Used car values are constantly changing. Edmunds lets you track your vehicle's value over time so you can decide when to sell or trade in.

journeys the car

 • Extra versatility provided by a standard three-row seat
 • Low price for the segment
 • Lacks many modern safety and convenience features even in top trims
 • Below-average fuel economy
 • Disappointing and outdated base engine and transmission
 • Lags competitors in handling and drivability

What's new

 • Base trim renamed to SE Value
 • GT trim and V6 engine dropped
 • Part of the first Journey generation introduced in 2009

For 2020, the Dodge Journey is sent once more unto the breach in an attempt to woo you over with its low price and ... well, not much else. This small seven-seat SUV was once available in a multitude of trim levels and offered a strong optional V6 engine and available all-wheel drive. Now Dodge has stripped the Journey down and simplified it to only two trim levels and one available engine and transmission. It also can only be had in front-wheel drive.

Cost to Drive Cost to drive estimates for the 2020 Dodge Journey SE Value 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 4A) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $3.50 per gallon for regular unleaded in North Dakota.

Briefly ahead of its time, the Journey has been largely forgotten by Dodge and left with a low-budget interior, an underpowered engine and subpar driving dynamics. Even its low starting price isn't enough to make much of a case for the Journey since most of its main competitors can be had for similar money.

In its class, the Kia Sorento leads the way with more space, an abundance of features and an excellent warranty, with the stylish Volkswagen Tiguan coming in second thanks to its safety features and user-friendly tech interface. The recently rehabilitated Mitsubishi Outlander is a more distant third but is still a considerably better option than the Journey.

Performance

Fuel economy, which journey does edmunds recommend, 2020 dodge journey models.

All Journeys are powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine (173 horsepower, 166 lb-ft) mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive has been available in the past, but all 2020 Journeys are front-wheel-drive.

Selecting the SE Value trim delivers a bare-bones experience, with manually adjustable cloth seats, 17-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, and a basic six-speaker audio system with a 4.3-inch touchscreen. Available to the SE Value trim exclusively are the Blacktop Package , which adds black exterior accents and black aluminum wheels, and the SE Value Popular Equipment Group , which includes a power driver's seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, satellite radio and three-zone climate control.

The Crossroad upgrades the seating surfaces to leather and brings a power-adjustable driver's seat. It also adds a sunroof and a larger 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system and dresses up the exterior with body-colored mirrors and 19-inch alloy wheels. The Crossroad's Popular Equipment Group includes navigation, a more powerful audio system, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.

2020 Dodge Journey Overview

Is the 2020 dodge journey a good used suv.

The 2020 Journey is not a very good used SUV. Its cabin is full of cheap plastics, the third row is incredibly cramped, and cargo space is subpar for a midsize SUV . On top of that, this Dodge lacks the tech – including Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a host of safety features – you can find in most rivals.

There are plenty of better vehicles to consider. The 2020 Kia Sorento has a nicer cabin, more tech and safety features (including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), and better fuel economy. Despite being a compact SUV , the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan has more cargo room than the Journey, and it can be had with all-wheel drive.

2019 vs. 2020 Dodge Journey: What's the Difference?

Which Used Dodge Journey Trim Is Right for Me?

Dodge made the 2020 Journey in two trim levels: SE Value and Crossroad. Both have a 172-horsepower four-cylinder engine, a four-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive.

The SE Value is sparsely equipped, so shoppers may want to skip it in favor of the Crossroad.

 • Dodge Journey SE Value: Standard features include a 4.3-inch touch screen, a USB port, a six-speaker stereo, dual-zone manual climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, keyless entry, rear parking sensors, and a rearview camera.
 • Dodge Journey Crossroad: The Crossroad gains an 8.4-inch touch screen, satellite radio, Bluetooth, tri-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver's seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, second-row in-floor storage bins, a sunroof, fog lights, and alloy wheels. Some Crossroads may come with navigation, a rear-seat entertainment system, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and/or remote start.

What Does Dodge's Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Cover?

Dodge offers a certified pre-owned program for vehicles six years old or less and with fewer than 65,000 miles. Eligibility is determined by the vehicle’s initial sale date. For its certified pre-owned vehicles, Dodge offers a five-year/100,000-mile maximum care limited warranty. Additional benefits are available, including a 90-day satellite radio trial subscription, a Carfax vehicle history report, 24-hour towing and roadside assistance and a car rental allowance. There are mileage and model restrictions too.

Dodge has one of the weaker CPO warranties among affordable carmakers, according to our analysis. Rivals such as Kia, Hyundai, Chevy, Ford and Honda are all better.

Not every used Dodge will qualify for a certified pre-owned warranty. However, there are options available if you want additional coverage after the manufacturer’s warranty has expired.

2020 Dodge Journey Versus the Competition

2020 dodge journey vs. 2020 ford explorer.

The 2020 Ford Explorer is a much better midsize SUV than the Dodge. It has stronger engines, sharper handling, better fuel economy estimates, more passenger room, a larger cargo hold, and many more standard safety features. Go with the Ford.

Compare the Journey and Explorer »

2020 Dodge Journey vs. 2020 Honda CR-V

The two-row 2020 Honda CR-V is a compact SUV , but its first two rows offer more passenger space than the Journey's front rows, and it has an additional 8.2 cubic feet of cargo space. The Honda offers more tech and safety features than the Dodge, and it provides a more stable ride. The CR-V is the better vehicle.

