Here is the most recent information about the family visit visa for expatriate residents, according to local media reports.

Two Types of Family Visit Visas.

Saudi Arabia currently issues two types of family visit visas to expatriate residents:

• 3-Months Single-Entry Visit Visa
• 1-Year Multi-Entry Visit Visa

Note: No more 2-year visit visa

Unified Visit Visa Fees for All Nationalities

For all nationalities, the fee for a single entry visit visa and a one-year multi-entry visit visa is SR 300.

Duration and Staying Period of Single-Entry Visit Visa

A single-entry visit visa will be valid for 90 days, which means within 90 days of visa stamping one can enter the kingdom.

On a single-entry visit visa, visitors will be allowed to stay up to 30 days (one month) and Jawazat will likely allow for an extension of the one-month stay period to further through Absher. 

Duration and Staying Period of 1-Year Multi-Entry Visa

On a one-year multiple entry visit visa, a visitor is allowed to stay a maximum of up to 3 months and it can be renewed for up to 6 months through Absher. Visitors will have to leave the Kingdom upon finishing 6 months in order to renew further. Once he re-entered the kingdom, upon 9th month again the visit visa can be renewed up to the validity (1 year) through Absher.

Jawazat clarifies on the Extension and renewal of Multiple visit visa of Saudi Arabia

The General Directorate of Passports ( Jawazat ) in Saudi Arabia renewed the reminder that it is not possible to renew the multiple visit visa for the second time and to stick to the visa controls leave the Kingdom before its expiry date.

Exit/Re-Entry Visa

Requirements:

• Original passport valid for no less than six (6) months, with at least two (2) successive empty visa pages.
• To fill your online application and make a visa payment, please log on to  https://visa.mofa.gov.sa .  ( Guideline for Enjaz )  Be sure to choose “single entry”.
• Copy of valid residence permit and copy of the last extension, if applicable. This must be provided before the extension is granted.
• Copy of family registration (printout from the Directorate General of Passports in the Saudi city where the applicant resides). This should include applicant’s complete information.
• Letter from the Saudi sponsor or consulate indicating the person is still employed and requesting extension of the re-entry visa. Letter must be notarized by a Saudi Chamber of Commerce if the sponsor is a private sector entity, or by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, if the sponsor is a government agency.
• Spouses and children of any person working in the Kingdom should provide a letter from said person addressed to the Saudi Consulate requesting an extension of their exit/re-entry visas. Letter must be notarized by the Saudi Chamber of Commerce, if the sponsor works for the private sector, or by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, if the sponsor works for a government agency.
• Students residing outside the Kingdom for more than thirteen (13) months must submit proof of current enrollment in school and a notarized letter from the guardian who is a resident in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
• Family members residing outside the Kingdom for more than 13 months and employees residing more than 6 months must provide a referral note, indicating the number and date of the exit re-entry visa, issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or either of its branches in Jeddah or Dammam. 
• Applicants must pay $100/month of over-stay outside the Kingdom after expiration of the exit/re-entry visa.
• Minors (under 18 years) travelling alone, or with one parent, must submit a notarized letter in Arabic or English signed by a parent or a legal guardian.

It is crucial to be aware of the terms and conditions of your Saudi visa and adhere to them. Overstaying a visa in Saudi Arabia can have serious consequences, and the penalties can be severe in certain countries. This advisory guide provides essential information on the penalty of overstaying in Saudi Arabia for individuals who overstayed their Saudi visas in 2023.

What Is The Penalty For Overstaying A Visa In Saudi Arabia?

Any visitor who is caught overstaying a visa in Saudi Arabia will be charged a fine of 100 SAR (98 AED) per day of overstay. Saudi Arabia started issuing visit visas only after opening for tourists in September 2019. Prior to that, only expatriates and special people were allowed entry to the Kingdom.

How Is The Penalty For Overstaying A Visit Visa In Saudi Arabia Calculated?

Overstaying fines can be calculated in two ways:

• Your duration of stay has expired, and you still need to leave the country or extend your visa. For example, your visa allows you to stay for 90 days in Saudi Arabia. If you have stayed in the country on the 91st day, you will be considered overstaying. If you leave the country on the 95th day, you will have to pay a fine of 500 SAR, since the overstay fine in Saudi Arabia is 100 SAR per day, before exiting the country.
• Your duration of stay isn't over, but your visa validity period has expired. If you hold a Saudi eVisa, it has a validity period of one year and permits a stay of 90 days. Suppose you are in Saudi Arabia when your eVisa's one-year visa validity is over. In that case, you will be penalized for overstaying visa in Saudi Arabia even if you still need to complete the allowed 90-day stay period.

Where To Pay The Penalty For Overstaying Visit Visa In Saudi Arabia?

