We were picked up from Auckland at our AirBnb, driven to the caves, was able to see the difference in the 2 caves and back. The 1st cave was a little shorter tour but the 2nd cave as a long tour. It was described in Viator as we expected with bio breaks, lunch and snacks provided which was really nice! In 8 hours, we were able to visit multiple scenic vistas, had two different wine tastings, enjoyed a fabulous lunch, and walked on a blacl sand beach, all while seeing the full breadth of Auckland. Travel south through lush green farmlands and plains to Matamata, the home of the Hobbits! Then on to the Shires Rest! Here your journey begins to the original Hobbiton Village, from the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. Drive through a picturesque 1250 acre working farm with 12,000 sheep and 200 beef cattle on site! Enjoy the spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges.

Your enthusiastic local tour guide will escort you through the set recounting fascinating details on how the Hobbiton set was created, stories during the filming, and recall different parts of the movies.

Hamilton Gardens covers an area of 58 hectares. The unique theme of Hamilton Gardens is “the story of gardens” which is made up of many different very beautiful, international gardens.

Experience the real Middle-earth with a visit to the Hobbiton Movie Set, the setting for The Shire that featured in the Peter Jackson directed films, “The Lord of The Rings”. Your tour starts with a drive through the picturesque 1,250-acre sheep farm with spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges. Your guide will escort you through the ten-acre site recounting fascinating details of how the Hobbiton set was created. The Hobbit holes, Green Dragon Inn, Mill and other structures created for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films, these can be viewed and you will see how this beautiful piece of Waikato farmland was transformed into “The Shire from Middle-earth”. At the end of the tour, you have time for pictures and dress up in clothes from Middle-earth, along with a taste of home-brewed ginger beer (non-alcohol) at the Green Dragon.

After a great day, we return home at 6 pm.*

Hello! I booked this tour with my friend on 8/4 sat. I cannot be more satisfied with this trip. Tour guide George was kind, witty and gentle-it was very kind of him to pick us up at Papakura, and drop us off at Manukau. Hamilton garden was lovely, not to mention Hobbiton. My friend-a big fan of Lord of the Rings-was really happy about the trip, and so was I. I cannot believe that I could have such a beautiful day trip for only $150! Two thumbs up for Kiwiana, and I will definitely book a kiwiana tour when I visit NZ again.

Broadway hit Hamilton made its debut in Singapore on April 19 as part of the production’s inaugural international tour.

Sure, it’s a different cast from the one that most people have already watched on Disney+ – sorry, Lin-Mannuel Miranda fans – but that doesn’t make it a lesser experience by any means.

In fact, the international production’s cast’s fresh take on their characters offers a unique and compelling experience for long-time Hamilton fans and first-time viewers alike.

With a musical score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, Hamilton tells the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton, from his arrival to the American colonies to his pivotal role in shaping the nation, culminating in his unfortunate demise at the hands of a bitter rival.

TNP attended the gala night on April 24 at the Sands Theatre where local celebrities were present alongside die-hard fans of the play, some even dressed in colonial era attire.

The cast delivered stellar performances across the board. Rachelle Ann Go’s portrayal as Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton was particularly captivating. You could feel her falling helplessly in love with Alexander Hamilton at first sight.

Later on in the story, her heart-wrenching performance during the back-to-back tragedies that befall the Hamilton family left audiences gut-punched.

DeAundre’ Woods also does an impressive job playing Aaron Burr, the de facto antagonist of the story. His performance elicits empathy from the audience during the moments that his character makes difficult decisions as he attempts to establish a name for himself without running afoul of the powers that be or finding himself on the wrong side of public opinion.

While a couple of jokes failed to land with the audience – notably the quip about former First Lady Martha Washington naming her feral tomcat after Hamilton because he was a notorious flirt – other humorous moments left audiences roaring with laughter.

Viewers were in stitches every time Brent Hill’s King George took the stage, with his hilarious portrayal of a pompous monarch who’s downright furious at the prospect of setting one of his colonies free.

It was a little difficult to understand what David Park was saying/rapping as Marquis de Lafayette with his thick french accent, but he became an instant crowd favourite when he returned to the stage as the flamboyant and rambunctious Thomas Jefferson.

Overall, Hamilton was an incredibly enjoyable experience, which earned the production a standing ovation at curtain call, with audience members still buzzing with excitement long after leaving the theatre.

Hamilton premiered on Broadway in August 2015. When the show was released on Disney+ in 2020, it became the most-watched straight-to-streaming title of the year.

