These wines and more are available for tasting year-round and all tastings are complimentary and free of charge!

Rooster Hill Vineyards – After leaving their careers in Southern California, Amy and David Hoffman came to Keuka Lake to plant the Savina Estate Vineyard in 2002, yielding its first winemaking fruit in 2004. Amy and David have created Rooster Hill winery, quite literally nestled among the vines on the east side of Keuka Lake, with the winery’s interior ambience bringing a taste of Tuscany to the area.

Vineyard View Winery – Adam Foltz is a fifth generation grape grower but he didn't find his passion for winemaking until he found himself in Texas, thanks to his service in the Air Force, where he met a couple who owned a small winery. Foltz started created a plan for his own winery in 2010, putting the plan to action and tells the familiar story guests to the region will discover that a hardworking man had a plan, planted a vineyard, crushed and sorted grapes year over year to prove that hard work really does make amazing wine. Stop in to the tasting room to learn all the best grape growing practices, from a family that knows it well, can share while you sip on their tasty wines.

Weis Vineyards - Born in Zell Mosel, Germany, Winemaker Hans Peter Weis traveled to the United States on a quest to pursue his passion and discover the world. However, his travels were cut short when he stumbled upon his home away from home in the Finger Lakes region of New York. Terroir is the name of the game in this particular winery’s circumstance. What is terroir? A set of environmental factors that add up to a wine’s smell and taste. Finding the minerality of the soil and climate similar to that of home in Germany, Peter is able to pursue his passion of handcrafting traditional German style wines for Finger Lakes locals and guests alike to enjoy!

6 Best Keuka Lake Wineries (2024 Wine Tasting Guide)

Keuka Lake Vineyard

If you’re a wine lover planning a trip to the Finger Lakes region of New York, a visit to Keuka Lake wineries is a must. And in this guide, I’m uncorking all the details you need.

This small lake has had a big impact on the U.S. wine industry. And it’s built a reputation as one of the top cool-climate wine-growing regions in North America.

Now, with 20 wineries to choose from (not to mention 100+ others in the surrounding Finger Lakes), it can be hard to pinpoint the absolute must-visits.

As an American Wine Expert and WSET-certified wine blogger, I’ve personally done the research for you. I’ve tasted my way through the region and hand-picked this short list of the best Keuka Lake wineries.

So, let’s dive in and start planning your unforgettable wine tasting adventure!

The Best Keuka Lake Wineries

1. dr. konstantin frank winery.

Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery entrance walkway

A visit to Keuka Lake wineries isn’t complete without stopping by Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery .

Known as the “Father of Vinifera,” Dr. Frank had a passion for wine from a young age. In 1951, armed with a Ph.D. in viticulture and a wealth of experience, he immigrated from the Ukraine to the U.S.

Despite being told that Vitis vinifera varieties could not be grown in the Finger Lakes, Dr. Frank persisted. And in 1957, he planted the first successful vinifera vines in the Eastern United States.

The following year, he purchased 188 acres on the west side of Keuka Lake. And by 1962, he founded Vinifera Wine Cellars (now Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery). Since then, his award-winning wines have been served at the White House and even to the Queen of England!

After Dr. Frank’s passing in 1985, the winery has been passed down through four generations. Their vineyards are split between Keuka and Seneca. Keuka brings a mineral style to Riesling and elegant reds. Seneca offers more warmth for ripening grapes like Grüner Veltliner and Pinot Noir.

They use French oak barrels and also experiment with clay amphoras and skin-contact whites.

Wines to Try

Dr. Konstantin Frank wines are stunning. The Rieslings are of course fantastic. But I also loved the sparkling Brut Rosé with its delicious aromas of brioche and red berries.

And they’re making some impressive reds, too. If you like Bordeaux-style wines, don’t miss the Meritage blend.

Make a reservation at their tasting room for a seated experience guided by knowledgeable wine educators. I recommend getting the cheese and charcuterie board to pair with your wines.

Or for a deeper dive, they also offer the educational (and tasty!) 1886 food and wine experience. And check out Eugenia’s Garden for a more casual option — sip wine, enjoy the view, and unwind.

2. Weis Vineyards

Weis Vineyards tasting room

Nestled on Keuka Lake’s east side, Weis Vineyards is a newer gem. But it’s already making waves, being named New York State’s Winery of the Year in 2022.

