Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell Spotted at Wimbledon Together

Talk about a racquet. Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell, rumored to be dating, attended the Wimbledon finals on Saturday. They hit the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London (and were met by eager photographers) before watching Australia’s Ashleigh Barty defeat the Czech Republic’s Karolina Pliskova in three sets in the Women’s Singles trophy.

Cruise and Atwell are co-starring in the forthcoming seventh entry in the Mission: Impossible series. Chatter about the two being an item began in December .

The (unconfirmed) couple was joined by another M:I7 co-star, Pom Klementieff . Atwell and Klementieff are both alumni of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The former played Peggy Carter on the Captain America side of things, and Klementieff appeared as the empath Mantis, raised by Ego the Living Planet, in the Guardians of the Galaxy films.

Cruise made a second Wimbledon appearance on Sunday with co-star Esai Morales .

Mission: Impossible 7 was slated to start shooting in February 2020 in Italy but was shut down due to the pandemic. Production started again in autumn, then stopped when some crew members tested positive for Covid. In December, audio leaked from the set at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the U.K. in which Cruise took certain members of the production to task for not taking Covid protocols seriously. Production was halted yet again in June due to another positive Covid test.

Tom Cruise is handsome, talented, charismatic, fabulously rich and, at 59, can still perform super-human stunts for the latest installment of his “Mission: Impossible” series.

So, why wouldn’t any woman, including his “Mission: Impossible 7” co-star Hayley Atwell, be absolutely thrilled to be dating him? Cruise and the British actor, 39, fanned months-long dating rumors when they attended the Wimbledon women’s singles final Saturday.

“Tom and Hayley hit it off from day one,” a source told The Sun in December, which first reported on rumors that the “Top Gun” megastar and Atwell were romantically involved.

Cruise’s three ex-wives might have things to say on the pros and cons of being drawn into his orbit. Of course, it’s unlikely that they actually will — publicly, at least — given the likelihood that non-disclosure agreements were part of their divorce settlements.

If nothing else, the next woman who becomes Cruise’s real-life love interest needs to be prepared for his level of fame and reported idiosyncrasies. Among other things Cruise is known to be “intense.” He demonstrated as much when he famously jumped on Oprah Winfrey’s couch in 2005 to proclaim his love for Katie Holmes before she became wife no. 3.

At the time, Holmes was the latest in a line of famous actresses to catch Cruise’s eye. In fact, Cruise has only been publicly attached to women in the industry, going back to Melissa Gilbert of “Little House on the Prairie” fame, who was 16 or 17 at the time they dated in the early 1980s. He had just moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in movies and was still known by his birth name, Tom Mapother.

“I did not have sex with him,” Gilbert said on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” in 2017 . “We made out, but, honestly, there was no sex. He was a good kisser. But, you know, he was, like, a struggling, starving actor. I actually bought him his first set of dishes.”

Cruise went on one date with Heather Locklear next, spent two years in a relationship with Rebecca De Mornay, his co-star in his 1983 breakthrough film “Risky Business,” and had a brief romance with, yes, Cher, Hollywood Life reported . He then married and divorced Mimi Rogers and married and divorced Oscar winner Nicole Kidman, with whom he adopted two children. Cruise also dated Oscar winner Penelope Cruz before he met and proclaimed his mad love for Holmes.

According to multiple reports, Cruise’s adherence to the Church of Scientology has long guided his romantic choices, ever since Rogers introduced him to the controversial organization while they were married in the late 1980s. Cruise is now said to be one of the most powerful people in the organization.

A detailed 2012 Vanity Fair report described how Cruise divorced Kidman in 2001 and broke up with Cruz in 2004 because they didn’t sufficiently embrace the organization’s teachings. Vanity Fair also reported that the church staged “an elaborate auditioning process” to find Cruise’s next girlfriend and potential wife. He had a brief romance with actress and fellow Scientologist Nazanin Boniadi, during which he “overwhelmed her with the intensity of his affection.”

Responding to Vanity Fair’s report in 2012, a spokesperson for Scientology denied the allegations about “auditioning” women and denied that the church or its leader, David Miscavige, exercised any involvement in the actor’s personal life.

When Cruise’s relationship with Boniadi ended, he moved on to Holmes.  “Like Princess Diana with Prince Charles, Katie Holmes had a mad schoolgirl crush on the older Tom Cruise,” when she was a teenager, Vanity Fair reported. Holmes was 26, some 16 years Cruise’s junior when they began dating.

Cruise and Holmes married in a fairytale wedding in an Italian castle in 2006, after they already had become parents to daughter Suri. But the church and its leader David Miscavige were said to be like “a third person” in the marriage, Vanity Fair said.

Holmes reportedly became concerned about the influence Scientology might have over how Suri was raised, and surprised Cruise by filing for divorce in 2012. Because of a prenuptial agreement negotiated by Holmes’ attorney father, she was able to quickly resolve her divorce from Cruise and secure custody of Suri, Vanity Fair added.

When asked about the divorce, Cruise opened up, just a little, on a German talk show , saying he was blindsided.  “I did not expect that. To be 50 and to have experiences and to think you have a grip on everything, and then it hits you — this is it, what life can do to you. Life is a tragicomedy. You need to have a sense of humor.”

Over the years, Cruise’s ex-wives have said little about their time with him. Rogers famously told Playboy in 1993 that Cruise was “seriously thinking of becoming a monk. … he thought he had to be celibate to maintain the purity of his instrument.”

Kidman has never revealed anything about their divorce, allegations in the Vanity Fair report nor a 2015 HBO documentary, “Going Clear,” that said Scientology helped orchestrate their breakup and trained her children to view her as a “suppressive person,” or enemy of the church. But Kidman has talked about some good times with Cruise, telling Vanity Fair in 2002: “He basically swept me off my feet. I fell madly, passionately in love. And as happens when you fall in love, my whole plan in terms of what I wanted for my life — I was like, ‘Forget it. This is it.’ I was consumed by it, willingly.”

At least one of Cruise’s ex-girlfriends has had other kind things to say about Cruise. Cher put Cruise in her “Top 5” lovers list, she told Andy Cohen in 2013: “l I had just the greatest lovers ever. Not a long list. It’s just a good list.”

Cher told the Daily Mail in 2018 she first met Cruise at Madonna and Sean Penn’s wedding in Malibu in 1985, met up again at an event at the White House when Reagan was still in office, then hooked up sometime later.

Cher said she and Cruise are still friends: “Though I don’t get what he does, that whole Scientology thing,” Cher said. “I can’t understand it so I just… don’t.”

Since Cruise and Holmes divorced, he had not been publicly linked with anyone until Atwell, who may be best known for playing Peggy Carter in the “Captain America” movies. The Sun first reported in December that the co-stars began dating while filming “Mission: Impossible 7.”

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, production has been arduous and protracted. The movie was supposed to start shooting in February 2020 in Italy, but production was shut down due to the pandemic.

