• That depends on a number of factors. At US Coachways, we'll look at the details of your trip—how many students and staff will be traveling, how long you'll be on the road, what you'll be bringing with you, and whether your participants have any special needs. If you're traveling with a small-to-mid-sized group, the mini-bus is a great option, with seating for 24 to 35. For larger groups, the full-sized bus accommodates up to 57 passengers. School buses are also available for rent, if you're looking for a more streamlined and affordable option. • Will US Coachways provide SPAB or 19A-certified drivers?
• Yes. US Coachways has relationships with vendors who carry School Pupil Activities Bus (SPAB) and Article 19-A certifications and will always ensure that the driver has all appropriate state driving qualifications.
• Are seat belts required for school buses or travel?
• The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) requires three point seat belts on all school buses weighing less than 10,000 pounds. Seat belt use for larger buses is regulated on a state-by-state basis. US Coachways will always follow all relevant laws governing the use of seat belts.
• Who handles payment? Will US Coachways accept a purchase order?
• Work directly with your booking agent to confirm who will take your payment and how it will be made. As a general rule, US Coachways takes purchase orders. Cash, checks and credit cards are also accepted.
• How much will it cost to rent a charter bus for our school trip?
• The total cost of a charter bus rental varies, based on a number of criteria:
• How many people will be traveling—This dictates the size of your bus. As a general rule, the larger the bus, the greater the cost.
• The amenities you'll need—Most charter buses come with certain standard features, including Wifi, DVD players, stereo and PA systems and charging stations for your devices. The school buses, however, typically don't have these options and are less expensive. For additional amenities, such as an on-board bathroom, you'll typically pay a bit more.
• When and where you are traveling—The cost of a charter bus is typically more in the winter months in Florida than the summer months (there's greater demand). The opposite generally holds true in Northern climates. You will also typically pay more for a charter bus on Friday, Saturday and Sunday than other days of the week.
• How long you will be gone—For day trips, you'll either pay by the mile or by the hour (expect a minimum charge—usually five hours). For day trips, the most common way to bill is by the day. If you stay anywhere overnight, you can expect to pay the cost of lodging for your driver.

Parents of two Hinton wrestlers file lawsuits against school and staff members

HINTON, Iowa (KTIV) - Parents of two wrestlers of the Hinton Wrestling team have filed a lawsuit against the Hinton Community School District and several school staff.

The lawsuit names the school district, Superintendent Ken Slater, Athletic Director Brian DeJong and two wrestling coaches, Casey Crawford and Bradley Skuodas for what they allege was sadomasochistic abuse.

In March, the Hinton School Board held a special meeting to discuss the resignation of two principals , one of those was for DeJong, the 4th- 6th-grade Principal and Athletic Director.

The parents, whom KTIV has decided not to name to protect their children, filed a lawsuit at the beginning of April. These lawsuits claim wrestling practices were a place for harassment and bullying against members of the junior varsity.

It alleges the coaches encouraged the students to play violent and aggressive games against underclassmen and they were even choked out and punched. The lawsuit also says that the coaches did nothing to stop the violence.

The lawsuits also claim that on a trip to Nebraska, some students went to a mall where they purchased sex toys that were then used to assault other students, and the assaults were photographed and disseminated.

Both lawsuits filed claims that the coaches did not inform parents of the assaults. The lawsuit also alleges that on a trip to Coralville, Iowa in February 2024 one student brought along a taser that was used on some of the students. Shortly after the trip, the wrestling coaches were put on administrative leave . On March 18, Crawford, the school’s head wrestling coach submitted his resignation .

The lawsuit says that during that trip, the coaches and athletic director consumed alcohol while on a school-sponsored trip.

There are also allegations coach Casey Crawford instructed the wrestlers to delete messages that would get him and those named in the lawsuit in trouble.

The lawsuits say the two students suffered mental, physical and emotional distress and the district did nothing to stop the incidents even though they were made aware of what happened.

KTIV has reached out to the superintendent of Hinton Community Schools who directed KTIV to the school district’s lawyers. Their statement is below:

A CMS school bus hit his car, why won’t the state pay for the damage?

CHARLOTTE — A neighbor is dealing with frustration after a Charlotte school bus hit his parked car.

The school bus hit his car while making a wide turn, but he reached out to Action 9′s Jason Stoogenke because the state isn’t paying for repairs to his car after the crash.

