Roslagen – a taste of the good life in the coastal countryside

Visiting Roslagen – the coastal countryside within easy reach of both Stockholm and Uppsala – feels nothing short of taking a step back in time, when the pace of life was a lot slower. This idyllic archipelago, which encompasses charming towns like Vaxholm, Norrtälje and Öregrund is the antidote to hectic urbanity. You’ll get plenty of space for yourself, yet there’s a lot do across culture, outdoor activities, culinary experiences and even shopping for artisanal handicrafts.

Roslagen and its many individual villages, islands and fishing communities cover varied terrain – from cliffs and sandy beaches to forest and meadows bursting with wild flowers.

Here’s a taste of what Roslagen has to offer:

Explore the historic maritime town of öregrund.

The culture-rich harbour town of Öregrund, located in the northernmost part of Roslagen, dates back to the 15th century. Today, it’s sought after for its well-preserved wooden houses and unique village charm. Wander the picturesque streets of the centuries-old centre, stopping for a coffee in one of the many cosy cafés or popping into the small independent craft shops such as Hantverket . Here you’ll find everything from pottery to textile art, created by a talented community of artisans.

As for must-see landmarks, the mid 19th-century town hall and the church of Öregrund are highlights. The church itself is built in stone, but the distinctive 18th-century bell tower is a wooden structure painted red, 18 metres high.

Walkers will find plenty of stroll-friendly environments – from Öregrund harbour to the trails snaking through the vast recreational area Tallparken. You’ll also find sandy beaches and tennis courts within this beautiful expanse. Tallparken is also known for its cliffs – find your favourite spot and stop for a picnic while taking in the sweeping views.

Make sure to catch the sun as it sets in the ocean – Öregrund is the only town on Sweden’s east coast allowing you to experience this natural wonder. The elevated position of the elegant late 19th-century community building ‘Societetshuset’ – which can be booked for events – makes it perfect for admiring the ocean sunset.

Set off on a soft adventure in the archipelago

Immerse yourself in genuine archipelago life by spending the day on the island of Rävsten (reachable by boat via Äspskärs jetty in Gräsö). The terrain is varied with rounded rocks, fir tree woods and vast stretches of natural beach, studded with secluded spots ideal for a peaceful swim.

Look out for the many rare species of flora and fauna such as ‘rödklint’ (brown knapweed) and ‘blodnäva’ (bloody cranesbill) that thrive in this haven of biodiversity. Small-scale farming has been a central way of life for hundreds of years on Rävsten – and still is to some degree, though the land is mainly used for grazing today – which explains the many open fields and meadows bursting with wild blooms. Tourism is another important, yet equally small-scale, industry during the summer months. Nature lovers keen to explore the island over a few days can rent quaint cabins via Rävstens Stugby , for instance.

Soak up the coastal beauty of Roslagen by cruising along the water in a kayak – and keep an eye out for eagles and grey seals. A range of kayaks can be rented at Gräsö Kanotcentral , located on Rävsten. The company also organises fishing trips.

Roslagen’s varied menu of fish and seafood

Thanks to its seaside location and strong fishing culture, Roslagen is a natural draw for seafood lovers. One of the top restaurants in Öregrund is Bojabäs by top chef Melker Andersson. Housed in a fishing hut by the water, you’ll be dining in a relaxed atmosphere, feasting on freshly caught fish. Be sure to try the traditional French fish stew Bouillabaisse, after which the restaurant is named.

Also consider the Öregrund takeaway eatery Strandnära , which serves up various types of smoked fish, shellfish and other sorts of seafood to enjoy outdoors. If you prefer to eat in, opt for Standnära Bistro & Bar next door.

Roslagen is the name of the coastal areas north of Stockholm, which also constitute the northern part of the Stockholm Archipelago. Small picturesque island villages, historical sites, and untouched nature are waiting to be discovered in Roslagen. The largest communities are Norrtälje, Grisslehamn, Österåker, Öregrund, and Östhammar.

