Step 2 Click Join the Beta.

  • If you have the Discord desktop client installed, you might be prompted to open it or to continue in the web browser. It's up to you what to pick! You can use Midjourney in either the Discord desktop app or the web browser.
  • If you're not logged in, you'll need to log in now.

Step 3 Click Join Midjourney.

  • You'll see a list of all the channels in the server on the left side of your screen.

Step 5 Enter /subscribe.

  • You will immediately get a DM from the Midjourney bot containing a link that's uniquely yours.

Step 6 Click the link in the DM.

  • People have been abusing the free trials, so Midjourney stopped offering them. Instead, the AI generator releases shorter free trials around new version releases.
  • You'll see the DM pop up in the left corner of your Discord window with a red notification icon.

Step 7 Select a plan and click Subscribe.

  • Once you've signed up, return to Discord to create your first image!

Bring your ideas to life by using AI Art Tools. Craft a clear description of your vision, including details like style (cartoon, realistic), subject matter, and artistic influences (i.e. Salvador Dalí). You can generate stunning visuals for work, content creation, or even unique artwork with just a concise prompt.

Step 3 Press ↵ Enter or Return on your keyboard.

  • It'll take a minute or longer, but you'll get a response of 4 variations of your prompt.
  • You can browse online for prompt examples to get better results, but you generally want to use parameters and detailed writing .

Step 1 Click a

  • The "U" button upscaled your images in the past, but they are now generated at max size, and upscaling is no longer necessary. If you click the "U" buttons now, you can easily single out an image you like from the tiles. It's easier to edit further and download it that way.
  • Use "V1-4" to create more variations of an image. If you do this, you'll get another 4 tiles with images with similar art styles and compositions.
  • You can also click the refresh icon to re-roll for different images using the same prompt.

Step 2 More variations and zoom tools are available after you single out an image.

  • Click Vary(Strong) or Vary(Subtle) to get more variations of your selected image.
  • Use the zoom buttons to zoom in or out on your image.
  • Use the arrow buttons to pan and expand your image. You can do this to make your image larger.
  • Press the heart icon to add it to your favorites. Easily find your favorite images on the Midjourney website.
  • Open the image on the Midjourney website.

Step 3 Save your image.

Tips for Generating with Midjourney

Step 1 Don't be wordy.

  • You can also use art styles like sketching, oil painting, and vector art. Or you can aim for specific artist styles, like "in the style of Leonardo da Vinci" or "in the style of Andy Warhol." You can also specify colors and themes.

Step 3 Think about lighting.

  • For example, "The Eiffel Tower at midday with cinematic lighting" will get different results than "The Eiffel Tower."

Step 4 Use images.

  • For example, for a steampunk look of your cat, enter /imagine , enter the URL, and add steampunk cat . Press Enter/Return for the results! [2] X Research source
  • If, for example, you have 2 to 5 cats, upload all your images and use the /blend command to mix them with AI!

Step 5 Have fun.

  • Also use parameters like "weird" and "Chaos" to get unexpected and quirky results.
  • Use "--ar" to change the aspect ratio of a generation.
  • Use "--iw<0-2>" to change the image weight relative to text weight. The default is 1.
  • Use the /blend command as well as URLs to 2-5 images to create a mixture of the images in one.

How to Use Midjourney AI on Discord

While there are many AI Image generating tools out there, Midjourney AI has its own style and generates detailed images. But unlike other services that generate images based on your description alone, Midjourney takes your description and improves upon it. In this article, we will show you how to use Midjourney on Discord, how to get started, and how to download the results.

How to Use Midjourney to Generate Images

Once you have subscribed or have access to a free trial, you can start using Midjourney to generate images. Here’s everything you need to know to generate images from Midjourney.

1. To generate, type /imagine then enter the description of the image that you want to create in the prompt field. Provide extra details about the subject, background, etc. to get a more detailed image. Here’s an example below.

