British band Squeeze is pleased to announce their Summer 2024 North American Tour, commencing August 14 in Eugene, Oregon. This will be Squeeze's latest U.S. foray since last year's American tour with The Psychedelic Furs. Boy George will be joining the band on the road this year. Tickets go on sale Friday, May 3, 2024, at 10AM Local Time.

In 1978, Squeeze blasted to the forefront of the U.K. music scene at the height of the punk revolution. A three-song E.P. landed them a deal with A&M Records, which led to the release of their debut self-titled album. With songwriting hooks and melodies that harkened back to the 60's British Invasion, the groundbreaking L.P. featured "Take Me I'm Yours," followed by a cadre of U.K. hits, including "Cool for Cats," "Up the Junction," "Pulling Mussels From A Shell," "Black Coffee in Bed," and "Labeled With Love." The band made an indelible mark on the U.S. in 1981 with the release of their classic hits, "Tempted," "Hourglass," and "853-5937" (from East Side Story.) Squeeze disbanded in 1999, then reunited in 2007, releasing three new albums: Spot the Difference (2010), Cradle to the Grave (2015), and The Knowledge (2017.) in 2022; the Food for Thought E.P. was released featuring one new song, two reimagined songs, and three exclusive live tracks. Profits from the digital E.P. will go to benefit independent U.K. Food Banks. Additionally, both Difford and Tilbrook have released various solo projects. Squeeze is currently hard at work on two albums - release date to be determined

In addition to Chris and Glenn, Squeeze currently features keyboardist Stephen Large and drummer Simon Hanson (since 2007), percussionist/backing vocalist Steve Smith (since 2017), pedal/lap steel guitarist Melvin Duffy (since 2019), and Owen Biddle, former bassist for The Roots (who joined in 2020).

ABOUT BOY GEORGE Formed in 1981, Culture Club was led by singer/songwriter Boy George, universally loved as one of music's most iconic artists. As the first multi-racial band with an openly gay frontman, the band set many records and established themselves as icons of British musical history and popular culture. Culture Club picked up the Grammy Award for Best New Artist and awards for Best British Group and Best British Single at the BRIT Awards. The band has sold over 150 million records worldwide and s best known for their songs "Karma Chameleon'" and "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me." and "Church Of The Poison Mind."

As a solo artist, Boy George has released nine studio albums, five compilation albums, and forty-eight singles He has received several awards as a solo artist and was voted 46th in a BBC poll of the 100 Greatest Britons. In 2015, Boy George received an Ivor Novello Award from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors for Outstanding Services to British Music.

About Culture Club

Few new wave groups were as popular as Culture Club. During the early ’80s, the group racked up seven straight Top Ten hits in the U.K. and six Top Ten singles in the U.S. with their light, infectious pop-soul. Though their music was radio-ready, what brought the band stardom was Boy George, the group’s charismatic, cross-dressing lead singer. George dressed in flamboyant dresses and wore heavy makeup, creating a disarmingly androgynous appearance that created a sensation on early MTV. George also had a biting wit and frequently came up with cutting quips that won Culture Club heavy media exposure in both America and Britain.

By the time Culture Club’s second album Colour by Numbers was released in the fall of 1983, the band was the most popular pop/rock group in America and England. “Karma Chameleon” became a number one hit on both sides of the Atlantic, while the album reached number one in the U.K. and number two in the U.S. Throughout 1984, the group racked up hits, with “It’s a Miracle” and “Miss Me Blind” reaching the Top Ten. In the fall, the group returned with its third album, Waking Up with the House on Fire. While “The War Song” reached number two in the U.K., the album was a disappointment in America, stalling at platinum; its predecessor went quadruple platinum.

Following a brief tour in February, Culture Club went on hiatus for 1985, with Craig, Moss, and Hay pursuing extracurricular musical projects in the interim. Though their comeback single, “Move Away,” became a hit in April, its accompanying album From Luxury to Heartache stayed on the charts for only a few months.

George confirmed the group’s disbandment in the spring of 1987, and he began a solo career later that year. While his solo career produced several dance hits in Europe, he didn’t land an American hit until 1992, when his cover of Dave Berry’s “The Crying Game” was featured in the Academy Award-nominated film of the same name. In 1995, George published his autobiography, Take It Like a Man. Culture Club reunited in 1998, issuing the two-disc set VH1 Storytellers/Greatest Hits.

A new album, Don’t Mind If I Do, appeared in 1999, reaching 64 on the U.K. charts; it did not receive an American release. Culture Club next celebrated their 20th Anniversary with a 2002 concert at Royal Albert Hall.

