holy fucking shit. i straight up sobbed the entire time non fucking stop. we were lucky to get barrier at the tivoli and tim held hands and sung to a lot of people in front row , including my best friend and my sister. he told us his coming out story , he cried , we cried , we chanted for zoe getting engaged. most fucking emotional thing i’ve ever been through and i spent a long time at that show not being able to breathe. i cried just watching tim sing. the atmosphere was so warm and inclusive , diehard fans and confused teenagers who could understand why tim was scared to come out. the stage was amazing and the like planning for visuals was amazing , especially costumes and the video for lift me up. i will be forcing people to see cub sport no matter where they’re from , something you cannot miss otherwise your life is just gonna be shit. this sounds like the most negative paragraph but i can’t explain how much i have cried in the last few days ( show was on the 6th, it’s the 8th now ), whether it’s seeing me and my bestfriend in the cub sport video from the brisbane show or rewatching videos of the curtain dropping on the built up stage on the stage and everyone screaming . so much about cub sports show was the best thing on this fucking planet and my love for tim , sam , zoe and dan is immeasurable and i cry listening to anything by them now but it’s good crying, PLEASE SEE CUB SPORT

Cub Sport was as amazing this time around, as they were in November. It is so surreal to be that close to a group of people you so love and admire and to actually have them acknowledge you as a person as well and not just as a cash-cow for buying tickets and merchandise from them. Tim usually talks so sweetly about the band and how appreciative they are that you made the trip out, making you feel extra special. After the show, they all take the time to talk to you,(venue, time and crowd size permitting) smile and laugh with you, pose for pictures and even autograph your things! I have been blessed with getting their autographs and taking a picture with them and it's truly something I'll never forget. I hope that they will continue to play at Songbyrd, so that they can maintain that intimate connection with their fans and I will continue to keep going, every time they're in town! I love you Cub Sport!!!

Cub Sport announce dates for their biggest Australian tour yet

Four members of Cub Sport posing together against a brown backdrop, they're all wearing black and neutral toned clothing.

  • X (formerly Twitter)

Brisbane queer pop icons  Cub Sport have announced their biggest Australian tour to date which will see them hit six dates across the country over the shift into spring.

They'll be kicking off their national tour in Adelaide on August 18 before heading west to Perth. The four-piece will then come back over east to Sydney, up to Cairns and then down the east coast to Brisbane before winding up in Melbourne on September 8.

A promotional poster showing Cub Sport's Tim Nelson performing live with the band's graphics and tour dates below.

Cub Sport will be hot off their tours in North America and UK so it'll be a huge homecoming for the Brisbane darlings.

The big announcement comes ahead of the band's fifth studio album Jesus At The Gay Bar , which is slated to land on Good Friday (April 7).

Friday is going to be very good indeed for the Cub Sport family, with the new album exploring the band as they reach a point of ecstatic euphoria following four albums and more than a decade of documenting the unlearning of shame and embracing of pure, unbridled joy.

Vocalist Tim Nelson explained the drive behind the new album in a recent TikTok  and how a piece by UK poet Jay Hulme became the main inspo for the record.

"The album is called Jesus At The Gay Bar and it's named after a poem of the same name," he said.

"It basically tells the story of Jesus being at a gay bar and a boy comes up to him on the dancefloor and asks to be healed of his gayness. And Jesus tells him 'my child there's nothing in this heart of yours that ever needs to be healed'.

"For anyone who is queer and grew up in the church like I did, that poem just, like, ruined me."

"I feel like the whole discography has been like this journey of, like, unlearning everything that I was told growing up and learning to accept my queerness and to celebrate it," Tim continued.

"I feel like this album is like the celebration of getting to the point that I'm at."

Tickets for Cub Sport's Australian tour are on sale from 9am AEST on Thursday 6 April, and you can check out all the tour dates and details below.