Production began again in the autumn, then stopped when some crew members tested positive for COVID. In December, audio leaked from the Warner Bros. Studios set in the U.K. revealed some more of Cruise’s famous intensity. On the recording, Cruise was heard ranting against members of the crew for not taking COVID-19 protocols seriously enough.

“If I see you do it again, you’re (expletive) gone,” Cruise shouted in the audio, according to the Sun. “And if anyone in this crew does it, that’s it — and you too and you too. And you, don’t you ever f—king do it again.”

Production on the film was halted yet again in June, reportedly due to someone testing positive for COVID. But Cruise and Atwell may have bonded amid the pandemic challenges. A source told The Sun that “lockdown, and all the difficulties that came with it, brought them even closer and they’ve become fairly inseparable.”

After jumping on the couch on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2005 as a way to confess his love for Katie Holmes , it seemed like Tom Cruise had finally met "the one." Tom's public proclamations for Katie made it all the more surprising when the couple announced their divorce in 2012 after just six years of marriage.

In the years since Tom and Katie split, the press has been curious about Tom's love life, especially because of his tendency to go all-out with romantic gestures. While it's understandable that the Top Gun: Maverick actor might keep his love life more private, he has been linked to multiple actresses since his divorce.

So, who is Tom Cruise dating? Read on to find his current relationship status.

Tom Cruise and his 'Mission Impossible 7' co-star Hayley Atwell broke up a second time in June 2022.

According to one source's conversation with The Sun tabloid in December 2020, Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell immediately "hit it off from day one" when they worked together. If Hayley seems familiar, it's because she played Peggy Carter in the Captain America flicks.

The pair dated until September 2021, when OK! Magazine reported they split after just a year of dating. However, the magazine also noted that as of January 2022, Tom had a new woman in his life. The new woman might not have been "new" after all, because Daily Mail reports that Tom and Hayley briefly reconciled in early 2022 before splitting again in June.

A source told Daily Mail, "Unfortunately, it hasn’t worked out for them. They have now decided they are better as friends." The news comes after Hayley publicly supported her then-boyfriend by attending the Top Gun: Maverick premiere in London. The same source also adds that public scrutiny had put unnecessary pressure on their relationship.

"They get on really well, and have fantastic chemistry, which is why they decided to quietly give the relationship another try earlier this year," the source explained. "What was working behind closed doors didn’t work out so well when it was made public, and the fanfare around them as a couple exploded again."

On TikTok, a DeepFake of Tom Cruise and socialite Paris Hilton has gone viral.

User @DeepTomCruise , whose TikTok page only consists of Tom Cruise DeepFake videos, recently posted a TikTok where the actor preparing for a night out with socialite Paris Hilton. Although Paris was recently married to Carter Reum , that didn't stop the rumors from hoodwinked fans wondering if the Risky Business star had coupled up with the hotel heiress.

The video, which has over 10,000 likes so far, pictures (fake) Tom and Paris Hilton preparing for a night out. In the video, Fake Tom urges Paris not to be late, and she replies, "We should always run fashionably late ... it's your night." Fake Tom says, "We're really going to wow the world," and Paris remarks, "Do you think people are really going to believe we're a couple?"

If the intent of the video is to grab media attention, it's certainly working well! Previously, @deeptomcruise and Paris Hilton teamed up in February 2022 for a TikTok about cereal , in which Paris says her signature catchphrase: "That's hot." However, due to Paris' marriage and the fact @deeptomcruise isn't actually Tom Cruise, it's probably safe to say the pair aren't dating IRL.

It sounds like the mystery of Tom's romantic life is just that: still a mystery! In the meantime, fans will have to enjoy his work on camera until he reveals more details of his life off-camera.

Whether you love him for his work in notable blockbusters like "Top Gun" and "Mission Impossible" or are intrigued by his captivating persona, there is no arguing that Tom Cruise is a Hollywood icon. Over the years, the actor has equally become known for his accomplishments on film as he has for his controversial viewpoints and various romances. Since starting his acting career, Cruise has been linked to several leading ladies, including Penélope Cruz and Nazanin Boniadi.

Cruise's most notable romances are with the women he had married, however. The "A Few Good Men" actor has been married three times to actors Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman, and Katie Holmes. Most recently, Cruise has garnered attention for his relationship with his " Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One " costar Hayley Atwell, with whom he allegedly had an on-again, off-again fling from 2020 to 2022, as reported by The Sun .

Rebecca De Mornay

Cruise's on-screen chemistry with his "Risky Business" costar was not just for the cameras. Though De Mornay was in a relationship with actor Harry Dean Stanton, she and Cruise started an intense affair during the production of the 1983 film. The pair's "Risky Business" costar, Curtis Armstrong, revealed in his memoir, "Revenge of the Nerd," that the dynamic on set was awkward at points.

"I suspect that most of Harry Dean's great qualities were lost on Tom, who, I think, was beginning to regard him as a guest overstaying his welcome. It must have been a little galling to have your heart set on f*cking your costar, and just when you think you're starting to make headway, her significant other comes popping up out of a trap like a lanky, amiable Banquo's ghost," Armstrong said (via The Hollywood Reporter ).

De Mornay and Cruise continued to have a relationship until around 1985. In a 2018 interview with Celebrity Page , De Mornay opened up about her romance with the "Top Gun" star, telling the outlet, "I will say that I thought he was very annoying when we first started [filming] . . . He came to grow on me because we wound up together for two and a half years after that film."

Though short-lived, one of Cruise's most notable romances was with none other than music icon Cher. The two connected for the first time at the 1985 wedding of Madonna and Sean Penn, though they got to know one another better at a White House event, per People . "Then a bunch of people who were dyslexic were invited to the White House, and Tom and I are both dyslexic . . . there was definitely a connection," she explained to the outlet.

Though it is unknown exactly how long Cruise and Cher's rendezvous lasted, the "Believe" singer did tell Andy Cohen on " Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen " in 2013 that their romance "was pretty hot and heavy for a little minute," and that Cruise was easily in her top five list of lovers.

Mimi Rogers

Cruise met his first wife in 1986. The two have differing accounts of how they initially connected, with Rogers claiming that a mutual friend set them up, and Cruise alleging that Rogers was dating someone else when they met, per Parade . Regardless of how the pair crossed paths, their relationship took off pretty fast, and a year after they met, they tied the knot in a private ceremony in May 1987, according to The Daily Beast .

Rogers, a second-generation Scientologist, is likely one of the greatest influences that introduced Cruise to the controversial belief system that he has since adopted so passionately. Throughout their marriage, details of the relationship between Cruise and Rogers were constantly speculated, coinciding with the actor's growing fame following films like "Cocktail" and "Rain Man." The couple quietly split in 1989 and announced their split in January 1990, as reported by Entertainment Weekly .