2020 Journey Performance

How does the 2020 dodge journey drive.

The only available engine for the Journey is an underpowered four-cylinder that struggles to bring the vehicle up to speed. Additionally, the automatic transmission hesitates to downshift.

The Journey provides a mostly gentle ride, but the SUV feels unwieldy around turns and suffers from a lot of body lean. Furthermore, the steering is imprecise and requires frequent corrections. All-wheel drive is not available.

 • Engine: 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 172 horsepower and 165 pound-feet of torque
 • Drivetrain: front-wheel drive
 • Transmission: four-speed automatic

2020 Dodge Journey Gas Mileage

This Dodge earns an EPA-estimated 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. Those are typical fuel economy estimates for the midsize SUV class , which includes V6-powered rivals. For an SUV with a four-cylinder engine, however, this vehicle disappoints.

2020 Dodge Journey Towing Capacity

The Journey can tow up to 1,000 pounds when properly equipped. That’s poor for the class. There are even some compact SUVs that can tow more than that.

2020 Journey Interior

2020 journey interior quality.

Most class rivals have nicer interiors than the Journey's. Cheap and flimsy plastics make up the bulk of this vehicle’s cabin.

How Many People Does the 2020 Journey Seat?

The 2020 Journey seats seven people in three rows. The first two rows have enough head- and legroom to accommodate most adults, but the third row is tight, even for kids. Some reviewers also find that the rearmost seats are stiff.

Standard seating features:

 • Cloth upholstery

Available seating features:

 • Leather upholstery
 • Six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat
 • Heated front seats
 • Heated steering wheel

How Many Child Car Seats Fit in the 2020 Dodge Journey?

This Dodge has two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the second-row outboard seats. The second-row middle seat has a lower anchor and a tether, plus the ability to borrow a lower anchor from the passenger-side seat. There are no tethers for the third row.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave this LATCH system the second-lowest rating of Marginal for its ease of use. The tethers are hard to find and easily confused for other hardware, the middle anchor is hard to maneuver around, and the driver-side lower anchors are set deeply in the seats.

2020 Dodge Journey Features

Like other Dodge and Jeep vehicles, the Journey comes with the Uconnect infotainment system. It’s easy to use and has a responsive touch screen along with handy physical controls. However, there are fewer features than you’ll get with rivals, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not available.

 • Standard infotainment features: a 4.3-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, and a USB port
 • Available infotainment features : an 8.4-inch touch screen, a six-speaker premium stereo, satellite radio, navigation, Bluetooth, and a rear-seat entertainment system with a 9-inch display
 • Additional standard features: dual-zone manual climate control, push-button start, and proximity keyless entry
 • Other available features: remote start, tri-zone automatic climate control, and a sunroof

The Dodge Journey Finally Ends in 2021

Goodnight, and good luck.

Dodge News photo

Beginning production in 2008, the Dodge Journey has been on sale in the United States for over a decade, and it really hasn't changed much during that time. Which means by default, it's been getting a bit worse every year. Who wants a four-speed automatic in 2020? Still, the Journey is a hardworking soul, a $23,675 answer to the question of the cheapest legal way to transport seven people. But the journey ends in 2021— Autoblog reports that Fiat-Chrysler is finally retiring the budget crossover next year.

Frankly, it's about time. Starting life as a cheap CUV for families, the Dodge Journey has gradually evolved into— at least within the car salesman community —a symbol of uninformed consumers, predatory loans, and the cynicism of today's auto industry. The world needs cheap cars, but the Journey was past its sell-by date. Let's go back to a happier era, like when it first came out in the middle of the worst global financial crisis since the Great Depression.

For the 2009 model year, the Journey was initially available with the option of either a 2.4-liter inline-four cylinder making 173 horsepower or a 3.5-liter V6 making 235 hp. Front-wheel drive was standard, with all-wheel-drive as an option. By 2011 the crossover was set for what Chrysler must've assumed to be a mid-cycle facelift, but of course, this facelift would last much longer than three years.

message-editor%2F1593734587189-dodge-journey-2009-1600-01.jpg

What was it like to drive? Completely forgettable. I would describe the Journey's driving dynamics by saying it doesn't have any. It moves around, sure. But that's its most distinctive quality. Fine, it's also pretty comfortable for a cheap machine. But acceleration, braking, mid-corner performance—it existed to meet expectations in the most anodyne way, not exceed them.

A few other minor changes happened over the last decade, such as the addition of Chrysler's 283-hp, 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, but the Journey remained mostly the same right up until this year—four-speed and all. When 2020 rolled around, Dodge decided—perhaps a little late—that the Journey's days were numbered and started cutting costs accordingly. All engines besides the base 2.4-liter inline-four were cut, and the sole transmission option became the base four-speed automatic. All-wheel-drive was dropped as well.

So, unfortunately, the Journey isn't getting a goodbye party or any special edition trims to commemorate its demise. And if you include the upcoming Ram TRX, the Journey is actually Dodge's only car besides the Grand Caravan that hasn't gotten a Hellcat Hemi. We thank that's not quite right. Come on, Dodge. At least give us one Hellcat Journey before the poor old crossover kicks the bucket.

