If you’re traveling to or from Portugal between May 20 and June 26, you might want to read on. Several strike periods start from May 20th at Lisbon, Porto, Faro, and Madeira airports.

At Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport, strikes will take place between 5 am and 10 am from May 20 to 22, May 27 to 29, June 3 to 5, June 10 to 12, June 17 to 19, and June 24 to 26.

At other airports and border posts, including maritime ports, the strike will occur on May 22 and 29, as well as June 5, 12, 19, and 26.

The uncertainty surrounding the future of inspectors from the Immigration and Borders Service (SEF) is the main reason behind the strike. This comes after the government approved a decree-law on April 6, establishing the transitional regime for SEF workers as part of a restructuring process.

We were caught in this melee this morning that we almost missed our flight to JFK. I think it is wrong to use the passengers as a bargaining chip to make a point. The passengers are just ordinary people that are just trying to go through the day.

One of the train operators in Stockholm is doing the same thing. People who use the commuter train are left stranded for hours, trains are canceled. The worst was the opening night for Beyonce’s tour- many trains before the start time were cancelled and after the concert it was a total disaster- it took me almost 3 times as long to get home. I felt sorry for the people who had come from other countries

LIBSON, Portugal (AP) — A strike by workers at Portugal’s airports forced the cancellation of over 200 flights on Saturday, Portuguese media reported.

New strikes in view in Portuguese airports

The trade union of Portugal’s investigators, inspectors, and border guards (SIIFF) has announced a series of strikes at Portugal’s main passenger airports, including Lisbon, Porto, Faro, and Madeira.

The strikes are scheduled to take place from May 20 onwards. The main issue at stake is the uncertainty surrounding the future of border inspectors who are currently undergoing a restructuring process.

SIIFF has delivered pre-strike notices for Lisbon airport and the airports in Faro, Porto, and Madeira, as well as other border posts. The strikes at Lisbon airport will occur during the early morning hours when international flight arrivals are most common. Strikes at other airports and border crossings are also planned.

SIIFF highlights that the approved decree-law regarding the restructuring of border inspection has not been made known to them, and they are demanding clarity and a timetable for the implementation of the transition process for workers. In the absence of such information, the union has decided to proceed with strike action to express their dissatisfaction and demand answers from the government.

Ongoing. Check for the latest news and cancellations at https://www.cp.pt/passageiros/en/train-times/Alerts/strike

Oh, never mind…I looked at the cp.pt web site and see that there are lots more trains. Yay!

Do check the possible cancellations via the link I posted earlier. For example, tomorrow and all week the trains from Rossio to Sintra at 1241, 1301 and 2301 will not be running, nor will the return trips at 1340, 1400 and 2350

We would like to go to Sintra 28 or 29 of April, I hope we will have better news, as organized tours raised their prices unreasonably. How much would a Taxi or an Uber cost? And what about the Labour Day on May 1st? Is everything closed? Are Metro an Buses running?

Rail strikes: public told to check before travelling on second day of Aslef action

Most services on six major lines suspended on Saturday, as strikes coincide with union’s overtime ban

Rail passengers across Great Britain have been told to check before they travel as a second day of strikes by train drivers will result in most services being suspended on six major lines.

Industrial action by the drivers’ union Aslef will mean staff working for Chiltern Railways, Great Western Railway, Heathrow Express, LNER, Northern and TransPennine Express (TPE) staging a 24-hour strike on Saturday.

The will be no Chiltern, Northern or TPE services, while Great Western, LNER and Heathrow Express will run heavily reduced timetable. The six companies have also warned that Saturday’s industrial action could affect services on Sunday.

LNER, which runs trains on the east coast mainline, said it would be putting on 35 services between London, Edinburgh and West Yorkshire on Saturday, about 25% of its normal timetable.

Great Western, which runs services from London Paddington to south-west England and south Wales, said it would be offering an “extremely limited service” on some routes, with a reduced operating window of 7am to 7pm. Heathrow Express will also run with a reduced frequency, of every 30 minutes, rather than the usual 15 minutes.

Train drivers in Scotland and Wales are not on strike but LNER and Great Western’s cross-border rail services are expected to be disrupted.

The strikes coincide with an overtime ban by Aslef for all operators, that began on Thursday and will continue into Saturday, with another planned for Monday and Tuesday. It is expected that the ban will increase the likelihood of short-notice cancellations and disruption.

The strikes follow action on Friday by drivers working for Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, East Midlands, London Northwestern and West Midlands railways.

Monday is the last day of rolling strikes, with Greater Anglia, Great Northern, Thameslink and Southern/Gatwick Express, Southeastern, South Western and SWR Island Line all affected.

Speaking before the action, Aslef’s general secretary, Mick Whelan, said: “We want what we have always wanted, having done our duty along, with many other key workers, during the pandemic, we didn’t seek a pay rise to two years.

“We looked for a simple pay rise afterwards only to find out that the people that we work for have signed rather dubious deals with the government, to limit our pay rises.

after newsletter promotion

“We don’t want to be here; we don’t want to be standing on picket lines, losing money; we want a better, safer, cleaner railway.”

A spokesperson for the Rail Delivery Group, which represents the train operators, said: “We are sorry that this round of strikes called by the Aslef leadership risks disrupting journeys.

“While we are doing all we can to keep trains running and we will work with our industry partners to keep as many trains running as possible, unfortunately there will be reduced services between Thursday 4 April to Tuesday 9 April. Our advice is to check before you travel and follow the latest travel information.”

New Lisbon Metro strike

By TPN/Lusa, in News , Portugal , Lisbon · 16 May 2022, 13:02 · 0 Comments

lisbon travel strikes

In a statement released today, the carrier states that, as circulation is expected to be affected, “the transport service will start from 9:30 am”.

Speaking to Lusa, during the previous strike, Anabela Carvalheira, from the Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (Fectrans), explained that the strike notice delivered by the unions for the 18th and 27th has to do with working conditions.

According to Anabela Carvalheira, the strike is based on the same reasons as the partial strikes held in March and on April 14, 22 and 29 and on May 4.

The Lisbon Metro operates daily with four lines: Yellow (Rato-Odivelas), Green (Telheiras-Cais do Sodré), Blue (Reboleira-Santa Apolónia) and Red (Airport-São Sebastião).

Normally, the metro runs between 06:30 and 01:00.