Though Rogers and Cruise have an amicable relationship today, the two didn't always see eye to eye after their divorce. In a 1995 interview with People , Rogers spoke harshly about her marriage to Cruise, telling the outlet, "You cease to be an individual. . . . No matter what the article is, it's 'Tom Cruise's wife. . . .' Waiting for the moment when I don't have to talk about that [blankety-blank] name anymore."

Nicole Kidman

Around the time Cruise separated from Rogers, he met Kidman in 1989 while filming the movie "Days of Thunder." The two hit it off right away, with Cruise later revealing (via Newsweek ), "My first reaction to meeting Nic was pure lust . . . It was totally physical." The pair wed just months after meeting in December 1990 in a private ceremony held in Colorado, according to Entertainment Weekly .

After starring in the 1992 film "Far and Away," the couple adopted a baby girl , Bella Kidman Cruise, shortly after she was born on Dec. 22, 1992, per People. Bella's adoption came after Kidman had a pregnancy loss, which Kidman opened up about in a 2007 interview with Vanity Fair. "From the minute Tom and I were married, I wanted to have babies . . . And we lost a baby early on, so that was really very traumatic. And that's when we would adopt [our daughter] Bella," she said (via People ). Three years later, Kidman and Cruise adopted their second child, a boy named Connor Kidman Cruise, after his birth on Jan. 17, 1995.

For the majority of the '90s, the two were one of Hollywood's greatest power couples. They would collaborate on screen again in 1999 and star as lovers in Stanley Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut" together, but their marriage deteriorated not long after. In February 2001, the couple announced their separation. The divorce filing cited "difficulties inherent in divergent careers" as the cause for the relationship's end, per Entertainment Weekly , though many speculated the split to be partially attributed to the pair's differences in religious beliefs. "Scientology had NOTHING to do with this," Pat Kingsley, the couple's former representative, assured at the time.

Penélope Cruz

Cruise met Cruz on the set of "Vanilla Sky" in 2000, and the pair started dating in 2001, per People . While there was media speculation that the couple were expecting a child and had plans on tying the knot, nothing of the sort happened, and their relationship was mainly private.

By March 2004, Cruise and Cruz called it quits, with a source revealing to People, "The relationship just ran its course and they decided not to be girlfriend and boyfriend anymore. Through most of the relationship they were both shooting movies in separate parts of the world."

Nazanin Boniadi

Though Cruise's relationship with Boniadi was short-lived, it was later revealed to be under unusual circumstances. According to a 2012 Vanity Fair story, Boniadi was one of several actors that were misled by Scientologist leaders to audition for a "special project" which required a makeover, training, and confidentiality agreements. Allegedly, the project was actually a quest from leaders in the organization to find Cruise another girlfriend after his split from Kidman.

In 2004, Boniadi was chosen to be Cruise's girlfriend, and within a month, the couple were living together. The relationship came to an end, however, after a meeting with Cruise and the Church of Scientology leader David Miscavige. Per Business Insider , the event that ended their brief fling involved a misunderstanding between Boniadi and Miscavige. "Overcome by a severe headache, Nazanin had a hard time understanding Miscavige, which infuriated him. The next day, Cruise — inches from her face — pounded on the table and screamed at her for insulting the head of the church," said Alex Gibney in the HBO documentary "Going Clear."

"Two weeks later, church henchman Tommy Davis delivered the news to Boniadi that her relationship with Cruise was over," the documentary revealed.

Katie Holmes

Following his breakup from Boniadi, Cruise met Holmes in April 2005 and started dating the "Dawson's Creek" star that same month, according to The Hollywood Reporter . Just one month after their romance started, Cruise notoriously professed his love for Holmes in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in May 2005, which many still associate with the actor even years after it took place. In June 2005, Holmes converted from Catholicism to the Church of Scientology, and the pair got engaged that same month.

By October 2005, Holmes and Cruise announced that they were expecting their first child together, and on April 18, 2006, they welcomed their daughter, Suri, into the world, per Today . The pair, dubbed "TomKat," eventually tied the knot in November 2006 and went on to garner intense media attention throughout the duration of the marriage.

Despite appearing strong on the outside, the couple's relationship was dwindling behind the scenes. In June 2012, Holmes filed for divorce from Cruise, with her rep telling outlets at the time (via Us Weekly ), "This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest." A rep for Cruise on the other hand issued a separate statement, which read, "Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy."

Hayley Atwell

Cruise met Atwell on the set of "Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One" in 2020. Though the pair have neither confirmed nor denied being in a relationship, there have been fierce rumors about a romance between the costars. According to The Sun , the two began dating shortly after meeting on set, but kept their relationship under wraps. From that point on, they had an on-again, off-again relationship, and ultimately called it quits in June 2022, with a source close to the two telling The Sun, "They get on really well, and have fantastic chemistry, which is why they decided to quietly give the relationship another try earlier this year. But what was working behind closed doors didn't work out so well when it was made public, and the fanfare around them as a couple exploded again . . . Perhaps no one in hollywood has a dating and marital history that has caused so much speculation.

A roller-coaster romantic history almost comes with the territory in Hollywood.

You're always meeting people, you never know who's around the corner, you're working with someone and the chemistry is off the charts... the temptations are endless. "I don't even get into that game," the actor told Today host  Matt Lauer back in 2006 when he and Katie Holmes burst onto the scene as a couple. Katie, in fact, was sitting right off to the side while Cruise gave the interview, and the screen would occasionally flash back to the  Dawson's Creek  star and her apparent glee at being in that position.

"I'm just living my life, Matt. It's something—I'm just living my life—I'm doing the best that I can, and doing it in the way I feel is right," Cruise said, explaining his previous burst of emotion on Oprah Winfrey 's couch. "I like hearing good news. I like hearing if something good happens to you, it's nice." Regarding rumors that TomKat was a PR stunt, he concluded, "There's always cynics. There always has been and always will be...I have never worried, Matt, about what other people think and what other people say."

Lucky for movie stars, they can hire people to do that for them.

So here's what's been said—by Tom Cruise and by other people—over the years about his romantic life.

Cruise's career took off  almost  as fast as his love life when he got to Hollywood.

The  Little House on the Prairie  star and future SAG president met Cruise when "he was a struggling starving actor, and I was working. I actually bought him his first set of dishes." She told Andy Cohen on  Watch What Happens Live! in 2014 that they did not have sex (she was "16, maybe, or 17" at the time), but "we made out"—and he was a good kisser.

The actress scored her breakout role in  Dynasty right around the time Cruise made his big-screen debut in  Taps— and naturally, the fresh-faced stars went on a date in the early '80s after meeting at an audition.

Locklear, a Los Angeles native, later described it to Chelsea Handler as more of a favor she did for the new guy in town. The kid didn't lack for confidence, though. "You know in  Risky Business where he does that dance in his underwear, and he does the splits?" Heather recalled. "We were dancing at a club and he went into that, he started doing the splits. And I, you—" She feigned looking startled. "You just kinda stand there and don't know what to do. Do you dance around him? So I was like, 'I'll just sit down and you can [do you thing].'"