Try an island tour and sail with a historical ship or paddle in a kayak. Travel down interesting footpaths in the national park, and see white-tailed eagles and seals in the outer archipelago. Dessa allmänna villkor gäller mellan Visit Roslagen AB (VRAB), och för Dig som själv eller genom annan träffar avtal med VRAB enligt vad som angetts i bekräftelsen. Avtalet kan gälla boende, paket, evenemang, köp av andra produkter och tjänster, eller en kombination av dessa.

När blir min bokning bindande?

Bokningen gäller för såväl VRAB som för Dig så snart VRAB bekräftat bokningen och Du inom avtalad tid betalt summan för bokningen.

Vad, när och till vem skall jag betala?

Du skall betala publicerat pris för bokningen. Tidpunkt och mottagare av betalning framgår av Särskilda Villkor.

Bokningsavgift

Vi har inga bokningsavgifter förutom vid fakturabetalning då vi tar en avgift på 50kr. Betalning mot faktura kan enbart ske vid bokning via VRAB på 0767-650 660.

Vad händer om jag inte betalar i tid?

BETALNING: Full betalning vid bokningstillfället. Eller via länk inom angiven tid. Visit Roslagen AB skickar ingen betalningspåminnelse på obetalda avgifter. Bokningen avbokas om inte avgiften är Visit Roslagen AB tillhanda inom angiven tid vid bokningstillfället. Om Du inte betalar i tid betraktas detta som en avbokning, varvid reglerna om avbokning gäller.

Vad gäller om jag vill avboka?

Du avbokar muntligen till VRAB´s på tel:0767-650 660 eller online via länk som du hittar i din bokningsbekräftelse. Notera att din avbokning inte är giltig förrän du erhållit en skriftlig bekräftelse från VRAB. Om andra avbokningsmöjligheter finns, framgår detta av Särskilda Villkor nedan. Vid avbokning gäller avgifter enligt Särskilda Villkor.

Vad gäller om jag bara vill ändra på något?

150kr per bokning och tillfälle. Ändringar ska alltid ske via telefon till VRAB på tel. 0767-650 660. Ändringar 1-7 dagar innan ankomst anses som avbokning. 8 dagar eller fler före ankomst gäller ändringskostnad på 150kr per bokning och tillfälle. Ändring av gäst som genererar en högre slutsumma innebär att ingen ändringsavgift tas ut.

Men om det händer mig något?

Du kan skydda Dig mot avbokningskostnader genom att köpa ett avbeställningsskydd. Prisuppgift se under Särskilda Villkor. Avgiften för avbeställningsskydd, ändringsavgift samt bokningsavgift återbetalas ej.

Avbeställningsskyddet gäller om följande inträffar:

• Dödsfall, sjukdom eller olycksfall av allvarlig art, som drabbat Dig själv, maka/make, sambo, Dina eller deras föräldrar, barn, syskon eller medresenär.
• Inkallelse till krigsmakten eller civilförsvaret.
• Det inträffar någon annan allvarlig händelse utanför Din kontroll, t.ex. omfattande eldsvåda eller översvämning i Din bostad, som medför att det inte är rimligt att begära att Du skall stå fast vid Din bokning.

Du måste kunna styrka ditt förhinder med intyg från läkare, myndighet eller försäkringsbolag.

Vad händer om något går snett?

Om hela eller delar av Din bokning inte kan levereras enligt bokningsbekräftelsen och om inget ersättningsarrangemang kan ordnas, vars skillnader mot det Du bokade är så små att det saknar betydelse för Dig t.ex. hotell eller stuga i samma klass så har Du rätt att avboka. Du får då tillbaka allt det Du betalat, med avdrag för värdet av de delar av bokningen, som Du ev. redan hunnit utnyttja. Om en transporttjänst eller evenemang som ingått i bokningen inställs på kort varsel, gäller att återbetalning sker endast för inställt evenemang/transporttjänst. Om Du har klagomål måste Du framföra dem till oss inom 3 dagar från ankomstdagen. Fel som uppstår under vistelsen skall rapporteras omedelbart. Detta görs i första hand till ex. hotellet. Om Du underlåtit att söka rättelse under hyrestiden och därmed ej givit hotellet/värden möjlighet att rätta till eventuella brister, kan Du inte i efterhand kräva ersättning. Om Du ändå inte är nöjd med kompensationen / ersättningen skall detta framföras skriftligen senast 60 dagar efter avresa.