Hans Peter grew up in his family’s vineyard and winery in Mosel, Germany. After formally studying winemaking and a stint in Sonoma , he found himself in the Finger Lakes. And that’s where he met his wife, Ashlee, a Hammondsport native.

In 2016, the two founded Weis Vineyards. And the tasting room opened its doors in the spring of 2017. They’ve since graduated from the one-room schoolhouse to a breathtaking space overlooking the lake.

While they have a small estate vineyard planted in 2020, they mainly source grapes from other Finger Lakes growers.

Weis Vineyards tasting room bar

Weis makes excellent Rieslings in a variety of styles, from bone dry to sweet wines. The Grüner Veltliner was also one of the best I had in the Finger Lakes, with mouthwatering acidity and crisp lemon-lime flavors.

For red wine lovers, don’t miss the delicious Cabernet Franc, with beautiful cherry and cranberry notes. And try the Blaufränkisch, with its smooth red berries and a touch of spice.

When you visit, you can enjoy a tasting in the rustic but elegant barn space. Their knowledgeable tasting room staff will guide you through the experience.

Or grab a glass or flight and relax outdoors at the picnic tables overlooking the lake. All seating is first come, first served, as they don’t take reservations.

Need a nibble? Their retail shop offers local cheeses, crackers, and snack packs. And keep an eye on the calendar for special events, including Thursday summer happy hours with wine, beer, food, and live music.

3. Keuka Lake Vineyards

Keuka Lake Vineyard barn tasting room

At the southwestern end of Keuka Lake, you’ll find Keuka Lake Vineyards — a small, family-owned farmstead.

After retiring, Mel and Dorothee Goldman settled in the Finger Lakes in 1997 and purchased a vineyard. What started as selling grapes soon turned into winemaking glory when their trial batch received resounding praise in France.

In 2005, guided by Morten Halgren of Ravines Wine Cellars, they uncorked their inaugural vintage. And adding winemaker Margot Federkiel, hailing from Napa and Anderson Valley, their team was complete.

They now have plantings on 35 acres, many on steep slopes. One is even aptly named “Falling Man” because, well, tractors have been known to take a tumble there!

Fun Fact: The Silvernail Vineyard is the site of the original Gold Seal Wines plantings. This means they have some of the region’s oldest vines, like 150-year-old Concord grapevines and 50-year-old Léon Millot vines.

Keuka Lake Vineyard deck

Keuka Lake Vineyards has exceptional Rieslings. Try the dry Riesling for a more fruit-forward profile. Or the Falling Man Riesling, grown on those dramatic slopes, strikes a beautiful balance with heightened acidity.

Their herbal Vignoles was a standout too. And for something unique, don’t miss trying the old vine Léon Millot. This deeply colored hybrid grape was created in Alsace in 1911.

During the summer, tastings take place in their rustic barn. Or you can grab a glass of wine and head to the small deck with stunning views of the vineyards and lake. For larger groups, call ahead to make sure they can accommodate you.

4. Ravines Wine Cellars

Ravines Wine Cellars tasting room

Founded in 2001 by Morten Hallgren and his chef wife Lisa, Ravines Wine Cellars brings a touch of European magic to the Finger Lakes.

Morten has winemaking roots in Provence, France, and a degree in enology and viticulture. After working his way through Bordeaux and several other parts of the United States, he landed in the Finger Lakes. And in 1998, he became the chief winemaker at Dr. Konstantin Frank before venturing out on his own.

With Ravines Wine Cellars, Morten pioneered the bone-dry, mineral-style Riesling that has become a Finger Lakes favorite. In 2003, he even won Best Dry Riesling in the World Riesling Cup.

With 130 acres of sustainably farmed estate vineyards, Ravines grows all its grapes. They specialize in dry, vinifera wines made with European techniques from regions like Burgundy and Bordeaux. And all of their sparkling wines are made in the traditional Champagne method .

Ravines Wine Cellars outdoor patio

Try the White Springs Riesling for beautiful floral aromas and distinctive minerality. I also thought the Sancerre-style Sauvignon Blanc was stellar too.

And for something unique, check out the sparkling Riesling. Made from nobly rotted grapes, it has a golden color. And it offers lovely honey, orange, and brioche flavors.

Ravines has two tasting rooms in the Finger Lakes. The Keuka Lake location includes a cozy indoor tasting room (reservations required!). Plus, a spacious outdoor patio overlooking the lake.

