Do you have Active Cruise Control? Perhaps you activated the “speed limiter.”

With the poor button design, it sure it easy to hit that LIM button instead of the 'increase speed' one. Happens to me once every couple weeks.

I'm curious about this feature. It can't be reading road signs - I routinely drive on a very short road that does not have any signs, but the speed limit is displayed (and it's different from the roads on either end). And I routinely drive on another road where the sign changing the limit was removed, but it's still displayed. I was guessing that the feature was controlled by some electronic map somewhere.

I’m not convinced that cars are reading speed limit signs as much as they claim. I’ve had several where they ignore them so must be basing off GPS map data. And my Tesla says 20mph at every school zone even outside school hours and it would be bad if autopilot slowed down to that speed automatically as I’d risk getting rear ended if not road rage at a minimum.

We just got our Mini SE on Friday and we don’t really understand the purpose or use for the LIM button. Does it essentially prevent you from going above the speed set? It’s a strange feature.

It’s like a reverse cruise control, allowing you to drive the car below the set speed while helping prevent you from inadvertently exceeding it. I find it useful in school zones — 30 km/h is hard to maintain in a mundane car, never mind a zoomer like this — and in posted speed camera areas.

Carsten Haase said: ↑ It's definitely doing both. I've checked it by driving next to a large semi and it will miss the speed limit change and not update until the next sign but other times there are no signs and the speed changes automatically from a database (for example, with a turn from a 45mph road onto a 55mph it'll immediately change before I pass a speed sign) Click to expand...

I had not even noticed the LIM button until I read this thread. I tried it for the first time yesterday and it seems quite pointless to me. I am sure they thought about this but for my needs, it's completely pointless. If there was a way to disable this button, I'd do that.
Most European cars have had this for decades. I used it regularly when I was driving my smart daily. To each their own, I guess.
To always follow the speed limit, other cars (like Audi) can do that automatically when adaptive cruise control is engaged. This LIM button disengages the cruise control ... which seems like a lost opportunity and possibly a hazard if done by mistake. Instead of disengaging the cruise if the LIM button was to command the car to remain in cruise control but follow the posted speed limit(s), that would actually be a useful feature (to me).

Reverse light/Cruise Control, Speed Lim/ Gear Indicator
- Add to quote
So, first post here so apologise if been covered already, (been searching online for weeks!) so, my F56 1.5 went in for a much needed clutch replacement 2 months ago, maybe more, very early at just 65-70k, probably how she’s driven sometimes, hard life... but anyway, ever since that, I’ve noticed that the “Gear Suggestive Indicator” (Don’t know the technical name) does not display on the screen anymore, along with this, cruise control does not work, nor does the speed limiter, not to fussed about them two, but the Gear Suggestive Indicator is used often by me, also the next one...my reverse light no longer works.. Yes I’ve checked the bulb, the fuse, wires, nothing broke, so I want to check the switch, but where is it?! If anybody knows where the switch will be, or anything else that this problem could be, be very much appreciated!
Sound like the mechanic didn't connect everything back up.
That’s what I believed at the start, I still do to a point, I’ve questioned it numerous times to the garage, they’ve always said the same thing that they didn’t, given up with them now, I’m assuming it’ll be just be plugs/sensors on the transmission at some point
If all of those things were working before the work was done and now none of those things are working then the garage that did the work have damaged your car and must be liable for the repair. The car may also fail a UK MOT if any of the factory fitted safety systems are showing warning lights on the dash.
Its been a couple of months now, I’ve driven almost 8,000 miles since then, i bought a “warranty” with the car, you know the ones that cover nothing at all except if your car catches fire while driving or your wheels fall off, managed to book it in for an excess of £50, just to see if they’ll fix it for free, obviously haven’t told them its on a new clutch
I'd be creating merry ****, toys out of the pram etc at the garage, that's really poor service. Was it a MINI dealer?
Unfortunately it wasn’t a mini dealer, when the clutch went, I couldn’t even get one from Mini/BMW without a 4 week wait, no aftermarket clutches were available, somehow a “chain garage” managed to source one from BMW at a very fair price (I was being quoted £2500+, got it all for just under £1000” definitely all OEM parts, checked before they went in, it’s been a couple of months now though so as much as I enjoy kicking a fuss, I think they’d probably win that dispute now, because I’m sure it’s going to be a connector/sensor somewhere, I don’t suppose anybody knows whether it’ll be accessible without any disassembly of the engine components? I’ve found photos of an R56 and it’s just a sensor that plugs onto the external walls of the transmission, hopefully the same on this?
Did you inform the garage that did the work about the problem and did you give them a fair chance to correct it? If you never told them, then not much you can do. But if you told them they had created a fault and they did nothing about it then you have some basic consumer rights and I would be having a chat with your local Citizens Advice Bureau.

I had the cruise control failure message after the dealer fixed my horn. I believe it turned out to be the "slip ring" within the steering wheel assembly that was at fault. I also used to have a "horn problem". The dealer said it might happened due to dust. He solved by vacuuming the dust in the steering wheel.
I have the same problem in my July 2023 Mini Countryman Cooper S. I am told by the dealer that there is nothing that can be done to rectify this, as it is a safety feature of the car.
