The Back To Wy Tour Will Feature Songs From Wynonna’s First Two Solo Albums Performed In-Order

Tickets available starting tuesday, august 22 with wynonna fan club presale.

One of Country music’s most legendary voices and truly iconic performers, Wynonna , has announced her upcoming theatre tour, Back To Wy . The tour, produced by Live Nation , will feature the songs off Wynonna’s first two solo albums – Wynonna (1992) and Tell Me Why (1993), performed track by track, front to back, followed by a finale of her other hits along with The Judds classics. The 15-city tour kicks off on Tuesday, October 26 at Murat Theatre at Old National Centre in Indianapolis, IN making stops across the U.S. in San Antonio, Dallas, Louisville and more before wrapping up in Knoxville at Tennessee Theatre on Friday, December 1.

With vast critical acclaim including high endorsement as “the voice of her generation” by Rolling Stone, Wynonna , selling over five-million units, became the highest-selling debut album by a female artist at the time.  Wynonna earned 3 consecutive #1 hits with “She Is His Only Need,” “I Saw The Light,” and “No One Else On Earth.”  A musical force like none other before her, Wynonna followed her wildly successful debut with the multi-platinum disc, Tell Me Why , which produced several hit singles including “Tell Me Why,” “Is It Over Yet,” “Rock Bottom,” and “Girls With Guitars.”

“Getting to share this tour with the fans who have been with me for 40 years, means the world to me. Deep diving into my first two solo albums, “Wynonna” and “Tell Me Why,” track by track, will be a trip down memory lane. As I sit and listen to these two records, I’m flooded with the memories that surrounded that time in my life. The fans held me up and supported me through that season of change in 1992, and I now see “herstory” repeating itself. This music healed me then and is healing me now. The circle of life continues…”

About Wynonna :

With the release of her 1992 self-titled solo debut, Wynonna emerged as a singular force in American music. Beyond the five Grammy Awards, the multi-platinum albums and sold-out tours, the country/soul vocalist built on the Appalachian traditionalism that defined The Judds to create a world where Top 5 dance/club hits were as possible as being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Having practically grown up as America’s favorite musical daughter, Wynonna matured into a woman who embraced how life is filled with peaks and valleys, great thrills, and heavy disappointment. Those realities informed her 5-times platinum Wynonna and nearing 3-times platinum Tell Me Why , the albums that gave voice to every human being emerging into their own adulthood with joy in their heart.

Beyond the groundbreaking music she and her mother created as The Judds, Wynonna has grown into her once-in-a-generation vocal prowess with an ease that made people clamor to her. “No One Else On Earth,” “Tell Me Why,” “She Is His Only Need,” “Girls With Guitars,” and “I Saw The Light” set the next chapter in motion of for the girl from Ashland, Kentucky who became a global superstar.

Wynonna Judd announces her Back to Wy tour. Here’s everything you need to know

Wynonna Judd is returning to the stage to take a trip down memory lane.

The 59-year-old announced on Instagram that she'll be hitting the road this fall for a tour revisiting her first two albums, "Wynonna" and "Tell Me Why."

Judd shared a video on Instagram Aug. 21 sifting through some old music memorabilia, including old outfits and CDs, and revealing that she was calling the new tour "the Back to Wy Tour."

"Getting to share this tour with the fans who have been with me for 40 years, means the world to me," she wrote in her caption, adding that fans in attendance will take a deep dive into her repertoire.

She continued, "As I sit and listen to these two records, I’m flooded with the memories that surrounded that time in my life."

Here's what to know about the upcoming performances.

When and where is Wynonna Judd on tour?

The "Tell Me Why" singer will hit the ground running on Oct. 26, opening her tour in Indianapolis, Indiana. She'll round out the 15-show run with a performance in Knoxville, Tennessee, on Dec. 1.

Along the way, she'll travel to cities in Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Louisiana, Kentucky and North Carolina.

Here's the full list of Judd's tour dates and locations.

How can you score tickets to Wynonna Judd's tour?

