'Wow,' an impressed Tom responded.

'I saw you run,' he added, before asking Matt what year and event he participated in.

He continued: 'I said if I ever meet Tom Cruise, I'm going to ask him.. did you have any formal training? Did you have a coach? B ecause when I look at it, you're a good runner.'

Tom responded: 'I've just been an athlete my whole life, gymnastics and I'd love to sprint since I came out running.

'I was like that little kid that would  get a new pair of sneakers and hit every puddle and you're sprinting. I've had not a lot of training, but sometimes through the years I just get a little bit of coaching and I had different coaches growing up.'

He continued: 'I watch people. I study and then I try different things on my own and I'm someone who I'll watch someone and then I'll imitate them and then I read about other people's training and, and I'll train with different Olympians.'

'Well if you ever need a coach. Let me know,' Matt said.

The interview was for the new “Mission Impossible” movie, with Cruise attending the “Sunrise” show in Australia, hosted by Matt Shirvington. “Tom, I’ve gotta be honest with you,” said Shirvington. “As a kid growing up, I was a sprinter and went to the Olympic games.”

“Did you? Wow,” interrupted Cruise. He got up from his chair and shook his hand. “What year?” Shirvington revealed that he’d participated in the Sydney games on the year 2000. “I saw you run,” said Cruise, still in shock.

The interview proceeds, with Shirvington praising Cruise’s form and showing a clip of himself running in the Olympics and Cruise running in the latest “Mission Impossible” film. “You’re a great runner,” said Cruise. “I’m a good runner.”

Cruise then explains that while he hasn’t had much formal training in terms of running, he’s been an athlete all of his life, which has helped him over the course of his acting career. “I came out running,” said Cruise, making the hosts laugh. “I was that little kid that gets a new pair of sneakers and has to hit every puddle in their sprint.”

Tom Cruise’s “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning - Part 1” premieres this July 12. Over the past week, Cruise has been promoting his work and encouraging fans to stop by theaters to support all of the new summer releases. “This summer is full of amazing movies to see in theaters,” wrote Cruise on Twitter. “Congratulations, Harrison Ford, on 40 years of Indy and one of the most iconic characters in history. Tom Cruise impressed by 'Sunrise' host Matt Shirvington's career as a pro sprinter: 'I saw you run'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Tom Cruise was highly impressed when 'Sunrise' host Matt Shirvington disclosed that he had competed as a professional sprinter during a recent interview. The action star, 61, was taken aback by the revelation shared by the 44-year-old Shirvington, who interviewed Cruise ahead of the premiere of his new film, 'Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One'.

"As a kid growing up, I was a sprinter. I went to the Olympic Games as a sprinter," Shirvington revealed. "Wow," responded Cruise, clearly impressed by the revelation. "I saw you run," he added after finding out what year and event he participated in.

'If I ever meet Tom Cruise...'

"I went to the Sydney Games in the year 2000 and [competed] in the 100 meters," Shirvington answered. He then said, "I said if I ever meet Tom Cruise, I'm going to ask him. Did you have any formal training? Did you have a coach? Because when I look at it, you're a good runner."

'I've been an athlete my whole life'

Cruise responded, "I've just been an athlete my whole life, gymnastics and I'd love to sprint since I came out running. I was like that little kid that would get a new pair of sneakers and hit every puddle and you're sprinting. I've had not a lot of training, but sometimes through the years I just get a little bit of coaching and I had different coaches growing up."

Tom Cruise then explained the secret behind his athleticism, saying, "I watch people. "Well if you ever need a coach. Let me know," Shirvington said.

Cruise was left thoroughly impressed when producers played a video during the interview featuring Shirvington competing in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games wearing a tight Lycra outfit. The clip in the video was juxtaposed with a clip of him running in his new movie. This interview took place after the recent release of the official trailer for the upcoming 'Mission: Impossible' installment. 'Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One' marks Cruise's seventh film in the 'MI' franchise and is scheduled to release in theaters on July 12th.

