'Star Trek: Picard' Season 2 Cast and Character Guide: Who Plays Who in the Hit Sci-Fi Show

Some new faces and some old: All Star Trek.

With Star Trek: Picard Season 2 set to premiere on Paramount+ on March 3, 2022, knowing the cast and crew can be very helpful. Some of the cast are old faces coming back from quite a long hiatus, and others are new faces we are just now getting to know. This new series will challenge what we know of Star Trek history, and set Star Trek in a time that is very close to home, the 21st century. Related: ‘Picard’s Jeri Ryan and Michelle Hurd on Season 2, Season 3, and How They’re Currently Filming the Series Finale

Sir Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard

Sir Patrick Stewart is once again returning as the illustrious Jean-Luc Picard. After his experience with Star Trek: The Next Generation from 1987 to 1994 and the following movies in 1996, 1998, and 2002, Patrick Stewart continued to act in roles such as Professor X in the X-Men movies. Patrick Stewart returned to the Star Trek Universe in 2020 once again and has even signed on for a third season to carry the show through 2023.

Jean-Luc Picard has aged quite a bit since his last appearance, but since the events of Picard Season 1, he is now a perfectly healthy older Terran man. Picard’s history with Q makes this new season especially interesting, as the mischievous Q has always had an affinity for time travel. With multiple new timelines, and alternative timelines being set up, we will soon see how the aged Admiral (ret.) Picard will inspire a new crew across time and space.

Alison Pill as Dr. Agnes Jurati

Alison Pill is a Canadian TV and film actress who started her onscreen career in 1993 and has gone on to have important roles in The Newsroom and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World . Her more notable success has been on Broadway, having won a Tony for her role in The Lieutenant of Inishmore. While she has been confirmed to return in Season 2 of Picard , it is currently unclear how many episodes she will be in.

Dr. Jurati is an expert in robotics, and although she originally was not all the way in agreement with Picard, from the finale of Picard she seems to be completely committed now. She has been seen in a good number of scenes from the available trailers, and we can fully expect the lovable scientist who lacks street smarts to continue her enjoyable journey.

Santiago Cabrera as Cristóbal Ríos

Santiago Cabrera is a Chilean actor who has spent his career acting in the United States and the United Kingdom. Some of his popular roles have been Lancelot in Merlin, and Aramis in The Musketeers . Early in his life, Santiago Cabrera attended the Drama Centre London from 2000-to 2003, which is the foundation for his acting training. Besides his previously mentioned roles, Cabrera has had roles for television series, movies, and as well as a few video games and theatre productions.

In Cabrera’s role as Cristóbal Ríos, he was the pilot and owner of the ship La Sirena that the crew traveled in. A former Star Fleet officer, Cristóbal Ríos is no longer on the straight and narrow. This capacity has come in handy for Picard on more than one occasion, and with the transition to a new timeline, these skills may be even more useful.

Isa Briones as Soji

Isa Briones is an American actress who rose to fame through her role in Picard. She began her career in musical theater, with performances in Miracle on 34th Street as well as the Hamilton touring crews. She has also won the Ovation Award for her role in Next to Normal.

While her acting career has been quite short so far, her performance was excellent during Picard Season 1. While Soji has been a major part of the first season, we have seen very little of the character in the marketing material for Season 2. We will have to wait and see what she will do in the coming season.

Michelle Hurd as Raffi Musiker

Michelle Hurd is an American actress that has been active on the small screen since 1989. She has played parts in series such as The Glades , Daredevil , and Blindspot . She has spent a lot of time on the small screen but has yet to win any awards. Nevertheless, she is a great actress who will hopefully get the recognition she deserves soon.

Raffi Musiker is a former Star Fleet officer who served with Picard while he was still an active admiral. She is a highly skilled computer user, and researcher that often helps to puzzle out the solutions to difficult situations. This will make her a vital part of the team as the crew moves into the past.

Evan Evagora as Elnor

Evan Evagora is a young Australian actor who has performed in a number of different series and documentaries. He attended film school in South Melbourne and has participated in football as well as boxing. He is most well known for his role as Elnor. Elnor is a Romulan who was trained by the Qowat Milat and is working with Picard. He is an able warrior, and he originally grew up with Picard while he was a refugee on Vashti.

Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine

Jeri Ryan is an American actress most well known for her role as Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Voyager , for which she was nominated for the Saturn award four times and she won once. She has been acting since 1991 and has performed in series such as Dark Skies , Boston Public , and Body of Proof .

Jeri Ryan reprised her role in Picard Season 1 but was not a series regular. Seven of Nine has struggled to integrate out of Star Fleet and has grown a little rough around the edges. In Season 2, Picard may very well need someone with a rough edge as they are forced to travel throughout time.

John de Lancie as Q

John de Lancie is an American actor who has been an actor in film and tv series since 1975. He is probably most famous for his role as Q in Star Trek: The Next Generation , and Eugene Bradford in Day of Our Lives . He has been nominated for several awards for his acting and voice acting including the Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Actor in a Supporting Role in a Daytime Serial, which he won for his role in Day of Our Lives.

John de Lancie is reprising his role as Q, and will likely be up to his usual deadly shenanigans . We have already seen at least two time shifts from the trailers that have been released, and an encounter with Picard. Wherever this next season may lead, Q will undoubtedly be at its core.

Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan

Whoopi Goldberg is a highly decorated actress who has won an Emmy Award, a Grammy Award, an Academy Award, and a Tony Award. She has been acting since 1989 and is famous for her roles and time on shows such as The View , The Color Purple , and Sister Act .

