Old infobox to be updated soon...

LittleBigPlanet 3: The Journey Home is the first major Premium Adventure Pack DLC for LittleBigPlanet 3 . It comes with a new Adventure featuring brand new levels based on fan-favorite themes and characters from LittleBigPlanet and LittleBigPlanet 2 , totally re-imagined, some cranium busting co-op challenges for Sackboy and his new friends, a bouncy new Power-up for OddSock and a goodie bag full of new creative assets to decorate your own little corner of LittleBigPlanet with.

Story [ edit ]

Larry Da Vinci plans to have a surprise party upon Sackboy, and his newly acquired friends arrival back to Craftworld. He plans to invite the Alliance, but he forgot to deliver the invitations! When the gang arrive they are off course and the force of their landing whips up the unsent invitations in the wind sending them flying to other parts of the planet. Now it's up to OddSock, Toggle, and Swoop to acquire the invitations and return home!

All the levels include 5 stickers that are required to be stamped onto an invitation, which is given to Sackboy at the end of the level. If Sackboy does not collect all the stamps, which are hidden within the level, the invitation will not be sent and the party member it would be given to would not show up. Invitations are also in the quests, but instead of collecting stickers a specific score must be obtained.

During the final level Sackboy arrives at the party and is greeted by all the characters that received their invitations. Now the whole gang is finally back on Craftworld safe and sound they get to enjoy their (not-so-surprise) celebration.

The Springinator is the first of it's kind, a Power-Up for someone other than Sackboy . The Springinator is a new Power-Up for OddSock, which allows OddSock to bounce constantly when R1 is pressed. However Oddsock does not have a sackpocket and it cannot be kept; only equiped when it is offered to the player.

Trivia [ edit ]

  • LittleBigPlanet 3: The Journey Home is the first DLC to be an Adventure Level, and a LittleBigPlanet 3 Story DLC.
  • It is the first DLC to give a Power-Up to anyone other than Sackboy.
  • It, the LittleBigPlanet 2: The Move Pack: Rise of the Cakeling , and the Cross-Controller Kit are the only three DLC stories that are not be based off of another game, movie, or TV series, but a LittleBigPlanet Story extension and to have all of its costumes in the kit itself.
  • Sackboy is only seen in the cutscenes and co-op Levels, while the other characters are spotlighted in the main story.
  • The King and Frida the Bride are fully voice-acted, unlike in LittleBigPlanet , where they use Magic Mouths instead.
  • It's stated that the Creator Curator is "Larry Da Vinci" despite this pack taking place in different places of Craftworld, this is most likely a error.

LittleBigPlanet 3’s The Journey Home DLC Is Available Today

Image of John Fleury

The first two LittleBigPlanet games received periodic downloadable content not just in the form of alternate costumes for Sackboy, but the occasional new pack of preset levels to play through and collect new items for user-made levels. Now, LittleBigPlanet 3 gets its first full level pack in the form of The Journey Home, a story set after the main game’s conclusion that looks to provide some nostalgic fun for longtime fans of the series.

The pack’s story will see Sackboy and the game’s new playable characters OddSock, Swoop, and Toggle attempt to return to Sackboy’s home planet of Craftworld, and will see the return of familiar  NPCs from previous games, such as The King and Larry Da Vinci, along with worlds from the first two games updated to take advantage of LittleBigPlanet 3 ‘s new characters and mechanics.

Many collectible goodies, like new costumes, new level-building materials, and a new spring power for OddSock are all included as well. The entire pack costs $5.99 to download, and like the main game, supports co-op play and includes some new PSN trophies. The core LittleBigPlanet 3 game has also been permanently lowered in price on both the PlayStation Store and retail shelves, now costing $39.99 for both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions.

As always we will continue to keep you updated on more news regarding the LittleBigPlanet series as it drops.

A first-timer's guide to Saskatoon, Canada

James March

little big planet 3 journey home

From timing your visit right to planning your activities, here's our first-timer's guide to Saskatoon © K. D. Kirchmeier / Getty Images

Surrounded by gentle wheat fields beneath a dome of great prairie skies, Saskatoon is the largest city in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan .

Straddling the South Saskatchewan River, it has been the province’s cultural and economic hub since its settlement in the late 19th century (but not its capital – that falls to Regina).