Former sprinter Matt Shirvington  replaced the high-paced life on the track for the cut and thrust of live TV broadcasting. The Olympian and world champs medallist tells us about presenting the Fox Sports Super Saturday show in his native Australia.

He may jokingly describe himself as “ Gary Lineker without the career” but Matt Shirvington has in more in common with the ex-English footballer turned broadcaster than he is prepared to admit, having transformed himself from Aussie sprint icon into super-smooth TV anchor.

Each week of the NRL  season, the 2001 world 4x100m bronze medallist is beamed into millions of Australian homes to present three live games of rugby league for the hugely popular Super Saturday show.

It is Shirvo’s job to bring the action to life and prompt the best out of his panel of experts around him for the entirety of the broadcasts, which can last up to a gruelling nine hours.

An accident waiting to happen

His TV career started came about by luck rather than design. An untimely bout of glandular fever ruled him out of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games when “out of the blue” he was offered the chance present on science show Beyond Tomorrow .

He travelled the world with the show, successfully presenting 45 episodes. After retiring from athletics in 2008, he was asked to come join Fox Sports to help out on their coverage of the Beijing and later the London Olympics. He also spent some time in the newsroom before being given the role as Super Saturday anchor in 2013.

Yet Shirvington, who at the time had a successful fitness and elite coaching business, insists a career in TV was never something he thought of pursuing.

“Even after I finished athletics, I didn’t think TV was a pathway for me,” he explains. “But I’d obviously done enough in Beyond Tomorrow to earmark me to do something for Fox Sports. Over time TV presented greater opportunities and I have grabbed it with both hands.”

Unknown territories

Not that the father-of-two believes his journey into live TV broadcasting has been easy. He describes his first season as Super Saturday anchor as “woeful” and “clumsy.” It has been a far from easy switch from track titan to broadcasting big shot.

“The hardest thing has been motivating the brain in the same way I motivated the body when training for athletics,” he explains frankly. “For someone who was on the Australian team for 12 years, I didn’t harness my brain power regularly enough and it was a really hard transition.”

Yet applying the same principles he learned from Tom Tellez, coach to nine-time Olympic champion Carl Lewis, that the more starts you do the better you get, he believes over time with more practise his broadcasting skills have improved.

Know your numbers

Rugby League – a hugely popular sport in Australia – he insists is “a numbers and a stats game”.

Shirvington, a rugby league player in his youth, spends hours researching – what he terms as “putting money in the bank” – in the same way he prepared for his 100m competitive season by pounding out the training reps. As well all know it's not the size of your stats but how you use them; the 36-year-old believes he has become smarter by using the stats more sparingly.

“When I started presenting I felt all the info I had needed to be regurgitated, and that’s where I fell down,” he says. “What I needed to do was to hone and sharpen those stats. Now I read and look at key stats and I use that info.”

Practice, practice, practice

As his preparation has improved, Shirvington believes he has grown into his role as a live TV anchor. But he has found one area of working in live TV very different to life on the track.

“As an athlete every microscopic detail is dwelled upon and I was accustomed to constant feedback,” he explains. “As a TV presenter you don’t get that level of feedback unless you make a significant mistake. The input is not as great and in some ways I have become my own coach.”

Yet the former Australian 100m champion is insistent life as a broadcaster is “very tough”, and he has little doubt that life competing as an athlete at an Olympic Games is far easier.

“As an athlete I would spend the first week of a Games just chilling and focusing on training, but as most of the work had already been done it was not too challenging. By comparison, as a broadcaster, working 20-hour days for 20 days straight at an Olympics by the end I was shattered. I was gone.”

Shirvo’s top three

Which player in rugby league player would make the best sprinter?

Two in the game really stand out. One is James Roberts , the winger for the Gold Coast Titans. He has great acceleration and his straight line speed is one of the best.

