there is no way half an hour is enough time, I can’t comprehend why you think it might be. When does the gate close for your international flight ? Will you have checked bags?

i wouldn’t even be comfortable with four hours on separate tickets with a long haul flight at stake.

I’d fly to IST the night before.

If you're booking a separate flight that arrives 30 minutes before your flight home, that's way too short. Your flight will probably be boarding by that point. Do you have luggage to check?

Yeah I see what you mean on they will be boarding and if we are delayed in AYT at all we are stuck.

Will have to do a 4 hr layover unless I can find another airline that flys AYT to IST, so far not. Only Pegasus but into SAW. Geez flying on miles is harder every year. may have to scrap it any go next year and hope they open up seats in Turkishairlines for the internal flight .

No luggage to check we are super light travelers

Istanbul International Airport

Istanbul International Airport (IST)

The world’s biggest airport, istanbul airport, takes off.

Istanbul Airport is the new airport in the city and is considered a huge achievement of the Turkish Government. Added to the two already existing airports of Istanbul (Ataturk Airport and Sabiha Gokcen International Airport), the new aviation hub has undertaken all the Ataturk Airport’s passenger flights from 10/29/18 and is expected to host more than 200 million passengers by 2025.

Istanbul Airport is located in the Çatalca- Göktürk-Arnavutköy area, on the European side of the city, 40km/24.8 miles from Taksim and 52km/32.3 miles from Kadıköy. Set in the middle between Tayakadin and Akpinar village, it serves more than 350 domestic and international destinations in 110 countries, while its duty-free area is one of the largest (if not the largest) worldwide. For the time being, only one terminal is functional, four runways (out of the 6 in total when the project will be utterly completed) are in operation, and five concourses are home to the numerous airlines that fly from and to the airport. Last but not least, the services and facilities provided at the airport are one-of-a-kind, and of course, cutting-edge technology is applied all over the environmentally-friendly airport.

All in all, Istanbul Airport, fully functional from 04/06/19 despite the construction not being finished yet, has already become a major transportation hub connecting three continents, Europe, Asia, and Africa, and will be developed into an even more significant aviation center as time goes by.

Transportation

Airport guide.

Airport Name: Istanbul International Airport IATA Code: IST ICAO: LTFM Location: Arnavutköy, Istanbul Turkey Time Zone: TRT Turkey Time (UTC+3) Airport Map: Istanbul Airport at Google Maps

Istanbul Airport’s Layout

For the moment, Istanbul International Airport has only one terminal building , but it is the biggest terminal building under one roof worldwide. The impressive terminal is considered an actual masterpiece, split over two areas: Departures and Arrivals. It has 5 piers, out of which four (Piers A, B, D, and F) serve the international boarding gates, and the fifth (Pier G), as well as 3 boarding areas of Pier F, serve the domestic destinations. Once the airport is entirely completed, it is expected to consist of 4 terminal buildings.

Although Istanbul airport’s one and only terminal is, without a doubt, impressive, it features one main disadvantage: it has only one security control area for domestic flights and another one for flights to international destinations. This fact, added to the enormous size of the terminal, makes the airport procedures tedious and time-consuming. What’s more, the distances from the IST terminal’s central area to the boarding areas are considerable.

IST Airlines

The new and impressive Istanbul International Airport serves flights from and to over 350 destinations. Verily, it is well-connected to a number of cities in Turkey as well as to international and even intercontinental destinations. Thus, it is hardly surprising that it houses a wide array of airlines , from local and low-cost air carriers to international or conventional providers. As a matter of fact, Istanbul Airport is the hub for the flag carrier of Turkey. Hence, Turkish Airlines and Turkish Cargo use the airport as a base for operations.

Parking Facilities

The parking facilities of Istanbul International Airport are spread over 5 blocks. Therefore, it is undoubted that IST Airport can fully accommodate its passengers’ parking needs as it is equipped with 40000 parking spots in total. Hence, the Green Car Park, the Yellow Car Park, the Blue Car Park, the Red Car Park, and the Turquoise Car Park are to be found inside the airport premises, fairly close to the terminal building. All the parking lots can be used for short-term parking and for longer stays as well.