More impressed by his moves was his  Risky Business  co-star, whom he started dating after the racy romance, with its iconic dance scene, hit theaters in August 1983. In October of that year, De Mornay told  People that she didn't have a boyfriend, but one of the reasons she liked Cruise so much was, "I think he is an innocent and that makes me feel good."

Sean Penn , meanwhile, recalled to Rolling Stone   going out with Cruise not long after  Risky Business came out and witnessing the actor tell a woman who tried to chat him up at the club, "'I have a girlfriend I'm in  love with!'"

"He really is a pure person," De Mornay said when they were together, also per RS . "There's something earnest and virtuous about him that's quite rare. There's definitely something different about kids who come from broken homes. They have this sort of  searching  quality, because you're searching for love and affection, if you've been robbed of a substantial amount of time with your parents. I think that's true of Tom."

They maintained their relationship long distance while he was in London filming the action fantasy  Legend , but broke up not long after he returned to the U.S. to shoot  Top Gun . 

"Relationships are hard," Cruise told Rolling Stone in 1986. "You have to know when you're going to be in a different place from someone else, you have to have the strength to separate. People are more prone to stay together for the security, which is something in my life that I have really not done, in relationships or even in business. If something's not working, you've got to face it and move on."

Asked about settling down, he said, "I don't know if I could get married. Right now, in my present state of mind, I don't believe so. I need a lot of space for myself and my work. You can't say, 'Okay, let's keep that thought—I'll be back to you in a couple of months when I finish this.' But I do enjoy being in a relationship."

They would've been a hard couple to miss, such as when they ran into each other in 2002 at the 1st Annual Entertainment Industry Foundation "Love Rocks" Concert, but it wasn't until around 2008 that the entertainment icon opened up about her mid-'80s fling with Cruise.

"I was crazy about him," Cher told Oprah Winfrey . Reminiscent of what De Mornay said about him being an innocent, the singer recalled, "He was shy. He said he felt like such a boob in school and nobody talked to him. We went on a date once for dinner in a New York restaurant and the waitress was from his old school. He told me she never talked to him back in school, but now he was recognized he got all her attention. It could have been a great big romance because I was crazy for him."

On  Watch What Happens Live! in 2013, Cher said Cruise definitely made her "top five" list of lovers in life. "It was a long, long time ago and neither one of us ever talked about it and I don't know why," she told Andy Cohen. "When we were together he was such a private person. He always has been until lately. He didn't mention it and I didn't mention it. I loved him though, he was amazing."

According to Cruise, he met the Gung Ho  actress in 1985 at a dinner party while he was developing Top Gun . She was dating a friend of his at the time, but ultimately they got together. Though he didn't think he was ready for marriage in the summer of 1986, they quietly tied the knot on May 9, 1987, in upstate New York. Emilio Estevez was Cruise's best man. His mother, Mary Lee South, told  People her new daughter-in-law was "top notch."

Having previously been married to Scientology counselor Jim Rogers, Mimi's the one who's said to have turned Cruise on to the religion. "She took him under her wing,"  Tom Cruise Unauthorized author Wensley Clarkson told  Entertainment Weekly in 2000. (Rogers, meanwhile, has since cut ties with Scientology.)

They announced they were divorcing in January 1990. 

"Is that the story, that I was bored with that child and threw him over, chewed him up and spat him out?" Rogers fired back at Playboy in 1993 when asked why the marriage ended. "Well, here's the real story. Tom was seriously thinking of becoming a monk. At least for that period of time, it looked as though marriage wouldn't fit into his overall spiritual need. And he thought he had to be celibate to maintain the purity of his instrument." She added pointedly, "My instrument needed tuning."

As for the other rumors being flung about, that he had become too big a star, or their six-year age difference proved too impenetrable, a then 45-year-old Rogers told the U.K. Telegraph   in 2001, "The stardom wasn't really a problem. What did annoy me, though, was the age thing. Some of the tabloids brought it up all the time, and exaggerated the gap between Tom and me. Every six months they seemed to add a year to my age. If Tom and I were still married, the tabloids would probably have me in my sixties by now."

After meeting during casting of the racing drama  Days of Thunder , he proposed as soon as his divorce from Mimi Rogers was finalized, and the Australian actress married Cruise on Christmas Eve in 1990.

"He basically swept me off my feet," Kidman recalled to Vanity Fair  in 2002 . "I fell madly, passionately in love. And as happens when you fall in love, my whole plan in terms of what I wanted for my life—I was like, 'Forget it. This  is it.' I was consumed by it, willingly. And I was desperate to have a baby with him. I didn't care if we were married. That's what I wish I'd done."

They adopted two children,  Isabella  and Connor , and starred in two more films together, the period epic  Far and Away and the erotic thriller  Eyes Wide Shut , which they admitted later was an extremely intense shoot, made all the more devastating by director Stanley Kubrick 's death before the film was finished. They also weathered the dooziest of rumors, from one that they were both gay and the marriage was a cover to a report that they needed a coach for the sex scenes in  Eyes Wide Shut (the couple successfully sued over both stories).

"Our marriage is stronger because of it. And our friendship is deeper," Cruise said about their final film experience together. 

"All I can say is that I hope we are together when we are 80," Kidman told Talk in 2000. "I can't say we will be, but I will be so devastated if we are not."

So consider her blindsided by the timing when Cruise filed for divorce months later. "Citing the difficulties inherent in diverging careers which constantly kept them apart, they concluded that an amicable separation seemed best for both of them at this time," their longtime rep said on Feb. 5, 2001, in announcing the split.

Even then, Kidman's lack of attachment to Scientology and her reluctance to raise their kids that way was named as a major factor in their split (her rep told People  religion had "nothing to do with this"). Connor and Isabella were still Scientologists as of at least 2013.

Asked why their marriage ended, Cruise told  Vanity Fair in October 2001, "She knows why, and I know why. She's the mother of my children, and I wish her well. And I think that you just move on. And I don't say that lightly. I don't say that with anything. Things happen in life, and you do everything you can, and in every possible way, and there's a point at which you just sometimes have to face the brutal reality."

After meeting on the set of 2001's trippy  Vanilla Sky , the Spanish actress dated Cruise for three years, though they were apart a majority of the time for work.

They made their public debut as a couple at the August 2001 premiere of Cruz's film  Captain Corelli's Mandolin . "He came and shared it with me," she said on Good Morning America soon after. "It was special for me that he wanted to share it with me that way."

Cruise was married when they were shooting  Vanilla Sky , but Cruz insisted they didn't get together until later. "There's nothing to hide and it's a good thing," she said. (She would say years later , "I've never fallen in love with someone I'm working with. It's always been afterwards. If something becomes friendship, then maybe months later it becomes something else, but you can never know. It's always a mystery. You can't plan those things.")

