Cruise to Lakshadweep (an incredible experience)

Just back from an incredible trip to Lakshadweep! My journey began with a luxurious 4-night sail on the Cordelia cruise's 'Empress.' This 12-floor beauty offered stunning ocean views from my room and top-notch amenities. The entertainment was a blast, with themed events keeping everyone engaged (10/10!). The ship was impeccably clean (10/10!), and for some, the ever-present availability of liquor might be a bonus (Just saying!). Lakshadweep itself is a dream come true. Crystal-clear waters lapped at pristine white sand beaches on Agati Island, a hidden gem with a population that would fit in a third of Chandigarh! (Think 7,000 people in a 4-5 km radius!). Snorkeling, scuba diving, and glass-bottom boat rides revealed a vibrant underwater world, perfect for nature lovers. I even ventured on a village tour and met some of the friendly locals. This place felt truly unique in India! A Gentle Note on the Cruise: While the cruise experience was mostly positive, there's room for improvement. The food variety, especially during off-peak hours, could be more extensive. Common options like pizza, burgers, and Asian cuisines were surprisingly limited. Even Indian dishes, despite the variety offered, lacked a certain punch. It felt like some options, like pizzas and Chinese dishes, were only available for an extra cost in USD. Additionally, long queues and occasional arguments at food counters created a less-than-ideal atmosphere. Considering the high cost and luxurious image of the cruise, a wider selection and improved delivery system would elevate the experience. Overall: Despite the food hiccups, the cruise was enjoyable. Lakshadweep's beauty truly stole the show! Cruise was never so popular in India, until Cordelia arrived . We planned it a month in advance and booked a 4 day cruise to Lakshadweep Islands. Let me take you through each and every aspect of the cruise. 1) Mesmerizing Interiors and great quality food / beverage: This would be an understatement when you talk about the ambience and the quality of food served at Cordelia. It is nothing but a 5 star deluxe hotel. I had booked a Mini Suite ( that comes with a balcony) and a Ocean View ( that has a window ). I do not not recommend the inner staterooms as they are dark and may be claustrophobic as it does not have any view and completely enclosed. There is no stopping when it comes to drinks. Have a variety of alcohols and soft-drinks ( completely incl. in your package) 2) Some of the staff members like Raj and Varsha from the front office ( guest services), MJ from the restaurant and the entire house keeping staff were so warm and welcoming . They are so calm and composed when they used to interact with us and especially MJ who narrated so many lovely stories to us of the his experience at the cruise. You will also find staff members at Front Office and Restaurants turn a deaf ear ( may be they get overwhelmed by seeing so much crowd and don't have too much patience to handle the guests ) 3. Stage Performances ..Mind blowing . They are easily comparable with the best in the world. The Balle Balle show artists ( Suraj, Sneh, Amit, Ansh, Onisha, Chitransh and so many others ) and Magician Tejas were just so good . You will love their performance and cannot wait for the next day to watch them again in a new avatar. 4. While the Cruise list if activities is power packed, I am not sure if you will enjoy all of it. There is just so much crowd that the enjoyment takes a back seat. I personally felt apart of the shows at the Marquee Theatre and the music at "Chairman's club" , other things can be skipped and you can relax in your Mini Suite Balcony , head to the gym or the walk on the Boat Deck viewing the sea and enjoy the breeze. 5. There is gambling for adults, gaming arcade for the kids ( all come at a extra cost) 6. When the cruise is full there are approx 1700-1800 ppl onboard, so image the rush that you will see on the cruise during 1. Boarding the Ship ( there is a queue) 2. breakfast, lunch or dinner 3. show times 4. various activities 5. Getting down from the ship So be prepared , and if you are not a person who like crowded places , it may be a little let down for you . But there is always the Boat Deck, where you can have a walk. Not many people walk there because they are busy participating in various activities going on the cruise. So you will have a very peaceful time on the boat deck. Hope you like my review. i am my family travelled on the Laskhwadeep cruise, it was amazing. from the very nice ship to enthralling entertainment, to yummy food ... everything was just perfect. My family loved the new year holidays and i can't thanks the Cordelia team for the amazing experience.

