Taylor-made: A Swiftie’s guide to the best ‘Eras’ movie experience

Are you a swiftie in search of the right theater vibes here’s where to get the best ‘eras’ screening experience for you..

Deciding which movie theater to watch the upcoming “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” in might be as difficult as choosing which Swift era you want to represent.

The concert film, which will start showing Thursday night , will bring Swifties, concert fans and the general public right into the middle of a Swift concert. And 3,850 theaters across North America are planning to show the film in myriad formats, giving Swifties an array of choices for how they want to experience the concert film.

The production is a recorded version of her concerts culled from three of her performances at SoFi Stadium, where concertgoers originally spotted cameras at her six-night stand. The film will even give some fans who attended her other shows a chance to hear songs she didn’t perform elsewhere , such as “You’re on Your Own, Kid” and “Maroon.”

Tickets for the “Eras Tour” film cost $19.89 for adults (a reference to Swift’s “1989” album, which she is set to release a new recording of in October ) and $13.13 for children and seniors (13 is Swift’s lucky number).

Sharp. Witty. Thoughtful. Sign up for the Style Memo newsletter.

And of course, as Swift herself said, “Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged.”

Here’s a breakdown of the best way to see it — whether you want to feel like you have a floor seat at a concert, vibe out with your friends or grab some shiny Swift swag for your kids.

For the best sound

Look for: Dolby Atmos

For the crispiest sound, American composer Michael Giacchino recommends seeking out theaters with Dolby Atmos surround sound — often considered the best for a movie theater audio experience.

Still, Giacchino, whose music has been seen across television and movies, said he’s unsure how the audio might turn out for Swift’s movie. The film’s mixing will combine elements from Swift’s performance and concertgoers from the show, which will make the experience much different than just listening to Swift’s recorded albums.

“I’m excited to see it,” he said.

Expect the live experience to be amplified, Giacchino said. People will be dancing and singing to other people singing and dancing on screen, which isn’t very common in movie theaters.

For the most immersive experience

Look for: Imax, ScreenX, big screens and surround sound

People who want to feel as if they’re actually at the concert should seek out Imax screens, said Andrew Mall, an associate professor of music at Northeastern University who has researched Swift’s box office impact and music festivals in general.

ScreenX theaters, which offer 270-degree displays, can also mimic the experience of having a floor seat at the Eras tour. When BTS released its live concert in theaters this year, many of their army sought out these special screens.

“ScreenX, Imax, under-seat subwoofers, dozens of speakers: All of these features will add to a technologically immersive theatrical experience,” Mall said. “But none of these will guarantee that the social experience will also be immersive.”

For the best Swiftie parties

Look for: Major movie theater chains, special events

Die-hard Swifties are in luck: Major theater chains such as AMC and Alamo Drafthouse have relaxed their typical theater rules to accommodate a more concert-like atmosphere for the “Eras” film: Singing, dancing and swapping friendship bracelets are encouraged.

Introducing those elements is a “no brainer,” said Chaya Rosenthal, Alamo Drafthouse’s VP of marketing. Just as the theater chain leaned into special “Barbie” experiences — slumber party shows and dress-up screenings, for example — Alamo is actively encouraging audiences to revive the spirit of the Eras concerts.

That means you’re free to bring your light-up tour bracelets, wear your favorite Eras costume and shake it off with your friends — but remember to keep it within reason. AMC, for example, advises you to not dance on top of your seat or block the aisles.

The Style section

Meanwhile, for around $800 you can book a private screening at AMC and Cinemark theaters for up to 40 of your besties.

For the best family experience

Look for: Lounge theaters or wait a few weeks

Mall, the Northeastern professor, said the concert film will be an enjoyable experience for all generations because it gives everyone something to look forward to — whether you’re a Swift fan, someone who wants to see a concert for a cheap price or you just want to spend time with family and friends.

“That’s one of the beautiful things about music, right?” he said.

Still, some of your family might not want to get up and dance to the Swift tracks. Maybe you have a child with you or an older parent who could do without a theater full of Swifties scream-singing “Anti-Hero.” A theater with a relaxing setup might be the right move.

The iPic Theater chain, which urges people to bring pillows and blankets to showings, is about as comfy as it gets. They offer dine-in options for guests and seats that are 32 inches wide and created with relaxing and accessibility in mind.

(The theater chain is, however, offering immersive displays for photos before and after the show, so expect there to be some Swifties roaming about. But just think about the possibilities for your family photo album!)

Rosenthal has one more bit of advice: Opening weekend (if you can still get tickets) will attract the most die-hard fans, so if you want a calmer atmosphere, you may also want to sit out the first couple weeks. Don’t worry — given early revenue estimates, this film will be in theaters for a while.

For the best Swift merch

Look for: Basically everywhere

Theaters are making big pushes to bring Swifties into their theaters, and many are doing so by offering special merchandise. (But be warned: Some of these items may sell out.) AMC Theaters is selling collectible cups ($10 for a small; $12 for a large) covered in multicolored promotional photos of Swift from the different “eras” of her career. There’s also a popcorn tin (likewise plastered in green, pink, blue and yellow Swift promotional photos) and a mini-poster for your office cubicle.

Landmark Theaters are offering collectible cups and popcorn buckets for the movie, too. The bucket, which includes bottomless popcorn, will cost about $14, according to the theater. The refillable collectible cup will run $11. Regal Movies are selling the same collectible items but with a combo price of $19.89 (yet another reference to Swift’s album).

Over at Alamo Drafthouse, audiences can grab a limited-edition shirt, heart-shaped sunglasses, a disco ball cup (“Alamo’s version”) and friendship bracelets. The dine-in theater is also offering special Taylor Swift-themed drinks to fill your cup, including a “Bad Blood-arita,” “Ranch Water on My Guitar” and “Prosecco Problems.”

Taylor Swift Eras Tour Concert Film Coming to Movie Theaters

A theatrical version of the billion-dollar tour — a cultural juggernaut that just ended its North American leg — opens Oct. 13.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, the billion-dollar juggernaut that has dominated the cultural calendar this year, may be on a break before picking up internationally, but its momentum will only rest so long: The show is coming to movie theaters this fall.

“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” concert film will be released in the United States, Canada and Mexico on Oct. 13, Swift announced on social media Thursday, with U.S. AMC Theaters promising at least four showtimes per day from Thursday to Sunday upon opening.

“The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon,” Swift said. “Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged.”

Anticipating the white-hot demand that has followed the tour since its announcement, crashing ticketing systems around the world , AMC promised in a news release that it had “bolstered its ticket server capacity to handle traffic at more than 5 times the current record for the most ever tickets sold in an hour.” (The company added, however, that it was “also aware that no ticketing system in history seems to have been able to accommodate the soaring demand from Taylor Swift fans when tickets are first placed on sale.”)

Tickets are on sale now. Prices start at $19.89 for adults and $13.13 for children, substantially less than what fans paid for the tour itself — especially on the robust secondary market — as the concert industry adjusts to sometimes prohibitively high costs for its biggest events .

Swift, 33, wrapped this year’s North American dates with four shows in Mexico last week. Her downtime, though, will be brief. In addition to the movie version of the concert, the singer will release “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” the fourth of rerecorded original albums, two weeks later, on Oct. 27. By November, the Eras Tour will pick up in Argentina before traveling around the world in 2024, with dates — including nine additional U.S. shows — continuing into November 2024.

“1989 (Taylor’s Version),” the new edition of her 2014 pop blockbuster, marks Swift’s seventh release in barely three years, a period of artistic productivity that has fueled pent-up, post-pandemic demand for the singer’s live show. Jon Caramanica, a critic for The New York Times, said in a review of the first concert in March that the Eras Tour put on display “how many pivots Swift has undertaken in her career, and how the accompanying risks can have wildly different consequences.”

