Asia Tours & Vacations

People drinking, having fun and smiling in Asia

Welcome to Asia, the most populous, energetic and contradictory continent on earth.

Across one vast landmass you will find almost everything. Sci-fi skyscrapers in Japan , whitewashed mountain monasteries, honking moped shoals and silent Taoist temples, neon cityscapes and saffron-clad monks bent in prayer. If you’ve come for the familiar, you’re in for a surprise. You can munch deep-fried grasshoppers with white pepper in Thailand. Ride across the Mongolian tundra. Explore the rice paddy fields in Bali.  Swim with Burmese sea-gypsies. You will begin to understand - this place is where ordinary goes to die.

21 days Thailand, Laos, Vietnam & Cambodia

Our 21 day tour was excellent. We were picked up at the airports, the hotels etc spot on time. Our guides (particularly Ann) were amazing. They were so accommodating. Because there were only two of in our group we were able to see and do so much more. We went to several villages, went to numerous schools, went to lotus farm, etc etc etc. the accommodations were fine, rooms clean and beds comfortable. I would not hesitate to travel with Hoi An express in the future

Thai Experience Tour

Thai Experience

Just finished the 13 day Thai experience tour and would 100% recommended to anyone. On day one we were greeted by our tour leader Dan and made to feel welcome by him from minute 1. Dan went above and beyond to make sure that we all had settled in well and made it a trip of a lifetime. He was very knowledgable about Thailand and knew his way around with ease. A special mention to him for going out his way and adding an extra activity by taking us all to Songkran festival which was genuinely one of the best days of the tour!

Cambodia Intro Tour

Cambodia Intro

Becca was my tour leader for cambodia, it was such an amazing trip! You could tell Becca really knew her stuff about Cambodia, it's people and culture, she even taught us a few words along the way! daily activities and accommodation was excellent, clean, cultural and fun! all questions and queries were promptly answered along the way, 100% recommended. my only improvement would be is that a lot of the food on the tour was western and I would prefer more local delicacy!

Bali Experience Tour

Japan One Life Adventures - 10 Days

It was an amazing experience, I think it’s the perfect outweighs between sightseeing stuff and unique experiences and places. Our Tour guide Jonny was super nice and offers to help with basically everything also outside of the tour. I always felt saved and in good hands.(and he is super funny as well) I definitely would recommend and do it again. It is a lot of walking but not brutally I thought it was way worse.

Cambodia Adventure Tour

Cambodia Adventure

This trip was not what I expected - it was SO much MORE!! I was nervous travelling to a non-english speaking country, as a female, with a teenage daughter in tow, but it has become one of the BEST experiences of my entire life!! The trip was well organised and planned, our tour leader Mony was amazing - he shared his culture and knowledge with us, and was approachable. We met amazing people and created great friendships, while we experienced the true culture and people of Cambodia. There is a lot of travel, but the transport was safe and comfortable, and even with the long hours of travel there were plenty of stops and opportunities to experience and interact with locals, and still time to explore/do activities when we reached our destinations. Use the travel time to get to know the other members of your group better, or watch the world go by - there is plenty to look at! The hotels/guesthouses were mostly what we expected for the price we paid, but some were better! Can't wait for our next trip!!

Amazing Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam 18 days

Just finished my Amazing 18 day tour of Thailand, Vietnam & Cambodia, and ‘Amazing’ is definitely the right word!!! The whole tour was well planned & well run. Special thanks to Ha Nguyen for being in constant email contact with me, advising me of the coming days activities, pickup times & tour details, which was very much appreciated. Daily group tours were fantastic, the drivers & tour guides were so caring, courteous & always very helpful. Thanks also to a special tour guide- Hen Chenda for looking after me at Angkor Wat! Each country had its highlights - too many to mention, but all a delightful experience. Every accommodation was top class, with beautiful rooms, meals were also top quality. I would highly recommend this tour & company. Thanks for the beautiful memories. Cheryl Craig, Australia

