While it is easy to capture people, landscapes, and culture, capturing wildlife poses a slight degree of challenge, as there are several dynamics involved. The professional documentaries that you see on television on wildlife involve months of shooting, expensive equipment, special permissions from the authorities, weeks of post-production, and plenty of resources. Importantly, you don’t see those things when you yourself are on a tiger safari tour.

Please see the video below shot by our team during a tiger safari tour  in India, using a regular video camera, in a regular wildlife safari vehicle, with no tripods, and no extra permissions. This is how you see tigers during a tiger safari in India . We are here to guide you on important things to keep in mind before you go out for a tiger safari India tour. Tiger Safari India Tour Destinations

There are over 600 national parks in India which are home to close to 200 endangered mammal species. The Royal Bengal Tiger is one of the flagship species as not only is it the apex predator of the very forests that thrive here, but it is also the biggest cat among its brothers.

Recently conducted, the latest Tiger census saw a substantial increase of about 22% in the big cat population. While this is attributed to the commendable effort of the people involved in conservation, this feat is also credited to the resilience and adaptability of the Royal Bengal Tiger throughout the entire Indian subtropical eco-system.

National Parks in India vary with varying tropics and landscapes. We have the dry deciduous forest of Ranthambore National Park in the western part of India, while the evergreen Sal forest of Kanha National Park thrives in Central India. Corbett National Park is unique as it rests in the foothills of the Great Himalayan Range, making it an awe-stunning frame to capture. India has some of the most biodiverse lands, making it a hotspot for wildlife and tiger safaris and nature enthusiasts.

It is also important to note that Wildlife Tourism in India has played a key role in the conservation of important flora and fauna in our national parks. The flow of money into local communities because of tourism-related activities, has considerably reduced the pressure on the forests for bio-mass. This development has allowed the resurgence of wildlife within national parks of India , which in turn allows visitors to immerse in complete wilderness experiences as animals go about their extraordinary lives. Mentioned below are some of the most enthralling national parks for wildlife and tiger safaris in India, that invite eco enthusiasts from around the globe.

Despite a poor start with a very bad choice of hotel in Delhi (Radison Blu Dwarka) and the need to change driver, the few hiccups during the tour were fixed quickly and professionally by World Travel Experience staff. Every day of the tour presented a diverse and informative look into life in modern and historic Rajasthan. Our local guides were on the whole well trained, informative and entertaining, maybe recommend less of the "hard sell" at the local "Artisan" shops that were part of every local tour. The highlight of the tour was a overnight stay at Sardargarh Fort.

Tiger Safari and Agra Taj Mahal Tour Starts from Jaipur ends in Delhi - 3 Days 2 Nights Tour

Tiger Safari and Agra Taj Mahal Tour Starts from Jaipur ends in Delhi - 3 Days 2 Nights

After volunteering my friend and I took the Taj Mahal and Ranthambore Park tour. An air conditioned van picked us up at our homestay. The guide Raj was with us the entire time. Along the way we stopped at historical temples. The hotels were very nice. All had air conditioning and comfy beds (equivalent of a Hampton inn or Holiday inn in the USA.) The Taj Mahal is breathtaking and we had a great guide who not only told us the history and pointed out architectural details, but also knew where and how to get the best photos. Ranthambore Park is amazing. The Jeep safari was so much fun! We didn’t see a tiger on our tour, but the Jeep right in front of us did! We did see so many animals! Wild pigs, antelopes, monkeys, and many beautiful birds. Along the whole tour our guide took us to many interesting places to stop and eat (we didn’t want to stop at the western style restaurants, but preferred local food.) and we also got to visit shops and things. It really was an amazing time. We didn’t have to worry about a single thing and got dropped at the airport for our flight home. I would really recommend volunteering through VWI as well as taking one of their amazing tours! I can’t wait to go back and do the Varanasi tour next!

From Delhi: North India, Taj Mahal and Ranthambore Wildlife Safari Private Tour

Tour was very enjoyable and I do recommend to anyone wanting to travel to India. Our driver Raj was spectacular! Best driver and very accomodating! Accomodation was great. A few things to keep in mind: practically all the sites/monuments you see have an entrance fee that range from $10-$25. These can really add up! Tips for all the guides (one in each city) and the driver (as expected). Also, the safaris are an additional cost to the tour (I missed that note prior to booking). Still highly recommend the tour there is quite a lot of driving, however I really enjoyed the scenery and driving thought all the small towns, so I didn’t mind all the driving :) India is a beautiful country that everyone should experience Thank you !

Our family had a customized tour that included all three national parks for tiger safaris as well as the traditional golden triangle tour. We had 2 different drivers during the tour that picked us up at the airport or drove us to the next location. The drivers were always early, extremely friendly and helpful, and the cars were immaculate. We stayed at six different hotels that were picked out for us. They were all very nice and I would stay at them again. The guides at each location were very knowledgeable and friendly. The company itself stayed in contact with me throughout the trip to make sure I did not need anything. I would highly recommend this company. This tour was much more flexible and convenient than participating in a group tour where everyone has to keep up with a group pace.

Total tour arrangements is highly rated since we had a very professionally organized tour with a fantastic driver. One of the most important things was security and clean rooms and that factor was definitely fulfilled. Tiger safari was a success, we saw a beautiful tiger and took plenty of amazing pictures. We loved India and got a deep insight into their culture having met lots of local interactions with the local people and also thanks to our driver who saw us real life of Indian people as well as villages. We love this tour.

This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I wouldn't have missed it for the world! The tour was truly amazing. We visited some of Malaysia's most beautiful and iconic places, including the Tiger National Park, the Elephant National Park and Mount Kinabalu – all of which are world-renowned for their tiger, elephant and mountaineering populations. The landscapes were stunning, the wildlife was incredible, and the tour guide was informative and engaging. I highly recommend this trip if you're looking for an exciting and enriching experience.

Tiger Safari Reviews

We had a great time in India. The tour manager Mr. Amit was very responsive to all my questions and issues prior to the trip and was waiting for us to greet us at the first hotel. Our driver Mr. Vikram was great too. He was very professional and was always on time waiting for us each day. We absolutely loved our local guide in Jaipur. He was so professional, knowledgeable and quick that we felt we were very well taken care of. Now here’s the reason I can’t give 5 stars to this tour. It was the hotel in Jaipur and the local guide in Delhi. The hotel was not up to the standard of 3 stars at all. The bathroom was disgusting, moldy and gross. They called us around 10pm asking us to order room service both nights we stayed. It was the most horrible service that I have ever experienced at any hotels around the world. Now the local guide in Delhi, he made us decide to say goodbye after 3 hours. We never had a problem tipping people at all until the rickshaw ride (which was included in the tour). It was such a turn off moment for us when the guide asked us to tip them 200 for a 200 ride. He was also on the personal phone calls a lot, which made us feel that he really didn’t want to be there at all for us. We had to call it a day.
Pushpendre our guide was extremely helpful polite and informative He was keen to accommodate our needs and explain any issues we did not understand He was always pointing out things we may find interesting and to stop for photos We were very impressed by his driving skills Overall he enhanced our enjoyment of the trip Maureen and Alexandra

The biggest challenge in the jungle is the tiger. Being an extraordinarily charismatic animal it has the potential of achieving a state of virtual nonexistence while surviving inside the domain of its prey’s highly attuned senses. Tiger’s ability to disappear is matchless and thus is a test for anyone to track him in its range. This is where our veteran naturalists excel, as they understand the tiger, it’s territory, its trail, and its behaviour quite well. Many can show tigers in the wild, but our Naturalists will enhance your jungle lore.

Thus not only is it important to choose the right National Parks for your tiger safaris in India , but it is acutely critical to choose the right people to do safaris with. Designing the right tour, with right location, right number of days, picking the right tiger safari zones, and to be accompanied by an expert Naturalist on your safari is vital to your extraordinary experience during your tiger safaris in India.

We at Tiger Safari India present some of our carefully curated tiger and wildlife safari tours which will suit the requirements of everyone from a wildlife enthusiast to a professional wildlife photographer willing to capture the big cat the Royal Bengal Tiger in his/her camera. Tiger Safaris in India

Unlike lions, tiger is a solo stealth hunter, more like a lone assassin. To make things more tough for the tiger is the fact that the tiger prey typically travels in herds. The prey has herd immunity as they have dozens of eyes, ears, and nostrils to see, smell and hear the movement of the tiger. Therefore, the tiger must move, and be where its prey is, and its prey must move away from where the tiger is. This makes tiger tracking more insightful, and challenging during the tiger safaris.