The trade publication Pollstar has estimated that the singer sold about $14 million in tickets for each show so far. By the end of next year, the 146 stadium dates could reach $1.4 billion or more in sales.

A Swiftie’s Guide to Seeing the Eras Tour Movie

Portrait of Alejandra Gularte

“One, two, three, let’s go bitch!” Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is coming to theaters for a limited run on Friday, October 13, and there’s a lot to catch up on — Travis Kelce rumors not included . This is Taylor Swift’s first worldwide theatrical release — Miss Americana was only shown in select theaters for a limited time before hitting Netflix — and fans have already embraced the concert film almost as much as the sold-out tour itself. It broke presale records held by Star Wars and Spider-Man, and movie theaters are anticipating a level of excitement similar to a Marvel movie. But Swifties are stuck in a lavender haze of questions, trying to figure out if they can take the souvenir cups home or sing at the top of their lungs in a packed theater. Put on your sparkly boots and remember heartbreak is supposed to feel good in a place like this, as we break down everything you need to know about seeing the Eras Tour movie.

How do I get a ticket if I haven’t already?

While most opening night screenings are probably sold out, there are a few screenings with available tickets if you don’t mind sitting in the front row. Every AMC theater has at least four screenings per day during opening weekend, and most other theater chains are following suit.

If you can’t make it opening weekend, AMC, Alamo Drafthouse, and Cinemark have tickets on sale through November 5 — Regal has showings until November 9 in some areas. This gives you a chance to rewatch the concert over and over again. However, screenings are only shown Thursday to Sunday to mimic the feeling of the in-person concert.

Okay, I have my tickets. Can I dance and sing?

Yes! As long as it is not disrupting other Swifties’ enjoyment of the show. Alamo Drafthouse is encouraging fans to have fun while watching the movie. We’d recommend some arm dancing whilst sitting comfortably in your seat, as most theaters have rules about blocking emergency walkways or the view from other patrons. AMC specifically states , “We encourage dancing and singing throughout this concert film event, but please do not dance on our seats or block other guests from viewing, safely walking or exiting the auditorium.” And while some metalheads might disagree, singing does not equal screaming. The show is two hours and 45 minutes, not including trailers, and you’ll need to preserve it for the full 10 minutes of “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version).”

What about taking photos?

You can take photos with your friends and their friendship bracelets before the show starts, but once Tay is on the screen, the phone goes away. The same rules apply during regular theater screenings. You wouldn’t steal a getaway car , would you?

What’s the deal with merch?

Most theater chains all have some sort of Eras -themed soda cup and popcorn bucket. The material and/or color of the items may change depending on the theater, but the design is essentially the same. Regal has a pretty good deal for $19.89 (cute!). Fans who were scarred by the blue-crewneck saga and the hours-long merch queue at concerts may try to line up early to make sure they get their items, which isn’t a bad idea. There are free mini movie posters at select theaters like AMC , Regal, and Cinemark for ticket holders, a.k.a. another reason to get there early.

There is one theater that seems to have pulled out all the stops for merch, and it’s surprisingly not AMC, especially since it’s the one directly partnering with Swift for the movie. Alamo Drafthouse reportedly has Eras-inspired T-shirts, bracelets, sunglasses, and mirrorball cups for sale at every theater showing while supplies last.

How early should I get there?

Most theaters have you book a seat ahead of time, so there isn’t any need to camp out — an hour feels sufficient enough. There might be a line to get your free mini poster and buy collectible cups and popcorn buckets, so it’d be a good idea to arrive in advance. After you’ve gathered everything you need for the show, you can make new friends — you’ll need as many as possible to try to decipher whatever Easter egg Swift will probably sneak into the movie.

It’s nearly three hours long — when can I safely go to the bathroom?

It depends on what your favorite era is, but a good halfway mark is sometime during the Red era. The beginning of the era (right after “Enchanted”) includes a small dance number that’s a few minutes long, and if you time it right after Swift ends the Speak Now portion, you should make it back during the middle of “22.” You could also leave during “All Too Well (Ten Minute Version),” technically only missing one song.

If you need a break earlier (or just want to avoid crying in front of people), step out during “marjorie” or “champagne problems.”

Were songs cut from the film?

Sorry, we’re about to break a perfectly good heart. While it was previously confirmed that no songs would be cut from the Eras Tour film, a few ended up on the chopping block. Lover ’s “The Archer,” folklore ’s “cardigan,” 1989 ’s “Wildest Dreams,” evermore ’s “no body no crime” featuring HAIM, and Speak Now ’s “Long Live” (though the latter’s studio version was included in the end credits). The “seven” interlude in the folklore section was also removed from the theatrical version. But who’s to say Miss Swift won’t release an extended version on streaming in the future? Swifties know that “Maroon” was filmed and they want the high-definition version!

Will there be friendship bracelets?

Duh. You won’t be on your own kid. For almost a year, Swifties have been making frequent trips to the craft store; Michaels saw a 300 percent increase in sales from jewelry-making supplies in cities where the Eras Tour stops were held. There are a few easy ways to get your bracelets ready for trading. The first is to have one arm as your “trading” arm, filled with bracelets you’ve made to trade with others or ones you’re retrading, and have the other arm to display the ones you’re keeping. Makes it easy to separate your own collection from the ones you plan to switch out. The second is to hold your trading bracelets on an old shower or carabiner ring, separating them by theme or album.

If you’re stuck trying to figure out movie-related phrases for your bracelets, here are a few to get you started: “ If This Was a Movie ,” “ I can AMC you ,” “ flashback in a film reel, ” “ I Alamo-st Do ,” or — if you’re feeling a little unhinged — “ The Lorax .” Simpler ones like “In my movies era,” or “Eras Tour,” or your favorite Swift songs would totally work too. However, if you don’t want to risk burning yourself with a hot-glue gun , AMC and Alamo Drafthouse have both been rumored to have some bracelets of their own.

Anything else I should expect?

A lot of singing, some crying, and definitely some hand hearts.

Fans who weren’t lucky enough to score tickets to Taylor Swift ‘s Eras Tour in person — and those who are dying to relive their original experience — are in for a treat as the singer just announced that the record-breaking concert will be coming to theaters near you. Dare we suggest that Swift is saving cinema amid the dual Hollywood Strikes? It’s certainly possible!

The star recently wrapped up the United States leg of her tour — in which she sang 44 songs during each show’s three hours and 15 minutes. Now, she’s gearing up for the release of “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” as well as the Latin America part of her tour. But first, she took to Instagram earlier this morning to reveal the big news.

“The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon 😆 ,” she captioned a post of the trailer. “Starting Oct 13th you’ll be able to experience the concert film in theaters in North America! With a premiere date of Oct. 13, the Eras Tour movie — which is directed by Sam Wrench — will be releasing on the same day as The Exorcist: Believer . Therefore, this summer’s Barbenheimer will soon be swapped out for the fall’s Exorswift — and we couldn’t be more excited.

So where can you watch Swift’s Eras Tour concert film? Will it be available on streaming? Here’s everything we know about the highly-anticipated event:

WHERE TO WATCH TAYLOR SWIFT’S ERAS TOUR MOVIE:

As of now, the only way to watch the Eras Tour movie is to head out to a movie theater when it releases on Friday, Oct. 13. Tickets for local showings are currently available to purchase on Fandango . According to Deadline , the film will show in AMC, Regal and Cinemark theaters from Oct. 13-15, Oct. 19-22, Oct. 26-29, Oct. 31 and Nov. 2-5.

In light of the announcement — and last year’s presale catastrophe on Ticketmaster — AMC has also updated its website to handle the extremely high demand. In a statement released to Deadline, the company said, “AMC is also aware that no ticketing system in history seems to have been able to accommodate the soaring demand of Taylor Swift fans when tickets are first placed on sale.”