It wouldn't be the smart thing to do, or the best thing to do. It would, however, be the right thing to do.

2017 Dodge Journey

2017 dodge journey

Select a year

 • Lows Underpowered engines, ponderous handling, lack of technology.
 • Verdict The Journey is a practical choice for families on a tight budget, but rival crossovers beat it in most key areas.

Introduced nearly a decade ago, the aging mid-size Journey has survived this long thanks to its affordability and practicality, but it’s decidedly lacking in the latest technology and safety equipment. Despite the availability of five trim packages, the choice of inline-four and V-6 engines, front- or all-wheel drive, and five- or seven-passenger seating, the Journey is just not truly competitive with the best family crossovers. It’s only worth considering if there’s a steep discount working in your favor.

What's New for 2017?

Not much. Other than a few new paint colors, the Journey’s biggest update this year was the renaming of its top trim level from R/T to GT.

Original MSRP:

 • SE: $22,290
 • SXT: $26,590
 • Crossroad: $28,090
 • Crossroad Plus: $29,835
 • GT: $33,090

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The base Journey comes with an underpowered 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and an ancient four-speed automatic transmission that’s best avoided. We can confidently say that its 173 horsepower isn't enough to adequately power this two-ton SUV. Even the 283-hp V-6 model is slower than most rivals. The bigger engine is punchy enough for everyday driving, but its six-speed automatic transmission is sometimes slow on the uptake when you request more power, hampering the Journey’s responsiveness. Front-wheel drive is standard with either engine; all-wheel drive is optional on the V-6 and not available with the inline-four. The Journey’s numb, ponderous handling leaves it wallowing in corners with lots of body roll and imprecise steering. The benefit of its soft suspension, however, is a comfortable ride on the freeway.

Fuel Economy

Interior, comfort, and cargo.

The Journey’s cabin is far from upscale, and fitting anyone in the third row—even children—requires compromises from those in the second row. Cheap-feeling bits, such as a plasticky shifter and hollow-sounding interior door-trim panels, are especially egregious in higher-trim Journeys. Several luxury features, including a power-adjustable passenger seat, cooled seats, and heated rear seats are notable in their absence from the options list. Practicality is one of the few areas where the Journey shines: its interior is easily configurable, and it has tons of cubby storage for odds and ends, even if its total cargo capacity isn’t as large as some rivals.

2017 dodge journey interior

Infotainment and Connectivity

The Journey comes with the same easy-to-use Uconnect touchscreen as many other Dodge products. However, only the optional system, with its larger screen, incorporates the latest connectivity features. The Journey’s standard infotainment setup has a small 4.3-inch touchscreen with only the basics: AM/FM radio, a USB port, and an auxiliary audio jack. We’d choose the optional 8.4-inch touchscreen, which has much larger touch zones and more available features, including optional navigation, voice command, and Bluetooth connectivity. Neither Apple CarPlay nor Android Auto is offered, and there’s only a a single USB port up front.

I had no idea a car museum could be so interesting ... My interest in cars WAS limited to 'as long as they start, get me to the destination and do not break down'. However I was very impressed with this venue. Exhibits clean, sufficient information to spike an interest and an excellent audio tour. I have seen a number if cars my father had and a few I had owned so became very relevant. A great deal of passion was put into this collection which I fully appreciate. Connected all the random bits I had accumulated about Morris, Austin, Leyland and the like into a cohesive history.

My wife and I only discovered this place after visiting the local distillery virtually next door. We decided to book to go and WOW what value for money this was. Amazing array of cars and the information available was incredible. An absolute joy to visit and we we’ll definitely be back as too much to see for one visit. Really well laid out as well. Brilliant and value for money…….

This was better than a "museum" experience as the journey walks through the last 100 years of a wide range of vehicles. So if you're 30 or 70 you will likely find your first car here and cars that you find interesting from the past. A lot better than I thought it would be

Our whole family enjoyed our visit to the Great British Car Journey, but me especially. Cars were a huge part of my childhood and growing up, and to see pretty much every one of the cars I’ve driven and owned over the years, from my Ford Escort mk1 and my Dad’s Cortina mk2 to my pride and joy MG midget, it was a great trip down memory lane 😃 - Well worth a visit!

Excellent Day Out at fab museum . A real find . Unbelievable selection of cars - best car museum ever been to . Partner took advantage of a drive in a Triumph TR7 and loved it .Friendly staff were helpful and approachable. Good value for money too Highly recommended

Stumbled across this museum on way to Bakewell and stopped as it was hubby’s birthday and what an extra special treat it was. This museum is an absolute joy for anyone of any age. The interactive headsets we were given were amazing. They allowed you to set your own pace and the information given was really, really good. Some of the cars have incredibly fascinating back stories. There is such a variety of British cars on show which are immaculate and it is very obvious that they have been restored and exhibited with love. We will definitely be back.

Wonderful exhibition of British Cars. All cars in good condition. Very clever hand held laptop / audio player loaded with masses of data and stories issued for free on entry, enabling you to investigate in depth any particular car that you are specifically interested in. Older visitors will enjoy seeing again cars that they once owned. Good Cafe for teas, coffees and light meals. Thoroughly enjoyed the day and will definitely visit again.

