Cozy Little House

French Farmhouse-Style Cottage Home Tour

Obviously there are all kinds of “farmhouse” decorating styles. Today we’ll look at a French farmhouse-style cottage.

small farmhouse tour

This is your typical little cottage bungalow. A white house with a nice front porch surrounded by trees.

small farmhouse tour

Covered Porch:

It doesn’t get much more inviting than this. There’s a beautiful seating area with curtains giving it a cozy feminine touch. Lots of texture here as eye candy.

small farmhouse tour

Upon entering the house there is a vintage dresser in the entryway. It is layered and styled very nicely.

small farmhouse tour

Shades Of Neutral:

A white couch in the living room is surrounded by varying shades of neutral. The overall feeling in this room is one of relaxation and serenity.

small farmhouse tour

In the corner is a weathered vintage box stuffed with pillows. And behind that is an old ladder to layer throws and blankets on.

small farmhouse tour

An antique table houses the liquor and ice bucket with pretty spring branches brought in from outdoors.

small farmhouse tour

A glimpse into the dining room shows more neutral furnishings. French country chairs surround a farmhouse-style table with rustic legs.

Dining Room:

small farmhouse tour

Touch Of Whimsy:

On one side of the rustic table is a settee to offset the sameness of the chairs across from it. This gives a bit of whimsy to the room.

small farmhouse tour

The mostly white kitchen has modern appliances and a herringbone tiled floor. Wood shelves and a knife block are a great contrast to the whiteness of the room.

small farmhouse tour

A rustic island sits ready for chopping vegetables or fruit when preparing a meal. The shelf at the bottom adds extra storage space.

Vintage Decor:

small farmhouse tour

There is lots of vintage kitchen decor. Books and such are corralled in an old wood box. The natural style of the shelves lends a simple yet rustic farmhouse look.

small farmhouse tour

Worn copper pots and vintage cutting boards enhance the color of the barn wood shelves.

Simple White Bedding:

small farmhouse tour

The bedroom too is layered in various shades of white and beige. The bed has the slightly rumpled look that is popular.

small farmhouse tour

There is a modern white bathroom with a tub that I could surely sink into at the end of a long day of gardening !

Stylish Outdoor Living:

small farmhouse tour

The back outdoor area is a delight with two levels of cozy seating to accommodate friends and family.

small farmhouse tour

And what’s a modern farmhouse without an area for the chickens? A chicken coop houses the chickens and is surrounded by gravel to discourage weeds.

Do you like this style of cottage? Which elements of this home are your favorites?

Just lovely. I never get why people feel the need to be so opinionated about other folk’s choices. Live and let live.

This whole space is heavenly! Thanks for sharing!

I love the house but it would have been nice to see a floor plan and square footage info. Oh, and chickens? Better be careful what you wish for – chickens are not prone to maintaining pristine conditions, or being cute off camera….whoever staged this has never lived with real chickens, at least for more time than it takes to do a photo shoot….

Seems a little too cluttered too me. That’s just me. I love the house. Just too much stuff.

So comfortable and cozy. Love the entire look.

It looks like my home until it was broken into, stolen damaged. Shocked when I saw this. Want to fix it. So tired of negative comments about my precious antique, beautiful home.

Loved every bit of it!!! Maggie

OMG enough with the everything must be white and gray (oh but look ath this pop of color in a singular red rug). If I wanted a sterile environment I’d schedule a surgery.

To each his own, but there is nothing farmy or boho about stark white gray and beige.

I don’t care for it either, but some of my readers like it. I’ll be doing another tour on Friday if I can find a good one.

I can’t say there was anything that I didn’t like about this adorable cottage… it’s so cute! There are just a few things that I would change to suit my personal taste. I loved everything in the kitchen. Even though I love the look, I wouldn’t like having to wash and clean so many things on shelves and counter. I would add a window planter box under the single window on the left filled with colorful flowers. And a couple of Boston ferns hanging on the front porch. Otherwise I think it’s pretty perfect.

Adoreable! Even love the chicken coop

I like the style of the cottage, and the settee in the dining room. I don’t care for the “layered” look. (Too cluttered for my taste.) The white is nice, but more color needed IMHO.

This home is just about perfect, plus chickens!!!!!!! I am crazy for that antique “bar” table. Just stunning. Thanks.

Beautiful place…but how on earth can one keep something so white, always looking up to par? A bit of color helps…but the house is great!

What a pretty house! I really like the kitchen. I have never seen white appliances with goldish-copper handles like that.

I love those too. They are the GE Cafe line. The white is matte. Very sharp.

Lovely. And I love how the vases are full of cut branches. I luckily have a small jungle behind my house that is a good source for cut branches. No need to buy flowers ever.

Very pretty. I like the handles on the appliances in the kitchen, very eye-catching. It looks like they match the copper in the pots and pans but there’s some brass mixed in too. I like the look of mixed metallic finishes in a room.

I like how the house is decorated, with the vintage dresser. the vintage items in the kitchen, and the “to die for” antique table, in front of a “dark wall”, the red rugs in the dining area, kitchen and the bath room. Other wise, way too white for me, would have to paint a few walls. Love the cutting boards, the vintage box with the pillows, the box in the kitchen with books and flowers, open shelves, speaks “Brenda”. I can picture this home, with your quilts on the walls, red touches in the kitchen, curtain on the window, more green plants, would just add your cozy look.

Beautiful! The back yard is a wonderful surprise.

I love the whiteness of this cottage, so clean looking which can always be brightened up with colorful accessories. Even the henhouse is white! Everything pops against the white walls. I like the open shelves in the kitchen.

All the walls in my house are white except for the kitchen, but now I am thinking I would like to bring in more whiteness, especially in the bedrooms.

