When I was given the tickets to see JMJ I was elated, then my heart sank as I saw it was at the O2.

Years previously I saw Prince from a few rows back. What a nightmare of acoustic mayhem. So, so disappointed that I swore I would never return.

Well, we arrived for the last 20 mins of the warm-up act, a very muffled DJ with his interpretation of the inside of a morgue overnight. Interesting ? Not really. Maybe he was setting a counterpoint for what was to follow.

The Arena was draped with lingering 'smoke', the lights dimmed to be replaced with a low rumbling chime that penetrated your body. The on-stage LED curtains reflected a series of moving blue images, similar to that of the surface of water, displaced by sound...... and away we went becoming immersed into the techno world of music accompanied by light and images.

The music was very close to the originals, so much so in some places that I began to wonder. But great musicians can replicate performances with little variation.

However, again the sound and O2 acoustics let the concert down. Little if any high end, that which provides the complexities and nuances I so love and the sound just overpowering, too much to really enjoy. My ears are ringing after 20 hours. Thanks guys !

Right up there with head banging ! Maybe the sound engineers were being kind to the failing hearing of the audience whose average age must have been 60. They don't need the high end either.

What a waste of great composition, great performance and a fantastic light show.

The track Exit, with Edward Snowden was well up there, perhaps better live.

Would I go again ? To the O2 ? No !

Would I go again to see Jean Michel Jarre ? Only to venues on recommendation of friends who I know and trust.

Given that the types of music he’s concerned himself with over the course of his career - which, at this point, has spanned in excess of four decades - it’s quite astonishing to think that Jean Michel Jarre has not only sold more than eighty million albums, but also ingratiated himself into popular culture in a way that no other ambient producer - except for maybe Brian Eno - has achieved. He’s certainly the towering figure of the new age music movement, so much so that he earned his own radio station on popular video game Grand Theft Auto IV in 2008; his success, though, has been built on much more than just his records, with his breathtaking live shows having plenty to do with it, too. Having performed to over a million people at Place de la Concorde in Paris in the seventies - he’s since broken his own record three times in that respect - he’s often released new albums to coincide with huge gigs, with his sprawling shows lasting over two hours and incorporating diverse instrumentation and frankly mindblowing light shows. He continues to make appearances at UK arenas on a sporadic basis, so there’s always the possibility you’ll get to see for yourself before too long.

This was infact my first Jarre experience. I've always been a huge fan since childhood so I had high expectations but also kept in mind that this tour was presented in a smaller format for a smaller audience. I saw him at the Falconer salen i Denmark 26/10. To have in mind it was a smaller arrangement and less orchestral the visual effects was really nice just to be expected from a perfektionist like Jarre and crew. Unfortunately I was a bit let down to the fact that no songs from either of his best albums, Magnetic Fields, Zoolook, Rendez-Vous or Chronologie were performed! Most part of the songs were newer material, more clubbish then what Jarre is known for. Also Jarre encouraged us to cheer along during the concert clapping hands which made the whole experience feel all too much commercial not letting the audience to be swept away in his dreamlandscapes of sounds and arrangements. Clapping hands? What's that, showing our appreciation to Jarre. That felt awkward and stupid. If this commercial aim and so with the newer clubbier music is his goal then no thanks for seing him again. That is just cheap and rubbish. Final verdict 6/10 I am sorry to say.

Fantastic concert, as always. JMJ's music does not really get old. He reinvents himself, samples his old work, plays 'against' himself sometimes. He's interesting without fail, if nothing else. My only beef with his music is that he plays some of his newer stuff too loud, succumbing to the modern desire for more base and more drums. It'd be nice to see electronica not give in. Not everyone can use les ondes martenot, but every other kid abuses drums.

As for special effects, JMJ's other recognizable trait, the concert was not as crazy or innovative as his biggest shows in the 80s and 90s but it was a fantastic use of a fairly rare projection tech.

