A comp of the EastEnders set and characters including Peggy and Phil Mitchell

EastEnders has become one of the most ubiquitous shows on our screens since it first aired in 1985.

And it’s not just the characters and storylines that have kept us watching – but also the famous setting of Walford and Albert Square, both of which have become synonymous with the soap as the Mitchells and the Beales.

Walford is, of course, a fictional part of London ’s East End – and Albert Square itself is fictional, too.

So, since its setting doesn’t really exist, just where exactly is the soap filmed? And can you visit the set?

Here’s what you need to know.

Where is EastEnders filmed?

The BBC One soap isn’t filmed out and about like many TV shows are, but has its own purpose-built set at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.

A new, £87 million set at Elstree has been in the works for years, but will finally appear on screens in April 2022 – with the cast having begun filming t h e r e in January 2022 .

The upgraded set is wider, made of real brick and has an aged look to it – though there are new areas and a lick of paint for old favourites such as Beale’s Plaice and The Queen Vic pub.

Chinese restaurant Eastern Blossom, painted in a lovely yellow, is on one of the lot’s new roads – and you can also see the garages and gardens at the back of residents’ houses.

Former producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins first announced plans to refresh the set in 2014, saying: ‘It should feel more like London. It’s been frozen in aspic for too long…

‘You’ll see the edges of Shoreditch creeping into EastEnders. It’s got to reflect the modern world.’

Originally, the set was due to be built by 2018, with the estimated budget put at £60 million or so – but it was revealed that year that work had gone £27m over budget.

Fans were given a sneak preview update about the new set in 2021 , when it was close to being completed.

Where did EastEnders film before the new set was done?

While the current set is brand new, the soap has filmed at Elstree since 1985 – with the original set built in 1984 with the specification that it should last at least 15 years.

Both the interior and exterior scenes are filmed on the set, with the initial set-upconsisting of three sides of Albert Square.

The fourth was added in 1986, while further addition Turpin Road arrived in 1987, and Tube station Walford East was added in 1993.

Back in 2008, it was reported that filming was set to transfer to the famous Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.

Alas, by 2010 it had been confirmed that Elstree would remain the home of EastEnders for a number of years – and the set underwent another rebuild.

During this particular rebuild, scaffolding was often seen on the set, with some storylines – such as the Queen Vic fire – reportedly written into the show to accommodate this.

Can you visit the set of EastEnders?

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to visit the EastEnders set – as much fun as it would be.

Unlike ITV rival Coronation Street, which offers weekend tours when the soap’s not being filmed, the EastEnders set is not open to the public due to the production schedule.

To be fair, it would be a bit strange to see a guided tour happening in the background of an episode…

EastEnders airs from Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One, with recent episodes available on iPlayer.

Studios at Elstree Elstree was a major centre for film production from the early days of cinema. There’s a great deal of confusion about which studios at Elstree were used for which movies / TV shows.

This page covers  BBC Elstree Centre  (also known as Clarendon Road Studios, Neptune Studios, Rock Studios, National Studios, ATV Studios, Central TV Studios).  The location has been used for movie / TV production since 1914 and has been the home of BBC Soap ‘Eastenders’ since 1985 (see below)

Unfortunately there are  no public tours of the Eastenders Sets or of the studio itself at any time .

This gritty and groundbreaking BBC soap opera has been based at the BBC Elstree Centre since day one back in 1985. The soap is based in the fictional London borough of Walford in the east end. The Albert Square permanent exterior set was designed by the late Keith Harris, the senior designer in the EastEnders production team. Extensions including a fictional Tube station have been added over the years. In 2014 it was announced that a new, 20% larger exterior set would be built for EastEnders, within the BBC Elstree Centre grounds. Following planning permission, construction work took place in 2015 & 2016 to prepare the new site. Although it was originally planned to have the new sets operational by 2018, it’s now believed that part of the set will be available from 2019, with the entire development not complete until 2020.

Tours of EastEnders:

Unfortunately there are no public tours of the Eastenders Sets or of the studio itself at any time . This has never been possible due to the production schedule and additional security concerns. Please do not contact this website about tours, as there are none available. Some BBC facilities offer tours (but NOT this location) so please check the BBC Tours website for more information.