I love the house, although the interior design is way too white for me. And I prefer some cabinets in my kitchen. My favorite room is the dining room – the mix of styles, textures, color, and the cute settee.

Lovely spare decor. The kitchen looks easy to work in and I like the copper replacement handles on the fridge and dw (white appliances!). With the red rug and comfy chairs, the dining room is my favorite, although the outside back area is very inviting, isn’t it? Thanks for this look at a “not over the top” house decor of French Country.

This cottage is so cute. I especially like the ladder and the vintage box. I also like the copper handles on the appliances in the kitchen!

I love this look too..w/ suggest for my daughter

Cute cottage. I especially like the way the kitchen is decorated. Needs a smidge more color overall for my taste. Outdoor spaces are wonderful.

I LOVE this house and how it’s decorated excepted way too much white. I like lots of color. But other than that, I would love to own this cute little cottage.

Summer Farmhouse Home Tour

Welcome to the our annual farmhouse home tour! I’ve been hosting this event every year for quite a while now, and this year I’ve invited a few of my favorite farmhouse style bloggers to join me as we share a small bite of summer living in our homes.

If you’re new around here, welcome! Pull up a mason jar of sweet tea & sit a spell as we take a quick tour of our home.

So here’s the quick backstory: About 15 years ago, my husband and I bought my childhood home from my parents. Eventually we began to remodel the house to fix things that had fallen into disarray & make it our own. So the writer in me decided to start a blog to be a virtual scrapbook. And now you’re here… crazy, huh? It’s been a long road on our remodeling journey – ten years to be exact. And I’m so glad you’re here!

Five years ago versus today. We’ve come a long way, baby! Today we finally get to start landscaping, which is exciting and scary all at the same time. Any suggestions? 🌻🌳🌸🌲🌺 #mobilehome #mobilehomeremodel #farmhousehappy #shabbycreekcottage #homeexterior A post shared by Gina Luker (@shabbycreek) on Sep 27, 2017 at 4:39am PDT

This is where we started versus where we were at the end of last summer from my Instagram . I didn’t snap a pic this week because we’re in full landscaping mode – but that post is coming in just a couple of weeks… so stay tuned!

gorgeous farmhouse home tour - can you believe this is a MOBILE HOME?!?

As you step in the front door of our home tour, you’ll walk into our living room. I shared the entire makeover on last year’s summer tour … and other than a few accessories it looks almost the exact same.

gorgeous farmhouse home tour - can you believe this is a MOBILE HOME?!?

I don’t tend to change the anchor pieces much like furniture, rugs & curtains. I’m a firm believer in buying great quality once and making the most of it.

gorgeous farmhouse home tour - can you believe this is a MOBILE HOME?!?

However I do have a “thing” for mixing in fresh flowers as much as possible.

gorgeous farmhouse home tour - can you believe this is a MOBILE HOME?!?

Moving on to our kitchen. This room was the first space we remodeled, although it has been updated with fresh paint on the cabinets, light swap outs & a few other things here and there.

small farmhouse tour

Although it’s been a workhorse for nearly a decade, this is all going to be different by next summer’s home tour as we are completely gutting it this summer and reworking the entire layout. It’s exciting & scary all at the same time.

gorgeous farmhouse home tour - can you believe this is a MOBILE HOME?!?

Beside the kitchen is our laundry room. This is the most recent room to get a makeover around here and you can see the full before and after on

small farmhouse tour

We did the entire space in a weekend by making just a few simple changes to strip down the space and make it far more functional.

Gorgeous Farmhouse Laundry Room Makeover for under $200!

Give me function over form any day of the week 🙂

Gorgeous before and after of a modern farmhouse bedroom makeover!

Want to be our guest? Since we’re empty nesters, the guest room gets used quite often for friends who come to hang out here at the cottage for a day or two.

gorgeous farmhouse home tour - can you believe this is a MOBILE HOME?!?

This makeover was done last year after our baby girl moved out – and it’s been such a delight to have a space where our friends and family can relax and enjoy our country life for a while.

small farmhouse tour

It was another weekend makeover – I’m pretty fond of those since I’m impatient and want things done now. If only I could “Mary Poppins” a makeover… wouldn’t that be swell?

gorgeous farmhouse home tour - can you believe this is a MOBILE HOME?!?

And then there’s our master bedroom. This room has pretty much looked the same for years now. The blanket gets changed out, as well as the accessories from time to time, but it’s kind of comforting to rest in the space you love every day.

gorgeous farmhouse home tour - can you believe this is a MOBILE HOME?!?

The side table gets changed up ALL THE TIME… but everything else remains the same.

So that’s it for our farmhouse style summer home tour! I’m so glad you stopped by the cottage to hang out for a spell, but be sure to visit my friends and see their beautiful homes, as well!

Industrial Modern Farmhouse Home Tour

March 8, 2021 by Petite Modern Life 22 Comments

It’s not hard to imagine this, but I really come alive with people talk about house building, design choices, and remodeling dreams. My brain buzzes with excited synapses and my fingers get a little twitchy, like I’ve had too much coffee. So when I discovered a new friend of mine had just finished a build, I couldn’t wait to get her industrial modern farmhouse home tour! Find all the farmhouse sources at the bottom of the post!

small farmhouse tour

Their Industrial Modern Farmhouse Layout

The 2400 square foot house is almost entirely single level with one above garage room. On the main level are 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, open concept living room/kitchen, and walk in pantry. The exposed wood trusses in the open concept area are a gorgeous touch that rivet the eyes.

