Absolutely horrific customer service!

Was on the chat line for almost 2 hours… Because of course now you can’t even use a phone number to speak to an actual person. Two people on the other end could not figure out why I couldn’t check in for my flight tomorrow. And it showed that frontier owed me $39. And they also had me in the wrong seat in the middle of some people. They don’t have me sitting with my cousin, and I paid for my seat! Long story short, I was the one who figured out the problem and changed my seat to an aisle seat the $39 refund came off and the money part was rectified and I was able to check in on my I’ll seat, ON MY OWN!!!! I have been a den member since 2014 and advocated for Frontier….well, NO MORE! SIMPLY AWFUL NOT BEING ABLE TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE ON THE PHONE. And all of this because the flight that we took to Florida was canceled and we had to change the flight back as well! I also spent over two hours on the chat line yesterday trying to understand why a $50 certificate given to us for compensation for the canceled flight can only be used towards the base fare which of course was only $10! And you cannot save the remaining part of the certificate it must be used at one time. I now believe that frontier airline should be reported to the Better Business Bureau.

Only a 5 star so more people can see how bad it is! Absolutely terrible!

Never fly Frontier, they have the absolute worst customer service and the app gave us an error which took about 30-45 mins in line to fix. Then, we had to go back through bag check and get our boarding passes, taking a total of around an hour and a half just to get our bags checked! Then, when trying to board our plane, they said the tennis rackets we were carrying were not personal items!! It was 2 tennis rackets in a bag, but because it was just a little too long they didn’t allow it, even though it is maybe 3 inches thick at max and couple feet long, it barely didn’t fit inside of the personal item check. Then, they charged us 100$ for the carry on! If I knew it wasn’t considered a personal item I probably would’ve just brought my big tennis bag instead of my small one. Frontier is hands down the absolute worst company i have ever had the displeasure of flying with. I would not recommend this airline to any person, as it is all trouble and a pain.

NEVER USE APP OR THIS AIRLINE

Never again will we fly Frontier. Tried to check into our flights the day before leaving, the app wouldn’t allow it so we contacted Frontier Airline customer support. They told us this happens a lot, that the flight was still on and to show up to the airport at least 3 hours early to check in. We arrived to the airport and nobody was at the frontier desk. We were told by airport employees that the flight was still on and that frontier should be at the desk anywhere from 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours before the flight. We were nervous so we began to contact Frontiers customer support. We waiting on hold until an hour and a half before the flight before being told by a frontier employee that the flight was canceled (months ago) but the day before was told it was still active and to come to the airport. When we became upset over this the frontier employee cancelled our flights on the spot, told us we couldn’t talk to a manager, informed us we were not getting our money back and hung up on us. This entire experience (our honeymoon) was then completely shifted because we needed to buy tickets that day at the airport (for a huge markup). Worst flying experience of our life. This is by far the worst airline, customer support, app, service you could use. Save yourself the headache, debt and stress. They will literally steal your money USE ANY OTHER AIRLINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every airline offers flight credits for canceled or changed flights, and the way they work varies by airline. You don't want those credits to go to waste or expire; knowing when — and how — to use flight credits is an important part of maximizing the value from your travels.

Here’s what you need to know about getting and using flight credits on Frontier Airlines.

How Frontier Airlines flight credits work

As of May 2024, Frontier doesn't charge change or cancellation fees on economy, premium and business fares. Only basic fares are subject to change and cancellation fees.

Here are how the fees break down for basic fares:

Within 24 hours of booking, you can cancel for no fee.

After 24 hours, you can cancel, but may be charged a cancellation fee.

With 60 or more days to departure, there is no cancellation fee.

From 59 to seven days, the cancellation fee is $39.

Six days or less before departure, the cancellation fee is $59.

Regardless of fare class, though, you can get flight credits with Frontier Airlines if you cancel a flight.

If you cancel your flight, you will get a flight credit for the value of your itinerary, minus the cancellation fees as outlined above, if applicable. If you change your flight, you won't get a flight credit for future use — even if you changed to a flight with a lower cost.

What else you need to know

Where to find your frontier airlines flight credits.

Once you've gotten a Frontier Airlines flight credit, you can see it in two different places. The first place is on your myFRONTIER account page. All of your transaction activity will be displayed on the bottom of this account page.