Because of this, you may want to get your tickets ASAP before they sell out!

WILL TAYLOR SWIFT’S ERAS TOUR MOVIE BE ON STREAMING?

While no streaming plans have been announced, it’s possible the Eras Tour movie will come to one of the platforms at some point in the future. But which one? Swift previously released Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions on Disney+ , while both her Miss Americana documentary and the Reputation Stadium Tour concert film were released on Netflix . So for now, it looks like only time will tell.

In the meantime, start making your friendship bracelets and bedazzling your wardrobe because we’re less than two short months away from the Eras Tour movie hitting theaters.

Taylor Swift ’s Eras Tour is set to appear in thousands of movie theaters.

The “Love Story” singer, 33, has been on the road since March 13 and will continue to tour until Nov. 23, 2024.

As some fans have been unable to see her live shows , Swift has now enabled her show to come to fans by releasing an Eras Tour concert film at every AMC Theatre in the U.S.

"The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon 😆," Swift posted on Instagram Thursday.

"Starting Oct 13th you’ll be able to experience the concert film in theaters in North America! Tickets are on sale now at amctheatres.com. Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged 🫶 1, 2, 3 LGB!!!! (iykyk)"

From Oct. 13, fans will be able to watch footage of Swift's tour for an adult ticket price of $19.89 (plus tax), while kids and senior tickets are priced at $13.13 (plus tax). This, however, doesn’t include AMC’s branded premium large-format screens.

Fans also have plenty of showtimes to choose from as the “theatrical concert experience” will be shown four times a day at every AMC theater on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

“TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR concert film will be available in IMAX at AMC and Dolby Cinema at AMC and at AMC’s other branded premium large format screens for their standard upcharges,” reads a release from AMC Theaters.

The entertainment company also revealed they had increased their ticket server capacity to handle over five times more traffic than “the current record for the most ever tickets sold in an hour.”

"After years of wanting to play in Mexico City, just got to play 4 of the most unforgettable shows for the most beautiful and generous fans," Swift wrote on Instagram alongside pictures from her shows. “Feeling so grateful for the memories we’re making together on this tour 🥹 TE AMO. 🇲🇽.”

Earlier this month, sources confirmed to PEOPLE that Swift gave bonuses to each member of her Eras Tour, reaching a total of $55 million .

CNN also revealed that Swift gave Eras Tour truck drivers $100,000 bonuses and handwritten letters for their efforts on the tour.

“The typical amount is $5,000 to $10,000 each. So this large amount is unbelievable," Michael Scherkenbach, founder and CEO of Shomotion trucking company, told the outlet.

“These men and women, they live on the road. They sleep during the day and work all night,” he added. “It’s a grueling task. They leave their families, young children for weeks. For Taylor’s tour, they’ve been away from home for 24 weeks.”

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Is Heading To Movie Theaters With An Official Concert Film

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour

Taylor Swift has already swept the United States off their feet with the Eras Tour, a massive concert that has broken plenty of concert sale records , as well as Ticketmaster's ticketing systems. That means there are millions of people out there who haven't been able to experience the magic of Taylor Swift's concert tour, which has now embarked on its international leg. But as Taylor Swift is globetrotting with her sold-out tour, she'll soon be trying to sell out movie theaters with an official Eras Tour concert movie on the big screen.

AMC Theatres, Cinemark, Regal Cinemas, and other theater chains will be releasing "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour" into theaters starting on October 13 and running through at least October 16. AMC is first out of the gate to sell tickets, because they're also acting as the concert film's official distributor. The theater chain is securing locations and screens with numerous other movie theater operators throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, so there will likely be even more movie theater chains securing the ability to play this concert film on their screens as well.

For AMC's part, the press release promises that the concert film will play "at least four showtimes per day on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at every AMC theatre location in the United States," and you can bet that other theater chains will follow suit. So this is certainly getting a massive wide release for the limited time that it will be in theaters. Can Taylor Swift smash records for concert films at the box office the same way she broke ticket sales records earlier this year? Only time will tell, but in the meantime, you can get a look at the Eras Tour concert movie with the official teaser trailer below.

Watch the Taylor Swift Eras Tour concert movie trailer

If you want to get tickets for "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour," the AMC website has already been equipped to handle the massive traffic from fans trying to secure a spot. At the time of this writing, there's currently a virtual line to access AMC's website in order to handle the demand. Tickets for other theaters will likely go on sale in the near future, so just stay tuned to your nearest chain and be patient.

As someone who was lucky enough to attend one of the Chicago dates for Taylor Swift's, I can tell you that this will be one hell of a show to watch on the big screen. Even from nosebleed seats in a stadium, Taylor Swift knows how to make the expensive concert experience worth the money. She performs for almost a full three hours, and the concert film will deliver 2 hours and 45 minutes of Swift giving it her all.

On social media, Taylor Swift had this to say when announcing the concert film in theaters:

"The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I'm overjoyed to tell you that it'll be coming to the big screen soon. Starting Oct 13th you'll be able to experience the concert film in theaters in North America! Tickets are on sale now at amctheatres.com. Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged... 1, 2, 3 LGB!!!! (iykyk)."

If you're a true Swiftie, and you've been to her concerts before the Eras Tour was even a thing, then you know exactly what that last bit is about. If not, then you just might find out when "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour" hits theaters in October. This will certainly hold us over until she gets the chance to direct her first feature film .

Taylor Swift Eras Tour concert movie

UPDATE, AFTER EXCLUSIVE: AMC is reporting that the Taylor Swift : The Eras Tour concert film has clocked a mindblowing $26M for the circuit in presales in its first 24 hours, beating their previous first day presales record for Spider-Man: No Way Home which did $16.9M. Let’s write that again — this massive presales figure is only for AMC . It’s not for the entire industry and other circuits like Regal, Cinemark and Harkins — which means the figure is significantly bigger. Realize, though, AMC reps the largest footprint for movie theaters at the domestic B.O. with 568 locations.

Triple note here with AMC’s maneuvers with the Taylor Swift: Eras Tour concert pic: It’s the exhibitors who are winning 100% this time; not the studios who do not have a stake in this pic.

Separately, Fandango reports that Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour broke the ticket seller’s first day sales for 2023 and ranks among their first-day presellers which include Avengers: Endgame, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Spider-Man: No Way Home and others.

“Taylor Swift is giving moviegoing fans and the entire industry the ultimate gift by bringing Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film to the big screen,” said Jerramy Hainline, SVP, Fandango Ticketing. “Not only is Taylor Swift’s concert film the best first-day ticket seller of the year on Fandango, but the concert film is performing like the superhero she is and ranking among the best first-day ticket sellers of all time from franchises like Marvel, Star Wars, DC Comics and more.”

PREVIOUS EXCLUSIVE, Aug. 31: Since going on sale at 7:15 a.m. CT this morning, ticket presales for AMC’s concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour are well past $10M and counting, we hear from sources. By the end of the day, this presales figure will be tremendously north of what we’re seeing. Swift’s presales here bury the one-weekend-play gross of Trafalgar’s BST: Yet to Come, which did $8M earlier this year.

This enormous presales figure for the pic’s four-weekend play is making distribution executives fall out of their chairs — and reach for their Just calculators. They’re trying to figure out how this concert film distributed to the top three circuits, and possibly more theaters, will do in its opening weekend, off what largely will be a marketing campaign fueled by circuits’ social media, email blasts to loyalty clubs and Swift herself.

What does The Eras Tour even comp to in regards to presales?

“Some Marvel movie,” adds a distribution guru.

They’re right: Days before Eternals opened, presales were at $13M. But The Eras Tour is poised to be crazy higher. Keep in mind that Star Wars: The Force Awakens did $20M on its first day of presales — nine weeks out from its release date back in 2015!