History of the BBC Elstree Centre site

Percy Nash and John East, early British filmmakers, built Neptune Studios at Boreham Wood, near Elstree village. Although conveniently close to London, it was far enough away from the metropolis that the air was clear of smog and traffic fumes. One of the stages was over 70 feet in length and was described as the first ‘dark’ stage in Europe as it had no glazed roof and relied totally on artificial illumination.

Neptune Studios closes due to World War 1, and the site is bought by the Ideal Film Company.

Ideal Films moves out of the premises.

Ludwig Blattner, inventor of an early sound recording system, took over the studios, making them the last in the Elstree area to be converted for sound recording.

The studios are leased by Joe Rock, an American producer, the same year as Blattner committed suicide.

Joe Rock buys the studios outright (now known as  Rock Studios ) and constructs the four main stages, still in use today as studios A-D. This major investment ensured the future use of the studios for many years to come.

The Rock Studios are taken over by  British National Films , and almost immediately, the studios are taken over by the government for war dutues. After the war British National Films continued to make films on the site, now known as  National Studios .

The studios go dark for five years.

Douglas Fairbanks Jr buys the studios. He uses the four stages to make filmed TV programmes for the American company NBC. His initial contract was for an astonishing 39 films as well as many commercials. Many of the short films made for the US market were shown in the UK as part of  Douglas Fairbanks Presents  from 1955 .

May: Lew Grade’s  ATV  purchases the former National Film Studios.

One by one the four studios are brought into use as (at the time) state-of-the-art television studios. Many classic TV series used the ATV facilities:  Robin Hood ,  Lancelot ,  The Saint  (with Roger Moore),  The Persuaders  and TV specials for stars such as Shirley Bassey and Tom Jones. Later,  The Muppet Show started life here, along with  Emergency Ward 10 ,  The Plane Makers ,  The Power Game ,  Sergeant Cork ,  The Golden Shot  (game show),  Sapphire and Steel ,  Tiswas  (Saturday morning kids show) and the first 13 episodes of  Carry on Laughing .

ATV lost it’s London TV franchise and was reshaped into Central TV. Central remained at Elstree while their new facilities in Nottingham were constructed. Many staff (and much equipment) moved to Nottingham when the studios there were finished.  Auf Wiedersehen Pet  filmed at the studio in the meantime.

16th January – The official documents are signed, transferring ownership of the site to the BBC, and it’s renamed  The BBC Elstree Centre . Popular BBC shows including  Grange Hill ,  Top of the Pops  and  Kilroy  move to the new site. The backlot area formerly used as the  Auf Wiedersehen Pet  building site is used to construct the exterior Albert Square sets for  EastEnders .

19 February:  Eastenders  debuts on BBC1 television, and the Albert Square sets are seen for the first time.

Holby City , a spin-off of BBC medical drama  Casualty  (filmed in Bristol) starts filming at Elstree, using Neptune House, one of the existing BBC office buildings, as the hospital.

The Times reports that Eastenders may shift production to another location (e.g. Pinewood Studios) due to the deteriorating quality of the 25 year old sets at Elstree. The original sets were never designed for this length of run, and under the unforgiving HD cameras, the fake brickwork and wooden walls are beginning to be very obvious. >  Link to The Times article

Eastenders is to remain at Elstree ‘for the foreseeable future’, with sets being upgraded when necessary.

Work is underway to prepare a new site slightly east of the existing location for an expanded Albert Square, with higher quality sets, some of which may be practical. Build cost is believed to be £15million. > Link to The Guardian article about the move > Link to Metro article about delays to the work

The BBC begins the process of selling the studio property to French insurance company Axa. A 25-year lease will be in place for the BBC to lease back part of the facilities to continue to film there. The purchase is due to complete in 2024.  > Link to Financial Times article about the sale

Holby City - Borehamwood

As well as fictional Walford, the hit hospital drama was set up in North London, right by Barnet.

Outnumbered - Wandsworth

Possibly the most relatable show ever was set and filmed in a nice semi-detached, three floor house in Wandsworth.

The Bill - Colliers Wood

The fictional Borough of Canley, policed by officers in The Bill, is more like Tower Hamlets - and Sun Hill police station was even once stated as being in Wapping. However, it was filmed in Colliers Wood.

