This company own flysharp and have robbed me of £9500. I booked 4 business class tickets to India. They did not advise British citizens need a visa despite booking 6 months in advance. As a travel agent they should have used their professional knowledge and curtesy to inform us properly. They have not used due diligence. When we arrived at the airport and were refused boarding. They pretty much didn’t care. Told us our tickets our non refundable and it’s our fault. Spent the night crying as we had saved for years for this. Heartless and cruel. Please don’t book with them. People who run a business from taking advantage of people should never be allowed to operate. It’s simply unethical.

A special Thanks to Ruchika. I have purchased airline tickets from Southall Travel over the years and have always received a very good service from Ruchika. She always looks into the dates that I give her and try’s to get a good deal. The only thing is that the company should consider payment by Amex. I am a bit disappointed that the company will not accept payment by Amex card. I highly recommend Southall Travel. Again, thank you Ruchika for your brilliant service over the years.

What a fantastic travel agency

What a fantastic travel agency, especially our agent Naina who has booked not just this trip to Dubai, but a fair few of our family holidays. Southall Travel are brilliant for Middle East and beyond. Don’t hesitate to contact Naina and the team: they really make your holiday work (for all budgets) with great ideas. Ask for Naina, customer service is exemplary.

My 4th or 5th time booking through Southall Travel and as usual, they got the deal we were looking for just right. I was doing a two part holiday which involved an AirBnB so I thought maybe I’d find a better deal myself booking directly or through booking.com but I’ve literally spent days glued to my screen searching for the best hotel deal and after 1 phone call to Southall and the trip is booked and paid for. Just so easy. Naina was my advisor this time and she was just the best I’ve had in 10 years. I’m very indecisive and made the poor lady search and amend my searches countless times but she done it all without ever making me feel bad about my constant changes. A proper customer service agent with a fantastic attitude. I hope that level of service gets rewarded at Southall because it’s so hard to find. Anyone looking to book a holiday, save yourself the headache and just book though this company or reputable agents. They’re worth it!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They are thieves and steal money from their customers! I paid a £150 deposit in good faith, which I was told was refundable should I not wish to go ahead my booking. I ended up booking tickets myself and they refused to give me my money back. I lodged a complaint and despite having evidence and their calls being recorded, they fobbed me off and keep telling me they will sort this out and get back to me. This has been going on for the last 6 months. Southall Travel are thieves and liars and should be ashamed of themselves.

I have had the worst experience of my life, also the most expensive flight I have ever paid for with AIR INDIA, returning home 03/02/23( Never again). I have booked Flights with Southall Travel since the 80's so felt I could still trust them for a good deal. Return Flights costing £3800.00 for crap seats with an 89yr old woman seated at the back of the plane who also needed wheelchair assistance is really disgusting behaviour. Never again, also asking many passengers how much they had paid £1300 was the most expensive !!! I have officially complained to Air India also. The cost of living these days are so difficult normally and as this wasn't an actual holiday, what a big mistake using your company, MG Innes

Scamming agency- DO NOT USE. They refuse to refund the money for a cancelled flight inspite of airlines saying they have refunded more than a month ago. We have also found out that they lie in their website about being register with ABTA for dispute resolution. This agency SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO OPERATE!!! AVOID at all cost! No point in contacting the customer service either!

No such thing as a "youth" ticket for 12-15 year olds Decided to book a holiday to Dubai at midnight and instead of booking directly on Emirates website we thought we'd call Southall Travel, knowing they'd be open. Wish we hadn't! We booked for 2 adults, a 12 year old and 5 year old. A 12 year old is classed as an adult, but when we went to check in, Emirates website said our eldest was booked on a child ticket. We called Southall Travel who assured us that our 12 year old was booked on a "youth" ticket and would be fine to travel. We called Emirates to check as we didn't want any problems at the airport. Emirates told us there is no such thing as a "youth" ticket and that Southall Travel would need to reissue the ticket as an adult ticket. Southall Travel wouldn't reissue the ticket so we asked them to send us an email to confirm that we wouldn't have any problems at the desk. We then spoke to a friend of ours who works for Emirates and she also said she'd never heard of a youth ticket before. We called ST again and asked them to reissue the ticket. After a few phonecalls, they did and we travelled to Dubai with no issues. However, we had the same issue on our return journey. This time, we managed to check in online fine, but when we went to check in at the desk, Emirates said the same thing, that our 12 year old had been issued a child ticket and not an adult ticket. They then asked us to go to the ticket desk at Dubai airport and speak with our travel agent. Again, after many phonecalls, no luck with ST. The man at the desk got fed up and said put the phone down I will issue you an adult ticket myself! Long story short, don't trust Southall Travel to book you a ticket for a 12-15 year old - as they class this as a "youth" ticket - when there is no such thing. What should have been a straight forward trip to Dubai, became a stressful experience - with many unnecessary phone calls between ST and Emirates, and also a 12 year old who thought we may not be able to travel! I definitely won't be using Southall Travel again and won't recommend it either. All of the travel consultants we spoke to were arrogant, patronising and unhelpful. I write this review so that other parents aren't faced with a similar situation.