The other would be Fiji-born Melbourne Storm winger Marika Koroibete . He’s naturally fast, with a big upper body and has those high sprinter calves. He has the barrel chest of Linford Christie [1992 Olympic 100m champion] and the legs of Donovan Bailey [1996 Olympic 100m champion].

Which track and field would make the best convert to rugby league?

Mark Lewis-Francis [2004 Olympic 4x100m champion] would make a good winger and would represent a pretty hairy confrontation because he is solidly built and would be hard to tackle. I also know Walter Dix [2008 Olympic 100m and 200m bronze medallist] has run a blistering 40m time and he would go very well.

If you could pick any one athlete with the potential to be a quality broadcaster, who would it be and why?

Greg Rutherford . I do a bit of media training and I’ve often gravitated to some of his interviews. He seems very comfortable in his own skin.

'Surreal': Sunrise host Matt 'Shirvo' Shirvington heads to Summer Bay after landing role on Channel Seven's Home and Away

Former Olympian-turned-Sunrise host Matt Shirvington has made his way to Summer Bay after landing a role on one of Australia's most beloved TV shows.

Lauren Evans

Sunrise host Matt Shirvington has joined the Home and Away cast after landing a role on the popular Australian TV show.

The former Olympian became a co-host on the breakfast program earlier this year, taking over for veteran TV presenter David Koch who finished his Sunrise career after 20 years in May.

Just months after his debut on Sunrise, Shirvington has now made his way to Summer Bay - a fictional coastal town - to star on Channel Seven's Home and Away.

He has reportedly already filmed his scenes for the iconic Australian show.

The Seven Network announced the news on Wednesday morning on Home and Away's official Instagram page.

The post featured a photo of Shirvington shooting a scene with long-time actor Ray Meagher, who plays Alf Stewart, at Palm Beach on Sydney's northern beaches.

"Look who’s coming to Summer Bay in 2024," the post was captioned.

It's not known what Shirvington's role will be on the show, but 7News.com.au understands the father-of-three "will be playing himself".

The scenes are expected to air next year.

The Sunrise host said is was "surreal" to be in Summer Bay as a long time viewer of the show.

“As a kid who grew up watching Home and Away, it was all a bit surreal to be in Summer Bay with Alf Stewart!” Shirvington told 7 News.

“What a fun experience. The entire cast and crew were so welcoming and generous with acting tips and advice for this novice.

“I think this will be one of those things my kids are never going to let me live down!”

It's not the first time a Sunrise star has landed a role on the beloved soap.

In 2021, Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac appeared on the show as himself, acting as a VIP Guest at a Summer Bay event.

At the time, he shared a video of his scene on Instagram which featured actors Georgie Parker (Roo Stewart), Emily Symons (Marilyn Chambers), Ada Nicodemou (Leah Patterson), Lynne McGranger (Irene Roberts), and James Stewart (Justin Morgan) at the fictional Salt restaurant.

"Here it is. The deluxe collectors edition box set of all 47 words I said on  @homeandaway," Mac captioned the post, before joking about a cameo David Koch had done on the show in 2007.

"Not that it’s a competition, but it’s 45 more words than Kochie’s 2007 cameo," Mac wrote.

Why Tom Cruise's Today Show Interview With Matt Lauer Got Heated

Tom Cruise in at Mission Impossible premeire

Tom Cruise rose to fame in the 1980s with his iconic roles in movies including "Risky Business," "Taps," "Top Gun," "Cocktail," "All the Right Moves," "Rain Man," "The Color of Money," and "Born on the Fourth of July," per IMDb , and that's just the 1980s. He kicked off the 1990s with "Days of Thunder," "The Firm," and "A Few Good Men." Cruise just might have the most exciting body of work of any actor out there.

For many years, we knew Cruise was a member of the Church of Scientology, but he was low-key about it. And then 2005 happened. He got together with Katie Holmes, did that whole jumping on the couch interview on Oprah, per ABC, to proclaim his great love for the former "Dawson's Creek" star and things continued to get weirder with him from that point onward.

