24-year-old neo soul singer Olivia Dean was in Manchester last night performing her Mercury prize-nominated album effortlessly with a voice and style made for the stage.

Fans of the star have watched her go from strength to strength over the past year, from being nominated for three Brits, performing at Coachella and now preparing for this year’s Glastonbury festival.

As someone who frequents gigs like they’re going out of fashion, it’s a bold statement but I think this may be one of the best I’ve ever experienced, and Olivia Dean can only be described being a star.

Before we dive into the performance, it’s only fair to take a minute to shoutout what an incredible venue for music the Albert Hall is. The former Methodist hall projects and echos acoustics perfectly and the raised stage and balcony area mean everyone in the building has a good view.

It’s no surprise that given her recent success the show at the Albert Hall was a complete sell-out, appearing on stage in a stunning floor-length silk dress the sea of fans filled the venue with admiring applause.

90s pop baby tour

With a seven-piece band behind her, the star jumped straight into an atmospheric  UFO before a cheery ‘How are we Manchester?’ and raising a can of Red Stripe. She quickly follows with Ok Love You Bye  – a track that gets the whole crowd singing along and contemplating their past love decisions (maybe that last bit was just me).

The singer seamlessly glided through her set with ease, tambourine in hand, wowing fans with gorgeous melodies and relatable lyrics.

  • Moovin’ Festival 2024 – full line-up announced for Stockport’s much-loved festival as it hits major milestone
  • Manchester’s Barton Aerodrome announces huge line-up of outdoor gigs including McFly, JLS and UB40

Gracefully sitting at the piano the room fell to silence as we heard Everybody’s Crazy and I Could Be a Florist , I’d predict I wasn’t the only person crying at this point.

As the evening rolled on and the songs kept coming the genuine talent Olivia has, not just as a singer but as a lyricist, had the crowd hooked on her every word. Of course she ends with  Dive , the standout track from the album that perfectly depicts how it feels to fall in love.

  • Ok Love You Bye
  • Cross My Mind
  • Be My Own Boyfriend
  • What Am I Gonna Do on Sundays?
  • No Man
  • Touching Toes
  • Everybody’s Crazy

  • The Hardest Part

Saying her goodbyes with a ‘I’ve had such a lovely evening’ and telling the crowd how happy she is to be back home in the UK after recent shows in America.

Experiencing Olivia Dean at Albert Hall felt genuinely special, the star is destined for a life time of deserved fame but her voice was made to be experiences in an intimate venue. The opportunity to enjoy her talent in such a perfect venue was nothing short of a divine evening.

Poyton’s Party in the Park is back for 2024 and has an announced legendary disco act as their biggest headliner ever.

Marking the 20th anniversary of the cult favourite event, the old Cheshire town which neighbours the likes of Stockport and Macclesfield is hosting its biggest party to date at Poynton Park this summer in partnership with the local Rotary Club, promising a jam-packed day of live music and more.

Confirming classic New York disco group and vocal trio Odyssey and the main event, with millions of records sold worldwide and some of the most iconic tracks of the 1970s and 80s to their name, this little one-day festival is set for a massive year.

Better still, as a fundamentally not-for-profit event raising money for local charities and community groups, you can party all day and all night whilst doing your bit for a good cause.

poynton in the park tickets 2024

Alongside Odyssey , the lineup for Poynton’s Party in the Park 2024 includes critically acclaimed cover bands like The Soul Providers and Soulvation Band, performing some of the greatest soul, funk, Motown and disco hits of the 1960s.

There’s plenty of local talent from around the North West on show too, such as Manchester singer-songwriter Imogen Paige , Liverpool-based indie band The Garnetts and, returning due to popular demand, Party in the Park favourites and Poynton’s very own Monkey Harris Band.

Great name and an even greater stage presence.

They’re the stuff of legend around the local area, regularly playing the likes of the Poynton Beer Festival and this is by no means their first turn around the park.

This year’s Party in the Park is being put on by local festival organiser and Hale Barns Carnival creator, Max Eden, working alongside Poynton Rotary – who founded the event two decades ago – to deliver what they’re calling a “refreshed and updated event for all the family to enjoy”.