Presale tickets for the Wynation Fan Club will start Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 10 a.m. — she didn't specify a time zone — and then will go on sale to the general public on Friday, Aug. 25.

What albums and tracks will she cover while on tour?

Judd says she's "going back to the very beginning of her solo career," focusing on "two words...NUH-STALGIA."

In her Instagram post, the singer said the performances will run through her first two solo albums, "Wynonna," which was released in 1992, as well as 1993's "Tell Me Why."

"This means we get to play the hits, the deep cuts, and everything in between," she said.

Wynonna Judd Announces Nostalgic Back to Wy Solo Tour

"This music healed me then and is healing me now."

The trip down memory lane Wynonna Judd started by embarking on The Judds' Final Tour —a celebration of her late mom and bandmate Naomi Judd — continues this fall with a 15-city jaunt titled Back to Wy.

Per a press release, Wynonna will perform her first two solo albums —1992's Wynonna and 1993's Tell Me Why — track by track and front to back and will follow that with a "finale of her other hits along with The Judds classics."  The two albums contain nine Top 10 singles between them, including consecutive No. 1s "She Is His Only Need," "I Saw the Light" and "No One Else on Earth."

The tour begins Oct. 26 at Murat Theatre at Old National Centre in Indianapolis, Ind. and will wrap up on Dec. 1 at the Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville, Tenn.

"Getting to share this tour with the fans who have been with me for 40 years, means the world to me," Wynonna shared in a press release. "As I sit and listen to these two records, I'm flooded with the memories that surrounded that time in my life. Wynonna Judd Announces ‘Back To Wy’ Tour, Where She’ll Play All The Songs From Her First Two Albums

wynonna judd back to wy tour

Wynonna Judd is hitting the road to sing some of her very first hits.

She just announced her Back to Wy tour, which will feature Wynonna singing all of the songs from her debut album Wynonna (1992) and sophomore record Tell Me Why (1993) track by track, front to back.

The finale will include some of her other biggest hits and The Judd’s classics, and it sounds like it’s going to be a really cool show and with a neat concept that I’ve never really heard of another artist doing quite like this before.

She will cover 15 cities across the country, starting in October at the Murat Theatre at Old National Centre in Indianapolis, Indiana, eventually wrapping up in Knoxville at the Tennessee Theatre on December 1st.

Wynonna says she can’t wait to feel all of the nostalgia with fans through shining a spotlight on the music that helped her start her career, adding that the music healed her back then and is “healing me now”:

“Two words…NUH-STALGIA. I am thrilled to FINALLY announce that I’ll be hitting the road this fall, with the BACK TO WY Tour!!!!

We’re going to travel back to the 90’s, celebrating my start as a solo artist and performing my first TWO albums, ‘Wynonna’ and ‘Tell Me Why,’ top to bottom, back to back, in their entirety! This means we get to play the hits, the deep cuts, and everything in between.

Getting to share this tour with the fans who have been with me for 40 years, means the world to me. Deep diving into my first two solo albums, track by track, will be such a trip down memory lane. As I sit and listen to these two records, I’m flooded with the memories that surrounded that time in my life.

The fans held me up and supported me through a season of change in 1992, and I now see ‘herstory’ repeating itself. This music healed me then, and is healing me now. The circle of life continues…”

Wynonna Judd brings emotion-filled tour to Stephens Auditorium in October

wynonna judd back to wy tour

Wynonna Judd is bound to perform a concert full of emotion when she takes the stage at Stephens Auditorium. There may even be tears at her 7:30 p.m. performance on Oct. 27.

Ames is just the second stop on Judd’s “Back To Wy” tour, which will feature every track from her first two solo albums.

Judd’s self-titled 1992 album was highlighted by “All of That Love From Here,” a favorite song of her mother, Naomi Judd, who died in April 2022. The mother-daughter duo toured and recorded together for years as The Judds.

“My mama taught me how to stand alone/She let me go but she still holds on/And I can still feel all of that love from here” are some of the song’s lyrics that are bound to bring emotion to the surface for Wynonna and her audience alike.