Reviews of Small Group tours to Asia

This was my first time ever travelling without family and it was amazing! One of the best months of my life. Our CEO Tong was brilliant and full of knowledge about where we were going and what we would be doing. He made sure to have enough time for anyone and helped in anyway he could to make things run smoothly for everyone on tour including myself. If you go on this tour, make sure you ask for Tong or (Phanet Tep) as your CEO!
Was a great experience! Thank you
Embarking on the "Jungle Hikes & Island Nights" group journey from Bangkok to Singapore was an adventure of a lifetime, magnificently organized and flawlessly executed. From start to finish, the expedition was a resounding success, thanks to impeccable planning and an itinerary that promised—and delivered—an extraordinary experience. The locations we explored were nothing short of spectacular, offering us a diverse palette of experiences that ranged from the serenity of lush jungles to the vibrant nightlife on picturesque islands. The balance between exhilarating hikes and lively parties was just right, ensuring that every day was filled with new adventures and opportunities to create lasting memories. A significant part of this trip's charm was the fantastic group of fellow travelers I had the fortune to journey with. It's rare to find such a harmonious blend of personalities and backgrounds, but we clicked instantly, transforming a group of strangers into lifelong friends. The camaraderie that developed amongst us added a whole new layer of enjoyment to the experience. A special shoutout is deserved for our CEO, Fon, whose expertise, passion, and warm personality made her not just a guide, but a true friend. Her dedication to ensuring that we all had an incredible time was evident in every aspect of the trip. Fon, you are a gem, and your efforts were genuinely appreciated by all of us! However, no adventure is without its lessons. The pace of the tour, while exhilarating, sometimes felt a bit rushed. Extending the itinerary by a day or two could provide a more relaxed pace, allowing for some much-needed rest days amidst the action-packed schedule. For travelers like myself, towering over 185cm, be prepared for a squeeze, especially on the night trains which proved to be quite the challenge. An additional note for future adventurers: consider booking an extra night in Singapore to fully explore the wonders this city has to offer. The tour's conclusion in Singapore feels like just the beginning of another adventure waiting to be discovered. In summary, the "Jungle Hikes & Island Nights" trip from Bangkok to Singapore was an unforgettable journey filled with incredible sights, sounds, and experiences. While there's room for minor adjustments, the overall experience was profoundly impactful, leaving us with memories to cherish for a lifetime. To those seeking adventure, camaraderie, and a touch of magic, this journey comes highly recommended.

Asia Travel Highlights

China tours and beyond.

China is the fastest-developing country in the world. China travel provides the opportunity to see where this destination is heading as well as being able to experience its 4000-year history. Beijing’s highlights include the Great Wall and the Imperial Palace, also known as the Forbidden City. Shanghai is, in many ways, China’s city of the future. Xian , China’s ancient capital, is home to the legendary 2000-year-old Terra Cotta Warriors. Guilin has stunning tropical scenery and landscapes. Suzhou has fascinating canals and ornamental gardens and Kunming is the centre of numerous ethnic minorities, illustrating some of China’s diversity. Then there is Tibet with its fabulous and immense Potala Palace, the dramatic and beautiful Yangtze River with its fjord-like scenery, and the historic Silk Route of China stretching right across the country. All this is just a small part of a large world to be discovered on your China trip.

Japan Travel: Still One of a Kind

Japan brings together the past and the present in its major cities, including Tokyo , Kyoto , Osaka , Nagoya and Hiroshima . It is a land of tradition with its castles, temples and shrines together and with its many special occasions such as the Blossom Festivals. Yet it is also a modern land that inspires innovation and wonders with its speeding bullet trains and the latest electronic gadgets. The cuisine is all Japan’s own, ranging from simple grilled meats to delicately prepared ramen noodles and sushi, uniquely flavoured seaweed tea, and some inexplicably delicious desserts.