Ashes to Ashes - Bermondsey

Introduction by Dreek Biesiot Directed by Eddy Habbema - Vara - 1993 Soap series about the residents of the Rotterdam neighborhood 'The old north'. The data for the series came from the well-known series Eastenders, but the Dutch version only lasted one season. With design assistant Nick de Weerd I designed a square in the working-class neighborhood and all the interiors. The Burgemeester Roosplein is such a small, normal square. A greengrocer, Surinamese toko, dump shop and a launderette. In the middle a small playground with some seesaw chickens and a telephone booth. Director Eddy Habbema preferred to shoot everything on location, but that turned out to be very expensive. The facades and streets of the square are therefore 'real' - of (brick) stone and wood - only at the back you can see that it is a decor. The interiors are in a studio in Almere.

EastEnders Set Budget

In 2014, then executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins said that he wanted Albert Square to look like a real-life east London neighbourhood so that the soap would "better reflect the more fashionable areas of east London beloved of young professionals" giving a flavour of the "creeping gentrification" of east London. A temporary set will be created on-site to enable filming to continue while the permanent structure is rebuilt.

The new set (Project name E20) would increases the size of the set by 20% compared to the original set and the project will be managed by Jenkins Design Services Ltd.

In May 2016 the rebuild was delayed until 2020 and forecast to cost in excess of £15 million , although the main part of the set is scheduled to be able to start filming in May 2019. In December 2018, it was revealed that the new set was now planned to cost £59 million but a National Audit Office (NAO) report stated that it would actually cost £86.7 million and be completed two-and-a-half years later than planned, in 2023.

It was completed ahead of schedule and began being used in February 2022. The first episode on the new set aired on February 28 2022

The BBC has sold its Elstree Centre property, which includes the iconic Albert Square set for long-running soap “ EastEnders ,” to global investment giant AXA IM Alts.

As part of the transaction, AXA IM Alts will lease part of the studio campus back to the BBC for 25 years.

“The sale of the Elstree Centre site is part of an ongoing review of the BBC’s property portfolio in order to provide the best value for licence fee payers,” BBC CFO Alan Dickson said. “As part of the sale, the ‘EastEnders site’ has been secured on a long-term lease and Elstree will continue to be the home of Albert Square.”

Popular on Variety

The deal has taken place at a time when the BBC is looking to find significant annual savings , currently estimated at £500 million. In August 2023, the historic Maida Vale Studios in London was sold by the BBC to a four-way partnership between Working Title chairs Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner and two-time Oscar winner Hans Zimmer and his business partner Steven Kofsky.

In December 2023, the U.K. government raised the BBC’s annual license fee – where the bulk of the corporation’s income comes from – by £10.50 to £169.50, lower than what the corporation expected, causing a funding gap of £90 million.

The Elstree acquisition is AXA IM Alts’ first investment into the U.K.’s TV and film studio market and was undertaken on behalf of clients. It follows the investment company’s acquisition of one of France’s largest studio complexes, the Bry-sur-Marne studios, in 2023.

“The TV and film studios sector remains one of our conviction asset classes, being underpinned by increasing demand from an ever-broader array of production houses, content creators and broadcasters. This is coupled with very limited supply of high-quality modern film and production space, particularly in and around London where new construction is hindered by a lack of available land in the right locations.”

Prince Charles Shares 'Special' Moment with Soap Star During Set Visit with Camilla: 'What a Gentleman'

Prince Charles brought the charm during a visit to the set of the long-running BBC drama EastEnders

eastenders visit set

Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall are ready for their close-ups!

The royal couple visited the set of EastEnders on Thursday to meet the cast and crew of the long-running popular BBC drama, which premiered in 1985, as they filmed a special scene tied to Queen Elizabeth .

The pair watched as the cast filmed scenes that feature the residents of Albert Square celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee at a street party, just as those around the nation will be celebrating Queen Elizabeth's milestone in June .

During their visit, Charles and Camilla met and chatted with the cast, including Gillian Taylforth, who has appeared on the show since the first episode, and Rose Ayling-Ellis, who competed on Strictly Come Dancing (the U.K. version of Dancing with the Stars !). Camilla even revealed that the royal family watched rooted for Ayling-Ellis on the reality series.

Charles unexpectedly shared his knowledge of the show's storylines when he talked about how one of EastEnders' beloved couples are no longer together. And in a sweet moment, he offered his coat to actress Letitia Dean after he noticed she was cold as he and Camilla took a photo with the cast.

"Today was a very special day for all at EastEnders. As a company, we are all incredibly proud of the show we make but to have a visit from the royal family makes it all the more special," Dean said of the visit.

