For domestic travel we require a three week advanced notice so we can work directly with you to find the right nurse or caregiver for your particular needs and make sure that we provide you with the best care solution based on your travel plans.

Traveling Caregivers for International Travel

In the case of International travel, we require three to five weeks so as to secure all necessary travel documentation for our caregiver.

The family is responsible for the travel expenses, lodging and meals in addition to the professional fee for the caregiver services. Professional fees range between $350 to $550 per day based on the trip and the level of care required (caregiver vs. nurse).

The things that piss me off., how to get a tourist visa to travel to russia from canada.

I’m going to Moscow in a couple of months, and we bought the tickets a while ago. More recently I’ve randomly discovered that I need a visa to travel to Russia. I’m glad I know people who know these things, it would have been very annoying to arrive there and be told we’re not allowed in. I’d expect Expedia to warn me, but no I guess they don’t do that.

Anyway, now that I’ve gone through the process I can say it’s very straightforward if you know what to do, and if you don’t – it feels like an impossible bureaucratic mess. So here’s a tutorial for getting a visa to go to Russia if you’re looking to do that.

There is some information here and here if you read russian but the guidance there is inadequate.

You start by filling out this application for the consulate . You won’t yet have everything you need yet but it doesn’t hurt to start, you can resume the application later. If you manage to screw up massively – don’t worry, at the end of that application you have to print it out and take it to the office, so at this point a mistake is not something to worry about.

Here are parts of the application that may be confusing and how to deal with them:

If you had USSR or Russian nationality at some time

The first really annoying thing. For Canadian-only citizens this is not an issue. But if you were born in the USSR – you may run into a problem like I have. The problem is that quite likely you have no documents left whatsoever from that time, so the options they give you don’t work:

• Prove that you’ve renounced your Russian citizenship: this proof may not exist if you left in the early 90s
• Visa to Israel: only works if that’s where you went
• Stamp in their passport saying… only works if you had a passport back then and still have it.

Neither of those worked for me. My parents went to Romania when I was 12, I had no passport, the romanians even replaced my birth certificate with a Romanian one. But it still says on my passport today that I was born in Moldova so I have to deal with this.

For me I chose “Yes” in answer to that question and for the details picked 01June1991: DISSOLUTION OF THE USSR. That’s the advice I was given at the Visa office. The only document I had to provide was the Landed Immigrant paper that was in my passport when I immigrated. Luckily I kept that even though I’m a citizen now.

Number of entries

You pick one. I don’t know what the point is in more than one but if that’s what you need – I can’t answer that question.

Date of entry into / exit from Russia

These have to match your actual dates. Mind that you may arrive on a different day than when you’re leaving. In the past visas were given out for a period of time unrelated to specific entrance/exit dates but that’s no longer the case.

Which institution you are going to visit?

This is the other annoying thing. The theory is that you’re going to use a russian travel agency for your trip and they will provide you with these numbers. But we weren’t going to use a travel agency – I speak russian and am perfectly able to find my way around – there’s plenty to see in Moscow without a pre-arranged tour.

But that’s not an option. Don’t worry, we’re not the only ones who ran into this. Basically what I did was look for hotels in the centre Moscow and several of them had “Visa Support” buttons. These take you to websites such as this one , where you pay approx. 35$ to get the paper you need for your visa. No other services are involved (hence the low price). After you pay for it (Credit Card via PayPal worked for me) you get the paper you need immediately in your email.

On that paper you have to find the reference number (it’s called reference number) and a confirmation number (top of the form on the left).

Medical insurance

I found a place online that said this is not needed for Canadian citizens, it’s mostly for people from the EU. Probably because they don’t have public health care systems in many of the EU countries.

Just in case though I put in one of my numbers from my Sunlife insurance from work.

Do you plan to stay anywhere (hotel, individual)

Doh, yes. You want to pick Hotel. If you pick Individual – I hear they have to go through hell on their end to get the paperwork done. Most likely you don’t need the hotel booked at this point. I didn’t but they said because we’re travelling with the whole family the consulate may ask for a reservation confirmation.

Education and work experience

I think the point of this is to figure out whether you’re planning to go to Russia to work or participate in some armed conflict. Make sure that you don’t and fill in the form appropriately. The details (addresses/phone numbers) don’t need to be precise.

Have you ever visited other countries in the past ten years?

Who the hell hasn’t? I put in one entry with a made-up date for the USA and one for Moldova. I don’t know how they expect me to figure out where I went when in the last 10 years.

That’s all the advice I have. Note that the people at the Visa office are actually quite nice and helpful, but they don’t answer their phone so you have to go there and talk to them. Note also that the visa office is just a processing centre – they don’t make any decisions. So ask them your questions, they’ll help you as best they can, but once your application is ready – it’s up to the guys at the consulate to decide.

And bring payment as cash or a money order, they don’t accept anything else there.

The Consulate of México in Fresno – the foreign gubernatorial entity that serves 1.5 million Mexican nationals residing in the Central Valley with services such documentation, protection and legal affairs – has a new leader.

Minister Nuria P. Zuñiga Alaniz, who served as deputy consul for the last three years in Fresno, assumed functions as head consul on April 2.

The consulate , which has been in the valley for more than 90 years, provides different services to Mexican nationals.

The consulate is best known for the documentation service which has the most demand – passports, matrícula consular (consular registration), credencial de elector (voter identification), birth certificates, registro civil (civil registry), dual nationality, power of attorneys, among other documentations.

“Which are services that people require more every day,” she said.

As part of the services provided, parents can request dual citizenship for children born in the United States or adults can request dual nationality if their parents were born in México.