**This post contains affiliate links to Amazon and other affiliates. You can read more about affiliate marketing on my FAQ page!

small farmhouse tour

Their open concept area is so great for relaxing, cooking, dining, and kids playing! The spacious wood floors lets the kids be kids riding indoor toys and chasing each other around.

small farmhouse tour

The tall farmhouse ceilings are are accented with beautiful shiplap. The subway tiles rising to the the lower ceiling corners also break up the textures in the space. They made their own concrete counters from forms on top of the cabinets and are very happy with how they’ve held up over the years. We’ve done faux concrete counters in a kitchen and bathroom in the past, but this is a much better way!

small farmhouse tour

The coffee corner is such a fun feature. With a hot water tap, ground dump are, precision grinder , and commercial grade classy espresso machine , you’re guaranteed a delicious wake up treat in the morning.

small farmhouse tour

Isn’t this herrignbone sliding barn door STUNNING?! They custom build it and it’s definitely a statement piece. The beautiful wood accents in this house really anchor in that raw, warm farmhouse feel and balance out the coolness of the black industrial elements.

small farmhouse tour

I love their open bathroom with soaker tub. (Ps. This tub is a steal on Amazon!) Bath tiles are similar to these and you can find the standing floor mounted faucet here .

small farmhouse tour

Ikea furniture, like this bathroom vanity is a great, inexpensive way to add incredible storage with that farmhouse industrial modern look. Saving on vanities allows you to spend more on accent lighting! I also looked at Ikea bathroom vanities for our house, but for our style ultimately chose from these vanities .

I hope you enjoyed this gorgeous industrial modern farmhouse home tour! It’s a home with a great layout suitable for all types of families!

The layout is such a great one, so accessible with the main floor living. I love the above garage room next to the master. Keeps the kids nearby, but up where it can be quiet. So good! (And going on the market this year…)

Hi! It’s galvanized steel!

Working in transforming a manufactured home from 1968. ( !) We bought it sight unseen while traveling in our airstream to Wyoming from VT for our youngest’s wedding. Would you be able to share what the exterior siding is- aluminum? Wood? The roof is metal but does not look exactly like standing seam ( tons of those here in VT). Would you please let me know what the roofing is as well? Please let your friends know they did a fantastic job!

December 13, 2022 at 11:44 am

Hello! My friend said the siding was Hardie Board and batten, painted and the roof was standing seam galvanized metal. :)

January 14, 2023 at 3:16 pm

Hi Miss Karisa,

I know this is your froend’s home, and I saw your ‘rough’ drawing of their layout… Would it maybe be possible to find out whethwr or not they would be willing to sell their plans?… Or share where they found them?

I would absolutely cherish getting my hands on them.

Please please do share, if they’re willing.

Thank you so so much!

January 19, 2023 at 10:09 am

Hi Kate! That is a great question! They are in the middle of building and moving into a new house and haven’t had the time to consider the idea yet, but they do still have the plans. You can email the husband with an offer at [email protected] :)

January 19, 2023 at 11:58 am

Thank you soooo much Miss Karisa!!

Are they in Chelan, WA?? We’re on the west side of the mountains in Arlington WA!

I’m going to email him this morning. :)

Thank you so very much.

Purchasing one big print might be pricey, but if you collect the prices of dozen of smaller ones this new trend is actually more budget-friendly, it looks pretty clean and it will give your place a sophisticated look.

This big horse print is the perfect addition to the neutral-toned console table decor.

A Beautiful French Country Farmhouse Home Tour

Don’t you just love a home tour? I sure do. I am showing your our 1980’s home now renovated into a chic modern French Country Farmhouse.

Hey Friends!

Welcome! I am so glad that you are here. I always enjoy our time together. Do you love a good home tour ? When My husband and I were young and craved cheap entertainment, we used to love going to home tours on Sunday afternoons. I loved seeing how people designed their homes. It’s been years since we have done that, but I still love a great house tour. Today, I am showing you A Beautiful French Country Farmhouse Home Tour. Come on, I’ll show you.

When my husband and I drove up to this house, we feel in love before we even drove down the driveway. I knew that this house would be everything that we wanted in a house, with a whole lot of blood, sweat and tears. I love a good home remodel project.

We had just become empty nesters, which is quite the adjustment. We were moving back home to be next to our friends and family after living in another state for eight years. We were so excited. But, then my husband got a great opportunity for a new job in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Wait? What? Isn’t the dream house and project in Oregon? Yep, I remodeled this house from 3,000 miles away. I definitely don’t recommend that. It was oh, so hard. But we had the most amazing contractor to help us. I would fly to Oregon and spend a week with our contractor and friend and we will discuss all of the details for the projects that he would be working on for the next month. I would fly home for one week each month for about a year and a half. The house turned out amazing.

small farmhouse tour

This is our living room. I love the vaulted ceiling and the fireplace. It makes for such a lovely and cozy room. When we bought the house, the fireplace was made from lava rock, which just wasn’t the look that I was going for. To see the “before’ pics and see the full living room remodel, see the post here.

small farmhouse tour

I love how the living room opens up into the dining room. It is really a great layout for entertaining our friends and family.

A Beautiful French Country Farmhouse Home Tour

I absolutely love our dining room now. When we bought the house, there was a wall that divided the kitchen from the dining room. It cut off the dining room and living room from the rest of the house and we rarely went in there, except for on the holidays. My dream was to have a large dining room table to seat up to 16 people for a meal. We took down the wall and it opened up the space beautifully. Our dining room table seats ten, then I have a second table that I can put at the end of our dining table. And, voila! a table that seats 16. Nothing makes me happier that to have my house full of family and friends.

small farmhouse tour

The brick floors are my very favorite part of the remodel. We had the bricks laid in a herringbone pattern, which I love. I have also used the herringbone pattern for the backsplash behind my range, as well. The brick floors really give the house a ton of old world character. They are not only beautiful, but they are indestructible. To see the “before’ pics and see the full dining room remodel, see the post here.

small farmhouse tour

My kitchen is my favorite room in the house. It’s where I spent most of my time, and where I keep the chocolate. 🙂 It truly is the heart of our home. It is wonderful to have the kitchen and dining room open to each other, it makes it so much easier when entertaining a crowd.

small farmhouse tour

I love all of the details in here that give it the French Country feel. I replaces all of the lighting in our home with vintage lighting from Facebook Marketplace, Antique Stores or while thrifting. This light fixture is one of my favorites. To see the “before” pics and the full kitchen remodel, see the post here.