And if you get a chance to visit the Seneca Lake location near Geneva, don’t miss their food and wine experiences. They were rated one of the top winery kitchens by Food & Wine magazine!

5. McGregor Vineyard

McGregor Vineyard winery

In the 1960s, Bob and Marge McGregor embarked on an adventure to find the perfect vineyard spot. It took some time, but in 1971, they finally snagged 70 acres on Keuka Lake’s east side.

Planting 28 acres, McGregor Vineyard became one of New York State’s early pioneers in Vitis vinifera. And in 1980, they proudly popped the cork on their first vintage. Fast forward to today, and the second generation is carrying the McGregor torch.

Everything at McGregor Vineyard is done by hand, from harvesting the grapes to crafting the wines. They’re all about quality, keeping yields low.

But let’s talk about their claim to fame — Saperavi. This ancient grape from the Republic of Georgia is a rare find in the U.S. McGregor Vineyard was America’s first commercially successful Saperavi producer. This bold red wine ages like a boss, at least 8-10 years and some even longer.

McGregor Vineyard deck

During my visit, I did a comparison tasting of the 2019 Saperavi Reserve vs. the 2017 Grand Reserve, and you could already see the difference. The tannins had smoothed out. And it was developing deep earthy notes, balanced nicely with blackberry and black plum.

Their Cabernet Franc is also delicious, with soft tannins and ripe berry flavors. And I enjoyed their Gewürztraminer — perfumed but not too overpowering as some can be.

When you visit, prepare to be wowed. Their rustic tasting room has spectacular views overlooking scenic Keuka Lake. You’ll be treated to a seated tasting with tasty food pairing bites.

Oh, and don’t forget to book ahead — reservations are recommended. But if you didn’t plan ahead, they’ll do their best to accommodate you.

6. Domaine LeSeurre Winery

Domaine LeSeurre tasting room entrance

Domaine LeSeurre is where French flair meets Finger Lakes fun. Conveniently located next door to Weis Vineyards on the east side of the lake, this winery is the brainchild of Céline and Sébastien LeSeurre.

The two come from French winemaking families. After pursuing wine-related degrees and working in wine regions throughout the world, Céline and Sébastien met in New Zealand. Together, they embarked on a global winemaking adventure before falling in love with the Finger Lakes region.

At Domaine LeSeurre, they source grapes from local growers and age their wines in French oak barrels of varying ages. They’re also dabbling in traditional method sparkling wines, although these are only available through the wine club.

Domaine LeSeurre wine glass

While Domaine LeSeurre makes a variety of wines, I was partial to their red wines. Try the Reserve Special Blend — a delightful mix of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon , and Merlot. I also enjoyed the spicy Lemberger and the light and savory Pinot Noir .

No reservations are needed for standing tastings at the bar. Afterwards, you can relax on their outdoor terrace and enjoy beautiful lake views while sampling their selection of boards, local cheeses, and French gourmet treats.

Or for an elevated tasting, reserve a spot for a wine and food experience. Wine and French macaron pairings? Yes, please!

Where to Stay for Keuka Lake Wine Tasting

Keuka Lake has two main towns: Penn Yan at the northern tip and Hammondsport in the south. Both make excellent base camps for hitting the Keuka wine trail.

Now, if your plan includes exploring wineries on Seneca Lake too, Penn Yan is the way to go. It offers the convenience of being closer to Seneca. And you’ll be near the fantastic Keuka Lake State Park to enjoy hiking, swimming, boating, and fishing.

My top recommendation is the charming Los Gatos Bed and Breakfast . Prepare to be spoiled with their award-winning breakfast and cozy atmosphere. It’s the perfect place for a relaxing stay.

But if Los Gatos is fully booked the Best Western Plus Vineyard Inn & Suites is another great option.

Keuka Lake Wine Region

History of keuka lake wineries.

Keuka Lake may not be the biggest fish in the Finger Lakes pond, but it sure made some waves in American winemaking history!

Way back in the early 1800s, Reverend William W. Bostwick had the bright idea to plant the first vines in Hammondsport. Soon enough, others hopped on the grape train and started growing native varieties like Catawba and Isabella.

Fast forward to the 1860s, and we witness the birth of the Great Western Winery (now known as Pleasant Valley Wine Company). It was the first bonded winery in U.S. And these folks became famous for their award-winning American sparkling wines.