I think my only quabble was the venue. Sony Centre is great for plays and quiet concerts that are perfectly enjoyed while sitting. Jean-Michel's music is a melodic embodiment of space, and space it needs. Seeing the setting of the concert in Israel just a few weeks earlier made me think that a desert-like setting, amidst sands and rocks and under the stars would be infinitely better than the suffocation of a small, low-ceiling theare downtown Toronto.

I have been going to various concerts for a while, but this was the first time that I've had the opportunity to go to a JMJ concert.

This concert was AWESOME!!!!!!! The music, the lasers, the show, the energy that JMJ put into the show. It was sad though that not that many people attended the show; because the show was PHENOMENAL!!!!!

Listening to Oxygene, Chantes Magnetiques, Equinoxe and many others being played by Jean Michel Jarre himself - unbelievable!!!

I've been listening to JMJ for many, many years. This is the first time that he played in Los Angeles - AMAZING SHOW.

Hopefully he comes back to Southern California in the near future.

Long time fan, but never been to a JMJ concert, until now! Quite a surprise, lots of new material, lots of hits that are slightly update to mix nicely with the new upbeat tracks. I think JMJ re-invented himself and I'm okay with that, although I doubt if we'll ever see new legendary compositions that change music all over again as he did before. I had a great evening, great music, awesome show with lots of effects, 3D lighting, lasers, etc. I'd go again whenever he's back in my little country!

A remarkable show from the original electronica master. 40 year later Oxygene is still as vibrant and stirring as ever. JMJ was warm, engaging and energetic. Obviously loving the event and his audience. The light show was the most brilliant and inventive I have ever seen (and I see 25+ shows a year). I was delighted at how energetic and sound perfect this show was. See JMJ if you can. Excellent concert. Thanks J! Brought back a lot of memories. Last saw the man at the London Docklands - twice.

This was the first time Jean Michel played in Chile and it was the most remarkable concert I have ever attended, the sound was magnificent and the visual effects were much more than I expected.

The repertory mixed old and new stuff, and JMJ proved why he is been on top for so long.

I was an early fan, and dreamed to see him playing here. All I can say is the 40 years wait was worth it.

Sounds and light go off the scale. It is very loud (lung shakingly loud at one point) and the light show is a barrage of sensory input - in 3D no less.

If you can, go and experience this. You'll not be dissapointed.

Great concert. The visual effects from the light shows is amazing. The sounds is great. The bass is deep and solid. The music is a little different than the music I used to hear. Would love to see his concert again somewhere.

Jean-michel jarre is world's first passenger to take off in kleinvision's flying aircar.

PIESTANY, Slovakia , April 24, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Godfather of electronic music and innovator Jean-Michel Jarre becomes world's first passenger to take off in KleinVision's flying AirCar  in preparation for Starmus  Opening Concert also Featuring Sir Brian May of Queen.

KleinVision's AirCar took to the skies with electronic music pioneer, Jean-Michel Jarre as its first passenger this month, signaling a new era of transportation innovation. AirCar, which received the Certificate of Airworthiness in January 2022 , has already logged an impressive 130 flight hours and over 520 takeoffs.

"It is like being in a Jules Verne book, but for real! One second you speak to the driver, and next, you are up there in the air – an amazing experience!" said Jean-Michel Jarre  after completing two flights in the AirCar at Piestany international airport.

The artist's excitement was palpable as he marveled at the futuristic experience, perfectly reflecting the theme of his upcoming Starmus opening concert, 'The Bridge from the Future' , powered by ESET, global digital security leader.

"AirCar addition to Starmus is a fantastic complement to our festival experience," said Garik Israelian , PhD, astrophysicist at the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands and co-founder of Starmus, alongside Sir Brian May . "It mirrors the exhilarating journey we embark on, starting with Jean-Michel and Brian's monumental concert that propels us to new heights, soaring alongside artists and inspiring thinkers like Jane Goodall , and coming back to Earth with the wisdom of astronaut Chris Hadfield once the festival concludes."