A Beautiful French Country Farmhouse Home Tour

Besides the kitchen, the family room is where we spend a lot of our time in. It is a warm and cozy place to spend time visiting or watching a movie. I store the toys for the grand babies in the cabinets in this room. Nothing in our home is too precious, we built it to withstand a beating. Along with the vintage furniture, the hand hewn hardwood floors and the DIY coffee table- the more knicks and dents added to the room-just adds more character. As does the artwork that my grandson scratched into the side of the leather chair while in a time out.

This room has two sets of French doors that open up onto the patio-it’s perfect for entertaining. To see the “before” pics and the full family room remodel, see the post here.

I love this little powder bathroom, it is small, but it sure packs a punch. Not only does it have the brick floors in it, but I bought an antique dresser and made it into our vanity. I also found the perfect vintage lighting on Facebook Marketplace for only $20. It makes me giddy every single time that I see it. If you love vintage, Facebook Marketplace is a great place to shop and it saves a whole lot of money when you are doing a whole house remodel. To see the “before” pics and the full powder bathroom remodel, see the post, here.

beautiful french country laundry room, black cabinetry, vintage brick flooring, travertine counters

When we looked at this house with our realtor, my father in law, we can in from the garage into the laundry room. I was smitten. I loved the size of this room. It, too has the brick floors, which I adore, but it has such great storage as well. I use the laundry room as my butlers pantry as well. It makes it so convenient when I am doing tablescapes. See the post on how I store my dishware here.

black cabinets, black washer and dryer, travertine counters, french country decor

If you have to do laundry, you might as well do it in a beautiful room , right? And, if it has not one, but two gorgeous vintage chandeliers it’s even better. I found these two identical vintage chandeliers while thrifting with a girlfriend. My heart started to pitter pat so hard. I knew that I couldn’t go home without them. I decided that I would walk into the store and pretend that I didn’t like them very much, because I wanted to make sure that I could get a great deal on them. I was so afraid that I wouldn’t be able to afford them. When the lady told me that they were only $60 each, I didn’t even bother to negotiate. I knew that I had the best deal ever. To see the “before” pics and the full laundry room remodel, see the post, here.

A beautiful Master bedroom ideas

I love walking into the master bedroom now. I love the stone wall paper (See how I hung it here .) I love the wall to wall windows-they look out onto the garden and then onto the valley floor and the mountain range. It is such a lovely view. When I first walked into the room, it needed a lot of work-but I had so many ideas and I just couldn’t wait to get started.

French Country Master Bedroom

This bedroom is just so restful. I love using neutral color palette when designing a room, especially in a bedroom. You should see the “before” pics of this room. To see the “before” pics and the Master bedroom remodel, see the post, here.

master bathroom A Beautiful French Country Farmhouse Home Tour

And, last but not least is the Master Bathroom. This, too, is a spacious room with the neutral color palette. When we bought this house, the bathtub was huge and dark green and set upon a stage like platform and you had to go up the stairs to get to the bathtub. The bathroom also has vaulted ceilings, which make the bathroom seem palatial. To see the “before” pics and the Master bathroom remodel, see the post, here.

Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. I love all of the warm tones and the cozy vibes that the fall time gives. All of that being said I am excited to share a fall tour of my home. Along with my fall tour, I joined some of my friends to share a fall inspiration blog hop. Come along friends and take the tour.

The first stop is one of my all time favorite spots of my home..the front porch. Since it is still hope here in NC I have to keep it fall simple but layered. I love styling with vintage pieces that are chippy with so much texture. This little bench that I picked up last year from one of my friends. it is perfect to layer with pumpkins and books. Adding in the pampas grass gives this space another texture that adds to the cozy vibes. From this space I headed to the door that I layered with rugs, mums, and of course pumpkins.

One spot for my home that I want my guest to feel cozy in is the entry way since it is the first stop into the house. This space I layered with some of my fall favorites, like cozy throws,  a chunky cardigan, and a fun fall hat. I love sharing the welcome feeling to all my guest.

Leading into the kitchen is the dinning room is one of my favorite spaces to style for any seasons. I love to layer it with family heirlooms and seasonal decor. Next is off to my kitchen and this is space is so much fun to style especially with the open shelving in the kitchen. I choose to stick with mustard and wood tones, along with layering in some vintage amber bottles.

Having my home cozy for my favorite season is a must around here. The bedrooms to outdoor spaces I fill will cozy textures and lots of pumpkins. I love bring back those childhood memories that make the seasons feel like I am in a Hallmark Movie. I hope that you enjoy the fall tour and it can inspire you to make your home cozy for the fall seasons.

Home Bunch - Interior Design Ideas

Located in Charlotte, North Carolina and built by Grande Custom Builders , this home is a great example of a Farmhouse-style home with a front porch on a small lot. The garage is located in the back, leaving the opportunity to add classic architectural details, which certainly add to the curb-appeal of this newly-built home.

The interiors are warm, inviting and full of character. Although this is definitely a home built with family life in mind, I can’t help but see it as being perfect for empty-nesters. Its layout is perfect for entertaining and the small – and low-maintenance – backyard features a separate building that can be used as a Gym or Guest House and it even features a dreamy pool. Get ready to fall in love with this quaint Farmhouse! I certainly have!