Transit Options

Passengers find various transit options for their journey from IST Airport to their final destination. As a matter of fact, travelers who want to get from Istanbul Airport to the city center can choose one of the following options for their transit:

  • an airport taxi
  • an Istanbul airport transfer
  • a car rental
  • a Havaist bus
  • the Istanbul Metro Line M11

Services and Amenities

The brand-new Istanbul Airport is a modern aviation hub, providing its passengers with all the anticipated services and amenities. In detail, some of the main services available at IST Airport are:

  • Numerous retail stores and extensive duty-free area
  • Restaurants / Bars
  • Baggage wrapping / Luggage storage
  • Pharmacies /Medical services
  • Banks / ATMs / Currency exchange areas
  • Family services / Playground
  • Lost & Found offices
  • Prayer rooms
  • Art galleries
  • Business Center
  • Lounges / Spa facilities
  • Airport hotel
  • Pet rooms / Pet relief areas
  • Travel agencies and tour operators
  • Information kiosks
  • Special services and amenities for passengers with disabilities

The City of Istanbul

Istanbul is a colorful blend of two diametrically opposite worldviews (the East and the West), actually standing at the borders of Europe and Asia. With its Byzantine and Ottoman legacy visible everywhere in the city, Istanbul’s attractions have a unique vibe. Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Topkapi Palace, and the Galata Tower usually leave their visitors mesmerized after their visit. On the other hand, the “shop till you drop” mentality is always welcomed in Istanbul, where apart from the numerous retail stores, the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Bazaar initiate travelers to the eastern market’s philosophy. Moreover, the city is surrounded by the beautiful Bosphorus. Verily, Bosphorus cruises are regarded as one of the top experiences in Istanbul. At the same time, amid its traditional character, Istanbul is a modern city with vibrant nightlife and a fusion gastronomic scene.

Has the new Istanbul Airport opened?

Istanbul Airport was officially inaugurated on 10/29/18, coinciding with the 95th anniversary of the proclamation of the Turkish Republic. The first flight took off on 10/31/18, while from 04/06/19, all the passenger flights from Istanbul Ataturk Airport moved to the new airport. Despite not reaching its full capacity, Istanbul Airport is already fully operational.

Is Istanbul Ataturk Airport closing?

Which is the main airport in istanbul.

The brand new Istanbul Airport (IST, IGA) is the main airport in the city. Located on the European side of Istanbul, in the Arnavutköy area, Istanbul Airport has undertaken all the passenger flights from Ataturk Airport which now provides only cargo and general aviation services. The second, “minor” airport of the city, Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, is located on the Asian side.

What are the transportation options from Istanbul Airport?

The impressive new Istanbul Airport has a competent transportation system which in its final form will provide safe, multimodal transfer options to Istanbul city center . For the moment, Istanbul airport buses run from and to the airport with a ticket ranging from 15.33₺-85₺ (0.84€-4.66€/080.$-4.60$) while Istanbul airport taxis are available around the clock reaching the city center in about 50 minutes with an average tariff of 310₺ (17€/16.90$). The new Metro Line M11 also serves Istanbul Airport while a high-speed train is going to connect the new landing field to the “old” Sabiha Gökçen Airport.

How many terminals does Istanbul Airport have?

Currently, Istanbul Airport has only one main terminal. However, in the long term, three more terminals, possibly smaller, are planned to be added to the airport complex.

Is Istanbul new airport the biggest in the world?

New Istanbul Airport (IST)

Last Updated on September 1, 2022

Istanbul Airport (IST) Walkthrough - 5 Things You Need to Know

Istanbul's new mega-airport, named at first—creatively— Istanbul Airport (ISL), was inaugurated on   Republic Day , October 29th, 2018 .

At its inauguration, the airport's first phase was not yet complete, so a limited number of flights (five daily) were scheduled. The transfer of all operations from Istanbul's Atatürk Airport are now completed and the new Istanbul Airport (IST) is in full swing.

To be clear, when the new Istanbul Airport took over from the older Atatürk Airport, the new airport assumed the IATA code IST  from the old airport.