Cruise has certainly kept everyone guessing since then, and he has become even more open about his beliefs as they relate to Scientology. He's opened his mouth and inserted his foot firmly in it, opining on things that are none of his business. This is pretty much why Tom Cruise 's "Today" show interview with Matt Lauer got heated. Keep reading to find out what happened.

Tom Cruise and Matt Lauer battled it out over Brooke Shields

In 2005, the same year as the couch-jumping episode, Tom Cruise criticized Brooke Shields on "Access Hollywood" for using antidepressants to help her get through her postpartum depression (via The Hollywood Reporter ). Now, it was absolutely none of Cruise's business because: 1. He is not Shields, 2. He is not a doctor, and 3. He does not have a uterus ... but he gave his opinion anyway. Cruise claimed, "When you talk about postpartum, you can take people today, women, and what you do is you use vitamins. You can use vitamins to help a woman through those things," per Hollywood.com. Shields replied that Tom should "let women decide what treatment is best."

So, then when Cruise sat down with Matt Lauer to promote "War of the Worlds" and the host asked him about the Shields incident, Cruise went off, calling psychiatry a "pseudoscience." He claimed, "There is no such thing as a chemical imbalance." "So postpartum depression to you is ... psychological gobbledygook?" Lauer said. Cruise objected before Lauer continued, "But a little bit what you're saying, Tom, is you're saying you want people [like Shields] to do well — but you want them to do well by taking the road that you approve of."

Cruise paused for a moment before replying, "No. No, I'm not." Later, Cruise expressed regret for his attack on Shields, per Hollywood.com. The full interview can be seen on YouTube .

4 November 2022

MATT SHIRVINGTON, HOST : Well, new figures out this morning show Australia's cyberspace is coming under increasing attack. The latest Cyber Threat Report shows 76,000 cybercrimes were logged last financial year, an increase of nearly 13 per cent from the year before. That's equivalent to one cybercrime every seven minutes. The average cost per crime was around $40,000 for small businesses, $80,000 for medium and $62,000 for large organisations.

Joining me now is Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, good morning to you. This goes back to the last financial year, but why are we seeing Optus, Medibank in recent weeks, these attacks increasing?

DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER RICHARD MARLES : Well, I think, as you said in the introduction, what we've seen is an increase in cyber incidents - cybercrime - even before the well publicised events with both Optus and Medibank. And there's a few reasons for this; we're living more of our lives online, I think that's been accelerated through the pandemic in the figures that you just quoted. What's really clear is that cybercrime is now big business. There's a lot of pickpockets out there in cyberspace and sometimes this is happening on a grand scale. But we're also seeing more state actors engaged. That's happening very much in the open in the war in Ukraine, between Russia and Ukraine, where Russia is having malware attacks against Ukraine. But they're not the only ones. And in the murky grey world that the cyberspace is, a lot of this is interacting with each other, but the common denominator is we've got to be doing a lot more to protect ourselves. That's at the level of government, it's the level of big business, it's at the level of individuals.

SHIRVINGTON : Is it time to give customers more control back over their own data? You've introduced a Bill to increase penalties for companies caught up in the data breaches. But what about changing other laws, like the requirement for organisations to hold on to customer data for several years?

DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER : Well, I think we need to be looking at our regulatory environment and, as you said, we increased the penalties in this space, which will make a difference. I think we've just got to be hardening our defences here. The Australian Signals Directorate, which is the main government agency, is actually an agency in defence. That's how we see this. And we're spending a lot more on ASD, but we're working more with large businesses. But for individuals as well, for people at home, people have to be vigilant. It's not a matter of panicking here, but it is a matter of being really vigilant, making sure that you're updated with your software, making sure that you have two factor authentication on your apps, on the data that you keep, making sure you're not clicking on links where you don't know where they're from. All of these are really simple measures that people can take and make a huge difference. And I think people have got to understand that with this increase in cybercrime and cyber threat, it's really important that people are vigilant.