The one-day festival also promises to feature lots of new and exciting additions for 2024 including traditional funfair rides for all ages, alongside an extended showcase of the amazing local food and drink, as well as a new VIP area offering premium seats, table service and exclusive meet and greets.

Local station Happy Radio UK will also be covering the event as the official radio partner, broadcasting in Greater Manchester, Cheshire and across various other parts of the North West , with well-known presenters like Steve Penk, Darren Proctor and Chelsea Norris all set to be involved.

Speaking ahead of the fundraising festival, Odyssey lead singer Steven Collazo said: “We’re so excited to be headlining Poynton Party in the Park this June. We’ve heard you guys know how to party and we can’t wait to get our groove on with y’all!”

name of music festival in poynton

  • You can ‘run and rave’ as part of this new charity-driven social in Manchester city centre
  • A brand-new all-British music festival is coming to Cheshire and the lineup is a pure throwback

As for organiser Max Eden, he added: “I’m thrilled to be working with Poynton Rotary this year to stage the biggest Poynton Party in the Park to date.

“We have an incredible headliner alongside outstanding local musicians and performers, amazing family attractions and the best food and drink from the local area – it’s the perfect lineup for a really good party!

“We hope to raise vital funds for Poynton Rotary to enable them to continue the incredible work they do locally in supporting charities and community groups in our area.”

Party in the Park starts at 1pm on Saturday, 8 June with tickets starting from £28.50 for adults and just £15 for 5-16s – not to mention kids four and under going completely free. You can grab your general admission, or VIP passes if you’re feeling a bit posh, right HERE .

Live review: 90s Baby POP at AO Arena

By Jay Darcy

Article Summary

Live review: 90s Baby POP at AO Arena

90s Baby POP has been touring the UK with Atomic Kitten , Five , Liberty X , Gareth Gates , S Club Allstars , 911 , Damage , The 411 , Big Brovaz  & Booty Luv , and Honeyz . But the Manchester date was the main event, with 10 extra artists on the bill. Sadly, 2 Unlimited and Aqua , the headliner, dropped out last-minute.

I saw 2 Unlimited at a similar event, We Love the 90’s, which was headlined by Vengaboys . Anita Doth is no longer with 2 Unlimited, and her replacement, Kim Vergouwen , left the group this year. The problem with We Love the 90’s is many of its acts were not the original artists; some of them were essentially tribute acts. 90s Baby, however, prides itself on securing top talent from the 90s (save for Livin’ Joy featuring Luzahnn , who they love hiring) – and this line-up was their best yet. Aqua’s departure was felt but nevertheless the night was nostalgic and naughty.

The event was opened with a DJ session from Nick Coulson , before the host, Jonny Meah , took to the stage. He would return in between each act. He was a great host, not too cheesy, and he never made himself the star of the show.

The first of the main acts was Chico , who was given a healthy four-song set, but his penultimate song was the only one anyone cared about: ‘It’s Chico Time’. Whilst few people recognised his other songs, he is a showman and really brought the entertainment (and a little cringe). For a fleeting moment, I forgot he was an antivaxxer.

Chico was followed by another cheesy artist: The Cheeky Girls . This fever dream began with a grating cover of ‘We Go Together’ from Grease before ‘Hooray Hooray (It’s a Cheeky Holiday)’ and their biggest hit, ‘Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum)’. Shout out to their camptastic sparkly outfits.

Things then got a little more tasteful (though less entertaining). Honeyz’ four-song set featured three of their hits, including ‘Finally Found’, and a cover of TLC’s ‘Waterfalls’. They were followed by Big Brovaz and Booty Luv (for those of you who don’t know, Booty Luv is made up of two of the female members of Big Brovaz). After performing Big Brovaz’ ‘Nu Flow’, they sang Booty Luv’s (superior) cover of Tweet’s ‘Boogie 2Nite’ and ended with the former’s ‘Baby Boy’.