"To have the opportunity to mark the Queen's upcoming Platinum Jubilee with a visit from The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall was just beautiful and it will go down in EastEnders history but it was made all the more special for me when The Prince of Wales handed me his coat to keep me warm – what a gentleman, what a couple, what as we say in EastEnders a proper family."

Executive producer, Chris Clenshaw, adds: "We at EastEnders are all so incredibly grateful that The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall came to visit EastEnders as we filmed our special episode that shows the residents of Albert Square celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, just as those around the country will be doing this summer."

"We cannot thank them enough for taking the time to come to Walford, this is one moment that will go down in EastEnders history as we all celebrate 70 years of Her Majesty's reign. Today was truly an honor."

Inside EastEnders’ eerie abandoned set left to ruin after soap moves to new £87m location

  • Ellie Henman
  • Published : 15:00, 16 Mar 2022
  • Updated : 16:29, 16 Mar 2022

EASTENDERS’ fans can now look inside the abandoned set after the BBC moved to their brand new £87million location.

Soap bosses upped sticks earlier this year and are now producing the world famous series from the BBC’s Elstree Centre .

The Queen Vic on the old EastEnders set is now abandoned

The EastEnders set was deemed no longer fit for purpose back in 2016 and work began on the multi-million pound new location which is suitable for HD filming.

It was originally built when the show launched in 1984 .

The set was only intended to be used for two years but the production continued there for decades.

Workmen were photographed taking down parts of the set at the beginning of the year.

These new photographs reveal the set is now completely empty – aside from equipment boxes and old props.

Fans had not before seen inside the The Queen Vic’s famous bar - as inside scenes took place at another location - and it's not much to write home about.

Inside the room which sit behind the famous boozer's frontage are just a worn old bar and pieces of wood.

Kathy’s Café is also unrecognisable on the inside and fans will not have seen before the empty shell.

Wires hang down from the ceiling and rubbish litters the floors and window sills.

Mitchell & Panesar Autos, or as fans know it as The Arches , has hardly changed from the outside.

But after stepping through the doors all the props have been taken away – with just a plastic chair and some old wall insulation left behind.

Elsewhere on the now desolate set, props left behind by the team have been abandoned in crates.

Bottles of milk and cans from the minute mart have been stacked to one side, alongside boxes of wires.

Soap bosses have moved the iconic soap to the new £87million set

Remnants of old episodes can also be seen, with instructions scrawled onto one of the set walls about not removing props needed for a live episode.

The gym at 9 Turpin Road, known recently as being called Crunch Time, still remain standing.

But rather than running machines inside there are wrapped up props and traffic cones.

On The Spot Cash pawnbrokers has wooden boards lying outside it while Coker & Sons Funeral Directors appears largely untouched.

Walford East Tube Station also appears to have been left almost entirely intact, with the cash machine, newspaper stands and phones still standing.

The police station, the polish delicatessen and the main square are also still in good nick.

EastEnders ’ new updated set is an almost identical replica and includes additions like a block of flats and a railway tunnel.

Announcing the move previously, the BBC said in a statement: “The set of EastEnders was built in 1984 and only intended for use for two years

“Over 30 years later, the show remains one of the BBC’s flagship programmes and yet is filming from a set that is no longer fit for purpose.

The iconic EastEnders set has been sold by the BBC — here's why

The BBC has confirmed that they have sold the EastEnders set at the Elstree Centre, but what does this mean for the future of the soap?

The Albert Square sign on the set of EastEnders

The EastEnders set and other studios at Elstree have been sold to insurance company Axa as part of a drive to raise funds.

The 16-acre site is home to Albert Square, providing the backdrop for the beloved BBC One soap, as well as housing seven stages, a workshop, office, and post-production facilities.

But fans don't need to worry, as Axa has agreed to lease part of the studio campus for 25 years, meaning  EastEnders   will still be filmed on-site for the foreseeable future.

The BBC's chief financial officer Alan Dickson said: "The sale of the Elstree Centre site is part of an ongoing review of the BBC's property portfolio in order to provide the best value for licence fee payers.

"As part of the sale, the EastEnders site has been secured on a long-term lease and Elstree will continue to be the home of Albert Square."

Meanwhile, Axa said it would redevelop the historic Elstree complex to capitalize on the high demand for UK film and TV studios.

John O'Driscoll, global co-head of real estate for AXA IM Alts, said: "The structure of the transaction allows the BBC to continue its production on the site for at least another 25 years while providing us with the opportunity to invest in the site to create new world-class studios.

