Blue skies, calm seas and picture-perfect sunsets create a gorgeous backdrop for the Colonel Paddlewheel Boat, an authentic replica of an 1800’s style Paddlewheeler. This charming 500-passenger paddle wheel boat features year-round daily 45-minute cruises along Offatts Bayou on Galveston Island. There’s a snack bar, full-service bar, and gift shop on board for your convenience.

Pricing : $95/adult $85/child ages 12 and under, seniors 65 and older $85/Moody Gardens Members (discount only applies to individual members with valid Membership ID)

Time: Boarding 6:30 – 7pm, Dinner 7 – 8pm, Sail 7 – 9pm

In the event that weather or wind conditions prevent the Colonel from sailing, dinner will be served dockside and refunds will not be granted.  Cancellations and rescheduling requests must be received by email at [email protected]    by 5pm on Wednesday prior to the cruise date .

All purchases are final after 5:00pm on Wednesday prior to the scheduled cruise date.

Lee & Joe Jamail Bay Park

San Luis Pass Boat Ramp

Whether it's speedy jet boat rides, peaceful kayak outings, sightseeing tours, dolphin-watching excursions , or deep-sea fishing , Galveston boat tours are available for every speed of traveler. 

A boat tour on the bay makes a great outing from your Galveston vacation rental , where you can return at the end of the day to enjoy the sunset from your private deck.

Colonel Paddlewheel Boat at Moody Gardens

The Colonel Paddlewheel Boat is a little different from other Galveston boat tours since you'll be riding on a replica of an 1800s paddlewheel vessel. Located at Moody Gardens, the boat tour travels into the bayou and bay.

There are two different experiences you can book here. Day cruises last 45 minutes, and you can enjoy the views from shady interior spots or head to the breezy upper deck.

The paddle boat also hosts two-hour family-friendly dinner cruises with themed meals, including a Louisiana Bayou buffet, an Aloha feast, and local favorites like Tex Mex and barbecue. These sailings are quite popular and need to be booked in advance. 

Galveston Duck Tours

For something a little calmer, open-air boats will take guests on a dolphin tour focusing more on leisurely wildlife watching. In addition, the adults-only sunset tours are a perfect romantic outing for couples .

Galveston Party Boats

Galveston Party Boats are fishing-focused charters that head into the bay and out on the Gulf of Mexico. Unlike other deep-sea fishing charters on the island, this one charges per guest, so you don't have to rent the whole boat. 

The 4-hour tour option takes guests by the bay and jetty to fish for sand trout and sharks, while longer 8- and 12-hour trips venture up to 80 miles out into the Gulf to catch king mackerel and red snapper.

Artist Boat

The Artist Boat is a grassroots eco-focused organization that aims to educate and inspire the public with its coastal experiences. 

The company offers a unique tour combining two unexpected elements. The Eco Art Kayak Tour combines paddling and painting on a relaxed outing that's also great for younger kids.

The tour lasts about 4 hours and includes time to paint different scenes that inspire you on the journey, with watercolor demonstrations and supplies included. All skill levels are welcome.

Finney Boat and Watersport Rentals

Finney Boat and Watersport Rentals has the equipment to get you started if you're looking to take charge of your own Galveston boat tour. 

The company rents pontoons, catamarans, and yachts for the ultimate private day on the bay. Rentals start at 3 hours, but you can add more time and hire a captain if you don't want to drive.

This is also one of the best opportunities to catch a Galveston sunset . Finney Boat and Watersport Rentals also runs private one or two-hour dolphin watching and sunset cruises for small groups. 

Beachtown Tours

A different kind of Galveston boat tour, Beachtown Tours takes you out in a kayak to explore wetlands, islands, and other spots where bigger boats can't go. Standard tours offered during the day or around sunset last about two hours and are led by a guide.

The company also runs themed outings, where you can experience things like catching crabs from the company's traps or oyster picking from reefs (November through April). You can also rent kayaks to go out on your own adventure, with route suggestions from the pros.

Historic Harbor Tour

Hosted by the Galveston Historical Foundation, the Historic Harbor Tour and Dolphin Watch is a fun Galveston boat tour that sticks close to the island. You'll ride the U.S. Coast Guard-certified Seagull II, a twin-engine vessel big enough to hold a few dozen people.

