'Real Housewives of Atlanta' : Tempers Flare on a Trip to Savannah

When the wives arrive hours late for departure, NeNe Leakes nearly skips the vacation she organized

NeNe Leakes attempted to organize a girls trip to Savannah, Ga., on Sunday’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta , but was fuming after the ladies arrived hours late to the bus – and with a lot of (personal) baggage.

“Being late is not proper,” Leakes, 45, said to Porsha Stewart, who arrived two hours late but still ahead of Kandi Burruss and Phaedra Parks.

“Who’s late?” questioned Stewart, 31.

“You’re late b––––,” Leakes responded. “Don’t disrespect all my hard efforts.”

Kenya Moore , who was one of the first to arrive and took it upon herself to serve as Leakes’ gate – and timekeeper, flipped out when Burruss finally arrived and admitted she had stopped to eat lunch.

“We all know that girl can afford to miss a meal or two,” Moore, 42, said. “Or three, or four or five anyway, I digress.”

Moore continued her attack when the wives boarded the bus to Savannah, after a furious Leakes nearly skipped the trip altogether.

But Burruss, 37, told Moore to step down, just like she did with her mother after the shoe-tossing bridal shop fight last week between Momma Joyce and Burruss’s best friend, Carmon.

“I felt like you took sides,” Momma Joyce said to her daughter when the two sat down face-to-face before Burruss left for Savannah. “You chose Carmon over me.”

“You act like a victim,” Burruss said. “She been my friend for over 25 years.”

“She best stay away from me,” Momma Joyce stated. “After today I’m through with you.”

“By the time you was my age you were married three times,” Burruss countered, which seemed to soften her mother – at least a little.

“I have decided to wash my hands of your relationship,” she said. “If Todd make you happy, I’m happy.”

But Momma Joyce was anything but when she secretly met with Parks to seek legal advice about her daughter’s fiancé Todd Tucker; the attorney wasn’t biting.

“I knew Todd was the perfect guy for her,” Parks, 40, told Momma Joyce.

“He’s short. He got a big head. Kandi’s short and got a big head,” said Momma Joyce. “You don’t introduce two short people with big heads I think he’s an opportunist.”

“Todd makes good money,” Parks responded. “I think he’s the one.”

“That’s why I could choke you right now,” Momma Joyce retorted.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Sundays (8 p.m. ET) on Bravo.

'RHOA' Group Vacations, Ranked

When I say I need a vacation, my mind conjures up visions of sunny skies, beautiful beaches and endless all-inclusive buffets where the alcohol is included. When the Real Housewives of Atlanta go on vacation , they have the exotic locations down pat — but that is where the ladies and the concept of rest and relaxation part ways. They might stuff their oversized Louis Vuitton luggage with ensembles that are perfect for a fun night on the town, but their trips usually end up being anything but.

Perhaps it’s because I'm an ordinary, non-reality TV star human, but, after a long overseas flight, I want nothing more than a nap, a snack, and another nap (did I mention drinks already?). But that certainly doesn’t apply to these ladies. Clearly, the women of RHOA are a new breed of superhuman whose bodies use the adrenaline produced during knockdown drag-outs to combat the exhaustion of jet lag. Otherwise, how in the world could they step off a 16 hour flight and still muster up the energy to get dressed in their finest duds, have their hair and makeup done impeccably, and nearly kill each other over an elegant dinner?

Maybe the fact that the cast of RHOA didn’t have their first group trip until Season 3 explains all the drama on vacations, because it doesn't take long for these testy Georgia peaches to go from sweet to sour. Here’s a ranking of all RHOA vacations from least dramatic to utterly disastrous.

8. The Philippines

This was by far the tamest of all RHOA group trips. Shockingly enough, the ladies' unusually calm dinner on their first night abroad was the most dramatic moment, but it probably would've been a lot more explosive if NeNe Leakes didn't skip the trip .

7. South Africa

Yikes. On this particular overseas jaunt, the ladies were divided from the start in the epic saga of " The Talls Versus The Smalls ." The separation of cliques by height difference and a dinner invite led to the most unintelligible argument ever between former housewife Shereè Whitfield and Marlo Hampton , NeNe's friend-turned-foe.

6. Hollywood/Vegas

This is basically how Porsha Williams responded to NeNe nagging her about refusing to go to a strip club against her then-husband's wishes. The drama was too much, causing her make an early departure.

5. Savannah

From the bus fight between Kandi and Kenya before they could pull out of the driveway, to Phaedra's argument with an old fling's wife, this trip was one of RHOA 's most dramatic to date.

4. Anguilla

Whew! No wonder a then-pregnant Kim Zolciak avoided this vacay like the plague. Kenya was all about the drama. She openly flirted with Phaedra's husband Apollo Nida and argued with Porsha, introducing us to her catchphrase, "Gone With the Wind Fabulous."

3. Puerto Rico

This fight between Claudia Jordan and NeNe was all kinds of epic. Problem was, none of the ladies could enjoy the sun if they wanted to because of all the back and forth shade-throwing.

Honestly, when NeNe joined the other Housewives on Kandi's bus tour , the situation instantly escalated from harmless drama to unbelievable levels of scary.

Ugh, this was the ultimate vacation from the pits of hell. Kenya fought with Phaedra, shaded Porsha, and met with Apollo alone against Phaedra's wishes. But things reached an all-time dramatic high when the fight between Peter Bailey and Gregg Leakes nearly came to blows. Leave it to NeNe to diffuse the situation by calling Peter a "b*tch."

Sigh. Anyone else ready for a vacation?

The Real Housewives of Atlanta gals were invited to Puerto Rico by Demetria, who was performing there. Claudia Jordan and NeNe Leakes had it out. NeNe bashed Claudia, by saying that she has been with a lot of different men. Claudia retaliated by talking about NeNe’s hairstyle, her past as an exotic dancer, etc.

The women from the Real Housewives of Atlanta went on a road trip to Savannah. They stayed at the Wedding Cake mansion. They also went to a cool night club in Savannah with cross-dressing performers. They also went to a historic black church, and Porsha Williams let the world know that she thought that the underground railroad was a real railroad.

While in Mexico, RHOA star Kenya Moore and Apollo Nida were a little too friendly with each other, which had Phaedra Parks seething. You’ve got to admit that Kenya looked great during the trip. Remember when Apollo picked up Kenya and tossed her in the pool at the hotel?

The Real Housewives of Atlanta cast stayed at the El Dorado Resort in Mexico. The resort had luxurious swim-up pools and large airy rooms. Kenya arranged the trip (in the show’s storyline).

The Real Housewives of Atlanta in Anguila

The Real Housewives of Atlanta group went to Anguilla for a couple’s trip during Season 5. This was Kim Biermann’s last season on the RHOA. Everyone arranged the trip around her schedule, but she didn’t show up. Kenya Moore went a little crazy in her room. She went on this trip with her boyfriend Walter. Remember him? This is also the episode in which Phaedra wore her black fishnet cover-up with the thong.

Cape Town by Damien du Toit

In Cape Town, the crew made it rain in a club. The RHOA girls divided themselves into the Talls and the Smalls. They went out on a yacht. Sheree Whitfield and Marlo Hampton had it out, because Sheree didn’t invite Marlo to a party. Most importantly, Kandi Burruss hung with Todd Tucker.