"AirCar will not only be part of the Starmus opening concert, it will also be showcased at Starmus Camp, which, together with the Stephen Hawking Medal Ceremony and nine Nobelists giving lectures, will turn Bratislava into the world capital of science."

Film director Todd Douglas Miller , Emmy Award-winning filmmaker of Apollo 11 , captured the historic moment as he filmed the AirCar soaring at 2500 feet. "It looks impossible. It looks like it's doing something it should not be doing!" Miller remarked, highlighting the groundbreaking nature of AirCar.

Professor Stefan Klein , inventor and pilot, expressed his pride as Jean-Michel became the inaugural passenger on the groundbreaking aircraft. "From dreams to reality, we have taken flight together with Jean-Michel, opening a new era of transportation with a touch of magic," said Klein, moments before completing another successful intercity flight from Piestany to Nitra.

Anton Zajac , co-founder of KleinVision and ESET, lauded the advancement the AirCar represents in blurring the lines between roads and skies. "We are bridging the gap between the road and the sky, giving cars the freedom they symbolized 50 years ago," Zajac remarked.

The flights took place in Piestany, Slovakia , and marked a momentous step towards a future where terrestrial and aerial travel seamlessly converge.

Jean-Michel Jarre’s AirCar Adventure: Future of Mobility

T o achieve pioneer status in any field requires boldness and a daring spirit. Jean-Michel Jarre, renowned for his contributions to electronic music, embodies this ethos, stepping beyond of his comfort zone to ride in a flying automobile as the first civilian passenger.

Introduced in 2019 by Stefan Klein’s Klein Vision, the AirCar represents a leap in transportation innovation, serving as both a car and a light aircraft. Recently, Jarre started on the AirCar’s second intercity flight, underscoring its potential as a revolutionary mode of transport.

Flying from Piestany to Nitra in Slovakia for the 2024 Starmus festival, Jarre’s journey showcases the AirCar’s versatility. Displayed at Starmus, the AirCar offers a look into the future of mobility, bridging the gap between ground and air travel.

Powered by a 160-hp BMW engine and boasting a Certificate of Airworthiness, the AirCar combines road and air capabilities seamlessly. While regulations for flying cars remain nascent, Klein envisions widespread adoption of the AirCar soon.

Composer, performer, producer. Visionary, innovator, cultural ambassador.

Jean-Michel Jarre first came to international fame with his number one hit album « Oxygene » which went on to sell over 18 million copies worldwide.

Composer, performer, producer. Visionary, innovator, cultural ambassador. Any list of Jean-Michel Jarre’s countless factettes would inevitably come short of his actual significance in music history. “JMJ” is a living legend and often referred to as the “Godfather of Electronic Music”. When Jarre launched his landmark- debut album “OXYGENE” in 1976, he opened a new chapter in music history. The record has sold over 18 million copies and laid the foundations for his exceptional career. Jarre’s pioneering work gave birth to a veritable cult and the fastest-growing trend the music industry has ever stood to witness: the rise of electronic music.

Jean-Michel Jarre’s music always followed his firm conviction that progress could only ever be achieved through daring deviations from the norm. Born to famous film music composer and director Maurice Jarre , JMJ studied harmony and counterpoint, became a student of the great musicologist Pierre Schaeffer and began drawing his own creative conclusions from his mentor’s “musique concrète”. Boldly balancing between the spheric-abstract and the very direct melodic foundations of his music, Jarre managed to evoke the poetry of encounter and connection: between people, between handmade and high-tech, between organic and artificial, between wisdom and vision.

Jarre’s visionary creative output is perpetually linked to his innovative exploration of new technological trends. From the first modular and polyphone synth and drum-machines to digital keyboards, plug-ins and apps, JMJ is always one the forefront to use them. He was the one to popularize the laser harp , he used the Houston skyline at a gigantic outdoor concert in 1986 as a projection surface for the first-ever large-scale laser-mapping performance and set up a live video connection to the MIR astronauts in space during his epic Moscow spectacle in 1997 . His millennium concert in Egyp t was the first concert ever to be streamed live on the internet. Jarre was also the first to release an entire album in 5.1 . Sound and the first artist to use 3D audio technology for music.