Even though Yolande needs her faith more than ever, she will go through a tough period following being assaulted by Pastor Clayton. Yolande will be seen avoiding the church and will find herself in a difficult situation despite being urged to go back by her husband Patrick and the pastor.

This will put her relationships-especially with her husband-to the test as she struggles to deal with her past and the memories brought on by Pastor Clayton's presence.

3) Jay and Nadine's revelation

When Nadine reappears in Jay Brown's life and tells him she is expecting his child, he will be taken aback. Even though Jay first had his doubts regarding the baby's paternity, he will ultimately decide to believe Nadine when she says that she and the child are now his responsibility.

As they deal with the difficulties and feelings that come with this new reality, Jay, Lexi, and their loved ones will have to make important decisions due to this unexpected turn of events on EastEnders .

4) Billy's marathon mishaps

Walford is excited about the London Marathon, but Jay's preoccupation with Nadine's pregnancy announcement will likely deter him from participating. Billy will face and navigate through multiple obstacles en route to the starting line.

The EastEnders characters' struggles and relationships will be set against the backdrop of the marathon.

5) Whitney's secret threatened

Britney being in Whitney's care will remain a secret and questions will arise as Britney faces difficulties in getting registered with the local general practitioner or GP.

Whitney will feel pressured to tell the truth now that Lauren is aware of the same, which could result in a fight. Lauren will make a bold move, which would possibly cause Zack to learn the truth.

6) Patrick's concern for Yolande

Yolande's relationship with Patrick will be strained as a result of her dealing with memories from her past. Patrick does not realize what is causing her distress and believes she needs to be cheered up. He will be seen trying to lift her spirits and rekindle their passion, however, this will trigger Yolande.

The situation will leave him confused and worried about Yolande.

7) Jade's choice

Jade will be seen confused as she receives a letter from Dean asking her to visit him in jail. Stacey and Jean will worry about Jade meeting her dad and will try and talk her out of it.

While this seems to work at first, Avani's conversation with Jade will encourage her to look at the situation from a different perspective.

8) Britney's school troubles

The situation involving Whitney and Zack will get more complicated due to Britney being bullied at school. Their reactions to the harassment and Whitney's natural desire to step in will test their capacity to deal with the difficulties of taking care of Britney.

This storyline will emphasize the EastEnders characters' dedication to defending the people they love and the consequences of their decisions.

9) Nadine's guilt and Jay's determination

The upcoming episode will also focus on Nadine feeling guilty after Jay showcases his dedication to her and the child. Jay will make it clear that he is determined to act in the best interests of her and the child.

This guilt, combined with Jay's unwavering support, will shape their interactions and the trajectory of their relationship in EastEnders .

10) Jade's meeting with Dean

After initially being uncertain about visiting Dean in jail, Jade will make her way to the prison and speak to her dad, who will open up about the allegations against him. He will continue to maintain his innocence about his involvement in Keanu's murder as Jade will be seen choosing whether or not to believe his claim.

She will also be seen working through the emotional difficulties of her relationship with her father as this will mark a turning point in their relationship.

Many listeners noticed similarities between the track and the Pet Shop Boys ’ 1987 hit ‘It’s A Sin’ , which Alexander has covered himself.

During a recent interview with NME , the band’s Neil Tennant, addressed the observations. “When I read people saying it sounded similar, I immediately listened to it and I don’t think it does,” he said.

2026 Prospect Camden Jensen Gets Set for Huskers Visit

6-foot-7 Denver-area tight end will be at Nebraska's spring game Saturday

  • Author: Caleb Sisk

In this story:

Nebraska football is hosting plenty of visitors this weekend as the Huskers are set to play their annual spring game.

One of the visitors who will be making it to campus is Camden Jensen from Heritage High School in Littleton, Colorado.

Jensen is a four-star tight end who is ranked as high as 178th nationally (Rivals) in the class of 2026. His most eye-catching feature is his height. He has a 6-foot-7, 220-pound frame.

He holds many offers including Nebraska, Tennessee, Kansas and more.

Jensen had a preview to share with Nebraska.

“I expect the culture of Nebraska football to be shown and shown proudly,” Jensen stated to HuskerMax.

Nebraska's spring game will be the first public showing of five-star freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola.

“I look forward to seeing Dylan Raiola play in this one,” Jensen said.

Jensen hopes to speak with two coaches specifically on his trip to Lincoln.

