How to fill Form 80

Visa application processes would invariably involve filling out forms. It is therefore essential to answer all questions completely and frankly. A trivial mistake by various reasons, such as misinterpretation of a question, may affect your visa application with delays, or refusals . It is therefore important that you get it right at the first time!

One of the most common forms by the Department of Home Affairs is Form 80 which requests extensive disclosure of a wide range of personal information, including your family members, employment history, residential and travel records. Unfortunately, this form is quite ambiguous and confusing. We have prepared a guide to help you complete Form 80 as correctly and easily as possible.

Click to download the up-to-date Form 80.

Form 80 Part C – Identity Documents

Question 14

Include all relevant information from any identification or document as required by your country of citizenship, including birth certificates and other identity documents.

Form 80 Part D – Address and contact details

Question 17

It is crucial to list all residences where you have lived in the last ten years, including full address and postcode. You can provide a more general date, such as a month and year if you cannot remember the precise dates of residency for each address. Line spacing on page 19 is available if additional space is required. Be sure to include your question number in the column provided on this page.

Form 80 Part E – International Travel / Movements

Question 18

It’s essential to list all international travel in the past 10 years, including each country visited. If you are unable to remember the exact dates of your previous travel, you can give a more general date instead. The last page (Part T – additional information) can be used if additional space is required. Be sure to include your question number in the column provided on this page.

Form 80 Part F – Employment

Question 19

It is important to list all the employment you have held throughout your life, not just the gaps in your employment history. All self-employment, unpaid volunteer work, and internships must be disclosed.

Any period in which you were not working must also be disclosed, including previous studies and the period between your birth and your first job. In the first “Name of Business/Company” field, enter “NEVER WORKED” if you have never had a job.

Finally, we strongly advise against using abbreviations for the names of the companies you have worked for. If you are unable to recall specific dates from your previous employment, you may give a more general date instead.

Form 80 Part G – Education

Question 20

Details of all ongoing discontinued and completed education must be recorded, including:

  • Vocational schooling
  • Research or thesis
  • Specialist training
  • Trade qualifications

If you are applying for a refugee visa, you must list all your education, including primary and secondary education. You can give months or just years if you are unable to remember the exact dates of your previous education. You can use the lined paper on page 19 if you run out of space.

Form 80 Part H – Proposed Travel or Further Stay

Question 22

Briefly state the purpose of your travel to or continued to stay in Australia. If you are arriving for a specific event or appointment, specify what these are and the date of the event.

Question 25

This question applies only to those applying for a temporary visa within Australia. Briefly state why you want to remain in Australia. This should correspond with the type of visa you are applying for. For example, student visa applicants describe the reason for their stay in relation to their studies.

Form 80 Part K – Character

Question 36

You must answer “yes” to all points under this question that apply to you. For most visa applications, you will be required to provide background checks, meaning any undisclosed criminal records will be discovered by the Department of Home Affairs. Your visa application will be denied if you fill out your Form 80 in a dishonest manner.

Click here for Australian Federal Police Checks.

Form 80 Part L – Military Service

Question 37

Conscription and other mandatory military services must be disclosed, along with any other types of military service. The disclosure must be made regardless of the duration of your service, whether or not you were deployed, or the branch of service.

“Country of deployment” refers to actual military deployment. If you have served on active duty, you must list the countries in which you have served.

Form 80 Part Q – Associated People

All relevant associated persons are required to be disclosed for each question under this part. You must provide as much information about each person as you are aware of.

If you know their year of birth and not the full date, fill in the day and month as “1 January.” Line spacing on page 19 is available if additional space is required. Be sure to include your question number in the column provided on this page.

Question 42

In this question, “partner” is interpreted broadly. For the purposes of this question, you must disclose your boyfriend or girlfriend as a “partner.” If widowed, you must provide details about your deceased partner.

Question 46

If there are any family members making a combined visa application with you, your answer to this question should include their details. Only family members included in your visa application should be disclosed.

If you are travelling as part of a larger group, you do not need to disclose in this question if members of your group are applying for visas individually.

Question 47

There is no obligation to have a “personal contact” in Australia, but if you have a personal contact in Australia, it is important to provide as much information as possible.

If you are applying for a family visa, you should list your sponsor as your personal contact.

Form 80 Part S – Declaration

Question 53

The completed Form 80 must be signed by the visa applicant. Digital signatures are generally accepted in practice. It is usually preferable to provide a physical signature if possible.