"Getting to share this tour with the fans who have been with me for 40 years, means the world to me,” Judd said in a news release.

Judd will perform songs from “Wynonna” and 1993’s “Tell Me Why” track by track. The appearance will be a trip down memory lane, she said, capped off by some of Judd’s classics.

“As I sit and listen to these two records, I’m flooded with the memories that surrounded that time in my life,” Judd said. “The fans held me up and supported me through that season of change in 1992, and I now see ‘herstory’ repeating itself.

“This music healed me then and is healing me now. The circle of life continues.”

The 15-city tour kicks off Oct. 26 in Indianapolis, Indiana, with the next night's stop in Ames.

“We are so pleased to have been chosen as one of 15 shows on this tour,” Tammy Koolbeck, executive director at Stephens Auditorium said in the release. “To hear her perform her two solo albums in completion on the Stephens stage and with our acoustics will make this night unforgettable for our audience.”

Wynonna Judd has been created with myriad accolades and accomplishments throughout her career. She was called “the voice of her generation” by Rolling Stone magazine and her first solo album sold more than 5 million copies, the highest-selling debut album by a female artist at the time.

Judd had three consecutive No. 1 hits with “She Is His Only Need,” “I Saw The Light” and “No One Else On Earth.” Her second solo album, “Tell Me Why,” went triple-platinum and produced several hit singles including the title song, “Is It Over Yet,” “Rock Bottom” and “Girls With Guitars.”

Wynonna Judd Is Going on Tour! Singer Has 'So Much to Celebrate' as She Takes Solo Albums Back on the Road (Exclusive)

Judd's Back to Wy theater tour will kick off on Oct. 26

wynonna judd back to wy tour

Wynonna Judd is going back on the road — but this time on her own.

On Monday, PEOPLE can exclusively announce that the country singer will be back on the road on Oct. 26 for her Back to Wy theater tour, which will be jam-packed with performances from her first two solo albums.

"I've been on the road since 19 and '83. So you do the math — and touring is one of my absolute favorite things to do," the singer tells PEOPLE exclusively. "Coming out of The Judds tribute tour, for me, it was time to get back to the intimacy again. It's years celebrating not only being in country music for 40 years, but me as a soloist — I have so much to celebrate."

Judd, now 59, released her self-titled debut album in 1992 and followed with Tell Me Why in 1993. This was a pivotal time in her life as she decided to go solo after years of sharing the stage with mom Naomi — who died in April 2022 — as The Judds. Now, she's going back out on her own again.

"[At the time], I was coming out of years on the road with my mom, and I just think back to that period in my life when I was by myself feeling all the feelings that one feels when you move away from home and go to college," she says.

Adding, "You're out on your own and all of a sudden you don't have the comforts of home. I went through that professionally as well as personally."

The singer-songwriter also remembers feeling like it was her "make it or break it moment" — as well as the pressure to carry on the "family name." Now, Judd considers it some of the most "exciting and terrifying" times in her life.

"I think the pressure's off in terms of me feeling like I have to prove myself. I can now enjoy myself," she says. "Back then there was a lot of proving and showing up and having to act like I knew what I was doing, which is the biggest scam on earth."

"Now I don't have that kind of pressure. I don't have that on myself. I just want to enjoy myself and enjoy it with the fans because they're my family. Especially now that Mom is gone, I rely on the fans more than ever," she continues.

The 15-city tour kicks off on Oct. 26 at Murat Theatre at Old National Centre in Indianapolis, Indiana and will wrap on Dec. 1 in Knoxville, Tennessee. She'll play both albums all the way through and will end the night with some Judds classics.

This tour will be an opportunity for Judd to perform songs she's never sung live — and to revisit old hits like "She Is His Only Need."

"You never forget your first No. 1 record. Just like your first job, your first boyfriend you never forget," she says, adding that "All of That Love From Here" will be an emotional performance.