Whoopi Goldberg will be reprising her role as Guinan. Guinan first appeared in Star Trek: The Next Generation , and has often been known to offer sage advice to Picard and others throughout time. Guinan is far older than most people are aware of, and has a history with both the Borg and Q. This history seems likely to be at the forefront of the next season of Picard , and we may finally get to know how Guinan became who she is.

Star Trek: Picard season 2: story, trailers, release date and everything we know

The stardate for Star Trek: Picard season 2 is March 2022

Star Trek Picard

Star Trek: Picard season 2 release date

Star trek: picard season 2 trailers, star trek: picard season 2 plot, star trek: picard season 2 cast.

Star Trek : Picard season 2 has a stardate! The ongoing mission of Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (retired) will resume on Paramount Plus in March 2022.

Jean-Luc will be joined on his sophomore voyages by some familiar faces from The Next Generation era – both friends and foes.

Most excitingly, John de Lancie is back to cause trouble as the omnipotent Q, but we’ll also see returns for the Borg Queen (now played by Annie Wersching) and Whoopi Goldberg’s Guinan. Brent Spiner, best known for playing android officer Data, is also back in a new, but as-yet-unidentified, role.

The Star Trek: Picard season 2 plot is set to take the former captain of the USS Enterprise-D where he’s never gone before – our present. He’ll travel back to 2024 to fix a 24th century that’s turned into a “totalitarian nightmare”, and he’s taking Cris Rios, Agnes Jurati, Seven of Nine and the rest of the newly assembled crew of La Sirena along for the ride.

With Picard’s latest adventure approaching Paramount Plus at something close to warp speed, we’ve analyzed Starfleet’s databanks to tell you everything you need to know about Star Trek: Picard season 2.

As a certain former Enterprise captain was so fond of saying: engage!

Spoilers lie ahead if you're yet to watch Star Trek: Picard season 1 .

Release date: Star Trek: Picard season 2 will debut for US viewers on Thursday March 3, 2022. It'll stream on Paramount Plus in the US and Amazon Prime Video in other territories.

Story: Jean-Luc Picard and the ragtag crew of La Sirena travel back in time to the 21st century to fix the timeline – with a bit of help/hindrance (depending on your point of view) from the god-like Q, Guinan and a Borg Queen.

Is there a trailer? A new Star Trek: Picard season 2 promo was unveiled in January 2022, in addition to the trailer that launched at September 2021's virtual Star Trek Day event, and two earlier teasers.

Star Trek: Picard season 2 release date: March 2022

Star Trek: Picard season 2 was originally supposed to go before the cameras in June 2020 – just a couple of months after the first season ended – until Covid-19 put everything on hiatus. Production on the 10-episode run eventually got under way in California in February 2021.

That delay means we'll have to wait a little longer than we'd originally hoped to see Jean-Luc back in the captain's chair, but our patience will soon pay off.

Star Trek.com confirmed in January 2022 that the Star Trek: Picard season 2 release date is Thursday March 3, 2022 . New instalments of the 10-episode run will be available on Paramount Plus every week and – as with season 1 – the show will stream on Amazon Prime Video the following day.

This is slightly later than the February 2022 launch date announced at September's Star Trek Day event. The tiny hold-up means Picard's second season will overlap for a few weeks with Star Trek: Discovery season 4 , which returns from a brief hiatus on February 10.

This is undoubtedly good news for Trek fans, however – this brief double hit of boldly going harks back to the glory days of the 1990s, when The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager ruled the stars.

Star Trek: Picard season 2 trailers: see Guinan and Brent Spiner’s latest Trek role

The first teaser for Star Trek: Picard season 2 was released during the First Contact Day event in April 2021. Alongside numerous Next Generation Easter eggs (including a model of Picard's first starship command, the USS Stargazer) the major reveal was that John de Lancie will be reprising his role as omnipotent superbeing Q.

"The trial never ends..." So excited to announce that I will be returning to visit my dear old friend Jean-Luc Picard in season 2 of Picard! @StarTrekOnPPlus @paramountplus @CTVSciFi @primevideouk @SirPatStew #StarTrekPicard #StarTrek pic.twitter.com/DOeBT8NkUW April 5, 2021

A more full-featured trailer featuring Stewart, de Lancie and other members of the cast was released on June 16, 2021. It doesn't give much away about the plot, other than suggesting that Picard and company are trying to stop a dark future from coming to pass.

We learned even more about Star Trek: Picard season 2 in the longer trailer unveiled at Star Trek Day – including a sighting of the Borg Queen...

And Paramount Plus have continued to spoil us, bringing out yet another trailer in January 2022. This one sees Whoopi Goldberg reprising her Next Generation role as Guinan – her request for “some tea, Earl Grey, piping hot” suggests she hasn't forgotten Picard's beverage of choice – and former TNG regular Brent Spiner playing a new character who looks a lot like an older version of Data. The question is, why is he talking with professional trickster Q?

Star Trek: Picard season 2 plot: Jean-Luc's new mission involves traveling back to 2024

star trek picard season 2 imdb

Red alert! Big spoilers for Star Trek: Picard season 1 follow – change course now if you haven’t seen it yet.

Jean-Luc Picard will be a new man in Star Trek – literally. When Picard’s human body succumbed to terminal Irumodic Syndrome, his consciousness was transferred into to an artificial ‘golem’ body created by Dr Altan Soong, the biological son of Data’s ‘father’, cybernetics genius Dr Noonian Soong. Although Soong Jr made it clear that the new body is effectively identical to the old one – it will still age and die, for example – it’s going to have an effect on the way the 90-something character approaches his life.