Cruising with Cordelia was a blast! The ship is huge with around 800 rooms, so there's always something cool to check out. I loved that they added an Indian touch to the entertainment shows, it made them really special. And let's talk about the food - 5 buffets a day and unlimited alcohol, I was in heaven! One of the best parts was chilling on the upper deck and watching the stars. Overall, Cordelia Cruise is a must-try for everyone. It's the only Indian cruise liner and super safe, so you can relax and enjoy every moment.

Cruise Review: Mumbai to Kochi and Lakshadweep, aboard Cordelia Cruises’ The Empress

My first cruise holiday in the post pandemic era happened when I recently received an invitation to cruise from Mumbai to Kochi and Lakshadweep, aboard Cordelia Cruises’ The Empress.

The ship cruises from Mumbai, and is massive with 796 cabins, 11 decks, a food pavilion, fine dining restaurant, speciality restaurants, bars, lounges, business centres, spa, salon, dive in theatre, casino, marquee theatre, non-stop entertainment, musical performances, live bands, adventure activities, shopping, and Indian and international cuisines.

With the new Covid-19 norms, all passengers are required to be fully vaccinated and carry a negative RT-PCR test (no older than 48 hours) to board the vessel. I checked into the vessel at the Mumbai port and, once aboard, I noticed that there were hand sanitizing stations everywhere on the ship. There are also messages to reinforce Covid appropriate behaviour including masking up and practising social distancing.

I stayed in an ocean view room that had a large window facing the ocean. You can choose to book a luxurious room with a private balcony, a suite that has butler service and in room dining as well as the chairman’s suite, a top-of-the-line accommodation with private butler service, in-room dining and access to exclusive chef’s table for dining. The budget-friendly interior staterooms are also available.

As well as the ocean view, my room held a small desk and plenty of storage that was useful on the six-day cruise from Mumbai to Kochi, Lakshadweep and back to Mumbai. The room was comfortable and had a television, a small study desk that doubles up as a dresser and an attached bathroom with a small shower cubicle.

The activities

Being on a six-day long cruise may sound like a daunting task, but there is much you can do to pass the time. The cruise has a charter of events daily and as my tour had two whole ship days, I scanned the events carefully and noticed that there was a lot to do with a selection of paid for and complimentary activities.

There are interesting workshops like napkin folding and towel art and even a scintillating magic show. The cruise has a few shows that are its own production which I recommend that you must watch. A dance show which pays tribute to various dance forms of India as well as Oye Balle Balle a dance romance, are great picks when you are aboard. There is also an adult-only show (open to 18 years and above) which is a paid event.

Other on-board activities include reading at the library, enjoying a spa session, playing housie, a card room, table tennis, rock climbing (you must have the right sports shoes) and casino activities. Apart from this, there are a lot of activities that the staff conducts from contests to line dancing and kids’ activities that are sure to keep every family member engaged. My favourite place was the outer deck which was great for taking a walk. I noticed one round is equal to a quarter of a mile and this is also the best place to catch some stunning sunrise and sunset moments over the ocean.

All meals are served at the Windjammers Cafe and the Starlight restaurant where there is breakfast, lunch, evening snacks and dinner service available as buffet service. If you are in the mood for a fine dining experience, I suggest that you book a meal at Chopstix, the speciality Chinese restaurant that serves a delectable selection of Indo Chinese fare that is executed perfectly to your specifications. There is also a paid Mediterranean meal of pizzas that you can have for lunch.

I recommend you try the chaats on board during snack time = the selection of dishes includes Bhel puri, sev puri, paani puri, dabeli, pav bhaji, onion pakoda that will surely have you asking for more. The food includes an eclectic selection of Pan-Asian, tandoor specialties, Jain food and Indian fare – separately for vegetarian and non-vegetarian and a selection of mouth-watering desserts. If you are keen on a thaali meal, you will need to book in advance by paying for it.

If you like your drinks, there are several choices for your favourite cocktails and beer here whether it is at The Pool Bar, Connexions Bar or The Chairman’s Club. There is an extensive selection of wines, premium and super premium liquor accompanied by live music as well. If you are on board do take the bridge tour which is a paid service that will take you to the captain’s deck where you can speak to the people in charge of navigating the ship and get to see the best view of the ocean.