2. After the description, use a comma and provide the art style you want Midjourney to generate the image in such as cartoon, vector art, realistic image, pixel art, anime, etc. You can even try using an artist’s name to pick their preferred style such as Davinci style, Van Gogh style, Picasso style, etc. You can also include photography terms such as f/2.8 aperture, ISO 400, 4K, HD, etc.

Entering prompt to generate images on Midjourney

3. By default, all images generated from Midjourney will be in a 1:1 aspect ratio. But if you prefer to change the aspect ratio of generated images, you can include the aspect ratio using the “–ar <aspect ratio>” parameter at the end of the prompt like in the example below.

4. Also, you can customize the value of style with the “–s <style value>” parameter. The higher the value, the higher the style of the image. Check out the example prompt below.

5. Also, the chaos parameter can be used to get image results that are completely different from one another. For example, if all 4 generated images are looking similar, then we can increase the chaos number to get 4 different styles of images using “–chaos <value>” .

6. Once the prompt is typed, press Enter and Midjourney will generate 4 images based on the same. It can take some time for the images to get proper details, so wait until the images are generated completely.

7. Don’t like the results generated by Midjourney? Click on the Redo icon to ask Midjourney to generate different images again for the same prompt. Or, you can also click on the V1, V2, V3, or V4 buttons to generate different variations of the selected image.

8. Midjourney will generate all 4 images combined into a single image with a grid layout. You can pick your preferred image and upscale them by clicking on the U1, U2, U3, and U4 buttons below the image accordingly.

Upscaling images generated by Midjourney

9. Midjourney will reply back with an upscaled image of the selected image.

10. Moving to a paid plan will only increase the GPU Time, so you can generate more images using Midjourney. But, if you are on the Standard or Pro plan, Midjourney will provide Relax mode where you can generate unlimited images. The time it takes to generate images can be a bit more. To move to Relax mode, type /settings in any channel Midjourney can access. Then select the Relax mode option in Settings.

Generating Images Using Midjourney on Discord

Midjourney, of all the AI image-generating services, has its own unique aspects. While it generates images that are accurate and resemble your description, it also adds more details on its own that you haven’t offered in the original prompt. But, there are many other image-generating apps for Discord like DALL-E 2 , which are just as good and feature-rich.

What is midjourney, how to use midjourney beta, key takeaways.

Go to the Midjourney web page, click “Join Beta,” and join the Midjourney Discord server. Enter one of the newcomer rooms and type /prompt (your prompt here) to generate an image using AI.

AI-based image generators like DALL-E 2 have boomed in popularity. People love to enter bizarre prompts and see what gets spit out. Midjourney is one of the more advanced tools for this, and you can try it now.

Before we talk about Midjourney, let's start with DALL-E 2, the one you may have heard about. DALL-E 2 sits at the high end of these AI-based image generator tools. It can create completely brand new images from a simple text prompt. You enter "a robot eating a taco," and it creates an image depicting a robot eating a taco.

At the more basic level is Craiyon , formerly known as "DALL-E mini." This is a free web tool that anyone can use, but it's not nearly as sophisticated as DALL-E 2. The results are often strange and somewhat creepy, but it's still very fun to play with.

Related: The Best AI Image Generators You Can Use Right Now

Midjourney sits somewhere in the middle of DALL-E 2 and Craiyon. It also uses AI and machine learning to generate images based on text prompts. The results are usually quite good, but not as mind-blowing as DALL-E 2.

The only thing you need to use the Midjourney Beta is a Discord account. That's where you will give text prompts to the Midjourney bot. You can sign up for a free account on Discord's website . After that, you can use Discord in a web browser or download the app for Windows , Mac , Linux , Android , and iPhone .

UPDATE: 3/30/23

Once you're all set up with Discord, we'll head over to the Midjourney website and select "Join the Beta."

This will take you to Discord, where we can select "Accept Invite."