Cub Sport Announce Headline Tour Behind New Album ‘Jesus at the Gay Bar’

Pop favourites Cub Sport will head out on a national tour in support of their new album Jesus At The Gay Bar, which lands this Friday, 7th April. The tour will be the band’s biggest run yet, playing theatres in all major cities across August and September.

The Brisbane four-piece will spend the next few months on tour across the UK and North America, having unofficially kicked off the tour with a secret warehouse party in Melbourne last weekend .

Cub Sport: ‘Replay’

Jesus At The Gay Bar, which is being released on Good Friday, is the follow-up to 2020’s Like Nirvana. In a recent Instagram post , the band revealed some of the homophobic abuse that had been levelled at them since the announcement of the album.

“I’ve chosen not to include some comments because they were seriously scary and violent,” the band wrote. “I’m fully aware that the name and release date of our new album Jesus At The Gay Bar could be read as provocative/controversial and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like that. But to me, the name of this album and the statement of releasing on Good Friday isn’t flippant.”

“This name and imagery is really significant for me in coming to a place of peace with myself, my sexuality and also peace with feeling acceptance of who I believe Jesus to be (now) after the torment of growing up in the church.”

They went on to say the album could be “really powerful and healing” for other people who have “walked a similar path”. “For the record, I’m not worried about judgement day,” the finished. “There is nothing in this heart of mine that ever needs to be healed.”

We’ve heard a number of singles from the album so far, including ‘Keep Me Safe’, ‘Always Got the Love’, and ‘Replay’.

Cub Sport announce Australian tour in support of ‘Jesus At The Gay Bar’

The band’s fifth album was released today

Tim Nelson of Cub Sport. Credit: FilmMagic

Cub Sport have announced a national headline tour in support of their just-released fifth album, ‘Jesus At The Gay Bar’, with six dates on the itinerary for August and September.

  • READ MORE: Cub Sport’s Tim Nelson talks new album ‘Jesus At The Gay Bar’ and “euphoric but complicated” single ‘Keep Me Safe’

The tour will kick off with back-to-back shows in Adelaide and Perth, where Cub Sport will perform respectively at the Hindley Street Music Hall on Friday August 18, and the Astor Theatre on Saturday 19. They’ll take to Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on the following Thursday night (August 24), before hitting the stage at Tanks in Cairns a week later (August 31).

Rounding things out will be a Brisbane show at the Fortitude Music Hall on Saturday September 2, then a show at The Forum in Melbourne on Friday September 8. Tickets for all six of the shows are on sale now – find them here for the Brisbane date, and here for all the others.

‘Jesus At The Gay Bar’ was released independently today (April 7) on the back of four singles: ‘Always Got The Love’ and ‘Replay’ last June and November, respectively, followed by ‘Keep Me Safe’ back in January and ‘Songs About It’ last month.

Speaking to NME upon the album’s announcement , frontman Tim Nelson declared ‘Jesus At The Gay Bar’ to be Cub Sport’s most euphoric effort, embracing the optimism he felt after making an album of “pure catharsis” with its predecessor, 2020’s ‘Like Nirvana’. “My vision for [‘Like Nirvana’] was kind of what this album ended up being,” he said.

“I wanted that [album] to feel light and celebratory, but I don’t think I was there yet. There were so many roadblocks and things I needed to acknowledge for myself before I could have this kind of moment. So it’s really cool for me, listening to these new songs and feeling like I’ve captured some joy – it’s something new for me and my process.”

‘Jesus At The Gay Bar’ was spotlit by NME in a roundup of the best Australian releases for April , where it was described as “a record of liberation and catharsis”, with “slow-burning songs like ‘Keep Me Safe’ anchor[ing] the record in a realm of heartrending poignancy”.

Cub Sport’s ‘Jesus At The Gay Bar’ tour dates are:

NHL playoffs bracket 2024: What are the second round series in Stanley Cup playoffs?

T he first round of the NHL playoffs is (nearly) complete, but good news hockey fans: We still have three more rounds of postseason goodness before the Stanley Cup is awarded.