My Small Home Tour and 12 More Small House Tours

small farmhouse tour

Today I'm sharing a small home tour with tons of ideas you can grab and DIY! I see tons of large home tours, and most of them are so stunningly beautiful, but feel very unattainable for most of us. No worries, today I've gotten together with 12 of my blogging friends to show that you don't have to have a large home to have a beautiful home...and you don't have to have a ton of money either. I hope you can grab some inspiration and make some simple changes in your small (or large) home, and really learn to love the home you live in!

12 Small Space Home Tours with tons of budget friendly ideas! These small houses show that you can love the home you have and make the most of your small space with tons of storage and DIY ideas.

I'm so excited that my blog friend, Stacy from Not JUST A Housewife  put this Small House Tour together! She's first up on the tour today, so be sure to check her out after you tour my little house! If you are a first time visitor, I encourage you to take a look at my Home Tips Page while you are here! I share hundreds of DIY Cleaning Solutions and Budget Friendly Home Tips to make life easier!

Next on the home tour will be my friend Abby from Just a Girl and Her Blog ...she has the cutest style and is all about organization...you will love her!

12 Small Space Home Tours with tons of budget friendly ideas! These small houses show that you can love the home you have and make the most of your small space with tons of storage and DIY ideas.

I'm going to walk you through the the main floor of our home and show you a few inexpensive DIY ideas along the way. We have talked about moving into a larger home many times through the years, but I honestly love our home and the coziness it provides. I think living in a small home has made our family stay close. Sometimes it's a struggle, and storage can be a real issue, but if you just get a little creative, living in a small home can be amazing! Don't forget to check out all of the other ladies that are sharing their small home tours today and tomorrow! I'll be linking to 5 more today and I'll post links to the other 6 tomorrow.

12 Small Space Home Tours with tons of budget friendly ideas! These small houses show that you can love the home you have and make the most of your small space with tons of storage and DIY ideas.

Let's start in the living room, shall we? This is what you see when you first walk into our home. As you can see, I love whites and blues. I guess if I had to describe my style, it would be thrifted, cottage style...with tons of plants. I have plants EVERYWHERE in our home...a little known fact about me, when I was little, I wanted to be a botanist. I once turned the back room in our home into my laboratory. I dug up every flower, plant and weed I could find and planted them in cups and bowls so I could study them. Needless to say, that didn't pan out, but I still have a strong love for plants.

A few little details about our living room...that huge chalkboard above the mantel used to be a mirror on a dresser. I just painted it and it's been there for a few years now. You can find the tutorial HERE ! The TV console is actually a shelf from Target.

12 Small Space Home Tours with tons of budget friendly ideas! These small houses show that you can love the home you have and make the most of your small space with tons of storage and DIY ideas.

The plant behind my husband's leather chair (which I try to camouflage with a blanket), is a Fiddle Leaf Fig  plant. If you ever read Better Homes and Gardens, then you have probably seen one. I am absolutely in love with them, and have two. The shelf beside the couch is an old whiskey display that my father-in-law brought me a few years ago. I painted it white, and it is one of my favorite pieces in our home. Most of the furniture pieces in our home started out dark or in bad shape, and I have painted them with Chalky Finish Paint . I love chalk based paint...it adheres to furniture with no sanding and really sticks. A little goes along way, so you don't have to spend a ton of money to change the look of a piece of furniture.

I just got these faux paperwhites in the mail yesterday! They are from Magnolia Market (you know, Joanna Gaines shop from the HGTV show, Fixer Upper). They really make it feel like spring!

12 Small Space Home Tours with tons of budget friendly ideas! These small houses show that you can love the home you have and make the most of your small space with tons of storage and DIY ideas.

Our living room leads into our dining area, which is right off of our kitchen. That grey cabinet that you see on the left used to be a cherry wood and glass curio cabinet. I painted it glass and all with Chalky Finish Paint in Relic a few weeks ago so I could store my crockpot, pressure cooker and other kitchen gadgets in there without having to look at them.

There are two more pieces from Magnolia Market in our dining area too. My husband bought me the "Today is a good day for a good day" metal sign for Christmas, and I bought myself the amazing Farmhouse Serving Plank that you see in the middle of our table. I use it to serve dinner on in the evenings, and it's great to use when we have guests over as the world's largest cheeseboard.

This is the view from the living room that shows how our dining space, kitchen and breakfast nook/office are all connected. This is where I spend most of my time. I created a kitchen island using a sideboard that I found at Wayfair. It houses my cookbooks, some fun dishes, our indoor grill and is where I do all of my meal prep when cooking dinner. Since we are super limited on cabinet space, I added hooks to each side to hold my colanders and strainers.

I removed some of our cabinet doors so I could see my dishes. Our kitchen cabinets were originally cherry, and in really rought shape, so I painted them using chalky paint too. The backsplash is actually peel-and-stick faux wood flooring planks that look a lot like our wood floors. I wanted a rustic look, but nothing too permanent. This is the second time I've used this product for a backsplash, and I love it. You can see the tutorial I shares showing how to use them as a backsplash HERE ! It's by far one of my most popular posts!

This is where the business of blogging happens. I LOVE all things aqua, and white of course, so this is my favorite space...it inspires lots of creativity. It can see our patio and back yard from here, and the windows let in a ton of light. And of course...I have plants everywhere! Those hanging planters are from IKEA. I saw them in one of their commercials and had to have them. You can even see the cat food bowl tucked in beside my smaller Fiddle Leaf Fig plant. Just keepin' it real here.

So, that's a quick tour of our little home. You can find our Blue and White Bedroom HERE and our Back Patio HERE !

Now onto some more small house goodness! Be sure to check out the rest of the small home tours below!

WOW....loved the tour of your home. Your place looks soooooo fresh and inviting. You are SO CREATIVE. Will be trying the "chalky Paint" on some of my stuff. I have never heard of it before. Who makes it....etc.