“I wanted to know exactly what they had done to me when they saved [Picard]’s life,” Patrick Stewart said in an interview with Gold Derby . “Was there any chance that this might have an impact on Picard’s personality or behaviour? [Executive producers Terry Matalas and Akiva Goldsman] felt it probably wouldn’t, but it lies there as an option should we need to take it. But also there is another human aspect being introduced in season 2, which I am not allowed to talk about. But it’s going to have, I think, quite an impact.”

With the first year’s main story arcs about a the Romulan Zhat Vash’s efforts to wipe out all Synthetic life and the reclaimed Borg Cube (now crash-landed on the Synthetic homeworld of Coppelius) now seemingly done and dusted, Star Trek: Picard season 2 is primed to seek out all-new worlds – and civilisations.

“Despite 178 episodes of TNG [The Next Generation] and four feature films, there are events coming up in season 2 that have never been seen before,” Stewart teased at First Contact Day.

It’s clear that not everything will be new, however, now that we know Q is back in Jean-Luc Picard’s orbit. A member of the omnipotent Q continuum , the mischievous character cropped up regularly in The Next Generation (and spin-off shows Deep Space Nine and Voyager) to make life as awkward as he could for Starfleet. He always took a particular interest in Picard, having put humanity on trial in TNG pilot ‘Encounter at Farpoint’ – an arc that was only partially resolved in series finale ‘All Good Things’.

It looks like Q will be continuing his self-convened legal proceedings in Star Trek: Picard season 2. “Do you recall what I said, Jean-Luc, when last we parted ways?” Q asks Picard in the latest season 2 trailer. “The trial never ends.” Not only do we learn that Picard and Q haven't met in the more-than-two-decades since Jean-Luc's days on the Enterprise-D, we know that the former Starfleet officer is “way too old for [Q’s] bulls**t.”

“Q's arrival is, as it often was, is unexpected,” said Stewart. “But it also comes at a shattering moment in the episode. And I do mean a shattering moment. Whether it's directly connected to Q or not, I'm not sure, but there is significant trauma. And in fact at the moment, I'm working on how the trauma of this moment hangs around Picard for quite a substantial part of the episode and then – there [Q] is.”

“In the same way that we have tried to do with Picard himself, Terry Matalas and I don’t pretend that the interstitial years [between The Next Generation and Picard] didn’t happen,” executive producer Akiva Goldsman told the Hollywood Reporter . “Obviously, chronological time is less relevant to Q. But we definitely chose to follow suit when it came to him, so as we tried to evolve the other characters, the same is true of Q. This is a show of a different time with actors of a different age. We’re now talking about the issues that come up in the last [stage] of your life. We wanted a Q that could play in that arena with Picard.”

Goldsman also described Q as a “trickster god” and expanded on the importance of Picard’s relationship with Q. “There’s a lot of discussion in [Star Trek: Picard] season 2 about the nature of connectedness,” he said. “Q’s kind of a great lightning rod for that because in some ways he’s one of Picard’s deepest… not deep in the same way that Riker is or Beverly Crusher was but in its own [way, a] uniquely, profoundly deep relationship.”

Jean-Luc Picard with his new crew: Soji Asha, Elnor and Dr Agnes Jurati.

Picard's relationship with Q may be deep, but it's also problematic. In the Star Trek: Picard season 2 trailer that debuted in September 2021, Jean-Luc says that "Q went back in time and turned our world into a totalitarian nightmare,” amid scenes of a drastically changed 24th century. Seven of Nine – now without the residual Borg implants on her face – points out that “time has been broken”. Picard adds that, “The only way to heal our future is to go back and repair the past.”

This means a trip back to 2024, where Picard and his newly formed crew will have “three days before the future is changed irrevocably” – and Seven of Nine will have to take a crash course in driving a car.

Perhaps the biggest surprise unveiled in the Star Trek: Picard season 2 trailers is that Jean-Luc's route back to the 21st century involves the Borg Queen – though it's yet to be revealed whether this is the Borg Queen from Star Trek: First Contact, the one presumed dead after Voyager's return from the Delta Quadrant, or some other incarnation. It could just be that we're guilty of thinking in [merely] three-dimensional terms...

Whichever Borg Queen it is, time travel is familiar territory for Star Trek, the most famous examples coming in Star Trek 4 (where Kirk and crew travelled back to 1980s San Francisco) and First Contact (where Picard fought the Borg in 2063). Expect plenty of culture clash comedy/drama as Jean-Luc and his highly sophisticated 24th century companions get used to slumming it present-day Earth.

One major difference between Star Trek: Picard season 2 and its first year is that this time Jean-Luc – now long-retired from Starfleet – has his own crew. We probably shouldn't be surprised, then, if the new season feels more of an ensemble show, with more time devoted to Cris Rios, Raffi Musiker, Soji Asha, Dr Agnes Jurati, Elnor and Seven of Nine. Integrating all of them – and new characters – into the narrative will be one of the new season’s hardest missions.

“It has to be focused on Picard but have room for all the other characters,” season 1 showrunner Michael Chabon told the Hollywood Reporter . It’s never going to be just a show about the crew of a starship that's part of Starfleet and everyone's wearing uniforms and they're flying around, encountering alien life and weird planets. Those are the challenges we face going into season 2, and I'm so excited about the story we’ve come up with.”

And for any viewers who were left underwhelmed by the season 1 finale, the production team have hopefully found a solution going into Star Trek: Picard season 2.