Really enjoyed walking around the cars of yesteryear. The tablet supplied gave great insight and history of them. Some great behind the scenes history and stories. Spent about 2 hours walking round the exhibits, but could spend much more if you wanted to listen to every story on offer. Recommended

The Great British Car Journey: Celebrating Britain’s contribution to popular motoring

Over 130 carefully chosen vehicles tell the story of the British motor industry on an interactive journey spanning the last 100 years.

Guided by an audio-visual tablet, visitors will meet the two founding fathers of the industry: Herbert Austin and William Morris, whose vast manufacturing plants in the Midlands produced millions of cars which were exported all over the world. British cars heralded a global transport revolution mobilising billions of people.

Now that era has passed. Cars have since become as reliable and disposable as a domestic appliance, and the industry has become globalised and centred in the East. China is the world’s largest car manufacturer, whilst Japan leads the export race which was once a British preserve. Austin, Morris and many other British brands have long since disappeared. however, they are now experiencing a renaissance in the Derbyshire Dales.

From the legendary Austin Seven to the magnificent Mini, Great British Car Journey tells the fascinating story of engineering, enterprise and endeavour which, for a brief period, saw British cars rule the road.

Dodge journey pros and cons: what to know when weighing your decision.

White Dodge Journey in a lot

Not all Dodge Journey years are created equal.

CoPilot Compare breaks down pricing and feature differences between Dodge Journey years so you can find the sweet spot between value AND reliability.

Source: Flickr

The Dodge Journey is one of the most affordable three-row SUVs on the market. Although it ceased production in 2020, it remains a popular choice for its price point. It also offers plenty of value - but is it a smart choice for a buyer? Before making any final decision, it’s critical to examine the Dodge Journey pros and cons.

If you’re interested in learning more about the best and worst aspects of the Dodge Journey, you’ve come to the right place. Though there are many places where the car excels, there are other spots where it falls far behind competitors. Keep reading to learn all you should know before deciding on the Dodge as your final option.

What We Love: Dodge Journey Pros

Everyone loves to see the positive aspects of a vehicle. Let’s first mention the benefits of the Dodge Journey pros and cons.

Ample Cargo Room

Although there isn’t too much cargo room with all the seats folded up, there is ample cargo room. Once things are folded and moved around, the Dodge Journey gets 10.17 cubic feet behind the third row, 37 cubic feet behind the second, and an astounding 67.6 cubic feet if the second row goes down. If you’re going on a journey, you can fit everything easily.

Of course, many three-row rivals have similar numbers, which is where the Dodge Journey pulls out its secret weapon. This vehicle offers a standard in-floor cargo compartment that works as a secret hiding spot to keep expensive items or another storage space if you need to fit many items in one load. Cargo room is a specialty in the Dodge Journey.

OTHER CAR SHOPPING APPS ARE OUTDATED

You won’t realize how outdated other car searching apps are until you try the CoPilot car shopping app . CoPilot does the hard work for you by searching all of the listings in your area and intelligently creating a personalized list of the best buys in the area that match what you’re looking for.

Plenty of Space for Passengers

Not only is there plenty of room for cargo but there’s enough space for tons of passengers to fit inside comfortably. It can fit up to seven people, which is enough for most average families and two friends or some additional cargo if you need to take the kids to a sports practice or dress rehearsal. Seven people will easily be able to climb in and out.

The second and third-row seats in the Journey recline, allowing for a unique comfort many three-row SUVs do not provide. Also, it’s possible to get in the third row from doors on either side of the Journey. This possibility can be a breath of fresh air for parents who struggle to get their younger children into the car. Easy access means simple driving for the whole family.

Practical Technology

Practical technology is another win for the Dodge Journey. There is plenty packed into the infotainment system, but none of it is so complicated that someone who isn’t great with tech will have to spend hours familiarizing themselves with it. It will only take a few drives to master what the Dodge Journey offers.

Popular technology in the Dodge Journey includes a standard 4.3-inch touchscreen, UConnect system, and physical knobs. If you want, it’s possible to upgrade to an 8-inch touchscreen for a few more technology options.

Easy-to-use tech is a win for everybody. It makes it easier to get from one point to another without delays from frustrating technology.

HOW LONG DO DODGE JOURNEYS LAST?

It’s an SUV with plenty of room for passengers and intuitive infotainment at a solid price point. If you’re considering the Dodge Journey, you might wonder - how long do Dodge Journeys last ?

Affordable Price Point

The final thing we love about the Dodge Journey is the affordable price. The Journey costs much less than competitors, so long as you stay at the base trim. Since the car has been discontinued, you can find it even cheaper than the original price point.

According to motortrend.com , the original MSRP of the Dodge Journey was $23,675. For a three-row SUV, this price point is low. You can even upgrade trim levels without worrying about spending too much on your next machine. It’s capable for what you pay for a used or new Dodge Journey.

What We Dislike: Dodge Journey Cons

Where there are beneficial items there are also bound to be some that are less-than-ideal. Let’s discuss the less appealing side of the Dodge Journey pros and cons.

No All-Wheel-Drive

Unfortunately, the Dodge Journey doesn’t come with all-wheel drive. It’s not that you can add it on - it’s not an included feature in the system. Most consumers looking into SUVs wanted all-wheel drive in previous years, which means the Dodge Journey missed out on the chance to appeal to a large segment of drivers with this add-on.