Hi, Mickie! Thank you so much for the kind words! The chalky finish paint is made by DecoArt. I use it on EVERYTHING. I've painted tables, shelves, the curio cabinet (including the glass), mirrors, my kitchen cabinets, two of our bathroom cabinets and a few dining chairs. It is amazing! You need to finish it off with DecoArt's Creme Wax to pull out the color and really protect it. Hope this helps! ~Jess

I loved taking the tour of your small house. I also have a small house and have come up with some ideas for storaage, etc., etc., etc. My colors are different, but, still make my rooms look larger.

I love the faux wood backsplash - I would have never thought of that! I think it would even be a good idea as a backdrop for food photo shots.

So crisp, fresh and clean! Great job! Love everything. Now it is time to enjoy the fruits of your labor with your family and friends.

Where did you find the white curtains hanging in your blogging space? I LOVE them. You have a beautiful home. I went from a 1,400 sq ft house to a 2,600 sq ft house thinking we "needed more space." We didn't like it; it was terrible to keep clean and we seemed so far away from each other in the same house. We downsized back to an 1,800 sq foot home and I am so happy we did. It is cozier and we seem closer as a family again. It's so weird how the size of a house can do that. Love the home tours!

Hi, Miranda! I bought them at Target! You know, it's funny, we have tons of friends that live in huge homes and they have encouraged us to move "up" as well. When we take a step back, we see the disconnect in some of their families. I feel like everybody just goes off to their own space and you really lose the family closeness. Thanks so much for stopping by!!!

Thanks do much for sharing your home! I, too live in a small space...400 square feet to be exact! I love to decorate and have a blue, white, soft turquoise color scheme. Love your grey, too. I've never used the chalky paint but will try it soon. I'm refinishing my cabinets and kitchen arrangement at the moment...have you ever painted your countertops? I have laminate but would love to have the look of marble or granite. Ideas?

I have painted my countertops in the past. We recently had new ones installed after saving up for them. There are tons of countertop paint kits that work really well. I love the one Rustoleum has as Lowe's.

I adore your home! I want to be a landscape architect so I love plants too :) Thank you so much for playing along and being a part of the tour!

Jessica! I love your home! Your office is in the perfect spot! I adore the pop of color! It is great to be on this tour with you!

So pretty and not so perfect that min doesn't instantly wonder what my kid will break. I envy your deeper desk. My goal is to so more of my desk and less electronics very soon. I have this annoying Ooma phone and a ELEPHANT sized black printer taking up my Zen-space. Thanks for opening up your home to all the snoopers in the world including myself.

HI Jessica.

Love the updated backsplash and it is exactly the look I am going for in my bathroom. It looks wonderful in your kitchen. I was wondering if you can share with us the painting technique and colors that you used on the updated kitchen backsplash. I am so anxious to get this project going.

Thanks for sharing.

Would you mind telling people where the updated wood planks are from? It isn't mentioned anywhere in this post.

Hi Jessica.. I'm a 68 year old grandma, living a real small budget. Can't afford anyone to remodel my tiny kitchen. Do have a DYI counter top suggestion? It has to be something I do myself.. Help please.

I love the vinyl backsplash idea so much! I saw it on Pinterest and Remodelaholic and just posted a blog about how I wanted to tackle it this weekend for my bathroom! I was thinking about trying to get a white washed look but not sure if I can achieve that on vinyl? But I also love your updated version and the color you used! Now I'm even more excited to attempt this! Curious how your chalk paint is holding up in your kitchen? I've been contemplating it but read different reviews.

Hi, Valerie! The chalk paint really held up. The key is to make sure you either wax it at the end or add a coat or two of polyurethane. Hope this helps! xoxo Jess

I love your casita!!!!!! Did you use the planks behind the stove too? I’m afraid it will melt.

For the peel and stick flooring used as the kitchen backsplash, how hard was it to remove them when you wanted to replace them? Did it do much damage to the wall?

They were really easy to remove, and other than pulling a little paint off, there wasn't much damage at all. I changed it out to a different peel and stick last year and it was pretty easy.

Love your back splash! I'm curious about the house you have your bananas and canisters in. Is it glass or just open? Where did you find that?

Thanks, Anne! It's a terrarium that I bought at IKEA years ago. I took out the side panels at one point and used it to house my canisters and bananas.

I based my whole kitchen remodel off that yellow, gray, tourquise fabric at our old house because of your kitchen, lol

Cozy Fall Home Tour with Vintage Farmhouse Style

Enjoy a beautifully styled fall home tour, combining vintage collections with rustic, natural elements to create a cozy welcome..

Fall home tour graphic

Autumn is here with all it’s beauty, and I’m soaking up the cooler temps and still enjoying my garden flowers! If these days could just last longer! It’s also the season for home decor bloggers to open their homes and share their beautiful, inspiring spaces. Pour yourself a hot cup of cider and enjoy a gathering of Fall decorated homes. Here’s my Cozy Fall Home Tour with Vintage Farmhouse Style.

I’m joining a talented array of ladies today with a wide variety of home decor styles. Thanks to Pasha from Pasha is Home for hosting us. If you’re visiting from This is Simplicite , I’m sure you were wowed by Mansa’s beautiful modern home, dressed in Fall neutrals. I’ll have the rest of the Fall Home tour posts at the end; I hope you can enjoy them all!

First, A Hello!

Hi, I’m Lora, and I love my home decor to have well-earned character. I’ve been scrounging curbsides and secondhand haunts for vintage finds way too long. I love reviving and repurposing anything old that someone else has given up on. I was a vintage dealer for many years and owned my own store with a friend for 5 1/2 years. It was a blast, but these days I enjoy sharing all my experience with my blog readers and on social media.