Culture Club reunited in 2014 for a tour and the band also began work on a new album with producer Youth. The group scheduled the release of an album called Tribes in 2015, but the record never materialized. Instead, the recordings provided the foundation for Life, the 2018 album that marked Culture Club’s first new album in nearly 20 years. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi

Electronic music pioneer Howard Jones has been a constant presence on the international touring scene for the past four decades, playing live in a number of different configurations including intimate solo shows and dates with his full high-tech band set-up.  He first burst upon the contemporary music scene in 1983, with his very English songwriting and pioneering synthesizers with “New Song”. His first two albums HUMAN’S LIB and DREAM INTO ACTION were worldwide hits.  HUMAN’S LIB reached #1 in 1984 in the UK and featured the hits “New Song,” and “What Is Love?”  In 1985, Jones released the follow-up, DREAM INTO ACTION, which quickly became a Top Ten Platinum album in the United States and featured the smashes: “Things Can Only Get Better,” “Life In One Day,” “No One Is To Blame,” and “Like To Get To Know You Well.”

About BERLIN

BERLIN will forever be recognized as the American progenitor of electro-pop artistry with sensually appealing lyrics.  Few bands emerging from the era of BERLIN have achieved as far-reaching and long-lasting an impact and, rarely, such a timeless array of musical grooves.  The Los Angeles-based band made its first national impression with the provocative single “Sex (I’m A…)” from the platinum-selling debut EP Pleasure Victim in 1982. “The Metro” and “No More Words” were also chart toppers, but it was the unforgettable, intimate, and strikingly beautiful love song, “Take My Breath Away” that took the band to another level.  The ballad’s defining role in the Tom Cruise film, Top Gun , helped solidify BERLIN’s everlasting place in American pop-culture.  The song was a #1 international hit and received both the Golden Globe and Academy Award for “Best Original Song” in 1986.

BERLIN’s discography has yielded twelve gold and platinum album awards. The band—founded by Nunn, bassist John Crawford, and keyboard player David Diamond—made its everlasting place in American pop-culture. Nunn’s ongoing influence earned her the #11 spot on VH1.com’s “100 Greatest Women in Rock,” while, as an actress, she played leading roles in films including Katie: Portrait of a Centerfold with Kim Basinger, and Thank God It’s Friday with Jeff Goldblum and Debra Winger. Along with comedienne, Wendy Liebman, Nunn also previously hosted the critically acclaimed radio show Unbound with Terri Nunn on 88.5 FM KCSN Los Angeles.

After the group’s break-up in 1987, frontman Boy George began a solo career, releasing nine studio albums. His 1992 cover of the Pet Shop Boys’ ‘The Crying Game’ became a hit in the US peaking at Number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

In a interview with NME , The Lottery Winners’ frontman Thom Rylance shared: “George’s voice on ‘Let Me Down’ is chilling. I get goosebumps hearing it. I was supposed to sing the second verse, but George sang it all. I thought: ‘I can’t delete Boy George’s vocal and put mine on instead. Obviously not!’ I’m in the background somewhere instead.”

Recently, Boy George and his Culture Club bandmates agreed to pay £1.75million to their ex-drummer Jon Moss over lost profits .

Moss had brought legal action against the band’s lead singer Boy George, guitarist Roy Hay and bassist Michael Craig following his alleged expulsion by their manager in September 2018 after 37 years of playing together.

ICONIC BRITISH BAND SQUEEZE  TO EMBARK ON NORTH AMERICAN TOUR ALONGSIDE BOY GEORGE

SUMMER TOUR COMMENCES AUGUST 14TH IN EUGENE, OREGON

TICKETS GO ON SALE FRIDAY, MAY 3 – 10AM LOCAL TIME

British band Squeeze is pleased to announce their Summer 2024 North American Tour, commencing August 14 in Eugene, Oregon. This will be Squeeze’s latest U.S. foray since last year’s American tour with The Psychedelic Furs.

With songwriting hooks and melodies that harkened back to the 60’s British Invasion, the groundbreaking L.P. featured “Take Me I’m Yours,” followed by a cadre of U.K. hits, including “Cool for Cats,” “Up the Junction,” “Pulling Mussels From A Shell,” “Black Coffee in Bed,” and “Labeled With Love.” The band made an indelible mark on the U.S. in 1981 with the release of their classic hits, “Tempted,” “Hourglass,” and “853-5937” (from East Side Story.) Squeeze disbanded in 1999, then reunited in 2007, releasing three new albums:  Spot the   Difference  (2010),  Cradle to the Grave  (2015), and  The Knowledge  (2017.) in 2022; the  Food for Thought  E.P. was released featuring one new song, two reimagined songs, and three exclusive live tracks. Profits from the digital E.P. will go to benefit independent U.K. Food Banks. Additionally, both Difford and Tilbrook have released various solo projects. Squeeze is currently hard at work on two albums – release date to be determined