Places to Visit in South Korea

South Korea combines the old and new as well, albeit while bringing a very different culture and approach. Enjoy the street markets, palaces and gardens in Seoul , the archaeological sites in the ancient capital of Gyeongju known as the “Museum without Walls”, the port city of Busan with its special temples and the tropical “Hawaii of Korea,” and the magical Jeju Island with its swaying palms and sandy beaches. Korean scenery varies from mountain ranges to forested national parks, and once you’ve had a taste, you’ll want to explore it all.

From Your Hong Kong Tour...

Hong Kong may only cover a small area but it is chock full of reasons to visit, at least for a few days. The hectic pace of everyday life in this dramatic setting charges the city with amazing energy. There is outstanding shopping, ranging from vibrant street markets such as the incomparable Stanley Market to stores selling luxury brand merchandise. The traditional side of Hong Kong can be found in its narrow alleyways and its many temples and pagodas. A must-do is a trip on the Star Ferry between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island.

A Tour of Macau

Not far away on a short ferry ride is Macau with its Portuguese influences reflected in its architecture, churches, fortresses and cuisine. A highlight is a thrilling walk around the outside of the Macau Tower while looking down on the city.

Enjoy sushi and other exotic Japanese food

Travel to Taiwan

Taiwan is a country with many natural attributes with a steep mountain chain running from north to south, lush forests, lakes and an abundance of natural beauty. Its capital, Taipei , is a busy centre of activity with the jewel in the crown being the remarkable National Palace Museum with its treasure trove of ancient Chinese artifacts. Two other highlights are Kenting National Park , Taiwan’s oldest national park and the exotic-sounding Sun Moon Lake , the largest natural lake in the country.

Beyond the Usual Philippines Tour

The Philippines is a land of natural beauty with volcanic mountains, scenic rice paddies, tumbling waterfalls, serene lakes and some of the best beaches in Asia. Manila offers a lively urban scene and an insight into the country’s Spanish rule through a visit to the old area of Intramuros. The major beach resorts include Boracay , Palawan and Cebu . For a change of pace, check out the Banaue Rice Terraces with their breathtaking scenic landscapes carved into the mountains.

Bali, Beach, Temples, and More in Indonesia

Indonesia’s highlights include the magical island of Bali which combines excellent beaches with picture-perfect villages, traditional temples, rice paddies and an active volcano. Take a side trip to the enchanting inland resort of Ubud with its mountain and valley setting and wonderful artisan shops. Archaeology fans should head to Java, specifically Borobudur with its 1200-year-old Buddhist relics and Prambanan with its centuries-old Hindu temple complex. Then, there are the legendary Komodo Dragons on the island of Komodo , the world’s largest lizards and a must-see for brave wildlife lovers.

Food and Culture in Singapore

Singapore is a melting pot of three distinct cultures, Malay, Chinese and Indian which all come together in the country’s architecture, traditions, food and people. There are modern high-rises and colourful neighbourhoods such as Chinatown and Little India. Other highlights are outdoor dining on the Singapore River, a visit to the interesting Jurong Bird Park and to Sentosa Island with its museum, aquarium, beaches, shopping and restaurants.

Malaysia Travel Packed with Adventure

There are many special attractions in Malaysia. There is the cosmopolitan capital, Kuala Lumpur , the island of Penang with its excellent beaches and charming, historical Georgetown, the hill retreats of the Genting and Cameron Highlands , the world’s largest rainforest, Taman Negara, the beautiful resort of Langkawi and the fascinating Portuguese and Chinese-influenced Malacca.

Finding fresh ingredients in Malaysia’s markets.

A Unique Trip to Borneo

Malaysian Borneo offers interesting cities such as Kuching and Kota Kinabalu and South East Asia’s highest mountain, Mount Kinabalu plus the opportunity to stay with native tribes descended from headhunters in the jungle. Scuba diving in the south of Borneo is some of the best anywhere. Brunei , a small country that shares the island, boasts some unique architecture in its capital, Bandar Seri Begawan . This includes the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque and the Royal Palace. Other attractions include rainforests, wildlife and beaches.