“Figure out the end earlier!” Goldsman said when the Hollywood Reporter asked what the team had learned from their first year. “If you’re going to do a serialized show, you have the whole story before you start shooting. It’s more like a movie in that way – you better know the end of your third act before you start filming your first scene.”

Surely that's good advice for every screenwriter.

Star Trek: Picard season 2 cast: Q, Guinan, the Borg Queen and other returning characters

This is the crew manifest for Star Trek: Picard season 2 as it stands:

  • Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard
  • Alison Pill as Dr Agnes Jurati
  • Isa Briones as Soji Asha
  • Michelle Hurd as Raffi Musiker
  • Santiago Cabrera as Cris Rios
  • Evan Evagora as Elnor
  • Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine
  • John de Lancie as Q
  • Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan
  • Annie Wersching as the Borg Queen
  • Brent Spiner as a new member of the Soong dynasty

The show was always built around the star power of Sir Patrick Stewart, and we don't expect that to change second time out. He’ll be joined in the Star Trek: Picard season 2 cast by his regular La Sirena crew: Michelle Hurd (Raffi Musiker), Santiago Cabrera (Cris Rios), Evan Evagora (Elnor), Alison Pill (Dr Agnes Jurati), and Isa Briones (Soji Asha). Star Trek: Voyager veteran Jeri Ryan will also be back as former Borg Seven of Nine.

It was confirmed at September's Star Trek Day that Seven will come face-to-face with another former member of the Collective, as the trailer introduced the latest iteration of the Borg Queen. Annie Wersching (Tess in the The Last of Us videogame) takes over the role from Alice Krige (Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Voyager) and Susanna Thompson (Star Trek: Voyager).

In addition to the returning John de Lancie as Q, there are some other The Next Generation veterans heading back to the Final Frontier.

The first is Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan.

Stewart formally invited his former co-star to join the Star Trek: Picard season 2 cast during an appearance on Goldberg’s US TV show, The View . “It was wonderful having you, and we cannot wait to have you with us again one more time," said Stewart.

Officially the bartender in Ten Forward, the Enterprise-D’s bar/relaxation area, Guinan (a centuries-old El-Aurian) was Picard’s confidante. She also had little time for Q, so it’ll be intriguing if they end up colliding with each other in the new season.

And although Brent Spiner said he'd played the android Data for the last time in Star Trek: Picard's first season – “I wouldn't really entertain the idea of doing [Data, an ageless character] again because I just don't think it would be realistic,” he told TV Guide – he is back in season 2. So who's he playing?

“I can tell you I'm not Data,” Spiner told Inverse . “I know they haven't revealed much about me being in the show. I can tell you I'm a member of the Soong family. And, that I'm not playing a character I've ever played before.”

In the words of Data himself, this is "most intriguing".

Alongside his most famous role as the Enterprise's resident artificial human, Spiner has also played Data's android ‘brothers’ Lore and B-4 – as well as their creator, Dr Noonian Soong and his 22nd century ancestor, Arik Soong. He also appeared in Star Trek: Picard season 1 as a new member of the family (and AI expert), Dr Altan Inigo Soong.

So who is this mysterious new character? We're ruling out a new model android, because if Spiner's too old to play Data, he's too old to play another robot. But could the character be Altan's human brother in the Picard era, a new person in the new, alternative, dystopian 24th century, or a great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandparent (approx) living in the 21st century? The latest trailer certainly suggests the latter and – seeing as both Picard and Soji (one of Data's daughters) have connections to Data – they'd surely have an interest in meeting an ancestor.

As for the rest of the Next Generation crew, the one star certain to return is Jonathan Frakes – though not necessarily on screen. He confirmed to TrekMovie that he’s back to direct a pair of Star Trek: Picard season 2 episodes, but claimed that he wasn’t sure whether he’d be back on screen as Captain William Riker after his memorable appearances in the debut season.

The time travel element of the story may make make bringing the Next Generation cast harder this time out, but if Riker does return, it’s a safe bet Marina Sirtis will be back as his screen wife, Deanna Troi.

But what about Worf, Geordi LaForge and Dr Crusher?

Thanks to the amount of time the role requires in the make-up chair, Michael Dorn said he’d only be up for returning as the Federation’s resident Klingon, Worf, if it was really worthwhile.

“I’m only interested in if it’s something really interesting,” he told Inverse . “If the character was a major part of the franchise or whatever the show is. He’s not just going to show up, beat somebody up, and then go home.”

While Worf’s status is ambiguous, two cast members have seemingly ruled themselves out of a return.

In April 2021, LeVar Burton told Whoopi Goldberg on The View (via TrekMovie ) that, “I can say unequivocally that I am not doing season 2 of Picard” – though it’s important to add that he hasn’t ruled out an appearance as Geordi La Forge in a future season.

And there’ll be no return (yet) for Gates McFadden – which means that Star Trek: Picard season 2 won’t be able to explore the status of Jean-Luc’s will they/won’t they relationship with Dr Beverly Crusher.

“I’m not in the second season,” she told TrekMovie . “I’m sad that I’m not. I’m disappointed because it would have been so much fun to just work with those people. But we’ll see. I have no idea…”

But don’t give up hope just yet, because this could be a clever deployment of smoke and mirrors. Marina Sirtis claimed she wasn’t going to be in the first season of the show and look what happened there…

Cris Rios at the helm of La Sirena.

Star Trek: Picard season 3 has also been confirmd

Star Trek: Picard season 2 won't be the end of Jean-Luc's story – the show's Star Trek Day panel confirmed that a third season has been given the greenlight by Paramount Plus.