Stoogenke found that the state denied his claim and didn’t initially explain why.

Leon Schools investigation reveals new details after Lincoln High cheer coaches terminated

Leon County Schools released documents revealing more details from an investigation that determined two Lincoln High School cheer coaches and a volunteer provided alcohol and drugs to minors during an out-of-town trip for a cheerleading competition.

Initially, LCS confirmed that two employees had been fired, but administrative review documents that the Tallahassee Democrat obtained in a public records request show three women were involved — two employees and a volunteer, who were all subsequently released from their coaching duties.

All three of the women were terminated from their coaching positions after they "provided alcohol to students, consumed alcohol while chaperoning and failed to respond appropriately to the safety risk of students who were impaired," according to the documents. The two employees, Precious McDonald and Ke'ana Pennamon, were also fired from their LCS positions.

Attempts to reach the two former employees for comment were unsuccessful, and the volunteer declined to comment on the incident and the investigation.

The incident occurred the weekend of Feb. 8 at a rental home in Orlando where the team was staying for the UCA High School Nationals competition. Documents note that students were also reportedly under the influence of drugs/THC gummies during the trip "without medical attention being pursued for those students."

All three coaches were notified by Lincoln High School Principal Allen Burch on Feb. 16 that they were placed on administrative leave while the incident was under investigation. A week later, each coach was individually interviewed "to discuss and review the incident."

"I have confirmed through interviews that the issue of alcohol possession and use did occur," Burch said in an email to Jimmy Williams, the chief of safety and security staff for LCS. "Additionally, the three coaches confirmed during their interviews the information involving care for intoxicated students."

Pennamon was fired Feb. 23, and McDonald and the volunteer were fired Feb. 27. However, McDonald received an email late afternoon on Feb. 23 informing her that she would be fired from her position as clerical assistant at the high school, and the following morning she responded that she resigned from her position effective immediately.

The situation was internally investigated by LCS and also sent to the Florida Department of Children and Families for further investigation, LCS Spokesperson Chris Petley said.

A DCF spokesperson said they were looking into the matter but had no other information.

‘They just wanted their moms:’ Mother survived deadly Hays bus crash, recounts tragic day

Victoria Limon stood next to the idling school bus after three hours of chaperoning a long-awaited field trip. She pulled her phone from her pocket at 1:36 p.m. and texted her co-workers.

The special education aide at Tom Green Elementary in Buda had helped gather the group of more than 40 children into a single-file line, including her 5-year-old daughter. She guided them to their green vinyl seats before settling into hers, two rows behind the driver.

She and 54 other teachers and pre-kindergarten students on the bus then eased from the Capital of Texas Zoo parking lot on their 40-minute return trip to campus.

As the bus turned started chugging down the busy Texas Highway 21, Limon and several teachers traded cell phone photos, whispering as many children drifted to sleep.

About five minutes later, another staff member told the 43-year-old mother of five that her daughter, Diana, also had dozed off. Limon glanced to see Diana’s head hanging into the aisle and that she was squeezing out her young seatmate. Limon traded seats with the other girl, placing Diana’s head in her lap as the bus rumbled on.

Twenty-five minutes into the trip, as the bus steamed west in a single lane with a 65 mile-per-hour speed limit, a parade of eastbound cars whisked past them with no lane between.

Limon had left her backpack and cell phone in the seat she had been sitting in, so she stared out the window at the passing cars. Then, as her heart jumped into her throat, she saw the 33-ton concrete truck barreling down the highway, veering from his lane into theirs.

Limon heard the sound of twisting metal and felt the crush of a violent impact. She realized she and the bus were being hurtled onto their right sides, spinning counterclockwise as the bus screeched off the highway.

Her survival and maternal instincts kicked in instantly as they came to a rest upright, but leaning, down an embankment. She saw some of the children, including Diana, tossed into a pile, many of them crying and bloody.

Limon is wearing a “Tom Green Strong” T-shirt with its hornet logo and sitting on her living room sofa.

She is the first passenger from the bus to publicly speak, and the aftermath of the trauma pierces through any normal conversation. Limon cheerfully answers the door to her home, offers guests water or a soft drink and a place to sit. 

Then, she starts talking about that day. Her body tenses and her hands shake slightly. Her husband, Eddie, stands feet away, reminding her that she’s OK. Diana was at school.