Next up was S Club Allstars, which is currently made up of S Club 7 ‘s Bradley McIntosh aka City Boy (an original member of Allstars) and Tina Barrett , alongside S Club Junior ‘s Stacey Franks. They opened their set with S Club 7’s ‘Bring It All Back’, which they followed with S Club Junior’s ‘Automatic High’ and ‘One Step Closer’. They then finished their set with the former band’s biggest hit, ‘Don’t Stop Movin’, and a song that any British party is not complete without: ‘Reach for the Stars’. This set was particularly nostalgic, even though S Club 7’s lead singer, Jo O’Mara , is no longer a part of Allstars (but given her racism scandal, I am glad). Admittedly, I’m more of a Steps fan, myself!

The cheesy nostalgia continued, with Gareth Gates singing his questionable cover of Elvis Presley ‘s ‘Suspicious Minds’, his second single, ‘Anyone of Us (Stupid Mistake)’, and his joyous cover of Norman Greenbaum ‘s ‘Spirit in the Sky’

The cheese-grating was then brought to a halt, with The 411 giving us RNB and sensual moves. They first sang ‘On My Knees’ then ‘China Girl’ and cleverly  ended their set with ‘Dumb’.

More groups followed. 911 showed off their incredible moves with a 6-song set that ended with the crowd-pleasing ‘Bodyshakin”. Damage sang 3 or 4 songs, I don’t quite remember, but I do remember seeing them sing the sexy, soulful ‘Ghetto Romance’.

Liberty X, a fixture of Pride festivals, opened their set with their signature song, ‘Just a Little’, following it up with ‘Thinking It Over’ and finishing it off with ‘Being Nobody’ (their cover of Chaka Khan ‘s ‘Ain’t Nobody’).

Las Ketchup then transported us from the cold, wet streets of Manchester to sunny Spain. After singing a song nobody knew, they began speaking, in Spanish – and still, nobody knew what they were saying, but we were thrilled to be in their presence and looked forward to inevitably seeing them singing ‘The Ketchup Song (Aserejé)’.

Las Ketchup had the whole audience doing the iconic dance moves, as did the next act, Whigfield , with the timeless ‘Saturday Night’. I saw Whigfield at We Love the 90’s, and she sang the exact same three songs in the exact same order: ‘Think of You’, ‘Saturday Night’, and ‘Sexy Eyes’. But whilst We Love the 90’s was on a Friday, 90s Baby Pop took place on a Saturday – which made her performance extra exciting.

Next up was one of the acts I was most looking forward to seeing: Corona (aka Olga de Souza ). Whilst she did not sing ‘Try Me Out’, she opened her set with ‘Baby Baby’ and ended it with ‘Rhythm of the Night’. In between the two iconic tunes, she sang a little bit of ‘I Will Always Love You’ (a cappella) to thank us for our support. Now, Olga did not actually sing her own songs (she merely lip synced in the music videos) so I don’t know what possessed her to give Whitney a go, but you’ve got to admire her confidence (slash ignorance). Other than that questionable song choice, it was a fun, fierce performance, and she looked fabulous.

Lou Bega had us swaying along to ‘I Got a Girl’ and a newer song but then he sang ‘Mambo No. 5’ – and you can imagine the audience reaction!

Meah then told us that he had been playing one of the next artist’s songs on the other dates, and the audience always went wild – but we were getting it live! The artist in question? B*Witched ! They sang ‘Rollercoaster’, ‘Jesse Hold On’, ‘Blame It on the Weatherman’, and, of course ‘C’est La Vie’ – but they mixed it up by including a bit of Ed Sheeran ‘s ‘Galway Girl’. With umbrellas and huge balloons that they threw into the audience, this was possibly the best performance of the night.

Next up was England’s answer to B*Witched: Atomic Kitten (well, Liz McClarnon and Natasha Hamilton ). They sang their cutesy cover of Blondie ‘s ‘The Tide is High’ and ‘Eternal Flame’ before they got the audience ecstatic with ‘Whole Again’.

