“Carnival, as a company… it brings tears to my eyes because of how much it has helped my family.”
Each of us has a story to tell why we go onboard Carnival
With strong determination, from Hotel Steward to Hotel Director
AWARDS, ACHIEVEMENTS, ACCOLADES
What inspired me to join Carnival is the passion I have for cooking and my love for food. Which really become self of my life in the kitchen and the kitchen has become my first home. I work in the galley preparing the food, fish, pasta, some Filipino dishes, Indonesian dishes and Italian dishes as well. I do the main entrees and work in the crew food line. Working on an International cruise ship I learned how to cook different cuisine which I really love and really enjoy the most.
I joined Carnival on February 5th, 2023, and it’s been a Great experience. First time working on cruise, adjusting was easy for me as I always loved traveling. It feels like home having a brother working for the same company for the past 7 years so that was a big part that attracted me, and the money is good. The beauty of working with family whilst traveling the world together is thrilling and can’t think of any another career opportunity that gives such a good balance.
I love traveling and as my boss says, ‘you get paid to travel!’ So that is nice, this is my opportunity, so I take it! As a galley attendant you work in the galley, so we do a lot of cleaning, plates, cups everything! In the galley we work as a team to get everything done easily. We have fun - we sing, dance a bit. It helps us get work done fast and the time go quickly.
It was in 2004 and I was reading a newspaper and I saw that Carnival was hiring so I applied. I believe that if you love what you are doing and you are happy with it - success will follow! Onboard I am responsible for the overall cleanliness of the cabin and of course with the proper PPE (personal protective equipment) and procedure. My advice to anyone thinking about applying to Carnival is just show your sincerity and love to your chosen career and success will follow.
What inspired me to join Carnival? Well it’s a cruise ship so it’s where I can increase my knowledge in electrical, tech and automation. I was thinking it was a good opportunity to join a cruise ship. A lot of my friends were talking really highly about the Carnival Family. If you have a passion of electrical work, Carnival is going to give you really good tools to increase your knowledge, to gain a lot of experience in automation, electrical and electronic stuff.

Celebrity Cruises is an award-winning cruise line marked by the iconic ‘X’. It was founded in 1989 with the objective of providing a high-quality, premium cruise experience at an intelligent price for the discerning cruiser.
In 1997, Celebrity Cruises merged with Royal Caribbean International , bringing together two extraordinary cruise brands within one corporation, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd (RCL).
Celebrity Cruises has created a distinctive expression of superior quality - offering grand style, attentive service, enriching and inspiring onboard programmes, spacious accommodations, and exceptional dining. They define the whole experience as ‘modern luxury’.

They pride themselves on offering an exceptional personalised service and have a strong team on board to anticipate guests’ needs and take note of the little details, whether it’s greeting them by name or having chilled towels ready for those returning from a busy shore excursion.
Working for Celebrity Cruises means visiting more than 70 countries in seven continents, interacting with a crew of more than 100 different nationalities, getting competitive pay and extensive holiday time, and having rapid promotion opportunities for ‘star’ performers.

Activities coordinator
Even short cruises are packed with activities for travelers to engage in. Among other things, you'll find games, happy hours and live music.
An activities coordinator is similar to an event planner. In this role, you oversee things like recreation on board and coordinating shore excursion activities. The BLS does not offer wage information for this position.
If you want to start traveling more — and get paid to do it — this can be a good role to consider.