On board, enjoy the shade of the open-air covered main deck or head up to the top deck for panoramic harborside vistas and sea breezes. The cruises last for about an hour, with narration from a professional local tour guide.

The tour is perfect for families since all ages are welcome, and kids aged five and under ride for free.

Galveston Port Bolivar Ferry

• Ride Time: 20 minutes each way.

Looking for free things to do on Galveston ? The Galveston Port Bolivar Ferry is the perfect way to get out on the water on a budget. 

The ferry shuttles cars and people across Galveston Bay between Galveston Island and the Bolivar Peninsula. Along the way, you can take in the views of the channel and look for wildlife.

While the ride is only about 20 minutes each way, you can turn the experience into a day trip by spending some time on the Bolivar Peninsula at the sandy Bolivar Beach. Of course, you also don't want to miss exploring the old bunkers and picnicking at Fort Travis Park. Be sure to check out their website for wait time information.

Angler Charters

Angler Charter boat tours range from 4-hour outings in the bay to 12-hour offshore excursions in the Gulf for opportunities to catch mahi mahi, sailfish, and blackfin tuna. They cater to beginners or pros, and kids are also welcome on board.

Galveston Island State Park

For outdoor fun on this island, just grab a towel and stop anywhere along the beach. Don’t be scared of the seaweed or seagulls — that’s just part of the Texas beach. One great place to get your fill of sunshine and sandcastle building is at Galveston Island State Park

Galveston Harbor Tour

Take a Harbor Tour to see the other side of Galveston Island on the Bay. You’ll cruise past ships and cruises going about their daily business, and you may even see dolphins swimming along side your ship and pelicans diving for a meal!

Shrimp & Stuff

When you cross over the Galveston Bay, whether by car or ferry, you’re sure to be hungry when you get here. One of my favorite spots on the island are Shrimp & Stuff for a mean shrimp po-boy where the islanders have been eating since 1976.

Benno's on the Beach

Benno’s on the Beach is a great dinner spot in an amazing location. Enjoy a casual but top-notch Cajun seafood experience with a great view of the Gulf of Mexico.

Moody Gardens

You’ll find just about everything within these three pyramids. Catch some rays on the white sand beach, get a look under the sea at one of the best aquariums in Texas or treat yourself to a tropical adventure in the 10-story Rainforest Pyramid.

Bishop's Palace

Check out this historic Texas-sized palace that was built for Colonel Walter Gresham and his wife Josephine. The house is so large that the Gresham’s took five years to build it from 1887 to 1892! It’s amazing to see all the intricate details in the house.

Tall Ship Elissa

Elissa was built in 1877 in Aberdine Scottland as a mercant ship for carrying all sorts of goods all over the world. This ship has been beautifully renovated by the Galveston Historical Foundation and touring it is like stepping back in time to Elissa’s glory days.

Galveston Diving

Diving offshore in Galveston is a unique and beautiful experience. During our day trips we will dive two sites that are located roughly 70 miles offshore or a 3 hour boat ride. Our primary dive site will either be Stetson Bank, part of the Flower Gardens National Marine Sanctuary, or the Kraken. The Kraken is a 371 foot cargo ship that Texas Parks and Wildlife sank as part of the artificial reef program. The dive begins at 60 feet with an average depth of 100-110 feet. The main cabins of the vessel have been opened up to accommodate divers. On this dive you will see everything from french angels to large jacks and grouper. After that, divers will have an hour to two hour surface interval with the opportunity to take a swim in the clear blue waters of the Gulf. The second dive will be at an oil rig. The legs of the oil rig are teeming with sponge and coral growth as well as fish species. You will have to opportunity to see everything from small file fish to larger grouper and maybe even a shark or two. These are usually 80 foot dives.

When do we run charters?

The best season is typically from March – October 

How long does it take?

Depending on seas, it can take around 2 ½ -3 hours to reach the dive sites. The entire day is typically around 12 hours.

How much does it cost?

The cost of the trip is $250 - $450 per person for the boat (dependent on day, trip selection and boat). We take 4 - 6 guests at a time. This price is just for the boat, but the shop is happy to provide any rentals needed.

How far in advance do you schedule?

These trips sell out quick! We have posted our entire 2023 season calendar on our local dives page under the calendar tab.