Zuñiga Alaniz said while there are more than 40 services the consulate offers in Fresno under one roof; in México those services are carried out in 25 different government agencies.

“The attention we provide to our community has increased as time has progressed,” she said.

A familiar face

Having served the consulate’s community in the Valley the past few years has allowed Zuñiga Alaniz to know firsthand the stories of many of Mexican nationals as well as the challenges they face and their needs.

“The advantage of having been deputy consul is that it already gives me a much more complete and much more documented panorama of the needs and challenges that our community faces, particularly here,” said Zuñiga Alaniz, a career diplomat who has been a member of the Mexican Foreign Service since 2010.

“And that allows me to do a much more complete analysis than other consuls have not had because maybe arriving at a new place is starting from the beginning.”

Zuñiga Alaniz replaces former head consul Adriana González Carrillo, who returned to México after four years in Fresno. González Carrillo’s last day was Feb. 29.

With the advantage of already knowing the community, Zuñiga Alaniz said now she “can get to a point where we can take more actions and focus.”

With more than 60% of the population in the area being of Mexican origin or born in México, Zuñiga Alaniz said the presence of the consulate in the Valley is extremely important.

The consulate covers eight counties in the area including Mariposa, Merced, Madera, Inyo, Fresno, Tulare, Kings and Kern.

Other services and initiatives

The consulate offers other services such as service window for indigenous peoples and there are plans to open a service or civic education window to promote not only a stronger civic education in the community but the importance of voting.

“Why is it important that we participate in the elections in Mexico now that we can,” Zuñiga Alaniz said. “So those are some of the projects that have been opened in recent years.”

The consulate has partnered with the organization Binational of Central California for a mental health program.

“All these new programs serve very specific needs that we have detected in the community,” Zuñiga Alaniz said. “Obviously the issue of mental health, we all know that COVID left many consequences or revealed many problems that we had.”

Zuñiga Alaniz said the topic of mental health is something that remains a bit taboo in the community, that is why it was extremely important for the consulate to offer those services and create awareness and break that taboo.

Another service is protection and legal affairs area. There is also community affairs, which seeks links with the entire diaspora and does so through three programs: education, financial education and health.

“All this is focused on empowering our community, so that they can open doors, have greater opportunities, better life opportunities, but also in some way that they adapt to the norms and ways of life established in this case the Central Valley,” Zuñiga Alaniz said.

“This is one of the consulate’s objectives to provide this care, to support our community to grow and make a more integrated and stronger community,” she said.

Zuñiga Alaniz said it is a “very big challenge” to provide service to more than 1.5 million people in a very rural environment where access to information or services is sometimes difficult.

“Obviously, part of what I want to do or part of the issues we want to improve as a consulate is, well, attention to service, quality of service, but also being able to build and continue weaving this great network of allies that already we have but increase it for the benefit of the community,” she said.

The consulate recently expanded business hours from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Before Fresno, Zuñiga Alaniz was at the Consulate General of México in Houston, at the Embassy of México in Bolivia, and Sub-Saharan Africa at the Secretary of Foreign Affairs.

Zuñiga Alaniz has a bachelor’s degree in political science and administration from Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain); an MBA in Political Science from El Colegio de México (México); holds postgraduate diplomas on Mexican Culture, IMR, and on U.S. Political Institutions and Bilateral Relations México-U.S., Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies, University of California San Diego.

Housing | Housing to crypto to wellness: How California fares in 20 national rankings

Be aware that the creation of these grades is far more art than statistical science..

We live in a ranking age with lists of “best” and “worst” and “in-between” touching every slice of life, industry and geography.

Some of these scorecards are based on polling. Others are data-based, trying to decipher government or business stats. And some are simply opinions – individual or consensus.

Yes, these rankings can be discussion starters – whether for policy debate or just plain fun. Before the chats get too intense, be aware that the creation of these grades is far more art than statistical science.

I’m bemused at the wave of state-vs.-state rankings that flow into my inbox at work. Most of these scorecards are not created to advance societal conversations. Rather, they’re promoted in hopes of generating online attention for a company that likely paid somebody to create “best/worst state” buzz.

Not that these state grades themselves aren’t interesting. So, I waded through my inbox to find 20 rankings for California that might intrigue somebody.

20 scorecards

No. 1 spending per capita on clothing and footwear, according to shopping stats tracked for QR Code Generator.

No. 2 costliest housing gap – average wage for bachelor’s degree holders vs. median rent for a one-bedroom apartment – says U.S. Census Bureau figures tracked by Sparefoot.com.

No. 2 lowest percentage of its population as young homeowners, from a review of census data for Agent Advice.

No. 3 largest average business borrowings, says an analysis of Small Business loans from 2020-2023 by CreditDonkey.

No. 3 biggest three-year jump in diabetes diagnoses to 2021, says a peek at government health stats by Diabetes Strong.

No. 3 most online searches per capita looking for ways to become self-employed, according to a study by QRFY.

No. 3 obsessed with cryptocurrency, according to CoinLedger that looked at online search volume for crypto-related terms.

No. 8 highest per capita searches for online courses per person, according to study for Freedom Bound Business.

Bottom line

To be honest, let’s state a caveat: Who would send a journalist a pitch highlighting “California ranks 25th” in blah-blah-blah? Middle-of-the-pack rankings are boring. Thus, my inbox has a bias toward the cases where California is an outlier – good or bad.

So any conclusion, if one might draw anything meaningful from this rather random collection of stats, is that California is an expensive place with both good and troubling characteristics.
