Life changing trip

Ive been to Hajj twice with Dome tours, however this umrah trip was surreal. We booked a typical umrah with the understanding that we will learn a little bit of seera on the side. What we didn't realised was that this trip will change our lives in different ways. Although I will admit, it was quite full on, sometimes tiring, but the lessons the sheikh's taught us in this journey has been life changing. The trip took us in a spiritual and emotional journey that's hard to explain. Highly recommend if you are having difficulty in your life or want to be more spiritually connected. I feel this trip is suitable for English speaking adults. Participants will need to have access to phone and headphone all the time. For anyone who don't mind spending less time in the Prophets mosque or the masjid al Haram due to the program schedule.

Last year I went for Hajj with Dome…

Last year I went for Hajj with Dome Tour, which amazing. I decided to go for Umrah this year in February, with them again. It was my obvious choice. The service, management and organisation were faultless. The guidance received from Sheikhs were eye opening, it transformed way of thinking. Easy tips to continue our lives in Prophet's teaching and to better ourselves. I would highly recommend all to book with them, either going on Hajj or Umrah

The experience was brilliant from start…

The experience was brilliant from start to finish. The organisation and level of care throughout the trip cannot be faulted. The sheikhs are very knowledgeable and personable and ensured everyone felt comfortable and included. I feel very privileged to have had this experience and would recommend to all. I want to express my thanks to all those involved and to the sheikhs for their time and knowledge shared with us. The zoom classes and classes held in the auditorium were very helpful and interactive, the inner presence dua is a method i will continue to use. The ziyarahs were well organised and explained well too. I will remember this trip fondly and enjoyed the company of others.

1st Umrah with Dome Tours

We travelled with Dome Tours for our 1st Umrah and the trip the trip with nothing short of fantastic. The first striking thing you notice is how well organised the logistic is. They think of everything to make the trip as smooth as possible. We had a great time with great company. Professional experience!

We went on an Umrah trip with them. It was very organised with a detailed itinerary that was followed throughout. We had lectures everyday with the Ustaads which allowed us to implement practical techniques to improve our relationship with Allah. I really enjoyed some of the additional tours we did whilst out there. All the Ustaads/ Sheikhs were incredibly knowledgeable, approachable and easy to speak to. It made our whole Umrah experience really easy and coming back home I feel I have lots I can continue implementing in daily life.

Jan 2024 Umrah Trip

I recently had the opportunity to embark on an Umrah trip and it was truly a remarkable experience. I chose to travel with a reputable travel agency and they exceeded my expectations in every aspect. From the moment I booked my trip, the agency provided exceptional customer service. They were prompt in responding to my inquiries and provided all the necessary information and guidance for a smooth journey. The booking process was seamless and hassle-free.

Excellent guides but poor organisation.

The guides were excellent, very helpful and informative. However, I have two complaints: Firstly the food provided at Arafat and Muzdalifa was poor. Secondly the company should have provided transport from Muzdalifa to Mina to Jamarat to Mecca. To expect elderly people to walk five and a half hours in 45 degrees centigrade heat is very unreasonable. Especially as we paid £13,000 each for our package!

Happy with Dome tours

Very excellent group to be a part of. Excellent service and overall great team. Provided us with a great communication platform. Informed us timely about being in the state of Ihram. Very patient leaders and very attentive. Helped us with our luggages. Helped with our duas. Answered all our questions. Took us on tours such as museums, mount Arafat etc. Gave us free 5l Zamzam water. Thank you to Abu hassan for guiding us through our umrah. He recited many duas with us together and performed Sai very well whilst keeping the group together. I would recommend them 1000x. May Allah bless the team and continue to support people through their journey. Stayed at movenpick and best hotel. Very close to haram. Literally 2-5 min walking distance. Stayed at Hilton in Makkah- bit of a hill but still pretty close by. The hill makes you a little tired and takes up energy you would like to keep. Still recommend both hotels and this agency. Definitely have a look into this agency.