By signing this declaration, you declare that the information provided on Form 80 is accurate. Again, providing a misleading or false Form 80 may result in visa denial and serious consequences for future visa applications.

Hello Peng, I applied for student visa 500 after my 485 expired. This time I included my offshore partner in my application as accompanying dependant. After 8 weeks, CO officer requested form 80 and an updated oshc certificate. I want to ask why is the form 80 important? Also, how long will it take to get visa grant after the requested documents have been submitted. Thanks

Hi James, I applied for student visa 500 after my 485 expired. This time I included my offshore partner in my application as accompanying dependant. After 8 weeks, CO officer requested form 80 and an updated oshc certificate. I want to ask why is the form 80 important? This is a common form for a case officer to ask for. Also, how long will it take to get visa grant after the requested documents have been submitted. Thanks Generally a few weeks.

James · October 25, 2019 at 7:56 pm

hi Peng, visa got approved a week after additional documents were submitted. it took 9 weeks to get the visa grant for both myself and that of my offshore partner. thanks

My Access Australia · October 31, 2019 at 10:34 am

Hi James, Congratulations to you and your partner! I hope that everything goes well with settlement! Thank you also for letting us know about your processing time.

Moon · August 29, 2019 at 11:12 pm

I am filling form 80, Q36 asking have you overstayed a visa in any country ? i am confused , tick YES or NO, as i was holding student visa, i know i have grace period, after that another student visa extension was granted. So in this case, I am wondering i choose to tick “NO” meaning i am not overstayed in Australia. Is it right ? many thanks.

My Access Australia · August 31, 2019 at 12:58 pm

Hi Moon, If you were unlawfully in Australia before because your visa expired, then you have an overstay period – even if you were later granted another visa.

Irina · August 26, 2019 at 1:56 am

Hi Peng, We want to apply for 489 visa. We are struggling with the following question in form 80: ARE YOU APPLYING FOR A TEMPORARY VISA? 489 is not permanent. It is provisional. but after ticking YES – we must provide details of proposed final departure from AU. but actually we want to stay as permanent residents! )

My Access Australia · August 31, 2019 at 12:45 pm

Hi Irina, You can skip that question in Form 80. PC

Emily · August 14, 2019 at 2:07 pm

I recently answered ‘will return back to my home country after I finish studying’ for the question: what is your main reason to stay in Australia? in form 80 for my extended student visa. I have been granted with the extended one. However, now that I want to apply for my temporary resident visa, should I answer ‘to work and live in Australia’ or not? because that might contradict with my answer in the previous form 80, or should I write ‘to gain actual work experiences’?

My Access Australia · August 17, 2019 at 3:38 pm

Hi Emily, Sorry but I can’t answer such a broad question about your intentions just based on your comment information. Please see Contact Us page and in relation to our Consultation Service – feel free to contact us if you need advice in relation to your visa options.

Roberto Jr · August 11, 2019 at 5:28 pm

Hi Peng, I am about to lodge 489 Regional sponsored Visa, my wife and my 6 year old son will be included as my dependents. My question is regarding Form 80, and 1221, does my wife also need to fill these forms as well, or only me? Thank you very much!

My Access Australia · August 17, 2019 at 3:27 pm

Hi Roberto, For all applicants over 18, whether a Form 80 is required is at your case officer’s discretion. You can complete this in advance if you wish, if you want to avoid the possibility of having to respond to a Department request for such a form, which would delay the finalisation of your application.

Sab · July 3, 2019 at 5:40 pm

HI Peng, I am filling form 80. When initially I granted my PR I did not mention about my adopted siblings, I just named my biological siblings in the form however, now in form 80, there is a section which you need to add your half or adopted siblings. If I add them now would it be a problem as i did not mentioned them originally?

My Access Australia · July 11, 2019 at 8:13 pm

Hi Sab, That is fine since Form 80 has different questions to visa application forms. PC

Pom · June 25, 2019 at 11:00 pm

Hi Peng I am on 457 visa and now I want to apply for 186 visa. At the lodgment of 457 visa I did not disclose my degree study. Now I want to apply for 186 visa, In the form 80 ,Can I disclose my degree study now? Is there will be problem? Can department ask me that why did not you disclose this study before? Please can you reply me, Thanks

My Access Australia · June 27, 2019 at 1:59 pm

Hi Pom, I don’t think it will cause an issue but I would need to look into it. Please see Contact Us page and in relation to our Consultation Service if you would like further assistance.

