LA BELLA VITA Features

Cruising on la bella vita, venice and the river po venice to mantua (or reverse).

Sunday - Transfer to Barge in Venice Guests are met at the designated meeting point on Sunday afternoon and transferred to La Bella Vita for a Prosecco welcome. A late afternoon cruise takes us along the Giudecca Canal past some of Venice’s most famous monuments: the Chiesa del Redentore, the impressive Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute and the Punta della Dogana to our mooring outside the Naval Museum. Then time for a stroll to St Mark’s Square and a brief tour of the Doge’s Palace before dinner on board. Monday - Venice to San Pietro in Volta Guided walking tour to Castello District, perhaps discovering some hidden parts of the city of Venice: the gardens of the Biennale Exhibition of Modern Arts, Palladio’s Church of San Pietro in Castello, the Naval Museum with a model of the Bucintoro (Doge’s Boat) and the Pavilion of Gondolas housing Peggy Guggenheim’s own vessel. Late afternoon cruise to Pellestrina which separates the Venetian Lagoon from the Adriatic Sea, along the Canal of the Orphans, passing lagoon islands with their ancient monasteries, painted fishing boats and tiny churches. Dinner on board. Tuesday - San Pietro in Volta to Taglio di Po After a stroll or cycle along the 18th century Istrian sea wall in Pellestrina, we cruise to Chioggia, city of Goldoni’s plays. Here we visit the picturesque town centre and colourful fish market. We also see the Cathedral and the Piazzetta Vigo before cruising on to the River Po delta. Passing through a nature reserve with flamingos and occasional heron, snipe and other wildfowl, we travel upriver to Taglio di Po for dinner ashore hosted by the owners at the beautiful 17th century Villa Ca’Zen, a private stately home by the river where Lord Byron courted the Countess Giuccioli and wrote some of his best poetry. Wednesday - Taglio di Po to Bosaro This morning we cruise to Adria, an ancient Etruscan town and visit the Archaeological Museum. After lunch on board, we drive to the Bagnoli Estate where we tour the Renaissance gardens and wine cellars of the 17th century Villa Widmann Borletti, for a private tasting of their renowned estate grown vintages. This winery has been supplying Venetian society for centuries. Afternoon cruise to Bosaro. Dinner on board. Thursday - Bosaro to Trevenzuolo Morning excursion with guided tour of the Renaissance city of Ferrara, including the 14th century Estense Castle with its moat, drawbridges, marble balconies and sumptuous apartments, and the Schifanoia Palace with its fabulous 15th century frescoes. We also see the cathedral façade with its sculpted images described as an illustrated Bible. Return to the hotel barge for an afternoon canal cruise past villages and farmsteads to Trevenzuolo and dinner on board. Friday - Trevenzuolo to Mantua Our final cruise has a dramatic approach to Mantua, home of the poet Virgil, artists Mantegna and Donatello and a captivating lakeside setting. Mantua displays extraordinary neo-classical and baroque architecture, portrayed in the 14th century Ducal Palace housing some 15 gardens and courtyards, a museum, basilica and theatre. The intricate frescoes, Gallery of Mirrors and exquisite Rivers Room and 12,000 paintings and sculptures all create a Grand Finale to our Italian Renaissance adventure. Captain’s Farewell Dinner on board. Saturday - Mantua After breakfast, disembark La Bella Vita and transfer to the designated drop-off point. This is a sample itinerary and is subject to change. The itinerary is in reverse direction on alternate weeks.

We arrived on the NCL Epic. Wanting to have some control over our time rather than the cruise tours, we decided on using BellaItalia. This turned out to be a GREAT decision! A minivan with driver was booked for the day to transport 6 adults. The driver was excellent and provided fun and interesting information as we made the drive from the port to Florence. He even shared jis favorite gelato spot and coffee spot, both of which added fun to our day. Our driver and van were easy to find as we entered the port building. The van was a recent model Mercedes in very good shape making for a comfortable drive. BellaItalia arranged for our museum tickets in advance and all went smoothly. We made changes to our schedule through the day as distractions made for some enjoyable opportunities. Having a private driver made this possible. We HIGHLY recommend BellaItalia and will use them each time we are near Florence. Thank you to the entire staff at BellaItalia for a wonderful experience.

Our group of 6 ladies had a highly enjoyable day on the Private Chianti tour. Our driver, Massimo was prompt and attentive in picking us up in our hotel lobby and he was an excellent navigator through the tricky Tuscan roads. He was very knowledgeable on many things Tuscan, and as a sommelier, he educated us on the Chianti wine before we even arrived at the winery. We toured the vineyard and then had a long tasting that included a generous assortment of cold cuts, cheese and bread. In addition to Chianti, we also tasted their dessert wine, Vin Santo and their olive oil, all were very good. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and would highly recommend this tour and specifically our tour director/driver Massimo.

Is anybody interested in joining us for a small group tour? We will be docking in Livorno on May 20, 2022.

We had a great time on our tour. The guide, Veronica, was waiting for us when we got off the ship. It was rainy most of the morning, so the ferries were not running at Cinque Terre. She was great about working around the weather issues and making sure we still had a great time. The driver was awesome too. Great tour company!

10 THINGS YOU WANT TO KNOW WHEN TRAVELLING TO ABRUZZO

About Experience BellaVita

Authentic local experiences and tours in abruzzo and beyond.

Experience BellaVita is an independent, family-run company with a specialty in offering unique local culinary and traditional cultural experiences in Abruzzo, and other untold destinations in Italy.

Ciao! I’m Marino Cardelli, founder and culinary expert at Experience BellaVita . I was born and raised in a small village in the province of Teramo in Abruzzo. I left home at 19 years old to broaden my horizons and fulfill my dream of living and studying in a foreign country and learning a new language.