I’ve been willing to travel with Dome Tours for a long time, and Allah SWT finally made it happen. I did not know on what kind of journey I was embarking on and it happened to be the best decision I took in 2023. I went to Hajj in 2013 with Dome Tours…

I went to Hajj in 2013 with Dome Tours and I had an amazing spiritual experience thanks first of all, to Allah (SWT), and last but not least to Dome Tours. This why this time my wife and I chose Dome Tours for Umrah. Again the experience was wonderful, thanks first of all, to Allah (SWT), and last but not least to Brother Abdelrahman and his staff at Dome Tours. Dome Tours has kept up its high standards. The booking process was straightforward and queries were efficiently dealt with, thanks to Brother Ibrar and Sister Ghizlan. Brother Abdelrahman Hilbawi was so engaging, so passionate and so knowledgeable; it was a real pleasure to follow him and listen to him during the visit to Jannat Al-Baqi, the walking tours to Masjid Quba and around the Haram Neighbourhood among other activities. Performing Umrah as a group under his inspiring and spiritual guidance was so overwhelming, so entrancing.

Great umrah experience in ds November…

Great umrah experience in ds November with Dome tours.We had ds umrah with our toddler.It was really helpful to do ds with Dome team.The whole team is careful and keeping patience as with toddler sometimes it is hard to maintain the pace.All the schedule was maintained with an excellent timing,very nice hotels and transport .Team Dome is true to their service and the costs are worthy. It was an amazing experience to learn directly in the whole tour from Shaikh @AbdelRahman_Helbawi who is very knowledgeable and humble personality. Alhamdulilah full journey was brilliant…

Alhamdulilah full journey was brilliant only on Wednesday ( the first day of Jamaraat) it could have guided better as we misunderstand and followed the wrong group from Dhyooful Bait ( American group going to Mina) so end up not going to Haram … Tawafe Ziyaara delayed till Friday . there should be more visible signs for people to recognise their group and guide .

MECCA, Saudi Arabia (AP) — It is a scene that stirs hope — and relief — for Muslims around the world.

A million pilgrims from across the globe gathered on Thursday in the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia to perform the initial rites of the hajj, marking the largest Islamic pilgrimage since the coronavirus pandemic upended the annual event — a key pillar of Islam.

The hajj is a once-in-a-lifetime duty for all Muslims physically and financially able to make the journey, which takes the faithful along a path traversed by the Prophet Muhammad some 1,400 years ago. Pilgrims spend five days carrying out a set of rituals intended to bring them closer to God.

That includes praying around the cube-shaped Kaaba, the holiest shrine in Islam. At the center of the Grand Mosque’s courtyard on Thursday, thousands of unmasked pilgrims circled the Kaaba.

The crowds, visibly thinner than usual, moved counter-clockwise around the granite building in a blur, their hearts tilting toward the structure meant to symbolize the oneness of God in Islam. Wherever they are in the world, observant Muslims face the Kaaba to pray daily.

Pilgrims appeared to throw COVID-19 caution to the wind this year as they thronged the Grand Mosque — in sharp contrast to the social distancing and mask requirements of the past two years.

“This year the number of pilgrims is huge, thank God,” said Mohammad Qabbani, a pilgrim from Sudan. “There are no high numbers of COVID-19 cases. The situation is good.”

But there were still signs of vigilance. Typically, worshippers would fight the crowds for a chance to touch and kiss the black stone on the Kaaba’s eastern corner, but the government has again banned this practice, for the third year. Saudi authorities also distributed bottles of water from the holy Zamzam well instead of allowing pilgrims to drink from cups at the mosque . Thousands of medical workers were on hand to assist those in need.

This year, the hajj is open to just 1 million foreign and domestic pilgrims who have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, tested negative for COVID-19 and are between 18 and 65 years old. Authorities estimate 85% have arrived from abroad.

While this year’s attendance is far below the pre-pandemic influx of 2.5 million pilgrims, it represents a significant step closer to normal after the kingdom restricted the event to a small number of Muslim residents for the past two years.

The ritual was almost scrapped in its entirety in 2020, when as few as 1,000 residents of Saudi Arabia were permitted to take part. Some 60,000 residents attended last year. The unprecedented restrictions sent shockwaves through the Muslim world and devastated many believers, who often save up and wait for years to make the pilgrimage.