Limon is among multiple families who have brought lawsuits stemming from the crash against the driver of the truck and his employer. Accounts such as Limon’s will likely be critical evidence as the cases move through the courts in coming months.

Limon divides her life before the crash – and after. But Tom Green Elementary has been – and will always be – an anchor for her family, she says. Three of her five children attended there.

The community around the campus is close-knit and family-focused. Four neighborhoods of single-family homes surround the 850-student school of majority Hispanic children. The school, built in 1985, is named for a Hays County agriculture teacher. Because of the closeness to campus, most children instead walk or are driven by parents a short distance.

For some, a first-time bus ride that day added to the sense of adventure.

Limon left a job she had for a decade working as a financial analyst to spend more time with her children, who range in age from 24 to a 1-year-old, and started working as a Tom Green substitute teacher in January 2021. It turned into full-time staff position in a special education class soon thereafter. Limon instantly knew she was in the right place, doing the right thing.

“I love the school,” Limon says. “I love the teachers, my classroom, and my students. I love my job.”

Six hours before the crash, Limon stood in the kitchen of her family’s two-story home putting the final touches on sack-lunches – an H-E-B lunchable with raspberry flavored water for Diana and a chef salad and turkey sandwich for herself. Her daughter bounded down the tan-carpeted stairs beaming with a Christmas morning-like joy.

“I am so excited!” Diana exclaimed.

The day had been weeks in the works with growing excitement as teachers made sure the parents of each child signed a permission slip and knew to send lunches. 

As they packed the yellow 2011 model International bus – each child wearing special-ordered $7 green tie-dye shirts with the school’s name and yellow lanyards with name tags –  the ride was filled with a cacophony of children's chatter.

Once they pulled into the zoo’s parking lot around 10 a.m., many parents who had carpooled were already there waiting. The zookeeper gave them maps of the exhibits, and the children squealed as he did a one-man show with an otter. They petted goats and reptiles. Limon snapped a picture of a handler draping a boa constrictor around her daughter’s neck as Diana sheepishly grinned.

About an hour into the trip, students and chaperones sat at picnic tables for lunch and began winding down the tour shortly before 1 p.m. – nap time for many of the children.

In the seconds immediately after the crash, Limon took only a second to absorb the shock. 

Even though they had been in the same seat, Diana now appeared tossed into a different row. Limon could see and hear her crying – relieved to know that she was not badly hurt.

In what seemed like only a few moments, bystanders showed up to the bus and started rescuing passengers through doors and windows. 

Limon remembers helping lift some of the children, including Diana, to the strangers before they pulled her out of the same window. 

She saw a bloody fellow staff member laying on her side, but didn’t recognize her because she was so badly injured. 

She also saw a bystander carrying a limp boy, covered in what seemed like a white T-shirt or towel.

Once on the side of the sun-drenched road, Limon gathered with the children around her, including Diana. Some asked if she had any Band-Aids.

“They just wanted their moms,” she says.

Paramedics divided them into groups based on the seriousness of their injuries and the need to go to the hospital.

Limon and Diana were among those to get loaded into an ambulance. Once at the hospital, she and other staff began piecing together information that someone – they didn’t know if it was a staff member or student – died.

She later realized that the boy she saw being carried by the bystander was 5-year-old Ulises Rodriguez Montoya, who died at the scene. 

Limon cried on the emergency room gurney. She had no broken bones, only a broken heart. 

“I can’t imagine what that mom is going through,” she said. “I just can’t imagine. It makes you thankful to have them, and it makes you think about all the times you take for granted, that they are going to come running down the stairs.”

The crash also killed University of Texas doctoral student Ryan Wallace, who was traveling in a separate car on his late lunch break to pick up his two nephews at another school for a Friday night family night.

Today, Limon is still in pain. 

Glass slashed her left leg, and she fractured four vertebrae, requiring her to walk with a cane for now.

“I was bruised from head to toe,” she says. “I couldn’t move. I couldn’t sit without help.”

It took three days of showers for her and Diana to get all the glass out of their hair, she says. Her daughter also was badly bruised and had cuts.

She is concerned for Diana. Right after the crash, her daughter drew marks on the face, legs and arms of her dolls to resemble her own wounds. Diana seems to be returning to normal now, but Limon fears delayed PTSD symptoms could show up later. 