Travel with Excitement to Thailand

Thailand is often called the land of smiles because of its gentle, friendly people. It is home to the exciting city of Bangkok teeming with life with its wonderful ornate palaces and temples, street markets, Chao Phraya River on which to take a cruise and its rambling backwater canals. A side trip to the River Kwai is well worthwhile, or to the nearby beach resorts of Pattaya , Hua Hin and Cha-Am.  For more excellent beach resorts, you can’t go wrong with Phuket , Ko Samui , Krabi , Phi Phi Island or Koh Lanta in Southern Thailand. Northern Thailand offers spectacular scenery and impressive cities such as Chiang Mai , the "Rose of the North" and Chang Rai. In this region, you can visit hill tribes, and experience a working elephant camp.

A Trip to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos

The emerging destinations of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos each have their own character and attractions. Vietnam  has fascinating, lively metropolises such as Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi plus the old historical capital of Hue , the nearby atmospheric port of Hoi An , the beach resorts of Nha Trang and Phan Tiet , the amazing and spectacular Halong Bay and the scenic hill stations of Dalat and Sapa. The Mekong Delta offers lush tropical scenery and an insight into local rural life. Cambodia  is home to one of the world’s most amazing archaeological sites, Angkor Wat, with its extensive ancient temple complex. Laos‘s main attraction is the town of Luang Prabang with its colourful temples, exceptional night market and the daily parade of the monks.

Once a closed country, Myanmar has now opened its doors to the world. Marvel at the awe-inspiring Shwedagon Pagoda, a city within a city containing many pavillions and shrines. Take in the” seeing is believing” landscape of the hundreds of Buddhist temples in Bagan .  Mandalay has a large collection of temples and pagodas and Inle Lake offers the opportunity to view colourful country life. Take a boat ride on the lake and observe the fascinating fishing villages.

Why travel to India ?

Where to begin? In Delhi , you can experience the hustle and bustle of Old Delhi, visit Gandhi’s memorial, admire the impressive Jama Masjid Mosque, Humayan’s Tomb, the burial place of several Moghul emperors and the Qutub Minar, the tallest tower in India. In Mumbai , marvel at the Gateway of India overlooking the harbour, take in the attractive Marine Drive, visit Gandhi’s home, now a museum and visit the most amazing outdoor laundry, the Dhobi Ghats. Jaipur is known as the “Pink City” with its City Palace, the enigmatic Palace of Winds, the Jantar Mantar ancient observatory and the striking and majestic Amber Palace perched on top of a hill. No visit to India would be complete without seeing the Taj Mahal in Agra , the white marble mausoleum built by the order of the emperor Shah Jahan in the 1600s.

Arguably India’s most beautiful city, Udaipur is located on scenic Lake Pichola and offers marble palaces and beautiful gardens. Jodhpur has the immense and stunning Mehrangarh Fort located on the top of a hill. For beaches and history, head to Goa and for animal viewing, Ranthambore Tiger Sanctuary . For something unusual, check out the erotic temple carvings in Khajuraho. For ambience and an insight into the Hindu way of life, visit Varanasi and take an early morning boat ride on the River Ganges . Travel south to the attractive city of Cochin for Portuguese influences and the nearby fascinating backwaters of Kerala.

Everest and Nepal Adventure

Nepal is synonymous with Mount Everest viewed from Kathmandu but that’s not all there is to see. The capital, Kathmandu will make you feel as if time has stopped still with its medieval atmosphere, palaces and Buddhist and Hindu temples. Nearby Bhaktapur is known for its woodcarvings, pottery and cloth weaving. Nepal is the place for treks, easy or hard, short or long. Many of these start in the scenic resort of Pokhara located on a beautiful lake. Animal lovers will enjoy a jungle safari in Royal Chitwan National Park .

Sandwiched between India, China and Nepal, Bhutan is a unique and mysterious country full of colourful Buddhist monasteries, museums and local markets. It also has stunning scenery including snow-capped peaks and wooded valleys. It is a great place to experience resplendent festivals which take place constantly.