We're in. There are a couple of things to know about the beta. You start with a free trial that includes around 25 prompts. After that, you can buy a full membership if you'd like.

To get started, go to one of the "Newcomer Rooms" channels in the sidebar. We'll be using "#newbies-42," but there are a number of others.

In the text box, enter

and then type your prompt and submit it.

You can watch the progress as the four images are created.

When the images are finished, they'll be displayed in a new message. Now you have some additional options.

  • U = Upscale: Creates a larger version of the image.
  • V = Variation: Creates a new image based on the one you selected.
  • Refresh: Get four new images from the same prompt.

The results will be delivered in a new message just like before, and you'll have some new options to make more variations or upscale it to the max.

If at any time you'd like to save the images, simply select the image and tap the download icon on mobile or "Open Original" on desktop to see the full-size image to save.

That's pretty much all there is to the Midjourney Beta! Simply type

and you can follow it with a prompt. Keep in mind certain words aren't allowed, but it's mostly fair game, and you can see what others are creating. There's some pretty crazy AI out there these days, go have fun!

Whether you're an artist looking to expand your tools, or a Discord user keen on exploring new features — this tutorial will help you navigate these waters with ease.

Before we dive into the process, let's take a moment to understand what Midjourney is and why it's a tool worth exploring, especially for Discord users who are interested in generating AI-based images.

Midjourney is an innovative tool that uses AI technology to generate unique images. It's like having a digital artist in your pocket, ready to bring your ideas to life at any moment. You provide the guidelines and Midjourney uses its AI capabilities to generate a visual representation of your ideas. It's a game-changer for people who aren't design-savvy but still want to create visually appealing content.

You may be wondering, "Why should I use Midjourney?" Here's why: it's versatile, easy to use, and requires no design skills. It's perfect for creating social media posts, digital art, and other visual content. And the best part? You can use Midjourney on Discord, meaning you can share and collaborate on your creations with your Discord community.

Now that you know what Midjourney is and why it's worth using, let's discuss how it works. Using Midjourney on Discord is as simple as typing a command and providing some guidelines about the image you want to create. The AI takes these inputs and — voila! — you get a unique, AI-generated image. You don't need to know the ins and outs of design or AI technology; you just need to know how to use Midjourney on Discord, which is exactly what this guide will help you with.

Now that you're familiar with Midjourney, let's move on to the next step — setting up Discord. If you’re new to Discord, don't worry. It's a user-friendly platform that you'll get the hang of in no time.

To use Midjourney on Discord, you first need a Discord account. Here's how you do it:

  • Visit the Discord website or download the Discord app.
  • Click on 'Register' and fill in your details.
  • Verify your email address and log in to your new account.

And there you go — you're now on Discord!

Discord’s platform may seem a bit overwhelming at first, but it's quite straightforward once you know where everything is. You have your servers on the left, the channels in the middle, and the members on the right. All your private and group messages are in the upper left corner. It's a bit like a virtual house — once you know where everything is, you'll be able to find your way around without thinking.

Discord is all about communities, or as they call them, servers. To join a server, all you need is an invite link. You can find these on community websites, social media pages, or directly from friends. Once you click on the link, you'll be added to the server and can start chatting with other members. Remember, each server has its own rules, so make sure you read them before jumping into the conversation.

Alright, you're now set up on Discord and ready to start exploring Midjourney!

Now that you've warmed up with Discord, let's bring in Midjourney to the mix. Integrating Midjourney and Discord is a breeze with the right steps. Let's dive right in.

First things first, you'll need to connect Midjourney to your Discord account. Log into your Midjourney account and navigate to your account settings. Look for a "Connect to Discord" button and click it. You'll be prompted to log into your Discord account if you haven't done so already. Once logged in, grant the necessary permissions, and voila! You've connected Midjourney to Discord.

The next step in mastering how to use Midjourney on Discord is syncing your channels. In Midjourney, navigate to your channel settings and select the Discord server you want to sync. With a simple click, your channels will be synced, and you're one step closer to creating AI-generated images.

