India vs England, 3rd ODI 2022 Highlights:  India defeated England by five wickets in the final ODI to clinch the three-match series 2-1 here on Sunday. Sent into bat, skipper Jos Buttler top-scored with 60 while opener Jason Roy made 41, as England were bowled out for 259. For India, Hardik Pandya was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/24, while Yuzvendra Chahal took three wickets for 60. Chasing 260, Rishabh Pant struck an unbeaten 125 while Pandya made 71, as India overhauled the target in 42.1 overs. Reece Topley again shone bright with the ball, returning with impressive figures of 3/35. Follow highlights from IND vs ENG below.

White ball is something close to me. We all know such a good team England is. For us as a team it was important for us to come here, set out the plans what we'll bowl. Important for me to stop the runs, bowl as many dot balls. They were cruising at one point. I love short balls. Don't fancy people taking me on. Gets me into the game. Don't mind getting hit for six sixes also if I can get a wicket. That's his game as well, he takes his chances. I always feel I'm shameless as a bowler. Don't care how far I get hit. We all know what talent he has. Finally today he was playing the situation. The partnership changed the game for us. The way he finished the game was also special.

Hopefully I remember (this knock) for the rest of my life. I was focusing on one ball at a time when I was batting. When your team is under pressure and you bat like that .. something I aspire to do. I always enjoy playing in England, at the same time enjoy the atmosphere and the situation. The more you play the more experience you gain. Nothing to take away from the bowlers, it was a good wicket to bat on and the bowlers did a commendable job to restrict them, they were brilliant not only today but for the entire series.

Willey in to bowl the 42nd over and Pant hits back to back fours!! India are very close. Make that 3!!! Just 12 more left as Pant has really come into his own. 4 more to follow. Oh my word. That's century for Rishabh Pant as he ends his 27-game wait for an ODI 100. And what a game to get it in. The decider. IND 236/5 after 41 overs.

Willey in to bowl the 40th. Starts pretty well with 3 runs from the first 4 balls unitil THAT!!! Pant takes the charge and hits a 6!!! IND 231/5 after 40 overs

Less than 50 runs needed now as Moeen Ali is brought back into the attack. Pant rotates strike with a single. The next 2 balls also yields two singles. This is what they need to do. Singles are enough at this stage. A four to end the over. IND 221/5 after 39 overs. Need 39 runs more to win

Brydon Carse in to bowl the 36th over and is pulled for a four first ball by Hardik Pandya. The next ball, he finds the gap again for 4 more. And that's a magnificent catch by Stokes to dismiss Pandya. IND 205/5 after 35.3 overs. Need 55 runs more

Craig Overton in to bowl the 35th and is punished with a four, followed by a mighty six by Rishabh Pant. They are now running away with the match. IND 197/4 after 35 overs

That's two back to back fours by Pant to Overton as the pull shot comes into play. That's 100 partnership up for Pandya and Pant. England need to break this partnership to have any chance in this match. IND 179/4 after 33 overs.

That's 50 for Rishabh Pant as well as he hits a four to bring up the milestone. Was a slower delivery that Pant latches onto and punches it downtown. One bounce and over the ropes. IND 159/4 after 31 overs

Hardik is batting at 48 runs. Can he get his 50 in this over? Livingstone in to bowl. Gets one as the strike goes back to Pant. And that's his 50. Great innings under the circumstances. IND 152/4 after 30 overs. Need 108 more to win

Topley in to bowl the 27th and his second ball is punished by Pandya for a four!! Follows that up with another four. Straight down the ground and holds the pose. As straight as it gets. Pandya is purring now. IND 137/4 after 27 overs. Need 123 more to win.

Moeen Ali has been introduced in the attack now to break this partnership which looks formidable with a 50-run stand. Good over. Just 1 run from it. IND 126/4 after 26 overs. Need 134 runs to win.

Glorious shot by Pandya to start over 22. That's played with a straight bat and reaches the boundary in a flash. A single to finish the over. India 108/4 after 22 overs. Need 152 runs to win.

Over number 21 starts with a four by Pant to Overton. The fifth ball yields a single after 3 dot balls in the middle which brings up India's 100. IND 100/4 after 21 overs.

Craig Overton gets the wicket of Suryakumar Yadav and Buttler as usual grabs an easy catch. That extra bounce does the trick for Overton this time. Pant gets a boundary here. IND 79/4 after 17 overs.

Topley is on fire as he takes the wicket of Kohli and an easy catch by Buttler does the rest. England are in a commanding position now. SKY comes in and gets a boundary.  IND 42/3 after 9 overs.

Topley strikes again as he picks the wicket of Rohit and Root grabs an easy catch in the end. That's huge wicket for England. India are in trouble now.   IND 21/2 after 5 overs.

Topley takes the wicket of Dhawan and Roy takes an easy catch at the point. That's clever bowling. Kohli comes in the middle and it will be interesting to see how he plays here. IND 13/1 after 3 overs.