Meah then killed the vibe by telling us that some of us might have seen the news on social media: Aqua had pulled out. It was wise to leave the news until later on in the show, for it meant we got to enjoy the majority of the show (ignorance is bliss, y’all).

Luckily, Five were their to lift the mood, with a fiery six-song set – with literal fire! They got everybody up on their feet with ‘Everybody Get Up’ and had us all moving with ‘Keep On Movin”.

Meah then told us that there would be a wait whilst they set up for the next act. He joked that Aqua should have called ‘Doctor Jones’ (too soon) and then had the DJ play ‘Barbie Girl’. To my delight, the set that followed included Ricky Martin ‘s ‘Livin’ La Vida Loca’. By this point, people had begun leaving so there was plenty of room for me to dance! It then dawned upon me that this is why they saved the bad news until later on in the show: they knew that people would leave.

After the world’s longest set up, Gala took to the stage – for a five-song set that, judging by the audience reaction, was four songs too long. It just seemed to go on forever, and the majority of the audience was not familiar with her music – plus everyone was reeling from the Aqua news.

Gala is a great performer, and the flamenco dancer was a nice touch, but spending so long setting the stage for the band she was allowed to bring and then letting her sing five songs, four of which most people did not know, was not a wise decision.

Admittedly, ‘Freed from Desire’ had everyone buzzing, but then she sang another song – one which she even told us we do not know. It killed the vibe, after ‘Freed from Desire’ saved her performance. Finally, after a fifth and final song, we were freed from Gala…

The DJ then played Oasis ‘ ‘Wonderwall’, a bid to get the Manchester audience back on their side – but it was Heather Small that saved the day. She sang three M People songs – ‘Search for the Hero’, ‘What Have You Done Today’, and ‘Moving on Up’ – but she should have been allowed to sing more. I wish she’d sang ‘Sight for Sore Eyes’. Why did Gala get to sing 5 songs but Small only 3?

Los del Río , aka The Del Rios , followed, with two Spanish songs we did not know, the second a fun salsa song. They then performed the song that made them a one-hit wonder, ‘Macarena’ – and, in turn, were responsible for the biggest Macarena in history!

Whilst Eiffel 65 were supposed to be the penultimate act, Aqua’s departure left them with the main spot. The audience waited patiently as they sang ‘Too Much of Heaven’ and ‘Move Your Body’. Then, finally, they performed ‘Blue (Da Ba Dee)’ – a riotous end to a rave-tastic night (well, day and night).

Then, everybody left.

90s Baby POP did not manage to recover from the sad news of Aqua’s departure but it was still a fun, naughty night of nostalgia – and most of the remaining acts were fantastic.

90s Baby Pop Review: back to the 90s in the best way

90s Baby Pop Review: back to the 90s in the best way

VENGABOYS + PETER ANDRE + 5IVE + 911 + LIBERTY X + ATOMIC KITTEN + S CLUB + GARETH GATES + EAST 17 + A1 + BLAZIN’ SQUAD + LIVIN’ JOY + BABY D + ROZALLA + DJ NICK COULSON – THE OVAL, HASTINGS 3.10.21

On a rainy Sunday, 90s music fanatics came together for 90s Baby Pop, a day festival courtesy of JBM Music taking place at The Oval in Hastings. The venue was full of glitter, glowsticks, hair scrunchies, balloons, and plenty of neon body paint. The day lasted for nine hours and for the whole time the atmosphere was electric, not even rain could hold us back. After eighteen months without festivals, I was buzzing to finally go to a day festival. Whilst as a 1996 baby I don’t remember much of the 90s, I spent my childhood listening to artists like S Club 7 , Atomic Kitten , Gareth Gates , and Vengaboys , so I was excited to get to see my childhood favourites live.