The overstaying fines will be calculated during the exit at the airport's Immigration/Jawazat counter. You can settle your fine for overstaying visa in Saudi Arabia at the Immigration counter before boarding the flight.

How To Avoid Overstay Fine In Saudi Arabia?

If you want to avoid paying any penalty for overstaying your visa in Saudi Arabia, you have the following options:

It is always wise to confirm your visa expiry date and the last date of your permitted stay in Saudi Arabia from your visa consultant. Is Overstaying Visa In Saudi Arabia A Major Offense?

There is no such news regarding overstaying your Saudi Visit Visa as a major offense. However, in previous years, overstaying a Saudi residence visa resulted in hefty fines and imprisonment and, in rare cases, being blacklisted from re-entering the country. In the UK, if someone overstays their visa, they can be charged with a criminal offense under section 24 of the Immigration Act 1971. On the other hand, in the UAE, no legal provision considers it a crime to overstay a visitor's visa or a residence visa that has expired. It is always better to be safe than sorry and respect the laws of the country we are visiting. The best and safest practice is to avoid overstaying, which will save us money and from unnecessary trouble.

Will Overstaying Affect My Re-Entry?

This is entirely dependent on the decisions made by the Saudi Immigration team that is reviewing your visa.

1. What happens if you overstay your visa in Saudi Arabia?

The penalty for overstaying visa in Saudi Arabia is 100 SAR (98 AED) per day of overstaying. This means that if you overstay 5 days from your visa expiry day you will have to pay 500 SAR.

2. What happens if my visa expires in Saudi?

If your visa expires in Saudi, you will face an overstay fine in Saudi Arabia unless you have already applied for a visa extension. If you haven't applied for an extension, you will have to pay the fine at exit time.

• A single-entry family visit visa is issued initially for  90 days  duration of stay which can be extended  2  more times up to  270 days  through Absher.
• A multiple-entry family visit visa is issued initially for  90 days  duration of stay which can be extended  1  more time up to  120 days  through Tawasul request.

Solution 1 – Extend Visit Visa via Absher Tawasul Online

Maximum Possible Extension: 1 Month

Difficulty Level: Very Easy

Cost of Visa Extension: ~ SAR 150 per Passport (Insurance + SADAD Visa Extension Fee)

Start by preparing one PDF file for each family member  with all the below-mentioned documents to upload to Absher.

The size of the PDF file should not exceed 1MB.

• Error Message Screenshot.
• Passport of the visa holder.
• Visa detail from Absher.
• Insurance details.

Log in to your Absher account  https://www.absher.sa/.

• Click on the “ Services ” tab under “ My Services “.
• Select “ Passports “.
• Click on the “ Tawasul ” service.
• Click on the “ New Request ” button.
• Select Sector:  تأشيرة زيارة – Visit Visa
• Select Service:  تمديد تأشيرة الزيارة العائلية – Extend Family Visit Visa
• Request Description: Mention your border number and Passport number ( Mandatory ). 
• Attachment: Attach the PDF file you have created before.
• The Family visit visa will be mostly extended within a day or on the day of Expiry of the visit visa.

Special characters are not allowed:  Remove all the (. ! ?, ‘ “ etc) special characters and you should be good to go.

Solution 2 – Visit Jawazat (Passports Office)

Difficulty Level: Medium

Cost of Visa Extension: ~ SAR 180 per Passport (Insurance + SADAD Visa Extension Fee + Visit to Jawazat Office)

If you don’t get any re sponse in Absher, visit Jawazat Office (Search in Google Maps) on the day of your visa expiry with following documents:

1- Visitor original passport & Copy (Front + Visa Page) 2- Jawazat appointment letter Obtained via Absher.sa Appointments Section . (Most important) 3- Insurance slip or proof. 4- Visa extension fee slip (100 SAR). 5- Extension Error Print & Visa Expiry Page from Absher

Submit the documents to the Officer and get it extended instantly.

Note: It is better to take Jawazat appointment early enough so as to not not miss the slot. No need to take your family to the Jawazat Office.

Solution 3 – Exit and Re-Enter Saudi from Bahrain/Kuwait/Jordan/UAE

Maximum Possible Extension: 1Month + 3 Months

Difficulty Level: Hard

Cost of Visa Extension: ~ SAR 400 per Passport (1 month Bahrain/UAE Visa + Trip to UAE/Bahrain + Vehicle insurance Charges at Border)

The cons of Solution 1 and 2 is that it can be availed only once after a 3 month period stay in Saudi, for a longer term solution, You can Exit and Re Enter Saudi as below

1- Get a Visa to Bahrain or UAE or Jordan or Kuwait or any other country 2- Visit Bahrain, UAE, Jordan or Kuwait. 3- Re Enter back to Saudi Arabia

Because you exited Saudi Arabia and Re Entered, the stay period will be reset and you can stay 3 more months.