Discord is big on customization and control, and that includes setting permissions. Permissions determine who can access and manage your channels. To set up permissions in Discord, go to your server settings, select 'Roles,' and define what each role can and can't do. You can also set individual channel permissions if you want to get really specific.

With these steps, you've successfully integrated Midjourney and Discord. Now, let's move on to the fun part — creating AI-generated images!

With Midjourney integrated and your Discord channels synced, you're now ready to begin generating your unique AI images. This is where the magic happens!

Midjourney provides a variety of AI tools to help you create unique and artistic images. To start using these tools, navigate to the AI Tools section in Midjourney. Here, you can experiment with different settings and effects to create images that are truly your own. Remember, there's no right or wrong here — it's all about exploring and having fun with your creations.

Once you've created an image you're proud of, you'll probably want to save and share it. Luckily, Midjourney makes it easy to do both. To save an image, simply click the 'Save' button located under the image. This will store the image in your Midjourney account. Sharing your masterpieces is just as effortless. Click the 'Share' button, select your synced Discord channel, and your image will appear there for all to see. Now, you're not only learning how to use Midjourney on Discord, but also sharing your creative journey with others.

There are plenty of apps you can turn to to generate pictures using artificial intelligence. Still, Midjourney remains one of the best and one of the most popular options, having launched in beta form in July 2022.

It’s not free to use: The price of admission starts at $10 a month or $96 a year, which gives you 3.3 hours of image generation time per month (images usually take around a minute to render). However, the quality of the end result may well tempt you into a subscription if you need a lot of AI art.

Assuming you’re ready to sign up (for a month at least), here’s how to get started with Midjourney—the commands you need to know, how to save and browse your images, and some of the capabilities of the generative AI tool.

Getting started

Midjourney works through Discord: You can join the Midjourney channel here , and you’ll need to sign up for a (free) Discord account if you don’t already have one. The next steps involve two bits of admin—agreeing to the Midjourney terms of service and signing up for one of the Midjourney subscription tiers. You’ll get a neat little table outlining the differences between each tier.

Midjourney does a decent job of explaining how everything works with all that out of the way. Unless you’re on one of the more expensive plans, you’ll be writing your prompts and getting your images through a channel that’s open to other users, so don’t be shy—it actually works well for getting inspiration from what other people are doing, and seeing what’s possible with the AI engine.

The on-boarding process is straightforward.

To begin with, you’ll need to get involved in one of the #newbie channels, which are clearly linked on the left of the web interface. Click to jump to any one of them and see what’s happening—look at how different art styles are described to get different results, from “abstract expressive” to “hyper-realistic” and everything in between.

The other online location you need to know about is the official Midjourney website . While all of your image generation is done on Discord, this website is where you can find an archive of all the pictures you’ve made and browse through some of the other artwork that’s proving popular on the Midjourney network. From here you’re also able to read about updates to Midjourney.

Writing prompts

Head to a #newbie channel, type “/imagine” followed by a space, and you’re ready to start prompting. If you’ve never used an AI image generator before, describe what you want to see: You can be as creative as possible, putting any kind of person or object in any kind of setting and using any kind of artwork style.

As usual with generative AI tools, the more specific and precise you can be, the better. However, you can be vague if you want to (it’s just less likely you’ll get something close to what you were imagining). See a watercolor of an elephant in a boat, or a photo of an apple on a table, it’s up to you.

Type your prompts into one of the newbie channels.

After a few moments of thinking, you’ll get four generated images based on your prompt—if you want Midjourney to try again, click the re-roll button (the blue-and-white circle of arrows). If you like one of the images more than the others, you can click one of the V1 - V4 buttons to see four variations on it (the images are numbered from left to right and from top to bottom).