"I'm very, very happy with my relationship," Cruise had told  People in the summer of 2003, also denying that they were engaged. The relationship wasn't without its legal drama, however, as Cruz ended up securing damages and a retraction  from an Australian tabloid in June 2003 over a story claiming her impending marriage to Tom was postponed because she had an affair. 

They split up in January 2004 and alerted the world to that fact two months later. "The relationship just ran its course and they decided not to be girlfriend and boyfriend anymore," a source told People   at the time. Cruz's rep denied that Scientology played a role, saying that the actress, while not a Scientologist, had found the church courses she took "beneficial."

The  Modern Family star is said to have briefly dated Cruise during a period of time after he broke up with Cruz when the actor really wanted a potential partner who could embrace Scientology (those said to be involved with Cruise's dating process have denied that was the case).

When an interviewer from the Daily Beast noted in 2011 that he hadn't heard too much about what it was like to date Cruise, Vergara reportedly laughed hysterically and exclaimed, "Let's keep it that way! I don't want to talk about that!"

Like Vergara, the  Avengers star reportedly wasn't into Cruise's scene. They were never photographed out on a date together, but looked perfectly cordial at an Ambassadors for Humanity gala honoring Bill Clinton and benefiting the Shoah Foundation in February 2005.

According to a 2012 report in Vanity Fair (the particulars of which were denied by the Church of Scientology), the Iranian-born actress, who would go on to roles in  How I Met Your Mother ,  Scandal ,  Homeland  and more, quietly dated Cruise between October 2004 and January 2005 before it became obvious to the actor and the church that she wasn't right for him.

Per  VF , for their first date (a group outing), Cruise arranged for a private tour of the Empire State Building, followed by dinner at Nobu and ice skating at the rink at Rockefeller Center, which was closed to the public for the occasion.

Boniadi was already a Scientologist when she was allegedly recruited to date Cruise, that being a huge part of the appeal, but she later left the church. (The church called the mission to hook Boniadi and Cruise up a "phantom project that never existed.")

"I'd rather not talk about that. It's something that I'm not happy to..." Boniadi told The New York Post in 2013 , trailing off when asked about Cruise. "Like I said, I have so many positive things happening in my life, it's a shame not to talk about that."

After a whirlwind courtship (but over a decade after the  Dawson's Creek star crushed on him as a kid) punctuated by Cruise's epic declaration of love for Holmes on Oprah Winfrey 's couch in May 2005, the couple welcomed daughter Suri in April 2006. Annie Leibovitz  shot Suri's public debut, the October 2006 cover of  Vanity Fair . TomKat tied the knot at a castle in Italy on Nov. 18, 2006.

"People are going to do what they're going to do," Cruise told MTV News in June 2005, talking about the public reaction to his reaction to being in love. "Here's the thing, you can't think about it in terms of what people are going to do or say. It's 'I want to share my life with this woman. This woman is exceptional, she's special, she's extraordinary and I have great respect for her.' It's someone who's saying 'I've got nothing to hide, I'm happy.' I'm happy, man!"

Asked about the possibility of acting together, he added, "I'd love to work with her, she's a great actress. I will work with her someday, no question."

Holmes filed for divorce in June 2012 and, thanks to their reportedly incredibly detailed prenup drafted by Martin Holmes , Katie's divorce attorney father, all was settled within two weeks. Again, religion was rumored to be the big sticking point, and a source told  Us Weekly that Holmes had reached out to Nicole Kidman for support during the marriage's final days.

Aside from Cruise's extremely public outings with Suri to places like Disney World, Holmes was the one who was most often spotted with Suri. In December 2013, Cruise accepted a settlement  in the $50 million defamation claim he brought against Bauer Media over a  Life & Style story that claimed he had more or less abandoned his daughter.

"I don't want that moment in my life to define me, to be who I am," Holmes told People in October 2014, referring to her marriage to Cruise. "I don't want that to be what I'm known as. I was an actor before, an actor during and an actor now."

Hot on the heels of his divorce from Katie Holmes, Cruise was rumored to be dating his  Knight & Day co-star. 

The rumor wasn't true , but the pair did get along swimmingly on the set of the humorous action thriller.

Asked how she spent her 40th birthday (in a deposition for his suit against Bauer Media, Cruise had denied attending her b-day party in London in August 2012, though there were pictures of them taken that night), Diaz later explained on  The Graham Norton Show , "I happened to bump into Penélope Cruz, Javier [ Bardem ], Tom and his son in a hotel and joined them for dinner. At midnight I said, 'I'm 40!' so we took pictures and then said, 'Goodnight, see you later, blah, blah, blah,' and I haven't seen him since.

"But the next thing I know, apparently I am dating him and it's full on and he is coming after me!"

A rumor caught fire in 2014 that these two were dating, and their new romance was all anyone on the set of  Orange Is the New Black could talk about. That turned out to be vehemently untrue , with reps on both sides denying it.

"It's just so funny that, when people don't know, they just make stuff up, [like] apparently I'm dating Tom Cruise right now," Prepon told She Knows . "And apparently he doesn't want me doing [ OITNB ] because I portray a lesbian and I'm a Scientologist."

She added, "This is false. Where are they even getting this stuff? It's unbelievable to me."

In October 2016,  Us Weekly reported that Cruise had had a girlfriend for several months, an unnamed British woman whom the actor was said to be serious about. "Very normal and pretty" was how a source described her.

As of March 2017, Cruise was reportedly smitten with the British actress, who plays Princess Margaret in  The Crown  and will be in Mission: Impossible 6 with Cruise.   She didn't help matters when she told the  Times  of London that she was seeing somebody under the radar.

But E! News heard that there was no truth to this rumor, either—though audiences can analyze the chemistry for themselves when the movie comes out in July 2018.

Meanwhile, though the ins and outs of his personal life remain a closely guarded secret, he has plenty of public engagements to get ready for.

In addition to  M:I6 , he's got Doug Liman 's CIA thriller American Made coming out, he's attached to star in the sci-fi space flick  Luna Park  and Cruise just revealed that the need for speed  is great enough— Top Gun 2 is happening .

Moreover, the  The Mummy— which opens in theaters June 9—was recently branded part of Universal's Dark Universe featuring the studio's various classic monster properties, an indication of more films to come.

And when Tom Cruise has more good news to share, we have a feeling we'll hear about it.

The mission impossible actor has been married three times, and has recently sparked romance rumors with hayley atwell and shakira.

Though Tom Cruise has certainly had his share of high-profile and intensely publicized romantic relationships , since his 2012 divorce from Katie Holmes , it has been over a decade since the star's love life has garnered attention in a significant way.

The Mission Impossible actor has not been publicly romantically linked to anyone – a fellow celebrity, normie, or otherwise – in a major way since his divorce 15 years ago. Though that seemed to be possibly changing after he was rumored to be dating Shakira , and his co-star Hayley Atwell , both rumors have since been shut down, particularly as the latter announced their engagement to music producer Ned Wolfgang Kelly in April 2023.