Squeeze/Boy George

Celebrating their fiftieth anniversary with an extensive international tour, Squeeze are one of rock's vital institutions, a band who carved out a distinctive place in the pop firmament with their vibrantly melodic, perceptive songs. Those songs were written by Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, the composers who remained at the heart of Squeeze since its inception in 1973. Such early New Wave hits as "Up the Junction," "Cool for Cats," "Another Nail in My Heart" and "Tempted" led critics to label Difford and Tilbrook the "next Lennon and McCartney," an assessment that wasn't proven to be hyperbole. The ensuing decades found Squeeze building a formidable body of work, a songbook that continues to expand with the release of the vigorous comeback albums Cradle to the Grave and The Knowledge, a pair of records Squeeze delivered in the late 2010s after a nearly twenty-year hiatus from the studio.

Over the years, Squeeze saw a few hiatuses and breaks, not to mention players cycling through the lineup. Throughout it all, Difford and Tilbrook were the constants. The pair met when Tilbrook answered a "musicians wanted" advertisement Difford placed in a local south London shop. Keyboardist Jools Holland joined shortly afterward, then the band adopted the name Squeeze, cheekily taking the moniker from the disparaged final Velvet Underground album that featured none of the group's original members. Improbably, founding Velvet Underground member John Cale wound up playing a crucial role in Squeeze's early career. In 1977, after Gilson Lavis came aboard as their drummer and Harri Kakouli became the group's bassist, Cale produced Packet of Three, Squeeze's debut EP, and a good portion of their eponymous 1978 debut. The band produced two cuts on Squeeze, including their breakthrough hit, "Take Me, I'm Yours."

When Boy George first appeared on Top of the Pops with Culture Club in 1982, he instantly had people talking. The New Romantic pop sensations went on to achieve seven UK Top 10 singles, nine Top 10 singles in the USA, and nine Top 20 singles in Australia - including ‘Karma Chameleon’ and ‘Do You Really Want to Hurt Me - and sell over 100 million singles and 50 million albums worldwide. In 1984, the band picked up the Grammy Award for Best New Artist, and the awards for Best British Group and Best British Single at the BRIT Awards.

Culture Club became the first group since The Beatles to have three Top 10 hits in America from a debut album, and the first group in music history to have an album certified diamond in Canada.

After Culture Club’s split in 1986, Boy George released his debut solo single ‘Everything I Own’, which reached #1 in the UK and reached the Top 10 in an additional eight countries. In a solo career spanning three decades, Boy George has released nine studio albums, as well as 1993’s ‘At Worst… The Best of Boy George and Culture Club’ compilation album.

Aside from performing music, Boy George also wrote the lyrics and co-wrote the music to Taboo, a stage musical based on the New Romantic scene of the early 1980s, for which he was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Musical Score.

The Wanted’s Max George and Siva Kaneswaran have shared plans for a reunion, embarking on tour dates across India this May.

While the pair won’t be joined by their other bandmates, it will be the first time The Wanted has performed in any iteration since 2022.

The group stopped touring after the death of their bandmate Tom Parker , who died of glioblastoma brain cancer on March 30, 2022, at just 33 years old.

The British-Irish boy band formed in 2009 and was catapulted to international stardom with chart-topping hits such as Glad You Came and Chasing the Sun.

Originally comprising Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Tom Parker, Jay McGuiness , and Nathan Sykes, the group captivated audiences worldwide with their infectious pop anthems and magnetic stage presence.

It remains unclear why McGuiness and Sykes won’t be performing with the band.

The new dates come as a surprise, given McGuinness’ previous insistence that continuing to tour as The Wanted would ‘feel weird’ in the wake of their bandmate’s passing.

When asked if the band would perform again in a 2022 interview , he told Metro.co.uk : ‘We all feel weird about making those sorts of plans without Tom. We were a gang and went around the world together and it would feel odd to be doing that now as a four.’

McGuinness announced on Tuesday that he’s joining the cast of the show 2:22 in Ireland, possibly explaining his absence from the tour dates.

He’ll be joined by former Love Island host Laura Whitmore, EastEnders star Shona McGarty, and Once Upon a Time actor Colin O’Donoghue.

Announcing their India tour on Instagram, George and Kaneswaren expressed excitement for the opportunity to perform in a new country.

George described the tour as a ‘dream come true,’ emphasizing the significance of this journey for both himself and Siva.

He wrote: ‘Myself and Siva can’t wait for this! Our first time in India… Dream come true!’

Amidst preparations for the upcoming performances, Max George has also made headlines for selling his clothes online.

The musician has made at least £3,500 by selling his old belongings, including pieces from his time with The Wanted, but plenty more still remain up for sale on his Depop page.