The Northern Plains Indigenous Peoples had been guardians of this land for over 6000 years when, in 1883, white Methodists founded the town as a temperance colony, naming it after the purple berry growing in the region. While the railroad eventually reached the fledgling town in 1890, Saskatoon still only had 113 inhabitants at the turn of the century. A boom period of new settlers and entrepreneurs soon followed, and Saskatoon grew into a thriving city, albeit isolated from big cities like Vancouver , Toronto and Montréal .

Today, the sometimes stark prairie landscapes around the city look like nowhere else in the country. Downtown, you’ll find street art tours, compelling museums, craft beer breweries, a variety of architecture and some fine riverside trails. And Saskatoon now proudly explains and celebrates the Indigenous Peoples who have been here for thousands of years, with the Wanuskewen complex a majestic and poignant monument to that past and present.

These top tips can help you plan a trip to Saskatoon.

The night sky glows behind some riverside buildings following sunset

When should I go to Saskatoon?

Though Saskatoon – one of the sunniest cities in Canada  – receives plenty of sunlight (2350.4 hours annually), winters are long and cold so plan to visit during the glorious summer months between June and August. This is the busiest time of year, but since Saskatoon is a little more under-the-radar than other Canadian cities, it’s not overwhelmed by tourists and offers much better value for money regarding accommodation and eating out.

The city comes alive with music on those effulgent summer days with magnificent festivals across multiple genres including the Saskatchewan Jazz Festival , Rock the River and the Ness Creek Music Festival . And for those who do want to embrace Saskatchewan winter scenes, the Nutrien Wintershines Festival hosts ice sculptures, cook-offs, stargazing and more.

How long should I spend in Saskatoon?

Allow two to three days to explore Saskatoon, but also leave time for attractions on the city’s outskirts that make use of the abundant prairie space. You’ll spend the majority of your time in downtown Saskatoon, on the river trails and the Broadway neighborhood, which is ideal for a weekend. More planning is needed for the excursions out of the city, so map out an extra day or two for those depending on time and budget.

Is it easy to get in and around Saskatoon?

Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport is 7km (4 miles) northwest of downtown Saskatoon, which is about 18 minutes by taxi, the most convenient form of travel to any downtown hotel. The number 11 bus also runs from the airport, and takes around 30 minutes to make the same journey (without factoring in walking to the hotel).

Though its streets are wide, Saskatoon’s downtown core is highly walkable and there are several bridges spanning the South Saskatchewan River that link to Broadway Ave’s bars, cafes and stores. Consider hiring a bike too, as the relatively flat landscape and serpentine river trails are ideal for cycling. Visitors to Wanuskewen will need to hire a car or take a taxi.

Traveling elsewhere in Canada? Here are our top tips on transportation

A flat path alongside a river

6 of the best things to do in Saskatoon

1. explore the meewasin valley trail.

Saskatoon’s huge prairie skies are evocative and entice you outside, so the best way to experience the great outdoors here is by following some of the Meewasin Valley Trail . Flanking the serpentine river, the 25km (15 mile) trails are a fine introduction to Saskatoon’s cityscape, and are best experienced on two wheels (look out for the motivational chalk murals and messages along the way).

2. See artworks in the Remai Modern

The river winds south to River Landing in downtown’s southern tip, and it’s here that the Tetris-like Remai Modern  museum rises up on a small bluff. Alongside a permanent collection featuring over 8000 works from Canadian and international artists, there’s also a quirky permanent exhibition of ceramics and linocuts by Pablo Picasso in this spacious museum bursting with natural light.

3. Enjoy the buss of Broadway Avenue

A short walk across the Broadway Bridge brings cinematic city views followed by a stroll into arguably the most vibrant corner of Saskatoon. Airy breweries , buzzing bistros, kitsch vinyl stores and the iconic Broadway Theatre fringe Broadway Ave, which is a fine spot to spend a morning, afternoon or evening (perhaps even all three?).

4. Take yourself on a tour of downtown's murals and architecture

Back in downtown, discover an art-splashed city on a self-guided street art tour passing by huge murals and multicolored installations spanning 20th and 23rd Street East. Even if you’re not staying there, the Delta Bessborough Hotel is something of a work of art itself. Completed in 1935, the Bessborough is a soaring Châteauesque turreted and gabled affair reminiscent of Bavarian castles that looks startlingly out of place.

5. See how Saskatoon was

Towards the edge of the city, the Western Development Museum’s compelling Boomtown exhibit is an indoor reconstruction of a typical Saskatchewan small-town main street from 1910, complete with a blacksmith, church and train station.