During an interview with The Independent , Hayley maintained she sees her Mission Impossible co-star as an "uncle" figure, as she questioned: "Why are things being assumed or projected onto me about my relationship with my work colleague and boss?"

The two tied the knot in November of the same year with a Scientologist ceremony at Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy. They had welcomed their first and only daughter, Suri, earlier that year, on the anniversary of their first date , April 18, 2006.

They announced their divorce in June of 2012, which is widely thought to have been a shock to Tom , reportedly after Katie, with the help of her lawyer dad, privately orchestrated a plan to leave him.

Out of the spotlight. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes ' marriage — and subsequent split — has been a major topic of conversation over the years. The couple first sparked dating speculation after they were seen on a trip to Europe together in 2005. Following a whirlwind romance, Cruise and Holmes got engaged later that year before welcoming their daughter in 2006. During their courtship, the Abandon star confirmed that she was going to convert to Scientology. "You know, it's really exciting," Holmes told W Magazine in 2005 about the controversial religion. "I just started auditing and I'm taking some courses and I really like it. I feel like it's really helping." The Dawson's Creek alum exchanged vows with the Top Gun: Maverick star in 2006, shortly after they expanded their family. Cruise and Holmes shocked fans when they announced their separation in June 2012 after five years of marriage. At the time, a source exclusively told Us Weekly that the Batman Begins actress was "very happy" that she could "move on and finally live her life." Less than one year later, the Oscar nominee noted in an interview that that he "didn't expect" his ex to file for divorce in 2012. Holmes, for her part, opened up about making plans to return to her acting career. "Even early on, when I was a young actor and all of a sudden people knew who I was, my dad told me, 'Don't let that change how you live your life.' Nearly a decade after ending her marriage, Holmes opened up about the challenges of being a single mother. "That time was intense," she recalled to InStyle in April 2020. "It was a lot of attention, and I had a little child on top of it. [We] had some funny moments out and about in public. ... I feel like I can be more creative and have more time, have my voice." Tom Cruise is apparently taking his relationship with Elsina Khayrova to the next level. According to various reports, the actor has made their relationship official , which could signal they’ll make their red carpet debut sometime soon.

“It’s well known within Elsina’s circle that she and Tom are now an item,” a source told Daily Mail. “They’ve grown very close over the past few weeks but take a lot of care not to be photographed together because they want to maintain their privacy.”

Tom Cruise and Mimi Rogers's Relationship Timeline: A Look Back

ICYMI — or are just having a hard time remembering — Oscar-nominated actor Tom Cruise and actress Mimi Rogers dated in Cruise's  post-Cher  and pre- Nicole Kidman  days. The pair met in 1985 — although how, exactly, is up for debate — and married in 1987, marking a first for Cruise and the second marriage for Rogers. The pair later finalized their divorce in 1990.

During the course of their relationship, the  Risky Business  star and  The Rapture  starlet spoke highly of each other when giving interviews and confidently stepped out in public as each other's arm candy (not everyone can pull off T-shirts tucked into Bermuda shorts with ease). However, as with any couple, Cruise and Rogers had their ups and downs. Throw in the pressures of Hollywood, and it would eventually prove all too much for the actors.

Here's a look back at Tom Cruise and Mimi Rogers's relationship.

1985: Tom Cruise and Mimi Rogers first meet

In 1986, Cruise, then 23,  told  Rolling Stone  he'd met Rogers, then 29, "at a dinner party about a year ago" when he was developing the original  Top Gun .  However, the courtship wasn't  quite  as simple as a young Cruise introducing himself and asking to date Rogers. The actor said Rogers "was dating a friend" at the time. 

"I thought she was extremely bright," Cruise recalled to the publication.

Rogers remembered things differently,  telling  Sun Sentinel   that she and Cruise had been introduced by mutual friends. 

"I wasn't seeing anybody, he wasn't seeing anybody, and they thought, 'These people should be going out with somebody — let's see if they want to go out with each other,'" Rogers told the newspaper. "And we said, 'Aw, what the heck. OK.'"

May 9, 1987: Tom Cruise and Mimi Rogers get married

The idea of marriage was introduced quickly, but given the magnitude of Cruise's stardom following the success of the blockbuster Top Gun  , the couple referred to their wedding by an ominous title: "The Project." Rogers, a second-generation Scientologist herself, is believed to have been one of Cruise's first links to the polarizing belief system.

In May 1987, Cruise and Rogers executed their, uh, project and tied the knot,  according to  People .  The Mighty Ducks  actor Emilio Estevez was Cruise's best man at the "very small, intimate and beautiful" event. Interestingly, nearly one year before Cruise and Rogers wed, he told  Rolling Stone,  "I don't know if I could get married."

Rogers spoke fondly of Cruise in their years together. "There's a lot of contentment and security (in marriage)," she  told  Chicago Tribune  in 1988. "I highly recommend it.''

December 9, 1989: Tom Cruise files for divorce from Mimi Rogers

According to Andrew Morton's  Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography , the actor filed for divorce on Dec. 9, 1989. Production on  Days of Thunder  (starring Cruise and his future wife, Kidman) began just two days later. In 1995, Cruise  described to  Vanity Fair  his reaction to meeting Kidman as "instant lust." 

Morton cited a statement made by Cruise and Rogers to address the announcement of their split in January 1990: "While there have been positive aspects to our marriage, there were some issues which could not be resolved even after working on them for a period of time." 

Ironically, just days before news of Cruise and Rogers's split broke, the  Rain Man  star insisted that (despite tabloid conjecture) he "couldn't imagine being without" his then-wife. "Since I've been with her, it's opened me up a lot," he  revealed to  Rolling Stone  in 1990. "I think it's helped me be a better actor. We live a lot of life together. We share everything. That's the best thing about life. Otherwise, you go through it pretty sad and lonely and angry." At the risk of laying it on too thick, Cruise added, "I care about my wife more than anything in the world. She's my best friend. I just really like being with her, you know? I love her."

February 1990: Tom Cruise and Mimi Rogers finalize divorce

After finalizing his divorce from Rogers in February 1990, Cruise and Kidman reportedly wed in December. The actor  told Barbara Walters  in 1992 that he and his ex hadn't spoken "in a couple of years," though he did "wish her well." 

In 1993, the  Bosch  star spoke to  Playboy ,  per E! Online , and made some interesting comments about her ex. "Here's the real story," she reportedly told the publication. "Tom was seriously thinking of becoming a monk. At least for that period of time, it looked as though marriage wouldn't fit into his overall spiritual need. And he thought he had to be celibate to maintain the purity of his instrument." She also mentioned that her own instrument "needed tuning." 

Rogers was candid about the trouble of being married to one of the most famous men in the world. 