But prohibition hit the scene in the roaring 20s, putting a damper on the party. After the dust settled, a Frenchman named Charles Fournier swooped in. He planted experimental vineyards and introduced French-American hybrid grapes like Léon Millot.

And let’s not forget the creation of Cayuga, a white hybrid grape introduced by Cornell University’s Grapevine Breeding and Genetics Program in 1945.

Our story takes a turn when Charles Fournier hires the legendary Dr. Konstantin Frank. This Ukrainian immigrant made history in 1957 by successfully planting vinifera vines in the region.

Fast forward through the years, and laws started changing, making it easier for wineries to sell directly to us thirsty folks and even open their own tasting rooms. And just like that, more and more wineries began to pop up around Keuka Lake.

The Finger Lakes AVA (American Viticultural Area) became official in 1982. And now they even have their own Keuka Lake Wine Trail .

Today, New York holds the third spot in wine production nationwide. And with 20 wineries calling Keuka Lake home, you better believe they’re producing some top-notch wines.

Keuka Lake Climate and Terroir

Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery vineyard view

When it comes to weather, the Finger Lakes region knows how to keep winemakers on their toes. This cool climate brings all kinds of challenges like rain, snow, and humidity. Growing conditions are unpredictable. So, it’s all about adapting practices based on the vintage.

Now, let’s talk about the lake itself. This Y-shaped beauty was formed by glaciers that came down from Canada. They carved their way through the land, leaving behind a stunning array of soil types. To paint a picture for you, in one row of vines, the soil can change a half-dozen times.

The lake stretches 22 miles long, with widths ranging from half a mile to two miles. And it reaches depths of more than 180 feet, but not as deep as neighboring Seneca Lake . In fact, it occasionally freezes over during winter.

The “lake effect” is what makes grape-growing possible. In spring, the cold water cools the surrounding air and delays budburst. This protects those delicate buds from potential frost damage.

And come fall, the warm water and sun’s reflection extend the growing season, giving the grapes time to ripen.

That means there’s only a narrow band where grapes can thrive along the lake’s shores. And that’s why Keuka Lake’s wine production remains on the smaller side.

All these natural elements come together to create wines with a zippy, acidic backbone and intense aromatics.

Keuka Lake Wines

Keuka Lake wineries, like the rest of the Finger Lakes region, are all about aromatic white wines. Riesling takes the spotlight, often produced in a dry and mineral-driven style.

You’ll also find Gewürztraminer and Grüner Veltliner. But don’t worry, Chardonnay lovers, you’ll find plenty of that too!

When it comes to red wines, Cabernet Franc and Lemberger do best. The latter is also known in Austria as Blaufränkisch and you’ll see it labeled both ways here.

Some winemakers also attempt Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. But they’re tough to grow in this cold, wet climate.

Hybrid grapes like Vignoles and Léon Millot are still common. And if you’re feeling adventurous, a few wineries are producing wines with grape varieties from the Republic of Georgia, like Saperavi and Rkatsiteli.

If you haven’t yet, check out my guide on the best Seneca Lake wineries .

6 Special and Historic Wineries To Visit on Keuka Lake

6 Best Keuka Lake Wineries to Visit for Tastings & History

Keuka Lake may be one of the smaller Finger Lakes, but it has the longest history in winemaking. The first record of successful wine production in Upstate New York comes from William Warner Bostwick, an Episcopal minister who was living in Hammondsport, a small village at the southern end of Keuka. He recorded in 1829 that he was beginning to cultivate Vitis labrusca, the fox grape, which is the source of many native cultivars like Catawba, Concord, and Niagara, for the production of wine. Since that moment, Keuka Lake has been one of the major forces in setting trends not just for the Finger Lakes, but for the United States as a whole.

Today, we’re covering 6 of the top wineries worth visiting on Keuka Lake for their history, unique experiences, and exceptional wine. These wineries can be accessed easily in a self-guided fashion by renting a car , offering beautiful views along the way. You can browse some of the current top deals on hotels in the area here.

Alternatively, Crush Beer & Wine Tours offers a guided wine tasting day trip to Keuka Lake . This is a grape (yes, we said it) way to explore the region from a local’s perspective. In addition, they offer hotel pickup/drop-off and the option to include lunch between visits to 4 different wineries.

