactless smart cards, the passes to the stations are controlled by automatic turnstiles. Ticket offices and ticket vending machines can be found in station vestibules.