Certainly, AMC doesn’t have the marketing spend of a major studio a la Disney, Sony and Paramount, which opened their respective docu-concert movies to big numbers, i.e. Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert ($31M opening, $65.2M final in 2008), Michael Jackson’s This Is It ($23.2M, $72M in 2009) and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never ($29.5M opening, $73M domestic in 2011).

“They don’t need that,” cried one distribution boss today about the pic’s P&A spend. “All AMC needs is Taylor Swift posting about the movie on social media to her fans.”

AMC said in pre-release that it will limit the showtimes of other Hollywood pics due to the presence of the Swift movie, for which a separate movie ticket sales portal has been created to accommodate huge demand. Also, AMC Stubs members aren’t getting priority treatment when it comes to passes on the film or immediate queue access.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert film will not compete with Universal/Blumhouse/Morgan Creek’s The Exorcist: Believer on its opening weekend, that female-skewing horror movie having just moved to October 6 within minutes after Deadline’s story posted. However, Swift will go up against Lionsgate’s Ordinary Angels on October 13, then versus Apple/Paramount’s Killers of the Flower Moon on October 20, and Uni/Blumhouse’s theatrical day-and-date of Five Nights at Freddy’s on October 27. The Eras Tour is really the only wide release during the first weekend of November, with Dune: Part Two now in March 2024 .

AMC, has tapped Variance Films to book the movie, did not return Deadline’s request for comment about Swift presales.

Discounts apply for child and senior tickets.

Are there any special screenings or offerings for Taylor Swift's Eras movie?

How Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Concert Film Scrambled (and Saved) the Fall Movie Season

INGLEWOOD, CALIFORNIA - AUGUST 03: EDITORIAL USE ONLY. Taylor Swift performs onstage during "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour" at SoFi Stadium on August 03, 2023 in Inglewood, California. (Photo by Emma McIntyre/TAS23/Getty Images for TAS Rights Management)

Taylor Swift always knew her record-breaking Eras Tour wouldn’t be confined to the mega-sized stadiums she was selling out. And she was right: Her accompanying concert film — which brings the epic, three-hour show to its widest audience yet — enters theaters on Oct. 13 as one of the highest-grossing in history with $100 million in advance global ticket sales.

Before the tour of the summer made its way to the big screen in the fall, representatives from the pop star’s camp began holding meetings with major studios. They were hoping to find a distribution partner for an Eras Tour concert film, a cinematic rendering of her SoFi Stadium show in Los Angeles. Swift, who had previously met with studios in 2021 about a theatrical run for her short film “All Too Well,” was presented with full-blown plans that included marketing ideas and a strategy for later rolling out the film on streaming and home entertainment platforms.

But sources say Swift’s camp seemed less interested in where the film would ultimately play after moviegoers had a chance to see it in cinemas. They primarily cared about giving fans who hadn’t been able to spring for concert tickets (or were foiled by the TicketMaster meltdown) the opportunity to experience Eras in all its glory — friendship bracelets and glittery outfits encouraged. To that end, some of the major streamers didn’t engage much with the star, believing she wouldn’t be interested in what they had to offer.

Executives who tried to land a distribution deal felt burned by her unconventional route. And some studios are annoyed with AMC Theatres, believing the exhibitor has encroached on their territory. “All I know is she got a lot of free advice,” says one executive, who believes Swift was never really interested in finding a studio to distribute the picture.

A source close to the negotiations pushed back on the characterization. “This sounds like sour grapes,” the source said. “Everyone had the opportunity to bid on this, but ultimately Taylor decided to bet on herself.”

Others believe her approach has the potential to be game-changing for film distribution. Already, Beyoncé has announced that a concert film of her Renaissance World Tour is headed to cinemas in December, using a similar deal to the one forged by AMC and Swift. However, insiders point out that few other artists command that kind of zeitgeist-setting power.

Cutting out the middleman could be lucrative for the musician. Swift’s camp will receive roughly 57% of ticket sales, with theaters keeping the remaining revenues and AMC taking a small distribution fee (much less than what studios would have charged). As for exhibitors, many feel it’s a generous deal, noting that Marvel movies receive roughly 65% of box office profits.

Based on the “Eras Tour” movie’s massive pre-sales, Swift’s camp will receive at least $60 million, a sum that should climb even higher beyond opening weekend. That’s to say nothing of home entertainment. After its theatrical run, Swift can carve out a separate deal there — and may even choose to self-distribute again, where she could partner with a company like Apple to release the movie on iTunes.

Bypassing studios also allowed Swift to release the film in a timelier fashion, without needing to wait for distributors to find a convenient spot for her on the release calendar. Instead, it’s Swift setting the schedule for not just her film, but those around it. Four movies — “The Exorcist: Believer,” “Dumb Money,” Hilary Swank’s “Ordinary Angels” and Meg Ryan’s rom-com “What Happens Later” — have moved their debuts to avoid “Eras Tour,” which premieres on Oct. 13, Swift’s lucky number.

For movie theaters, however, it’s an unexpected boon in what would have been an otherwise desolate fall — especially after the vacancy left by “Dune: Part Two,” which moved from November to March 2024. Swift’s film is projected to open to at least $100 million (with estimates as high as $125 million or more) in North America alone. It would be the only film in October, the first since July, and the sixth of the year, to hit triple digits in its debut. Box office experts believe ticket sales may not hold as steady in the subsequent weekends and expect overall revenues to top out between $200 million and $250 million.

Swift’s film will achieve similar box office heights with far fewer showtimes. Another rarity: “Eras Tour” is only screening on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to make it feel less like a movie and more like an event. This way, the team behind the film hopes, there’s a better chance that audiences will be able to watch the concert extravaganza with a packed crowd and not in half-empty theaters during a Monday matinee.

And, of course, Swift is a global draw. Initially “Eras Tour” was only going to play on the big screen in North America, where the pop star has already wrapped up the first leg of her domestic tour. (She’s returning to the U.S. and Canada next October.) Then tickets started selling less like a concert film and more like an all-audience tentpole. It set a single-day domestic record for AMC after selling $26 million in less than 24 hours, besting the all-time benchmark previously held by “Spider-Man: No Way Home” ($16.9 million). With such strong momentum, Swift and AMC decided to release the film simultaneously in 100 countries around the world.

They’ve been able to amend plans so quickly because anything pertaining to Swift requires much fewer marketing dollars, at least compared to other films of this scale. Most of the promotion for “Eras Tour” has been limited to only a handful of social media posts by Swift, who has more than 350 million Instagram and Twitter followers. As they say, one post in the hands of the biggest pop star in the world is worth a million TV spots and billboards.

Everything you need to know about Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour movie set to open Oct. 13

taylor swift eras tour movie regal cinemas

It seems like Taylor Swift is just about everywhere.

Daily paparazzi photos of the pop star are all over the Internet.

Images of her during NFL games watching supposed boyfriend and Ohio native Travis Kelce play for the Kansas City Chiefs are now as ubiquitous as a shot of the Goodyear blimp flying overhead during a football game.

And soon Swift will be appearing on just about every screen in a multiplex near you.

After shattering records with her The Eras Tour in stadiums across the country this past summer, Swift is looking to conquer the box office too.

It appears she is already well on her way.

A check of movie theaters from Akron to Columbus to Cincinnati already shows limited seats − if not sold out − for the first showings of Taylor Swift The Eras Tour concert movie when it is released on Friday, Oct. 13.

After the concert film was announced on Aug. 31, AMC theaters set a single day record for the highest ticket sales revenues in the theater chain's 103-year history.

And this might just be start of going to the theater to experience pop stars.

Beyoncé is bringing her own concert film of her Renaissance World Tour to theaters on Dec. 1.

How can I get tickets for the Taylor Swift The Eras Tour Movie?