SHIRVINGTON : Yeah, understand that trying to control it at the source is difficult. But the anxiety for people - new emails, text messages coming in on a daily basis, it's so hard to filter through and to figure out what is legit and what isn't. Deputy Prime Minister, thanks for your time this morning.

DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER : Thanks, Matt.

Sunrise and Today stars all in tears over devastating story

“I’ll try and be professional”: One devastating story has absolutely overwhelmed Sunrise and Today show stars live on air this morning.

One devastating story has seen presenters across both Seven and Nine’s prime time breakfast programs break down in tears this morning.

Both Today and Sunrise were covering the release of a two-page handwritten letter written by South Australia’s Police Commissioner Grant Stevens and his wife, Emma, following the death of their teenage son, Charlie, during schoolies celebrations.

The 18-year-old was killed after an alleged hit-and-run on the south coast on Friday night and died the following day in hospital from an irreversible brain injury, making him the 101st person to lose their life on the state’s roads this year.

Charlie and Grant Stevens. Picture: Supplied

Nine’s Adelaide correspondent, Tom Rehn, admitted from the outset that he would struggle to be “professional” in delivering his report, as his own stepson was “one of Charlie’s best friends.”

“It’s really difficult to read … I’ll endeavour to get through it as best I can. It’s really tough,” he told Today hosts Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo.

Today reporter Tom Rehn openly wept. Picture: Today

Rehn openly wept and his voice broke as he read the lengthy, heartbreaking statement, which paid tribute to the real, much-loved person behind the tragic road toll statistic.

“I am writing this sitting in a bedroom with dirty clothes on the floor, an unmade bed, six drinking glasses lined up on the bedside table, an empty KFC box next to the glasses, wardrobe doors left open and a row of skateboards leaning on the wall – it is a mess and it’s perfect. This is where 101 lived,” the parents wrote in the letter, referring to their son by the sobering road death statistic he’s become, and delivered by a clearly overwhelmed Rehn.

The devastating letter reduced several TV presenters to tears.

The heartbroken parents described the “last of five” as different.

“Cheeky, intense and funny – a loveable ratbag from the moment he could talk. He was as frustrating as hell, but he was also the kid who would look after others, befriend the lonely, and help those who were struggling,” they wrote.

“Intensity shone through as 101 committed to each new passion — Lego, BBL, scooters, footy, cricket, basketball, surfing, downhilling, Fortnight and his skateboard — it was all or nothing and it was always all.

“... 101 had a circle of friends the rest of us could only dream about. He loved his mates and they loved him. His friends parents liked having 101 in their homes. He was mates with his brother’s mates.”

Over at Sunrise, it was a similarly devastating reaction to that on Nine when the same letter was read out on air.

Nat Barr and Matt Shirvington also became overwhelmed. Picture: Sunrise

Host Nat Barr was seen openly crying as the camera returned to the desk following Adelaide reporter Jade Robran’s live cross.

With Barr unable to speak, her co-host Matt “Shirvo” Shirvington was forced to take the reins – before breaking down in tears himself.

“I’ve got to be honest with you, it’s extremely hard to get through without shedding a tear, whether you knew Charlie or you didn’t know him, ”a visibly upset Shirvington admitted.

“But the understanding of losing a teenage child, Nat and I are in that position with teenage kids, it’s extremely difficult … It is something that is touching so many Australians at the moment.”

Interview with Matt Shirvington, Sunrise, Channel 7

MATT SHIRVINGTON: Thanks, Nat. Australia's energy grid is set for a major boost in the coming months, with the government announcing a significant new investment in our renewable energy sources. It's promising a supercharged scheme to ensure our system remains stable and the lights are kept on. It comes amid growing concerns that heat waves this summer could push electricity demand to decade highs, increasing the chance of major shortfalls and blackouts. For more, I'm joined by Energy and Climate Change Minister, Chris Bowen. Good morning to you, Minister. Will Aussies be given reliable electricity over the summer? No blackouts?