Diana · June 13, 2019 at 9:57 am

For the 80 form, in Part F they ask for employment history. I have worked both overseas and in Australia. I have work in Australia in my nominated occupation and overseas in jobs not related to my profession. Do I need to include all my employment history on the form or only the jobs related to my profession?

Would I have to attach contracts or payslips from my overseas employers? Will I have to translate these as well even though I am not claiming points for employment?

My Access Australia · June 14, 2019 at 8:01 pm

Hi Diana, You need to include all of your employment history (Australian and overseas). The supporting documents you need to provide will be determined by the visa requirements e.g. work experience requirements for the visa. PC

I was wondering if I’m currently on BVB visa and about to fly offshore to lodge 190 application, when I filling out these two forms, should I answer I’m currently in Australia or not? And also for those related questions?

Thanks. Your advice would be much appreciated 🙂

Peng Cheng · June 1, 2019 at 9:33 pm

Hi Wednesday, You can change that answer in the form after you depart. PC

Tori · June 17, 2019 at 9:02 pm

Hi peng, I am in similar situation with the OP. How do I address the questions about “proposed and booked travel dates…? and the main reason for remaining in Australia?

My Access Australia · June 19, 2019 at 12:38 pm

Dear Tori, If you have any proposed travel dates you can provide these in the relevant section. You can also provide your main reason for staying in Australia in the relevant section, which depends on the visa that you are applying for.

Lily · May 28, 2019 at 9:54 pm

With the form 80 and 1221, I’m a bit confused about how I should answer when it asks “are you currently in australia”?and the following related questions, because I’m currently on BVB and about to leave Australia to lodge 190 due to the 187 was refused and it’s on appeal.

Can you please advice?

Thanks alot !!

Peng Cheng · June 1, 2019 at 9:38 pm

Hi Peng, i applied for student visa class 500. in my immi account there is an Actions required “Complete character assessment information” but i have not received any email about filling form no.80 or form no.1221. what should I do?

Peng Cheng · May 19, 2019 at 9:29 am

Hi Farzaneh, You can complete these forms yourself and upload these to your application, or you can wait and see if the case officer asks for this information – whether these forms are needed is at the discretion of the case officer. PC

CAREN · April 5, 2019 at 10:18 pm

My mum has been visiting Australia at least once a year in past 10 years. With no more stamps on passport , how to fill arrival date and departure date for Q35 in Form 80. We couldn’t remember her past traveling date except her most recent trip. Any suggestion? Thanks.

Peng Cheng · April 15, 2019 at 1:50 pm

Hi Caren, You can use a Form 1359 to obtain this information: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/form-listing/forms/1359.pdf PC

Sean · March 20, 2019 at 11:44 am

Hi Peng, Maybe this is a bit off topic, but i’d sincerely like to have your opinion. I am a primary applicant of 190 visa, while my wife is the secondary. My wife is pregnant, so she cannot finalise her medical exam that includes X-ray. My medical exam has been cleared and provided to Department. Do you think my own application will be processed in further while my wife’s is on hold? We wished that our baby is born as an Australian, which requires at least one of us to be granted PR in advance.

Peng Cheng · March 22, 2019 at 3:32 pm

Hi Sean, Generally speaking the Department will wait until the child is born and then ask for the health examinations for your partner and newborn. PC

Chani · March 19, 2019 at 10:42 am

Hi Peng, I have submitted my form 80 when I apply for the visa. After that, I renewed my passport and submitted changes of details (passport) form. Do I still need to resubmit form 80 with new passport details? Can you please advice? Thanks

Peng Cheng · March 19, 2019 at 11:45 am

Hi Chani, You don’t need to submit a new Form 80 when you get a new passport. PC

Chani · March 19, 2019 at 11:57 am

Thank you so much for your reply. My visa has not granted yet. It still under “application received” status. Form 80 with old passport number won’t be an issue?

Peng Cheng · March 19, 2019 at 8:43 pm

Yes you don’t need a new Form 80 for this. You can use the ‘Update details’ link to update your passport details in your Immiaccount. PC

Thursday Answers – Is Form 80 Necessary Or Can I Just Skip It?

Australian partner visa answers

Is Form 80 Necessary Or Can I Just Skip It?

Last updated: 19 September 2022

Thursday Answers are a response to questions submitted by readers on our regular Ask Mondays posts.