Although no longer in the shadow of the pandemic, this hajj is taking place amid Russia’s war on Ukraine — a conflict that may be thousands of miles from the homes of many Muslims but that has sent the prices of staple foods soaring and spread misery across the world.

This year’s hajj also showcases de facto ruler Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s latest efforts to loosen social restrictions and transform the kingdom. Saudi Arabia officially began allowing women to perform the hajj without a male guardian, or “mahram,” last year.

The hajj in Islam is meant to be a great equalizer and unifier among Muslims. Pilgrims wear simple clothing: For men, it’s typical to wear a white draping garment, while women wear conservative dress and headscarves, forgoing makeup, nail polish and perfume to draw closer to God.

But even Mecca cannot escape the world’s wealth gaps: The well-heeled may pay some $3,000 a night for five-star hotels overlooking the Kaaba. For most people, however, the pilgrimage means sleeping in simple accommodations or on the ground around the mosque to perform daily prayers ahead of the hajj.

With many more people applying to perform the hajj each year than the kingdom can accommodate, the Saudi government controls the flow of visitors through annual quotas based on each nation’s Muslim population.

The visa regulations have grown stricter after deadly incidents in recent years. In 2015, several thousand pilgrims were crushed to death in a stampede. This year, those quotas were sharply reduced. Indonesia sent just over 100,000 people, the world’s largest contingent. The United States sent over 9,500.

Shiite powerhouse Iran, Saudi Arabia’s regional foe that in 2016 barred its citizens from making the pilgrimage amid an escalating sectarian rivalry, sent 39,000 worshippers — less than half of its attendance in 2019. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s special envoy for the hajj did not receive a visa because he is over 65, Iranian media reported.

As tensions eased between the rivals amid regional negotiations and a cease-fire in Yemen, hajj officials from the countries met last month for the first time in years.

Although the pandemic is far from over, with hundreds new infections a day in the kingdom, the government is glad of the influx. The event is a critical source of prestige and tourism for Saudi Arabia.

By Thursday evening, most pilgrims were arriving in Mina, a small village east of Mecca, where they will spend the night in a sprawling tent city grouped according to the part of the world they come from. On Friday, they rise at dawn to march to the sacred hill of Mount Arafat, where they ask for forgiveness for their sins.

New Saudi Rules on Pilgrimages Upend a Rite for New York Muslims

The hajj, a holy trip to Mecca that Muslims are encouraged to take once in their lives, used to be big business. Then the rules changed.

For more than two decades, Omar Elfeky’s Islamic travel agency in a Manhattan office tower did a brisk business booking flights and hotel rooms for American Muslims going on pilgrimages to Mecca.

Although Saudi Arabia had closed its borders early in the pandemic, business had picked up in recent months. But in June, just weeks before the hajj — the holier of two pilgrimages — was set to commence, the travel agency faced a new challenge: The Saudi government, which typically had a laissez-faire attitude toward Western pilgrims, tightened the rules.

Officials there introduced a new web portal that would dole out pilgrimage slots via lottery. The decision upended travel plans and cut out travel agents altogether.

Mr. Elfeky said the portal, which requires pilgrims to make their bookings directly through the Saudi government, spelled the end for his company, Al Eman USA. “It took us totally out of business,” he said.

“The last 25 years I have made my living from the hajj. I have five employees. The hajj is the biggest trip, and we all make our living from it,” he said. “What am I going to do?”

The hajj, which concludes Tuesday, includes Mecca and nearby holy sites. Muslims are required to complete it once in their lives if they are in good health and have the money to make the trip. It is also a major source of political and religious legitimacy for the Saudi government, which in 2019 allowed more than 1.8 million pilgrims into the country, according to the most recently available government data.

Over the centuries, a lucrative travel industry has grown up around the hajj and a similar pilgrimage that takes place throughout the year called umrah — an industry that stretches from luxury hotels in Mecca to storefront travel agencies in Queens.

In announcing the new lottery system, the country’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah said its goal was “to develop the digital experience for pilgrims” and “facilitate direct procedures and reduce costs at competitive prices.”