CHRIS BOWEN: Good morning. Shirvo, good to chat. Well, everything we're doing is about more reliable energy, whether it's getting ready for a long, hot summer, which is a result of climate change in El Nino and the Federal Government and the states, and AEMO working very hard. To make sure our grid is prepared. Just as Murray Watt, the Emergency Services Minister, is working with states and territories to make sure we're as prepared as we can be for bushfires. And what we're announcing today is our longer term plan. Coal fired power stations are increasingly unreliable. They're closing at various rates and we need to get more energy on quicker to replace them before they go out. Not after they go out, but before they go out. And so what we're announcing today is really a big policy to improve the reliability and security of our energy grid, as well as reducing emissions.

MATT SHIRVINGTON: How much will be invested into the development of more renewables?

CHRIS BOWEN: So, what we're doing is running an auction, and when you run an auction, if you're selling a house, you don't announce how much you expect people to bid. And if you're bidding for a house, you don't announce how much you're going to bid. We want to get the best deal for tax payers. So, we're saying to renewable energy investors, come and bid into this auction. Now, yesterday, Penny Sharpe, the NSW Minister, and I announced the results of the first NSW auction under the pilot scheme. And that's delivering more than a gigawatt of power in a very competitive race. And that's more than the previous government delivered in their entire nine years just in one auction. So, we're really getting on with the job of making the grid more reliable, because over the last decade, we had four gigawatts of dispatchable power leave the grid, but only 1 gigawatt come on, we got a lot of catching up to do.

MATT SHIRVINGTON: So, the target is over 80% renewables by 2030. When will bills start going down?

CHRIS BOWEN: Well, the more renewables you have into the system, the cheaper energy will be, because the sun doesn't send a bill and the wind also doesn't send an invoice. At the moment, we're hovering just under 40%, around 40% renewable energy. As it increases closer to 82, the renewable price will be setting the price more and more. Wholesale prices now are way down on what they were last year. I know people don't pay wholesale prices, but they do feed through to retail prices over the next year or so. So, that's going to put more downward pressure as we get more renewables into the system over time.

MATT SHIRVINGTON: Oh, that's what we need. That's what we want. Minister, thank you.

CHRIS BOWEN: We certainly do. Shirvo.

Sunrise host matt shirvington warns viewers not to be duped by fake sam kerr interview.

Headshot of Bethany Hiatt

TV presenter Matt Shirvington has warned viewers to avoid a financial scam based on a fake interview between him and Sam Kerr that has already cheated some out of thousands of dollars.

Scammers have been exploiting the name and image of Matildas captain Sam Kerr in a phony interview trying to convince people to sign up to a fake online trading platform.

The fake interview circulating online pretends to be based on a Sunrise segment where host Shirvington argues with Kerr about a bogus claim that she made money by investing on the platform.

“You don’t believe me? Give me 375 dollars and I’ll make a million with it in 3–4 months!” the fake article claimed the soccer star said.

Sunrise’s consumer correspondent Shaun White revealed on the program on Monday that Seven had received multiple emails from concerned viewers who had responded to the scam.

“Some people have lost $10,000,” he said. “Others are asking whether it is a scam or whether it’s real. Just to be clear — it is not real.”

Shirvington implored viewers: “Do not click on the links — that is the only advice I can give you.

“As many times as you ask the social media companies to report it, to pull it down, it pops up somewhere else. The only way is to protect yourself.

If it looks fake ... or if there’s not a phone number you can call or if it’s not someone you can go to and speak to at the bank — don’t do it, you’ll lose your money.”

The scam is another variation on the increasingly common fake news articles or “deepfake” scams that use images of celebrities to persuade people to part with their money.

White said the premise of such scams was to use familiar faces to set up trust, then once that rapport was established, they would ask for around $250.

“They’ll start a small investment to build that trust, then they might get you to download a third party platform, and then once that’s happened you’re in a fair bit of trouble because they’ve got access to you,” he said.