Because Frontier Airlines flight credits are associated with a particular reservation, there is one other place that you can see your flight credits: Enter your last name and the six-digit reservation code for your flight on your My Trips page. This will bring up any flight credits that are associated with that reservation.

Expiration dates

Frontier Airlines flight credits expire 12 months from the date of issuance.

Other considerations

It's important to note a few things regarding flight credits on Frontier Airlines:

You cannot redeem these flight credits for cash. They must be used for future travel on Frontier Airlines.

Frontier flight credits are nontransferrable. The name on the new reservation using the credit must match the name on the first reservation exactly.

Flight credits with Frontier are one-time use. If the value of your flight credit is more than the value of the new ticket you're purchasing with the credit, you won't get any residual value back.

How to book flights with your Frontier credit

Once you have a Frontier flight credit, it is fairly straightforward to use it to book another flight. The first thing that you'll want to do is to search for your new flight on the airline's website, just like you would for any other Frontier flight. Then, you'll go through the standard checkout, where you'll be prompted to purchase baggage add-ons or seat assignments .

When you get to the payment page, you'll use your Frontier Airlines credits to pay for the flight. Underneath where you would enter your credit card, there is a section where you can enter the Frontier credit information.

find my trip frontier

You'll see that just below this credit card section is an area to "Add Additional Payment." Click on "Credit with Frontier" and input your email address and the confirmation code (or your Frontier Miles number). Your flight credit will be retrieved and the value will be automatically deducted from your total.

Pay the balance as usual if the new flight is more expensive than the credit.

Frontier Airlines also has vouchers, known as electronic travel certificates. These are 17-digit certificates and typically expire after 90 days. You can learn more about vouchers at Frontier’s FAQ page.

The bottom line

You can get flight credits on Frontier Airlines from canceling an existing reservation. Any value from the reservation (minus cancellation fees, if applicable) will be issued as a Frontier Airlines flight credit.

These flight credits do expire, so you'll want to make sure to book new travel before the expiration date. Once you have a Frontier credit, you can apply it as a form of payment at the end of the booking process for your new flight.

Frequent flyer guide to the Frontier Miles program

Key takeaways.

  • F rontier Miles, Frontier Airlines' frequent flyer program, lacks many of the bells and whistles of other airline loyalty programs, such as broad redemption options and the ability to upgrade to premium cabins.
  • However, Frontier Airlines is one of the most affordable carriers for flights with the U.S. and select international destinations — and Frontier Miles comes with unexpected perks, like the ability to reach the program's top elite status through credit card spending alone.
  • Before counting the program out, take the time to review its unique advantages and disadvantages to see how they align with your future travel plans.

If you’re looking for a cheap way to fly within the United States or to a handful of destinations in the Caribbean and Central America, it’s difficult to find an airline that consistently offers better value than Frontier Airlines. This discount carrier promises “Low Fares Done Right,” and it even has a special membership program — Discount Den — for additional savings and perks.

Like other carriers with low-priced flights, Frontier doesn’t include a lot of extras in its basic fare. You may have to pay more for things like carry-ons, checked baggage and seat selections. But Frontier can still help you save hundreds of dollars compared to other airline fares, so it’s worth checking out even if you have to pay for some items separately when you fly. This is especially true if you’re a frequent flyer who’s looking to save money with cheap fares and earn airline miles throughout the year.

In this guide, we’ll cover all you need to know about Frontier’s frequent flyer program, including how to earn and redeem miles, qualify for elite status and more.

Frontier Miles basics

Frontier Miles is the frequent flyer program of Frontier Airlines, and it works similarly to other airline loyalty programs . Signing up for Frontier Miles is free, and it offers elite status tiers just like other programs. To join the program , you’ll need to create an account and enter basic contact information like your name, address, email and phone number.

Additionally, Frontier Miles is one of the few loyalty programs that lets you earn miles and pool them with family members without minimum or maximum miles requirements, fine print or hidden fees. Your family pool can be composed of up to eight people, and it can include anyone you want — actual family members, friends or acquaintances. One person will be the designated leader of the family pool and they will be in charge of holding and redeeming miles. To qualify for family pooling, the leader of your pool needs to have elite status with Frontier Airlines or carry the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard®*.

