This is Mumbai as you have never seen it before: calm and peaceful. While the rest of the city is only just beginning to wake up, we take advantage of the empty streets and cool air to explore South Mumbai by cycle.

The tour starts at 6 AM and as you wind our way through the back lanes, we’ll visit must-see Mumbai sights like the Gateway of India and CST Station as well as some hidden gems like Flora Fountain and Marine Drive. At the end of the tour, you’ll stop for a well-deserved South Indian breakfast and hot Masala Chai (Indian Tea)

You will meet your Tour Guide at Colaba Causway at 6.00am. Once everyone has been fitted with their safety gear and paired with their bikes, you’ll be off.

Fancy a cycle ride through the wanted heritage sites of the city you call home to come and see Aamchi Mumbai on a cycle tour with like journey enthusiasts. Let the sights and sounds of the South Mumbai Heritage Bicycle Tour enthrall you under the indigo midnight sky. Breathe in the crisp, cool air you surpass nice monuments, previous structures, and architectural wonders, all lying asleep at the close of day.

While the remainder of the city is barely just commencing to wake up, we have a tendency to take advantage of the empty streets and cool air to explore South Mumbai by cycle . The tour starts at 6 AM and as you wind our way through the back lanes, we’ll visit must-see Mumbai sights just as the Gateway of India and CST Station as well as some hidden gems like Sassoon Dock and Mumbai Panjrapole (cow sanctuary). Safety is the number one priority on this trip, and thus Bicycle helmets are available on request and a second guide cycle at the back of the group.

Gateway of India:- The iconic place was constructed during the time of the British Raj. The serene ferry services and various other entertainment activities attract a lot of tourists.
Victoria Terminus train station:- The excellent connectivity to central, harbor, and outstation trains is simply mesmerizing. The exteriors too have the perseverance of ancient colonial structure.
Crawford The first shopping destination that ran on electricity in ancient ages, till today the place remains to be unaffected by modern advancements.
Marine Drive named Queen Necklace gives a beautiful view of the Arabian Sea.
Sassoon Dock:-The place has remained to be one of the oldest docks and constructed in 1875.

The tour is very easy to ride; the terrain is very flat, and we go at a slow pace and stop regularly to see the sights on the tour and to listen to the guide.

He is very knowledgeable and gave us extensive information about the history and culture of the temple complex, in Angor Wat, the Bayon temple and the very impressive Ta Prohm temple complex were the roots of the huge trees have overgrown the temple walls. He didn't rush us when we stopped to take pictures. He informed us about various restoration projects taking place at the temples. Sam made sure we were comfortable as the temperature was into 36°C. For example by adapting the itinerary of activities so that we visited the sites which require extensive walking, in the early morning when it wasn't very hot yet. And indoor activities in the afternoon. During the tours we had lunch at some nice restaurants and Sam gave recommendations to taste Cambodian food that was delicious. Interesting to see during a tour, were the houses in the fisherman village at the waterway leading to Tonle Sap Lake on very high stilts/ pillars. We learned that this was necessary , as the area is completely floaded during the rainy season. Sam and the assigned driver were always on time. And very polite. Bottle of cold water was provided during our tours and a nice refreshing towel when we entered the van after each stop of the itinerary. As our tour was a private tour it was always possible to make stops for taking pictures . We experienced Siem Raep as a beautiful and interesting city with very friendly people. It was nice that we could communicate with our knowledgeable tourguide Sam, the hotel staff , tuk tuk driver and vendors at various locations as they speak English very well. Leroy is my childhood friend and I'm very proud to see how he has build this business (Amaze Tours) and scaled up to such great heights. We reached out to Leroy and asked him to suggest some place for a boys trip. He He suggested this awesome location where we stayed in a resort which is next to the beach and its so secluded from other tourist locations that are mostly crowded. It is like a private beach with absolutely no one at sight except our group and may be a bunch of people here and there. Golden sand, blue water, clean beach with no trash or loitering of garbage or food packets or bottles that we usually sea at beach side. Local food here was decent too (i'll compromise food to the place :P) and since we had carried our fishing rods, we could do some fishing too - just that we were out of luck :) He gave us door step pick up and drop service. I think we streched it too far and took advantage of he being our friend. He was extremely knowledgeable and proud of his life as a slum dweller and, as a consequence we were treated to an insight of how the inhabitants of the slum are happy in their support of each other and as to how the system works. We visited so many incredible industries and the sights which Maze showed us gave an excellent representation of the way people work and the places where they live. Another fascinating aspect of the trip was the use of public transport - bus, train and taxi - to transport us between the different sites. We did some sightseeing in Goa without a guide & it was not even close to comparing to this. Having someone local to explain everything & answer all our questions was invaluable. Lokesh was out guide for this tour & he was amazing. Personable, funny & he knows so much about Mumbai! We went to lots of different places, but a particular highlight was going through the Dhobi Ghat Laundry. A really sobering experience, getting insight into how so many people live every day. Gateway of India