StarTrek.com confirmed in January 2022 that season 3 is currently in production, and it's likely to be the show's last. "The plan was always three,” co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman told TrekMovie .

Star Trek: Picard season 2 showrunner: there's a change at the helm

According to an interview in Variety , Michael Chabon won't be as heavily involved in season 2 of Star Trek: Picard as he was in the first. While he's shifted much of his attention to a Showtime series based on his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, however, he will continue to give notes to the writers.

"I’m still an executive producer on Picard," he said. "I’m writing two episodes. I was there breaking the second season, all the way through. I was engaged, I think, to exactly the same degree as I was on the first season."

Terry Matalas, a veteran of Twelve Monkeys and MacGyver will take over as the Star Trek: Picard season 2 co-showrunner, alongside the returning Akiva Goldsman.

Star Trek: Picard will be available to watch from February 2022, on Paramount Plus in the US and Amazon Prime Video in the rest of the world.

Warning: This article contains STAR TREK: PICARD spoilers.

Star Trek: Picard Season 2 Episode 1

For all the bluster and bleakness of its initial trailers and promos surrounding the Star Trek: Picard Season 2 premiere, the actual episode itself is a fairly low-key return for the show. To be clear: “The Star Gazer” is largely excellent, offering us rich and rewarding character moments and the return of several old faces from our collective Star Trek: The Next Generation days, even as it sets up what are ostensibly the main arcs of the season. But it does very much take its time getting going, and if you were waiting on the edge of your seat for things the Season 2 trailers promised (what appears to be time travel, the return of John de Lancie’s famous badass god-being Q), well, you were waiting a while.

Instead, “The Star Gazer” is an episode that looks inward before it ever begins to plot outward, and Picard as a whole remains a show that is much more concerned with themes and ideas than it is specific story beats or narrative explanations. (This isn’t a bad thing, by any stretch, but having this show and Star Trek: Discovery on at the same time is definitely something of a study in contrasts.) For example, the multiple meanings of the episode’s title—which references Picard’s childhood longing to go to the stars, his first Starfleet command, and the ship Rios captains now—works great thematically throughout the hour, and there’s a certain sense that Picard’s arc will follow a similar pattern of looking backward and forward at the same time.

There’s a certain Shakespearean aspect to the Picard character we meet in the Season 2 premiere, a man who—though Picard itself almost plays down many of the biggest game-changing elements from the Season 1 finale —doesn’t know quite who this new version of himself is. The idea that becoming a synth has changed him in some significant way is implied but never directly stated, and if, for whatever reason, you only started watching this show at this particular moment, you might not even catch that there’s anything, well, let’s just say not entirely human about him . (To be fair, the show was incredibly vague about how that would all play out anyway. But still.)

Ad – content continues below

Admittedly, I’m not entirely sure that I buy the idea that Picard has spent his life so obsessed with the allure of exploring the stars that he’s closed off his heart to love and emotional connection. Even if you ignore his handful of Next Generation flings or the literal years of shared sexual tension with Beverly Crusher, there are still many other multiple worthwhile kinds of love and intimacy that matter just as much as romance or sexual attraction. So the idea that Picard’s life has somehow been an empty one because he doesn’t have a wife or girlfriend in it when he was surrounded by so many of these other kinds of deeply important connections is…well, let’s just say not entirely something I agree with.

But, thankfully, Patrick Stewart can honestly sell me anything, and if he wants me to believe that Jean-Luc Picard is having some sort of existential romantic crisis because reasons, well, I guess I’m here for it. Plus, I 100% support the idea that even though he is pushing 100 years old at this point, people everywhere just still want to mack on Picard. (Even Lahris the apparently recently widowed Romulan who wants to honor her dead husband Zhaban by romancing her boss/business partner/however this whole Chateau Picard situation works.) And the idea that he still deals with these sorts of problems by heading to a bar to get drunk with Guinan. For what it’s worth, Whoopi Goldberg’s return is pitch-perfect, and if this whole episode had just been the two of them getting sloppy and gossiping that would have been totally fine.

How Star Trek: Picard Keeps Its Trek Continuity Together

The Enterprise in Star Trek: The Original Series

Star Trek Canon Just Changed the Way Its Galaxy Works

Of course, the Picard premiere has bigger issues to wrestle with than the question of Jean-Luc’s love life and subsequent mental state. After a rapid-fire catch up with our La Sirena faves—Raffi and Seven of Nine’s relationship is still very firmly in the “it’s complicated” category, Dahj is some sort of synth diplomat, Elnor (still hot) is joining Starfleet, and Rios is a captain in his own right—everyone is suddenly brought together thanks to the appearance of a strange space anomaly (very different from the one wreaking havoc over on Discovery , thank goodness.) This is caused by something that can apparently rip holes in the very fabric of space-time and between the incredibly advanced technology and the very obvious bright green glow, I truly have no idea how it took everybody so long to figure out the Borg were involved.

Many of the best moments of Picard Season 1 were centered around the Borg in some way—Picard’s still-lingering trauma from his assimilation, Seven’s struggle to make a life for herself outside of the shadow of her Borg status, the Artifact that Hugh and his team excavating—so the fact that so much of this season feels like it will also involve the Borg is very exciting. Particularly because “The Star Gazer” is already asking the best kinds of Star Trek questions: At what point, if any, do these beings that I have long considered my worst enemies deserve a second chance?