"You cease to be an individual," she  told  People  in 1995. "No matter what the article is, it's 'Tom Cruise's wife ...'" Rogers added that she was waiting for the moment when she didn't "have to talk about that [blankety-blank] name anymore."

Though, in 2001, she  explained to  The Telegraph  that "stardom wasn't really a problem" in their marriage. "What did annoy me was the age thing," she added. "Every six months, [the press] seemed to add another year to my age. If we were still married, the press would have me in my 60s by now."

Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis' relationship soared

There have been plenty of instances where actors were totally repulsed by their co-stars , but Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis did not have that problem. Instead, their friendship soared on-set and on film, and McGillis would be the first to admit it. The actor has gushed about her "Top Gun" co-star on several occasions. In her interview with Movie Talk, she shared, "I think Tom is terrific. He's the sweetest guy. He is very genuine and sincere and respectful. And I just loved working with Tom. I think he is wonderful."

Cruise was even a part of some of McGillis' highlights on the set, especially when filming got frustrating. Kelly McGillis wasn't asked to be in Top Gun: Maverick

You are truly a rarity if you are one of the few individuals who has not seen "Top Gun: Maverick." The sequel to the original 1986 film, "Top Gun," was a smash hit , despite it missing an important character. Fans of the original movie will notice that Kelly McGillis did not return as Tom Cruise's love interest in the sequel. Instead, she was replaced by Jennifer Connelly, who played Penny Benjamin and was briefly mentioned in the first film.

According to Insider , the director of the sequel, Joseph Kosinski, never considered bringing back McGillis. He shared, "Those weren't stories that we were throwing around. I didn't want every storyline to always be looking backwards. It was important to introduce some new characters." But, McGillis isn't convinced. The "Top Gun" actor revealed to Entertainment Tonight  that she thinks she wasn't asked to return because of her looks. She said, "I'm old and I'm fat, and I look age-appropriate for what my age is. And that is not what that whole scene is about."

Not only did McGillis lose her iconic role in the sequel, but she also lost her friendship with Cruise. When asked if she keeps in touch with anyone from the film, she revealed, "Movies are odd things. I don't really keep in touch with anybody. Inside Tom Cruise's Relationship With His Daughter Suri Now

Cruise is also a dad to three children. He shares his oldest, Isabella and Connor, with ex-wife Nicole Kidman , and his youngest, Suri , with ex-wife Katie Holmes. While it's clear that Cruise has a great relationship with Isabella and Connor, and both children are active members of his Scientology faith (per The U.S. Sun ), it's less clear what kind of relationship — if any — that he has with Suri. In fact, when Holmes and Cruise divorced, he affirmed that Holmes' desire to keep Suri out of the Scientology faith was a factor in their split (per HuffPost ).

Tom Cruise was so excited about Katie's pregnancy that he bought a sonogram machine

Like a lot of expectant parents, Tom Cruise was ecstatic about the impending arrival of his third child, Suri Cruise. In fact, he was so excited about Suri that he reportedly bought his own ultrasound machine so that he could see her every day. Cruise told Barbara Walters about the purchase, which can cost up to $200,000 (per  BBC News ). He seemed to understand that the purchase was on the lavish end, as he reassured people that the machine would be donated to a hospital after Katie Holmes gave birth.

However, not everyone thought the act was a great idea. In fact, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine issued a statement condemning the act, noting that the buy bordered on abusing the equipment. President Lennard Greenbaum, MD, said, in part, that "Tom Cruise's recent purchase of an ultrasound machine for personal use at home is both inappropriate and in violation of FDA rules addressing the sale of medical equipment."

Tom Cruise described his daughter Suri's birth as 'spiritual'

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes welcomed Suri Cruise on April 18, 2006 . From all accounts, and especially from Cruise's, Suri's arrival into the world was fairly extraordinary. In fact, only a few days after her birth, Cruise described the experience to "20/20" and still seemed in awe of everything he witnessed (via ABC News ). He said, "It was everything that we wanted it to be. ... It was spiritual. It was powerful. It was indescribable."

Plenty of outlets shared news of Suri's birth, as public interest in the newborn was quite high. CBS News  noted that Suri weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces, and clocked in at 20 inches long. A representative for Cruise and Holmes also shared information about her name, noting that Suri has Hebrew origins and can mean "princess," as well as Persian roots, which could give her name the meaning "red rose." 

Notably, Cruise and Holmes were also able to leave their home to head to the hospital in private, which was quite a feat considering the vast amount of attention they were receiving at the time.

Tom Cruise and Suri Cruise appeared to have a good relationship until 2012

In 2004, a then-engaged Katie Holmes admitted to Seventeen that she had once fantasized about marrying Tom Cruise (per HuffPost ). Fast-forward a few years, and Holmes found herself walking away from the very marriage she once said she wanted.

From all appearances, Tom Cruise and daughter Suri had a solid parent-child relationship up until 2012. That was the year that Katie Holmes filed for divorce in a move that apparently surprised Cruise. While speaking to German TV network ProSieben (via CBS News ), he admitted that he didn't see the divorce coming at all, saying, "I didn't expect it." He added, "Life is a tragicomedy. You need to have a sense of humor."

It seems that after he recovered from the shock of his wife of six years wanting a divorce, he bounced back pretty quickly. InStyle noted that the two were able to work through their divorce pretty quickly, with a settlement being reached after only 11 days. 

He admitted that Katie Holmes left him to 'protect' Suri from Scientology

While Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have been pretty quiet when it comes for the exact hows and whys of their divorce, when pushed, Cruise definitely let something slip: One of big reasons Holmes said she wanted a divorce was reportedly to "protect" their daughter, Suri, from Cruise's religion, Scientology . The admission came out during his deposition during a libel lawsuit he filed against a tabloid. When asked if Holmes felt she had to protect Suri by leaving the relationship, as reported by  HuffPost , he first replied that the question was "offensive" and that "there is no need to protect my daughter from my religion," before saying, "Did she say that? That was one of the assertions, yes."

On top of that, Cruise also admitted that Suri was no longer a practicing member of the religion (per TMZ ). While HuffPost asserts this means Suri has now been deemed a "suppressive person" in the eyes of the Church of Scientology, there have been no public statements made to that effect. Notably, "suppressive" people are often, if not always, "cut off" from those that are still active members of Scientology.

Tom Cruise was not awarded custody of Suri

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes hammered out the details of their divorce settlement in 11 days (per InStyle ), which is pretty remarkable. Surprisingly to many, Cruise was not awarded custody of the pair's daughter, Suri Cruise, at all, and instead walked away from the discussions with visitation rights only. In fact, Tom Cruise was told he can visit with Suri up to 10 days a month, according to Us Weekly .

Cruise also committed to a fairly hefty sum for child support, and TMZ reported that he pays over $33,000 a month for Suri's care. While that's noting to sniff at, it's a far cry from the sum a judge could have probably ordered him to pay if the divorce had gone to court, especially as his overall net worth is believed to be approximately $600 million (per Celebrity Net Worth ). Cruise is also in charge of covering any necessary expenses Suri might rack up, including medical and dental insurance, schooling, and college, and he also funds extracurricular activities (per TMZ).