Love decorating and making the most of what you already have? You should stick around! Join my newsletter to keep the ideas coming! (it's free:)

My family and I live in a 100+ year old Fake Farmhouse on a couple acres. Even though it’s been 20+ years, we’ve still got projects to do! Hope you enjoy this Fall tour of our home.

Autumn decorated kitchen; the heart of the home.

Our remodeled farmhouse kitchen is indeed the heart of our home. We spent many years designing and remodeling it, mostly by ourselves and are still happy with how it turned out. I enjoy decorating it for each season.

Vintage collections combine with natural clippings from the yard for inexpensive style. We’ve been winding down the veggie garden so I have a lot of tomatoes and zucchini to deal with. I’m enjoying the last of the garden’s flowers, too. Picking fresh bouquets from our yard is one of my favorite things to do!

Kitchen Sitting Area

The end of our kitchen looks out to our wraparound porch. We have a cozy sitting area to enjoy the indoor/outdoor view. If you can squeeze a comfy, upholstered chair or loveseat into your kitchen , I’d highly recommend it. It’s the perfect spot for family and friends to chat while you’re finishing up the meal. {read my “9 Must-Haves for Creating a Cozy Sitting Area in the Kitchen “}

Vintage browns display

This built-in bookshelf was made with old cupboards that were my grandma’s. This year I was inspired by THIS brand new book and filled the shelves with an all brown collection of vintage. {See more in “Vintage Inspired Decorating Ideas with 57 Buttermilk Acres }.

Fall Decorated Dining Room

Finding the right combination of furniture pieces for your home that have the perfect balance of display and storage can be tricky. Our dining room is space challenged, but this past year I scored a set of upholstered dining chairs on FB marketplace. They are so comfortable compared to the old, hard chairs we had before.

Then I decided this room needed a piece that had both display and storage. I have a lot of stuff because I switch things up every season…and I have a weakness for dishes:) I found the perfect pine hutch on FB again and gave it a vintage-inspired makeover. I am loving being able to style this hutch for the seasons, and all the cupboards and drawers are very handy, too!

My vintage pottery collection fills the shelves this Fall. The table is set for a special brunch I’m having next week with my mom’s best friends. Since she passed away last year from ALS, I’ve been missing them. We’re going to celebrate her birthday and remember stories of her together; I can’t wait.

Fall Decorated Living Room

Last stop on today’s Fall home tour is our living room. It’s definitely cozy. I’ve filled it with plenty of architectural accessories, shabby chippy finds and vintage industrial style. The Fall decor embraces clippings from the yard: pampus grass, hydrangeas, and corn stalks and husks from a friend. I love mixing organic, natural touches with vintage finds.

Thrifted, handmade afghans provide coziness and seasonal color. Collections of old suitcases, globes and brown bottles add that timeworn, nostalgic touch. Lots of texture is what I love in the Fall!

See What People Are Saying

We came here with 3 adults and 7 children. You start with a house tour. We were nervous about the tour with all the kids. Thankfully, everyone found the tour interesting and not overly long. After that, we were able to wander the outside. It was much better than we expected not only did they have sample buildings of how the Amish live. They also had animals and some fun things for the kids. ( you have to try the scooters). Worth every penny. Happy to say we were not rushed through the outside and were able to enjoy at our own pace.

Review from TripAdvisor : Ellen B.

Being in Lancaster without going to the Amish Farm and House is like going to Paris and not seeing the Eiffel Tower or going to Rome and not seeing the Coliseum. The rich history of the Amish life and contributions of this religious group is revealed at the Amish Farm and House. The relics, furnishings, clothing, buildings, and memorabilia come alive through the great stories and explanations of the guides and curators working at this site. If you are In Lancaster for any reason, treat yourself for an hour or so at the Amish Farm and House and feel yourself slip back in time and be among a small group of compassionate people that helped build our nation in a special way.

SHE HOLDS DEARLY

Tour my home, welcome to our home.

A few years ago, my husband and I accidentally found and subsequently fell in love with a charming old farmhouse. Built in 1906, situated in the middle of four beautiful acres and boasting of a long list of our must-haves, we bought it on the spot. We have been busy ever since, restoring her to her former dignity and running our small farm. One of our dreams has been to redo an entire house using only thrifted, vintage finds and DIY projects. This has been our chance. To learn more details visit the Full Farmhouse Tour Before and After post.

Small modern farmhouse kitchen ideas – 7 ways to get this classic look in a bijou space

T he modern farmhouse aesthetic is a design trend that's set to endure. Blending traditional farmhouse style with a more modern finish, it's a theme that feels timeless with the ability to add your own flair.

It's proven particularly popular in kitchens – think oversized islands, glass-fronted upper cabinets, and plenty of space for hosting and socializing. If your kitchen is on the smaller size, it can feel like a difficult task to emulate the style in your space, but it's absolutely possible with a few key design elements.

We know it's never easy to plan a kitchen redesign, so we've asked interior designers to share their best small modern farmhouse kitchen ideas to offer up some useful inspiration.

Small modern farmhouse kitchen ideas

No kitchen is too small to create a beautiful design, and modern farmhouse kitchens are no exception. From smaller details and decor to colors and hardware, these ideas are sure to inspire.

1. Brighten the kitchen with warm neutrals

There are few avenues to explore when it comes to modern farmhouse kitchen colors, but if you are working with a smaller space, opt for warm neutrals to stick to the aesthetic palette while keeping a bright, airy feel.

'In a small modern farmhouse kitchen, I recommend a warm white paint for the walls and using your counter space sparingly to avoid a sense of clutter,' recommends Kathy Kuo, CEO of Kathy Kuo Home.

As well as helping to make your kitchen feel bigger, neutrals are timeless and pair with so many different hardware finishes. 'Instead of an abundance of decorative features on your surfaces, add visual intrigue with carefully chosen hardware on your cabinets and drawer pulls.' Opt for an aged brass or brushed gold finish on handles to create a balance of old and new on the cabinets – a warm white paint will allow them to really shine.