I have no doubt that the new airport will continue to improve and facilitate Istanbul's rising position as a major world air transport hub. But if you are flying to Istanbul during 2019, you can now be assured that you know which airport your flights will use, Istanbul Airport (IST).

Full airport construction will not be completely finished for years. The new terminal facility, all under one roof, has an initial capacity of 90 million travelers annually. When construction is complete (estimated for 2028), capacity is planned to be 150 million passengers—more than the 100 million passengers currently served by Paris 's three airports.

Fog  may be a problem because of the airport's low elevation (60 meters above sea level). And the amount and composition of the immense amount of  landfill used may not be optimal for the location, leading to the development of sinkholes.

Ground Transport

The new airport is  50 km (31 miles)  northwest of  Sultanahmet , the heart of  historic Istanbul ,  a trip of less than an hour  by car/taxi at present depending upon traffic.

Airport Buses

İstanbul Otobüs A. Ş.,  a company associated with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, operates an airport bus service named  Havaİst  serving the new Istanbul Airport.

The bus service is currently serving flights using the airport. Frequency of service will be increased as flights to the new airport increase.

The trip to/from  Taksim Square  takes 70 minutes and costs TL18; to/from  Yenikapı , 75 minutes and TL18; to/from the  Esenler Bus Terminal , 70 minutes and TL16. However, according to the company's website, payment of fares is currently only possible with an  IstanbulKart .  More...

Private Transfer

More comfortable and reliable than a  taxi , and not much more expensive, a good private transfer service is recommended for any traveler, and especially for couples with several pieces of luggage each, or any traveling party of three or more. ( Read about Istanbul taxis  here .)

Efendi Travel , a  TurkeyTravelPlanner.com  partner, operates a time-tested transfer service with  high value-for-money . The fare for up to four passengers between Istanbul Airport and the city center is  45 euros  single/one-way,  81 euros  return/round-trip. Note that this is the fare for the  entire vehicle,  not per-passenger. (The ride in a taxi should cost about 35 euros— if  the driver takes the shortest route....)  More...

Efendi Travel  also provides transfer services between  Sabiha Gökçen Airport  and the city center, and between cruise ship ports and main attractions, as well as all other travel agency services such as tickets, hotels, car rental/hire and tours.  More...

Uber & Lyft

App-ride services such as Uber have had a difficult time entering the Istanbul transportation market because of resistance (sometimes violent) from Istanbul taxi drivers .

I have not found Uber service to be practical for the new Istanbul Airport (IST) or for anywhere in the city for that matter. Currently when you arrange an "Uber" ride from the new airport to the city center, the Uber website will offer you...a traditional Istanbul taxi instead of an Uber car. You might even have a normal yellow taxi try to pick you up while you are waiting for the "Uber Yellow Taxi". So, for now I am not recommending an Uber experience in Turkey.

Two  new  Metro  lines  are being built to connect the airport to the city center: one from  Gayrettepe  ( map ), scheduled for completion in 2020; and one from  Halkalı , Istanbul's new western train station.

Yotel  advertises a new hotel right in the airport terminal, with access from both the general and secure ("airside") areas of the terminal.  More...

If you are required to have a visa to enter Turkey, you should already have  bought it online  through the excellent  e-visa website . If you arrive without a visa, you  may  be able to buy one at a machine in the Arrivals area—but why take the chance? Without a visa, you may be refused entry.  More...

Duty Free Shopping Upon Arrival

If you arrive from another country, you can  buy duty-free goods  at shops in the baggage claim area, then take them right into Turkey. The  prices  here used to be better than at European or North American airports, but now I'm not so sure. But even if the prices are the same or higher, you save yourself the trouble of having to carry the goods all the way to Turkey.

Currency Exchange

Currency exchange offices   (döviz bürosu)  are available after passport control in the baggage claim area, and in the Departures area, of the International terminal.  Exchange rates here are  very poor : you'll pay a lot for your  Turkish money . You may want to exchange for  Turkish liras  only enough of your money to provide for your  transport  and  tipping  needs until you can find an  exchange office with better rates.  More...

Lots of  automated teller machines  (ATMs, Cashpoints, etc.) are located outside the secure Customs area, after baggage claim.

