Curtis Grimes is amazing! Beautiful voice and one of the most down-to-earth people I've ever met. Had the pleasure of him crashing our wedding and seeing him live and having a guitar signed personally by him. Such a great heart and voice. He is a must-see!

Had a great time, music was awesome and had great time dancing. Could have had more seating in the venue so i could rest from dancing :). Would be great to have an outdoor summer concert with Curtis Grimes.

Always love seeing Curtis perform! Awesome show, as always! We have been enjoying his south Texas shows since May 15, 2015, and even tho his band members have changed multiple times over the past 3 years, he continues to perform at his best every show. Amazing young man with a great talent!

With over 50 million digital streams, over 100,000 albums sold, sixteen #1 singles on the Texas Country Music Chart and a #1 song on the national Power Source Christian Country Music Chart, Curtis Grimes has proven to be a force in the country music industry that can’t be denied.

To hear Grimes sing is to take a trip through the heart of country music. As a Texas native, he was raised on a steady diet of Alan Jackson and George Strait. He possesses the everyman charm of both influences along with a refreshingly mature voice that truly stands out. After a childhood filled with playing baseball and eventually earning a Division I scholarship, Grimes was given the opportunity to appear on the hit reality TV show “The Voice” in 2011. Under direction of coach CeeLo Green, he ended up finishing as a coveted Top 8 finalist of Season One.

Following success from the show, Grimes hit the ground running and released new music while performing shows across the United States. In 2014, Grimes and his hit single “Home to Me” were picked up by the salon chain “Supercuts” and placed in the mainstream spotlight. Not only was the song featured across the country, but Grimes also got to put on his acting boots and star in the national television commercial. That same year Grimes started to see his hard work pay off when he was awarded “New Male Vocalist of the Year” at the annual Texas Regional Radio Awards.

In 2019, Grimes was named “Entertainer of the Year” at the TCMA Awards Show hosted by the Texas Country Music Association. He also received the honor of “Christian Country Song of the Year” for the second year in a row! In 2020, Grimes took home the “Christian Country Artist of the Year” award along with “Country Single of the Year” for “River Road Dream”, a song co-written with Trent Willmon.

Like thousands of guys, Curtis Grimes started singing sad songs after he broke up with his gal. But unlike most of them, Grimes was good enough to make a living off his music after he got over his heartbreak. Born in 1986 in Gilmer, Texas, Grimes was a star athlete in high school, and as pitcher with their baseball team, he helped take his team to the state championships. A strong student as well as a star on the diamond, Grimes won a scholarship to Centenary College in Louisiana, but after splitting up with his fiancée, he set aside both baseball and academics for a while. As he sorted out his feelings, Grimes began toying with his roommate's guitar, and soon he bought his own six-string from a pawn shop and began playing in earnest. Grimes resumed his academic career at Texas State University in San Marcos, but he brought that guitar with him, and began playing and singing for friends at parties. Grimes received positive feedback from his friends, and moved up to playing local bars and frat parties. Grimes was working often enough that he formed a band, and after winning a contest that earned him an opening slot at a Kenny Chesney concert in Austin, he decided it was time to make music a full-time job. Grimes began playing the country circuit in Texas and Oklahoma, and 2009 saw the release of Grimes' first album, a self-released effort titled Lonely River. Grimes got a taste of national exposure in 2011, when he was chosen to compete on the popular television talent competition The Voice. Grimes auditioned with Blake Shelton's hit "Hillbilly Bone." Shelton, who was one of the judges, didn't bite, but Cee Lo Green was impressed, and became Grimes' coach for his eight-week run on the show, which took him to the quarterfinals. As The Voice increased Grimes' visibility, he released a seven-song EP, 2011's Doin' My Time, and continued to tour regularly. In 2014, Grimes unveiled his second full-length album, Our Side of the Fence, while the 2015 EP Bottom of the Fifth saw Grimes making his way onto the Billboard Independent Albums chart, peaking at 29. (The title song also topped the Texas Regional Radio chart, as did the tunes "Baby Don't Cry," "Our Side of the Fence," and "The Cowboy Kind.") In November 2016, Grimes dropped another full-length effort, Undeniably Country; the first single from the album, "From Where I'm Standing," became another Texas radio hit. ~ Mark Deming

Exclusive Premiere: Curtis Grimes’ “Cowboy Constitution”

We first interviewed Curtis Grimes last fall and we immediately loved his songs and the fact that he’s so strong in his faith and willing to share that with the world. We’re incredibly excited to premiere “Cowboy Constitution” from his self-titled album, releasing tomorrow. Fans have already been getting a taste of what the singer has in store with five singles from the upcoming record snagging #1 spots on Texas Regional Radio charts.