If you get any of the Dodge Journey years before 2019, you can get an all-wheel drive option. However, selecting the 2020 version means it isn’t a choice. Stick with the older Dodge Journeys if you want all-wheel drive as an option instead of the standard front-wheel drive of the 2020 mode.

Limited Advanced Driver Assistance Features

Finally, there are limited advanced driver assistance features on the Dodge Journey. Although there are some, there are far fewer than many competitors. Perhaps this is the reason why the car doesn’t cost too much - you won’t get as much out of the Dodge Journey on the safety front. It’s almost a shock.

The Dodge Journey does have a few standard features. It comes with a rearview camera and rearview parking sensors, but that’s about it. If you want anything more advanced, you must go with another car selection in the three-row SUV market.

Final Thoughts

There are many Dodge Journey pros and cons to consider if you’re contemplating this vehicle for your life. The three-row SUV offers ample cargo room, plenty of space for passengers, practical technology, and an affordable price point. However, it also has no all-wheel drive and comes with limited advanced driver assistance features.

We hope this information was helpful! It can feel overwhelming to try to land on the right car, especially if you’re going for something as large as the Dodge Journey. Luckily, seeing the pros and cons should clear things up. Some people might not mind the issues, while others will note them as something they can’t get over. Only you can decide what’s worth it.

Russell Yokley

Journey Rent-A-Car provided us with a 4 wheel drive 15 passenger van and configured it for our family of 6 adults and 3 children under 3. The communication prior to our arrival was above and beyond. Their professional personnel even recommended they remove 2 seats for luggage. This was perfect for all of our clothes and ski gear. The van was steps from the Bozeman Airport. This was an exceptional experience. I have travelled extensively on business and never had service that even came close!! I highly recommend Journey Rent-A-Car for anyone traveling to Bozeman, Montana.

Woody Hutsell

We rented a Kia Sorrento for a week during the Winter. Communication with Journey Rent-A-Car could not have been better. We had originally settled on a RAV-4 sized vehicle but decided to go up a class to accommodate a 5th person. Thankfully, we did as used every bit of space in the Sorrento. Given the unpredictability of weather on the track between Bozeman - Big Sky and - Yellowstone, we were keen on getting a car with all wheel drive and snow tires. Thankfully, we did! On the day of our trip from Big Sky to Yellowstone, it was actively snowing near blizzard conditions as we made our way to Yellowstone in the dark. The Sorrento handled the conditions superbly even as we saw cars that had slid off the side of the road. The vehicle pick up and return was simple. Overall, a good experience.

Charity Whiddon

Renting from Journey was such an easy process and totally worth skipping the chain companies at the airport. Taylor was so helpful and made our experience seamless. It also was an added benefit that our vehicle was so clean & comfortable!!! Totally worth every single penny. 100% recommend stepping away from the craziness and poor customer service at the airport and using Journey!

Dmitri Pelts

Absolutely thrilled with my experience with Journey Rent-A-Car car rental company! From start to finish, everything was seamless and hassle-free. We had last minute booking with Tom. He was friendly, professional, and provided all the information we needed for a smooth rental. We also got local restaurants recommendation. The process was incredibly easy. The car we rented was in excellent condition, clean, and ready to go when we arrived and it was last minute booking! Overall, a fantastic experience that made our trip so much more enjoyable. I'll definitely be choosing this car rental company again in the future! 5 stars without a doubt! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

New AI-Based Honda Scenic Audio App will Help Make the Joy of the Journey Accessible to the Blind and Visually Impaired

 • Honda Scenic Audio is the world's first AI-powered accessibility app to enhance journeys in motor vehicles for the blind and visually impaired
 • Innovative app developed in partnership Perkins School for the Blind's global DisabilityTech community
 • App complements Honda's long-standing commitment to helping the blind and visually impaired through local and corporate CSR efforts, including a three-decades long relationship with the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB)

Honda has developed an innovative web application utilizing AI technology to help expand the joy of the journey to the blind and visually impaired by creating and narrating nuanced real-time scenic audio descriptions of the world outside their car window.

Honda Scenic Audio video with audio descriptions

Developed in partnership with Perkins School for the Blind's Howe Innovation Center, the new Honda Scenic Audio app is the first AI-powered accessibility app built to enhance journeys in cars and other modes of transportationfor the blind and visually impaired.

"At Honda, through The Power of Dreams we apply our original technologies and ideas to realize mobility that enables our customers to enjoy life with more freedom, more convenience and more fun," said Phil Hruska, Senior Manager, Honda Marketing. "By creating a detailed narrative of the roadside views during a scenic driving experience, the Honda Scenic Audio app can help to open imaginations and enhance the joy of car travel to blind and visually impaired passengers."

Bringing Honda Scenic Audio to Life The Honda Scenic Audio app uses a combination of computer vision, generative AI, satellite imaging, and a multitude of other technologies and sources, including geotargeting and weather reports, to create a meticulously detailed, scenic narrative of what is taking place outside of the car window on a road trip or scenic drive, going beyond the basics of dictating the scenery.