Vad händer om jag och arrangören inte kommer överens?

Vänd Dig direkt till oss med eventuella klagomål. Om vi inte kommer överens kan Du vända Dig till Allmänna Reklamationsnämnden. Den består av en opartisk ordförande och representanter för researrangörer och konsumenter. Nämndens adress är: Box 174, 101 23 Stockholm.

Som arrangör är vi skyldiga att se till att:

• Du får en skriftlig bekräftelse på Din bokning.
• Du får handlingar och övriga uppgifter i god tid.
• Köpta tjänster stämmer med beskrivningen. Vi ansvarar inte för löften som ägaren eller dennes kontaktperson kan ha gjort direkt till Dig utan vår vetskap och som vi inte känt till. (Om Du överenskommit om något som inte omfattas av arrangörens avtal, se till att Du får det skriftligt och undertecknat av ägare eller kontaktperson).
• Du informeras om alla väsentliga förändringar, som rör Din bokning.
• Om Du inte är nöjd med hela eller delar av bokningen så är det oss Du skall vända Dig till.

Vad har jag för skyldigheter?

• Du har skyldighet att själv kontrollera bokningsbekräftelsen så snart den erhålls. Eventuella felaktigheter måste påtalas omedelbart. Utfästelser gjorda av bokningspersonal som är av väsentlig betydelse för Dig skall vara noterade i färdhandlingarna för att kunna åberopas.

Vi reserverar oss för lagändringar och prisändringar som ligger utanför vår kontroll.

Personuppgiftslagen

Genom att betala samtycker Du till att personuppgifter får behandlas av VRAB. Syftet med detta är att möjliggöra sedvanlig gästadministration, att tillförsäkra att VRAB har tillgång till tillförlitlig persondokumentation i händelse av olycksfall, att uppfylla villkoren för avbeställningsskyddet samt att administrera och behandla eventuella skador. Uppgifterna kan också komma att användas för att informera om försäkrings- och betalningstjänster samt reserelaterade erbjudanden. Gästen kan även komma att kontaktas för marknadsundersökningar.

Minimumålder för bokning

För att boka/ingå avtal med oss måste man vara 18 år. Vid boende i större sällskap skall minst två personer vara fyllda 18 år, om ingen högre åldergräns anges på anläggningsinformationen. Legitimering sker vid ankomst. Uppfyllande av åldergräns är ett krav för att få tillträde till boendet.

Betalning slutbetalning

BETALNING: Full betalning vid bokningstillfället. Eller via länk inom angiven tid. Visit Roslagen AB skickar ingen betalningspåminnelse på obetalda avgifter. Bokningen avbokas om inte avgiften är Visit Roslagen AB tillhanda inom angiven tid vid bokningstillfället.

Avbeställningsskydd

Kan endast tecknas vid bokningstillfället. Avbeställningsskyddet gäller för samtliga namngivna personer i bokningen. Avbeställningsskyddet gäller endast i samband med uppvisande av läkarintyg enligt mall som tillhandahålls av VRAB. Om kunden väljer att utnyttja avbeställningsskyddet avbokas samtliga personer i bokningen. Ingen delåterbetalning kan ske om övriga väljer att utnyttja resan.

Force Majeure

För det fall resan inte kan genomföras på grund av ett hinder utanför arrangörens kontroll som arrangören inte skäligen kunde förväntas ha räknat med när avtalet ingicks och vars följder denne inte heller skäligen kunde ha undvikit eller övervunnit är arrangören fri från skadeståndsskyldighet eller andra påföljder. Detsamma gäller även om resans inställelse beror på någon som arrangören anlitat eller annan i tidigare led.