Thus, sighting tigers in the wild is by no means a trivial task. It requires patience, persistence and perseverance to scientifically assess the tiger whereabouts. To be able to see it emerge from the thickets and walk on the trail of your safari vehicle is not always an accident. With the help of our skilled team, we showcase every little nuance that will help our guests to witness the elusive striped cat in all its glory.

Whether it’s the tiger-teeming Bandhavgarh, the ruins of Ranthambore, the picturesque landscape of Corbett or the bamboo tracts of Tadoba, we’re here to curate an extraordinary tiger safari India tour that will be etched forever within the fabric of your mind.

  • Discover Historic treasures of Delhi , Khajuraho , and Jaipur

--> Day 1 - Welcome to Delhi!

It’s the first day of your Wildlife India Tour ! After your arrival at the Delhi International Airport and on completion of the customs procedures, you will be greeted by our representative, who will deliver all your travel documents and transport you safely and comfortably to your hotel. India’s second-largest city is situated next to Mumbai on the Northern side of the country. It is rich in history and has an abundance of culture and heritage. This city has seen the rise and fall of many Empires and has been rebuilt eight times by those who conquered it. The evidence of the reign of the British, Hindu, and Muslim Empires, remains throughout and can be seen distinctively in the architecture, customs, food, and lifestyles of the people. But, there is new dawn arising as it is gradually evolving as India’s modern capital metropolis. Overnight in Delhi.

--> Day 2 - Guided Tour of Old and New Delhi

Old Delhi is a vibrant and colorful city and is laid out with a network of narrow alleys and tall buildings. Whether you walk or travel through old Delhi on a rickshaw, you will experience the life and hustle bustle that is truly Indian. Visit the bazaars! See the fantastic sights! Hear the Indian beats! Smell the aromas of Old Delhi! While there, we must visit the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site called Red Fort. This fort consists of marble palaces and courtyards, which are encircled by the beautiful marble domed Jama Masjid with its towers, the Meena bazaar, and the Chandni Chowk.

Our next stops will be to two UNESCO World Heritage sites. First, we visit the charming Humayun’s Tomb , which is a perfect representation of early Mughal architecture, with some elements of Persian design. It is thought that this structure was the forerunner to and inspiration of the Taj Mahal design. Then we will visit the massive Qutab Minar “the most beautiful example of its class known anywhere” described Victorian historian James Ferguson. It is indeed a magnificent victory tower that was built as a memorial of Qutb-ud-Din’s defeat of the Turks back in 1236 and it can be seen from miles away.

New Delhi really is a stark contrast to Old Delhi , it is a city of extensive boulevards and is well known for its official parks, impressive Parliament Building, the Rashtrapati Bhawan (the official residence of the President) and the India Gate , which was built to memorialize the 90,000 soldiers of the former British Indian Army who died fighting for the Indian Empire in the Afghan Wars and World War 1.

We will take a guided shopping tour of Delhi in the afternoon and browse through the posh Khan Market, which is frequented mainly by expats and well-off Indians. This market is rated as the 21st most expensive retail high street in the world. Visit the Meherchand Market not far away and shop for your Indian weaves, designer leather bags, organic spices and a variety of other products. Stop at the ancient historic village of Hauz Khas which has been transformed into a sophisticated village with antique shops, art and designer stores. Overnight in Delhi.

--> Day 3 - From Delhi to Jaipur (260 Km, 5 Hours), Half-Day Guided Tour of Jaipur

After your fill of a hearty breakfast, we will travel to Jaipur , a place of kings, queens, and legends and the opening to the lively, marvelous state of Rajasthan. Jaipur was established in 1727 by Maharaja Jai Singh II, a mighty warrior, and astronomer. It is also known as the “ Pink City ” with its pink sandstone architecture that adds to its uniqueness and color. It is also distinguished by its palaces with intricately carved designs, forts, Havelis and fantastic bazaars.

Transfer to the hotel after arrival.

Vibrant colorful bazaars and delicious cuisine! That’s what Jaipur is famous for and you will want to take in as much of the action as you can. So after a short rest at the hotel, we head to the old pink city for a guided and exciting tour of the famous bazaars.

It will be a quick ride to MI Road where we will have lunch at Natraj . You can take your pick from the delicious dishes on the menu, with a wide variety of Indian, Chinese and Continental favorites. Don’t be shy, try out some different meals like thali, which is a large plate with small amounts of a variety of curries and Indian breads. After lunch we head to none other than Lassiwala a little further at #312 and with the sign “since 1944”. It is here that you will be treated to a delightful yogurt drink in an earthenware cup. Simply Delicious!

Enjoy lunch and take a stroll over to the Tripolia Bazaar on the West. Located on a narrow street with shop after shop lining its edges you will find a wide selection of traditional Rajasthan-style bangles, necklaces and other jewelry. It’s a good time and place to do some bargaining. Not far away we take a walk south to the Johari Bazaar or Jewel Market, taking in all the city’s sights and sounds. Here you will find shopping for everyone, tourists and locals alike: saris, scarves and well-known Jaipur jewelry. A note to the wise however; before buying large quantities, do some research first. We then make a right turn towards the Bapu Bazaar which sells mainly housewares and accessories. Check out the mirror-work, draperies, bedspreads, and other linens and if you wish, get your arm or hands designed by a skillful henna (mehendi) artist on the side of the road.

Our day will end at the Nahargarh Fort , also called Tiger Fort , which was constructed in 1734 by Jai Singh as a security bolster for Amer Fort. On the North and overlooking the city from the edge of the ridge this fort is a sight to behold in the night, as the floodlit walls bounce off yellow, orange and white reflections, illuminating the night skies. To reach the fort you travel on a winding path 8 km through the hills from Jaipur. When you get to the top drink a well -deserved cold beer and cast your eyes over Jaipur’s splendid view beneath. Awesome! Overnight in Jaipur.

--> Day 4 - Morning Guided Tour of Jaipur, Afternoon Drive to Ranthambhore National Park (165 Km, 3-4 hours)

We make our way to the magnificent Amber Fort after breakfast. It has been given its place among the Six Hill Forts of Rajasthan that have been chosen as UNESCO World Heritage sites. It will be an adventure touring this fort from the beginning to the end. You have an option if you want, to hop on an elephant’s back to make your way there or perhaps you prefer more modern transportation by jeep. Whichever way you choose, it will be worth it. Eleven kilometers from Jaipur you will have the privilege of seeing a fantastic exhibition of Rajput architecture that is an excellent representation of the old capital during the Kachhawah Empire. Maharaja Raja Man Singh started the first palace while MaharajaSawai Jai Singh later finished it. Be amazed at the old fortress with a maze of vast walls and beautiful marble towers standing in the midst, carved and brightened by the numerous small mirrors that glimmer playfully. Inside the palace there are The Diwan-e-Aam, or Public Hall, the Diwan-e-Khas, or the Private Hall and the Sukh Niwas, the perfect spot to feel the refreshing air that emanates from the water channels in the summer. Admire the famous Sheesh Mahal or “Hall of Mirrors” in the Jai Mandir or the “Temple of Victory”, then check out the queens’ private rooms from which they could watch what was happening around them in privacy.

We head back into the Pink City for a tour of the Hawa Mahal or Palace of the Winds. This pink building with a pink sandstone exterior was erected for the royal ladies to be able to watch the parades and the events on the streets below without anyone noticing them. We will walk around the corner and enter this magnificent building. The interior is a beautiful display of small chambers and stained-glass windows, along with a stunning view over Jaipur city.