Now, on to some of our favorite historic wineries to explore around Keuka Lake:

Top Wineries to Visit on Keuka Lake

Pleasant Valley Winery on Finger Lake's Keuka Lake - New York State | Winetraveler.com

Pleasant Valley Wine Company

Begin your tasting at Pleasant Valley Wine Company . It was one of the first commercial wineries to open in the Finger Lakes and the only one that is still producing wine today. Founded in 1860, Pleasant Valley immediately began producing world-renowned wines using native grapes like Concord, Catawba, and Niagara.

In 1867, something incredible happened to this small, little-known wine company- it won honorable mention at the Exposition Universelle in Paris for its sparkling wine. This was the first time an American sparkling wine had won any European award. In 1873, that same wine was awarded first place for sparkling wine at a competition in Vienna. It was declared to be the “Great Champagne of the Western World.” You may recognize this wine today as Great Western Champagne.

Despite prohibition and several changes in ownership, Pleasant Valley has persisted and continues to make stellar wine on Keuka Lake. You can visit the winery throughout the year and take a tour of the facilities which includes a wine tasting. They also have a visitor center where you can learn more about their history within the region.

While you’re there, we suggest trying their Great Western sparkling, as this is the wine that set them on a path to infamy. We also suggest sampling their Sparkling Rosé, which has a lovely nose of strawberry, melon, and green apple, with a touch of sweetness and bright acidity.

Best Keuka Lake Wineries To Visit in New York's Finger Lakes Region | Dr. Konstantin Frank

Dr. Konstantin Frank

Due to the climate, commercial growers were convinced that European vines could not grow in the Finger Lakes, a myth that was busted by a Ukrainian immigrant named Dr. Konstantin Frank . In 1951, Frank moved to the United States to work for the Cornell University Geneva Experiment station. He began experimenting with growing his own vines; he believed that if European varietals could grow in Ukraine, a much colder region, then they must be able to grow in New York. He grafted the European varietals onto hardy native rootstock and was successfully able to grow them.

In 1962, he opened a winery on Keuka Lake and began producing Riesling , Chardonnay , Pinot Noir , Gewürztraminer , and Cabernet Sauvignon . Now, the winery is named after him and is run by the third and fourth generations of his family, who continue to experiment and innovate.

This winery is a must-do when you’re on Keuka Lake as they offer several experiences. You can visit the tasting room for a standard tasting of their wines, you can book one of their 1886 Room tasting experiences where you’ll try wine and food based around a theme, or you can enjoy wine and cheese on their terrace overlooking the lake.

While you’re there, beyond trying their fantastic traditional method sparkling wine, we suggest trying some of the unique varietals grown on site. The Rkatsiteli has a fascinating nose of pear, citrus, chamomile tea, and fresh green herbs. Its textural feel is balanced by a crisp and light acidity.

Another interesting wine to try is their Saperavi , richly purple in color, the nose is fruit forward with berry and plum, followed by baking spices and smoke. It has surprisingly high acidity and a soft tannin that produces a unique mouthfeel.

Bully Hill Winery

As wineries around the Finger Lakes were attempting to grow European grape varietals in the 1970s, Walter Taylor was stirring up controversy by challenging the increased use of non-local grapes and the lack of transparency in the winemaking process. Taylor, whose grandfather established Taylor Wine Company and was at the time the Executive Vice President of that winery, spoke out against these practices as they occurred in his own family’s company. He was fired and began his own winery under the name Bully Hill Winery. He focused this winery on 100% New York juice, with a focus on producing ‘honest wine.’

Bully Hill’s infamy, however, came when the Coca-Cola Company bought Taylor Wine Company. In order to preserve the brand, Coca-Cola filed a lawsuit arguing that Walter Taylor could not use his last name on any of his products as it violated their trademark. Taylor lost, but the lawsuit solidified Bully Hill in wine history as the honest winery that fought the national brand.

Today, you can visit Bully Hill Winery, do a tasting in their winery, tour the property, eat lunch at their café, and visit their museum.

Looking for more wineries to explore on Keuka Lake?

The New York Farm Winery Act of 1976 was a law set in place to allow grape growers in New York to establish wineries and sell directly to the public. This led to an explosion of new wineries over the next decade, including Keuka Springs Vineyards , which opened in the early 1980s and continues to create award-winning wine in a range of classic and innovative styles. We strongly suggest tasting their reds, which are all unoaked and fantastic.

If you’re looking to end your history tour with something new, check out Weis Vineyards , where they are producing some of the best German-style wines in the region. For a bonus, visit Domaine LeSeurre , located just behind Weis, which will offer a fun comparison as they produce French-style wines.