6. Taste local produce at the farmers market

And for a true experience of this land, it’s worth a visit to the Saskatoon Farmers Market  – an institution running since 1975 and stuffed with vendors selling everything from wild berries to handmade moccasins.

A large building set in a bucolic landscape with a goose strolling in the foreground

My favorite thing to do in Saskatoon

There’s a magical quality to watching the sun sink behind the widescreen horizon at Wanuskewin Heritage Park . Not like the picture-postcard sunsets you see on Caribbean beaches, it’s more of a calming, spiritual feeling as the sun’s soft glow fades across the marshy creeks and wooded ridges of the Opamihaw Valley. Shortly after, I watched the moon rise against a blue evening canvas. Known as nēhiyawēwin in Plains Cree, Wanuskewin roughly translates to "seeking peace of mind" and that name couldn’t be more apt.

Around 20 minutes north of downtown Saskatoon, Wanuskewin tells the story of the Northern Plains Indigenous People’s spiritual relationship to this land and the living creatures they share it with, most notably the repopulated bison. You can explore panels, artwork, interactive classes, traditional food and much more, but most importantly that story – which is never sugarcoated – is told by Indigenous People themselves. Few experiences I’ve had in North America have felt deeper and more enlightening than this one.

How much money do I need for Saskatoon?

  • Hostel room: $79
  • Hotel room for two: $94
  • Public transport ticket: $3
  • Coffee: $3.60
  • Sandwich: $3
  • Dinner for two: $73
  • Beer/pint at a bar: $5.80

Budget for your time in Canada with out money-saving tips

A riverside city in winter with snow covering the roads and bridges

Should I visit in winter?

With an average temperature of -13°C (8°F) in January, winter in Saskatoon is only for the hardiest of souls. However, one bonus of a visit in this season – along with budget-friendly prices – is the chance of seeing the northern lights, with the aurora's stunning swirls sometimes visible if the stars align (no pun intended). Just remember to pack plenty of layers.

What language is spoken in Saskatoon?

Though English and French are official languages in Saskatchewan, English is by far the most spoken language in Saskatoon and you’ll need it for all of your interactions.

Christopher Reeves Documentary A Super Man

DC/Dox has unveiled the lineup for its second annual edition, which takes place in Washington, D.C., from June 13-16. The documentary festival will kick things off with “ Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story ,” the Warner Bros. Discovery film that premiered at Sundance earlier this year.

Popular on Variety

In April, Sitney revealed that Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui’s “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” was one of four docus that would make up DC/Dox’s Signature Screenings section. The remaining three docus in the program are: Lana Wilson’s “Look Into My Eyes” (DC/Dox Centerpiece film), Dawn Porter’s “Luther: Never Too Much” (DC/Dox Spotlight film), and Sally Aitkin’s “Every Little Thing” (DC/Dox Closing Night film). Each docu premiered at Sundance 2024.

“These four signature films capture important aspects of our human experience: resilience in the face of adversity, the beauty found in small acts of kindness, the power of art and music to unite people in our shared humanity, and the universal desire to find higher meaning in our lives,” said Sitney.

Six feature docus will make their world premieres at DC/Dox: They are: AJ Schnack’s “Majority Rules,” about Alaska’s decision to use ranked-choice voting; Ross Kauffman’s “Wild Wild Space” an exploration of private companies jostling for dominance in space; Catherine Gund’s “Paint Me a Road Out of Here,” about Faith Ringgold’s painting “For the Women’s House”; Bridget Hunnicutt’s “Breaking the West,” about a Russian oligarch’s ambitions in the West; Alexandra Shiva and Lindsey Megrue’s observational portrait of a psychiatric unit for young adults titled “One South: Portrait of a Psyche Ward”; and Asako Gladsjo’s “The Calling, which follows a group of medical students in the Bronx.

DC/Dox will also screen the North American premieres of Peter Middleton’s “Apollo Thirteen: Survival,” which chronicles the almost disastrous NASA mission, and Chad Freidrichs’ “The Cinema Within” about the art and science of film editing. Jeremy Xido’s “The Bones,” an examination of the high-stakes world of dinosaur bone trading, will make its U.S. premiere at the fest. The doc premiered in March at CPH:Dox.

“With this second edition, DC/Dox continues to provide a festival experience that can only be found in the nation’s capital,” says DC/Dox co-founder Jamie Shor. “This festival allows filmmakers the unique opportunity to connect with an audience that can be influencers and amplifiers of their work, as well as appreciators.”