DO NOT!!! use this firm. They took £15204.44 off me for £1520.04 flights and I then had to pay £240 to get it back. If you want trusted cheap flights use 'Google flights' Then you can book direct with the Airline.

Rubbish travel agent I booked tickets to travel to India via jet airways which failed while i was in India I contacted them and travel agent instead of helping started selling me tickets - return for £1700 pounds per person - Some of my friends bought it. I purchased new tickets to fly back and now I am claiming money via credit card chargeback scheme and this crooks are preventing them They are not ATOL protected and they sell tickets for airlines that is not ATOL protected too. so providing wrong information to customers Customer service remains poor and they do not have complaint procedure/policy or department. I have serious concerned about this travel agent. I am in process of reporting them for fraud.

I am angry I am hurt by southal travel treatment I was coustomer since 2012 My email was hacked so I created different e mail , by the time my phone contract was finished so I took different phone number it wasn't any other matters with change e mail and change phones I changed the address Iused to buy tickets and travel same name same everything Now I needed my 5 years travel history for official reason and called them in between seven days I spoke to 10 agents of southal travel I have e mail customer care but they didn't back me for neither call or email there was no luck what's so ever. I decided to talk to the manager one person came phone he introduced himself as manager called Reymond at first he seems genuinely want solve my problems he crossed check my previous number my previous address it was fine I was talking to him in Friday and promise me that he will give me by Monday . when Monday came he didn't call or email me again I called him and find out he was changed person data protection act he can't give it to me again I did offer him that any sort of documents driving license or passport which I always travel theare tickets I was so politely request them no luck I am amezed that the data they are talking about that's my data I am ready to verify even in court They are very unhelpful unprofessional I am very sad thire treatment

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. Once you have booked and they have your money they do not want to help you. They are not bothered about telling you they won't help you. The staff are rude and the managers are just as bad. The flights were cheap but it's not worth it. I will never use this terrible service again. I was using them to book flights for my wedding in Thailand. I can't undo my booking. I will ensure nobody else attending the wedding use them. I would advise you to look elsewhere.

Why has my prior review not been posted? Because Southall Travel has somehow had it removed? So that other consumers won't know that they are thieving criminals? I phoned my bank today, finally getting through. They were able to tell me that, contrary to Southall Travel's claims, no refund was ever issued. For three weeks this company has lied through its teeth to me, claiming money had been refunded but knowing full well it had not. My bank is launching an investigation. Please do not make the mistake of using this horrible company.

CORRUPT, FRAUDULENT CRIMINALS. Please don't make the mistake I did and have anything to do with them. I booked a flight with them online. They emailed me the next day and had me call them, when they told me that the flight wasn't available and actually I had to pay 200 extra pounds. I said no and they cancelled the flight. They informed me that the $700 I had paid would be back in my bank account within 72 hours. It has now been two weeks and no sign of my money. They are simply holding my money, which is utterly criminal and despicable. I have filed complaint with ABTA but doubt they will do much. Small claims court is my next step.

This company own flysharp and have robbed me of £9500. I booked 4 business class tickets to India. They did not advise British citizens need a visa despite booking 6 months in advance. As a travel agent they should have used their professional knowledge and curtesy to inform us properly. They have not used due diligence. When we arrived at the airport and were refused boarding. They pretty much didn’t care. Told us our tickets our non refundable and it’s our fault. Spent the night crying as we had saved for years for this. Heartless and cruel. Please don’t book with them. People who run a business from taking advantage of people should never be allowed to operate. It’s simply unethical.

What a fantastic travel agency

What a fantastic travel agency, especially our agent Naina who has booked not just this trip to Dubai, but a fair few of our family holidays. Southall Travel are brilliant for Middle East and beyond. Ask for Naina, customer service is exemplary.

My 4th or 5th time booking through Southall Travel and as usual, they got the deal we were looking for just right. I was doing a two part holiday which involved an AirBnB so I thought maybe I’d find a better deal myself booking directly or through booking.com but I’ve literally spent days glued to my screen searching for the best hotel deal and after 1 phone call to Southall and the trip is booked and paid for. Just so easy. Naina was my advisor this time and she was just the best I’ve had in 10 years. I’m very indecisive and made the poor lady search and amend my searches countless times but she done it all without ever making me feel bad about my constant changes. A proper customer service agent with a fantastic attitude. I hope that level of service gets rewarded at Southall because it’s so hard to find. Anyone looking to book a holiday, save yourself the headache and just book though this company or reputable agents. They’re worth it!