Shore excursions

One of the primary reasons I cruised was to visit Lakshadweep, a destination that has been on my travel bucket list for a while. The ship does not dock so tender boats ply to take you ashore and, much like I had imagined, Lakshadweep is a picture-perfect postcard. I visited Kadmat Island as part of the excursion where a bus takes you to the only resort on the island where a range of water sports like scuba diving, banana boat and snorkelling are offered.

We were welcomed with a traditional dance and orange juice. I opted for a glass boat ride and saw some of the most amazing corals of my life. The ship however sails on several itineraries and makes stops at other places like Goa, Diu, and Chennai as well. Shore excursions are a great way to get a slice of life in a new city but are on a first come first serve basis and you would be in good stead if you book them in advance. I suggest you check with the shore excursion counter soon after you check in to avoid disappointment.

I took the Kochi Harbour tour which was a great way to experience a slice of God’s Own Country, Kerala. The tour starts with a coach ride that drops you to a harbour from where a motorboat takes you on an hour-long ride to see the islands of Vypeen, Gundu, Vallaradam and Bolgatty. The tour also takes you to see the Chinese fishing nets and the oldest European church of the state St. Francis Church. You can also visit the Pardesi synagogue here, a one of its kind Jewish synagogue.

After this there is free time to shop and eat and most spaces here come with a little café so you can enjoy a quick bite amidst art and culture. I grabbed a cold coffee at Café Mocha and had it all by myself in what seemed like an art gallery surrounded by some beautiful paintings. The Jewish town is dotted with shops selling local arts and crafts and it is a great place to take back a souvenir.

On arrival and Agatti Airport our representative Pick up from Airport and proceed to Guest House and take your lunch at Guest House. After Lunch proceed to embarkation Jetty to leave to Kavaratti by Speed boat, journey will take hardly 2:30 Hrs and transfer to Kavaratti Island Beach Resort. After refreshment proceed for the nearest Beach. Evening tea and dinner at Resort Night stay at Kavaratti Island.

After morning breakfast proceeds to beach for water sports activities. A well-equipped and water sports center attached with resort. Please approach for actives like diving, snorkeling, kayaking, parasailing and so on with unlimited fun available on payment. Lunch, evening tea and dinner at resort restaurant. • 15% cancellation charge will be deducted if the booking is cancelled 30 days before checkin.
• 30% cancellation charge will be deducted if the booking is cancelled between 29th to 7th days before checkin.
• No refund if cancelled within 7 days before checkin .
• 100% refund if the schedule is cancelled due to unfavorable weather conditions and/or other unexpected technical faults.
• No damages/claims will be payable except MONEY paid by guests to us.

• Consumption of liquor is prohibited in Lakshadweep island except Bangaram island.
• Tourists availing LTC may collect LTC certificate fromthe tour agency at the time of return journey.
• Transport and tour change bifurcation is given in the tariff chart.
• ID Proof for each passenger is mandatory.
• UT of Lakshadweep has been declared as prohibited area under Lakshadweep prohibition regulation 1979 and carrying liquor into Island is an offence under above regulation and rules framed there under.

Things to consider before the trip!

Cancellation Policy & Payment Terms

We keep it transparent, crystal clear!

• If the Guest decides to cancel the tour for any reason whatsoever then s/he shall give a written application to the Company within specified time limit along with original receipt issued by the Company. Such cancellation will attract cancellation charges stated hereunder.
• Cancellation charges will be calculated on gross tour cost and the cancellation charges shall depend on date of departure and date of cancellation
• Cancellation charges for any type of transport ticket are applicable as per the rules of the concerned authority.
• Air tickets issued on special fares are NON REFUNDABLE and Guest shall bear cancellation charges.
• Any refund payable to the Guest will be paid after the Company receives refund from the respective authorities. The Company deducts processing charges from the refund to be paid to the Guest.

Payment Terms

• Airlines/Room up-gradation and complimentary will not be entertained during the tour unless if specified at the time of booking.
• There is no refund for any services not utilized during the tour.
• Security deposit is required either in cash or credit card by hotels which is refundable provided no room incidentals are incurred. This security deposit is not included in this quote and must be paid by the guests/corporate directly to the hotel when checking in.
• Guests are advised not to keep valuables in the coach/vehicle while sightseeing. The Company shall not be responsible for loss of valuables from the coach / vehicle . If the coach / vehicle is accidentally or otherwise damaged by the Guest, s/he will be required to pay compensation for the same.