Terms and conditions

These general terms and conditions apply between the Visit Roslagen AB (hereafter VRAB) and you who directly or indirectly enter into agreements with VRAB, as indicated in the confirmation. Such an agreement can relate to accommodations, transport, activities, services, or a combi nation of these.

Who is responsible?

Responsible organiser is Visit Roslagen AB, Rådhustorget 1, SE-742 31 Östhammar. +46 (0)767-650 660. Corp. ID NO. 556525-2722. Special terms and conditions may apply for regularly scheduled means of transportation. The booking location is required to ensure that you are made aware of these at the time of booking, that you receive the proper documents of transport, and that you are informed of all significant changes that relate to your booking. If the products are booked through a retailer, that retailer is obligated to ensure that the customer complies with the terms and payment routines of the organiser.

When will my booking become binding?

The booking applies to both VRAB and you as soon as VRAB has confirmed the booking.

What, when and who should I pay?

You are required to pay the published price for the booking subject to the addition or the deduction of such changes of taxes and transport expenses that occurred after the printing of the programme. The time and recipient of the payment are indicated in the Special Terms and Conditions.

What happens if I do not pay on time? VRAB will not send a reminder of an unpaid deposit. Booking will be canceled unless the fee is not paid to VRAB later in the day of the reservation. Have you paid the deposit, a reminder is sent the remaining amount. The reservation will be canceled if no final payment is VRAB later than the date printed on the reminder. If you do not pay on time, it will be considered as a cancellation and the cancellation regulations will apply.

What rules apply in the event I wish to cancel?

You can cancel through the website, www.roslagen.se.se or phone +46 (0)767-650 660 and give your booking number. Your cancellation will not be considered if it is directed to anyone else, or is sent directly to the facility. Please check the booking confirmation for additional information. Your cancellation will not be binding until you have received written (e-mail) confirmation of your cancellation from us. In the event of cancellation, fees shall be applied according to the Special Terms and Conditions. NOTE! Change of arrival or departure is counted as a cancellation.

What applies if I only wish to change something?

If there is an opportunity to make changes to parts of the booking, the Special Terms and Conditions indicate the cost of these. Please note that a change in the date of arrival or departure is deemed to be a cancellation.

What are the rules if something happens to me?

You can protect yourself against cancellation costs by purchasing cancellation insurance. For prices, see the Special Terms and Conditions.With cancellation insurance you can cancel up until the day before departure without any other charge than an administration fee of 10% of the booking price, not exceeding 200 SEK (for later cancellations the full fee). The fee for the cancellation, modification fees and reservation fees are not refundable. Cancellation protection applies if the following occurs, which may not have been known when you placed the reservation:

Death, illness or accident of a serious nature affecting you, your spouse or cohabitant, or your or their parents, children, siblings or travel companion.

Notice of conscription into the armed forces or the civil defence.

Any other serious event beyond your control, such as an extensive fire or flooding in your home, which would render it unreasonable to demand that you continue to honour your booking. You are required to substantiate this impediment with the help of certified statements by doctors, government agencies or insurance companies. Certificates received more than seven days after the date of cancellation will not be considered. Cancellation insurance, change or booking fees will not be refunded.

You must be able to substantiate any of statements from doctors, government or insurance companies. The certificate drawn up using the template provided by VRAB. Certificates submitted later than 7 days after the cancellation date will not be considered.

What happens if something goes wrong?

If all or part of your booking cannot be realised in conformity with the booking confirmation, and no alternative arrangements can be made that differ only slightly from your booking and have no significance for you (e.g. hotels or cottages in the same class), you are entitled to cancel. In that case, everything you have paid will be refunded to you, less the value of any parts of the booking that you may have already used. If a transport service or an event that was part of the booking is cancelled on short notice, the refund will apply only to the cancelled event and/or transport service. If you have any complaint, you are required to present it to us within three days of your date of arrival. Errors and defects that arise during your stay must be reported immediately. This should be directed primarily to the hotel or cottage manager, for example. If you have failed to attempt to seek a remedy during the rental period, and therefore deprived the hotel or manager of the opportunity to correct any errors or defects, you may not subsequently demand compensation. If you are nevertheless dissatisfied with the compensation or reimbursement, you are required to present this in writing within 60 days after the date of departure.