Rohit and Dhawan are in the middle to start the proceedings for India. Topley will bowl the first over for England. Rohit ends the over with a boundary.  IND 4/0 after 1 over.

Chahal takes the wicket of Craig Overton and an easy catch by Kohli does the rest. He strikes again and England are all out now.    ENG 259/10 after 45.5 overs.

The frustration is etched on the face of Rohit Sharma as the bowlers fail to clean up the lower order. Can Chahal, in to bowl the 44th over, do some damage? 3 runs from the first 3 balls. And the 4th ball yields a wicket. Exactly what India needed. Suryakumar Yadav takes the catch. Willey walks back. ENG 247/8 after 43.4 overs.

Just 9 overs left after this over as India will hope to wipe out the England tailenders. The extra runs might prove costly in the second innings. Overton hits a pull and that made a nice sound. And it's a no ball by Prasidh to boot. And Wiley latches on the fourth ball and hits it out of the ground for a six!!! ENG 226/7 after 41 overs.

After getting a six against Hardik Pandya, Livingstone walks off to the pavilion and Jadeja takes a great catch at the fence. Again the short ball has done the trick for Pandya. India are in a commanding position now. Buttler also goes back to the change room, short balls are doing wonders for Pandya. England 199/7 after 37 overs.

Livingstone pulls it this time for a huge six. He hits Hardik Pandya over the backward square leg and gets the result. That's great batting!! England 190/5 after 35 overs.

Buttler gets a boundary against Jadeja. He hits it over the extra cover and gets to his fifty. What a knock!! Great batting by Buttler. England 170/5 after 32 overs.

Jadeja cleans up Moeen Ali and Pant takes an easy catch behind the stumps. Ali looks dangerous but he departs. India are in a very good position now. Livingstone gets a boundary here. England 156/5 after 28 overs.

Buttler steps out and deposits the ball in the stands. He does it against Chahal. Great shot over the long-on by Buttler. Ali also goes big this time and hits a six. Chahal seems to be under pressure now.   England 147/4 after 26 overs.

Moeen Ali hits two boundaries and a huge six against Siraj. Both the batters are now looking to build the innings from here on. That's great batting! England 125/4 after 23 overs.

A notable matchup in favour of India. Might be the change India want to make soon with runs coming in hard for England. 

India have done a good job keeping both Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali in control as opposed to their chaotic self. That may change now with spin coming into play. Yuzvendra Chahal is known to offer width that may bring wickets but give away big runs as well. No boundary or wicket in his first over though. England 84/4 after 18 overs.

England had done well to recover from early blows in the second over when Mohammed Siraj had bowled a maiden and dismissed Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root for a duck. Jason Roy and Ben Stokes kept the run rate in check and looked good until Hardik Pandya broke the stand in his first over. England's white ball and red ball captains in the middle now with 66 runs on the board after the first 10 overs at the loss of three wickets.

Hardik Pandya the all-rounder comes in with his cheat code. Given the ball in the final over of the powerplay, Pandya tied down Roy by not giving him room to operate and keeping the right handed opener close to off-stump. Tries to pull but skies it and Pant completes an easy catch. England 66/3 after 9.5 overs. 

Roy and Stokes have raced away to a 50 -run stand in quick time. Runs are coming in thick and fast and quite a few in boundaries. Prasidh Krishna comes into the attack, replaces Shami, who conceded 33 off his first four overs at 8.25 per overs. Score after 8 overs, ENG: 59/2

Jason Roy (24*) and Ben Stokes (13*) are rebuilding after the two early wickets. Score after 6 overs, ENG: 38/2 | Meanwhile on the stoppages in play, Harry on social media writes- "am a bit surprised to see spectators seating arrangement between the batsman & sightscreen at Old Trafford... Must be really annoying to the batsmen & bowler having to pull out once or twice every over..."

Stokes is taking on Siraj and hits him for two boundaries in an over. Exciting cricket in the first 4 overs with 28 runs and 2 wickets! Superb counter-attack from England. Score after 4 overs, ENG: 24/2

Ben Stokes goes for a run, confident that the fielder- Prasidh Krishna would not get to the ball but he does and misses the stumps. But it was a risky single. Score after 3 overs, ENG: 14/2

Siraj gets the first breakthrough for Team India, Jonny Bairstow gone for a duck. He then removes Root with a beautiful outswinger. Score after 2 overs, ENG: 12/2

Roy and Bairstow are at the crease. Roy is on strike. Shami will open the attack and its a first ball boundary. But he is not done yet ! The second ball, which swung back in, is also dispatched to the fence past square leg for another boundary. Seems like a good wicket to bat. ENG: 8/0

We would have looked to bat. It is a little muggy and there might be some swing early on, but will get good for batting as the game progresses. It is great for the series as it is 1-1 coming into this game. Lots of positives, we scrapped with the bat to get a defendable total in the last game. We are going with the same team.

It looks like a good track and won't change for the course of 100 overs. It is the series decider and we have played some good cricket on the tour, we took the learning from the last game and hopefully will rectify the mistakes. We have bowled well in the limited overs leg, the T20 series as well. Hopefully we can restrict them today to a reasonable target. Bumrah has a niggle and we don't want to risk him, so Siraj comes in.

Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of this game owing to back spasms. Arshdeep was not considered for selection as he is yet to fully recover from right abdominal strain. Siraj is in the playing XI

England to play three cricket tests in New Zealand to conclude 2024

LONDON (AP) — The England and Wales Cricket Board on Tuesday announced a three-test tour to New Zealand starting at Christchurch on Nov. 28.

After the series opener at Hagley Oval, the tour will move to the North Island for tests in Wellington from Dec. 6-10 and in Hamilton from Dec. 14-18.

The last time the test teams met in February and March of last year, they split a two-match series after England was on the verge of a 2-0 victory when skipper Ben Stokes enforced the follow-on. New Zealand won by one run — only the fourth team in history to win a test after following on — in the second test after England won the first by 267 runs.

The three matches at the end of this year form part of the World Test Championship, which New Zealand won in its inaugural edition before losing the title to Australia.

India, which has won six of nine tests in this edition, leads the WTC standings with Australia in second place and New Zealand in third. England is ninth ahead of home series against West Indies and Sri Lanka.

The top two teams will advance to a final at Lord’s in 2025.

"The difference over the past summer, and in terms of the upcoming Tests against England, is that the interest is being converted to bums on seats and is driving record viewership numbers. "We're looking forward to that continuing over the upcoming summer, and to welcoming the England team and their fans to the Tests, and of course all the Kiwi-based supporters as well." Winners of the first World Test Championship cycle in 2021, New Zealand sit in third on the 2023-2025 table, having collected 50% of possible points in their campaign thus far. The Black Caps claimed maximum points in their home series against South Africa and collected a win in their away two-match series with Bangladesh, before falling to a 2-0 series defeat to current defending World Test Champions Australia.

Both Australia and Sri Lanka women's teams, alongside Sri Lanka and Pakistan men's teams, will also be touring in the 2024/2025 summer. The remainder of New Zealand's home international schedule will be announced later.

The release of the itinerary for England's Test tour of New Zealand later this year has confirmed Ben Stokes' side will play matches in Christchurch, Wellington and Hamilton.

Hagley Oval, the Cello Basin Reserve, and Seddon Park were on Tuesday confirmed as the venues for the three-match series.

Christchurch hosts the opening match from November 28-December 2, Wellington follows from December 6-10, before the series concludes in Hamilton from December 14-18.

New Zealand Cricket chief executive Scott Weenink said there were already indications that the three matches against Brendon McCullum's team would attract the same sort of bumper attendances witnessed for the two home tests against Australia in February and March.

"In the past, there's often been a lot of talk in New Zealand about the popularity of Test cricket - without that translating into ticket sales or viewership numbers," he said.

England spinner Shoaib Bashir left out by Somerset despite Jack Leach injury

A breakout tour of India and an injury to Jack Leach was still not enough to earn young England spinner Shoaib Bashir selection for Somerset’s first game of the season at Canterbury .

After the entire opening day was washed out, Somerset opted for a five-strong seam attack – plus the part-time option of Tom Lammonby’s left-arm medium pace – for their game against Kent. That meant there was no space for Bashir, the 20-year-old off-spinner who took 17 wickets in three Tests in India.

That despite the use of the Kookaburra ball in the opening two rounds of Championship fixtures, which is a move partially designed to promote spin bowling at the expense of seam, and Leach’s injury. Somerset and England’s No 1 spinner Leach is out until May with the knee injury he picked up in the opening Test of the tour of India.

The issue of game-time for young English spinners has been a hot topic since the tour of India, with the Test team’s head coach saying the counties would be “slightly mad” not to pick Bashir and Tom Hartley, the Lancashire left-armer.

Hartley, who played all five Tests in India, made Lancashire’s XI for the first game of the season alongside the great Australian spinner Nathan Lyon after the first four sessions of their match against champions Surrey were washed out by the Manchester weather.

“I know what Baz [Brendon McCullum] has come out and said in the media, and that’s all well and good – but I’m not here to take Tom’s spot,” Lyon said this week. “I’m here to bowl in tandem with Tom. If Tom calls me every day, sits down with me for a coffee every day, to talk spin bowling, I’m more than happy to do that.”

Somerset are not the only county to go in without specialist spin in the opening round. Glamorgan left out Mason Crane, who is on loan from Hampshire, for their game at Lord’s, where captain Sam Northeast racked up a double century.

Hartley was selected at No 7 in a Lancashire side that also included the great Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon. While Lancashire batted first in another game that saw the opening day washed out, picking the two spinners appears a wise move. Surrey’s spin twins, Dan Lawrence and Cam Steel, both took career best figures in sharing nine wickets.

Lawrence arrived from Essex with just 22 first-class wickets but his stated aim is to become an all-rounder. On his Surrey debut, he bowled more overs than ever before in first-class cricket, and picked up career-best figures of four for 91 in a very encouraging display as Lancashire were bowled out or 202.