The movie is being shown in scores of theaters on multiple screens throughout the state with screenings every 20 minutes in some larger theaters.

Among the theater chains showing the film are Regal , Cinemark , AMC along with smaller regional chains and even some drive-ins in Ohio.

The concert film is expected to have a four-week run in theaters typically on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

How much are tickets to see Taylor Swift The Eras Tour Movie?

Tickets for digital showings of the Taylor Swift concert film are $19.89 − mirroring the name of her new album "1989 Taylor's Version" set to be released on Oct. 27. There are no passes or discounts accepted for the movie.

Tickets to see the film in Imax or in other enhanced theater experiences are more expensive.

What to expect at the Taylor Swift concert movie

This will not be your typical movie theater experience.

For one, the theaters will be packed and seats are reserved in most instances so don't expect to sneak in and find an empty seat.

Theater chains also recommend that you purchase your tickets ahead of time as they expect many showings to be completely sold out.

And theater operators are warning moviegoers to not expect your typical quiet movie experience during the Taylor Swift film.

This is a concert flick − it was filmed over six nights during her Eras Tour stop at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles − so expect fellow Swiftees to be singing along, standing and even dancing throughout the 165-minute movie.

You will not get every single moment of the concert as it ran about three hours long.

Most theaters will give away souvenir mini movie posters while supplies last and sell popcorn and drinks in special Taylor Swift cups and containers.

Some theaters are also encouraging − like at the concerts − for fans to exchange Taylor Swift-inspired bracelets in the lobby.

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” has, unsurprisingly, been one of the biggest, most-written, most-talked-about concert extravaganzas ever take over global popular culture. The tour has already grossed more than $1 billion in the U.S. and Mexico, a number that will surely climb to well north of $2 billion once Swift quits going to NFL games to see Travis Kelce play football and goes back on the road to play the rest of the world in late 2023 and 2024.

That will make “Eras” the highest-grossing tour in the history of tours, earning Swift truckloads of money and further burnishing her reputation as the most powerful star in music.

All of that is an immaterial sideshow for fans who weren’t able to acquire a ticket to their nearest “Eras” stadium show and are still desperate to be in the same room with some version of Swift. But fear not Swifties, your heroine has made a movie just for you. It’s got a very understandable and unfancy title, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” and it opens Friday at AMC, Cinemark, Regal and a few other theaters near you.

Related: Taylor Swift is a singular stadium sensation on her historic ‘Eras Tour’

If you’re a fan all you need to know is that the film’s 2 hour and 45 minute run time is a bit shorter than the actual concert run time. So that likely means there will be lots of music and very little backstage footage or distractions.

The film was recorded Aug. 3-5 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., at the first three of six Los Angeles-area shows Swift played there this summer. It is directed by Sam Wrench who also made the successful concert films “ Billie Eilish: Live at the O2″ (2023) and “ Lizzo: Live in Concert ” (2022).

Even at 2 hours 45 minutes, the film is a hell of a lot shorter than the full Swift concert experience, which, of course, also includes fun stuff like finding and paying (too much) for parking, walking and/or shuttling to the stadium, standing in line with your fellow Swifties excitedly waiting for the doors to open (actually, that part is a pretty good time), then queuing up some more as you wait to pay umpteen dollars for overpriced booze, water and food.

Also, if you’re a guy there will be likely plenty of men’s rooms available at your local theater, unlike the actual concerts.

Your “Eras” theater experience won’t cost as much as seeing the show live, of course. But it won’t be cheap either, at least by movie theater standards.

Swift is a powerful smartie who bypassed the traditional Hollywood studios and signed a direct distribution deal with AMC Theatres, the world’s biggest cinema chain. The film isn’t exclusive to AMC. It will also play in the U.S. at Cinemark, Regal and many other theaters, including independent houses like the Cedar-Lee. Altogether, it will be shown in approximately 8,500 cinemas across 100 countries.

That deal gives Swift leverage to set ticket unique ticket prices. An adult ticket for the “Eras Tour” movie starts at $19.89 -- a reference to the next album release in her “Taylor’s Version” re-record/reclamation project, due out October 27. Tickets for kids and seniors start at $13.13 because 13, as all Swifties know, is Swift’s lucky number. There is a small upcharge to see the film in IMAX or other enhanced formats.

Unsurprisingly, ticket sales for the film have been brisk with more than $37 million in presales on the first day of availability. By October 5, more than $100 million tickets had been sold globally.

One aspect of the in-theater “Eras” experience that simply won’t match seeing the show live is the crowd. Swift has suggested that fans treat the movie theater like a stadium, “Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged,” she wrote in the film trailer’s Instagram post.

While many Swifties will surely ecstatically “screamsing-shoutcry” along with the filmed version of their heroine, chances are pretty good there will be a contingent of movie-going fans that just want to see AND hear Swift sing the 40-plus songs that populate the “Eras” setlist and will not be happy with their fellow Swifties.

Likewise, theater workers are expecting some loud, popcorn-flinging, bathroom-wrecking rowdiness from over-excited Swifties, so maybe cut them some slack during your trip to the theater.

Here are some other things you can expect to see -- and some things you’ll have missed if you did not go to the live show.

Multimedia Feast: You’ll surely get all the best angles for all the multimedia wizardry involved in the show. “Eras” is a true stadium spectacle, designed and planned to fill the huge spaces it visited. There are several cool moments in the show when the video and the live humans on stage interact such as the dancers jumping into and “swimming” in a huge digital LED “pool” projected on the stage. You couldn’t see all of those cool visual bits as clearly from the floor of the stadium but they will surely be highlighted in the film.

Those LED bracelets: Handed out as you entered the stadium, the LED bracelets became an interesting and integral part of the show as another way to connect the fans with Swift, each other and the show. You won’t get those at a screening, but you will get to see how cool it looks when 70,000 people’s wrists all light up and slowly change colors to match whatever era is currently happening on stage.

The pre-show cameradie You may get a taste of it while standing in line for entry and popcorn or in your seats as you wait for the film to start. But being in the BIG room with all those like-minded Swifties of all ages as they casually or often emphatically bond over their love of all things Swift, repeatedly declare their disbelief (”Ohmigod! I can’t believe I’m here!”) and tell the personal Swift show stories to each other is a good communal time.

The Fashion Show: Per T. Sizzle’s request many folks are going to get dressed up at least for the opening night of “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” so you can get a solid taste if your fellow moviegoers are in the spirit of the experience. But the array of themed costumes, both solo and group, shiny, sparkly outfits, crews of little girls dressed in various Swift-inspired guises, alongside crews of soccer moms and grannies dolled up in their hippest gear, makes for very fun people-watching.

Commandeering the men’s rooms: This is unlikely to be necessary at your local theaters, but there were no men’s rooms at Ford Field for the first hour or so of the show. Brave/desperate dudes would go on in and use the urinals suffering disapproving looks from ladies in line and maybe a catcall or two, but there were also plenty of women too concerned with their own bladder needs to care.

Crying: There’s quite a bit of crying at a Taylor Swift show. Most of it seemed to be happy if ugly crying, but when folks hear “THAT” song and start singing along, the tears just seemed to get flowing. The happy songs made people cry, the breakup songs made people cry, and several of those folks couldn’t even explain why they were crying.

Singshoutscreamcry like no one’s listening - Look. Everybody sings, or at least vocalizes loudly at a Taylor Swift concert. I mean E-V-E-R-Y-B-O-D-Y. In the stadium context, it’s part of the communal experience and you can still hear the star, who frequently encourages it, singing through the massive, high-tech sound system. But in a movie theater, some fans may simply want to watch and listen and not sing along, especially since Swift isn’t actually there to bask in the sonic adulation. I doubt that trying to shush fellow moviegoers will work very well and nobody pays theater ushers enough to try and control a crowd of excited fans. So, it may be prudent to just give in, lean in and go with it and wait for the release on streaming services to sit, relax and hear everything clearly. You might enjoy it.