Before your UAE/Bahrain Visa Expires, Visit UAE/Bahrain again and re-enter Saudi. This way you will get 1 more month extension making it a total of 4 Months Extension

Solution 4 – New Visa Stamping and Re-Enter Saudi

Maximum Possible Extension: 1 Year 3 Months

Cost of Visa Extension: ~ SAR 1200 per Passport (Visa Stamping Cost + 1 month Bahrain/UAE Visa + Trip to UAE/Bahrain + Vehicle insurance Charges at Border)

You can use this method if your Saudi Visa on passport is going to expire very soon or is already expired.

Here is the brief workflow

• Apply and Obtain New Saudi Family Visit Visa . Choose the Stamping destination as MANAMA or DUBAI
• Apply and Obtain Tourist visa for UAE or BAHRAIN
• Obtain Return Tickets and Visit UAE/BAHRAIN on a Tourist visa
• Schedule and appointment with VFS Dubai or Do it through an agent and get your Visa Stamped there.
• Once the Visa is Stamped, Return back to Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia sets deadline for Umrah pilgrims to depart kingdom

Umrah visa duration will not be extended beyond 90-day period and cannot be converted

Dubai: The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in Saudi Arabia has announced that Dhul Qadah 29, 1445 (June 6), will be the final day for Umrah pilgrims to leave the Kingdom, as part of the preparations for the upcoming Hajj season.

The ministry stated that the Umrah visa for foreign pilgrims has a validity of 90 days from the date of entry into Saudi Arabia.

The clarification came in response to numerous inquiries received through the ministry’s “Beneficiary Care” account on the X social media platform.

The announcement follows earlier reports that stated Dhul Qadah 15, 1445, as the last date for Umrah visa holders to enter Saudi Arabia this year. Additionally, it was clarified that the visa’s validity extends for three months from the date of issuance, not from the date of entry.

The ministry further emphasised that the Umrah visa duration will not be extended beyond the 90-day period and cannot be converted into another type of visa.

Applications for Umrah visas can be made through the approved electronic platforms for Umrah services, accessible at https://nusuk.sa/ar/partners.

This measure is intended to ensure the orderly and efficient flow of pilgrims to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina for the annual Hajj pilgrimage, drawing visitors from around the globe.

How to pay visit visa extension fee in Saudi Arabia?

Every family visit visa holder needs to pay the visit visa extension fee to extend the visa. Here is the process to pay the visit visa extension fee in Saudi Arabia through Al Rajhi Bank and SNB.

• How to extend family visit visa in Saudi Arabia?

Visit visa extension fee

• The family visit visa extension fee is SR 100 for each extension.
• In case you are applying for the extension within 3 days after visa expiry, you need to pay an additional SR 500 fee as a fine.

In order to pay the pay visit visa extension fee through SNB or Al Ahli Bank;

• Download the Application through PlayStore or iTunes.
• Log in to your Internet banking account.
• Click on the “ Menu ” button.
• Select “ SADAD “.
• Click on “ Government Payments “.
• Biller: Alien Control .
• Service: Extend Visitor Visa .
• Select Unregistered .
• Enter the Border number of the family visit visa holder.

The border number is written by hand on the passport of the applicant by the immigration authorities. If you don’t find it, you can check the border number online .

The SNB system will show the amount to be paid for the visit visa extension. Click on the Confirm button to pay for it.

Al Rajhi Bank

In order to pay the pay visit visa extension fee through Al Rajhi Bank;

• Download the Application through PlayStore or iTunes .
• Select “ Payments “.
• Press the “ Government Payment ” button.
• Click on the “ Alien Control “.
• Select Extend Visitor Visa .

On the next screen, you need to;

• Enter the Border Number .

Check the Status of the Payment

• Unfortunately, you cannot check the status of payment through available funds on the Absher account.
• The only way to if the fee is paid properly is to extend the family visit visa.

If you try to extend the family visit visa without paying the fee, the following message appears.

“Sorry!! due to insufficient funds, the visit visa (VV) cannot be extended. Please deposit sufficient funds to proceed with the VV extension.”

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has made important changes to Umrah visas for the Hajj 2024 season. The visa validity period now starts from Dhul Qadah 15 instead of Dhul Qadah 29, which helps make pilgrimages smoother. Umrah pilgrims must leave before Dhul Qadah 15, a change that’s two weeks earlier than before, making the pilgrimage process easier for those visiting Makkah and Madinah.

A significant change is that Umrah visas are valid for three months from the date they’re issued, not from when people enter Saudi Arabia. This change is part of the Ministry’s collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to improve the overall pilgrimage experience.
