Prospective students can schedule appointments with staff from admissions, financial aid, and career services, as well as program directors. We can also connect you with a current student in your master’s program of interest.
To request any or all of these options as part of your visit, please submit a visit request form .
For more information or ask any visit-related questions, call us at 412-268-2164.
In addition to individual online appointments available to prospective students, we have an extensive library of webinars and videos on YouTube available on demand.
Please note, the visit request form is a request, not registration or confirmation. You will receive additional information from our office once your request has been received and processed. If you are requesting an on-campus (in-person) visit, please do not make travel arrangements until you receive the confirmation and a copy of your schedule.
Our Location:
Heinz College is located in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh at 4800 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. For visitors flying into Pittsburgh International Airport, you can take public transportation (Airport Flyer 28X) to Oakland. The shuttle makes stops in Oakland (where the hotels are) and also across the street from our building (Hamburg Hall). For more information on schedules and routes, you can visit the Port Authority of Allegheny County website .
Event calendar
As you plan your visit, we encourage you to visit our event calendar for a detailed schedule of the coming season. We will be updating this calendar regularly as our schedule evolves.
Postal Services
Frequently asked questions (faq), sending and receiving items, what address should students use for mail and packages coming to campus.
All students who have been assigned a student mail code (SMC) mailbox number, which can found on their Student Information Online (SIO) webpage , should use the following address:
For security reasons, carriers are not permitted to deliver anything to dorms. Please refrain from using your dorm address for any mailings or packages. For more information, see our incoming student mail webpage.
How should faculty/staff mail be addressed?
I am a faculty/staff member and my department is currently working remotely. where will our mail be delivered.
Postal Services collects and delivers campus mail to any department capable of receiving the mail. Any department that is not currently able to physcially receive mail will have their mail held at our main location on the lower level of the Cohon University Center. An authorized departmental representative may come and claim a department’s mail/packages from that location. Use the Department Contact Form to designate a primary and secondary contact for your department. Please contact us if you wish to resume regular deliveries to your department.
When possible, please avoid sending packages to campus if you will not be present. We also ask that you update your online accounts and correspondence to reflect your current address while working away from campus.
Can I have my campus mail forwarded to other locations?
We are able to set up a forward for USPS packages only. To do so, please visit our website and fill out a forwarding form . Forwarding campus mail through USPS directly is not allowed. Please note that we cannot forward to international destinations due to USPS regulations.
For mail coming through any other carrier (such as UPS, FedEx, Amazon, DHL, LaserShip), contact the carrier directly for their available options. Please contact us with any special requests you have regarding any non-USPS package that has already arrived to campus.
I am unavailable during the day. Can I still pick up my package?
Can faculty/staff have personal packages mailed to campus.
Personal packages for faculty or staff should not be sent to campus locations, especially during the holidays, as they can overload the campus mail system. This can lead to significant delays for items deemed time-critical and essential to the operation of the university. Please have all personal items sent to your home address or consider renting a mailbox on CMU's campus.
I am having issues with a package delivery. Whom do I contact?
For USPS packages, please contact us for assistance. If you experience any difficulties with a non-USPS carrier delivery, please contact the carrier directly first. If you cannot resolve the delivery issue or cannot contact the carrier, then contact us for assistance. Amazon's delivery model does not include a local route driver, so we recommend that you coordinate carefully with Amazon for deliveries.
What do I do for mail being sent to campus during university breaks?
Please do not send packages to campus if you will not be present to receive it. We ask that you update your online accounts and correspondence to reflect your current address while you are away from campus. If you inadvertently place an order to campus, please contact the company you ordered from as soon as possible after placing your order and attempt to have the address updated or the package rerouted.
I found an abandoned Amazon package on campus. What do I do?
Abandoned Amazon packages should be reported to Postal Services .
Medical and Time-Critical Items
How do i have medicine or other time-sensitive items sent to me on campus.
If you have medication that needs to be refrigerated, you must call Health Services at (412) 268-2157, option 2, to speak with a nurse prior to having your items sent to campus. All medicine and other time-sensitive items sent to your campus address must be received one to two weeks BEFORE you need it.
Be sure to use your correct address -- any mail or packages that do not contain enough information for delivery will be returned to the sender. Refer to the guidance for incoming student/SMC campus mail for assistance. Please verify that the sender has the correct information before placing an order so that the mail or package can delivered correctly and in a timely manner.

Master's Programs
The Computer Science Department offers three different master’s options for students who have completed (or will complete) a bachelor’s degree and want to extend their training in computer science.
Our largest program is the M.S. in Computer Science, which allows students with undergraduate degrees in computer science or another technical field to work with their academic advisor to create their own course of study. We also offer a fifth-year master’s program for current SCS undergraduates, and a 3-2 MBA program with CMU’s Tepper School of Business.
- M.S. in Computer Science
The Master of Science in Computer Science offers students with a bachelor's degree the opportunity to take their skills to the next level with advanced study. We cater to students with basic analytic skills and a strong aptitude for mathematics, programming, and logical reasoning. You don’t need a bachelor’s degree in computer science specifically for the program, but a technical undergraduate background will set you up for success.
Program Details
Fifth Year Master's Program
We designed the Fifth Year Master's Program specifically for students receiving a B.S. or double major in Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon. The program encourages our very brightest undergraduates to become involved with research that broadens their undergraduate experience. We also want to encourage a select group of students to continue to graduate school by providing them with an additional qualification and period of study beyond their undergraduate degree, resulting in a master’s degree in computer science.
- Accelerated MBA Program
Students interested in earning their bachelor’s degree and MBA in five years may be interested in the Tepper School of Business’s Accelerated MBA program. The program is administered by the Tepper Schoool, and more information is available on their web site .