90s pop baby tour

The Oval is the perfect space to hold a festival and the event was well managed. The festival was set underneath a huge tent, which was a relief given the weather. The large stage was easily visible and two screens meant that wherever you stood you could see the performances. There was plenty of space inside, so it didn’t feel like we were all bunched together like sardines. What really made the atmosphere was DJ Nick Coulson playing 90s hits in between sets. He knew how to get the crowd going, especially when he played ‘Wannabe’ by The Spice Girls! In keeping with the festival vibes, outside of the tent there were food vans and portaloos a plenty. There was a wide selection of food choices and the pricing was reasonable, especially for the quality (we had delicious vegan burgers and cheese sauce fries). There were even stands to get glitter done! The event operated a drinks token system which helped keep queues moving; the bar staff were lovely, even when they were rushed off their feet. The event was so well set up, and I hope to see more day festivals at The Oval.

The day kicked off with Rozalla . Rozalla is a Zimbabwe born electric pop singer. Her first single in 1990 ‘Born To Luv Ya’ was a success and was played on the club scene. Her most popular song ‘Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good)’ is still played in clubs today, with several different remixes released. Rozalla was the perfect act to kick off the day, bringing electric rave vibes, which had the crowd partying from the offset. Despite being the first act of the day, the turnout was great and everybody was having a blast. The crowd went wild for ‘Everybody’s Free’ ; there was lots of screaming and no one could keep still. Rozalla set up the atmosphere for the rest of the day, the energy she brought was immaculate.

Next came Baby D , known for their rave scene and festival performances. Baby D originally consisted of Floyd Dyce, Dee Galdes-Fearon, Claudio Galdez, and Terry Jones. Baby D had a number one single with ‘Let Me Be Your Fantasy’ in 1994. Baby D gave it her all today and brought great beats which got the crowd going. She gave the crowd exactly what they asked for: amazing dance vibes! There was lots of fun with ‘Need Your Loving’ ; the highlight for me was ‘Let Me Be Your Fantasy’ as the atmosphere was electric. Everyone loved the song and it was the perfect way to end the set.

90s pop baby tour

Next to take the stage was Livin’ Joy , and as she herself said, everyone who came early to see her set must be a “proper raver.” Formed in 1994, Livin’ Joy consisted of Paolo Visnadi , Gianni Visnadi and Janice Robinson, who was replaced by Tameka Starr in 1996. The group’s success came with their 1996 song ‘Don’t Stop Movin’’ I thoroughly enjoyed Livin Joy; she brought those rave vibes and her vocal range is incredible. She’s such a talented performer and I was in awe of her, especially her acapella singing. She brought great energy and an all-round good time.

Then came the first boyband of the night, Blazin’ Squad . Blazin’ Squad are a ten-piece hip-hop boyband formed in 2001. The band consists of James MacKenzie (Kenzie), Ollie Georgiou (Freek), Marcel Somerville (Rocky B), Chris McKckney (Melo-D), Lee Bailey (Krazy), Sam Foulkes (Spike-E), James Murray (Flava), Alan Mason (A-Tell), Joe Williams (J-Tell), Tom Beasley (Tommy-B), Chris Tulloh (Tulloh), and Mustafa Omer (Strider). The band had seven top ten hits during their career. Tonight, Blazin’ Squad kicked off the boyband fever nicely. The highlight of the set was the steamy performance of ‘Love On The Line,’ a quintessentially early 2000s song. What was so lovely about Blazin’ Squad is that they were genuinely so happy to be playing, and thanked the crowd afterwards. It was brilliant to see a band so full of passion and love for their art.

90s pop baby tour

Continuing with the boyband theme, next came A1 . Formed in 1998, A1 consists of Paul Marazzi, Christian Ingebrigtsen, Mark Read, and Ben Adams. They had two number one chart topping hits in the UK during their career. Tonight A1 brought the classic boyband performance with 90s dance moves and over the top graphics. It was like watching a 90s music video. I felt like I’d been transported back to what it must’ve been like to be a teenager in the 90s! The audience loved A1 and despite not being overly familiar with them, I thoroughly enjoyed their performance.