Mongolia Travel Takes You Out There

Mongolia , the World’s largest landlocked country, was the home of the legendary Genghis Khan. It is also home to the Gobi Desert which is made up of mountains and forests as well as sand dunes. Try a stay here in a traditional yurt for a unique experience. Ulan Bator , which combines the traditional and the modern, is the place to see locals who still dress in their traditional clothes. Mongolia also has a number of national parks and nature reserves.

Sri Lanka Tourism: On the Rise

Sri Lanka offers a combination of attractions such as excellent beaches, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. The capital Colombo offers museums, art galleries, an old fort and beaches. Kandy is the home of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth and an elephant orphanage. The Yala National Park is a special wildlife sanctuary.

Maldives Resorts: Gateways to Paradise

The Maldives are a group of delightful coral islands where you can really escape. Check into your own overwater bungalow and immerse yourself in paradise. In addition to all the water sports, reef, and beach activities you could desire, many Maldives resorts offer such memorable activities as swimming alongside whale sharks, or even dining underwater. No matter what your Maldives vacation looks like, time will definitely slow down for you here!

Our reviews.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Vietnam. We stayed in some lovely locations and enjoyed excellent hotels. Everything was very well organised and all went to plan during our holiday.

As first timers in Asia we can't thank Inside Asia enough for arranging a trip that was beyond our expectations. From first contact and throughout planning your expertise was apparent and reassuring.

Our trip to South Korea was very well organised with very clear instructions on what we needed to do and when. The support before and during the trip was first class and we appreciated the additional information provided in booklets which helped to inform us on what to expect when [...]

I needed a solo road trip suitable for an older person and Sora Jang in Brisbane and your ground people in Korea accommodated my request beautifully.

Asia Travel

Tour asia: everything, everywhere, all at once, all the time.

Sum up touring Asia in a paragraph? Good luck. Positively massive by just about every measure, the sole thread that unites this diverse continent is the sheer diversity of experiences it presents to travellers. Arid deserts and towering peaks; secluded temples and bustling markets; tiny villages and sprawling cities; ancient history and cutting-edge modernity; teeming crowds and places so remote you won’t find another human being around for miles—Asia encompasses all this and so, so, so much more. Don’t expect to absorb it all; dive on in and let it seep into your skin.

How To Solo Travel Southeast Asia

When it comes to solo travel, most people start in Southeast Asia.

Solo travel to Southeast Asia is one of the best ways to break into a solo travel lifestyle because it’s safe, easy to get around, and the people are so friendly.

That being said, it’s true that being a solo female traveler is more challenging than travelling with a group or as a man.

You may face unwanted male attention and are sometimes seen as an easy target for touts in the street.

Some countries in Asia may have different attitudes towards women that you need to be aware of too.

However, the hard experiences will make you stronger as a person and reward you with many unique travel experiences and insights (and lots of funny travel stories too).

If you’re thinking of traveling in Asia as a solo female traveler, below you will find some practical tips on how to travel Southeast Asia solo.

Walk with confidence

Relax when you arrive in a new place, learn the language, let people know where you are at all times, don’t be alone, wear a smile on your face, arrive in new places in the daytime, carry a personal safety alarm, stay in safe accommodation, trust your gut instinct, have an itinerary.

  • Join group tours if you're nervous
  • Don't drink the tap water

Get a local sim card

Try the street food, check the visa requirements, other safety tips, best places to solo travel in southeast asia, final thoughts on solo travel in southeast asia, pin to save on pinterest:, solo female travel tips for southeast asia.

Despite how safe travel is in South East Asia , it’s always wise to take simple precautions to avoid getting into trouble.

Here are my tips for staying safe on the road as a female solo traveller, picked up from over six-months of full-time solo travel around Asia.

When you are travelling long term, you’ll arrive in new places all of the time.

For the first day or two in a new destination, you are particularly vulnerable to being seen as an easy target.

To avoid this, walk with an air of confidence in new places, even when you just arrive with your backpack on your back.