The next stop will be the City Palace . This museum is massive and is well-loved for its exhibits of royal clothing, palanquins, and carpets. It shows off an impressive fusion of traditional Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. There is also a special room set for the ancient armory and miniature paintings depicting battles and court scenes. As you walk further on the inside, you will see the Chandra Mahal which is still a royal residence and because of this, there is a restriction on visitation. Nevertheless, you will still enjoy a walk around this spectacular seven-story building. You will browse around the courtyard known as the Pitam Niwas Chowk with four doors including the, especially beautiful peacock door. Next to that is another one of India’s outstanding UNESCO World Heritage Sites called Jantar Mantar . This is India’s best kept of the five solar observatories all named Jantar Mantars across Northern India. You will be astounded by these 14 huge and ancient astronomical instruments, which despite being built in the 18th century by Maharajah Jai Singh II are still able to foretell when an eclipse will occur, tell time accurately up to 2 seconds and measure distances amongst other things. Just Incredible!

When lunch is over, we take the eagerly awaited drive to Ranthambhore National Park , to begin our Tiger searching adventure! Ranthambore is an exceptionally charming place resting between the Vindhyan Plateau and the Aravali Hills in Rajasthan’s eastern section, which was the ancient hunting place for Jaipur’s Maharajas. Set in an area of 1334 square km, the original idea of Jaipur’s leaders was to preserve this area for nature. In 1955 Ranthambore was transformed into a Safari reserve and became one of India’s first protected areas even though it only became an official National Park in 1984. In 1972 with the introduction of the “Project Tiger” it became one of the first reserves to host tigers. You will find the environs to be very pleasing. The park gets most of its water from the Banas in the North and the Chambal River in the South and has an amazingly beautiful landscape, including six man-made streams and lakes that are always filled with water.

Upon arrival in Ranthambhore, Transfer to your Jungle Lodge on the outskirts of the national park. Overnight in Ranthambhore.

--> Day 5-6 - Morning and Afternoon game drives in the Ranthambore National Park!

It’s early in the morning and time to sip on your welcome cup of tea or coffee, delivered straight to your door at dawn. Slip-on enough clothes to keep you warm and get ready for the tiger safari. The sun rises and at the entrance you will be accompanied by a Forest Department guide (mandatory). His role is to help you spot the tiger and the other wildlife in the park, ensure your safety and make sure the rules are kept. Note that there are times when only shared jeeps are allowed to enter the Ranthambore National Park, in an effort to control vehicular traffic.

This park is home to an abundance of mammals and birds. There are numerous Spotted Deer (Chital) and Sambar Deer (Swamp Deer) who feed way out in the lakes and sometimes you can only see their heads. Look out for Common Langurs, Nilgai (the largest of India’s antelopes), Mugger (Crocodiles) in the lakes and Monitor Lizards on the shores and a fantastic array of birds including peafowls in the lakes, Bronze-winged and Pheasant-tailed Jacanas and the Cotton Pygmy Geese. Chances are we will come across a Sloth Bear, Leopard, or maybe a Chinkara Antelope (or Indian Gazelle). So even if we do not get a view of a tiger on this safari it would still have been an unforgettable morning.

All good things must come to an end and so we complete our tour in the park, we go back to the hotel for breakfast and then make our way to the impressive fort of Ranthambore (you can visit Ranthambore Fort on any of the two days stay in Ranthambore). It is located on a cliff some 65 meters high and offers spectacular views of the landscape over the Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary and is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Late in the afternoon we can go back to the park by jeep and stay there until sunset. Our journey back is lit by oil lamps and before having a much-needed sleep, we enjoy dinner and have some stories and drinks around the campfire. Overnight in Ranthambhore.

--> Day 7 - From Ranthambore to Agra, Enroute visit Keoladeo National Park

On Day seven we have breakfast then take a long five-hour drive to Agra known for being the home of the glorious Taj Mahal. As we make our way there, we stop off at Keoladeo Ghana National Park  a UNESCO World Heritage Natural Site. Keoladeo National Park at Bharatpur, in Rajasthan, is a bird watcher’s paradise and is accepted as one of Asia’s most outstanding vast wetland reserves and was initially created for duck shooting. The connecting shallow swamps in the Park, which are constantly refilled by monsoon rains throughout the summer, become a sanctuary for thousands of migratory birds during the winter months. Our exploration of this 29km park will be on foot and also by bicycle rickshaw. You have also an option of doing a Boat safari in Keoladeo National Park (subject to enough water). You will be excited to see the over 150 species of birds that inhabit this park: the Ruddy-breasted Crake, White-tailed Eagle, Sarus Crane to Small Minivet, and water birds like the Black-necked and Painted Storks, Cotton Pygmy-goose, Intermediate Egret, Black Cormorants, and Darter. Then there are also the rare Ferruginous and Red-crested Pochards and Greater Painted-snipe.

But the park is not only about birds because it also houses a wide variety of wild animals including the hard to find Fishing Cat. This park is one of the few places where this animal is known to be. Also keep your eyes out for the Sambar (swamp deer) and Spotted Deer, Nilgai (blue bull), Asiatic Jackal, Wild Boar, and two species of mongoose.

When we arrive in Agra in the afternoon we transfer to the hotel and after a short rest we make our way to take in the breathtaking “Love Poem in Marble” the Taj Mahal at sunset. Probably the most photographed monument in the world, the Taj Mahal will not disappoint. Indeed it’s the world’s wonder of wonders with unsurpassed beauty. It is an extraordinary tribute of endless love from Moghul Emperor Shah Jahan to his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal who died during childbirth. Perfectly proportioned and exhibiting the highest quality of marble with mosaic work done with semi-precious stones, the Taj Mahal showcases the outstanding abilities of the 20,0000 artisans from countries like Turkey, France, Persia and Italy who labored for some 17 years to build it.

Spend the night at a hotel in Agra

--> Day 8 - Train from Agra to Jhansi, Car drive from Jhansi to Khajuraho, Enroute visit the medieval charming town of Orchha

Enjoy breakfast early this morning and proceed to the Agra railway station to travel in air-condition chair-class on the superfast Shatabdi Express train to Jhansi, departing at 08:00 hours and arriving at 10:00 hours. We will then drive for four hours to Khajuraho.

Along the way we will stop in Orchha , a tiny ancient town on the Betwa riverbanks. Here you will find 16th-century temples and thousands of devotees and tourists in the tranquil countryside environment. Immerse yourself in the serenity and natural settings of this village.

Then we visit the Jehangir Mahal , a Hindu-Islamic designed memorial dedicated to the visit of Mughal Emperor Jehangir to Orchha. Not too far away is the Raj Mahal , replete with a wealth of lively murals depicting both secular and religious themes that enliven the walls and ceilings. The Raj Parveen Mahal palace is a wonderful two-storey building constructed to match the height of the trees in the gardens of Anand Mahal and devoted to the love of Raja Indramani.

In Orchha we will enjoy a delicious lunch and then drive to Khajuraho , Central India’s temple city. It consists of a significant number of temples carved with precision and erotic 10th-century sculptures that were erected by the Chandela Dynasty over a period of 100 years. After the Afghan invasion the creators of the temples fled, and they were left in the jungles untouched for centuries. It was only after a British officer on a hunting expedition stumbled upon them in 1838 that they were restored. Although only twenty-five of the eighty-five temples remain, it is believed that some of the best temple architecture anywhere in the world can be found here. Khajuraho remains an important religious center and equals centers like Bhubaneswar (Orissa) and Aihole (Karnataka). It is no secret that the carvings on these temples dedicated to a variety of deities are highly sensual and erotic. For that reason it has become a major attraction.

Transfer to the Hotel after arrival! Overnight in Khajuraho

--> Day 9 - Visit of Khajuraho Temples, Drive to Bandhavgarh National Park (275 Km, 5-6 hours drive)

Today we will visit Khajuraho’s Western Group of Temples , which consists of the impressive Lakshmana Temple, one of the best-kept temples of the group and is dedicated to Vishnu. A must-see is the Shiva temple of Kandariya-Mahadev dated back to the 11th century, an outstanding illustration of the brilliance of the ancient Chandela architects. It is some 31m high and has almost 1000 statues decorating the walls of the temple’s interior and exterior. Further into the inner sanctuary is the fertility symbol of Shiva which is the phallus or stone lingam. One of the main attractions of this temple is the erotic and sensual sculptures exhibiting passion, emotion, and sexual fervor. Apart from the deities immortalized in stone there is a wealth of sensuous and erotic sculptures with an exquisite depiction of human life and emotions, equating passion with a spiritual union. The sculptures are considered to be the most perfect figures achieved in stone which depict gods, goddesses, and amorous couples.