At the pre-show red carpet event, TNP quizzed some of the celebrities in attendance about the eponymous founding father to find out how much people really know about Alexander Hamilton.

Singapore is the third city on Hamilton’s first ever international tour, where the strictly limited season will run until June 9, 2024.

Ukraine uses long-range ATACMS against Russia for the first time

The U.S. provided Ukraine with powerful long-range ballistic missiles for the first time earlier this month, and its military has already used them twice in the last week against Russian forces, according to three U.S. officials. 

The first strike was about 100 miles inside Crimea’s border on the morning of April 17, targeting a Russian military airfield, according to the officials. The Ukrainian military used the U.S.-provided Army Tactical Missile System, known as ATACMS, for the second time Tuesday night, targeting Russian forces east of the southeastern Ukrainian town of Berdyansk in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, officials said.

The Biden administration has not previously acknowledged sending ATACMS to Ukraine, but a National Security Council spokesperson confirmed that the U.S. has provided them. They were part of the $300 million military aid package unveiled March 12.

The NSC spokesperson said the administration did not reveal at the time that it was sending Ukraine the long-range missiles for operational security reasons. President Joe Biden directed his national security team to send the ATACMS to Ukraine secretly, the spokesperson said. 

The powerful missiles have a range up to 300 kilometers (about 187 miles) and allow Ukraine to strike the Russian military throughout Crimea and in occupied parts of eastern Ukraine that had been difficult to reach. The U.S.-provided ATACMS included both warheads with cluster munitions and with unitary blast fragmentation. 

The revelation that Ukraine has used the long-range ATACMS came as Biden signed into law a foreign aid package providing billions of dollars in weapons and support to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. The measure, which will provide about $61 billion for Ukraine, was hung up for months due to opposition in the Republican-led House.

The Biden administration was already preparing a military aid package for Ukraine worth more than $1 billion, according to two U.S. officials familiar with the planning. It will include a range of equipment that the U.S. has already provided Ukraine, including ammunition, stinger missiles, artillery rounds, infantry fighting vehicles and other military equipment, the officials said.

NBC News was first to report in February that the Biden administration was planning to provide ATACMS to Ukraine. 

Late last year, the U.S. began to supply Ukraine with the missiles, but until now they had limited the shipments to older medium-range models amid concerns that taking the longer-range ones from U.S. stockpiles could endanger military readiness. In early February, the U.S. Army presented a plan to buy new ATACMS directly from industry and send ones in storage to Ukraine, and the Biden administration approved. 

The White House also concealed the decision to send the medium-range ATACMS in 2023, acknowledging it only after Ukraine used them in combat. Administration officials also cited operational security as the reason for its secrecy.

The Biden administration had resisted sending the long-range missiles over the past two years because officials worried Ukraine would use them to strike inside Crimea or Russia and prompt Russian President Vladimir Putin to escalate the conflict. White House and Pentagon officials have expressed similar concerns about other sophisticated weapons systems but have repeatedly decided to provide them to Ukraine.

But after multiple warnings to Russia not to use long-range weapons inside Ukraine and to stop attacking Ukrainian energy grids went unheeded, the White House decided to give Ukraine the same capabilities.

An NSC spokesperson said Biden directed his team to send the ATACMS after North Korea provided Russia with ballistic missiles that have now been used in Ukraine and after Russia has repeatedly attacked civilian infrastructure inside Ukraine.

The U.S. imposed limitations on the use of the long-range systems, including that they cannot be used to strike inside Russia and must be used within sovereign Ukrainian territory, which, according to the U.S. government, includes Crimea. 

Testifying before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense last week, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned that without funding for more weapons to Ukraine, Russia is gaining the upper hand. 

"We’re seeing the Ukrainians be challenged in terms of holding the line — they’re doing a very good job, a credible job — but in order to continue to do that, they’re going to need the right materials, the right munitions, the weapons to be able to do that," Austin said.

An NSC spokesperson said more military aid will provide a boost to Ukraine on the battlefield, but it cannot turn the tide of the war alone. Ukraine is running low on munitions and equipment, while Russia continues to launch waves of drones and missiles, the spokesperson said.

Speaking on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” on Sunday , Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the new aid will give the country a chance at “victory” as it  defends itself  from Russia.

“I think this support will really strengthen the armed forces, I pray, and we will have a chance at victory if Ukraine really gets the weapons system, which we need so much, which thousands of soldiers need so much,” he said.