Who is Frontier Miles best for?

The Frontier Miles program is best for people who fly with Frontier often or are looking for cheap, no-frills flights to select destinations in the U.S., Central America and the Caribbean. It’s also easy to earn miles for free flights, and it’s a great program for large groups who want to pool miles together.

How to earn Frontier Miles

You can earn Frontier Airlines miles through a few different methods, and you can use multiple strategies to earn more miles for free flights. Here are the main ways to earn miles in this program:

Flying with Frontier

Many airlines have confusing rules that dictate how you accumulate miles. Frontier Airlines keeps it simple: You can earn 1X mile for each mile you fly, regardless of the ticket price (though you may also be able to earn a mileage multiplier once you’ve achieved elite status with the program). This practice ensures you won’t earn fewer miles just because you purchased your flight on sale.

Shopping with Frontier partners

You can earn Frontier Miles when you log in to your account and make purchases with select partners, although the number of bonus miles you can earn will vary. Here are some of the partners that let you earn Frontier Miles .

  • Alamo: Earn up to 500 miles per rental
  • Avis: Save on base rates and earn up to 50 miles per day on qualifying 1-4 day rentals and 500 miles per rental on rentals of 5+ days
  • Budget: Save on base rates and earn up to 50 miles per day on qualifying 1-4 day rentals and 500 miles per rental on rentals of 5+ days
  • Dollar Car Rental: Earn 100 miles per day on qualifying 1-4 day rentals and 1,000 miles per rental on rentals of 5+ days
  • Thrifty: Earn 100 miles per day on qualifying 1-4 day rentals and 1,000 miles per rental on rentals of 5+ days
  • Hertz: Earn up to 500 miles and save on base rates of qualifying rentals
  • National Car Rental: Earn up to 20 percent off every rental, 50 miles per day and 500 miles on rentals of 5+ days
  • Marriott Bonvoy: Earn 1X to 2X miles per dollar on qualifying hotel stays
  • Wyndham Rewards: Earn 1X to 2X miles per dollar on qualifying hotel stays
  • Frontier Cruises: Earn 1,500 to 10,000 miles for qualifying sailings
  • Teleflora: Earn 10X miles for every dollar spent
  • Vinesse Wines: Earn up to 4X miles for every dollar spent, plus 5,000 miles

Using the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard

Another way to earn miles is by using the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard® *. This credit card, which is issued by Barclays, is the only credit card that Frontier Airlines offers. It comes with an annual fee of $89 and a welcome bonus of 50,000 miles plus a $100 flight voucher after you spend $500 on purchases and pay the annual fee in full within 90 days of account opening. You’ll also earn 5X miles on eligible purchases at FlyFrontier.com, 3X miles on restaurant purchases and 1X miles on all other purchases. And if you’re interested in pursuing elite status with Frontier Airlines, this card provides 1X Qualifying Mile toward elite status for every dollar spent on purchases or by flying Frontier.

Other benefits include no blackout dates on award travel, a $100 Frontier Airlines flight voucher every account anniversary after you spend $2,500 or more on purchases within your card membership year, complimentary FICO credit score access, an award redemption fee waiver (when you book an award ticket and use your card to pay related taxes and fees), Zone 2 priority boarding and no foreign transaction fees. The card also unlocks “Family Pooling” and it comes with an introductory 0% APR on balance transfers for 15 months on balances transferred within 45 days of account opening (21.24%, 25.24% or 29.99% APR after, based on your creditworthiness).

How to redeem Frontier Miles

The Frontier Miles program doesn’t have many redemption options. However, most people who earn miles in this program do so to score free flights within the U.S. or to select international destinations, so this may not be a deal-breaker for you.

The best (and primary) way to redeem Frontier Miles is for flights, which you can do by logging in to your Frontier account and booking a flight with miles. To get an idea of the minimum number of miles you’ll need for each type of flight, it’s helpful to reference the Frontier Miles award chart , which includes minimum redemption requirements for each award level and associated taxes and fees.

For example, Value awards within the U.S. start at 10,000 miles one way, a Standard award starts at 20,000 miles and a Last Seat award starts at 22,500 miles. Flights to Frontier’s international destinations require slightly more miles per trip and can vary depending on where you’re traveling to or from. For example, Value awards to and from Mexico start at 15,000 miles one way, Standard awards start at 25,000 miles and Last Seat awards start at 27,500 miles. For all round-trip flights, mile requirements are doubled.