Every Monday I ask people to send in their questions and concerns and I select one to answer. In doing this, I hope you will see that a) you’re not alone in this, b) there are no stupid questions and c) we’re all here to help!

This is a question that I’m getting with increasing frequency and I know why. I’m going to paraphrase:

“Is Form 80 really necessary? It’s not on the Department checklist anymore and I’m just repeating myself with the other parts of the application.”

Firstly, what is Form 80?

Form 80 officially is called: 80 – Personal particulars for assessment including character assessment and still accessible from the Department’s website.

Although I include a Form 80 with the book so that you get a complete set of all the required documents, it’s always good to check on the Department site for the most up to date version of any forms, not just Form 80.

Anyway, the dreaded Form 80. It’s that really long and tedious form that the applicant aka the foreign partner has to fill in that lays bare their entire life. From where you lived, where you travelled, what you studied and what jobs you had – it’s all there. But wait, you might have noticed that you’ve already dealt with this in the application form or that you’re already including the relevant evidence with your visa application. Certainly, if you followed the book , you should have.

The official stance of the Department is that Form 80 is not necessary anymore for partner visa applications. Form 80 is no longer listed on the checklist of required documents that’s readily available on the Department website .

But this would be too simple of an answer.

You’re here on my site asking very important questions on how to do your Australian partner visa application by yourself, so of course I’m here to explain things with detail and a simple answer will never do.

Buckle up and come with me on the journey as I explain why Form 80 is still a necessary form to your Australian partner visa application.

Form 80 is generally required for a lot of permanent visas so that the Australian government can really investigate as to whether the applicant is a good person to let into the country. We’re talking permanent residency (which can turn into citizenship) so of course the Australian government wants to be thorough in their checks. The primary use of Form 80 is to determine where the applicant has been and where the Department or case officer should request police checks from i.e. for character purposes.

Nowadays I’m seeing Form 80 being requested by the case officer in temporary visa applications, even though Form 80 was not listed as a required document. Now we all know what that means when a case officer requests more information; it means delays in processing!

So let’s look at this in relation to the partner visa. The partner visa application is a 2-in-1 application: both a temporary and a permanent visa application at the same time.

We know Form 80 is generally required for permanent visas and we know that increasingly Form 80 is being requested for temporary visas.

This leads us to the conclusion that YES I still recommend including Form 80 in your applications because chances of it being requested later on are still very high. By that time, your visa application would have been processing for what seems like years and now you have to fill in a really long form within a short space of time and hope to get it back to the case officer to finalise the case. But by the time you remember everything and have Form 80 filled out it’s already too late, the case officer has other cases and your case goes back into his/her queue and won’t be dealt with for another month or so. FAIL.

So what is my advice? You’ve already done the work and you already gathered the information to answer everything in Form 80, so why risk delays by not filling it in and submitting it with your partner visa application?

Unfortunately, there are no shortcuts in Australian partner visa applications (except for the ones I’ve written about here ). I know it’s a long form and it’s a lot of repetition but you’re about to move your partner to Australia to join you and start building your new life together, don’t let Form 80 stand in the way of it.

That concludes this week’s Thursday Answers.

Until next time,

P.S Don’t forget to send me your questions! Use the contact form here or send us an email.

P.P.S I talk more about Form 80 in the book and how to answer some of the tricky questions such as explaining gaps or which addresses are considered the addresses you need to list in the form. I also show you samples and examples of statutory declarations that incorporate crucial answers to Form 80 questions.

Hi, would the form 80 necessary for the sponsor as well or the police check should be enough for character assessment for the sponsor? I appreciate your post by the way, very helpful!

What is a Form 80?

A Form 80 is a Character Assessment Form that’s required for many different visa categories – it’s not specific to Partner Visas. It’s also not a mandatory form, which means you can technically lodge your Partner Visa without providing it, but I always recommend applicants complete this form as part of the forms for their partner visa application.

The most recent version of the Form 80 can be found on the Department of Home Affairs website by searching “Form 80” under the  Departmental Forms  section

Why provide a Form 80?

Why? Because I’ve seen time and time again the Department requesting it. You’re already compiling information for your partner visa application so if you want to provide a decision ready application, then I would recommend completing the Form 80. You will probably save yourself time down the line and reduce the likelihood of a decision maker requesting it.

Who needs to provide a Form 80?

The Applicant (person applying for the visa) needs to provide a Form 80. Interestingly, I have seen a couple of cases where the decision maker requests a Sponsor to also complete a Form 80, but 99% of the time, it’s the Applicant.