It takes two to three hours to visit the temples of Khajuraho, after which we leave for Bandhavgarh National Park . On the way we take lunch.

Upon arrival, transfer to the Hotel. Overnight in Jungle Lodge in Bandhavgarh.

--> Day 10-11 - Bandhavgarh National Park – Morning and Afternoon Game Drives

Bandhavgarh National Park, Madhya Pradesh  is one of the most beautiful in India and carries the name of the tallest hill in the park (807m), where the Bandhavgarh fort is located. Visitors are offered much more than amazing wildlife as there is also history, temples, incredible hermit caves carved by hand, 10th-century shrines all snuggled within sal trees (Shorea robusta) and forests irrigated by springs and streams, along with precipitous rugged hills and valleys. Because of the terrain and the fact that the park’s roads cut across the forests, your chances of spotting the tigers in Bandhavgarh are increased.

With a core area of 105 km² (and a buffer zone of approximately 400 km²), this is the smallest of the three parks in the region – the others being Kanha and Pench – but it has one of the highest concentrations of tigers in India and is quite popular as a result.

Bandhavgarh National Park is a natural environment that is unblemished and an excellent home for its wildlife inhabitants, which include of course, the tigers. But there are other fascinating animals like the Sloth Bear, Gaur (Indian Bison), Leopard, Wild Boar, Porcupine and of course the Spotted Deer and Chinkara (Indian Gazelle). There is also an abundance of other animals like the Golden Jackal, Rhesus Macaques, Gray Langur (Semnopithecus), Striped Hyena, Small Indian Civet and the Jungle Cat. Not forgetting such beautiful birds as the Rock Pigeon, Long-Billed Vultures, Plum-Headed Parakeet, and the Orange-Headed Thrush.

It’s such a wonderful location that we will spend two full days at the Bandhavgarh National Park. You will have the very best guides and environmentalists on tour with you and when you spot the tigers you have enough time to track their movements. There will be a burst of excitement at your first sighting; perhaps it will be when they are playing, sleeping, hunting or drinking. Cherish this awesome moment! Don’t leave the park without climbing up to the Bandhavgarh Fort, a trek well worth it for the astonishing view of the beautiful countryside below, atop one of India’s oldest forts.

Please Note: On all of our tours we make every effort to provide three game drives through Tala gate (Premium Zone) and two game drives through Magdhi & Khatoli gate (Normal Zone)

--> Day 12 - Morning Jeep Safari in Bandhavgarh, Drive to Kanha Tiger Reserve – fabulous road trip along its picturesque countryside

This morning we continue our tiger safari India, as we go on another game drive hoping for another sighting of the majestic and powerful tiger.

Go back to the Jungle Lodge for breakfast.

Continue the day with a drive to the Kanha Tiger Reserve some five hours away. As we travel along this route from Bandhavgarh to Kanha you will encounter lovely landscapes and a kaleidoscope of nature’s colors that will thrill your total being. Beds of beautiful yellow flowers intermingled with emerald, green hills, fields with pink and purple flowers all blending nicely to create spectacular picture-perfect scenes. As you drive along the well-paved roads you will be charmed by the goings-on in the villages, as the people of this region go about their everyday lives; men working in their fields, children on bicycles, women in their beautiful saris carrying out their daily chores. The small homes are made of mud and tiled roofs amidst the peaceful lakes and rivers.

Kanha Tiger Reserve situated in Madhya Pradesh in the heart of Central India is the largest tiger reserve in the country and one of the best parks for tiger sightings. It is believed that it inspired the writings of Kipling’s Jungle Book.

It spans area of 1945 sq. km. including a core area of 940 sq km. Kanha offers an amazing panoramic view: rivers and valleys, precipitous cliffs, hilltop forests and bamboo, thick low lying forest of sal trees that are forever green and rising and falling grasslands. Adding to this awesome environment are some 200 species of birds like the Crested Serpent Eagle, Peafowl, Grey Hornbill and the Hawk Eagle.

This reserve also houses some 22 species of mammals, the only four-horned ungulate in the world the Chausingha (four-horned antelope), Tigers, Gaur (Indian Bison) and the Barasingha (Rucervus duvaucelii branderi) known as the Swamp Deer), which was almost extinct until recently, when the numbers were increased from a mere 66 to 550 by June 2015.

It is very likely that you will also get a glimpse of a sloth bear or leopard.

At the Kanha Reserve the most often seen animals are the Jackal, Wild Boar, Langur, Swamp Deer (Cervus unicolor), Sambhar Deer (Cervus duvauceli) and Chital (Axis Axis) more popularly known as the Spotted Deer which lets you know when there is a tiger somewhere close. Drive through the Jungle – listen to the warning calls – exciting.

The first scientific study on tigers was started by the well-known zoologist George Schaller and there is the possibility that the grasslands maybe extended to encourage the increase in habitat. This is being done under the “hard ground” project. If implemented there will be a displacement of the surrounding villages.

We stay at the jungle lodge on the outskirts of the Kanha Tiger Reserve and that’s where we go after arrival.

Spend the Night in Kanha.

Please Note: Our itinerary in Kanha includes five Exclusive game drives and we always make every effort to ensure that there are three drives for Kanha Zone (Premium) and two drives for Kisli, Sarahi and Mukki zones.

--> Day 13-14 - Kanha Tiger Reserve– Tiger safari India-Morning and Afternoon Game Drives

Rise early! Expect an adventure! You will have two full days to enjoy and explore the Kanha National Park, a fantastic space with great looking tigers. We journey there before sunrise, looking to increase our chances of seeing a tiger. Surreal is the simplest way to describe the feeling of being in such a natural environment, with the most refreshing atmosphere and gorgeous landscapes of sal and other trees and every shade of green mixed with the orange-red flowers of the butea gum trees. Added to that there are several species of beautiful, colorful wildlife in all shapes and sizes. It would be no surprise if this is what inspired Henry David Thoreau, the famous American philosopher to pen the classics Walden and The Maine Woods. As you set out to explore this vast national park, make sure you put on the right clothing to keep you warm; it can be quite cold early in the morning.

For the next few hours, you can take a little rest, eat some lunch, watch the birds, freshen up or trek around the camp’s environs by foot.

Later in the afternoon you get the opportunity to go back to the park until sunset by jeep. Oil lamps will light our way home. If you are not too tired you can have a nice chat about the day’s events around the campfire before dinner and then get some sleep.

Don’t miss the chance while you stay in Kanha to take a cycle ride and visit the nearby villages and browse the local market, discovering more about Kanha and its surrounding areas.

Overnight in Kanha Tiger Reserve.

--> DAY 15 - Drive from Kanha to Jabalpur (155 Km, 3 hours), Fly to New Delhi

It’s the morning of our final day on our India Tiger tour and we will make our last expedition of this magnificent park searching for these large orange striped cats. Then we will drive to Jabalpur and fly back to Delhi.

After you arrive in Delhi you can either head to the airport and go to your next destination or spend the night in Delhi!

Rajasthan tour with national parks.

**This review was written in German and has been translated using Google Translator

We decided to book the round trip on VacationIndia.com because the website was very appealing and also showed flexibility. Rajasthan with the Rambathore National Park seemed tempting, but we wanted more nature. Vikas has added another national park (Bandavagarh) to the trip. The total of 8 game drives in the two national parks were great and we saw some tigers and even leopards. The whole trip was very well organized. Everything always worked out on time, even with the two domestic flights. We had a good comfortable car, very safe drivers and competent, very friendly guides in all cities. We would especially like to mention Imran in Agra. On the way, clean restaurants with delicious lunches were always approached. The selected hotels have all convinced us, especially in terms of ambience and location. Vikas was always personally c oncerned and kept asking via Whats App if everything was working. We would like to thank him very much for the dinner in Agra, where we ate great and had a lot of fun.

The train journey from Jainsi to Agra was also very interesting and the train journey from Phulad to Kamlighat was very impressive. Looking back, we can only say: it was so exciting, instructive and varied. Yes, we thoroughly enjoyed every day.

It was the first trip to India but certainly not the last, because the large country inspires with all its cultural and natural treasures.

Tiger Trail Of India

tiger tour india

India is home to nearly half of the world’s wild tiger population. So, if catching a sneak peek of one of these elusive beasts in its natural habitat is on your bucket list, then this epic tiger trail tour through the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh presents the opportunity to experience the thrill of a possible sighting.