As Grimes prepares for a highly-anticipated release, he’s not letting up when it comes to impressing listeners both old and new alike: “ Friends” reached Number One recently, and we expect more success with the upcoming singles.

Curtis Grimes: “Cowboy Constitution”

Written with Ronny Vines, “Cowboy Constitution” describes the cowboy way of life and the code that they abide by in order to do what’s right. Being a gentleman, having respect, and being grateful what you have — it’s a state of mind.

Grimes is a huge rodeo fan and a fan of that lifestyle, which inspired him to write this song. “I always enjoyed being around that environment,” he said, adding that his first job was a ranch hand.

When Vines came to him with the start of a song, he was ecstatic. “I just kind of picked it up and ran with it,” he shared. The song also tells a story of a grandfather giving advice and passing it down to his son. It’s a way of life that’s passed down from generation to generation. “I always say this is one that I wrote for my boy, but there’s a lot more to it than just that,” he said, thinking of his grandfather as well.

Self-Titled Album

Grimes’ process for making the album differed than what he’d done in the past. Previously, he would write a bunch of songs all at once and select the ones that would make the album. This time, he wrote the songs in groups of four and eventually narrowed them down to ten. He also structured the vinyl and cassette in a way that one side is more uptempo and the other contains ballads.

Additionally, he released half the album as singles before putting out the album as a whole.

Faith-Based Country

You may have noticed that Grimes weaves his faith throughout his songs and performances. He strives to put out uplifting, positive songs and experiences at his shows. He even started 10 Finger Ministry , where people can request a free Bible. They’ve given out over 6,000 Bibles in three years!

Grimes’ music career began with more secular topics to his songs with a partying and drinking lifestyle, found in a lot of country music today. He reflected on his songs’ topics, and felt like they didn’t match the artist he needed to be.

A few things went into his decision, including the fact that his athletic director’s daughter was killed by a drunk driver. Grimes wondered how he’d feel if the driver had been listening to his song and questioned whether this was how he wanted to move forward.

He decided to use his platform for good and positivity, which resonated with fans and Texas radio alike. Grimes shared, “We have the opportunity to, every Friday and Saturday night, reach the people that might need that hope, that just might need someone shining a light in a dark place.”

Newest Radio Single: “Noah Built a Boat”

Grimes’ newest radio single “Noah Built a Boat,” is a song with a message of hope. He was approached with the song and the catchy hook resonated with him. However, he wanted to take things a step further and add in more faith-based elements. Ultimately, the song is about staying true to God’s will.

“In four short years, Curtis Grimes has been a star college baseball pitcher, chased his dream of being a singer / songwriter, played hundreds of concerts all over Texas and the southwestern United States, and performed in front of millions on television.

Grimes, a 25 year old from Gilmer, Texas, was an academic scholar and athlete at Harmony High School where he was an All-State pitcher and member of the 2003 state qualifying baseball team. Following graduation he accepted academic and baseball scholarships to Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana.

After a break up with his then fiancé, he started playing guitar and developed an interest in songwriting, teaching himself how to play on a used guitar that he purchased at a pawn shop. Grimes then headed down I35 with plans of finishing his degree at Texas State University in San Marcos. While there he fell under the influence of the Texas Country music scene. With legendary venues so close, he was able to follow the Texas Country artists he looked up to.

After playing for friends and relatives at gatherings and parties, Grimes was hooked by the entertainment bug. He started playing acoustic shows at a couple of small venues, bars, and fraternity parties.

Things definitely picked up for after he won the Austin leg of Kenny Chesney’s The Next Big Star contest, getting the opportunity to open for Chesney at the Frank Erwin Center during his Poets and Pirates tour. Chesney also invited Curtis on stage for his encore.

Grimes continued to perform all over Texas and had the opportunity to play with artists such as Jack Ingram, Justin Moore, Eli Young Band, Leann Rimes, Josh Abbott, and Kevin Fowler to name a few.

In 2011, Grimes was asked to audition for the NBC Television show “The Voice”. He was then invited to Los Angeles to participate on the show and made it to the quarterfinals. The show, which was watched by over 15 million viewers during each episode, has opened even more doors for Curtis and he plans on taking advantage of every one of them.

Grimes has extended his fan base as a regular fixture on the Texas music scene.