Click on any of the U1 - U4 buttons to take a closer look. Here, you get access to some editing features: You’re able to create new variations on all or just part of the image, zoom out on the image (and have AI fill out the canvas), or extend the image in any direction using the four arrow buttons. Click on any image to see it in full-size mode, then right-click to save it somewhere else.

Going further

You can add a variety of parameters to your prompts, and there’s a full list here . They can be used to change an image’s aspect ratio, create images that will tile, or create more varied results, for example. So, if you need a wide rather than square picture, you might append “—aspect 16:9" to the end of your prompt.

Also worth knowing about are the parameters “—cref” and “—sref”, both of which can be followed by a URL pointing at an image. Use the former (character reference) to show Midjourney a character you want to use in your pictures and the latter (style reference) to show Midjourney the style that you’d like your pictures to look like.

The Midjourney website collects all of your images.

There are also a couple of other commands that you can use instead of “/imagine” on Discord. Use “/describe” to get Midjourney to return a text prompt based on an image you supply or “/blend” to have Midjourney combine up to five different images into something new. You can point to images on the web or upload them from your device.

Head to the Midjourney website to find all of your pictures and to download them whenever necessary—eventually, you’ll be able to generate images from here too, but the feature hasn’t been fully launched yet. You can use the filters on the right to sift through the artwork you’ve created, and it’s also possible to download multiple images at the same time or sort them into custom folders if required.

How To Get Started With MidJourney In 2 Minutes (Generate Art With AI)

I've been using MidJourney for a while now and getting some amazing visual results from entering prompts into their Discord channel. But lots of people really, really struggle to get set up.

Alexander Young

Alexander Young

In this concise concise guide I want to dive into how to get started with Mid Journey and create amazing AI generated images that you can use in your own works, books, or sell online.

Step 1: Download Discord

Now the first thing to say is that Mid Journey is a little bit different to ChatGPT where there's a nice chat interface instead, mid Journey uses its AI through Discord. So what you're gonna have to do to begin with is actually download Discord and sign up for an account.

Step 2: Head To The Mid Journey Server

You then need to head over to the Mid Journey website and join the Mid Journey server.

Step 3: Accept The Mid Journey T&Cs

Once you've done that, you'll go to the get started area, and if you click on that, you'll be given a list of instructions of what to do next. You essentially just need to accept some of their terms and conditions and join a trial which gives you 25 images for free, and then you can jump into one of the newbie channels.

Step 4: Create Your Prompts In Discord

Now, before you actually put in any prompts here, I'd recommend scrolling back up to the top of your newbie channel and just taking a quick look at some of the images and the prompts that other people have used. This is important for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it gives you an idea of exactly what to expect, outputs to look like, but also you can steal some of the prompt intent from the other users in the channel.

If you look back you'll often see people using things like certain shaders or different camera types or mimicking types of artists or whatever that you can then use in your. So let's go back down to our prompt. And what you can do is you can type forward slash imagine and then the prompt button will come up.

And here you can type in all of your prompts separated by commas.

Example Mid Journey Prompts

So for example, we might say, I want you to create some art in the style of Banksy. I want it to include a riot officer, some balloons and a mouse. And then you can type in some things like 4K or hyperrealistic, or put two dashes, and then version four, which asks mid journey to use the latest version, which at the time of this video is version four.

You can add in lots of other things then from the other users if you want to try and experiment with things. And then as soon as you hit the enter button, you'll be put into a queue, and after you reach the top of the queue, your AI art will return to you, and you can either choose to accept that, re-roll it, or use some of the other mid journey.

There's loads you can do with Mid Journey and AI generated art, and do let me know down in the comments below how you get on.

Aspect Ratios. 1:1 is the most common aspect ratio you see when it comes to AI art. With the release of V5, you can now use any aspect ratio that comes to your mind. The default aspect ratio is 1:1, but you can change it with the --ar or --aspect parameter.--aspect parameter uses whole numbers such as 472:1000 instead of 4.72:10.. The aspect ratio may change when you upscale the image.