Over the course of 19 days, you will enter five magnificent tiger reserves and witness the abundant diversity of flora and fauna that only the Indian subcontinent can deliver. Carpeted by lush deciduous and bamboo forests, Madhya Pradesh is home to some of the world’s rarest wildlife, sharing its habitat with diverse and colorful endemic birds.

Astonishing Destinations

Bandhavgarh, Kanha, Pench, Bori, and Satpura are all important Indian national parks and wildlife sanctuaries renowned for their tiger populations. Bandhavgarh National Park, rightfully called the ‘Land of the Tiger’, was once a famous hunting ground for the Maharajas of Rewa, who ruled these lands. Today the park is reserved for shooting tigers with cameras only; it is the place where you are most likely to see one of these majestic cats.

Kanha National Park is famous for its huge grassland meadows and tall sal forests, a much loved and well managed conservation jewel. Despite the fact that Rudyard Kipling never visited Madhya Pradesh, it is widely believed he set ‘The Jungle Book’ in the district of Seoni on the outskirts of what is now Pench National Park. It is set within a breathtaking landscape of hills crisscrossed with rivers and streams, and comprises the Mowgli Pench Sanctuary.

Satpura is a one-of-a-kind tiger reserve located south of the beautiful Narmada river and featuring a rugged landscape of sandstone peaks, narrow gorges, ravines and dense forests. The most unique thing about this tiger reserve is that it allows cycling, canoeing, and trekking. Forming part of the Satpura Tiger Reserve, the Bori Wildlife Sanctuary is a relatively unexplored forest reserve that boasts a diverse range of plants and animals, and is well known for its spectacular views, lush valleys, narrow gorges and waterfalls.

In truth, you’ll be swept away by the contrasting terrains and nature of all of these tiger reserves.

Exciting Excursions

All of the featured excursions on this family adventure tour can be tailored in accordance with your personal wishes; they are all private tours and transport with an expert private naturalist guide. These parks offer a lot more than just tigers, the diverse range of wildlife includes panthers, wolves, hyenas, wild dogs, gaur, cheetahs, sambhar, barking deer, sloth bears, leopards, rhesus monkeys, jungle cats, cheetal (spotted deer) and sambar.

The wildlife can be observed from safaris in open jeeps, as well as on jungle walks, night drives, bird watching and anthropological walks, and a river boat safari.

Luxurious Lodgings

Boutique style accommodations provide welcoming home bases for your wildlife safaris and tours. These include a series of environmentally-designed jungle lodges, built to maximize the natural jungle and sal forest surroundings with minimum interference. The lodges often feature a typical Indian village theme, complete with harmonious architecture, locally sourced natural materials, inner courtyards, indigenous plants, and flowering trees and bushes to attract birds and butterflies.

Each of the recommended lodges is located close to the entrance gates of the national parks that you’ll be visiting, making it extremely convenient when getting up for early morning safaris. Furthermore, because the jungle is all around these properties, you just might hear the alarm calls of deer signaling the presence of a nearby tiger.

Expect regal hospitality, rich local knowledge, and refined cuisine often prepared using ingredients grown within the lodge grounds. There’s even the option of staying in the Jamtara Wilderness Camp close to the Karmajhiri Gate of Pench National Park. Here, ten luxury tents are located in their own private thicket, with patios that look out to the nature outside.

If you’re searching for tigers, this dedicated wildlife sanctuary tour, complete with its different activities, is the ideal escape for nature lovers.

Welcome to Bandhavgarh

Morning pick-up from the hotel and transfer to the airport to board the flight for Jabalpur: 9I-693 (Alliance Air) Delhi/Jabalpur 0730/0945 hrs.

Upon arrival at Jabalpur, drive to Bandhavgarh National Park (approx. 4 hrs).

Set amongst the Vindhya Hills in Madhya Pradesh, Bandhavgarh consists of 168 sq. miles of Sal & a mixed forest of bamboo, grassland, and a complex of deciduous forests.

The Bandhavgarh National Park takes its name from the Bandhavgarh Fort which is located on top of the highest (800m) hill in this region. The origins of this fort are lost in the mists of time, but it is thought to be at least 2000 years old. The fort is surrounded by 32 smaller flat-topped hills forming a maze of well-forested valleys, spurs, and flatlands. This area was the private game reserve of the Maharajas of Rewa, in fact, Mohan, the ancestor of most captive white tigers, was captured from these forests by the Maharaja of Rewa. After independence, due to relaxed control, the forests of this region started deteriorating rapidly. To stop this process and preserve the forests, an area of 105 sq. km. was declared a National Park in 1965. The area of the park was increased to 448.84 sq. km. in 1982. In 1993 it was included in the Project Tiger Network.

Bandhavgarh is home to more than 25 species of mammals and more than 250 species of birds along with about 80 types of butterflies and a number of reptiles. Apart from the tiger, the mammals living in the Bandhavgarh include panthers, wolves, hyenas, wild dogs, gaur, cheetahs, sambhar, barking deer, sloth bears, and many more. Bandhavgarh has always been an excellent tiger habitat and is known for the highest density of tigers in the world. Among wildlife enthusiasts in India, it is commonly said “In most parks, you have to be lucky to see a tiger, in Bandhavgarh you have to be unlucky to not see a tiger.”

Upon arrival in Bandhavgarh, check in to Bandhavgarh Jungle Lodge.

Since we have had a travel day, we will take it easy in the evening and whoever wishes to go on a nature walk, will be accompanied by a naturalist.

Enjoy the Rural Countryside of Kanha

After a morning safari, we drive to Kanha (approx. 6 hrs drive).

Our drive takes us through the rural countryside, as well as colorful towns and villages, and stops in the sleepy town of Mandla (a sacred city for Gond tribes) where the Narmada River, second holiest to the Ganges, is the center of activity. En route you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch.

Arrive at Kanha and check in at Kanha Jungle Lodge.

Set on the Chhota Nagpur Plateau in Madhya Pradesh, Kanha National Park provides breathtaking vistas of grassy plains and strands of sal forests. This 366 sq mile preserve was set to save two endangered species, the tiger and barasingha (swamp deer), but also shelters a significant population of other rare species such leopard, sloth bear, and wild dog to name a few.

Kanha’s mixed forests are interspersed with vast meadows known as maidens. Perennial streams run through a number of such meadows, providing a source of water for the wildlife even in the hot summers. Kanha meadow, with its hundreds of chital grazing on a carpet of green grass against the backdrop of the majestic sal forest, has been aptly referred to as “the Ngorongoro of India”.

Kanha is particularly well known for its endangered swamp deer, or hard water barasingha, which populate the large open tracks of grass amidst the forests of teak and bamboo. Brought back from the brink of extinction, these handsome animals are a remarkable conservation success story for Kanha.

Sal trees and open grasslands dominate the lowlands of Kanha. These grasslands, also known as maidan, are the results of once-relocated villages under Project Tiger, a country-wide project launched in 1971 to protect tigers and their habitat. One of its initiatives was to control man-animal conflict by moving villages from core areas into the buffer so that corridors can be linked once again. Hence, these maidans are live examples of the successful re-location of villages which have now turned into grasslands allowing a successful growth of prey base for predators.

Kanha-Pench

After your morning safari, we drive to Pench (approx. 4–5 hrs).

The Satpura-Maikal region consists of seven tiger reserves and five corridors stretching through three states (Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh) in central India. The area is one of the country’s strongholds of wildlife protection and natural resource-based livelihoods.

Within this large region sits the Kanha-Pench landscape, which includes Kanha and Pench Tiger Reserves and the forested land between them in Mandla, Balaghat, and Seoni districts in Madhya Pradesh. The Kanha-Pench landscape has been the focus of extensive and diverse research conducted in the region, as well as active government support to establish it as a wildlife corridor, making it an ideal case study for other areas in the Satpura Maikal region and throughout India.

The Kanha-Pench landscape provides important ecosystem services through its hydrology and biodiversity—the parks are a watershed for the Narmada River and support endangered and vulnerable species such as tiger and hard-ground barasingha. A diversity of human communities utilize the forests in the area with varying intensity, ranging from minimal forest extraction in reserves to rapid road, agriculture, and mining development outside protected areas. The Kanha-Pench landscape thus requires active research and management to ensure sustainable livelihoods for people and protection of the wildlife alike, and offers an ideal case study of the complex environmental and social issues facing the Satpura-Maikal region, and India at large.