For the blind and visually impaired, audio descriptions in media and entertainment enable inclusive experiences. Honda Scenic Audio was built to create multifaceted narratives with a literary tone and expressive descriptions with nuanced adjectives, recognizable sounds, comparisons of heights and terrain and even the temperature outside.

Long-Standing Support of the Blind and Visually Impaired Community Honda has long supported organizations in the blind and visually impaired community through its local and corporate CSR efforts, including the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) , a nearly 30-year Honda partner that is currently beta-testing the Scenic Audio app. Through these relationships, the Honda Scenic Audio app is now in beta-testing with members of the blind and visually impaired community, who will provide test and learn feedback. The Howe Innovation Center, a global DisabilityTech community, which is part of the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, Massachusetts in addition to collaborating on the app's creation is beta-testing the Scenic Audio app.

"At Perkins School for the Blind, we accelerate innovation for people with disabilities by connecting entrepreneurs, technologists and organizations like Honda with real users for primary market research and user testing," said Sandy Lacey, Executive Director of Perkins' DisabilityTech community, the Howe Innovation Center. "Scenic Audio supports our mission of creating a more accessible world for all by designing alongside and with the disability community. We are excited to collaborate on this project and applaud Honda for its leadership in creating inclusive auto experiences."

"Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) was founded on the premise that all individuals, regardless of exceptionality, should have opportunities to live limitless, independent, productive lives", said Dennis Gilliam, Ed.D., President, AIDB. "Technology, such as the Scenic Audio app Honda is rolling out in this beta testing, has helped bridge the gap from reliance upon others to independent living and discovery. AIDB is thrilled to bring our dedication to innovation and collaboration to this partnership with Honda to support the power of all individuals to make their dreams a reality."

Honda is poised to continue advancing this accessibility technology through testing to enable more people in its communities to experience Scenic Audio and enjoy the ride. This includes members of Honda associates' ENABLE Business Resource Group (BRG) that works to transcend conventional boundaries and strengthen diversity of abilities within and outside of Honda.

About Honda Honda offers a full line of clean, safe, fun, and connected vehicles sold through more than 1,000 independent U.S. Honda dealers. People race for all sorts of reasons, often for fun, and the most fun is winning. But before the fun winning can take place, there are some elemental steps that have to happen first.

In Episodes 5 and 6 of our “A Radical Journey” video series, Chris McMurry goes over two critical topics that will make everyone’s adventures into racing safer and with fewer hassles, which are precursors to having fun, and hopefully winning.

Episode 5 goes over things to consider when picking an organization to prep and run your race car, while Episode 6 delves into the benefits of testing. Both of these are critical to a racer’s ability to go fast and be successful regardless of level or ambition.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Follow along as the solar eclipse journeys across the United States — with the moon momentarily blocking the sun for over 180 million people living in its path, including some lucky upstate New Yorkers, who will take in the celestial extravaganza Monday afternoon.

The highly anticipated eclipse will travel from Mexico’s Pacific Coast up to the coast of Newfoundland, Canada, hitting 15 US states along the way.

A map showing the path of totality for a total solar eclipse Monday, April 8, 2024. The eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The total solar eclipse will begin over the South Pacific Ocean. Weather permitting, the first location in continental North America that will experience totality is Mexicoâs Pacific coast at around 11:07 a.m. PDT.

While over 180 million people will be in the eclipse’s path, including some 32 million Americans living in the path of totality, clouds may prevent parts of the southern and central US from witnessing the natural phenomenon.

The eclipse will last for several hours surrounding almost four minutes of darkness in the zone of totality — a narrow band of about 100 miles that stretches from Mexico to Maine and beyond.

Everything to know about the 2024 solar eclipse

 • The solar eclipse will take place Monday, April 8, blocking the sun for over 180 million people in its path.
 • The eclipse will expand from Mexico’s Pacific Coast across North America , hitting 15 US states and pulling itself all the way to the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.
 • New Yorkers will experience the solar eclipse just after 2 p.m. Monday.
 • A huge explosion on the sun , known as a coronal mass ejection, is anticipated, according to experts. This happens when massive particles from the sun are hurled out into space, explains Ryan French of the National Solar Observatory in Boulder, Colorado.
 • To avoid serious injury to the eyes , it is necessary to view the event through proper eyewear like eclipse glasses , or a handheld solar viewer, during the partial eclipse phase before and after totality.
 • The next total solar eclipse will take place on Aug. 12, 2026, and totality will be visible to those in Greenland, Iceland, Spain, Russia and a small slice of Portugal.

Those looking to take in the eclipse are urged to view the event through proper, NASA-approved eyewear like eclipse glasses , or a handheld solar viewer, to avoid eye damage.

The eclipse will enter the US in Texas and travel through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Small parts of Tennessee and Michigan will also experience the total solar eclipse, NASA said.

The eclipse will exit continental North America on the Atlantic coast of Newfoundland, Canada, just after 3:30 p.m. EST.

It will be the last time a total solar eclipse passes over a large part of the U.S. until 2044.

Another total solar eclipse won’t be visible from New York again until 2079, when the zone of totality will include the five boroughs.

The most intensive transportation in Russia is high-density traffic between St. Petersburg and Moscow . Two Russian capitals are tied by several means of transport, and each of them is preferred by different people, having different reasons for that. Each type of transportation, by car, by train and by plane has its advantages and disadvantages, tied with the price and time you spend traveling.