“1989 (Taylor’s Version)” is coming soon - Swift is still re-recording and re-releasing her first six albums and album number five, “1989,″ is next on the list. During the Detroit show, Swift mentioned the soon-to-be-rereleased “Speak Now’ several times while thanking folks for supporting her “passion project” of establishing her new masters of those early albums to replace the original tapes that she was unable to acquire. “1989″ is next and since the shows in the film were recorded near the end of the American leg of the tour, you can bet your bottom dollar that somehow moviegoers will be reminded that the release of “1989: Taylor’s Version” is just around the corner.

Indie Folk Goddess Suite: Fans of Swift’s pandemic-era albums “Folklore” and “Evermore” will be delighted by the amount of attention they receive in the show. About a dozen total songs from those two albums are performed though separated by older material. If you love comfy cardigan-wearing Swift, you’ll enjoy the concert versions of “Marjorie” and “The Last Great American Dynasty.”

Surprise Songs (spoilers): Throughout the Eras tour Swift performed a short two-song acoustic set to add a little dose of surprise and spontaneity during the otherwise choreographed-down-to-the-second performance. Assuming they stick with the shows that were filmed fans can expect some combination of “I Can See You” and “Maroon” performed on August 3, “Our Song” and “You Are in Love” performed on August 4, “Death by a Thousand Cuts” and “You’re on Your Own, Kid” performed on August 5.

Like the record-setting Eras tour, the Eras film ran up a record $26 million in presale tickets, setting a one-day sales high mark for AMC Theatres, the film’s official distributor and world’s biggest theater chain. CNBC reported that opening weekend projections for the nearly three-hour movie are running at around $100+ million, which could instantly give the Eras movie one of the year’s biggest opening weekends to date and instantly make it the top-grossing music concert film ever.

A year of the Eras Tour: A look back at Taylor Swift's record-breaking show

taylor swift eras tour movie regal cinemas

One year ago, the crowd in Glendale, Arizona, erupted into a massive cheer in State Farm Stadium when Lesley Gore's "You Don't Own Me" began playing and the backdrop screen transitioned to a countdown clock starting at 2:24.

None of the Swifties who traveled from all over the state of Arizona and the nation, dressed to the nines as one of her 10 eras, knew the tour would be three-plus hours. The fan screaming next to me from Pennsylvania who bought a ticket on StubHub.com for about $400 didn't know that we would go era-by-era through a 44-song track list. I don't think the singer, herself, knew when she hid inside a cleaning cart wheeled backstage, that her show would lead to a billion-dollar enterprise, Time magazine person of the year and an inundation of friendship bracelets. I didn't know the behemoth success following the Eras Tour star would send me packing from Phoenix to Nashville, Tennessee, to become the inaugural Taylor Swift reporter.

Swift's dancers flowed onto the stage through fog with pink, purple and orange parachute flaps. A compilation of songs from Swift's 10 albums — or eras — played as "it's been a long time coming" boomed into the stadium. Goosebumps covered the arms of thousands and tears cascaded down cheeks as the flaps revealed Miss Americana rising to begin her "Lover" set.

Eighty three shows later, here's a look back at the unprecedented tour that set a Guinness World Record . And fair warning, like her tour this article is an extensive rollercoaster.

Swept up in the hype, the world became Taylor Nation. Glendale, "Erazona ," was renamed "Swift City." Las Vegas lit up its arches in all 10 era colors. Arlington, Texas, dubbed one of its streets "Taylor Swift Way." Tampa, Florida, gave Swift a key to the city and invited her to be an honorary mayor. Houston renamed its venue "NRG Stadium (Taylor’s Version)."

Nashville, Tennessee, dedicated a bench in Centennial Park to the hometown singer. A Philadelphia radio station, 96.5 FM (WTDY), renamed itself Ninety-Swift-Five W-T-A-Y. Gov. Philip D. Murphy dubbed the "Taylor Swift ham, egg and cheese sandwich" the "state sandwich of New Jersey." Chicago lit up the top of Willis Tower in her album colors. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey renamed his city "Swiftie-apolis," and Santa Clara, California, Mayor Lisa Gillmor switched the city's name to "Swiftie Clara."

Internationally, fans in Brazil caught the attention of Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes and Father Omar, the rector of the Christ the Redeemer Sanctuary, who arranged to project a  "Junior Jewels" inspired T-shirt  onto the Christ the Redeemer statue. Flinders Station in Melbourne , Australia, flashed a wallpaper glaze of lights to welcome the Eras star. Singapore painted the Marina Bay Sands Resort all colors of vibrant lights.

It's a cruel summer with you

All four seasons met the fifteen dancers, four backup singers, six bandmates and hundreds of production and crew members, adding unpredictable weather to the mix. Mother Nature danced in a lightning storm to "Fearless" in Tampa and made the song "Midnight Rain" a reality in Nashville . Rain poured through the open-roofed stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, where Swift pushed puddles forming on her piano . The Swiftie fandom created its own natural phenomenon in Seattle after a seismologist registered a 2.3 magnitude earthquake on her Richter scale.

The intense heat in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, caused Swift to throw water bottles to fans and temporarily halt her show. Ana Clara Benevides Machado, 23, passed out and died of heat exhaustion. The heartbreaking news prompted changes at the Estádio Olímpico Nilton Santos to allow fans access to water. Swift invited Benevides' family to her concert in São Paulo.

I want you to think of the memories made

Swift incorporated custom messages into each tour stop. At her international destinations, she welcomed fans in their custom languages. "Bienvenidos al Eras Tour," she said in Mexico City before hoisting her hands in the air. While donning either her pink or blue guitar before the title track of "Lover," she commonly announced the stadium attendance often record-breaking.

Outside of stadiums, thousands "Taylorgated," or showed up without a ticket to hear Swift's beats and dance on the concrete. Tens of thousands more logged on to watch livestreams from fans with tickets who agreed to spend concert time holding up their mobile devices in a tricep-burning position.

The number of viewers would jump before the "Champagne Problems" speech and acoustic set. To keep things fun and interesting each night, fans filled out "Swiftball" ballots guessing the singer's outfits from four "Lover" bodysuits and accompanying "The Man" jackets, three "Fearless" dresses, two "Evermore" dresses, six "Speak Now" gowns, three bedazzled "22" shirts, five "Folkore" dresses, four "1989" crop top and skirt combos, six "Midnights" T-shirt dresses, three "Midnight Rain" body suits and four "Karma" faux fur jackets. To see how many times the Eras star wore each outfit, check out the "Data Swiftie."

For fans who wanted to get alerts to watch the shows without having to calculate time changes, Swift Alert became the app for that .

Double clap, audience chants

A secret language formed between fans and Swift as new traditions popped up along the tour. The four lines fans screamed at the top of their lungs, no matter the city or country, were "cause shade never made anybody less gay" in "You Need To Calm Down," "what a shame she's f----d in the head" in "Champagne Problems," "f--- the patriarchy" in "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)" and "don't call me kid, don't call me baby" in "Illicit Affairs."

Swift started every show strong with a very important question: Did her fans know the bridge to "Cruel Summer?" "Prove it!" she'd yell at some stops and the audience would, every single time, bellow, "I'm drunk in the back of the car." For "The Archer," fans printed and dispersed signs that read, "We will stay," to hold up when Swift asks, "Who would stay?"

In the "Fearless" era, fans double clapped with "13" drawn on the back of their hands in the middle of the bridge to "You Belong With Me." A trend of marriage proposals during "Love Story" picked up during the 2024 leg with partners popping the question as Swift sang, "He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring."

