New walking tour to highlight Henley’s brewing heritage
A new walking tour of Henley launches later this month, highlighting the town’s rich brewing heritage. The 75-minute tour, led by a Blue Badge guide, takes walkers to key brewing sites and iconic pubs and is supported by local brewer and pub operator Brakspear.
The Henley Brewing Heritage Tour will run on the last Sunday of every month, starting on 27 th January at 11.00 am. It begins at the Hotel du Vin, site of the Brakspear brewery for nearly two centuries until it closed in 2002.
The tour takes in several sites with significance to Henley’s brewing history, including the Town Hall, the Three Tuns in Market Square and the Bull on Bell Street – now home to Brakspear’s Bell Street microbrewery – before finishing at the Angel on the Bridge. A complimentary pint of Bell Street-brewed ale is being offered to walkers for a limited time, served in the Bull or the Angel on the Bridge.
Brakspear chief executive Tom Davies said, “Brewing has been part of the fabric of Henley for more than three centuries; a brewery opened in 1711 on Bell Street – just yards from our current microbrewery, which opened in 2013 – and became the foundation of Brakspear’s brewing and pub operation in the town.
“We’re proud to be supporting this new themed tour which we’re confident will appeal to local residents as well as visitors from the UK and abroad.”
Blue Badge Guide Bobbie Latter, who will be leading the tours, said, “Interest in visiting breweries has grown over recent years, in tandem with the growing enthusiasm for locally-brewed beers.
“The fascinating history of brewing in Henley has perhaps not been publicised as much as it deserves, so it’s great that we can now inform and entertain our tour guests on the key sites, dates and characters behind this aspect of the town’s heritage.”
The tour costs £10 per person, including a pint of Brakspear ale for a limited time. Places must be booked in advance by calling 07770 933117.

Did you know Henley-on-Thames has a long brewing pedigree that dates back to the 18th Century?
Beer lovers can discover more about the town's close ties with brewing and enjoy a pint along the way in a new walking tour.
The Henley Brewing Heritage Tour will highlight the key locations around the town, taking in everything from the former Brakspear brewery that closed in 2002 to a microbrewery that's hoping to recapture the town's beer loving spirit.
The tour will run on the last Sunday of every month, starting on January 27.
It begins at the Hotel du Vin in New Street, which was the site of the Brakspear brewery for nearly two centuries until it closed in 2002.
Those joining the tour will then be taken to other significant locations in Henley's brewing history, such as the Town Hall, the Three Tuns in Market Square and the Bull in Bell Street - now home to Brakspear's Bell Street microbrewery - before finishing at The Angel on the Bridge pub.
A complimentary pint of Bell Street-brewed ale is being offered to those taking part in the tour for a limited time, served in The Bull or The Angel on the Bridge.
Blue Badge Guide Bobbie Latter, who will be leading the tours, said: "Interest in visiting breweries has grown over recent years, in tandem with the growing enthusiasm for locally-brewed beers.
"The fascinating history of brewing in Henley has perhaps not been publicised as much as it deserves, so it's great that we can now inform and entertain our tour guests on the key sites, dates and characters behind this aspect of the town's heritage."
The tour is managed by Brakspear.
Now, the brewery owns more than 130 pubs, including the Prince of Wales in the Caversham area of Reading, Berkshire.
Brakspear chief executive Tom Davies said, "Brewing has been part of the fabric of Henley for more than three centuries; a brewery opened in 1711 on Bell Street - just yards from our current microbrewery, which opened in 2013 - and became the foundation of Brakspear's brewing and pub operation in the town.
"We're proud to be supporting this new themed tour which we're confident will appeal to local residents as well as visitors from the UK and abroad."
The tour costs £10 per person, including a pint of Brakspear ale for a limited time.
Places must be booked in advance by calling 07770 933117.

CREATORS OF HAND CRAFTED ARTISAN SPIRITS
Voted new distillery of the year at the gin guide awards 2022, charity partnership announcement.
Our Founder & Master Distiller Jacob lived with M.E from the age of 14 where he went from rowing every day to bed bound for almost 2 years. The road to recovery was long but he feels immensely fortunate that he is able to consider himself free of symptoms as he is very aware that this is not the outcome for so many people.
We at the Distillery will be working hard this year to raise not only money but also awareness of M.E to try and make an impact to the many people currently living with the condition.
Not your average pink gin
We often describe our Henley Gin Rhubarb & Orange as “a pink gin for people who don’t like pink gin”. It is a dry gin, distilled with fresh orange peel with a subtle hint of rhubarb on the finish. Nothing saccharin sweet, nothing artificial but maybe just perfect for you…
We are so proud to share that we have teamed up with Gorvett & Stone for their 20th anniversary year. Henley Gin & Temple Island Rum truffles are now available to purchase in their store. The tasting sessions have been tough – but we’ve managed!
It’s an absolutely incredible set up and Jacob deserves much success. Such a talent, and his passion is going to be what have people flocking through the doors.
The day we met him and tasted his gin, we knew it would stand head and shoulders above the competition. Jacob is a true artisan at the top of his craft.
Huge thanks to Jacob and the team at The Henley Distillery for working with us to create a surprising, interesting, delicious and eminently drinkable artisanal London Dry.
Henley Classic Dry Gin is beautifully constructed, with complexity, cohesion, transitions of flavour, and a hearty traditional core. With Tonic Water, the juniper is prominent, spices give body, the citrus is vibrant, and notes of lemongrass and kaffir lime are lifted too, delivering a G&T that is hard to fault.
It’s easy to see why their gins taste so great – they put so much heart and soul into their craft.
The Heart and Soul of The Henley Distillery
There are no industrial rectifying columns here and nothing is chill-filtered meaning all the flavour from the botanical extracts and essential oils meticulously selected by Jacob remain pure, creating premium-quality, artisan spirits.
Jacob is the heart and soul of The Henley Distillery and with a small, passionate team around him, he has created the first three editions of the now award-winning Henley Gin and on the 12th May, launched Temple Island Rum .
Voted "New Distillery of the Year" at The Gin Guide Awards 2022, we are energised and driven to create award-winning spirits for our own brand as well as for others as part of our contract distilling venture.