After all, Klingons and Romulans now both play a key role in the world of the Federation and Starfleet, and both were once humanity’s deadliest adversaries. Of course, this is the Borg we’re talking about, and the idea that this species, who have done such harm to characters we care so deeply about, could ever be part of the Federation is on its face fairly repulsive. But…isn’t that exactly the kind of lesson Picard the man and Picard the show have repeatedly asked us to wrestle with? Plus, the fact that the (admittedly extremely awesome looking) faceless Borg Queen manages to drop Picard’s lifelong “look up” mantra just before the Stargazer blows up is certainly a hint that something bigger than we understand is going on.

Which, of course, brings us to the Q of it all. Look, John de Lancie’s return is everything we could have possibly wanted it to be in the scant minutes of screentime we’re given this week. He is basically the very definition of “still got it”. And truly, the nod to the fact that we’re all a bit older now and therefore even the immortal Q needed to be aged up a little bit to “match” his nemesis Picard was absolutely perfect.

Given the changes at Chateau Picard during the episode’s final moments, it’s clear that we’re in some sort of alternate timeline or alternate universe, but what exactly has happened, why Q has chosen this moment to involve himself in his old nemesis’ life (or death, depending on how you view the Stargazer’s explosion) or what Picard’s meant to do in this legitimately alien new world are all unclear. But I can’t wait to find out some of the answers.

Seven Of Nine & Raffis Star Trek: Picard Love Story Origin Revealed By Michelle Hurd

  • Jonathan Del Arco's photo of Michelle Hurd and Jeri Ryan sparked the romance between Raffi Musiker and Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Picard.
  • The love story between Raffi and Seven was not originally planned but was added after Del Arco's photo caught the showrunners' attention.
  • Michelle Hurd and Jeri Ryan's chemistry in the photo led to the creation of an unexpected romance storyline in the series.

Star Trek: Picard 's Michelle Hurd reveals how the love story between Lt. Commander Raffi Musiker and Jeri Ryan's Seven of Nine came to be. Hurd played the troubled but noble Raffaela "Raffi" Musiker in all three seasons of Picard , and Raffi was the only original character created for the series who was in every season. At the end of Star Trek: Picard season 1, Raffi and Seven were seen holding hands, sparking a romance that was explored in Star Trek: Picard season 2, although their relationship cooled off in Star Trek: Picard season 3.

It turns out Raffi and Seven was a match made by Jonathan Del Arco, who played Hugh, the former Borg in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Picard season 1. At a Calgary Expo panel hosted by Collider , Michelle Hurd explained that Seven of Nine and Raffi Musiker's romance wasn't originally planned, but Del Arco snapping a photo of Hurd and Jeri Ryan together and showing it to Star Trek: Picard 's showrunners prior to season 1 led to a love story between Seven and Raffi being added to the show. Read Hurd's quote below:

I believe it was at the San Diego Comic-Con, that same event, which was huge and fantastic. And they had a green room, a space where all the actors and everybody goes to get ready for whatever. And Jeri was in this fantastic red dress. She was absolutely gorgeous, and I was wearing a white Helston jumpsuit, so I didn't look too bad myself. And were friends, I adore her, and we were standing together and I kind of put my arm around her waist and I kind of gave her a squeeze. And Jonathan Del Arco, Hugh, [and] Jeri's manager is Jonathan's husband. So we're all friends, with Kyle [Fritz]. So Jonathan was standing over there, and he was like, Oh my God, look at me. And so we both just looked at him, and he took a picture. And then, I swear to God, he took that camera, walked right over to our producers, Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman, [and] Michael Chabon. Were all sitting right there, and he said, You guys look at how big these two look together.

Michelle Hurd continued her story and said that Star Trek: Picard 's showrunners immediately approached her and Jeri Ryan and told them, "'Ladies, we have an idea,' and that’s how [Seven and Raffi''s romance] started."

Star Trek Picard Season 3 Ending Explained (In Detail)

Seven of nine & raffi's future depends on star trek: legacy, "raffi loves seven," confirms michelle hurd.

Star Trek: Picard season 3 ended with Captain Seven of Nine in command of the USS Enterprise-G and Commander Raffi Musiker as her First Officer. That setup is rife with dramatic (and comedic) potential, especially as it's the first time a couple is in command of a starship. However, Star Trek: Picard 's proposed spinoff, Star Trek: Legacy , has not been greenlit as a series , although there is talk it could instead become a 2-hour Star Trek streaming movie on Paramount+ . If Star Trek: Legacy ever happens, Hurd told Calgary Expo via Collider what she'd like to see of Seven and Raffi commanding the Enterprise:

It would be an amazing thing to see that kind of dynamic, to see the respect that each other has to have for each other's space as well as, [some] jealousy[...] I think it would be a phenomenal story. So I can't say for sure whether there's going to be, you know, a white picket fence. But if you're asking Raffi, theres a white picket fence.

Even if audiences never see Seven of Nine and Raffi Musiker together again, Michelle Hurd is confident about how their love story will bear out. Hurd said that she and Jeri Ryan have discussed Raffi and Seven's relationship at length, and Michelle reminded Jeri, " You do understand that Raffi loves Seven, period. End of discussion.’ She will love Seven [until] the end of time. " Star Trek: Picard created something special between Seven of Nine and Raffi Musiker, but fans can thank Jonathan Del Arco for seeing the vision and snapping the photo that set it all in motion.

Seven Of Nine & Raffis Star Trek: Picard Love Story Origin Revealed By Michelle Hurd

Screen Rant

Star trek: discovery’s pilot just joined enterprise’s legacy.

Keyla Detmer hasn't had a lot to do in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, but episode 5 did allow her to become part of the USS Enterprise's legacy.