Departures/Security

As at all Turkish airports, you will have to pass through a  complete   security check   just to enter the terminal (International or Domestic), then a second full security check in the gate area.

Here's  info on transport to/from the airport .

International Terminal

The modern  International Terminal   Dış Hatlar Terminalı)  is spacious and efficient, with all the expected services including  ATMs  (cash machines) from which you can obtain  Turkish Liras ,  currency exchange offices ; shops, restaurants and cafés with surprisingly high prices;  Emanet  (Baggage Check, Left Luggage ) and an  Airport Hotel .

High Food & Drink Prices

Note that  prices for food and drink  at Turkish airports tend to be  very high.  My quick informal survey showed them to be 40% higher than at expensive Frankfurt Airport, and  twice as high  as at pricey  Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport .

Left Luggage/Baggage Check Room

Yes, there is a Left Luggage/baggage Check Room at Atatürk Airport. It's expensive for long deposits, but handy.  More...

Lost & Found

Here's information on Istanbul Airport Lost and Found , if you've  lost or forgotten something  in the airport or on an airplane.

Domestic Terminal

You can walk between the  International Terminal   (Dış Hatlar Terminalı)  and the  Domestic Terminal   (İç Hatlar Terminalı) via a walkway on the International Arrivals level without having to go through a security check when you get to the Domestic Terminal.

Istanbul Airport Lounges/Airline Clubs

Both the International Terminal and Domestic Terminal have comfortable airline lounges/clubs you can use.  More...

Sabiha Gökçen Airport

Istanbul's other airport is  Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW)   on the Asian side of the  Bosphorus , about 55 km (34 miles) east of Atatürk International Airport (IST). Here's  how to travel from Istanbul Airport to Sabiha Gökçen Airport.

Seeing the Sights Between Flights

If you have a  long layover in Istanbul  you can deposit your luggage in the  Left Luggage/Baggage Check room ,  go into the city center  and have some fun. But what do you do if you're  transferring between airports  and you have most of a day in Istanbul?   Here's the answer.

Booking Tips

Booking Tips

1. Time your booking.  On any given day, prices can fluctuate based on whether the hotel thinks it will be able to fill its rooms for the night. Your best time to book is usually within 24 hours of the stay, when hotels slash prices to avoid vacant rooms, but that creates a lot of uncertainty and isn't ideal when you're traveling in an unfamiliar place.

Thankfully, websites like TheSuitest.com can help you time your bookings so you get the best price without running the risk of not getting a room at all. The site allows you to  search for hotels  and predicts both room availability and price fluctuations.

2. Check for affiliation and other discounts.  You may qualify for additional discounts simply by belonging to an association or organization. AARP and AAA are prototypical examples, but groups as diverse as the American Bar Association, the United States Billiard Association and even the Professional Disc Golf Association offer discounts on various hotel chains. Check with your professional organization, university or any other group you might belong to. Your credit card might also offer discounts – Visa Signature, for example, offers discounts and perks on a rotating cast of hotels.

3. Use rewards malls.  When it comes time to finally book, utilize  cash back and credit card rewards  to earn bonus rewards. For instance, ShopDiscover offers 5 percent cash back on Expedia, and topcashback.com gives 14 percent back on HotelClub. Keep in mind that while anyone can use cash back websites, you might need a credit card to access card issuers' online malls.

4. Negotiate, not pay, for upgrades.  Instead of booking the fanciest room in the place, reserve a lower-rate room and then ask for an upgrade. If you're traveling at an off-peak time, you have a higher chance of moving up to a vacant, better room at check-in.

You can also try a number of  tactics to score an upgrade  such as:

  • Calling a manager to see what room is available (it usually helps to mention if it's a special occasion)
  • Showing up exactly at check-in time in hopes that your room won't be ready, and they'll have to upgrade you to a better, prepped room
  • Tipping in advance and asking nicely for an upgrade

Here, too, your credit card can come in handy. The American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts booking tool gives room upgrades, resort credits and breakfast. Visa Signature and World MasterCard cardholders can also get special deals.