Where does it leave from?

Galveston Yacht Basin

What is the size of the boat?

Our rig trips depart on a 30 foot center console and our Kraken/Stetson trips depart on a 50 foot cabin cruiser with AC

What do I need to bring?

2 tanks, dive gear, computer, SMB, water, snacks (we recommend a light and a line cutter)

What dive skills are required?

Minimum of Advanced Open Water or confident Open Water diver. You will experience a current and greater depths than typical reef dives. 

Can I spearfish?

At this time, we are not spearfishing on our dive trips. However, you are welcome to bring a lionfish keeper and spear lionfish 

Once booked, day trips are non refundable and dates are non-transferable unless operator cancels or a replacement for seat is found.

For the historic harbor tour, we will embark on a discovery of the Galveston harbor, some of the amazing history it has to offer and also the wildlife that call it home. More than likely, we will have some dolphins cruise by to say hello as we make our way through the port. Depending on the day, cruise ships, big ships, other boats, barges and more can also be seen. This is a unique experience to see galveston from a different perspective, while also enjoying the privacy of being with your own group rather than a crowded tour boat.

The policy was written from the ground up as a stand-alone recreational boat rental insurance policy covering the period of time that the boat is being rented and is available for all non-commercially insured boats.

Does Boatsetter screen renters?

Yes. We use a system called Cognito to ensure that payment information matches the renter's identity. We also require renters taking out a captained boat to be at least 18 years old and on a bareboat to be at least 25 years old.

Is listing my boat on Boatsetter free?

Yes! Listing a boat is completely free. We only take a commission when your boat is rented. We only make money when you do!

What if I'm not comfortable having a renter drive my boat?

If you are not comfortable having a renter drive your boat, we have an expansive network of licensed and experienced captains. Once your boat is listed, you can filter through our network of captains and favorite captains in your area that you would like to operate your boat.

So this definitely was not the experience we were hoping to have. Our Captain showed up late it very much appeared that he was hungover and or he just didn't have any desire to be there. Everybody has their bad days but speaking as a former hunting and fishing guide ... Read More he had no interest in doing his job. If I wanted to sit on a boat and catch catfish I could have stayed home. He made no effort to go find fish. And again it really just came across as he didn't care if we were satisfied one way or another.

Trip was good. Timely departure, waters were nice. Unable to catch much fish that day, but fish were there just not biting. Overall experience was good. I liked Captain Shawn and will do future bookings.

RAILFEST: Model Train Rally

It’s model train rally time again at the Galveston Railroad Museum when RailFest returns April 27 – 28! Located at 2608 Santa Fe Place, the non-stop family fun is for all ages. Tickets are now online at galvestonrrmuseum.org .

In addition to large sized model trains moving along intricate track scenes, train enthusiasts will observe blacksmiths creating artwork from railroad track pieces in the Garden of Steam, and a second chance to view the ‘Trains Over Texas’ exhibit on loan from the Houston Museum of Natural Science. A celebration of Houston’s graffiti artists, the hand painted display was created by local street artists and muralists on an O Gauge scale. In addition, the ever- popular Lego model train display is returning.

What Is Gauge scale? On the real railroads as well as toy trains, Gauge refers to the distance between the outside rails of the track. G-Gauge (also known as Garden Gauge), S-Gauge and O-Gauge range in sizes 0-27, 1:25, 1:48, and 1:64. Visitors will see all sizes in operation at the event. As model train buffs have matured, train sets have grown in scale.

What can you expect at the rally? Collectors and enthusiasts showing off their model train sets that will be weaving in and out of the train depot, continuing onto the Garden of Steam. Larger than you can imagine these spectacular displays come with all the bells and whistles.

The hobby of building and running model train sets continues to evoke sentimental feelings and emotions. A two- day event, RailFest features train clubs and individuals from across the state who show off their spectacular trains for our enjoyment.

In addition to model trains, visitors are encouraged to explore the museum exhibits, enjoy entertainment, interactive activities, Depot Marketplace where vendors include Lego and the Museum store, where visitors can purchase model train sets. Ride a Caboose! Train rides on the Harborside Express will run throughout each day of RailFest and the Whistlestop Cafe will be open throughout the weekend with light food fare and refreshments. While here, consider becoming a member and enjoy benefits year-round.
