Lada Niva Legend und Travel Modellpflege : Endlich (wieder) mit ABS und Euro 5

Lada musste sein Offroad-Urgestein zwischenzeitlich technisch zurück rüsten. Doch nun kehren Features in den Niva zurück, die anderswo selbstverständlich sind.

Der Lada Niva war schon lange, bevor Russland seinen Angriffskrieg in der Ukraine begann, von den west- und mitteleuropäischen Märkten verschwunden. Der zentrale Grund dafür war seine Rückständigkeit in puncto Sicherheit und Abgasverhalten. Diese verschlimmerte sich nach der russischen Invasion im westlichen Nachbarland weiter: Nachdem die Produktion des Offroad-Urgesteins zwischenzeitlich sogar pausierte , flogen nach deren Wiederaufnahme für die Märkte in der Heimat und in befreundeten Ländern aufgrund der westlichen Sanktionen Zulieferteile wie ABS, Airbags oder das automatische Notrufsystem E-Call raus aus dem Niva.

Nun gönnt Avtovaz, der staatseigene Hersteller der Lada-Modelle, dem Niva eine Modellpflege. Sowohl der Niva Legend im klassischen Look als auch der moderner konzipierte Niva Travel erhalten das Anti-Blockiersystem zum Modelljahr 2024 zurück. Obendrein erfüllen sie fortan die Euro-5-Abgasnorm. Letzteres sei Neukalibrierungen der Antriebseinheit und der Motorsteuergeräte zu verdanken. Diese seien in Russland entwickelt worden, was einer Mitteilung zufolge "die technologische Souveränität von Lada" beweise.

Preise ab umgerechnet 9.300 Euro

Vom Prädikat "Hightech" sind die Lada-Niva-Varianten Legend und Travel freilich auch mit den Neuerungen weit weg. Wir erinnern uns: ABS wurde bereits von 1978 an in die ersten Automodelle eingebaut und ist seit 2004 in allen in der EU verkauften Autos eine serienmäßige Pflichtausstattung. Euro 5 wurde von der Europäischen Union ab September 2009 für neue Fahrzeugtypen und ab Jahresbeginn 2011 für alle Neuwagen vorgeschrieben. Zum bevorstehenden Jahreswechsel tritt die Abgasnorm Euro 6e für alle Neuwagen in Kraft, die dann in drei Stufen jeweils nochmals leicht verschärft wird.

Avtovaz begann Anfang Dezember mit der Produktion der Niva-Legend- und -Travel-Vertreter des Modelljahres 2024, wobei ABS und Euro 5 für alle Modellvarianten erhältlich ist. Die Topversionen des Lada Niva Travel verfügen zusätzlich über einen Tempomat mit Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzer, einen Bordcomputer, ein beleuchtetes Kombiinstrument und zweifarbige Leichtmetallräder. Die Preise starten bei 927.500 Rubel (aktuell umgerechnet gut 9.300 Euro) für die Legend-Version und knapp 1,22 Millionen Rubel (ungefähr 12.200 Euro) für die Travel-Variante.

Nachdem der Low-Tech-Offroader Lada Niva vor gut eineinhalb Jahren zwangsweise noch etwas altmodischer wurde, kehrt nun wieder ein wenig Modernität in den Geländewagen-Klassiker zurück. Zum Modelljahr 2024 erhalten der Niva Legend und sein SUV-Ableger Niva Travel ABS und die Abgasnorm Euro 5 zurück. An der sich stetig verschlimmernden technischen Rückständigkeit der russischen Modelle ändert das jedoch nur wenig.

So trug es sich zu, dass wir, die edlen Zenturien unter der AUTONOTIZEN-Flagge eines Tages den Streitwagen am Fahrbahn zu Stehen brachten. Just an jenem Fleck, an dem ein „Borneo“-Grün lackierter Lada Niva Travel feilgeboten wurde.

Wie jetzt? Niva? Heisst der Gelände-Lada nicht mittlerweile 4x4? Im Rahmen einer Kooperation mit General Motors versilberten die Russen einst ihren ikonischen Namen, was zum in Russland gebauten Chevrolet Niva führte. Der parallel weitergebaute Lada der ersten Generation hieß fortan 4x4. GM und Lada gehen seit längerer Zeit wieder getrennte Wege, der Name ist zurück. Lada Niva Legend heißt der moderne Klassiker. Die neue Generation, die so neu auch gar nicht mehr ist, hört auf die Bezeichnung Lada Niva Travel. Eben jener ließ 2020 ein Facelift über sich ergehen. Die neue Frontpartie steht selbstbewusster im Fahrtwind, der so arg schnell aber gar nicht dagegenbläst. Doch später mehr hierzu.

Nicht länger als Polo und Co.