2. Choose a kitchen island over a dining table

In a traditional farmhouse kitchen, and subsequently many modern farmhouse kitchens, you'd find an island and a large table, a staple for socialising, preparing food and sitting down for meals. If you're working with a smaller space, it's unlikely you're going to be able to fit both, so picking just one will give you more space without loosing the essence of modern farmhouse style.

'Our grain farming clients asked to forgo their dining room space which you would see in a traditional farmhouse and opt for a large island instead.' says Kelsey Grose, founder and principal designer of Farmer’s Daughter Interiors.  Opting for a kitchen island over a table offers extra storage, which is an essential in smaller kitchens, while also providing multi-purpose space that can be used for both food prep and dining.

3. Make a feature of open shelving

Open shelving has been cropping up in lots of kitchen trends recently, but this decorative storage solution is a staple in modern farmhouse kitchens. It's also really handy if you are working with a smaller kitchen – wall-to-wall upper cabinets will instantly make a room feel much smaller and over crowded, despite offering storage.

The truth is, if you are used to a smaller kitchen, you probably have the amount of dinnerware and appliances that are appropriate for the space you have. As such, removing the upper cabinets and replacing them with open kitchen shelving actually won't make too much of a difference. Instead of hiding your favourite dinner sets, glassware and wooden cutting boards behind close cabinet doors, you can have them on display to enjoy even when you aren't using them.

4. Blend modern and traditional appliances

With less space, adding elements to the kitchen that clearly display traditional farmhouse style is crucial. Think about the larger appliances that are essential in any kitchen – the fridge, cooker, and even the taps. These are things you notice, and are often considered eyesores if they aren't considered properly in a design (no one likes a big white fridge stuck in the corner).

'A nice big range cooker is a must-have – an AGA type range is the real deal but a contemporary or industrial cooker is just as nice and gives a slightly more edgy and contemporary look,' says Helen Parker, Creative Director of deVOL Kitchens. 'Mixing old and new is perfect, so a nice new but retro style fridge such as a Smeg would work perfectly. Don’t be afraid to include some gadgets such as hot water taps and integrated bins, after all, you do want the kitchen to be easy and comfortable to work in, not filled with old cronky finds that look good but don’t really work.'

5. Create a focal point with a farmhouse sink

A big farmhouse kitchen sink certainly has a place in modernized spaces, and just because your kitchen is small doesn't mean you have to forgo this feature. An open front sink adds a wonderful focal point in a small kitchen, and can actually give the illusion of a larger space. It's a win-win!

'We placed the beautiful farmhouse sink on the feature wall as your eye is immediately drawn to this area of the room' explains Kelsey Grose. 'A concrete apron front sink is a reference to the original home – it can withstand the rigor of everyday farm life and draws your eye towards the brand new pantry space.'

The more traditional farmhouse sink has been paired with contemporary gold faucets to reintroduce the modern element while also creating a cohesive finish with the lighting a drawer pulls.

6. Combine old and new

The beauty of a modern farmhouse kitchen is bringing together traditional and contemporary style, so think about how you can incorporate this into different elements of the design. This can be trickier to do in a smaller space, but think about the materials you use throughout the kitchen and how they can add to the overall look.

'Modern farmhouse kitchens always work well when a combination of new and old vintage or antique pieces are used – whether you are trying to achieve a traditional or a contemporary look, this is essential,' explains Helen Parker. If you've gone modern with the kitchen counters, introduce antique utensil holders, aged copper pans or vintage cabinet handles to reintroduce that farmhouse character.

'Farmhouse kitchens tend to be much more authentic if the actual fabric of the room is old and filled with original features, possibly reclaimed or original flooring and typically styled windows and doors.'

7. Introduce a variety of materials and textures

When you think of a modern farmhouse kitchen, what comes to mind? What are the key components that create that timeless blend of old and new? 'Modern farmhouse style is my dream style of decorating. It's elegant but lived in, impressive but understated, eclectic but somehow cohesive,' says Tory Murphy.

When planning a small modern farmhouse kitchen, think further than appliances and cabinetry, consider the smaller details and how they will add to the overall aesthetic in a more compact space. 'When I think of the style, I think of natural materials – wood, stone, cotton, linen, wool – materials which are in keeping with their surroundings. Choose fabrics with texture and kitchen textiles with character,' she adds.

In this kitchen, these elements have been introduced through essentials such as tea towels and oven gloves, however, clever use of space sees some of those wooden pieces displayed in open storage – perfect for making use of every inch of space in a small modern farmhouse kitchen.

Having a small kitchen doesn't mean you have to compromise on style. The modern farmhouse kitchen style can be created in rooms of all shapes and sizes, it simply takes some creative thinking. Whether you lean into the warm color scheme, introduce classic farmhouse features, or add subtle details with vintage decor, no kitchen is too small!

The 27th annual Piedmont Farm Tour will be Saturday and Sunday, April 20-21, from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. both days.

Once a year these scenic and sustainable farms producing food, flowers, and fiber across seven piedmont counties open to the public to raise awareness of local agriculture and raise funds for Carolina Farm Stewardship Association (CFSA).

The farm tour is a great opportunity for kids, foodies, locavores, gardeners, new or aspiring farmers, locals, and visitors to connect with our farmers and gain a better understanding of what it takes to produce vegetables, fruits, meats, flowers, local foods, and value-added products that we all enjoy purchasing at local farmers’ markets.

This year’s farm tour features 30 farms, eight of which are on the tour for the first time. Complete details about the Piedmont Farm Tour are on the  CFSA website ,  including a list of all the farms and link to purchase a ticket.