Stand up straight and if people hassle you pretend that you have somewhere to go. If you are seriously in trouble, walk up to another foreigner and pretend to be friends. 99% of the time they will understand and help you.

When you arrive in a new place, you are vulnerable and most likely stressed due to the swarms of tuk tuk drivers and people trying to escort you to their hotels.

Take a minute to adjust to the new place. Look around and acclimatise, maybe even buy a coffee and have time to adjust.

After a rest, you’ll be more alert and relaxed and be less vulnerable.

Many people have respect for you, when you make an effort to speak their language.

They may also think that you have a local husband so might go out of their way to be friendly and helpful.

Try to learn by downloading podcasts to listen to on long bus rides or by making friends with locals who speak English.

It doesn’t matter how much of the language you know; many people will be so proud and happy to hear you utter ‘Thank you ‘ in their mother tongue.

The more people who recognise you and know where you are going in your hostel, the more likely they are to worry about you if they don’t see you for a while.

I always make friends in the dorm and tell them what I will be doing on that day, hopefully they would spread the alarm if something happens to you and you’re not back at night.

I always try to update my Facebook as much as possible and let people at home know where I am and if I will be in an area with no internet for a while.

This seems like a hard task for a solo traveller, but most incidences of assault happen when the victim is alone. Try to be around other tourists on transport and when sight-seeing in the day.

Try not to walk in a secluded area at night. Women in foreign countries will usually be helpful in times of need if local men are harassing you.

Read : Why you’ll never be lonely when you travel alone

Many people in Asia react very strongly to people who become aggressive.

It’s hard to stay calm, when you have people surrounding you to sell you things.

Have a smile on your face, so people react more kindly to you and just say ‘no’ with a smile on your face and a shake of your head.

Read more : Are you smiling on your travels ?

I always try and avoid arriving in new places at night alone. It makes you more of a target and public transportation options may be limited.

If it’s impossible to arrive in the day, get a reputable taxi to your accommodation or try to travel with other travellers you meet on the way.

You’ll hopefully never need to use it, but carrying a safety alarm, such as a safety whistle, gives you an extra air of confidence and can make you feel safer when travelling solo.

Stay in places that have high ratings on sites, such as Hostelbookers, and those that have a reputation for being safe. If the room does not seem secure, don’t stay there.

Accommodation is plentiful and cheap in South East Asia so you are bound to find somewhere secure easily.

This is the best tip that I could ever give you. Trust your intuition and gut feelings at all times.

If you meet a friendly person on the bus who wants to share a room, but something just doesn’t feel right, don’t share a room.

If you need to get out of a situation just lie and make up an excuse.

The good thing about being a traveller is that you are anonymous, no one knows who you are and you should use that to your full advantage to lie if you need to get out of a bad situation.

When visiting Asian countries, you will find there is so much to see and do, from historic temples to diving trips to beaches and waterfalls.

It’s easy to get caught up and want to do everything.

My top tip for beginners to solo travel is to have a list of the best places to see and prioritize which ones are important to you.

If it’s your first solo trip, then stick to the tourist trail and don’t go off the beaten path.

Join group tours if you’re nervous

Group tours are a great way to ease into solo female travel life.

They allow you to meet people, and who knows, you may even meet some travel friends to travel with after.

They are a great way to get introduced to a country and a way of life.

Don’t drink the tap water

In some places, tap water is safe in SE Asia, but in others it’s really bad.

Wherever you go, play it safe and drink bottled water.

The best way to get connected is to get a local sim card.

You can get many different plans, but sim cards are really cheap and the coverage is good in SE Asia.

You can get a sim card from most 7-Eleven stores, or look for telecom providers in that city and go to a shop.

Don’t get a sim card from the airport, if possible, it’s ridiculously overpriced.

The best option if you have an unlocked phone, is to purchase an eSim . It’s easy, and automatic, and you don’t need to run around the destination trying to find a sim and then understand how it works. Airalo is our preferred esim provider.