90s pop baby tour

The final boyband in the line-up was East 17 . I was excited to see East 17 as ‘Stay Another Day’ is such a great Christmas song. East 17 consists of Terry Coldwell, Robbie Craig, and Joe Livermore. Previous members include John Hendy, Brian Harvey, Tony Mortimer, Blair Dreelan, and Terry Jones. Formed in 1991, the band saw great success, with eighteen top twenty singles during their career. I was worried that they wouldn’t play ‘Stay Another Day’ as October really isn’t the season to get into the Christmas spirit. The boys asked the crowd if anyone wanted a Christmas song and everyone started screaming. They teased us by singing ‘Jingle Bells’ and ‘Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer’ but they eventually blessed us all with ‘Stay Another Day.’ This was another performance where the crowd went wild, their whole set was great, but this moment was by far the best.

90s pop baby tour

I was extremely excited when I realised Gareth Gates was next to take the stage. Gareth Gates rose to fame in 2002 after being a runner up in UK singing competition Pop Idol. Since then, he’s sold 3.5 million records. In his set, Gates did quite a few cover songs but really made them his own to the point I didn’t actually realise some of them were covers till the distinctive lines; this was the case when he covered Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect.’ I got goosebumps when Gates played his cover, his vocals were stunning and he played the piano which showed his talent. Gates brought a different vibe to the previous acts with some of his ballad performances really focusing on his musical ability as a pianist. He ended his set with his 2003 classic ‘Spirit In The Sky.’ I used to listen to a CD with this song on all the time, and I sang along like I would on car journeys as a child! Everyone was singing and dancing and he left the crowd on a real high.

90s pop baby tour

There ain’t no party like an S Club party, proven when S Club 7 came on stage with their electric energy. Formed in 1998, S Club 7 consists of Bradley McIntosh, Hannah Spearritt, Jo O’Meara, Jon Lee, Paul Cattermole, Rachel Stevens and Tina Barrett. S Club 7 starred in their own show Miami 7 and released music from the show. They have had four UK number one singles and one UK number one album. Tonight was S Club 2 , with Bradley and Tina giving it their all. The crowd was buzzing in anticipation waiting for the performance to begin. They kicked off their set with ‘S Club Party’ , and everyone was hooked. S Club 7’s famous song ‘Don’t Stop Movin’’ was definitely happening—no one could stop moving to the “funky funky beat!” Everyone danced along to ‘You’ and ‘Bring It All Back,’ but the highlight had to be ‘Reach.’ Almost everyone knows the dance to ‘Reach,’ and the whole crowd were jumping to “Reach for the stars”! It was the perfect opportunity to bring out all those moves I’d practised in my bedroom as a child. S Club 7 were absolutely brilliant, definitely one of my favourite acts of the day.

90s pop baby tour

For me, the highlight of the event was Atomic Kitten . Liverpool band Atomic Kitten were formed in 1998, currently consisting of Liz McClarnon, Natasha Hamilton, and Jenny Frost. Past members include Kerry Katona and Heidi Range. Their debut single ‘Right Now’ entered the top ten in the UK charts. Tonight saw Liz McClarnon and Natasha Hamilton take the stage. Seeing Atomic Kitten live has been a dream of mine since I was about six years old. All throughout my childhood they were my favourite band. I could barely contain my excitement and from the offset I was crying happy tears! When they started playing ‘Eternal Flame’ I couldn’t contain my sobs and had to wipe away my running mascara. The girls are so down to earth, joking about how surprised they were about canned water! They were both having such a good time on stage, and their dancing together showed the bond between the bandmates. I was obsessed with ‘The Tide Is High’ music video as a child, and it’s one of my favourite songs of all time. It was great fun to pull out the music video dance moves! The whole crowd loved the performance, and I’ve destroyed my throat from screaming along so loud! The set closed with ‘Whole Again,’ which was noted as a football classic. I must’ve been living under a rock because I hadn’t realised that the girls had recorded a version called ‘Southgate You’re The One (Footballs Coming Home Again)’ for the 2021 Euros. You could tell who were the Atomic Kitten fans and who were the football fans were during this performance based on who screamed “whole again” and who screamed “footballs coming home again”. It was a great way to end the set and I was so giddy afterwards—my childhood self got everything she dreamed of!