5. Keep an eye out for price drops.  Savings don't stop when you book your hotel. As mentioned before, a room's price can fluctuate significantly, but not many people have the time or inclination to sit around hitting "refresh" to see if the nightly rate has dropped. Services like Yapta track the price of your room and let you know when it drops. Tingo goes a step further and actually rebooks the room for you, crediting the difference back to your account. It also keeps an eye on other rooms in the same hotel: If a better room's price drops below yours, the service will upgrade you even if your room's price didn't change.

Packing Tips for Clothes and Other Items

Close up of person reading the SmarterTravel Ultimate Packing List on their phone while packing a suitcase

When packing for a vacation the most important things to keep in mind are the length of your trip, the weather, and any non-standard clothing or gear you might need.

Your first step when packing is to decide if you’ll be checking a bag or only taking a carry-on and then curate the amount of clothing you’ll need based on that decision. Typically, you should avoid checking a bag in situations where you have a layover since the likelihood of your bag going missing goes up with every connection . You might also want to avoid checking a bag if you absolutely need items in your bag on arrival—for example, if you’re going on a cruise.

If you’re packing more minimally, focus on packing layering clothes in more neutral colors. That’s not because we don’t like fun colors and patterns; it just means that neutral-colored clothing is more versatile, so you can wear these items more than once when you’re tight on space.

How to Pack in Just a Personal Item Sized Bag

Also invest in clothing that does double duty, like multi-use wraps , crushable hats , self-cooling and heating fabrics like merino wool layers , bug-repellent clothing , wrinkle-resistant shirts, quick-drying activewear and undergarments, casual sneakers, UPF-proof clothing , and compressible jackets … just to name a few. Look toward popular athleisure brands like Lululemon , prAna , and Athleta for comfortable yet stylish travel clothing.

When curating your packing list, you should keep in mind the length of your trip and decide on quantities from there. For a shorter trip (three to five days), you can probably manage with the following: one pair of underwear and socks per day, one pair of pajamas, one to two dressier outfits, one to two activewear or athleisure outfits, one to two casual outfits, and one to two pairs of shoes. For a longer trip (over a week), you can manage with one pair of underwear and socks per day, two pairs of pajamas, three dressier outfits, three to four casual outfits, two pairs of shoes, and two activewear or athleisure outfits.

And if you’re able to do laundry on your vacation, you can probably manage with even fewer items. Just don’t forget to pack a travel laundry kit .

Scrubba Untouched Review

Also make sure to bring along accessories like a money belt, scarf or sarong (can be used for things like an airplane blanket , coverup at the beach, or to throw over your dress on a cool evening), and a collapsible tote or day bag for any extra items you might acquire on your travels. If traveling to a city or destination that is prone to pickpocketing, make sure to pack some pickpocket-proof clothing and gear .

Depending on the type of trip you’re going on, you may need to invest in some special travel gear. We’ve tested out everything from waterproof baby carriers to interchangeable heels , so you can trust our recommendations. If you’re headed out on an organized group tour , you’ll most likely get a packing list from the tour provider, which should make your trip planning easier. If not, do your research online (one tip is to look at locations on Instagram and see what people are wearing) and consult this story for other handy lists of tips.

For more active trips, make sure you have a sturdy pair of hiking boots, quick-drying clothing, a day pack, snacks, and any necessary equipment. Check out our specific packing lists for hiking trips and camping trips .

The 5 Most Crowded National Parks (and Where to Go Instead)

Another type of trip that you may need to pack slightly specific items for is a cruise . Make sure you pack non-standard items like seasickness remedies, formal wear, dress shoes, and your bathing suit. Beach vacations also require different items like water shoes, towels, sunscreen, and maybe even snorkel gear. Luckily for you, we also have a specific cruise packing list and a beach vacation packing list .

Lastly, you need to consider the weather. For warm-weather destinations like jungles and Caribbean islands, you can obviously skip the coats and gloves, but if you’re headed out on a ski vacation then you’ll need a whole slew of things like goggles, a neck gaiter, snow boots, and more. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with a specific Caribbean vacation packing list , a Mexico vacation packing list , and even a ski trip packing list .

The Best Ski Hotels in the US

To help keep things organized, we love using packing cubes and/or compression sacks. They’re especially useful for when you’re traveling to multiple destinations in one trip.