Street food in Asia is a way of life. You might think that it’s unclean and you’re going to get sick, but you honestly won’t if you know what to look for.

When trying street food, make sure you follow these tips:

  • Make sure the food is piping hot
  • Pick a place that has lots of people
  • Pick a place where you sit outside on little stools
  • Make sure they are cooking on an open fire
  • If the chef is an old woman, you know it’s going to be good.
  • Look out for flies. If there are a lot of flies over the meat, it’s probably not good.

Check out these places to eat street food in Bangkok

Most countries need a visa for Vietnam and Laos, so make sure you have the documentation and everything you need prepared weeks in advance!

I had to extend my trip in Laos because I had to wait for my Vietnam visa to be approved.

Make sure you have all the documents exactly how they wanted it.

The first time I applied for a Vietnam visa, the photo wasn’t clear enough so they declined it.

The immigration officers are incredibly picky, so save yourself some time and make sure all your application steps are perfect.

Here are some tips that you may have heard many times before. It’s always good to have a recap once in a while though:

  • Don’t flash your valuables about
  • Try not to walk alone late at night
  • Don’t accept drinks from strangers in bars
  • Lock your valuables in lockers when you can
  • Wear your bag over your body to avoid bag snatchers
  • Wear clothes that are appropriate to the country you are visiting
  • If you rent a scooter, test the breaks thoroughly. Most bikes in SE Asia are not well maintained.

If you’re not sure where to start your solo travel adventures in Southeast Asia, here are some places I recommend:

  • Singapore – it’s expensive, and there’s not much to see and do, but the culture is not too far off what you might find in Europe or the United States, so it’s a great first destination to get used to the climate and fast-paced Asia life without being too culture shocked.
  • Siem Reap, Cambodia – this is the gateway to the famous Angkor Wat and is a relaxing, chilled city with friendly locals and a backpacker vibe. Phnom Penh is great for museums and learning about the country’s history, but Siem Reap has a special vibe. Here are things to know before visiting Cambodia .
  • Luang Prabang, Laos – this is a small city with a river running through it. Like Siam Reap, it has a small backpacker vibe with a relaxed atmosphere.
  • El Nido, Palawan, The Philippine s – you won’t find nature anywhere in the world more stunning. Plus, there are lots of travelers here to meet.
  • Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – it’s a bit like Singapore in the way that it’s quite modernized, so it makes a great first stop for first time solo travelers who might be nervous.
  • Bali, Indonesia – you will either love or hate Bali. It’s overrun with tourists nowadays, but it’s still undeniably beautiful. If you want to meet other travelers, you will have to try very hard not to meet people in Bali.
  • Taiwan – this is a very safe, very small country that’s really easy to get around. It’s not the cheapest country in SE Asia, but it has a very unique culture and is very easy to feel at home in.
  • Chiang Mai, Thailand – this is another popular place in SE Asia to meet people. Northern Thailand has some of the most beautiful nature, and unlike Bangkok, it’s a lot more chill. In fact, Pai is a backpacker’s haven.
  • Hoi An, Vietnam – Vietnam can be chaotic, especially in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi where scooters drive on any path they find. Hoi An is a lot more chilled and relaxing, but still cheap and pretty. Hue is also a great city for solo female travelers as it has lots to see and do and places to meet people.
  • Flores, Indonesia – if you like island life, Flores is for you. It’s laid-back and peaceful, and not quite as overcrowded as Bali. Lombok is also a cool island with volcanoes, hikes and a breathtaking landscape.

There is always a lot of scare mongering whenever people talk about solo traveling, especially as a woman, but don’t let them put you off travelling solo.

It’s one of the greatest things that I have ever done in my life and has changed my personality for the better.

After you have travelled solo you can do anything.

Keep alert and stay safe to ensure that your trip is memorable for the right reasons!

AirAsia Group starts new airline for Cambodian travel

asia travel group

AirAsia has introduced its seventh airline, AirAsia Cambodia, which commenced services on May 2.