“These things just last,” she says.

Limon is also angry. In the days after the crash, she learned with other passengers and parents that the driver of the concrete truck, a 42-year-old man named Jerry Hernandez, told investigators that he had smoked marijuana and done “a small amount” of cocaine 12 hours before the crash.

Police have charged Hernandez with criminally negligent homicide. At the time of the crash, Hernandez also had warrants out of Hays County for bond violations on past, unrelated charges of assault/family violence and criminal mischief.

“It is incredibly egregious,” Limon’s attorney, Scott Hendler said. He said that as lawsuits mount, he fears the trucking company – which has declined to comment – won’t carry enough insurance to pay for all the damages to the injured children and staff.

Limon hopes to return to work, but right now is too soon. She still wakes from nightmares, swinging into the darkness of her bedroom as if trying to grab a child. She hates riding, even in a car, since the crash, especially on a two-lane road. She braces when she sees oncoming traffic.

Limon’s mind keeps flashing back to the moment just before impact. She desperately wants to rewrite the story of that day.

“These kids had so much fun,” she said. “It is so unfortunate that this is their first experience being on a bus, being on a field trip.”

She paused.

“I just wish it could have gone differently,” she said.

All transport, accommodation and visits are audited to the requirements of the  School Travel Forum  (STF), of which we are an assured member. This should provide all the information that you or your Local Authority require, but if you have further paperwork we will be happy to complete it on your behalf.  You may find the School Travel Forum guide, Demystifying Risk Assessments, useful.

Inspection visits play an important part in the risk assessment process and are encouraged by the DoE. We are happy to offer such visits to the Party Leader (or their nominated deputy) plus one other adult.

As we incur costs from the time we confirm your booking and may be unable to re-sell your holiday, the following cancellation charges will always be payable. Where the cancellation charge is shown as a percentage, this is calculated on the basis of the total cost payable by the person(s) cancelling excluding insurance premiums and amendment charges. These cancellation charges are payable by you whether or not you have already paid a sufficient amount to us in deposits.

We will try our very best to ensure that extra passengers can be accommodated, but we will need to check with the accommodation provider, coach company/airline before we can add any extras on to your booking.

Free places are offered on a 1:10 ratio

Yes.  Extra adults will be charged at the same price as the paying passengers.

No.  Adults will be in a combination of twin and single rooms depending on numbers.

For trips without flights, once you have paid your deposits and your booking has been confirmed, the price of that package will not increase.  With quotations, your price is only valid until the expiry date shown.

For trips that include flights, as airlines release their prices or schedules less than a year ahead, we may have to increase the price of your trip if the cost of your flights is greater than our budgeted figure.

Rush Propst remains head football coach at Pell City High School

PELL CITY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Rush Propst remains the head football coach at Pell City High School.

A meeting was held on Wednesday morning, April 24, at the Pell City Board of Education concerning Propst.

Listed on the agenda was a vote on “non-renewal” of Propst as head football coach. However, when the item was brought up, it did not receive a second motion; therefore, it was not voted on.

Board of Education member Greg Crump said he received the agenda for Wednesday’s meeting less than 10 minutes before it started. Also on the agenda was hiring an interim coach, which did not happen.

Crump said he learned about alleged issues with Propst on Monday. He would not speak to what the issues were, but believes they have no substance.

“In a 24-hour time period to learn of something, to me that’s iffy. And then vote to oust our football coach, it’s going to affect all our kids,” said Crump.

Pell City has had three football coaches in three years. Crump said this is a reflection of the administration, not the coaches.

“We have other issues that are causing us to lose coaches. Coaches come in here, we hire them, and we want them to show us how to be competitive. We want to be the best. We are not settling for mediocracy, and Coach Propst is not going to let us do that,” said Crump.

“There are things that need to be done that are falling on deaf ears. We for one have been meeting with this superintendent asking for help. When it comes to bus and transportation, and nothing is being done. So, until leadership stands up and listen and makes a difference and actually holds people feet to the fire, not just his,” says Erika Hughes, who is the President of Central Alabama Federation of Teachers.

Propst is best known for his time as the head coach at Hoover High School, where he led the Bucs to five state championships. After his time in Hoover, he compiled an 86-25 record and two state titles at Colquitt County High School in Georgia.