Common Mistakes people make when completing the Form 80

If you’ve taken a quick look at the Form 80, then you’ll know the Department wants a lot of information… like A LOT of information. It can feel overwhelming providing all of the information they are requesting but if you take it a step at a time then you’ll get through it.

Here are some of the questions on the Form 80 that I see people making the most number of mistakes on:

Question 17

Question 17 asks you to list your address history for the last 10 years. It’s important here that there are no gaps in your address history! Oftentimes an applicant will provide either just their current address or their main addresses with gaps in between dates.

Gaps in the Form 80 are a huge no no and you risk slowing down your application if the decision maker isn’t satisfied that you’ve completed the form properly.

It’s okay to be unsure of exact dates. If you’re not sure which month you moved into a certain address then provide ‘January’ as the default date. You can then provide an explanation with the Form 80 that you may not recall the exact dates for each address.

Question 18

Read this question carefully. This question is asking if you have travelled to any country other than Australia in the last 10 years.

One of the common mistakes I see here is the applicant listing travels and holidays to Australia as well.

Question 19

Without fail, most mistakes are made at question 19. The Department is asking for not only your employment history, but that includes periods of unemployment. Oftentimes I will review a Form 80 and there will be large gaps in employment. It’s okay if you have had periods of unemployment, but you need to disclose it.

If you read question 19 in full, the Department wants you to start with employment/unemployment details since birth! This means from birth to your first period of employment, you will need to list ‘unemployed’ and explain how you supported yourself during this period.

Question 48

This question stumps a lot of people – especially if they have a large network of people inside Australia. For the purposes of the Form 80, you only need to provide details of one other person contact in Australia (even if you know 100).

Keep these 5 factors in mind when completing the Form 80

  • Read each question very carefully. You may not need to answer every single question on this form (depending on your circumstances). Some questions require information from certain time periods. For example, you should be providing travel details for the last 10 years, and employment details since birth. Be clear on what the question is asking of you.
  • No gaps. There should be no gaps in the information you provide. If there is a gap, then an explanation should be provided.
  • Use Part T of the Form 80 to provide additional information. You may need more space to complete the form than what some of the questions offer. If that’s the case, use Part T to add the additional information. Otherwise, you can also create your own ‘annexure’ to the Form 80 and attach it.
  • Quality Check. This means double and triple checking the information you provide on the Form 80. Make sure you have completed all relevant questions and sections. Once that’s done, cross check the Form 80 against any other forms you are providing in support of your partner visa.
  • Don’t forget to sign the Form 80. An electronic signature will suffice, saving you from printing and signing the Form 80.

When its comes to forms, the Form 80 is just one of a number of different forms you may need to know about if you are lodging a Partner Visa. To find out about the other forms needed then check out my guide to getting the forms right

what is form 80 australia ? how to fill form 80, Guide Application Process

Are you preparing to travel to Australia for an exciting adventure? One thing is for sure, whether you are travelling to Australia for employment, education, or just to explore, the process of applying for a visa is an important one that has the power to make or break your plans. Form 80 is one of the most extensive and, at times, confusing of the many forms you will come across. We’ll walk you through every step of Form 80 in this educational guide, providing insightful advice to help you fill it out correctly and quickly. If you want to go for study visa 485 . Here is the complete guidelines

Section 1: Form 80 Introduction

Form 80, provided by Australia’s Department of Home Affairs, is an important one to fill out during the visa application process. This form requests detailed disclosure of personal information, such as information about your family, career history, residence addresses, overseas travels, and more. The complexity and ambiguity of Form 80, on the other hand, can be daunting. So, let’s take it one step at a time.

Form 80 Part A – Applicant Information

The journey through Form 80 begins with Part A, where you enter important personal information. It is essential to easily transition from one topic to the next, and the key is to understand the intricacies of each question. For example, Question 2 is about people of Chinese heritage who have given their names in Chinese Telegraphic Code. If none of this applies to you, a simple “No” suffices.

Section 3: Identity Documents and Form 80 Part C

You’ll dig into your identity documents in Part C. Even though Question 14 seems simple, it’s important to provide all pertinent details from any identity document that your nation of citizenship requires. It is important to keep in mind birth certificates and other identifying documents.