Jarre, a three time Guinness World Record holder for largest outdoor performances, was always keen to present his music in one-off events and turning them into unforgettable experiences for those present. Jarre came up with the idea to create a whole new form of live experience: gigantic and flamboyant high- tech performances. Spectacular shows with massive sound engineering and futuristic laser and light projections : free outdoor concerts that incorporated their iconic urban and natural surroundings into unforgettable multi-sensory experiences. Jarre set up these concerts in the most specular open air venues around the globe: a Y2K millennium performance at the pyramids in Cairo , the first Western live act in post- Mao China , a welcome show for the Pope in Lyon , a NASA commemoration concert in downtown Houston , performances in Beijing’s Forbidden City or the Sahara Desert . Jarre quickly became the ultimate benchmark for outdoor events. To this date he owns the Guinness World Record for the monumental 3.5 million spectators to his Moscow concert in 1997 .

Whilst Jarre is at the forefront of artists using new technology for music, his art was always accompanied by deep reflections on the role of technology for the future of our planet. The famous 1976 Oxygene cover that showcased the polluted mother earth in form of a skull, the Equinoxe cover by artist Michel Granger which was both fascinating and disturbing, added to the most iconic cover artworks of all time: countless rows of mysterious and utterly faceless “watchers” seemed to stare right at whoever looked at the image : an early vision of technology constantly watching us. Just recently the cover art for Equinoxe Infinity caused a stir. It was released in two versions. One visual depicts a utopian future, where mankind coexists peacefully with nature and technology. The other one paints a dystopian picture of fear and distortion, where dark Artificial Intelligence has taken over the world.

Optimistic in nature and yet critic in spirit, Jarre always raised awareness for questions around nature and technology— and became a globally renowned expert on the topics. He was honoured with the Stephen Hawking Medal for Science Communication, collaborated with Edward Snowden , tested Artificial Intelligence for music compositions and is constantly invited to share his thoughts in speeches and forums. The UN appointed Jarre UNESCO spokesperson for Environment and Education , and in 2013 he was elected President of the Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) in Washington. Jarre’s expertise is in demand, his input highly valued.

A mind-blowing flying car has made history after conducting the world’s first flight with a passenger.

Music legend Jean-Michel Jarre, 75, took off in KleinVision’s half-plane hybrid, known as the AirCar, in Slovakia this week to mark the company’s latest milestone.

The French electronic artist completed two flights in the futuristic vehicle at Piestany international airport in front of mesmerised onlookers, The Sun reports.

Made in Slovakia by Professor Stefan Klein and KleinVision’s co-founder Anton Zajac, the AirCar was approved for flight in 2022 following more than 200 successful takeoffs and landings.

The year before, the record-breaking vehicle had become the first flying car to complete an intercity flight.

Now, a successful flight involving a passenger has been added to the growing list of milestones.

As a long-time supporter of future tech, Jarre jumped at the chance to become part of history.

“One second you speak to the driver, and next, you are up there in the air. An amazing experience,” he said.

The AirCar is able to transform from a sports car into a plane within minutes.

The 1,000kg two-seat dual-mode prototype has foldable wings and a propeller on the back, and only needs 300 metres of runway to get off the ground and into the sky.

It previously featured on one episode of The Grand Tour, where Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May watched it take off and land.

Footage also showed the vehicle flying at up to 193km at 2438 metres high.

The AirCar is currently powered by 1.6L BMW engine, although the eventual plan is to move to electric power.

“As soon as the technology improves, we will simply run on batteries,” Mr Zajac told Sky News.

“We are bridging the gap between the road and the sky, giving cars the freedom they symbolised 50 years ago.”