The weather was great so we took plenty of pictures outside. Very grateful to our guide Garry, he helped us to carry the bottles, told us a lot about wine, vineyards, Finger Lakes, and the towns we were driving through, was very friendly, and even drove us back to our city so we didn't have to take an Uber (we finished with the tour a little faster than was planned). • Haover1952 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Finger lakes wine country in Upstate New York. Having grown up in Upstate New York, I always enjoyed the finger lakes and wine region of New York state. After my daughter graduated from college in the region, I went into the wine country with friends. It was a beautiful day, and the vineyards were offering samples of their wines. So, we drove around Seneca lake stopping at several vineyards along the way. It was as good as any wine country in America. ( And I have been to many).. Just the countryside is worth visiting in the finger lakes region. Making the vineyards a bonus. Summer is the best time to go. ( Though Autumn is also recommended). Most vineyards have great and friendly staff on site. I will continue to visit as possible and convenient!!! Read more Written January 30, 2024

wine tours keuka lake ny

Keuka Lake is much more than just a summer destination. It’s an ideal getaway no matter what time of year. The Keuka Lake Wine Trail highlights family-owned and operated wineries that have been a part of the Finger Lakes Wine Country community for generations. Driving around Keuka Lake takes about an hour, not including stops, making it easy to plan a perfect day of exploring the breathtaking views along the way. We’ve created the perfect Keuka Lake Wine Trail itinerary with stops at the best wineries, restaurants, and a day by the lake.

Where To Stay

Black Sheep Inn - External

Keuka Lake is full of cozy inns, bed & breakfasts, and hotel options so you can experience local Finger Lakes hospitality along the Wine Trail. A few of the beautiful accommodations located around Keuka Lake include the Keuka Lakeside Inn , Adda Trimmer House Bed & Breakfast , 1819 Red Brick Inn B&B , Finger Lakes Bed & Breakfast at Hutton Farm , and the Black Sheep Inn and Spa . If you prefer the hotel life, these are two hotel properties near the Keuka Lake Wine Trail: Best Western PLUS Vineyard Inn & Suites ,  Best Western PLUS Hammondsport Hotel , and the Hampton Inn Penn Yan . Although, the ultimate way to enjoy lake life on the Wine Trail is to rent a vacation home from Finger Lakes Premier Properties .

Itinerary

Day 1: wine time .

The Northeastern tip of Keuka Lake is home to the beautiful Village of Penn Yan where you’ll enjoy great shops, and taverns along the historic 19th-century Main Street. The local breakfast spot not-to-be-missed is the Penn Yan Diner . This train car turned diner serves locally-roasted coffee, amazing biscuits and gravy, and many other from-scratch favorites. Start your day with a home-cooked breakfast at Penn Yan Diner and you won’t regret it!

The other Finger Lakes are long and narrow, but Keuka Lake is uniquely shaped like a “Y”, lending to its “Crooked Lake” nickname. It’s also the only lake in the United States that flows both north and south in direction. After breakfast, take a five-minute walk to the Keuka Lake Outlet which has more than seven miles of scenic trails, perfect for cycling, running, or leisurely walks. Here you can watch as Keuka Lake flows into Seneca Lake.

Start your self-guided wine tour at Keuka Spring Vineyards in Penn Yan, New York. For over two decades, Keuka Spring has been consistently recognized for excellence. Their award-winning wines are handcrafted from vineyard to bottle with one of the best selections of red and white wines in the Finger Lakes.

Keuka Spring

Next, visit Vineyard View Winery in Keuka Park, New York. This fifth-generation grape farm in the heart of the Finger Lakes focuses on creating a great product and atmosphere for you to enjoy. For lunch, you should enjoy some delicious fried chicken from Seneca Farms , and don't forget to save room for one of their delicious homemade ice cream cones!

The final winery stop of the day is Hunt Country Vineyards in Branchport, New York. The Hunt family has been farming west of Keuka Lake in New York’s Finger Lakes region for seven generations. They are committed to responsible farming and caring for the land that has given us so much. Hunt Country Vineyards understands to make great wines, you need clean air, clean water, and healthy soil. By installing award-winning solar and geothermal systems and using mulch and compost. They have reduced fossil fuel use and improved soil health.