Section 4: Address and Contact Information for Form 80 Part D

In Part D, your residential history is examined. Answer to Question 17: Please mention every place you have lived in the past ten years. If you have trouble remembering specific dates, don’t worry; rough months and years will do the trick. Additionally, if you require additional space to offer detailed information, utilize the lined paper on page 19.

Section 5: International Travel/Movements under Form 80 Part E

Your past ten years of international travel are the subject of Part E. You must name every country you visited during this period in response to Question 18. You can use approximations of dates if you are unable to recall exact ones. Recall that you can use the final page, Part T, which is designated for additional information, if you need more room.

Section 6: Employment under Form 80 Part F

A crucial component of your application is your employment history. Answer to Part F, Question 19 requires you to mention every job you have ever had. This covers working for yourself, volunteering, internships, and even times when you’re unemployed. When referring to firm names, never use acronyms. If you are unable to find precise dates, give approximate ones.

Section 7: Education in Form 80 Part G

Part G explores your educational history. Question 20 requires information on all finished, discontinued, and ongoing education, including specialized training, college, university, and vocational schools. Just like with employment, if you have trouble remembering certain dates, you can utilize months or years.

Section 8: Proposed Travel or Extended Stay under Form 80 Part H

Clarity is essential when determining the reason for your trip and/or extended stay in Australia. In Question 22, you are asked to provide a brief explanation of your aims. Remember to provide any specific information if you have an event or appointment scheduled.

Section 9: Character in Form 80 Part K

A crucial component of your visa application is character evaluation. You have to select “yes” for each of the questions in Part K, Question 36, that relate to you. Since background checks will reveal any unreported criminal records, honesty is crucial in this situation.

Section 10: Military Service under Form 80 Part L

Any voluntary or required military service must be stated in Part L, Question 37. If you have served in any nations while on active military, include all pertinent information.

Section 11: Associated People – Form 80 Part Q

In Part Q, you are required to furnish details on individuals who are connected to your application. Even if all you know is the year, make sure you add as much information as you can.

Section 12: Form 80 Part S Declaration

The final section of Form 80 leads to the declaration found in Question 53, Part S. Your signature confirms that the data you have provided is accurate. Lying on Form 80 can have serious consequences for future applications and lead to the denial of a visa.

Section 13: Seeking Expert Guidance

Although Form 80 must be accurately completed, it is only one step in the longer process of applying for a visa. It is advisable to obtain expert guidance from an experienced migration counsel if you find the process intimidating or complex. Their knowledge can guarantee that you’re headed in the right direction and increase the likelihood that your visa application will be granted.

In summary, Form 80 is an essential part of your visa application for Australia. You may fill out this form confidently if you adhere to our instructions and comprehend the subtleties of each part. Recall that your greatest allies on this road will be honesty and meticulousness. Happy travels!

FAQ 1: What is Form 80 and why is it necessary for my application for a visa to Australia?

Australia’s Department of Home Affairs issues a detailed form called Form 80. It is necessary for your visa application since it calls for comprehensive personal data, such as employment history, family history, residence addresses, and records of your foreign trip. Filling out Form 80 correctly is essential since errors or omissions could cause delays or possibly result in the denial of a visa.

FAQ 2: Should I still respond to Question 2 on Form 80 even though I’m not of Chinese descent?

No, Form 80’s Question 2 only relates to people of Chinese heritage whose names have been registered under the Chinese Telegraphic Code. You can just select “No” for this question and continue filling out the remainder of the form if you don’t think this applies to you.

FAQ 3: What should I do in Form 80 if I can’t recall the precise dates of my past residences or trips abroad?

You can give approximate months and years if you are unable to remember exact dates. In this sense, flexibility is permitted under Form 80. In addition, you can utilize the lined paper on page 19 if you need more room to include detailed information.

FAQ 4: Do I have to include all of my career history, including internships and unpaid time off, on Form 80?

Yes, it’s crucial to include all of your job experiences, including volunteer work, internships, self-employment, and even times when you were unemployed. To guarantee accuracy on your visa application, be sure to thoroughly document your work history.

FAQ 5: What are the repercussions of giving inaccurate information, and why is character assessment in Form 80 so important?

Because the Department of Home Affairs performs background investigations that may uncover any unreported criminal history, character assessment in Form 80 is essential. Your visa application may be denied if you provide inaccurate or misleading information on Form 80, and this could have a negative impact on your future visa applications. In this part, being honest is crucial.

Form 80 Australia- Do I need to complete it for my partner visa application?