"That song was a personal favorite to my mother," she says. "That will be one of those moments where I'll be probably shedding a tear because that song was for my mom. And now that she's not here, it brings even more emotion."

Pre-sale tickets will be available for purchase for her fan club on Aug. 22, while general sale will begin on Aug. 25.

The final show of the tour will take place on December 1st in Knoxville, Tennessee. Wynonna Judd is celebrating her first two solo albums with a major tour. Judd’s new tour comes on the heels of her extended The Judds: The Final Tour , which she carried on after her mother, Naomi Judd , passed away . Judd first launched her solo career after The Judds disbanded in 1991 amid Naomi’s health challenges, after she was diagnosed with Hepatitis C.

“[At the time], I was coming out of years on the road with my mom, and I just think back to that period in my life when I was by myself feeling all the feelings that one feels when you move away from home and go to college,” Judd tells People . “You’re out on your own and all of a sudden you don’t have the comforts of home. I went through that professionally as well as personally.”

The Back to Wy Tour will perform in theaters in 15 cities across the country, allowing the Country Music Hall of Fame member to have an intimate experience with her fans, something she has been craving.

“I’ve been on the road since 19 and ’83. So you do the math — and touring is one of my absolute favorite things to do,” Judd says. “Coming out of The Judds tribute tour, for me, it was time to get back to the intimacy again. Kentucky native Wynonna Judd to perform national anthem at 150th Kentucky Derby

wynonna judd back to wy tour

Five-time Grammy award-winner and Kentucky native Wynonna Judd will perform the national anthem at Churchill Downs Racetrack during the 150th Kentucky Derby , presented by Woodford Reserve on Saturday, May 4.

“I am so proud to represent my home state, taking part in one of the most storied and iconic traditions,” she said. “The Kentucky Derby is something I look forward to every year and being able to perform this year makes the momentous event even more special.”

The country music icon will help kick off the historic Run for the Roses with her performance of the "Star Spangled Banner" just after 5 p.m. As is tradition, the national anthem at Churchill Downs will be broadcast live as part of NBC's Kentucky Derby coverage, expected to reach millions of viewers worldwide.

Wynonna rose to fame as one-half of “ The Judds ” with her mother Naomi, and the two are recognized as one of the greatest duos in country music history. Born in Ashland, Kentucky, Wynonna earned five Grammy Awards as one half of "The Judds.“ The Kentucky crooner has continued her success as a solo artist, releasing eight studio albums and recently embarked on a nationwide tour called “Back to Wy” to pay tribute to her first two solo albums.

“Wynonna Judd is a multigenerational talent who has helped shape country music over the years, and a Kentucky native, making her the perfect artist to set the stage for this once-in-a-lifetime Kentucky Derby,” Mike Anderson, president of Churchill Downs Racetrack, said in a news release. “We’re excited for Wynonna to bring her powerful voice back to Louisville to convey the wide range of emotion for which this landmark occasion calls.”

Wynonna Judd performs National Anthem at 150th Kentucky Derby for 'full circle moment'

The performance comes days after the two-year anniversary of her mother's death.

As the Kentucky Derby kicked off for its 150th running at Churchill Downs in Louisville on Saturday, Wynonna Judd took to the track for an emotionally charged rendition of the national anthem.

Judd's performance added a poignant layer to this year's event, as it coincides with the second anniversary of her mother, Naomi Judd's passing.

For Wynonna, a Kentucky native, who has long been deeply connected to horse racing, this performance proved to be a tribute to her roots.

"From going to the racetrack as a little girl to now singing the Star-Spangled Banner during this MILESTONE year, it’s such a full circle moment," Judd captioned an April 12 Instagram post .

On May 1, Judd also took to social media to share her excitement for the Kentucky Derby writing, "My favorite horse won’t be @churchilldowns this weekend, but we’re still celebrating in style together! 🤍🐎 (I’m so excited that I’ve been wearing my Derby fascinator around the farm).

Taking the stage at Churchill Downs, her performance not only kicked off the historic 150th Derby but also served as a poignant moment of remembrance and celebration.