With an initial fleet of two Airbus A320s, the airline operates from the hub of Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH), connecting travellers to the cities of Siem Reap and Sihanoukville, and beyond, through hubs in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.

AirAsia Cambodia will provide low-cost air travel across the country as well as overseas, leveraging the group’s core strength to drive customer and operational excellence for sustained growth and profitability.

As a group, AirAsia serves a total of six routes into Cambodia from Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok, carrying 1.3 million guests into the kingdom historically.

AirAsia Cambodia will be announcing its international destinations in the next quarter following a careful assessment of demand and market dynamics.

“We wish to express our sincere gratitude to the Secretariat of State Civil Aviation (SSCA) of Cambodia for awarding the Air Operator’s Certificate to AirAsia,” said Tony Fernandes, CEO of Capital A.

“AirAsia’s expansion into Cambodia underscores our profound grasp of the ASEAN market. Cambodia’s dynamic population of 17 million and its growing youth segment present a substantial consumer base and an opportunity to cater to domestic demand while contributing to its economic progress.”

Vissoth Nam, CEO of AirAsia Cambodia added: “AirAsia has a long history in Cambodia and we are proud to chart a new milestone not only for the airline industry in the region but for the country today.

“The enhanced air connectivity has also contributed to the steady growth of the ASEAN tourism industry at an annual average rate of almost 10 per cent in the last decade. As AirAsia Cambodia joins the fray, we are poised to further expand on this growth while unlocking new experiences and opportunities for millions of Cambodians at the best value and world’s best services.

Lego Group makes key Asia Pacific appointments; Nina Patricia Da Costa to head region’s travel retail

asia travel group

The Lego Group today announced the appointment of two General Managers to its Asia Pacific (APAC) leadership team, reporting directly to Claus Kristensen, Senior Vice President of APAC.

The Danish company said the appointments underscore a commitment to expanding its presence and driving growth in the region by establishing strong leadership for the recently created business units of Singapore, Malaysia, and Travel Retail (SMTR), and India & Emerging Asia (IEA).

Highly regarded travel retail executive Nina Patricia Da Costa assumed the SMTR role, effective 6 May.

She was formerly Moët Hennessy Travel Retail Asia Pacific Sales Director, after earlier career roles with Benefit, SC Johnson and L’Oréal.

Kristensen said: “Cedric and Nina joining our APAC leadership team opens an exciting new chapter for us in Asia Pacific.

“Their expertise, coupled with their proven track records in driving innovation and fostering growth, support our ambition to remain at the forefront of the toy industry in the region. I am confident in their ability to lead their newly created business units as we inspire creativity, shape the future of play, and propel the Lego Group forward in Asia Pacific.”

Da Costa added: “I am thrilled to begin this new journey with the Lego Group, leveraging my expertise in steering the Singapore, Malaysia and Travel Retail business unit and in contributing to the group’s ongoing success in this lively and rapidly evolving region.

“I am eager to embark on this new and exciting phase of my career, cultivating collaborative synergy within our teams and our esteemed partners, as we collectively advance our mission of empowering individuals through the transformative power of play.”

Cedric Roose, who has been Lego Group’s Country Manager for New Zealand for the past six years, has been promoted to General Manager for India & Emerging Asia business unit, effective 1 May.

The Lego Group veteran has spent the last 15 years gaining a wealth of experience in Sales, Regional Commercial Development and General Management across Australia, Singapore and New Zealand, the company noted.

Under his leadership, the Lego Group’s New Zealand business unit achieved double-digit growth over the last six years.

In his new role, Roose will be responsible for driving commercial growth and regional expansion in India and Emerging Asia, which are seen as key growth engines for the region.

Roose said: “I am truly honoured and humbled to spearhead the newly established India & Emerging Asia business unit.

“The potential across India, Indonesia and other countries in this part of the world is boundless, and I am eager to work closely with the team and our distributor partners to continue championing the Lego brand and foster immersive high-quality play experiences for both children and adults alike.” ✈