Wondering how to pack all of your items? Enter the great debate of the rolling vs. folding method! While this is definitely a personal preference, we put two editors to the test to find out which method is in fact, more space-saving. Watch the video below to see the answer.

How to Pack Toiletries and Medications

Whether it’s important medication or your favorite lipstick, forgetting any type of toiletry can range from being mildly inconvenient to becoming a serious problem. For toiletries, make sure to pack your essentials, like medication, contacts, and any other items that you might not be able to purchase or replace during your travels. (Put them in your carry-on bag, not your checked suitcase.) However, if you forget items like a toothbrush or razor, you can typically call the front desk at the hotel for a spare.

We also recommend traveling with some type of a travel first-aid kit , which includes items like tweezers, first-aid ointment, bandages, travel-sized hand sanitizer, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Make sure to check TSA guidelines if you’re traveling with medication , as well as the policies and regulations at your destination.

Packing Tips for Everything Else …

Traveling without tech items like your phone, laptop, tablet, or camera can be a major bummer. For those traveling abroad, you’ll also want to remember to pack electronic adapters and converters . Other tech-related items for photographers to pack are a sturdy camera bag , backup batteries, and memory cards, as well as lens cleaner. And don’t forget smartphone essentials like a backup charger, waterproof case if you’re headed out on the water, and a phone stand or tripod for photos.

A travel packing tip we’ve learned the hard way? Travel with a copy of your passport, credit card, and bank contacts, as well as a list of medications and your emergency contacts.

If you are traveling abroad, we have an entire checklist for you, but the most important thing to note here is your passport and visas . Make sure that your passport is up to date, has as least six months of validity, and has enough blank pages for any stamps. Another tip for international travel? Give yourself plenty of time to apply for any visas that you might need and to arrange for a visit to a travel clinic if any special medications or vaccines are needed. You should also familiarize yourself with any remaining COVID-19 travel restrictions at your destination.

There are also some items that you may not think to pack, but should, like an electronic tracker , duct tape , toilet paper, a decoy wallet, or a whistle.

The 10 Best Expandable Suitcases

What to Always Pack in Your Carry-on Bag

In case you’re separated from your checked bag or other items, you should always make sure that you have your ID, wallet, house keys, medications, valuables, camera, phone, laptop, tablet, pen, cash and cards, glasses, and copy of your itinerary with you on the plane.

Other items that you might want to have handy with you include entertainment for your flight, comfort-promoting items like a blanket or pillow, as well as an empty water bottle to fill up post-security (here is a list of our favorites ), a change of clothes (just in case your luggage is lost or delayed), snacks, and gum.

If you’re looking to pack carry-on only, you guessed it: We also have a separate packing list and tips for that, as well as the best bags to use for carry-on only .

What to Pack to Stay Healthy While Traveling

The pandemic has significantly changed the way we travel and, by extension, the items we prioritize in our luggage. While many destinations have loosened or entirely lifted COVID-19 restrictions, some venues and events may still require a mask or proof of vaccination/negative COVID test to enter. Plan ahead to see if any activities on your itinerary have restrictions in place.

Sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer , while always a good idea to have on hand at the airport , have become absolute carry-on musts. Wiping down areas like your tray table, airplane seat armrest, and hotel television remote can spare you from a variety of common travel bugs.

Frequently asked questions

What do i need to know before booking a flight.

There are various factors to consider when booking a flight including cost, fare classes, baggage policies, the complications of flying long haul, and complying with airport regulations. To make your booking journey smoother KAYAK has developed a comprehensive flight guide including insights on finding affordable flights, packing efficiently, and utilizing the best travel tools.

Which month of the year are flight prices lowest?

It’s well established that flights in the low season are generally cheaper than ticket prices during the high season. That means that knowing which month to find the lowest priced plane tickets will depend heavily on seasonality and your destination. While avoiding peak travel times can help you keep costs down, our data shows that the month with the lowest priced plane tickets for domestic flights based on all searches made on KAYAK in the last 12 months was January, while the most expensive was March. If you’re booking an international flight, then January is the cheapest month to fly and June the most expensive.

Can flying international flights with a layover save money on airfare?