“I look forward to speaking to Coach (Marcus) Satterfield (offensive coordinator and tight end coach) and hopefully Coach (Matt) Rhule (head coach) if given the chance.”

With Jensen being a tight end, it is likely a huge deal to him that coach Satterfield is not only the tight ends coach but the offensive coordinator, which means there could be heavy tight end sets in favor of him in his position.

He went into detail about his recruiting board and where Nebraska stands.

“Nebraska is very high on my recruiting board because of how they have treated me and the teammates and my coaching staff at my school.”

It is important to dissect his quote and mention of his teammates. The hospitality the Nebraska staff has shown to his teammates is noteworthy to him and could be something that other teams just aren’t doing.

Jensen went on to explain that Nebraska “deserves a visit because of the winning culture they have had in the past. I hope to see if coach Rhule keeps that culture going.”

Zurich Classic set for dramatic finish with Rory McIlroy/Shane Lowry two back in team debut

Change Text Size

After his partner put his approach shot in the water on the 16th, Rory McIlroy calmly knocked a wedge to about 20 feet and rolled in the curling birdie putt, celebrating with a fist pump.

“Rory McIlroy had shown up,” according to partner Shane Lowry, as McIlroy made birdies on his own ball on Nos. 9, 10, 11, 13, 16 and 18. The Irish duo are firmly in the mix through 54 holes at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

McIlroy – who is making his debut at this event this week – and Lowry shot an 8-under 64 Saturday at TPC Louisiana. They’re just two shots back of the lead held by Zac Blair and Patrick Fishburn at 23-under heading into Sunday’s finale, with Luke List and Henrik Norlander (who finished tied for 23rd together last year) in second at 22-under.

McIlroy and Lowry are tied with Ryan Brehm and Mark Hubbard for third.

There are a few TOUR winners hovering around the top of the board (including last year’s runners-up Nick Taylor and Adam Hadwin among the four teams a shot back of McIlroy and Lowry at 20 under) but the major-winning pedigree held by McIlroy and Lowry, clad again in matching outfits Saturday – blue polos and khakis for the third round – should help give them a bit of a spring in their step for Sunday.

“I think today was about staying patient knowing that the course was going to present some opportunities, especially on that back nine, and I think our patience was rewarded with the chances that we gave ourselves and rolled a couple of putts in on the back and kept ourselves in it,” McIlroy said.

Rory McIlroy sinks clutch birdie putt at Zurich Classic

McIlroy and Lowry – friends for about 25 years – started slowly, going out in 3-under, but made three birdies in the first four holes after making the turn and shot 5 under on the back nine.

They were only 1-under through six holes and saw Fishburn and Blair put a bow on their 12-under 60 effort – just one shot off the Four-ball scoring record.

“We absolutely finished strong," McIlroy said. "It was a tricky day. The wind was blowing. We had some chances early on that we didn't take advantage of. We birdied the two par 5s on the front nine and then we definitely got it going around the turn. I hit a lovely shot into (hole) 9 and was able to convert that, and I think that gave us some really good momentum going into the back nine."

Making a birdie at the ninth, McIlroy continued, was a “game changer.”

“I think that 6-iron he hit into (hole) 9 and he rolled the putt got us going, and from there on in, it was Rory McIlroy at his best, and it was a joy to watch,” Lowry added.

“I knew we had a lot of holes to play, but certainly when we were 1-under through 6 and a long way down the leaderboard, I knew we needed to get something going.”

No matter where a duo ended up on the leaderboard, the winds at TPC Louisiana were a scoring speedbump on Saturday. The teams all had to navigate the blustery blows.

“It’s a pretty similar direction as the rest of the week but just a lot stronger,” said Hubbard, after his team shot an 8-under 64. "There's just some holes out here that even if you know it's blowing one direction, like (Nos.) 9 and 18, they should play a little down off the right and for some reason they always seem to have a little hurt on those approach shots – and they're tough shots into those greens. To have to trust a certain club or certain line that you might not be comfortable with, that's tough.”

The wind is set to be a factor again on Sunday, where the final round will once again be alternate shot.

That’s a format where anything can happen, but McIlroy said to be just two back of the lead is a solid position to be in. He and Lowry are eager to make a final-round move and return to the winner’s circle on the PGA TOUR.

“I thought it was important to finish the way we did,” McIlroy said, “excited to have a chance to win tomorrow.”
