This advice reflects the UK government’s understanding of current rules for people travelling on a full ‘British citizen’ passport from the UK for the most common types of travel.

The authorities in Saudi Arabia set and enforce entry rules. If you’re not sure how these requirements apply to you, contact the Saudi Embassy in the UK .

COVID-19 rules

There are no COVID-19 testing or vaccination requirements for travellers entering Saudi Arabia.

Passport validity requirements

Your passport must have an ‘expiry date’ at least 6 months after the date you arrive.

Check with your travel provider that your passport and other travel documents meet requirements. Renew your passport if you need to.

You will be denied entry if you do not have a valid travel document or try to use a passport that has been reported lost or stolen.

Previous travel to Israel

You may not be allowed to enter Saudi Arabia if your passport shows that you have travelled to, or were born, in Israel.

Visa requirements

You must get an e-visa or an electronic visa waiver (EVW) either before you travel or on arrival at any of Saudi Arabia’s international airports. The type of e-visa or EVW you choose depends on your reason for travelling and how long you want to stay.

If you overstay your visa, you could face large fines, detention and deportation. You could be banned from returning to Saudi Arabia.

  • the connecting time between your flights is more than 12 hours

Check with your airline or travel agency if you require a transit visa.

saudi tourist visa expiry

If you are planning to visit Saudi Arabia on a visit visa, it is essential to be aware of the visa expiry rules and potential fines for overstaying your visit. Understanding the regulations and consequences can save you from unnecessary penalties and ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip to the kingdom. This article will guide you through everything you need to know about visit visa expiry fines in Saudi Arabia.

What is Fine for Overstaying a Visa in Saudi Arabia?

In Saudi Arabia, overstaying a visa comes with a penalty that every visitor should be aware of. If you are caught exceeding the allowed duration of your visa, you will be subject to a fine of 100 Saudi Riyals (approximately 98 UAE Dirhams) for each day of overstay.

It’s crucial to adhere to the visa regulations and ensure that you leave the country within the specified visa validity period. Saudi Arabia began issuing visit visas for tourists in September 2019, opening its doors to visitors from around the world. Before that, entry to the Kingdom was restricted to expatriates and special individuals only.

Keep in mind that visa policies and fines may change, so it’s essential to stay updated with the latest information from official Saudi government sources or consult with the nearest Saudi Arabian embassy or consulate before your travel plans. Avoiding visa overstays will help you have a trouble-free and enjoyable experience during your visit to the Kingdom.

How is the Overstay fine in Saudi Arabia Calculated?

In Saudi Arabia, the overstay fine is calculated based on the number of days a visitor exceeds the allowed duration of their visa. The fine amount is usually fixed at 100 Saudi Riyals (approximately 98 UAE Dirhams) per day of overstay.

To calculate the overstay fine, you need to determine the number of days you have stayed in the country beyond the expiry date of your visa. Multiply this number by the daily fine amount of 100 Saudi Riyals to get the total overstay fine.

For example, if you overstayed your visa by 5 days, the fine would be:

5 days * 100 Saudi Riyals/day = 500 Saudi Riyals

It’s essential to be aware of your visa validity period and ensure you leave the country before your visa expires to avoid any overstay fines or potential complications during your stay in Saudi Arabia. Always check the latest visa regulations and fine policies to stay compliant with the rules and have a smooth travel experience.

Saudi Arabia provides a grace period for visitors after the expiration of their visit visa. During this grace period, which is usually of a few days, individuals can exit the country without incurring any penalties. However, it is crucial to leave the country within this grace period to avoid any complications.

Fine Calculation for Overstaying

If you exceed the grace period and continue to stay in Saudi Arabia without renewing or extending your visit visa, you will be subject to fines. The fine calculation is usually based on the number of days you have overstayed. The longer you stay beyond the grace period, the higher the fine will be.

Potential Bans on Future Visits

In addition to fines, prolonged overstays can result in bans on future visits to Saudi Arabia. Depending on the severity of the violation, the Saudi authorities may impose a ban for a specific duration or, in extreme cases, impose a permanent ban.

How to Avoid Visit Visa Expiry Fines

Plan your trip wisely.

To avoid visa expiry fines, plan your trip carefully according to the duration specified on your visit visa. Make sure to exit the country before your visa expires.

Seek Professional Advice

If you need to extend your stay in Saudi Arabia, seek advice from official authorities or immigration consultants. They can guide you through the process and help you avoid any violations.

Apply for Visa Extensions

If you have a legitimate reason to extend your stay, apply for a visa extension before your current visa expires. The Saudi authorities may grant extensions under specific circumstances.

When visiting Saudi Arabia on a visit visa, it is crucial to comply with the visa expiry rules and regulations. Overstaying your visa can result in fines and potential bans on future visits. Plan your trip carefully, seek professional advice when needed, and apply for visa extensions if necessary to ensure a hassle-free visit to the kingdom.
