That's one of the overriding themes in "Unstoppable," the new book by Chiquis Rivera. It's part memoir and part self-help book.

Chiquis, as she's known to fans, is the daughter of the late Jenni Rivera. She's an established singer and businesswoman in her own right. She's here tonight as part of a book tour at Christ Church Cathedral, in conjunction with Brazos Bookstore. Chiquis will meet fans and talk about the book during an onstage conversation (with me, yours truly).

"Unstoppable" delves into several intimate aspects of Chiquis' life, including how she became a mom to her siblings after the death of their mother. She details the challenges of balancing that with a burgeoning music career and a romantic life. Chiquis was married to banda singer singer Lorenzo Mendez, who she says was an alcoholic and regularly used cocaine.

She writes about the backlash she received at the start of her music career, from strangers and family, who said she was riding her mother's coattails. She details her complicated relationship with religion and church ("The sermons were laced with too much fear"). And she encourages others to learn to love their curves.

“I don’t stop to wallow in the fear of endings because I know they make way for new beginnings," Chiquis says in the book. It's a motto that has served her well.

Chiquis' third album, "Playlist," won a Latin Grammy last year for best banda album. She flipped country classic "Jolene" into a simmering cumbia featuring Becky G and performed it virtually with Dolly Parton at an event honoring Latinas in music. Parton introduced the performance, referring to Chiquis as “mi amiga,” and re-recorded vocals for the new version.

She's currently on the radio with two singles: her own "Quiero Amanecer Con Alguien" and "Baila Asi," an infectious track by Texas production duo Play-N-Skillz that samples the Fito Olivares party classic "La Gallina." It also featuring Thalia and Becky G. Chiquis is also at the helm of Be Flawless, a successful makeup and skin care line.

Joey Guerra is the music critic for the Houston Chronicle. He also covers various aspects of pop culture. He has reviewed hundreds of concerts and interviewed hundreds of celebrities, from Justin Bieber to Dolly Parton to Beyonce. He's appeared as a regular correspondent on Fox26 and was head judge and director of the Pride Superstar singing competition for a decade. He has been named journalist of the year multiple times by both OutSmart Magazine and the FACE Awards. He also covers various aspects of pop culture, including the local drag scene and "RuPaul's Drag Race."

Mexican music superstar CHIQUIS has just announced her upcoming North American tour, DIAMANTES TOUR , where the singer has tailored a brand new live experience full of her greatest hits for all her fans. Produced by Live Nation, the U.S. leg of the tour kicks off on May 30 at The Magnolia Theater in El Cajon and will make stops at important cities across North America.

“I am so ecstatic, and cannot wait to kick off my DIAMANTES TOUR alongside my band, Banda Abeja Reina. I am ready to share this new, fresh and one of a kind concert experience, carefully developed with love for my U.S. and Mexican fans,” expressed superstar CHIQUIS. “I want to personally invite all my Boss Bees  to join me with their flashiest outfits on at every show, so we can shine bright, together!”

As part of the “Diamantes” Tour experience, CHIQUIS invites her devoted fans to join her in celebrating their individuality and radiance. Embracing the “Diamantes” theme, CHIQUIS encourages attendees to showcase their best outfits, allowing their inner light to shine brightly throughout the concert.

“Diamantes” is not just a tour; it’s a celebration of empowerment, self-expression, and unity. Chiquis Rivera holds book tour at Christ Church Cathedral-Houston

Chiquis Rivera, daughter of Mexican superstar Jenni Rivera, recently held a book tour in Houston, specifically at Christ Church Cathedral. In partnership with the Brazos Bookstore, the Grammy-award-winning Latin singer-songwriter and author released her memoir book entitled " Unstoppable: How I Found My Strength Through Love and Loss." 

Chiquis Rivera’s Book Tour

On Thursday, Feb. 10, famous Latina performer Chiquis Rivera held her book tour in an Episcopal church in Texas. Houston Chronicle reported on the same day that the book is a memoir and somehow a "self-help book." 