Defiance: Fighting the Far Right review – a powerful tale of British Asians who fought against racism

This documentary is an inspiring look at the astonishingly brave activists who took on the National Front in the 1970s and 80s – and changed Britain for the better. It’s full of dark parallels with today

W ith a prime minister, first minister for Scotland and London mayor all of south Asian descent the UK has changed dramatically in the 50 years since the events of Channel 4’s Defiance: Fighting the Far Right. While anti-British Asian sentiment is still rife – and you only have to look at the treatment of Britain’s cricket stars or read about the 31% pay gap between white men and Pakistani women to realise that we don’t live in a post-racial utopia – the progress made in the decades since the events of the programme is still staggering. Increased tolerance is not something that naturally evolved, however, and this three-part documentary shows how the British Asian community stood up to the racism that sought to destroy it – and fought for their right to live with dignity.

This series – co-created by Riz Ahmed’s production company and Rogan Productions, whose previous documentaries include Uprising – covers the period between 1976 and 1981 when the population in Southall, west London, was 50% Asian and the area was targeted by the National Front. It begins with the stabbing to death of the teenager Gurdip Singh Chaggar. His murder shook his community but was met by indifference by the police – and led to a bone-chilling threat from the former National Front chairman John Kingsley Read: “One down, one million to go.” When the people of Southall took to the streets in protest they found themselves confronted by far-right thugs and a police force uninterested in protecting them from the wave of violence.

Beyond these harrowing events the series looks at the murder of the 24-year-old textile worker Altab Ali; the killing of 33-year-old activist Blair Peach during an Anti-Nazi League demonstration; and the murder of an entire family in Walthamstow, north-east London. It chronicles the protests following Ali’s murder that were dubbed the “Battle for Brick Lane”, and the story of the Bradford 12, who had to take on the British justice system after they were found to be stockpiling weapons in preparation to defend themselves from an impending assault from the National Front.

It is a harrowing but powerful tale of a community that refused to turn the other cheek. It is one that has timely relevance given the efforts to suppress the protests against the slaughter in Gaza – with Rishi Sunak labelling marchers as extremist threats to democracy – and given that a (then) Tory MP claimed London’s British Asian mayor is under the control of “Islamists” .

The series refuses to allow a false narrative of “peaceful protests” that re-writes history into a cosier tale about multiculturalism. It is unacceptable to believe that rights for British Asians happened because of the goodwill of the majority – and thus erase the bravery of the activists who risked their lives because enough was enough. It also frames the period’s racism as extending far beyond the violent confrontations and depicts the more “respectable” face of bigotry in an era when brownface and Asian characters as objects of ridicule were rife on TV and politicians would legitimise the fear of a “different culture” threatening British identity.

The documentary features interviews with many of the activists of the time and elegantly cuts between footage of them during the era and as present-day talking heads reflecting back on their defiance. Particularly engaging is the testimony of Balraj Purewal, who founded the Southhall Youth Movement. He appears in archival footage as a young man with a spectacular set of sideburns, stating the importance of setting an example for the whole nation. In the present, he has lost none of his zeal, recalling that “we made Southall a no-go area for racists, but the rest of the country was watching”.

While the series honours the efforts of the activists, it does not congratulate Britain on a job well done. Even though the UK’s government doesn’t outwardly resemble the ones led by James Callaghan and Margaret Thatcher, there are still dark parallels. As Purewal puts it: “The political parties are falling over each other to be more anti-immigrant.”

As the third episode concludes and we are left at the start of the 1980s, there is a rocky road ahead for the British Asian community and the country as a whole. But it’s a moving and powerful reminder that what progress has been made is thanks to the moral fortitude of those who came before us. The bravery of these local heroes is something that the residents of Southall, Brick Lane, Walthamstow and Bradford can take pride in. And for the audience now, it’s a reminder that when you are surrounded by dehumanisation, it’s not enough to hope the passage of time will fix it, or that society will somehow evolve itself out prejudice. There is only one correct response to bigotry – and it is defiance.

Cannot fathom a worse experience from SOUTHALL TRAVELS

I had an urgent travel requirement and had booked flight tickets through Southall Travels (Flysharp). After receiving the booking reference number and having the amount deducted from our company's debit card, I was contacted by one of their agents, Pearl. Initially, she claimed that they had not received the payment and requested me to transfer the amount via bank transfer, providing a link for the transaction. Upon checking my bank account, I found that the amount had indeed been deducted. I immediately contacted my bank to confirm, and they affirmed that the deduction had occurred and could not be reversed. Subsequently, I attempted to make another transaction using my credit card, yet Southall Travels insisted that the payment had not been fully authenticated from their end. I find it perplexing that despite their initial verification process and the use of the payment link sent to my registered email address, they still could not authenticate the payment. After spending nearly two hours on the phone, they informed me that I would need to pay an additional £600 to proceed with the booking, citing the airline's cancellation of the reservation. It became evident that their motive was to secure extra last-minute booking fees. Their incompetence forced me to rearrange my travel plans and miss an important meeting. As a result of this experience, I have no intention of ever engaging with this company again, nor will I recommend them to others. As an international recruiter, I used to endorse Southall Travel to my clients, but their incompetence has not only lost them a customer but also tarnished their reputation.