I have always been curious and enthusiastic about sharing my passion for the things I love. That includes my love of coffee, craft beer, food, and wine, but above all, I’m excited about sharing the Italian culture and my home region, Abruzzo!

“Where are you from? This was the question you often get asked abroad – and each time I would meet someone new, on one hand I was unhappy because people didn’t know the existence of Abruzzo, but on the other hand, I was delighted as I could inspire and share with people a more authentic travel destination. I loved to do this by sharing pictures, stories and food (my parents’ delivery) from my homeland and it was part of my experience of living abroad, but I always wanted to do more than just that!

Despite my success at work and university, I realized how happy it made me to just share my passion for Abruzzo. I quit my job and in 2018 I moved back to Abruzzo to start my dream, Experience BellaVita.

To share the authentic culture of Italy, enrich the lives of curious travelers with that ‘feel like home’ sensation, and to transform well-traveled routes into magical and unforgettable moments.

What drives us at Experience BellaVita is enthusiasm and passion for food, traditions, art, travel and people. Through these unique experiences, we want to:

  • Provide our visitors, who often become our friends, with unforgettable moments.
  • Give back to “Madre Natura” what she has given us and always treat our environment with respect.
  • Support the local economies and traditions of our small but fascinating Abruzzese villages.
  • Reduce the emigration of young passionate folks like us, and bring them back to Abruzzo.
  • Help small home-producers in the region.

Around the many tables with nice food and wine, is where I made my strongest friendships. I believe it is the best way to really get to know a person, a culture.

BellaVita Selection Process

For our BellaVita Tours we search for and select our collaborators personally. All of them are small entrepreneurs, artisans, and producers based in Abruzzo who are passionate and keep Italy’s old traditions alive.

On our scouting trips, we always pretend to be tourists, if the person, whether at a B&B, a restaurant, or at a farm can transmit their emotion, passion and enthusiasm for what they do to us, then we decide to introduce ourselves and start a collaboration.

While doing this selection and work, we are dedicated to devoting part of our profit annually to the development of the local economy with events and projects aimed to do so.

Some of the social projects we partnered with:

  • Campovalano Viva – Promoting tourism through one of the best sagra (food festivals) of Abruzzo. Helping run the iconic ‘Sagra del Tartufo’ (the Truffle Festival), which attracts and hosts more than 30 thousand visitors from all over the region and beyond each year for an entire week.
  • Gusta Torano – Local association on the hills of Teramo where we helped to create and promote multi day tours and events around local food, wine and traditions.
  • inTERazioni – Promotion of cultural activities and tourism in the hinterland of Teramo, in Abruzzo.

Why BellaVita?

What makes us different.

At Experience BellaVita we aspire to share the authentic culture of Italy, la bella vita, and enrich the lives of curious travelers with that ‘feel like home’ sensation. We are passionate about transforming well-traveled routes into magical and unforgettable moments.

BellaVita is a lifestyle, we live it and we also choose to make our passion our job! We are driven by the desire to help people enjoy themselves and get the most from their holiday in Italy.

A distinct yet indescribable island, beautiful Sicily has withstood centuries of tyranny and upheaval to emerge as a vital and varied cultural region, as you’ll discover on this action-packed bicycle tour. The Mediterranean’s largest island, Sicily’s soil and architecture reveal layers of intriguing history left during its rule by Arabs, Greeks, Romans, Saracens, French, Spanish, and Bourbons, and all their influences are still felt today. Focusing on Sicily’s lush green spectacle in springtime and its vast golden stage in autumn, our bike trip itinerary ranges from the southern and northeastern tip of the island to beautiful and historic interior areas never seen by most tourists. Our cycling journey includes a hike up Mt Etna, the highest volcano in Europe, and reaches its apex as we explore the dreamy, volcanic Aeolian Islands, each with its own distinct character and charm.

Tour Essence

  • Witness views of Europe’s highest volcano, the Mount Etna
  • Experience two days on exotic Aeolian islands
  • Learn more about the Baroque Ragusa and the Greek monuments of Siracusa
  • Visit a Slow Food presidia of capers, olive oil and Malvasia wine in Lipari
  • Stay in luxury hotels and enjoy delicious Sicilian feasts including fresh seafood and vegetables

Hike, swim, and bike where the movie “Il Postino” was filmed and enjoy traditional Sicilian food, wine, and music, while stopping each night at a luxury hotel. Sicily boasts some of the finest examples of Greek architecture in the world, and we’ll explore its most spectacular sites as we ride through Ragusa, Siracusa, San Giovanni la Punta and more. A ride up into the remote and haunting Altopiano Ibleo area, a visit to the exquisite Villa Donnafugata, and the spectacular views from Taormina are just a few of the many highlights of this Sicilian bike trip. Finally, we’ll board a boat to continue our journey on the Aeolian Islands of Lipari, with its deep caverns, steep cliffs, and splendid views, and Salina, which we’ll explore on a bicycle while learning about its fascinating ancient history.

Confirmed tours are dates that have been selected by us that have a very high probability of reaching the minimum group size for us to run the tour and for you to receive the best Ciclismo Classico experience. These tours are confirmed as much as a year in advance, compared to our regularly scheduled tours which are confirmed around 90 days prior to departure.  When you place your deposit for a confirmed tour, you have the green light to make your pre and post travel plans and even book your flight with our personal guarantee that your tour will run!

If you are traveling alone, this optional single supplement will guarantee you a room to yourself at each hotel. The cost of a single room is often more than half the price of a shared room, so this additional supplement reflects that increased cost for each night over the course of the trip.