Upon arrival check into Jamtara Wilderness Camp.

Overnight at Jamtara.

Pench National Park

Early morning & afternoon jungle safaris into the Pench National Park, with a picnic breakfast in the jungle during the morning safari.

Located in the Central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, Pench National Park is the 19th Project Tiger Reserve and has been one of the best-kept secrets among wildlife enthusiasts who have long been acquainted with and bedazzled by its immensely varied flora and fauna.

Its undulating land and fairly open canopy of mixed forest—predominantly teak with open grassy patches—boasts a large diversity of wildlife, including leopard, tiger, jungle cat, dhole (wild dog), sloth bear, wild boar, mongoose, gaur, and the highest density of herbivores in any Indian park, including both cheetal (spotted deer) and sambar.

A local tracker and a professional guide from the camp accompany you on all your game drives. They interpret the sights and sounds of the jungle for you. For an experienced and trained guide, the jungle is like an open book, and he can make the jungle come alive by reading tell-tale signs and listening to the sounds.

Most animals, especially tigers, are creatures of habit. They have a regular patrolling pattern and they are partial to their favorite haunts. Our guides and trackers visit the park every day and keep a track of these movements by checking the spoor of the tigers and listening to the alarm calls of animals. These alarm calls advertise the presence of a tiger. A good guide who is familiar with the animals of his area can substantially increase your chances of seeing a tiger.

Stay overnight at Jamtara.

The lodge is a perfect base to explore the uncharted Bori Wildlife Sanctuary. Along with Satpura National Park and Pachmarhi Sanctuary, the Bori Wildlife Sanctuary forms part of the Satpura Tiger Reserve, forming a 2,200 sq kilometre contiguous stretch of forest teaming with classic Central Indian wildlife like, sloth bear, leopard, wild dog, tiger, gaur, giant squirrel and other mammal and bird life.

Bori Safari Lodge is located on a farmland estate neighbouring Dhapadamal village and is well located close to the park entry gate of the sanctuary. The lodge provides an immersive experience for a variety of travelers. Whether the priority is to explore the sanctuary for its wildlife or engage in a Central Indian rural experience. Game drives, walking safaris, night drives, bird watching and anthropological walks, to name a few, are the kind of engaging activities that can be done while staying at the lodge.

Our expert naturalists are well versed with the landscape and are ever ready to bring the experience alive for you. The 8 well-appointed contemporary rooms have private viewing decks overlooking green fields that attract several open country bird species. The central courtyard is the place for recreation and socializing, with the dining, lounge and library embedded in its interestingly decided structure. There is an outdoor dining and viewing space with a good view of the infinity pool and open-to-the-sky private dining seating.

The cuisine is mouth-watering, with an emphasis on local ingredients, a lot of which is grown within the lodge grounds. We practice organic farming with crop rotation and companion plantation. Biological pest control and mix cropping is encouraged; this adds to the freshness of all the food that is cooked in our kitchen. We are also inspired by the local cuisines and sometimes invite our village neighbours to come and cook for us and our guests.

The Best Tiger Safaris In India

India’s wildlife journey with our experts.

One of the greatest reasons wildlife and nature lovers are drawn to India is the wildlife safaris that explore the rich range of biodiversity (jungles, rivers, and magnificent wildlife). The main attraction of these safaris is the Royal Bengal Tiger,  an awesome creature unlike any other.

Tigers are notoriously elusive. Masters of disguise and stealth, these majestic animals are hard to spot in the wild.

Our local wildlife experts, therefore, compiled a  list of National Parks and Tiger Reserves that give you the best shot at spotting tigers out in the wild. Our list covers all regions of India.

So, if you are traveling in only one particular region of India (say the Rajasthan in North or Kerala/Karnataka in South India), we have got you covered with a whole host of options. The list has been arranged in order of probability of tiger sighting. We begin with the best tiger-spotting places.

NOTE: Please note that during the Monsoon Months (Mid-June to September/Early October) , most National Parks shut down for maintenance and fear of flash floods. So, plan your wildlife trips to India accordingly.

Summer in India (April-June) is quite intense and the mercury can rise up to 37-40°C. But that is also the best time for tiger safaris because the tigers have to stick close to water holes and reservoirs to stay hydrated. This makes spotting them easier than at other times of the year. So braving the heat is well worth the challenge.

Let our local travel experts help you make a  non-obligatory travel and completely transparent plan  that shows you the route, places to stay, transport modes and gives you an idea of the cost of the tour with a complete breakup.

Customize Your Trip

With 106 National Parks and over 500 Wildlife Sanctuaries in India, you are really spoiled for choice and figuring out where to go can get quite confusing.

(Which is why) We have narrowed the list down to 12 places where you are almost guaranteed to spot tigers out on the prowl.

Ranthambore is the perfect second fiddle act to the cultural immersions of Rajasthan (in “Pink City” Jaipur , “Venice in the East” Udaipur , “Golden City” Jaisalmer, “Blue City” Jodhpur and Pushkar ).

BANDHAVGARH

The Central Indian State of Madhya Pradesh is one of the primary destinations in the country for wildlife and tiger safaris.

Why? Because, of all the states in India, Madhya Pradesh has the highest density of tigers per square mile on the planet. And, Bandhavgarh is only one of its many Tiger Reserves—albeit the best of the lot. (We will cover the rest later).

The Bandhavgarh National Park is nestled in the Vindhya Hills of the state. The landscape is characterized by a dense deciduous forest cover, steep ridges, meandering hills and vast meadows —making it an ideal habitat for tigers and a wide range of other wild species.

This erstwhile hunting ground of the Maharaja of Rewa gives Ranthambore a run for its money for the title of the best destination for a tiger safari in India. The first white tiger to ever be hunted (hunted by the Maharaja) is now on display on the property.

This pioneering National Park was established in 1936 (the oldest in India) under the British Raj and has been a model for other national parks to emulate on account of its trend-setting wildlife conservation efforts .

Go for morning and evening safaris at Corbett National Park. Take your meals and stay overnight at the Forest Rest House. The Corbett National Park has aptly been described as the land of the roar, trumpet, and song. It paints a picture of remarkable beauty. It was this park where ‘Project Tiger’ was inaugurated in India. The rich biodiversity of this reserve is partly attributed to the variety of habitat found here. Due to the location of the reserve in the foothills of the central Himalayas, both Himalayan and peninsular flora and fauna are found in the reserve.

Morning and afternoon jeep safaris, meals, and overnight stay at the Forest Rest House inside the National Park. India’s first and finest park spread over 520 sq. km. Established initially as Hailey National Park on August 8, 1936, in honor of Sir Malcolm Hailey, the then governor of the United Provinces, the name was changed to Ramganga National Park in 1952. In 1957, it was finally named as Corbett National Park in honor and memory of the late Jim Corbett, the legendary hunter, naturalist-turned-author, and photographer who had helped in setting up the park and demarcating its boundaries.

Built-in the mid-1700s, it was conceived by the Mughal emperor Shah Jehan as a monument of love for his wife Mumtaz. Over 20,000 laborers from various parts of the world pooled their skill to create this magnificent mausoleum that has been immortalized in white Makrana marble and embellished with onyx, amethyst, lapis lazuli, turquoise, jade, crystal and several other semi-precious stones that were brought from as far as Tibet, China and the Indian Ocean. After lunch, proceed to Ranthambhore. Check-in at your safari lodge. Post lunch, head for an afternoon safari.

(Note: The Taj Mahal is closed to the public on Friday).

tiger safari at ranthambore

Day 07 & 08 : Ranthambore National Park

On both dates, take the morning and evening safaris to the Park.

The entire park is divided into 10 different zones, with good Tiger and wildlife populations in almost all zones. Ranthambore was amongst the first National Parks where Project Tiger was started. It has witnessed a varying Tiger population for the last century, however, the past decade has been a steady ride for Ranthambore. So much so that it was able to donate a few Tigers to Sariska National Park, which was bereft of Tigers due to poaching activities. The entire credit behind Ranthambore’s success and a thriving Tiger population goes to the dedicated Forest Department, and tourism. Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in the Indian State of Rajasthan comprises distinct areas with varied conservation history and virtually separated geographically, with mere narrow corridors linking them to the core, Ranthambore National Park. These are mainly Ranthambore national Park, Keladevi Sanctuary and Sawai Mansingh Sanctuary.