90s pop baby tour

The next girl band in the series was Liberty X , consisting of Michelle Heaton, Tony Lundon, Kevin Simm, Jessica Taylor and Kelli Young. Liberty X were formed in 2001 on the ITV talent show Popstars. Their third single ‘Just A Little’ reached number one in the UK charts. I’d forgotten how many incredible songs Liberty X have—you just can’t help but throw yourself into dancing. They opened their set with ‘Just A Little’ which had everyone giving it their all with their singing and rhythmic dancing. The highlight for me was ‘A Night To Remember.’ The girls smashed the performance and their vocals were incredible. They really did make it a night to remember!

90s pop baby tour

Next came 911 , the 1995 boyband consisting of Lee Brennan, Jimmy Constable and Simon ‘Spike’ Dawbarn. They had one number one single with their cover of ‘A Little Bit More.’ 911 did their cover of ‘A Night To Remember,’ which was great as it meant we got to hear two versions of a great song! Their cover of ‘More Than A Woman’ was a unique take on the original and the crowd loved it. 911 brought the stereotypical boyband energy which the audience wanted to see. It was a great set.

90s pop baby tour

Then came 5ive , and they’re right: “five will make you get down” and dance! The 1997 band 5ive are currently made up of Ritchie Neville, Scott Robinson, and Sean Conlon. The band were originally a five piece with J Brown and Abz Love joining the boys. They’ve released 25 million copies of their records worldwide. 5ive are set to release a new album, and they treated us with songs from the album. The boys did a cover of ‘We Will Rock You,’ a classic which went down well with the audience. I thoroughly enjoyed it when they played ‘It’s Alright,’ which is one of my favourite 5ive songs. The highlight of the set had to be ‘Keep On Movin’.’ In my opinion, this is 5ive’s best song and I couldn’t stop movin’ whilst they played!

90s pop baby tour

Next to the stage was heartthrob Peter Andre . In 1992 Peter Andre released his first single ‘Drive Me Crazy.’ ‘Mysterious Girl’ hit number 2 in the charts when it was released in 1996, and hit number one in 2004 whilst Andre was on reality TV show I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Andre is back in the studio making albums inspired by reggae icons, evident in his cover of ‘Three Little Birds,’ originally sung by Bob Marley. There was plenty of screaming for Andre, and that was just from me! He was a real crowd pleaser and his teasing style of dancing was great. Peter Andre hyped up Ryan Jackson who performed with him, and Jackson was an incredible performer. Andre teased us with ‘Mysterious Girl’ all set, and when he ended with it, we all screamed. The energy Andre brought by running around the space was great, and we all sang and danced like there was no tomorrow!

90s pop baby tour

The night ended with Vengaboys who brought those Ibiza vibes. The Dutch band formed in 1997 and are made up of Kim Sasabone, Denise Post-Van Rijswijk, Robin Pors, and Donny Latupeirissa. In 1999 they broke into the UK music scene when ‘Boom Boom Boom’ topped the charts. The Vengaboys were the perfect way to end the night and they captured the whole spirit of 90s Baby Pop: dancing and having a good time!

90s pop baby tour

They opened with a sneak preview of ‘Boom Boom Boom’ before breaking into a cover of the Black Eyed Peas ‘I Gotta Feeling.’ We took a flight with Venga Airways and they sang ‘We’re Going To Ibiza,’ a classic euro-dance song—we spent a lot of time doing an airplane dance! Their set was fast paced when they started doing snippet covers of classic songs such as ‘YMCA,’ , ‘1999,’ Livin’ On A Prayer,’ ‘I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll,’ and many more. They went back to playing their own songs, kicking off with a long version of ‘We Like To Party.’ There were plenty of people pretending to be a (Venga) bus in some hilarious dancing. They ended their set with the classic ‘Boom Boom Boom’ which was the perfect way to end a wild 90s night. Everyone was loving it and the dancing saw a lot of extreme jumping! Vengaboys brought so much positive energy and made me smile the entire set.

My legs are aching this morning, but it was worth it to sing and dance to some incredible bands. Keep your eyes peeled for more festivals at The Oval, they really delivered a brilliant day.