And we get a pair of Game 7s in the first round after it looked like we were due for a bunch of short series. The Boston Bruins defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs in overtime Saturday night in the first Game 7. A Sunday showdown in Dallas between the defending champion Vegas Golden Knights and the top-seeded Stars will determine the final entrant to the second round .

Here's the quick scoop on every second round series in the NHL playoffs:

From NFL plays to college sports scores, all the top sports news you need to know every day.

Eastern Conference

New york rangers (metro 1) vs. carolina hurricanes (metro 2).

First round: Rangers defeated Washington Capitals 4-0; Hurricanes defeated New York Islanders 4-1

The Rangers cast aside the Capitals with ease, earning their first sweep since 2007. The Hurricanes needed just five games to dispatch the Islanders after dropping Game 4 in double overtime. Their tune-up matchups now out of the way, the two best teams in the Eastern Conference this season square off in a heavyweight showdown. These teams mirror each other in so many ways: the Rangers scored 282 goals this season (sixth in league), while the Hurricanes put up 279 (seventh); the Rangers gave up 229 goals (seventh), while the Hurricanes yielded 216 (fourth); and both squads boast top-three units on both the power play and penalty kill. The Rangers probably have more gamebreakers but you could also argue the Hurricanes have better depth. This one may go the distance.

Florida Panthers (Atlantic 1) vs. Boston Bruins (Atlantic 2)

First round: Panthers defeated Tampa Bay Lightning 4-1; Bruins defeated Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3

This is a rematch of last year's shocking first-round series , which saw the Panthers complete a comeback from 3-1 down to knock off the record-setting Bruins in overtime of Game 7. But the shoe is on the other foot this time around. It is the Panthers who are the higher-seeded team with greater expectations to win. Both teams come into this matchup riding high. The Panthers finally took down the big brother Tampa Bay Lightning in their third playoff meeting. The big guns for Florida shined with Matthew Tkachuk, Carter Verhaeghe and Aleksander Barkov combining for 23 points in the Panthers' five-game series win. The Bruins also looked poised for a short series after Boston jumped out to a 3-1 series lead. But the Maple Leafs fought back, taking a pair of 2-1 decisions to force Game 7 in Boston. The Bruins pulled it out in the end, winning Game 7 in overtime on a goal by David Pastrnak.

Western Conference

Dallas stars (central 1) vs. colorado avalanche (central 3).

First round: Stars defeated Vegas Golden Knights 4-3; Avalanche defeated Winnipeg Jets 4-1

The Avs reminded everyone in their first round series that they're one of the most talented teams in the league. The 2022 Stanley Cup champs poured in an astounding 28 goals in just five games ... against a Jets squad that entered with the NHL's best defense and the likely Vezina Trophy winner in net. Dallas knocked out the defending champions after losing the first two games at home. Jake Oettinger had a 4.74 goals-against average and .863 save percentage during the regular season against Colorado while Alexandar Georgiev was 3.51, .892 vs. Dallas.

Vancouver Canucks (Pacific 1) vs. Edmonton Oilers (Pacific 2)

First round: Canucks defeated Nashville Predators 4-2; Oilers defeated Los Angeles Kings 4-1

The Canucks were forced to turn to their third-string goalie and their first-round series against the Predators turned into a bit of a grind. But dramatic wins on the road in Games 4 and 6 helped Vancouver earn its first playoff series win with fans actually in the building since its Stanley Cup Final run in 2011 (the Canucks reached the second round in the 2020 bubble). The Oilers took out the Kings in the first round for the third consecutive year, finding multiple ways to win. The stars showed up in a big way: Connor McDavid scored just one goal ... but dished out 11 assists; Leon Draisaitl had five goals and five assists; defenseman Evan Bouchard put up nine points; and Zach Hyman scored seven goals.