Ranthambore is a photographer’s paradise and a great attraction on the India golden triangle tour & tiger safari. With different kinds of lighting, angles, backdrop and any frame that you want, Ranthambore is picturesque in its own special way. The Park is also rich in avifauna, with around 300 species of birds. In fact for a keen bird watcher, Ranthambore and the surrounding area is a paradise. Some key species include: Large Cormorant, Painted Spurfowl, Sarus Crane, bronzed winged Jacana, Sandpiper, Kingfisher, Nightjar, painted Sandgrouse, Great Horned Owl and many more regular winter migrants which come from their nesting ground north of the Himalayas to Ranthambore and surrounding areas.

With an area of 400 sq. km, Ranthambore encompasses rocky hill crests which descend to open valleys between the Aravali and Vindhya ranges, dotted with water pools and fruit trees, this park gets its name from the thousand-year-old fortress, which looms above the forest. Well known for the diurnal activity of Tigers, Ranthambore is a very special and unusual area where a natural present meets a historical past. Sambar, Cheetal, Chinkara, Nilgai and Languor. The elusive Leopard and Tigers are found in this reserve with tourists standing a very good chance of seeing tigers during the safaris. Dotted across the landscape are the crumbling ruins of its past glory, be it chatris or cupolas, like palaces or old guard posts, all of which reinforce the magical and ethereal quality of this great wilderness. Overnight and meals at the Resort.

Check out after an early breakfast, post which you drive to Jaipur. A journey of 180 km will be covered in about 03 hours. Upon arrival, check-into your hotel. Eat a hearty lunch, post which you visit the highlights of Jaipur (Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal, City Palace and the Museum). This city is also known for its shopping. From precious stones to handicrafts, the culture looks richer than usual when you stroll through the ‘Jaipuri Bazaar’.

Return to the Hotel and spend the evening at leisure.

Hawa Mahal Jaipur

After breakfast, check out from the Hotel. Visit the Amer Fort, the former residence of Rajput Maharajas and their families. It is an opulent palace laid out in four levels. It is a hill fort and a World Heritage site too. Subsequently, drive for 275 km in about 05-06 hours, to arrive at New Delhi, the capital of India.

Take an early morning transfer to the domestic terminal of the New Delhi Airport to board a flight towards Raipur. On arrival, you will be met by our representative who will drive you to Kanha. This journey is a total of 210 kms, which will be covered in about four hours.

On arrival check into the resort and after a quick lunch, proceed for afternoon jeep safari. Have your dinner at the resort and stay overnight.

tiger sightings in kanha national park

Day 12 - 13 : In Kanha National Park

Wake up at 05:00 hours to take your first early morning safari to Kanha National Park. Kanha’s Sal and Bamboo forests, rolling grasslands, and meandering streams stretch over 940 sq. kms in dramatic natural splendor which form the core of the Kanha Tiger Reserve created in 1974 under Project Tiger. The park is the only habitat of the rare Hard Ground Barasingha (Cervus Duvaceli Branderi).

This is the original Kipling country of which he wrote so vividly in his Jungle Book. Packed breakfast from the Lodge is served at a designated spot and spread on the bonnet of the Safari vehicle. Enjoy your breakfast in the wilderness of Kanha. Continue your search for the elusive tiger if you have not yet seen the same, and soak in the fresh and energizing environment. Return from safari around 1130 hours. Freshen up and eat lunch.

Depart for afternoon jeep safari at Kanha National Park and return by at 1800 hours. Relax, have dinner, and stay overnight at the lodge.

After a light breakfast, tourists can depart towards Bandhavgarh National Park. This is a 280 km drive which will take you approximately 06 hours on the road. On arrival, the tourist can check-in at the lodge. Proceed for an afternoon safari in the park followed by dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Return from the morning safari and freshen up. Post a relaxed lunch, proceed for an afternoon safari into the wilderness of Kanha National Park.

bandhavgarh kanha pench tiger safari in india

Day 15 - 16 : In Bandhavgarh National Park

Experience the morning and evening safaris. Relish all meals and stay overnight at the lodge.

Bandhavgarh is mainly known for the density of its tiger population. The other wild attractions in the park include Leopards, Blue Bulls, Indian Gaur (Bison), Chausingha (Four Horned Antelopes), Spotted Deers, Sambar Deer, Wild Boar, Sloth Bears Fox, Jackals, Wild Dogs, etc. There are at least 22 mammal species and about 250 bird species in the Park. The other animals found in Bandhavgarh are Ratel, Porcupine, Small Indian Civet, Palm Squirrel, Lesser Bandicoot Rat, the Jungle Cat, and the shy Hyenas. The reptile population in the park includes Cobras, Kraits, Vipers, Rat snakes, Pythons, Monitor Lizards, and Turtles. The two primate species – the Rhesus Macaque and the Hanuman Langur inhabit Bandhavgarh.

After the morning and evening safaris at the park, savor the taste of all your meals and stay overnight at the park.

Morning game drive to the National park and after breakfast drive to Khajuraho. A total distance of about 280 km, it will take you around 06 hours on the tour drive. On arrival check into the hotel. Later city tour of Khajuraho.

Khajuraho, discovered by chance, is India’s second-biggest single tourist attraction. Khajuraho has the largest group of medieval temples that are adorned with numerous sculptures of extraordinary grace and delicacy celebrating the stylized and refined courtly accomplishments of beauty, love and creative arts. Once the religious capital of the Chandela Rajputs, the temples of the city date from 950-1050 AD. A wall with eight gates encloses the entire area and two golden palm trees flank each of them. Originally, there were over 80 temples, of which only 22 are now remarkably preserved.

The set of temples at Khajuraho celebrating Hindu religious thought in its mystifying variety of scope and inclusion stands distinguished from the rest of the Hindu temples. The temples highlight the existential ethos in religion that venerates ‘Yoga’ and ‘Bhoga’. ‘Yoga’ is union of the self with the Almighty, while ‘Bhoga’ is the path to God through physical pleasure. The temples at Khajuraho, dedicated to physical love and pleasure are a testimony to this philosophy. Declared a World Heritage Site in 1986, Khajuraho is a prominent, must-see destination and its temples are India’s unique gift to the world as they capture life in every form and mood in stone. Evening Sound and Light show at Khajuraho. Overnight at the hotel in Khajuraho.

ayan-purkaite-f1L2qHKNdhw-unsplash

Morning after breakfast visit the Eastern and Southern group of temples. The Parasvanath temple of the Eastern group is the group’s largest Jain temple. The themes depict, in charming detail, everyday activity. Also, visit the Kandariya Mahadev temple dedicated to Shiva and the Chaturbhuj temple of the Southern group.

Afternoon transfer to the airport to board the flight for Varanasi. Leave Khajuraho for Varanasi. Meeting and assistance on arrival at Varanasi airport and transfer to the hotel.

Varanasi is one of India’s most important pilgrimage sites and the holiest of holy cities for Hindus. Known also as Kashi and Benaras, Varanasi is one of the world’s oldest living cities, and has been a centre of learning and culture for well over 2000 years.

Evening : Visit the “Ghats” or bank of the Ganga River. This is a fascinating walk as you can experience the cultural ethos that guides the life of the pious. See the rituals that take place to the setting sun and the ablutions that are performed in the river. As boats float down-stream, some carrying goods, fruits and vegetables, you will see others carrying the pious who perform ceremonies along the river.

On the banks or “ghats”, you can see some absorbed in prayer and the chanting of hymns, and others engaged in commerce and yet others performing functions like hair-cutting, massaging and even cleaning ears! Walk across to the Manikarnika Ghat, where you can see cremation, performed with intense ritual – the process of sending the departed soul to the heavens. Hindus believe that the gateway to the Heavens and for the Re-incarnation of the Soul `in a better state’, is possible when life’s last journey is from Varanasi. Overnight in Varanasi.