What happens if the organiser and I are unable to agree?

Please contact us directly with any complaints you may have. If we cannot agree, you can contact the National Board for Consumer Complaints (Sw. Allmänna Reklamationsnämnden, www.arn.se), which consists of an impartial chairperson and a number of representatives for tour organisers and consumers. As the organiser, we are responsible for ensuring that:

You receive a written confirmation of your booking, which you are responsible to check in order to avoid misunderstandings.

You receive documents and other information sufficiently in advance.

The services purchased comport with the description. We are not responsible for any promises that the owner or the contact person of the owner may have made to you directly, without our knowledge, and which we were unaware of. (If you have agreed on something that is not covered by the agreement with the organiser, make sure that you get it in writing, and signed by the owner or a contact person).

You are informed about all significant changes that affect your booking.

If you are not satisfied with all or part of the reservation, please contact us directly!

 What are my obligations?

You are required to check the booking confirmation yourself as soon as you receive it. Any defects or errors must be mentioned immediately. Promises by booking personnel that are important to you must be noted in the travel documents, in order to be cited.

You are required to comply with the rules of behaviour and instructions that apply to the trip you have booked. You will be given this information at the time of confirmation.

PERSONAL DATA ACT

By paying, you are consenting to having your personal data processed by VRAB. The purpose of this is to facilitate the customary arrangements for guests, and to ensure that VRAB has access to reliable personal documentation in the case of accidents, to satisfy the conditions for cancellation insurance, and to manage and treat any injuries. This information may also be used to provide information about insurance and payment services, as well as travel-related offers. The guests can also be contacted as part of market surveys.

Persons wishing information on which information is registered may request this pursuant to §26 of the Personal Data Act. Please inform VRAB in writing if you wish to correct or remove your information from the customer register.

Age limit for booking

You must be at least 18 years old in order to book or sign a contract with us. Regarding accommodations for larger groups, at lease two persons must be at least 18 years old, unless a higher age level is indicated as part of the facility information. Identification is required upon check-in. Compliance with the age requirement is a condition for taking possession of the accommodation.

Registration fees and final payment

Full payment at time of booking, or via the link within the specified time. Visit Roslagen AB will not send a reminder of an unpaid charges. The reservation will be canceled if no fee is Visit Roslagen AB not within the specified time at booking. 

Cancellation insurance

Cancellation insurance must be purchased at the same time as you make your booking, and applies to all persons named in the booking. Cancellation protection applies only upon the showing of a doctor’s certificate. If the customer chooses to use cancellation, all persons in the reservation will be canceled. No partial refund can be made if the other chooses to exploit the trip.

Events 15-30 days or more prior to arrival 25% of the booking price. 1-14 days prior to arrival: 100% of booking price. Charges for cancellation and amendment fee is not refundable.

Other 15 days or more prior to arrival: 10% of the booking price. 8-14 days prior to arrival: 25% of the booking price. 1-7 days prior to arrival: 100% of booking price. Charges for cancellation and amendment fee is not refundable.

(In case no cancellation insurance has been obtained or none applies).

Cost of changes

SEK 150 per booking. Note that the change of arrival or departure is counted as a cancellation. Additional costs for the change of travel tickets can be additional to this charge.

Booking fee We have no booking fees, except for invoice payment when we take a fee of SEK 50. Payment by invoice can only be made when booking via VRAB at +46 (0)767-650 660.

In the event the travel is unable to take place due to obstacles beyond the control of the organiser, which the organiser could not have reasonably been expected to know about at the time the agreement was entered into, and the consequence of which the organiser could not have reasonably avoided or overcome, the organiser shall be exempt from any obligation to pay damages or from other sanctions.