It is unclear how much money the new system might save pilgrims, and travel agents view the rules change as a cash grab by Saudi officials.

“Saudi Arabia makes a lot of money off this one way or another,” Mr. Elfeky said.

Saudi Arabia applies quotas to the number of pilgrims it allows each year from Muslim countries, but those from Europe, the Americas and Australia have not faced restrictions in the past. In 2018, the United States State Department estimated that 20,000 Americans went on hajj, spending hundreds of millions of dollars on travel packages that frequently cost more than $10,000 per person.

It was easy for large groups to travel together, like a group of more than 100 students from New York University who went on hajj in 2019 under the leadership of Khalid Latif, the executive director of the Islamic Center at New York University.

Going on hajj with a group allows people to travel with religious leaders they trust, who speak their language and know their culture, and who can help them understand and perform rituals, Mr. Latif said.

“ I was trying to take as many people as possible who wanted to go, just so the experience was one that allowed for them to go with people that they knew, a larger kind of communal experience,” he said.

Under the new system, each participant in a group trip like the one organized by Mr. Latif would have to win the lottery. The lottery results this year were announced, in some cases, just days before the hajj was set to begin.

After the rule change was announced last month, Mr. Latif, who was planning to lead another group this year that included people who canceled their trips in 2020 and 2021, advised participants to ask for refunds and delay their trips to a less “chaotic” year, he said. Some had saved money their whole lives.

Ismeil Chaiep, 65, the owner of El Medina Travel in Astoria, Queens, said the rule change has driven him out of business too. He gave refunds to 350 customers, including some who paid their deposits in 2020 and were hoping to finally make the trip this year.

“We could not handle it, the rent and the pay,” said Mr. Chaiep, who had 10 employees. “It was so hard to close. Now I do some work from home, but nobody can make any money now.”

Hajj packages with the travel agencies were not cheap.

Mr. Chaiep said some of the deposits he refunded were as high as $25,000. Mr. Elfeky said the average cost of an all-inclusive hajj package at his agency was $16,000.

At Friday prayers at Masjid El-Ber mosque in Astoria, a hub of the Bangladeshi community, stories abound of cousins and friends-of-friends whose hajj plans were scrambled at the last minute by the new rules.

But few people were willing to criticize the Saudi government, out of fear that they could be barred from entering the country in the future.

And few people at the mosque expressed much sympathy for the travel agencies. When the Prophet Muhammad instructed Muslims to go on hajj, he never said anything about travel agents, mused Emad Chowdhury, 68.

“I don’t feel sorry for those people because they take a lot of money from us — this charge and that charge, for nothing,” Mr. Chowdhury said. “Hajj should be simple.”

Mr. Chowdhury said his wife went on hajj a few years ago after she purchased a $14,000 package from Dar El Salam Travel, an Islamic travel agency in Manhattan. They saved all their lives for the trip, but in the end, they only had enough money for one person to go. He stayed behind because the $8,000 left in their savings wasn’t enough to buy a second package.

“I think this is a good thing for us, for pilgrims,” he said. “People maybe are confused now but this will be better.”

I just returned from a 10 day Hajj package and what can I say other than WOW! Dome Tours went above and beyond to support myself and fellow Hajjis on this once in a lifetime opportunity. From beginning to end, full itinerary provided, professionally presented, with the ability to download, staff always present to help us get through the airport check outs, provided with luggage tags, belts and backpack as they did come in handy, communication was excellent throughout the tour, top class stay at Amman due to airline delay we experienced from the onset had a rollover affect handled with due diligence and care accommodating everyone needs etc. group leaders covered exertions and had fully informed us of processes during our travel from madina to makkah. DT’s dedication is second to none

This year was my first year doing hajj or umrah, and after the horror stories I heard about Hajj last year I was very nervous and apprehensive. Alhamdulilah, Dome Tours exceeded all expectations. Before we even left the UK they weee taking care of us with an amazing seminar with a doctor and shuyookh available to answer any questions and the khutbah series to prepare us spiritually. Whilst we were there, the Dome Tours team made everything so smooth for us from an organisational point of view and the team were always on hand for any support or guidance we needed. Also, having a sheikh with us every step of the way was such an amazing spiritual experience. They looked after us physically, spiritually and emotionally so we were truly able to focus on our Ibadat knowing that everything else is taken care of. They take care of every little detail and support your religious, practical, even emotional (!) and travel needs