Warning: This Article Contains SPOILERS for Star Trek: Discovery Season 5, Episode 5 - "Mirrors"

  • Keyla Detmer piloted the ISS Enterprise in Star TrekL Discovery season 5, joining the ranks of Enterprise helmsman in the process.
  • The USS Enterprise has had other notable helmsmen like Sulu and Geordi La Forge across different versions.
  • Discovery provided Detmer with the chance to pilot a version of the Enterprise, filmed on the set of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5 enabled the show's pilot, Keyla Detmer (Emily Coutts) to join an important legacy for the USS Enterprise. Detmer has been the helmsman of the USS Discovery since season 1, and an integral part of Discovery 's cast of characters up through season 5 . Although she has largely been a supporting character on Discovery , Detmer has still enjoyed some important moments, including a few memorable subplots in both seasons 1 and 3.

Despite Detmer not appearing in Discovery season 5, episode 5 , the show bestowed an important milestone on her off-screen. Episode 5 saw the retrieval of the Mirror Universe's ISS Enterprise after a clue in the search for the Progenitor's technology led Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Cleveland Booker (David Ajala) to a heated confrontation with L'ak (Elias Toufexis) and Moll (Eve Harlow) on the abandoned ship. Discovery managed to save the Mirror Enterprise from interdimensional space , and Captain Burham assigned Lieutenant Commander Detmer and Owosekun (Oyin Oladejo) to take it back to Federation Headquarters.

5 Ways Star Trek: Discovery’s Mirror Enterprise Is Different From USS Enterprise

Star trek: discovery’s pilot commander detmer is the latest enterprise helmsman, detmer flew the iss enterprise in discovery season 5.

Thanks to episode 5, Detmer has joined the ranks of those who had piloted a version of the Enterprise in Star Trek history . Detmer could have had the opportunity to pilot the USS Enterprise during Discovery season 2, especially considering that its Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) , was a main character on the show. Discovery 's time jump to the 32nd century made any further encounters with the Prime Universe's Enterprise impossible, but season 5 finally gave Detmer the chance to be included in the category of legendary Enterprise helmsman.

It seems Discovery has given Detmer the chance to pilot the only Enterprise she will likely ever get to during the rest of the show's run.

Although the ISS Enterprise is different from the Prime Universe's USS Enterprise, the two are similar enough that Discovery filmed episode 5's Enterprise scenes on the set for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds , which is set on the USS Enterprise in Discovery 's old time period, the 23rd century. It seems Discovery has given Detmer the chance to pilot the only Enterprise she will likely ever get to during the rest of the show's run. Of course, Detmer piloting any version of the USS Enterprise is still a huge honor, considering which characters she shares the distinction with.

Star Trek’s Enterprise Helmsmen Explained

The uss enterprise has had some notable helmsmen.

The various versions of the Enterprise have had some incredible helmsmen, and the ship has the interesting distinction of being piloted by two father-daughter teams at different times . The most famous Enterprise Helmsman is, of course, Hikaru Sulu (George Takei) from Star Trek: The Original Series . Sulu and his other versions, including his Mirror Universe counterpart, faithfully piloted the Enterprise for many years of the franchise's timeline, and Sulu's daughter, Demora (Jacqueline Kim) took on the task years later during Star Trek Generations .

Sulu isn't the only famous character to have been an Enterprise helmsman, however. Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton) was the initial helmsman for the USS Enterprise-D in Star Trek: The Next Generation , and like Sulu would share the honor with his daughter, Sidney (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut) who took on the role in Star Trek: Picard season 3. More recently, Strange New Worlds introduced Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia) as the helmsman under Captain Pike. Ortegas has proved to be one of Star Trek 's best pilots and a memorable addition to the Enterprise pilot ranks , similar to Detmer on Star Trek: Discovery .

Michael Dorn Wanted Armin Shimerman To Play The Ferengi That Worf Killed In Star Trek Picard

Worf, Sneed, and Quark - TrekMovie

| April 26, 2024 | By: Anthony Pascale 28 comments so far

Earlier this week, TrekMovie’s All Access Star Trek podcast team spoke to  Star Trek: Deep Nine Star  Armin Shimerman along with his wife (and DS9) guest star Kitty Swink, TNG vet Jonathan Frakes, and television writer/producer Juan Carlos Coto, brother of late Enterprise  writer/producer Manny Coto. They had all gathered together to talk about the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and their team Trek Against Pancreatic Cancer for the Purple Stride walk this Saturday, April 27th. During the wide-ranging chat, Shimerman told a funny story about a suggestion for him to appear in the final season of  Picard .

Armin says no to Worf chopping off his head

The subject of how other actors have played Ferengi in some of the new Star Trek shows came up, including the character Sneed in the latest season of Star Trek: Picard . Armin Shimerman had nothing but “kudos” for actor Aaron Stanford, who played Sneed:

“I was in awe. It was just astounding.”

Aaron Stanford as Sneed in  Picard ‘s “Disengage” (Paramount+)

Kitty Swink then prompted her husband to tell the “Dorny story.” Armin obliged, retelling this conversation he had with his former DS9 co-star:

“Before they cast [Sneed], [Michael] Dorn me up and said ‘I’m doing an episode of Picard where I kill off a Ferengi? Wouldn’t it be great if it were you.’ [laughs] I said, ‘No, it would not be great.’ I told him to just forget about that idea, altogether.”