You can also redeem miles for magazine subscriptions through MagsforMiles (mileage redemption starts at 600 miles). If possible, aim to avoid this redemption method since you’ll get more value out of your Frontier Miles when you redeem them for flights.

Be aware that you’ll have to pay a fee to redeem your miles unless you book your flight more than 180 days before departure, carry the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard, have elite status or are a travel companion of a Frontier cardmember or elite status member.

Fees to redeem Frontier Miles are charged as follows:

  • 180+ days before travel: Free
  • 21 to 179 days before travel: $15
  • 7 to 20 days before travel: $50
  • Less than 6 days before travel: $75

How much are Frontier Miles worth?

According to Bankrate’s recent points and miles valuations , Frontier Miles are worth about 1.3 cents each. This is slightly higher than valuations for other airline currencies like American AAdvantage miles but less than the points value of Southwest Rapid Rewards.

Here’s how the value of Frontier Miles compares to other airline loyalty programs:

Frontier Miles elite status and memberships

Frontier elite status.

Frontier Airlines offers a few levels of elite status — Elite 20k, Elite 50k and Elite 100k — although the perks you’ll get aren’t as luxurious as you would expect from a traditional airline.

Here’s how to reach each level of Frontier status:

  • Elite 20k. Earn 20,000 Qualifying Miles or 25 flight segments annually
  • Elite 50k. Earn 50,000 Qualifying Miles or 50 flight segments annually
  • Elite 100k. Earn 100,000 Qualifying Miles or 100 flight segments annually

However, you can reach any Frontier status tier through airline credit card spending alone, which is a unique benefit among frequent flyer programs. For example, the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard provides 1X Qualifying Mile for all spending outside of the 5X and 3X categories.

As for the benefits you’ll enjoy for each status level, they are as follows:

If you are hoping for upgrades to business or first class just by earning elite status, the Frontier Miles program is probably not what you’re looking for. This is a discount airline, and Frontier planes don’t even have premium cabins like traditional carriers. The best you’ll get is a benefit called Stretch Seating, which gives you access to seats with extra legroom.

Still, earning elite status with Frontier Miles is considerably easier than with other airlines that normally have a spending requirement and a segments- or miles-flown requirement. Frontier Miles lets you earn up to its highest level of elite status with credit card spending alone, which is unheard of among other frequent flyer programs.

Frontier Discount Den membership

In addition to elite status, Frontier also offers Discount Den , an annual membership program that provides exclusive access to the lowest Frontier fares available. You’ll also get access to exclusive promotions and offers, free fares for kids under 15 on select flights and dates, and discounted fares for up to nine people on the same reservation. The annual membership fee is $59.99, plus a one-time $40 enrollment fee for new members or former members who want to rejoin the program.

Frontier Miles transfer partners

As mentioned, you can earn Frontier Miles with select Frontier car, hotel, cruise and retail partners. But it’s important to note that Frontier Miles members cannot transfer their miles to other credit card or airline rewards programs. Currently, you can only redeem Frontier Miles for flights with Frontier Airlines or select magazine subscriptions.

However, if you would like to transfer your rewards from other rewards programs to Frontier Miles, you currently have one option:

Marriott Bonvoy

If you’re a member of Marriott Bonvoy’s rewards program, you can transfer Marriott Bonvoy points to Frontier Miles at a rate of 3:1. So, 10,000 Marriott Bonvoy points would be about 3,333 Frontier Miles.

Frontier Miles FAQs

Frontier Miles will expire after 12 months of inactivity. To keep your miles from expiring, make at least one Frontier purchase or make a purchase on the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard every 12 months.

Yes, you can share Frontier Miles with up to eight friends and family members through Frontier’s family pooling feature.

Yes, you can buy or gift Frontier Miles . You can buy miles at a rate of 2.5 cents per mile and you can purchase a minimum of 1,000 miles and a maximum of 25,000 miles.

The bottom line

Joining the Frontier Miles program is free, and doing so makes sense if you are hoping to earn miles and score some cheap — and free — flights. Although the elite status benefits aren’t that impressive, this program does make it easy to climb the elite status ladder through flying or credit card spending.