Dome Tours have got it right every time. Alhamdulillah, May Allah continue to make them strive and give people the best service possible. They care care of things we could not even imagine. Transfers can be a stressful experience during hajj/umrah yet these are taken care of with a coach service. They have helped taken care of things like lost baggage which is not even their responsibility! They will always remind you of the Deen and answer any Fiqh questions so you are able to complete your Hajj/ Umrah in confidence and remind you of what you are there for. Sheikh Abdel Rahman has a wonderful team where every staff member gives their full effort all the time. I had the perfect first Umrah experience with Dome Tours. I had travelled from Glasgow with a lot of family members, from the beginning the Sheiks and tour advisors were so helpful and knowledgeable they made us all feel at ease. I always felt as though I knew what I was to do, thanks to all the information they had provided us with. ‘The Easy Umrah Guide’ was a great idea to help understand the process of performing Umrah, I always had it on hand and could refer to it easily if I felt unsure and wasn’t able to get to one of the Dome Tours team members. Although, thanks to the bright pink and blue colours of the company it wasn’t hard at all to spot the team or the other members of the tour while we were travelling around Makkah and Madinah! Every single place we visited was incredible and left an impact on me. Alhamdulillah I am very grateful to Dome Tours for everything they did to provide my family and I with a wonderful Umrah experience.

We’d travelled for Hajj with Dome Tours in 2011, so we thought we’d perform Umrah with them again in March 2022. Dome Tours did not disappoint. On departure at Heathrow, their representatives were waiting for us with pre-printed luggage tags, luggage belts, and travel documents. This attention to detail exemplified the wonderful service we enjoyed throughout the trip. Our itinerary was for 10 days, cleverly constructed to allow us to experience Jumma prayers in both Mecca and Medina. Throughout the trip, the staff were accessible, informative and friendly. Nothing was too much for them. Of course, with a trip of this complexity, things can occasionally go wrong. But the staff immediately jumped in to sort out issues before they became significant. Being Arabic speakers augmented their already high standards of professionalism. We stayed in 5-star accommodation throughout. This is not boasting, it’s simply that these hotels are sited just outside the haram, meaning you spend minimal travelling to the mosque and more time in worship. This becomes extremely important at busy times, and means the difference between praying in the mosque or praying outside because inside accommodation capacity has been reached. The trip was punctuated with wonderful excursions (such as a visit to the kiswa factory, Medina museum, walking tours, and so on) which were included in the price. We were given full instructions on how to perform Umrah, along with superbly helpful tips and insights to get maximum benefit from our worship. All the staff were exceptional, but Sheikh Abdulrahman Helbawi added so much value for us in terms of his wise counsel, great humour, compassion, tolerance and wisdom. I feel I made every second of my journey count after following Abdulrahman’s advice. I took advantage of being in Saudi Arabia to independently travel to Jeddah to meet with a colleague. I found Abdulrahman waiting for me in the hotel lobby to ensure the taxi driver would charge me a fair price for the trip. This example sums up the high level of care we received by Dome Tours. We’re planning our next Umrah for November 2022, and we plan to use Dome Tours again, in’shallah. We weren’t planning to go again so soon, but this experience has generated a yearning in us to return as soon as practicable. My family and I wholeheartedly recommend this company.

The office team was also friendly and responsive with all my queries before my Umrah, especially as I was a single traveller, and alhamdulillah our whole group's umrah trip went successfully. The trip was well organised from start to finish and we were always kept informed too so we knew our daily itinerary or any updates. For example, all of our Hajj pilgrims are given our Hajj Essentials Collection, which are travel-friendly and functional items, such as an instant cooling towel, pain alleviating cream, a Tawaf friendly umbrella, and much more…

We also ensure that our pilgrims are accompanied by doctors and scholars to tend to every health need and question. These facilities are just one of the ways we help to ease the strenuous journey to Makkah and Madinah as much as possible.