“They might even show you fake profits, and then that’s when they’ve really got you and will try to milk through small investments continually.

“And why it’s such a cruel scam is that people want to believe that it’s real, so they’ll keep going bit by bit.”

The fake interview circulating online pretends to be based on a Sunrise segment where host Shirvington argues with Kerr about a bogus claim that she made money by investing on the platform.

Images of mining magnate Gina Rinehart and former Sunrise host David Koch have also been used in cryptocurrency scams advertised online.

The latest fake article was being used to advertise fraudulent trading platform Immediate Cipro 2.0, while a previous near-identical article also used Kerr’s name to push another bogus platform called Quantum AI.

The National Anti-Scam Centre last month revealed online investment trading platform scams based on celebrities and fake news articles had cost Australians $8 million last year.

It said known fake trading platforms included Quantum AI, Immediate Edge, Immediate Connect, Immediate X3, and Quantum Trade Wave.

Australian Competition and Consumer Commission deputy chair Catriona Lowe urged people to do their research before investing money.

“Scammers are creating fake news articles and deepfake videos to convince people that celebrities and well-known public figures are making huge sums of money using online investment trading platforms, when in fact it is a scam,” she said.

Interview with Matt Shirvington, Sunrise, Channel 7

Subjects: flood emergency, global economy, Washington DC meetings, the Budget

MATT SHIRVINGTON:

Economic ministers and bank governors from around the world are meeting in Washington this week. Now, let’s bring in the national Treasurer in Jim Chalmers. Thanks so much for spending a little bit of time with us. Before we get to the global economy, can I just get your thoughts on the evolving situation in Victoria, the floods are having a huge impact on residents there. What are your thoughts?

JIM CHALMERS:

Good morning Matt, unfortunately those are devastating scenes out of Victoria and over the border. I know it’s going to be heartbreaking for a lot of Australians today. I know from my own neighbourhood, what it's like when so many homes go underwater. Our hearts goes out to everybody affected. I know people will be there for each other and the Government will be there for them as well.

SHIRVINGTON:

A dire situation continues to grow. A dire situation in regards to the global economy You are in the United States at the moment. What are you hearing from your counterparts and how is Australia and the conditions threatening Australia and the economy here, compared to overseas?

There is no use beating around the bush Matt, it's going to be a bumpy ride in the global economy over the next six or nine months at least ‑ that's the strong expectation from all the colleagues from around the world I been holding discussions with here in Washington DC. The world is treading a pretty narrow and perilous path when it comes to this inflation problem we've all got, you've got the war in Ukraine, you’ve got some other issues in our supply chains and for all those reasons there is a lot of concern about the global economy.

The good news for Australia is we are in better nick than most of our peers but we need to be much better still, and that's because the best defence against this pretty severe deterioration in the global economy is a good, strong responsible Budget and that's what I will be handing down in two Tuesdays time.

Thank you so much for your time, national Treasurer. We will catch up with you soon.

He went on to make the sound of a cricket, impressing Atwell with how accurate his insect impression was.

Shirvo then asked the actress to share how she makes her “voice stuck inside” sound effect.

“I promised myself I would ask you this because I am a stickler for sound effects,” Shirvo said during the interview.

“So as a kid, it’s all I really did.

“And I know that you have a voice stuck inside. Can you please, please teach me how to do it?”

Atwell took Shirvo through the steps to perfecting the tricky voice.

“Oh my God, you’re gonna get it straight away. The first thing you wanna do is you’re gonna puff out your cheeks like a blowfish,” she said.

After Shrivo followed her instruction, Atwell asked: “There you go. Can you hum as you do that?”

Once he mastered that step, she continued: “So now what you want to do is just really articulate, to try and say something and really over articulate your target ... inside your mouth.”

Shirvo then mastered the impression, leading Atwell to voice her excitement.

“Nailed it, nailed it, nailed it,” she exclaimed.

Sunrise host Nat Barr was impressed with his skills: “Yeah, I did not expect that.”