The Best Time to Book a Flight for Domestic, International, and Summer Travel

Here are our best tips for booking travel in 2024.

find my trip frontier

When to Book Flights for Domestic Travel

When to book flights for international travel, when to book flights for summer 2024 travel, when to book flights for holiday 2024 travel.

Buying plane tickets is something of an art form. Ideally, you want to secure your spot months in advance to avoid the inevitable price spike as your travel dates get closer. But sometimes the best time to book a flight also depends on the destination and whether it's domestic or abroad. The trends are always changing, but experts say the sweet spot for booking domestic flights is 28 days, or 60 days for international flights.

Flights generally open for booking about a year ahead of time, and the airfare will change often between then and takeoff. Although you can book just a couple of weeks before the departure date in some cases, prices are likely to be astronomical. In other cases, when you want to go somewhere popular or during a big travel weekend, flights could fill up faster than normal. Our advice: Track flight prices on Google Flights or Hopper as early as possible so you can keep an eye on cost fluctuations. Read on for more advice about when to book flights from the pros.

According to Expedia's 2024 Air Travel Hacks report , you should aim to book 28 days before your domestic flight. "Doing so can save travelers up to 24 percent compared to those who wait until the last minute, from zero to six days out," Expedia travel expert Christie Hudson tells Travel + Leisure.

For domestic trips, pricing is elevated when tickets are first released, about a year before the flight. Those prices will slowly creep downward, all the way to their lowest point in the prime booking window, after which you'll likely see a huge increase in cost for last-minute travel.

Meet the Expert

Christie Hudson is a travel expert at top booking site Expedia.

You're better off booking earlier rather than later for international travel, but the Expedia report says ideally no more than four months before your desired departure date. The sweet spot is around 60 days. "This is a big change from 2022 data, which showed the cheapest fares were secured when travelers booked four to six months out." Hudson says. "2023 data revealed that people who booked that far in advance actually paid more on average." The report says the least expensive day of the week to book is Sunday and the most expensive is Friday, for both domestic and international travel.

But there is some regional variance. Going , a platform that tracks flight prices and notifies members of good deals, has found the best months to book flights to Africa, Asia, Oceania, Europe, and Latin America, for travel about 60 days out. Here's what it says.

Africa: Book in May.

Asia: Book in August or October, followed by April or September.

Oceania: Book in November, January, or July.

Europe: Book in August, October, or November.

Latin America: Book in October.

The real trick to finding good deals on international airfare is to avoid booking your travel for peak times, which include summer and major holidays (don't forget — that includes holidays in your destination, too).

Summer is traditionally one of the most popular times of the year to travel, which means it can be tough to find a good deal on airfare. Ideally, you should book flights for summer travel as soon as possible, preferably at least six months in advance.

"The best time to book for peak season is … the opposite season," says Katy Nastro, travel expert at Going. "While most of us are scrambling to focus on our winter holiday plans, we should also keep our eyes open for some great summer fares."

She notes that the booking window for peak season ranges between three and seven months for domestic flights and four to 10 months for international trips. "And if you do book something, keep that flight alert on," says Nastro. "If it drops again, depending on your ticket type, you can call to rebook and get a refund or travel credit back with the difference."

Katy Nastro is a travel expert at Going, a website that finds flight deals to more than 900 destinations around the world.

Around the winter holidays is the priciest time to travel, Nastro says. "Your best bet is to remember the Goldilocks zones: look to book between three to seven months ahead for domestic travel and four to 10 months ahead for international travel."

Hudson advises that at the very latest, your holiday travel should be booked by mid-October. "But the biggest holiday travel savings actually come from choosing the right dates," she says. "Avoiding the busiest days like the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Friday and Saturday before Christmas will yield major savings."

Track flights and book your holiday tickets as soon as you find a decent deal, but make sure to book a fare that will give you a credit if you cancel (generally speaking, that means don't book basic economy). That way, if prices drop between the time of booking and your travel dates, you can cancel your original ticket and use the credit to book the cheaper fare. The only downside is you'll still have some remaining credit, but you can then use it to treat yourself to a future flight. Just don't let that credit expire.