It sounds like Tom Cruise doesn't always see Suri in person

Even though the custody agreement struck between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes makes it clear that he can see their daughter, Suri Cruise, for 10 days a month, it seems like he hasn't been able to make that happen. On top of that, a source apparently close to the situation told Us Weekly that this seems to be a deliberate choice that Cruise is making. The source told the publication, "Every person is allowed to see their child if they wanted to. He chooses not to because she is not a Scientologist."

Outspoken critic of Scientology Tony Ortega spoke to Us Weekly about what might be going on behind closed doors, explaining that it's possible Holmes signed a document agreeing not to speak badly of the religion in order to get full custody. Ortega added that Holmes only had one objective: to take care of Suri. He said, "She wanted to get away and she wanted to get Suri."

In 2013, Tom Cruise admitted he hadn't seen Suri Cruise for 100 days

Things only got messier for Tom Cruise in the year after his divorce was finalized. In 2013, he admitted that he hadn't seen his youngest child for at least 100 days, explaining that his prolonged absence was due to his filming schedule. 

According to  People , Cruise said in a deposition hearing for her lawsuit again Bauer Publishing that it was "impossible" for him to see Suri during that time, and on top of that, he claimed that the then 7-year-old seemed just fine without him. After sharing that he's "very good" at talking to his daughter on the phone, Cruise added, "I also find that, you know, Suri is a very happy child, and confident, and has a good sense of herself."

He further explained that, though he missed Suri's first day of school, that was because his daughter didn't ask him to be there herself.

How long has it been since he's seen his daughter in person?

While Tom Cruise might have been able to explain why he didn't see Suri Cruise for 100 days, he then reportedly missed out on seeing his daughter in person for over 1,000 days. In 2016, In Touch Weekly reported that Cruise had not seen or exchanged words with Suri in over two and a half years. A source allegedly close to the situation told the publication that the pair had been using video chat and text messaging to stay in touch but that it had slowed down, before adding that Suri no longer really bought her father's explanations for why he was missing. The source said, "He uses his film commitments as an excuse, but the truth is that doesn't hold much weight with Suri anymore."

As in the past, some believe that Cruise's religion is the reason why he keeps missing out on his daughter's life. The same source told In Touch as much, noting, "He's disconnected from Katie, and then de facto from Suri, because of her connection to Katie. He hasn't seen her since she was 7."

A friend reportedly said Tom Cruise never meant to 'be estranged' from Suri

Despite Tom Cruise's reportedly prolonged period of estrangement from Suri, an alleged friend of his has stated that the actor never meant to be so far removed from his daughter. While speaking to Hollywood Life in 2019, the friend explained that, even though Cruise isn't with Suri on important days like her birthday, he's always planning for them. The friend said, "Tom does plan to send Suri a gift and call her on her birthday."

The friend added that Cruise has a lot of love for Suri, and that being this distant from his daughter wasn't something he anticipated when he and Katie Holmes welcomed Suri to the world. The friend explained, "Tom never intended to be estranged from his daughter when he decided to have a family with Katie and looks forward to repairing the relationship one day."

While it's unclear when Cruise will ever reconnect with his daughter, assuming the reports about their estrangement are true, one thing that is certainly true is that the path getting to this point has been long, winding, and, truth be told, quite confusing. Perhaps the two will grow closer when Suri is an adult.

Tom Cruise doesn't live in the same state as Suri

One factor that likely complicates the relationship between Tom Cruise and daughter Suri is that they don't live in the same state — or even the same country. While Suri lives in New York City with her mom, Katie Holmes, Cruise has reportedly been living in London, England, since April 2021 (per In Touch Weekly ).

A source told the publication that the city is a natural fit for Cruise, explaining that he especially enjoys the rainy weather and being able to walk around his new home. He is also reportedly fond of the city because of the anonymity it lends him. The source said, "If he wears a hat and mask, he can slip into bookstores or antique shops and no one knows it's him. He's got family living there, too, which gives him a sense of belonging."

As for Suri, she and her mom moved to New York following the divorce. Holmes admitted to InStyle in 2020 that the city isn't quite as private as she'd like, but she said that the city is just right for her and Suri. She shared, "What I love about New York is that for me and my child, this is our vibe."

Why Lewis Hamilton Turned Down Tom Cruise's Offer To Join Top Gun: Maverick

"Top Gun: Maverick" could have featured racing royalty. One of the most celebrated films of the last decade — and the project that solidified Tom Cruise's status as Hollywood's last great action star  – the long-gestating sequel was worth the wait. With so much clout, it's no wonder that racing maverick Lewis Hamilton is bummed that he didn't get to star in the flick. In an interview with GQ , Hamilton opened up about his friendship with Cruise, and how he eventually gained the confidence to ask the actor to put him in "Top Gun 2" if it ever happened. When "Maverick" was finally greenlit, Cruise reached out to Hamilton and offered him the role of a lifetime as one of the film's many pilots. 

Unfortunately for Hamilton, the call to "Top Gun" coincided with his 2018 rivalry with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel. Arguably one of the most important years of his career, Hamilton had to choose between "Top Gun" and preparing for his races. "Firstly, I hadn't even had, like, an acting lesson," Hamilton explained. "And I don't want to be the one that lets this movie down. And then secondly, I just really didn't have the time to dedicate to it. I remember having to tell [director Joseph Kosinski] and Tom — and it broke my heart," the racer said. 

Hamilton went on to make waves that year and cement his status as one of the greats on racing's Mt. Rushmore, but he still thinks he made the wrong choice. "And then I regretted it, naturally, when they show me the movie and it's: It could've been me!" Hamilton exclaimed. 

Lewis Hamilton is making his own racing movie

It's easy to imagine the suave and confident Lewis Hamilton stepping into the shoes of one of the pilots in "Top Gun: Maverick." But ultimately, the racer never got the opportunity to cement his friendship with Tom Cruise on the big screen. Those initial chats about starring in "Maverick," however, seemed to help Hamilton secure his next gig.

Set in the world of Formula One racing, the film reunites "Top Gun: Maverick" director Kosinski with franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer. The duo asked Hamilton to join the film and help ensure its authenticity, something that excites the driver. "I felt my job really has been to try to call BS [...] Just giving them advice about what racing is really about and what, as a racing fan, would appeal and what would not," he told GQ. While he missed out on Cruise's flick, Hamilton could potentially be responsible for another cinematic classic. Details are slim but hopefully, the film can make box office history like "Top Gun: Maverick." 

Seeing as Hamilton already has a working relationship with Kosinski and Bruckheimer and a friendship with Cruise, it's possible that he could still have a shot at  the upcoming "Top Gun 3," which is in the works at Paramount .