For many long-haul international flights, flying non-stop is not possible and you will have to fly with a layover. Some routes will offer both and you could consider flying with a layover for a number of reasons. Firstly, breaking up what would otherwise be a long-haul flight, taking a rest and then completing the journey might make the flight more manageable. Secondly, prices can also be lower than non-stop flights, so while it might take longer for you to reach your destination, you could save money. We’ve looked at prices over the last 12 months for the 100 most popular international destinations for KAYAK users and on average, prices for non-stop flights were cheaper than flights with a layover.

How do I find the best flight deals on KAYAK?

A simple flight search at https://www.kayak.com/flights scans for prices on hundreds of travel sites in seconds. We gather flight deals from across the web and put them in one place. Then on the search results page you can use various filters to compare options for the same flight and easily choose the best flight deal from all of the deals coming straight from the travel sites to your screen, with no extra fee from KAYAK.

Does KAYAK query more flight providers than competitors?

Yes, KAYAK has access to more data and information than online travel agencies and consistently outperforms the competition in accuracy, globally.

What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you flights up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. That way, you can see if leaving a day or two earlier will find you a better deal. You can also select the flexible "weekend" or "month" search options to widen your search range and find the cheapest price that works for you.

What is the cheapest day of the week to book a flight?

The best day to book your flight depends on a number of factors, but there are general trends that you can follow to increase your chances of cheaper plane tickets. Based on an analysis of KAYAK data for all flights departing from inside United States over the last 12 months, the cheapest day to fly for domestic flights is Wednesday. For international flights, Tuesday had the cheapest tickets on average.

When is the best time to buy plane tickets - Last minute or in advance?

Last minute flight deals are definitely up for grabs but when exactly to purchase your plane tickets will depend on where you’re traveling to and from. Based on all data for flight searches made on KAYAK over the last 12 months, prices for domestic flights remained below the average price up to 1 weeks before departure. For international flights, deals could still be had up to 1 weeks prior to the departure date, with prices remaining below average. If you’re flexible, KAYAK brings you both advance and last minute one-way and round-trip flight deals.

How does KAYAK find such low flight prices?

KAYAK processes over 2 billion flight queries annually and displays results from hundreds of airlines and third party sites, allowing it to find a variety of flight prices and options. It also displays results from 2M+ properties along with rental cars, vacation packages, activities and millions of verified reviews so users can see as many available travel options as possible.

How can Hacker Fares save me money?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets on different airlines when it can save you money over a traditional round-trip ticket.

How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy?

KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a given destination and date is likely to change within 7 days, so travelers know whether to wait or book now.

Search cheap flights with KAYAK. Search for the cheapest airline tickets for all the top airlines around the world and the top international flight routes . KAYAK searches hundreds of travel sites to help you find cheap airfare and book a flight that suits you best. Since KAYAK searches many plane ticket sites at once, you can find cheap tickets from cheap airlines and for trains and buses quickly.

KAYAK also helps you find the right hotels for your needs.

Global Entry

-->trusted traveler program enrollment -->.

Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Members enter the United States by accessing the Global Entry processing technology at selected airports .

At airports, program members proceed to the Global Entry lanes where processing technology will be used to expedite the members by capturing a photo to verify their membership. Once the photo has been captured, the member will receive on-screen instructions and proceed to a CBP officer who will confirm that you have successfully completed the process.

Travelers must be pre-approved for the Global Entry program. All applicants undergo a rigorous background check and in-person interview before enrollment. If a traveler was unable to schedule an interview at an Enrollment Center prior to their international travel, they have an option to complete their interview via Enrollment on Arrival upon their arrival to the United States.

Another upcoming processing technology option for travelers will be the Global Entry Mobile App. This app will enable members to validate their arrival to the U.S. on their iOS or Android device prior to entering the Federal Inspection Services area.

While Global Entry’s goal is to speed travelers through the process, members may still be selected for further examination when entering the United States. Any violation of the program’s terms and conditions will result in the appropriate enforcement action and termination of the traveler’s membership privileges.

Team Stories: Ein Feuchtigkeitsspender für unterwegs

What the Hack: Die besten Tipps der Profis für unbeschwertes Reisen

Man weiß ja nie, was man alles entdeckt.