Entitled " Unstoppable: How I Found My Strength Through Love and Loss," the book reportedly details all the happenings of Chiquis' life from losing her mother up until her blossoming career in performing to other people. 

One of the most-remembered mottos in her book, "I don't stop to wallow in the fear of endings because I know they make way for new beginnings," described the things that happened to her life. 

In the same report, Chiquis revealed that her mother's death was difficult as she replaced her mom's position for her younger siblings. Her relationship with her husband, banda singer Lorenzo Mendez, also made her life miserable since Mendez was allegedly an alcoholic and often used cocaine. 

Rolling Stone also set an interview with Chiquis about her new book. She said in the report that her connection with her mother also faced controversies. 

She shared that Chiquis already supported her mother in any way she could at a young age. As mentioned, her mother, Jenni Rivera, was a Mexican superstar before she passed away. Chiquis noted that her book explained her deeper relationship with her mother. 

In her narration, the Latina singer said that her mother knew about her plans of wanting to perform to other people. Jenni even suggested herself as the manager of her daughter as she explained that there are many "sharks in this industry." Ever since then, she reportedly 'took a leap of faith.'

Since her mother died, she admitted losing touch with her other relatives, especially her aunt Rosie Rivera and uncle Juan Rivera, who formerly managed her mother's career. 

When asked about their relationship with each other, Chiquis said that she did not wish any harm to her relatives. But, she confirmed that she had no communication with them whatsoever. 

Still, the Latin singer mentioned that she prayed for their lives and believed that was the best thing to do for them right now. The UK Time reported that Chiquis regularly attends church with her family and that she practices Presbyterian religion. 

Christ Church Cathedral

The Christ Church Cathedral in Houston is located at 1117 Texas Avenue. Founded in 1839, the local church believes in the love of Jesus Christ and has lived with its mission to serve the congregation and the community. 

As said on its website , the church is open to people from all walks of life, whether from different religious beliefs or sexual orientations. They offer a "diverse and vibrant community of faith" for all its members.

Chiquis continues to make the rounds with her fourth studio album Abeja Reina (UMG Records), recently talking all about it on Telemundo’s “Road to Billboard Latin Music Awards” concert series. “I’m happy to be here, to be able to sing to you and share a bit,” the Latin Grammy-winning artist said in an interview with the morning show hoyDia . “It’s the summer, we have to celebrate!”

Chiquis officially wrapped Telemundo’s star-studded “Summer Concerts: Road to Billboard Latin Music Awards” musical outdoor series, which kicked off July 15 and aired weekly on hoyDia (every Thursday) and En Casa con Telemundo (every Friday).

The artist visited hoyDia on July 28, where she performed her single “Quiero Amancer con Alguien” and on July 29, she visited En Casa con Telemundo , where she debuted her new single “Entre Besos y Copas.”

“We’ve had success with this album,” she said. “I like to experiment and take risks, especially in music. I like all types of music and that reflects in my album where I have cumbia, banda, norteño, and a bit of everything. I just really like to dance.”

During the two back-to-back TV specials, Chiquis also opened up about her late mother Jenni Rivera, and revealed her upcoming collaboration.

“She was my mom, my dad, my friend, my mentor. Seeing your mom, the woman you most admire on stage, inspired me to want to do the same,” she expressed. “More than anything, it was her will to never give up. They told her no and closed the doors, and that’s what motivates me the most. If she could do it as a single mom with five kids, I can too.”

In a later interview with En Casa con Telemundo, Chiquis revealed that her next collaboration is a “super sexy song” with Electro Cumbia artist Raymix. “We already recorded the video and I’m really excited,” she noted.

Telemundo’s “Summer Concerts: Road to Billboard Latin Music Awards” included performances by Larry Hernandez, Lenny Tavárez, Kim Loaiza, Marca Registrada, and Chiquis. The 2022 Billboard Latin Music Awards, produced by MBS Special Events, are set to take place on Sept. 29 live on Telemundo from Miami’s Watsco Center.