It’s no secret that people on cruises like to drink. Many cruise lines offer a food and alcohol package as part of the booking process.
The amount of money you can make working as a bartender on a cruise ship varies greatly, depending on whether guests are expected to tip. But the average salary for bartenders is $29,380 annually.
Casino dealer
Working as a dealer at a cruise casino can be an exciting gig. These workers may oversee poker, blackjack, roulette, and more games.
Gambling service workers make $31,290 a year. However, as with tending bar, the actual wages for casino workers on a cruise can vary.
Many cruise ships have cafeterias and restaurants for when guests are in the mood for fine dining.
Cruise ship chefs may be involved in cooking and planning menus for guests and staff. Chefs or head cooks make $56,520 on average annually.
Deckhands help maintain the cruise ship. They may be involved in keeping these massive ships running, including cleaning and maintaining equipment, loading cargo, and getting passengers safely on board.
The experience required to work as a deckhand can vary greatly depending on the job description. The BLS does not offer salary information for this position.
Entertainer
Cruise lines hire all sorts of entertainers, from dancers to cover bands and magicians.
Working on a cruise ship can be a great way to hone and improve your craft or even take it in a different direction. The average wage for entertainers and performers is $29.67 an hour, which equates to about $61,713 annually.
7 Things to Do If You’re Barely Scraping by Financially
Entertainment director
Cruise ships also need people to manage their entertainers, particularly if the ship has a lot of shows and performances scheduled.
Entertainment directors may be involved in scheduling staff, planning performances, and doing administrative work. The average salary for entertainment/recreation managers is $67,220 annually.
Fitness instructor
Many cruise ships also offer various fitness classes, including yoga, Zumba, spin, and more.
For qualified instructors, this can be a great way to stay healthy, make money, and travel the world all at the same time. The average fitness instructor makes $45,380 annually.
Hair/makeup artist
On cruise ships, hair and makeup artists may work in spas, providing services to guests looking to get pampered while on board, and may be needed to work with the ship’s performers.
The BLS groups barbers, hairstyles, and cosmetologists together and states an average of $33,400 annual salary for these workers.
6 Clever Ways to Crush Your Debt
Hotel director
Since a cruise ship is essentially a floating hotel, many employees with experience working in hospitality are needed.
Hotel directors ensure that guests are comfortable and enjoy their experience. They may also be involved in planning and coordinating cruise activities.
The average salary for lodging managers is $61,910 annually.
Some cruise ships also hire nurses to provide care to passengers and cruise staff.
The amount of money nurses make on average usually depends on the type of nurse. Registered nurses (RNs) make $81,220 annually. Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) make $54,620 a year.
Massage therapist
Many cruise passengers opt to take advantage of spa services. Massage therapists may work in a spa or travel to guests’ rooms with their equipment to provide massages.
Licensed massage therapists make just under $49,860 annually on average.
9 Things You Must Do Before The Next Recession
Cruise ships also frequently employ security staff to ensure the safety of guests and crew members. These workers may patrol the ship regularly and respond to any issues that come up.
The average salary for security guards is $33,030 annually.
Eating often and well is a big draw for many cruise passengers. Ships often have several restaurants on board and employ experienced servers to staff them.
Pay for these workers can vary, depending on the cruise line’s tipping policy. The average salary for a server in the U.S. is $29,120 annually.
Sales associate
Part of the beauty of the typical cruise ship is that it’s kind of like a floating mall, filled with gift shops and retail stores galore. Ships often need many sales associates to staff these stores.
Again, depending on the cruise line and the job, the pay for these gigs may vary. However, BLS data puts the average salary for a retail sales worker at $30,750 annually.
That’s not huge money, but perhaps it's enough for students to get ahead financially during breaks between school years.
Bottom line
Working as a cruise crew member is certainly not for everyone — lodging for staff can be cramped, days can be long, and you might be away from home for weeks at a time.
But for those looking to tap into a new source of income as they travel, it just may be a win-win situation.

Princess Cruises Wants to Pay You to Test the Casino Food on Its New $1 Billion Ship
'Find a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.'
Alfredo Martinez / Getty Images
Work really doesn't have to be a chore. Just look at Princess Cruises' new dream job as the perfect example.
In April, the cruise launched its newest ship, the $1 billion Sun Princess. To celebrate the launch, it's offering one lucky person an all-expenses-paid trip to test its record-breaking new casino and report back about the experience.
"Picture this: 9,000 square feet of pure entertainment, with 10-foot-high ceilings filled with dazzling lights, and a gaming paradise of 227 slot machines and 13 live table games," the cruise company's dream job website reads. "If that isn’t exciting enough, here’s the kicker – we’re picking up the tab for you to test Princess Cruises’ record-breaking casino at sea!"
The winner of this dream job will get to take a trip worth $8,000 to either St. Thomas or the Bahamas (dependent on the winner’s availability), and be provided with a $500 stipend to spend at the casino, along with an additional $500 for a cruise allowance.
"All that we ask is for you to test out Sun Princess’s grand casino and share your experience with us," the company added, specifically noting it wants the winner to rate the ship's casino on a scale of 0 to 10 based on the following criteria:
Game Variety: Is it a meager selection or a gaming extravaganza? Betting Limits: What are the betting limits across different games, and does the casino cater to various types of gamblers? Atmosphere: Is it bland or a captivating gaming haven? Staff professionalism: The professionalism, friendliness, and efficiency of the casino staff, from dealers to hospitality and security personnel. Support Services: The availability of support services, including cashiers, player’s club desks, and customer service counters. Food and beverages: Are there limited gaming munchies or enough to fuel your gaming ambitions?
Those who think they'd be the best fit for the job can apply now through April 30, 2024, at 12pm GST time. U.K. applicants must be free to travel from June to September, while U.S. and Canadian applicants must be free from October to November. All applicants must be at least 21 years old and have a valid passport. See more about the "job" and apply at casino.org .