Early morning: Take a boat ride at dawn down India’s most sacred river, The Ganges. Sunrise at the holy river is a truly tranquil and breathtaking sight with pilgrims standing waist-deep in water, praying to the rising Sun. See the famous Vishwanath temple with its spires covered with gold, dedicated to Shiva, the presiding deity of the city. Return to the hotel for Breakfast.

Also visit Sarnath a city located 13 kilometres north-east of Varanasi near the confluence of the Ganges and the Gomati rivers in Uttar Pradesh, India. The deer park in Sarnath is where Gautama Buddha first taught the Dharma, and where the Buddhist Sangha came into existence through the enlightenment of Kondanna. Singhpur, a village approximately one km away from the site, was the birthplace of Shreyansanath, the eleventh Tirthankara of Jainism, and a temple dedicated to him. Overnight in Varanasi.

Morning at your leisure to unwind and pack. Later transfer to the airport to board a flight to New Delhi at 1015 hrs. Arrive in New Delhi at 1150 hrs. Why Choose Us for Your India Nature Adventure?

  • An All-Encompassing Wildlife Itinerary...in Less-Traveled Parks This is the ultimate India experience for nature lovers. Boost your chances of seeing Bengal tigers—plus a host of other Indian wildlife—on visits to three different national parks that are home to some of India's most concentrated tiger populations. Most travelers go to Ranthambore National Park at peak season, which is heavily advertised and very crowded. We visit equally appealing Bandhavgarh National Park instead, plus Kanha and Kaziranga, which are more remote with far fewer tourists. Kanha also offers some of India's best tiger-viewing possibilities, while Kaziranga offers close encounters with rhinos and wild elephants. We also have a chance to see seven deer species and 600-plus bird species among an impressive diversity of wildlife.
  • India’s Finest Naturalist Guides Our India Expedition Leaders average more than 15 years' experience—with top-level training including resources from WWF scientists. You won’t find more knowledgeable, personable or enthusiastic guides than those who are proud to work for us. Our philosophy is simple: a nature adventure is only as good as the guide who leads it, so we provide the very best! See Expedition Leader bios with traveler comments regarding the quality of our leaders.
  • A Small Group Means More Authentic Nature Experiences Most visitors to India travel in large groups aboard tour buses, focusing on cities and crowded cultural monuments. But that’s no way to experience India’s rich nature, which is our focus. We take just 11 guests, for a lower impact in nature reserves and more personal encounters with wildlife and local people.
  • Nine Days of Wildlife-Focused Activities in Varied Habitats Spend three days each in three premier wildlife reserves as we explore contrasting Asian habitats: the dry mixed deciduous forests of central India and the moist floodplains and grasslands of the Brahmaputra basin. Morning and afternoon safari outings provide a variety of perspectives.
  • Distinctive Accommodations Enhance Your Safari When you travel with us to India, our accommodations ensure your every comfort. Environmentally sensitive ecolodges, while secluded, offer exceptional amenities. Each is selected for proximity to wildlife and the high quality of the guest experience. India’s luxury urban hotels are renowned worldwide, and the 5-star hospitality of the landmark Taj Mahal Hotel in Delhi and the Taj City Center New Town Kolkata offer welcome indulgences before and between our safari adventures.
  • Our Presence Directly Helps to Protect Tigers After years of precipitously declining tiger numbers, India is charting steady increases. Its 2022 quadrennial tiger census counted 3,682 tigers, up from 2,967 in 2018, an annual rise of 6%. Conservation groups attribute a share of the increase to responsible ecotourism. The economic value of visitors to India's tiger reserves benefits local communities, offering people an incentive to protect the wildlife they share the land with. Given that India is home to 75% of the world's remaining wild tigers, our presence here for wildlife tourism here is integral to that continued success.
  • Our Quality-Value Guarantee Ensures Your Outstanding India Wildlife Safari With Natural Habitat Adventures, you receive our exclusive quality value guarantee that promises we will meet the high expectations we set forth in our promotional materials. To our knowledge, this is the most ambitious guarantee made by any adventure travel company. Read our important promise.
  • Feel Good About Your Carbon-Neutral Journey We care deeply about our planet, as we know you do. When you travel with us, the carbon emissions from your trip are 100% offset—including your round-trip flights from home. Natural Habitat Adventures has been the world’s first carbon-neutral travel company since 2007.

How Dangerous are Tigers?

Do you like Big Animals?  We collected ideas on the Best Places to see Hippos , Elephants , Giraffes , or Rhinos .

That is why wild animals respect them. But if a trainer, for example, stumbles and loses his position of power, it can become dangerous even for him. Also, to strange tigers, he would not dare to enter the cage. By the way, in the wilderness, animals only rarely attack humans. If, for example, a shark hurts a surfer, it is only because he mistakes him for a seal. You can see this because, unlike its usual prey, it does not eat it.

Nevertheless, some people can go into a tiger or lion cage without being attacked, for example, tamers in the circus. They know their animals well and are something like the leader.

For Tiger, a human being is a big animal. And when an animal is in its enclosure, the tiger wants to hunt it because he has an innate hunting instinct.

Approximately 100 people die every year due to attacks by tigers. Probably, humans are often to blame for this themselves because they provoke the animals.

Tigers in Zoos and National Parks

The consequences for the animals are fatal: Massive damage to their health, severe behavioral disorders, and increased mortality.  This Tiger Safari or Tour guide should highlight only sustainable places to go.

  • Perform feats for which they are often trained by force,
  • Have to change venues 50 times a year on average,
  • Spend most of their time in small cages, inadequate enclosures, or in the transport wagon,
  • That essential species-specific behavior such as social contacts or movement are considerably restricted or made completely impossible,
  • that they have little variety or occupation,
  • that they are often not fed and cared for appropriately,
  • That veterinary control or care is often inadequate because there are only a few specialized veterinarians for wild animals nationwide or the circus cannot or will not afford the treatment financially,
  • that in many cases the circus operators lack the necessary expertise,
  • that there is no fixed winter quarters during the play-free period. Only about every tenth company can call a winter accommodation its own.

Nevertheless, animals of wild species can still be seen in many circus operations that travel around the world: Tigers, lions, elephants, rhinoceroses, giraffes, sea lions or monkeys – the range of animal species carried along is extensive. Wild animals suffer in the circus. They suffer massively, because:

Wild animals make exceptionally high demands on their keeping and accommodation. In a circus enterprise, responsible keeping wild animals is generally impossible.

  • It focussed at developing interoperability for conducting humanitarian ops

The 14-day bilateral tri-service exercise between India and the US, 'Tiger Triumph-24', concluded on March 30 on board a US Navy ship, an official statement said on Sunday.

The exercise that began on March 18 aimed at developing interoperability for conducting humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operations and refining standard operating procedures to enable rapid and smooth coordination between the forces of the two countries.

Personnel from both navies celebrated the festival of Holi together on March 25, as part of the cultural exchange programme, the statement added.

The Indian Army's contingent comprising one battalion group took part in the second edition of the tri-service exercise in Visakhapatnam and Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, along with the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force.

The exercise signifies the "robust strategic partnership" between the two countries and was aimed towards sharing best practices and standard operating procedures in undertaking multinational HADR operations, the statement said.

The harbour phase was conducted in Visakhapatnam from March 18-25. It included pre-sail discussions, subject-matter expert exchange, sports engagements, shipboarding drills and cross-deck visits.

The sea phase was conducted from March 26-30 and it included units of both countries undertaking maritime exercises, followed by the landing of troops at Kakinada for setting up of a joint command and control centre and a joint relief and medical camp for HADR operations, the Navy spokesperson said in a statement.

"Cross-deck helicopter operations involving UH3H, CH53 and MH60R helicopters were also undertaken between ships of the Indian Navy and the US Navy off Kakinada and Visakhapatnam," the official added.

The participating units from the Indian Navy included a landing platform dock, landing ship tanks (large) including their integral landing crafts and helicopters, guided missile frigate and long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft.

The Indian Army was represented by one Infantry Battalion Group including mechanised forces and the Indian Air Force had deployed one medium-lift aircraft, transport helicopter and the Rapid Action Medical Team (RAMT), the statement said.

The US Task Force comprised a US Navy landing platform dock including its integral landing craft air cushions and helicopters, a destroyer, maritime reconnaissance and medium-lift aircraft, and also, US Marines, it said.