Drawing on Hindu and Islamic architectural styles, the Gateway of India sits on the waterfront of southern Mumbai, and since 1924 was the first thing visitors to the city would see when arriving by boat.

CST Station

See the famous facade of one of the busiest railway stations in the country. Gaze up at the station’s Victorian Gothic architecture as you learn about Mumbai’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Crawford Market

One of the city’s largest wholesale fruit, vegetable, and meat market— and the first building in India to get electricity!

Bombay Panjrapole

Visit a sanctuary for the welfare of more than 350 cows nestled away in the heart of the city. The cow is considered sacred by Hindus, and to increase their karma, people will come to the shelter to feed the cows.

Mumbadevi Temple

This is the historical Hindu temple that Mumbai was named after! We’ll take a break from our bikes and have a look inside.

Marine Drive

Cycle 3km along the Arabian Sea on the Marine Drive. Typically busy during the day, Marine Drive is empty in the morning and just waiting to be cycled!

Sassoon Dock

Built by David Sassoon, this dock is the main fish loading and trading center in South Mumbai. The people working here are Kolis, the original inhabitants of Mumbai, represent the city’s original culture.

Cycling in Mumbai!? Is it safe?

Yes! Safety is our number one priority and we take several precautions to ensure safety. First, we leave early in the morning while the streets are calm and the weather is cool. Second, we provide helmets for everyone who wants one. Finally, we have a second guide who rides in the back of the group with the sole task of keeping an eye on everyone.

Are the bicycles and helmets included?

Yes, both bicycles and the helmet are included in the tour price. While helmets are not compulsory in India, you can request a helmet either when you sign up or on the day of the tour.

Why is it so early?

We leave early to avoid traffic and the heat of the day. Trust us, this is the absolute best time to see Mumbai by bicycle and it is well worth the early wake up call!

What will we see?

Our bicycle tour is a fantastic orientation to south Mumbai. We will visit must-see sights like the Gateway of India, Marine Lines, CST Station, and Mumbadevi Temple as well as some hidden gems like Sassoon Dock and a cow sanctuary.

What should I wear?

Clothing you would wear for exercise is ideal, but not necessary. Depending on the season, it can be chilly at the beginning of tour. Our recommendation is to dress in layers and wear comfortable clothes.

What do I need to bring?

Everything including snacks and drinks will be provided. Don’t forget your camera! We recommend a small backpack should you want to bring anything else.

Is it appropriate to bring small children on the tour?

Although not strenuous for adults, the tour involves quite a bit a cycling so it would be difficult to manage if small children aren’t strong riders. That said, smaller bicycles are available for children. We can’t, however, provide child seats.

How far do we ride?

In total we cycle 14km (about 9 miles) but that is spread over 3 hours and punctuated by frequent stops for drinks, visiting sights, and some food. In general, the difficulty is very low and doesn’t require participants to be in very good shape.

How many people can go on a private tour?

A private tour is for up to 6 people. If your group is larger than this, please contact us for a private tour which we will split into smaller groups

Do you provide private tours for large groups?

Absolutely! We regularly work with several schools and travel groups and provide them private tours for their groups. It’s always one of the highlights of their India trip! Please contact us if you are the organiser of a group visit

Is the breakfast at the end of tour included?

Yes! At the end of the tour we stop at a local cafe where you get to try a typical South Indian breakfast (dosa, idli, etc). All part of the price of the tour.

What types of bike do you use?

We use reputable brands such as Hero, which is widely used in India. They are fixed gear models for easier riding and maintenance. The terrain is flat so gears and experience are not required! The bikes are adjustable but we can also provide larger or smaller bikes as required.

What if I have an issue with my bike?

We fully maintain our bikes and they are checked before every tour. Issues are rare but we have a kit for quick repairs such as punctures and our second guide will offer their bike to ensure the tour keeps moving. We can also replace any bike without much delay if necessary.