2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson odds, field: Surprising PGA picks, predictions from model that's nailed 11 majors

Sportsline's proven model simulated the cj cup byron nelson 2024 10,000 times and revealed its pga golf picks.

jason-day-usatsi.jpg

The PGA Championship is just a few weeks away, so many of the big names in golf are sitting out of the 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson, which begins Thursday at 7:45 a.m. ET. However, with golfers like Jordan Spieth and Jason Day in the 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson field, there are still plenty of reasons to be excited about the TPC Craig Ranch-hosted event. Spieth is the 12-1 favorite in the 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson odds, followed by Day (18-1), who is the defending champion. Si Woo Kim is third on the odds board at 22-1, while Sungjae Im, Alex Noren and Adam Scott are each in the next tier of 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson contenders at 25-1.

Spieth has finished second and ninth in his two professional starts at TPC Craig Ranch, so is he a golfer that you should target with your 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson bets? Before making any 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine .

SportsLine's proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up more than $9,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model correctly predicted Scottie Scheffler would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2024 Masters, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Players Championship, and the RBC Heritage this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit at +9000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,000.

The model also predicted Jon Rahm would be victorious at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, McClure's best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 11 majors entering the weekend and hit the Masters three straight years. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the CJ Cup Byron Nelson 2024 field is finalized, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard .

Top 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson 2024: Day, the defending champion and one of the top favorites, stumbles and barely cracks the top five. Day got off to a hot start this season when he posted three top-10 finishes in his first five tournaments, but he has struggled since then. He has finished outside the top 15 in his last five events, including a missed cut at the Texas Children's Houston Open at the end of March.

Day ranks 183rd on the PGA Tour in approach shots from more than 200 yards, which will be a shot that he has to take throughout this tournament. He is also ranked 133rd in green in regulation percentage (63.62%) and 152nd in strokes gained: approach to green (-0.380). Day is not in strong form right now, so the model is looking elsewhere with its pick to win this tournament.

Another surprise: Maverick McNealy, a 50-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. The former No. 1 ranked golfer in the World Amateur Golf Ranking is still seeking his first win on the PGA Tour.

He is off to a strong start in 2024 though, making the cut in nine of his 11 events while posting a pair of top-10 finishes. McNealy finished T6 in the WM Phoenix Open in February, T13 in the Mexico Open and T9 in The Players Championship, which was the best result of his career. Despite his hot start to the year, he is still flying under the radar due to his lack of victories, making him an excellent longshot pick against a weaker field this weekend.  See who else to pick here .

How to make 2024 CJ Cup Byron Nelson picks

The model is also targeting three other golfers with odds of 28-1 or longer to make a strong run at the title. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model's picks here .

Rory McIlroy celebrates winning the Zurich Classic with Shane Lowry on Sunday.

Shunning Rory McIlroy would represent epic embarrassment for PGA Tour

Ewan Murray

World No 2 basically auditioning for acceptance to return to policy board is faintly ludicrous in increasingly fractured sport

T he most unpalatable and unlikely scenario could be a necessary one. Rory McIlroy to LIV has been rumoured, slapped down, rumoured and slapped down. Yet as the PGA Tour procrastinates over completion of a deal with the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, and even the formal involvement of McIlroy himself, one wonders if it may take something nuclear to allow golf to wake up to the haplessness of its present, fractured state. Should McIlroy sign for golf’s rebel tour the establishment would be sent into a level of frenzy so serious that collaboration between the PGA Tour, LIV and the PIF would surely transpire in a heartbeat.

There is no suggestion this will happen. Still, Greg Norman knew precisely what he was doing in recent days. “If Rory was willing to sit down and have a conversation with us, would we be happy to sit down with him?” Norman said. “100%.” McIlroy is not actually the PGA Tour’s main concern. The live prospect of LIV continuing a talent drain on established tours into 2025 should be the prime cause for fear. While not McIlroy, it could be Viktor Hovland . If not Hovland, it could be Tommy Fleetwood. The PGA Tour and its marquee events are being materially harmed by golf’s lack of compatibility. This will continue to be the case while the PGA Tour wanders aimlessly on one path and LIV confidently on another.