Day 2: Museum Day

Start your day at Windmill Farm & Craft Market , open 8 AM - 4:30 PM Saturdays, from April through mid-December. The Windmill is host to over 175 indoor and outdoor shops filled with great food, crafts, fresh produce, coffee, fashion, entertainment, hands-on activities and so much more! Here, you can gather up a delicious meal, shop, and explore before noon! If you’re visiting when The Windmill is closed check out Oak Hill Bulk Foods and the Oak Leaf Café for a quick breakfast.

Today will be spent in the once named Coolest Small Town in America, Hammondsport , New York. The southern tip of Keuka Lake is home to the Village of Hammondsport where you can find a beautiful town square and views of the lake. Here is where you’ll gear up to learn about aircrafts, motorcycles, bicycles, boats, and cars, “Father of Aviation” and “The Fastest Man on Earth” at the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum .

Glenn Curtis

The first stop on today’s wine tour is Weis Vineyards in Hammondsport, New York. Where you’ll find traditional German-style wines. German-born Winemaker Hans Peter Weis traveled to the United States on a quest to pursue his passion and discover the world. He made the Finger Lakes region his home away from home when he realized that the minerality of the soil and climate was similar to that of Germany.

When you’re ready for a lunch break visit the Village Tavern which offers an extensive wine and beer selection. For something casual, yet equally delicious try local favorites Timber Stone Grill  or Burgers and Beer of Hammondsport .

The final winery on the tour is Heron Hill Winery in Hammondsport, New York. Over the course of 40+ years, the winery has become a coveted destination for award-winning wine, music, and events. Journey through the rolling hills and sample wine in one of the most spectacular tasting rooms in the world, named by Travel + Leisure.

Day 3: Lake Day

If you’re visiting when the weather is warm, a water day is essential. There are several beaches for swimming, including the shores at Keuka Lake State Park in Penn Yan and Champlin Beach in Hammondsport.

There is no shortage of lake activities to enjoy at Keuka Lake. Take in the water fun by renting kayaks, jet skis, stand-up paddle boards, and boats at Keuka Watersports . Because of its shallow nature, Keuka is one of the warmer water lakes in the region. The warm waters of Keuka Lake are a fishing haven for yellow perch, bass, and lake trout.

Black Kayakers

Renting boats along the lake is popular and many restaurants located along the lake have docks for boaters to pull up to from the water, tie up, and dine in. Some of the dining options accessible by boat and land are The Switzerland Inn (better known to locals as “The Switz”), not only serves a good selection of casual dishes but also offers a stunning sunset view from its outdoor deck. The Waterfront closer to Hammondsport opens Mid-May and serves dockside. Enjoy their Clammin’ and Jammin’, every Sunday on their dock with freshly steamed clams, live music, and plenty of sunshine.

WELCOME TO KEUKA LAKE VINEYARDS

Sustainability, minimal intervention, and spectacular wine is what drives us at keuka lake vineyards.

Holiday Hours are as follows:

Cultivating Excellence, Vintage by Vintage

In 1992, Mel and Dorothee Goldman’s love for the Finger Lakes led them to fulfill their dream of planting a vineyard on former Taylor Wine Co. land. After retiring in 1997, they focused on growing Riesling and Pinot Noir vines, eventually impressing European critics with their wines.

Today, Keuka Lake Vineyards boasts 40 acres with six varietals, each vintage rooted in their original passion for the Finger Lakes.

In 2023, we were in the first group of New York vineyards to be certified as a New York Sustainable Winegrower.

We are passionately dedicated to protecting and nourishing the Keuka Lake ecosystem, and that passion informs all of our decisions in the vineyard.

Wine Spectator’s Finger Lakes Review

Keuka Lake Vineyards has been quietly putting out some stellar bottlings, led here by the top-scoring, small-production Falling Man Vineyard white. With such impressive offerings, as well as notable values, this winery can now be included among the Finger Lakes’ elite producers.

Elaine Chukan Brown: A return to hybrids

I enjoyed the Keuka Lake, Turkey Run Vineyard Vignoles 2019, grown in the gravels of New York state’s Finger Lakes AVA. It’s beautifully aromatic, with a round palate of orchard and stone fruits mixed through with pithiness, bursting acidity and a silky texture.

America’s Winemaking Past And Future Is Found In The Finger Lakes

On the south east end of Keuka Lake, nestled within homes, a small woodland, and Silvernail Road, where passersby pause for polite conversation, lies a particular vineyard owned by Keuka Lake Vineyards (KLV).