First of all, the Russian capitals are tied with the M10 highway, which begins in the traffic jam on the Leningradsky Avenue and goes through St. Petersburg farther to Vyborg and to the frontier with Finland as M10 Scandinavia. The distance between St. Petersburg and Moscow amounts to 664 km. The M10 highway has the drives to the cities of Novgorod and Tver . Going down the highway, you pass them by, and the journey takes you about 8 hours. The main advantage of the journey by car is that you dispose your time without depending on any schedules. The main disadvantage is that the road is rather difficult. The first problem is traffic jams in Moscow; the second one is unimproved road, now under reconstruction, in the Novgorod Region . Third one is tracks, especially on the pieces of the road reducing. The last, but very important problem is rather wild style of driving in Russia, being practiced by all the road users, including the track drivers. The price of such journey depends on the model of the car, you will drive.

Rent a car in Moscow

2. By train

This way to get from St. Petersburg to Moscow and back is the oldest and the most popular ones. Moreover, the railroad between St. Petersburg and Moscow is the oldest one in Russia. The cheapest ticket in the coach costs 580 rubles. Such train runs the same 8 hours, the driving would take you.

Book Train tickets Moscow - Saint Petersburg

3. By plane

The flight from St. Petersburg to Moscow or back takes the traveler 1 hour 20 minutes. A plenty of air carriers provides such service, from Aeroflot, the oldest, most respectable and expensive air company of Russia to low cost companies like Sky-express. The prices of the tickets begin from 500 rubles without airport charge and other extras. All the Moscow airports provide this service about three times a day. Doubtless, this way is the fastest one, especially if you use on-line registration. Unfortunately, not all of us like flying and plains.

My family tried traveling by train instead of car, and I get the hype. Here are 6 ways rail travel is better.

 • After taking road trips throughout the US, I tried traveling by Amtrak train instead.
 • My experiences on the rails have been comfortable and hassle-free, albeit not the most efficient.
 • Trains aren't the answer for every trip, but I've begun to incorporate them into more of my travels.

Ahead of my family vacation to California, I dreamed of cruising down the Pacific Coast Highway . There was just one problem: My son suffered from terrible car sickness.

To avoid scrubbing vomit out of a rental car's upholstery, I booked tickets on the Amtrak Coast Starlight from Oakland to Santa Barbara.

The smooth, nine-hour journey offered all of the magnificent ocean views I would've wanted to see on the road trip, with none of the upset stomachs.

Since that trip, my son has found ways to manage his car sickness, and we've successfully traveled to 44 states by car. But there's a host of reasons my family is still choosing to return to rail travel .

When it comes to spectacular views, there's a lot to see from train windows.

Though not all of Amtrak's routes pass idyllic settings, some journey through the US' most beautiful landscapes. Many Amtrak trains offer scenic views of some of the country's most beautiful locales.

When it comes to spectacular views , there's a lot to see from train windows.

Though not all of Amtrak's routes pass idyllic settings, some journey through the US' most beautiful landscapes. I've enjoyed gazing at vineyards, mountains, harbor seals, and more on my rail travels.

Many Amtrak trains, including the Coast Starlight, have observation cars with giant picture windows designed with sightseeing in mind.

As someone who's generally the designated driver on road trips , I savor the ability to sit back and take in the stunning scenery without the fear of taking my eyes off the road for too long.

Though trains aren't the most glamorous way to travel, I loved how easy the whole journey was and am eager to book more rail-based trips in the future.

The ability to accomplish work and other tasks, especially ones that I can't do while driving or navigating airports, is appealing, as is the ability to sit back and unwind while someone else does the steering.

The benefits of train travel became especially evident as we drove to Baltimore on the final leg of our trip. During a heavy rainstorm, I got stuck in a traffic jam while navigating unfamiliar roads.

At that moment, I longed instead to be sitting back in my train seat, effortlessly cruising to my next destination.

Some trains also stop in underrated destinations I wouldn't have otherwise visited.

Amtrak offers picturesque long-haul journeys through the Rockies , the American Southwest, and beyond.

The prospect of gazing at snowcapped mountains and soaring red-rock formations is exciting, but these journeys also offer a compelling opportunity to stop and explore less-touted areas along the way — ones that I probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit otherwise.

Though some of the highlights from my road trips have been stumbling upon hidden gems in locales often labeled as flyover states (like spots in the US' heartland), driving through the Midwest's flatlands can feel like a bit of a slog.

However, I find stretches of farmland infinitely more charming when I view them out of a train window instead of a car dashboard.

Between gas prices and rental-car charges, road trips can be expensive ventures.

When it comes to Amtrak trains, you can expect to pay a premium for a private room in a sleeping car or a coveted last-minute ticket. However, you can usually find reasonably priced tickets with some advance planning.

On a trip my family recently took from New York to Pennsylvania, all three of our tickets for the Amtrak Keystone Service cost me a total of $47.50 — an absolute steal considering our trip fell during a peak travel period.

In many major cities, I probably would've paid the same amount for a few hours of parking.

Depending on the itinerary and season, traveling by train can be more affordable than driving.

I feel safer traveling by train than by car, especially in poor weather conditions.