During "Marjorie," Swifties turned their phone flashlights on in tribute to Swift's grandma. Fans started timing the standing ovation and ear-shattering applause after "Champagne Problems." Livestreamers, like Tess Bohne , would display a clock and fans guessed if the cheers would surpass one, two or three minutes.

A snake shape slithered through the light-up braceklets handed out before the show at the start of the "Reputation" era. Fans yelled "1, 2, 3, let's go b----" before the first verse of "Delicate" as Swift counts on her fingers. Later in the song, Swift sings, "Do the girls back home touch you like I do?" and fans reply, "No, they don't." On rare occasion, Swift would let out a three-note riff during her "Don't Blame Me" belt.

After rereleasing her third album, the "Speak Now" singer added "Long Live" to the set list, bringing the total to 45 tracks. In the first verse when she croons "the crowds and stands went wild," the crowd indeed went wild.

In the "Red" era, Swift crowned a deserving fan with a black fedora during "22." They were typically children, but one adult Swiftie was crowned in Melbourne . Dancer Kameron Saunders had the only speaking line on the tour besides Swift during her song "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together." He said "like ever" at the American shows, but when the tour went international, he switched up the phrase each night. And yes, we track that. Swift knew all too well each crowd had "10 minutes to spare," and she played her longest song, in total, for about 14 hours.

She was only tied to the "Invisible String" for five shows and traded the opening "Folklore" era number to "The 1" in Arlington, before news of her split from actor Joe Alwyn . She brought "Invisible String" back for one night in Nashville because the Tennessee capital is home to Centennial Park. Nashvillians also noticed that Swift switched a note during "The 1" lyric "you meet a woman on the internet and take her home." She kept the key change for every succeeding show.

Right before the first lyric of "Style" during the "1989" set, fans began a tradition of saying, "What time is it?" to which the singer replied, "Midnight, you come and pick me up." In Sydney, Australia, a "Blank Space" chant from the 1989 World Tour was reborn and repeated in Singapore. Taylor Nation, Swift's marketing team, tweeted that it hopes fans at every tour stop going forward shout their city. In Philadelphia, a "Bad Blood" remix originated when Swift noticed a security guard hassling a fan . "She's fine. She wasn't doing anything. Hey! Stop! Hey, stop!" became the cool thing to say after, "It's so sad to think about the good times, you and I." Fans also incorporated a Kendrick Lamar line from the "Bad Blood" remix: "You forgive, you forget, but you never let it go."

And then came the surprise set . (More on her collaborators and announcements below.) Each night, Swift performed one song on the guitar and one on the piano that she hadn't yet performed on the tour. That is until 2024, when she added mashups and threw out her rule of never repeating songs. At the end of the set, she swan dives into a hole in the stage. Fans later caught a red light that turned green to signal it was safe to jump.

After meeting her at "Midnights," fans sang Jack Antonoff's version of "Anti-Hero." When Swift sings "tale as old as time," the crowd chimes in, "Taylor, you'll be fine." Tyler Conroy made a viral video of him screaming , "Where you going Taylor?" during "Bejeweled" before she sings, "I'm going out tonight," and the trend caught on like a blaze ripping through the Lover house. Finally, after Swift changed the lyrics to, "Karma is the guy on the Chiefs," in Argentina with her boyfriend Travis Kelce in the crowd, that became the standard for fans. She has only sang it that way four times, when he was in attendance in Buenos Aires, Sydney and Singapore.

If you would direct your attention to the back screen

In addition to boosting economies everywhere she went, Swift created an abundance of news. She announced "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" in Nashville. She announced a new version of "Midnights" and premiered the "Karma (Remix)" music video featuring Ice Spice as the upstart rapper joined Swift in East Rutherford, New Jersey. She released "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" right before her Kansas City, Missouri, stop and then debuted the "I Can See You" music video starring Taylor Lautner and Joey King who were at the show. Lautner backflipped on the catwalk.

It might have seemed strange that Swift ended the American leg of her tour on a Wednesday in Los Angeles, but not to the eagle-eyed Swiftie who realized the date was 8/9. That's the day she announced the rerecording of her fifth album, "1989 (Taylor's Version)." The album came out during her break before her Argentina tour dates. It topped the Billboard charts and allowed her to bypass Elvis for the most weeks with an album at No. 1.

Then, she announced her 11th album, "The Tortured Poets Department," at the Grammys after winning her 13th career award. At her tour stops in Melbourne, Sydney and Singapore, she revealed there were four total versions of "Tortured Poets" and told fans they would get a different bonus track on each one : "The Manuscript," "The Bolter," "The Albatross" and "The Black Dog."

Welcome to the acoustic set

One of the most anticipated portions of an Eras Tour show is the acoustic set. At most of the concerts, she only spoke before the guitar song. In rare instances, she tested the microphone before the piano song and made an announcement.

Occasionally she invited collaborators to join her onstage. Marcus Mumford surprised fans in Las Vegas to play "Cowboy Like Me." Her co-producer and close friend Aaron Dessner from The National joined her six times on stage, in Tampa (twice), Nashville, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Santa Clara. Jack Antonoff came out to play "Getaway Car" in New Jersey. Maren Morris did a "You All Over Me" duet in Chicago. When their opening acts were canceled for weather, Gracie Abrams performed "I Miss You, I'm Sorry" and Sabrina Carpenter sang a dyad mashup of "White Horse" and "Coney Island."

Some of the surprise songs came with hidden messages. Fans speculated she sang "Bigger Than The Whole Sky" as an ode to a fan who died , "End Game" to Travis Kelce watching her show from the VIP tent and "Gold Rush" as a congratulations to Jason Kelce for retiring. She has performed "You're On Your Own Kid" five times, in Tampa, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Tokyo and Singapore.

And he never thinks of me, except when I'm on TV

To close out the first year of the Eras Tour, Swift released the third film version of her concert to streaming service Disney+. This version included "Cardigan" and four acoustic songs: "Maroon," "Death By A Thousand Cuts," "You Are In Love" and "I Can See You."

The second version came out on Swift's birthday, Dec. 13. Fans could rent it for 48 hours at a price of $19.89, and it included "The Archer," "Wildest Dreams" and "Long Live" cut from the original movie.

The original movie was released Oct. 13, in the middle of the Hollywood strikes. Swift did what studios and streaming services were unable to: make a deal with SAG-AFTRA. She worked with the unions and was able to market and show her movie how she saw fit. The film made more than $250 million globally and got her nominated for a Golden Globe award .

Would you be interested in one more song?

If you're still with me on this walk down Eras Tour Lane, it's important to make one final note before the tour resumes in Paris in May. Before her magnum opus took off higher than the "Bad Blood" flames, Swift chose "Mirrorball" and "Tim McGraw" to be her very first surprise songs. She ended year one with the same two songs, but flipped the instruments she played them on in a full-circle moment.

Her new album will come out April 19 and the full Eras Tour is streaming on Disney+, which begs the question: What her show will look like come Paris? She has a two-month break before 69 shows scheduled for Europe and North America. She also has two rerecords left to release: "Reputation (Taylor's Version)" and her self-titled debut album.

If there's one thing any Swiftie knows, it's Taylor Swift's ability to make news and create lasting memories through her record-shattering tour. What a first year; on to year two!

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour is live to stream on Disney+ with bonus 'Acoustic Collection'

In living rooms and bedrooms across the world, Taylor Swift fans danced, cheered and sang their hearts out to the Eras Tour. Screaming the bridge to "Cruel Summer," repeating back the secret fandom chants and diving into their couches after the surprise set , Swifties watched the three-and-a-half-hour movie of a tour that broke a Guinness World Record and got Swift and her team nominated for a Golden Globe .

The third version of the movie released with unlimited rewatches to Disney+ subscribers included "Cardigan" and four bonus acoustic songs eliminated from version two released on Swift's birthday last year, Dec. 13. The streaming service even customized its menu with the singer's 10 albums and movies and shows that fit each era. And parents, keep in mind curse words aren't bleeped out.