A Monday morning conference call will determine whether or not McIlroy will make a return to the PGA Tour’s policy board and become a director of the recently established PGA Tour Enterprises. This vote should have taken place on Wednesday. It is a telling indicator of the corporate muddle that McIlroy – not the most famous individual in golf but surely the most influential – was not immediately welcomed with open arms. It is faintly ludicrous that the world No 2 and a proper needle-mover in golf has to hang around and audition for acceptance. The 34-year-old has connections across business and golf that should render a role for him a complete no-brainer. Yasir al-Rumayyan, the governor of the PIF, will take McIlroy’s call; a courtesy unlikely to given to others not named Tiger Woods.

The only assumption to be drawn from the needless delay is that there are those who are hardly impressed by McIlroy stepping back into prominence. The Northern Irishman has been candid about his desire for a global game, where the best play the best in all corners of the globe. If top-level golf was created today, this is precisely the model that would be followed. Yet for too long – and still now – people involved in the PGA Tour are obsessed only by the PGA Tour. It is an insular standpoint which, combined with Saudi riches, has left the organisation forced into a commercial partnership with a group of US-based sports owners to keep heads above water. Even with that agreement in place the PGA Tour’s medium-term outlook, with $20m events not nearly enough people care about, isn’t positive.

Rory McIlroy squints

As the sport loses eyeballs, players have become overly empowered. Golfers would never ask commercial types to line up putts for them but seem to believe they are qualified to make business calls. This is the reason a group of directors did not instantly tick a box and return McIlroy to the fold. Among them is Patrick Cantlay. McIlroy has already been plain about the fact he and the world No 8 “see the world quite differently”. Which is fine. In fact, it is perhaps essential in a boardroom.

Nobody knows precisely what Cantlay wants because he has passed up countless opportunities to articulate it. At Sawgrass, immediately before he joined a trip to the Bahamas to meet Rumayyan, Cantlay was so vague in response to questions about his sport’s future that it was tricky to keep eyes open while listening. A day after McIlroy’s potential reappearance was reported, Cantlay was on the interview schedule at the Zurich Classic. By total coincidence, Cantlay’s practice schedule meant he was not able to appear for questioning.

Woods is intriguing in this situation. It is only fair to believe fellow professionals who state the 15-time major winner takes his board position seriously, despite this being an individual who has had others basically wiping his backside since he shot to worldwide fame. Woods had no previous requirement to study spreadsheets. Despite not being a board member at the time, Woods was upset at having no prior knowledge of the 6 June framework agreement announced between the PGA Tour and PIF. This resentment seems to have lingered. If anyone had cause for anger, it was McIlroy; he earlier did so much of the PGA Tour’s public bidding against LIV. Rather than sulk, McIlroy wants to be a force for greater good.

JUST A SMALL TOWN GIRL pic.twitter.com/NefSbCQjAk — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) April 29, 2024

The bigger issue is that Woods’s entire legacy is wrapped up in the PGA Tour. He needs the PGA Tour, above or even at the cost of all else, to thrive and prosper. If the shape of elite golf changes it would only be natural for Woods to ponder how his achievements may be viewed decades from now. Like Cantlay, though, Woods has been hopelessly opaque when placed behind a microphone.

There are other reasons for McIlroy to be involved. If the PGA Tour wants to present itself as an upwardly mobile organisation, it surely cannot operate without European presence in its decision making. There is scepticism about the value of a strategic alliance between the PGA and DP World Tour; that is only enhanced by such a US-centric boardroom.

A conference call on Monday will determine the next step. Shunning McIlroy would represent an epic embarrassment. Whether the four-time major winner is back to front and centre, this must also be the trigger for others on the PGA Tour to finally display the courage of their convictions. Minus McIlroy, golf is sleepwalking.