It gives me peace of mind to know that taking a train is statistically safer than driving a car . Plus, Amtrak has a lot of safety standards in place .

Though I feel confident in my driving abilities, I prefer not to be behind the wheel in certain situations, like when I have to navigate Manhattan streets or battle icy road conditions.

Trains are usually less impacted by weather, making them a solid transportation option in less-than-ideal conditions.

Amtrak's seats feel wider and more comfortable than the ones in most cars.

It's no surprise that traveling can make you feel a bit cramped, especially if you're constricted to a car seat for a long drive.

The trains' observation and dining cars are a real treat for my family since they allow us to enjoy peaceful moments, play a rousing game, or simply take advance of the freedom that comes with not being strapped in one place.

Train travel isn't always the fastest way to reach my destination, but I've found that it's the mode of transportation that gives me the most time to be productive.

As someone who works remotely, trains are the perfect place to multitask and catch up on my to-do list, something I can't accomplish as easily in cars.

I obviously can't use my computer while driving, and attempting to do so in the passenger seat makes me queasy. Rail journeys give me time and space to work, spend time with family, and rest.

Train travel isn't always the fastest way to reach my destination, but I've found that it's the mode of transportation that gives me the most time to be productive .

Trains aren't the right option for every trip, but I look forward to incorporating more of them in my future travels.

Amtrak trains have provided a lot of benefits for my family, but like any mode of transportation, they come with their own set of downsides. Trains, especially long-haul ones, are known to be plagued with delays. So you do have to pack some patience and be flexible.

The routes Amtrak offers can also be limiting and inconvenient, with the journey between some destinations requiring multiple train changes that take you hundreds of miles and many hours out of the way.

I've decided that they're a great way for my family to travel in addition to road trips, but not in place of them.

I adore the spontaneity and impulsiveness that comes with traveling by car and wouldn't trade the experience of pulling off the road to explore a quirky roadside attraction or stop for fresh baked goods at a local vendor's stand.

I'm already plotting future trips and can't wait to see what's ahead on the rails and on the road.

Nordegren gave birth to their son, Charlie, in February. In November that year, news of Woods’ alleged affair with Rachel Uchitel surfaced in the National Enquirer and he suffered injuries days later after crashing his car into a fire hydrant. Us then broke the news of the athlete’s second alleged affair with Jaimee Grubbs . He addressed the cheating rumors via his website, writing, “I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves. I am not without faults and I am far short of perfect. I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone.”

He issued another statement via his website where he acknowledged “the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children.” He then announced his “indefinite” break from golf.

He returned to golf post-scandal to play in the Masters Tournament that April, three months before his divorce to Nordegren.

He underwent a spinal fusion surgery in April, and one month later was arrested near his Florida home for driving under the influence. He pleaded guilty and was placed on a one-year probation and received a fine and community service. Woods announced in July that he completed an in-patient treatment for his issues with medication. In November, he confirmed his relationship with Erica Herman .

Woods was the subject of a two-part HBO Max documentary, titled Tiger , in January that explored many aspects of his life, including his infamous cheating scandal and his complicated relationship with his father. Shortly after the documentary’s release, Woods announced that he would be postponing his golf season after undergoing his fifth back surgery. In February, the golfer was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery on his legs after being involved in a serious single-vehicle accident in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.

While Woods returned to the Masters in April, he dropped out of the Hero World Challenge in November.

“In my preparation and practice for this week’s Hero World Challenge, I've developed plantar fasciitis in my right foot, which is making it difficult to walk,” he said in a statement. "After consulting with my doctors and trainers, I have decided to withdraw this week and focus on my hosting duties. My plan is to still compete in The Match and PNC Championship."

News subsequently broke that Woods quietly had two additional surgeries amid his ongoing injuries from his 2021 accident.

Woods and Herman’s split made headlines when she filed court docs to attempt to nullify the NDA that the athlete had her sign in 2017. She referenced the Speak Out Act, which “prohibits the judicial enforceability of a nondisclosure clause or nondisparagement clause agreed to before a dispute arises involving sexual assault or sexual harassment in violation of federal, tribal, or state law,” per Congress.

In April, Woods withdrew from the Masters in the third round due to an injury after making the cut at Augusta National.

Less than two weeks later, his team confirmed that Woods “underwent a subtalar fusion procedure to address post-traumatic arthritis from his previous talus fracture.”

The statement added: “Tiger is currently recovering and looks forward to beginning his rehabilitation.”

In May, Herman accused Woods of sexual harassment in court documents obtained by Us , claiming that her ex first sexually harassed her shortly after after she began working for his restaurant The Woods Jupiter in 2014. Herman's attorneys went on to allege that Woods "forced her to sign an NDA" in 2017 or else she would "be fired from her job." The athlete and Herman were already in a relationship at that point, but the lawyers pointed out in the filing that "a boss imposing different work conditions on his employee because of their sexual relationship is sexual harassment."

Herman also claimed that Woods sexually harassed her again in 2022 when he allegedly kicked her out of their home. "The landlord made the availability of her housing conditional on her having sexual relationship with a co-tenant," Herman's lawyers wrote in the court filing. "That conduct amounts to sexual harassment under federal and Florida fair housing laws."

Woods was forced to withdraw from the Genesis Invitational in February after suffering from influenza. He also competed in the Masters that same year.