"Welcome to the acoustic set," Swift said 2 hours and 24 minutes into the movie before playing the original acoustic songs "Our Song" and "You're On Your Own Kid." "When I dreamed up the idea of the Eras Tour, I thought it would be really fun to sort of go back through all these different phases I've had musically because it's been a little bit of everything. You've been so kind in letting me explore genres and step outside boxes that are created for us in the music industry. And that's only because of you that I get to do that."

Then, she strikes the notes of "You Are In Love," "Maroon" and "You're On Your Own Kid" (again) on the piano.

Screen Rant

Taylor swift's perfect the eras tour movie sequel was revealed 5 years ago.

The perfect sequel to Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie can be modelled after one project that was first announced almost five years ago.

  • The Eras Tour brought Taylor Swift the biggest year of her career, with record-breaking success and new accomplishments.
  • Swift should follow up The Eras Tour concert movie with a documentary similar to her 2020 release, Miss Americana, which took fans behind the scenes of her Reputation Stadium Tour and the making of her album Lover.
  • A potential documentary following The Eras Tour and her new album The Tortured Poets Department could also delve into Swift's sensationalized personal life and serve as a career retrospective.

The perfect sequel idea for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour dates back to one announcement from five years ago. Since the beginning of The Eras Tour on March 17, 2023, Swift has had the biggest year of her career. Not only did she embark on a record-breaking world tour and release The Eras Tour concert movie that broke box office and streaming records, but she also dropped two re-recorded Taylor's Version albums, won countless awards including two Grammys, entered her most high-profile relationship in years, and became an NFL darling (or, for some embittered football fans, an enemy).

Now that The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) is officially streaming on Disney+, her focus can shift to the release of Swift's next album, The Tortured Poets Department , on April 19, 2024. Swift first announced the album during her Grammys' acceptance speech for Best Pop Vocal Album on February 4, revealing that she'd been keeping it a secret for two years. TTPD releases just a few weeks before Swift goes back on The Eras Tour on May 9, creating the perfect timeline for a follow-up film to The Eras Tour movie, for which Swift already created the template years ago.

Taylor Swift's Next Album Sets Up A New Eras Tour Movie Cameo That Would Make Up For Cutting HAIM

Taylor swift's best the eras tour movie follow-up is a miss americana-style documentary, swift released the miss americana documentary after the reputation stadium tour concert movie.

As a follow-up to The Eras Tour movie, Swift should release a documentary similar to Miss Americana , which included behind-the-scenes footage of Swift's 2018 Reputation Stadium Tour and showed the creation and rollout of her next album Lover. Swift began writing and recording Lover after wrapping up The Reputation Stadium Tour on November 21, 2018. A month later, Swift released the concert movie Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour on Netflix on New Year's Eve. Swift then announced the release of Miss Americana on November 14, 2019, a week shy of a year after The Reputation Stadium Tour ended.

Just like she did with Miss Americana after the Reputation movie, Swift should follow up The Eras Tour movie with a documentary showing the behind-the-scenes of the tour and the process of making The Tortured Poets Department. Unlike the Reputation movie, all three versions of The Eras Tour movie were released while Swift was simply on hiatus from touring. However, if Swift released a documentary after wrapping up The Eras Tour in December 2024, it would follow a similar release timeline as Miss Americana, which came out more than a year after the Reputation movie and five months after Lover.

While Miss Americana covered a lot of ground, Swift would have even more to break down in a post-Eras Tour documentary.

There's One Perfect Way To Make Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour 2 Happen On Disney+

The eras tour movie's behind the scenes documentary potential is way bigger than reputation, swift has even more to cover in an eras tour documentary.

Along with taking viewers behind the scenes of the Reputation Stadium Tour and the making of Lover, Miss Americana also served as an intimate and in-depth look at Swift's interior life in the wake of her famous phone call scandal with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian which resulted in her disappearance from public life and eventual comeback. Swift unpacked how she " had to deconstruct an entire belief system, toss it out and reject it " after her fall from grace. She also discussed her private relationship with then-boyfriend Joe Alwyn as well as her breaking her political silence in 2018.

Since The Eras Tour is a celebration of all of Swift's musical eras, a documentary could also serve as a career retrospective.

While Miss Americana covered a lot of ground, Swift would have even more to break down in a post-Eras Tour documentary. In addition to her record-breaking world tour and Album of the Year win at the Grammys, Swift's personal life has received more attention than ever due to her breakup with Alwyn, fling with The 1975's Matty Healey, and new relationship with Chiefs' player Travis Kelce. Although Travis Kelce does not appear in The Eras Tour movie , it would make sense for the NFL star to be part of a documentary chronicling the time when the power couple started dating.

Swift's Album of the Year win for Midnights at the 2024 Grammys marked her fourth win after Fearless in 2010, 1989 in 2016, and folklore in 2021, breaking the record for most Album of the Year wins by any artist.

Taylor Swift's 8 Documentaries & Concert Movies, Ranked (Including Eras Tour)

Since The Eras Tour is a celebration of all of Swift's musical eras, a documentary could also serve as a career retrospective in which Swift looks back at how far she's come since debuting in 2006. This would provide the perfect opportunity to delve into Scooter Braun's controversial purchase of her masters and her subsequent re-recording project. A Miss Americana -style documentary is Swift's best bet at a successful Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour sequel that is distinct enough from the concert movie but still related, while also providing a holistic view of her life and world domination during the tour.

After The Eras Tour Movie, Is Disney Boss Teasing More Taylor Swift Concerts Coming To Disney+?

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) may not be causing actual seismic activity from the home viewing parties that have been happening since the iconic concert special became available to stream with a Disney+ subscription , but it’s definitely making waves over at the House of Mouse. Disney CEO Bob Iger indicated as much during the shareholders meeting held April 3 , so is it possible that Taylor Swift will be teaming up with the streamer for future concert specials?

That question was asked directly to the CEO at the end of Wednesday’s call, and — as reported by our own Dirk Libbey — he didn’t have anything to announce at that time. However, Bob Iger did say that Disney wants to continue their great relationship with Taylor Swift.

The 13-time Grammy winner always has upcoming projects for Swifties to be excited about, so there’s undoubtedly plenty of potential for concert specials and more on Disney+ in the future. In addition to the Eras Tour concert film that was released in March, the streaming service was already home to Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions , a documentary where she spoke about and performed all 17 songs from her eighth studio album.

After Taylor Swift’s Reputation Stadium Tour special left Netflix at the end of 2023, is it possible Disney+ could pick that up for itself — possibly to coincide with the as-yet-unannounced release date of Reputation (Taylor’s Version ) ? Could there possibly be accompanying material with the upcoming release of The Tortured Poets Department , Taylor Swift’s 11th album, out April 19?

With Bob Iger saying there was nothing immediate to announce, those possibilities don’t seem especially promising, but you can never tell with Swift, who is known to be very intentional about when and how she reveals these sorts of projects.

With the Midnights artist being the biggest celebrity in music right now — if not the world — Disney definitely should be looking for ways to grow their relationship with her. One of those avenues may be to bring more Taylor Swift into the Disney parks . Can you imagine a “Getaway Car”-themed roller coaster or a fireworks show where the kingdom lights can shine just for me and you?

Between Taylor Swift and Disney, there are more than enough creative juices to keep the projects coming. But as Swifties wait for those things to come to fruition, they appear to be more than happy to continue replaying their favorite moments of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie . The artist added all three acoustic sets from the shows that were filmed in Los Angeles, allowing fans to experience even more of the Eras Tour surprise songs than they got in theaters or by renting the concert special afterward.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) is available to watch online from anywhere and be sure to check out everything else that is new and upcoming to Disney+ .