Form 80 (Personal particulars for assessment including character assessment) is part of the character assessment undertaken for permanent visa applicants. It is a comprehensive questionnaire used by the Australian Department of Home Affairs for visa applicants. The purpose of Form 80 is to gather information about your personal background, including details about your employment history, education, travel history, and character. It helps the Department assess your suitability for a visa and determine whether you meet the character requirements set out in the migration regulations. You don’t need to attach it to your application immediately but you will want to upload it before a Case Officer picks up your file.

In any case, it is highly recommended that your partner visa application be as decision ready as possible. By submitting Form 80 in when you lodge your application you will avoid potential delays down the track.

The idea is to provide your Case Officer with as much information as possible when you lodge so that your application is held up. From a procedural fairness point of view, the Case Officer will ask you to provide more information and will put your application aside until your response is received – you will no longer be on top of the pile.

There can be advantages to completing and submitting Form 80 in advance. When filling out your Partner visa application, you will already have gathered most of the information need to complete Form 80. You will need extra patience though, as completing the form will probably take at least a few hours.

The Department has placed significant importance on character assessment in the last few years. The best strategy to avoid delays caused by the unexpected is to think ahead.

Once you have completed your Form 80, upload it to your immi account.

Form 80 international travel question doubt

Hi all, I'm currently filling form 80 for my 189 visa application. My agent has told not to include own country visits in question 18 about International travel as it is a place of usual residence. However, the form does mention to include own country visits. Wanted a confirmation of what is correct. Question 18 . Have you travelled to any country other than Australia in the last 10 years? Note: If you are applying for a refugee/humanitarian visa, you must provide all visits to any country other than Australia for the last 30 years. Include: • work or study outside your usual country of residence • holiday/leisure trips • business • military deployment • visits back to your own country

yes they're registered. they have office in both India and Australia. I'm asking this because I've been working out of India (in the UAE) since 2015, and would visit India to see family once or twice a year. So shouldn't those visits come under 'own country visit'? As I'm not living in India, but in UAE?

why are you travelling to australia form 80 answer

  • If your Usual country of residence is India, don't mention it
  • If your Usual country of residence is not India, do mention all visits and your stay until you left India.

why are you travelling to australia form 80 answer

As Im not currently in my own country. I included my visits there in the form 80 and marks as "visit own country", as reason. You haveto put all travel including your own country if your not currently residing their. Your agent should know this.

That's exactly what I thought. I am working in UAE since 2015 and visit family some times in India. So my usual place of residence is UAE not India.

Many people don't know the exact dates given the uncertainty for some types of applicants on the turnaround of the visa grant. Question 24 is evident of that. What type of visa is she applying for? If it is a visitor/ tourist visa for a year, for example, I would think indicating the months of the visits or approximate frequency are fine with a brief explanation that work schedule as flight attendant/pilot will dictate dates.

We're applying for 309/100. How would she fill this question out if she's not sure when she'll be visiting Australia again?

Sorry if I've misunderstood the conversation but with question 20 (Part G - Education) it asks you to write down all tertiary education. Tertiary means third (primary, secondary, tertiary) so it means all education done after leaving high school (university, vocational school, college, trade certificates) So according to the form, you shouldn't be entering kindergarten, primary school, middle school, high school etc. Education since birth, as it says, only applies to humanitarian or refugee related visas.

Lodging 189 visa - question regarding declaring overstay Hello Members, This is Shashi kanth, i have received an invitation to apply for subclass 189 visa. I have a question for which i need your suggestion as way forward to lodge my application. To Start with, am an indian citizen working in Uganda (lodging my application from Uganda). I was transferred to Uganda in Feb 2015 (my employer is based in India and I have been working with same employer since Oct 2013 till present) and i entered the country on visiting visa valid for 30days. As soon as i landed in Uganda, my employer has applied for the work permit and obtained the same with validity from 17 March 2015 for 24 months. In this process i haveoverstayed for 10days (i.e., from 07 march 2016 to 16 March 2016) and my passport was with the immigration authorities as part of workpermit processing. Later, i moved in and out of Uganda twice on holiday (ofcourse after obtaining work permit) i was never questioned about this nor detained and was never asked to pay the penalties for overstay. Also, I have applied for PCC which i should be getting upcoming week. My question is " If I declare this as overstay, will this effect my chances of getting visa grant and if required what sort of additional information might the case officer ask for?" I request you to please suggest me what could be done so as to get the positive outcome. Thanks in advance.