TrekMovie confirmed with Swink and Shimerman that Dorn was suggesting Armin play Sneed on Picard , not that he reprise his DS9 role as Quark. After others noted the scene was rather brutal—it involved Worf cutting Sneed’s head off, Swink jumped in again:

“I got to say, for all the times I have baked bread for Michael Dorn, that was really a shitty thing for him to say.” [laughs]

Jonathan Frakes tried to be diplomatic, suggesting Dorn might have not known Worf was going to cut off Sneed’s head, but Armin said Michael was at least sure Worf was going to kill the character. Frakes (who appeared in every episode of Picard season 3 and directed 2 episodes) noted Sneed was still somewhat based on Quark, complimenting Shimerman on the layers he brought to a previously unsympathetic species:

“The tightrope you walked—all levity aside—to represent what [Gene] Roddenberry thought of as this despicable capitalist pig with huge ears. And yet the humorous, smart, charming, cleve—all the qualities that Quark had and still be an essentially a villain, and do it through rubber. It takes a special actor, which you are.”

High praise for return on Lower Decks

Shimerman has had a recent return to the franchise, voicing Quark for the season 3 episode “Hear All, Trust Nothing” of Star Trek: Lower Decks . During the podcast discussion, the actor talked up his experience:

“I did have fun, and I did get to ad lib. It was a great, great, great fun. And they couldn’t have been nicer. They were very sweet. And both Nana [Visitor] and I were very touched that they wanted to make it a tribute to Deep Space Nine . The opening sequence of shooting the station brought tears to both of our eyes because it was just so nostalgic. And we love working there. It was a it was a great, great experience. It couldn’t have been nicer.”

Interview: ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Writer Carlos Cisco On Unmasking The Breen And Revisiting The ISS Enterprise

I think that would have been one of the most divisive moments in Trek history had it happened.

Agreed. They could have called that Ferengi ANYTHING but as soon as Worf’s blade went through his neck, it would’ve been “Worf killed Quark!” and I don’t think I could have ever forgiven him (Worf or Dorn).

I think it would have been cool. It’s not Dorn killing Shimerman, it’s Worf killing Sneed. People are being real weenies about this.

It has to be a joke. Seriously.

My recommendation would be no one listen to Michael Dorn regarding casting and plot ideas.

I wish I could upvote this a thousand times.

Dorn had mentioned to Shimmerman in jest. I do not believe he was serious about having Worf do that. The two are friends in real life – it was just a joke between the two. Dorn never suggested it to the scriptwriter or director. Don’t read too much into it.

I know I’m about to be verbally pummeled, but is there that much adoration for Quark out there? I wouldn’t have minded him having a cameo to be killed off, ala Shelby. Just imo, I don’t feel a great affinity for the character. No shade on Armin Shimerman either, by the way. He played the role to a tee.

I liked Quark, but I feel that having any main character killed off in such a fashion would be a bit shitty. Shelby only appeared in two episodes (even if the character was featured in the books more), so it would be a bit different for the fans. Just think back to the way fans reacted to the deaths of Jadzia or Trip, and they at least died in their own shows.

I can dig that. It would have certainly been an emotional punch. It did suck quite a bit when Jadzia left us.

it would also be a very weird dramatic turn for Quark after the character development he displayed in DS9 – to then be in such a state that Worf would kill him

I like Quark as much as any Star Trek character but it really has nothing to do with that. Having any character show up and do something the audience KNOWS they wouldn’t so you can generate a cameo out of it is sooooooooo lazy and apathetic about the world they’ve built. This is the kind of thing new star trek does a little too much. I’m not against writing a character out….I’m against things that suck and that would’ve.

Yes, well put. And part of the reason I asked that was exactly because I would expect that from these showrunners, kill off a main legacy character simply because they can. It is totally lazy if it’s simply done ‘just because.’

Quark is one of the most popular characters of the 1990s-era Star Trek.

Quark and Worf were on DS9 together for years and never seemed to have any serious beef. Worf was very conscientious; Quark was an okay guy for a Ferengi, not one of the really scummy ones. So what exactly would precipitate Worf to lop Quark’s head off, that wouldn’t mangle one character or the other?

Quark is the classic anti-hero. Sure he plays the villain but in the end, he always manages to do the right thing. And in TOS and TNG everyone is beyond good. Quark was the first main Trek character to be dubious. Those are just a few reasons why he is so beloved.

I prefer Sneed. He was an interesting character. I don’t want to see Quark beheaded. Luckily, they didn’t go that route.

Sneed seemed more like Roddenberry’s original intent for the Ferengi. Too bad he was barely on screen, he was a fantastic villain, probably the best of the series.

Anybody read above? Nobody was going to kill Quark, Armin would have been playing Sneed. So, uh what??

I caught that, but as you can see, many, many, many folks would simply see/read “Worf killed Quark” and go to town on it.

Nobody would have been fooled. “That’s Quark using a false name!’

Yes, I caught that he was joking.

I love Dorn as Worf and he’s one of the few old characters I want to see more of, but what a lousy idea! There would have to be a LOT of backstory to explain to us why Worf would ever kill some guy he knew back in the day on Deep Space Nine and never seem to have issues with. For a Ferengi, Quark was a pretty okay guy. What could he possibly do to make Worf so angry at him?

Totally rewatching that ep now!

It’s interesting to see other sites blowing this up as if Armin formally “turned down” an offer from Picard’s casting director to play Sneed. From what I’m reading here, it was just a side conversation between two friends – and that was as far as it went.

If you listen to the podcast, you can hear them all laughing as Armin tells the story. That’s exactly what it was!

Off topic, but the make-up for Worf and Sneed look so good, maybe the best Klingon and Ferengi make-up from the entire franchise.

Worf alone is the most perfect Klingon in these shots. I hope that if we see Klingons again (very likely) they take inspiration from the Picard Season 3 Worf designs.