Den Lada Niva Travel gibt es, im Gegensatz zum weiterhin angebotenen Lada Niva Legend, nur noch als Fünftürer. Mit einer Länge von 4,06 Metern ist er aber weiterhin sehr kompakt und liegt auf dem Niveau eines Kleinwagens. Das hilft vor allem beim Kraxeln in Wald und Dickicht. Aber auch im Stadtverkehr ist der Russe damit wendiger als viele SUV. Die keine Artgenossen sind, denn auch im neuen Kleid bleibt er ein waschechter Offroader.

Das technische Rüstzeug ist nämlich weitestgehend unverändert. Das gilt auch für den 1,7 Liter großen Benzinmotor mit vier Zylindern. Er leistet im Niva Travel 59 kw / 80 PS und damit drei Pferdestärken weniger als im Legend-Modell. Die Fahrleistungen sind entsprechend mehr Fahr als Leistung: 19 Sekunden gehen für den leichten Trab von null auf 100 km/h, die Höchstgeschwindigkeit liegt bei 140 km/h.

Beides konnten wir während der ersten Probefahrten mit einem Händlerauto nicht bis zum Exzess ausprobieren. Das gilt, auch mangels legaler Möglichkeit, für die Geländeeigenschaften. Also ging es entspannt über Landstraßen und durch Ortschaften.

Innen wird es modern

Überraschend komfortabel gleitet man im Niva Travel dahin. Die Vorwarnungen, die den noch Niva-unbedarften Autor ereilten, sind zumindest in Bezug auf das neue Modell unbegründet. Die Sitze sind plüschig weich, das Fahrwerk unauffällig. Bis zur ersten Kurve. Die muss weder eng, noch das Auto schnell sein. Schon früh neigt sich der Russe zur Seite, die Schulter sucht den Kontakt zum Beifahrer.

Je nach Händler und Verfügbarkeit gibt es den Lada Niva Travel in verschiedenen Ausstattungslinien. „Comfort“ und „Luxe“ sind auch mit Offroad-Paket zu haben, das sich durch einen Luftschnorchel an der fahrerseitigen A-Säule, dunkle Felgen und spezielle Beplankungen auszeichnet. Unser Testwagen fuhr als Luxe vor. Dann bringt er auch ein Audiosystem mit Touchscreen ins Spiel. Hier lässt sich nicht nur die Navigation bedienen, sondern auch das Bild einer Rückfahrkamera betrachten. Moderne Zeiten also im Lada Niva, zu denen auch die LED-Rückleuchten zählen.

Die Materialqualität im Innenraum ist rustikal und pflegeleicht, wie es nicht anders zu erwarten war. Zumindest auf den ersten Blick und während der ersten Kilometer passt die Verarbeitung. In der Mittelkonsole fehlt der dritte Hebel, Verteilergetriebe und Geländeuntersetzung teilen sich jetzt einen Bedienstock.

Der 320 Liter große Kofferraum steckt hinter einer nach links öffnenden Tür. Bei Bedarf kann man nicht nur die Rücksitzlehnen, sondern auch deren Flächen umlegen. Dann entsteht ein einigermaßen ebener Laderaum für sperriges Gut. Sperrig ist auch die Verbrauchsangabe. Ein Wert von 12,3 Litern je 100 Kilometer steht im Prospekt. Das verwundert etwas, denn warum sollte der Niva Travel fast drei Liter mehr Benzin schlucken als der Niva Legend? Erfahrungsberichte von Niva-Fahrern können gerne eingereicht werden.

Das kostet der Lada Niva Travel

Die Preise des Lada Niva Travel beginnen bei etwa 18.000 Euro. Das Topmodell Luxe Offroad, das von Auto Hütter in Meiningen / Walldorf (danke sehr für das Ausleihen des Testwagens!) angeboten wird, soll dort 19.990 Euro kosten. Damit liegt der Lada Niiva Travel mit guter Ausstattung unter dem Suzuki Jimny Nutzfahrzeug. Beide eint ihr rustikaler Charakter und ihre Kompetenz im harten Arbeitseinsatz von Förstern, Jägern und auf Baustellen.

Die Ersatzteilversorgung für den Lada Niva Travel dürfte gesichert sein, da viele Teile des alten Niva passen und neues Zeug in Russland munter weitergebaut wird.

Am Ende der Geschichte sitzen wir zwar nicht feiernd mit der Dorfgemeinschaft ums Lagerfeuer. Trotzdem bleibt ein zufriedenes Grinsen auf dem Gesicht. Denn auch im modernen Kleid macht der Lada Niva Travel auf seine Art und Weise Spaß. Wer weiß, vielleicht geht es ja irgendwann nochmal gemeinsam auf Pfade abseits der Straße…

Die Russen-Kante Lada Niva ist Kult - und bei korrekter Rostvorsorge und Pflege ein faszinierendes Alltagsauto für alle, die nicht der Komfort-verwöhnten Generation Schneeflöckchen angehören. Nun kommt der Niva als Neuauflage. FOCUS Online hat ihn getestet.

Der legendäre Lada Niva blieb immer der Niva, auch wenn er offiziell eine ganze Zeit lang nicht so heißen durfte – hatte sich doch General Motors den Namen für den fünftürigen Chevrolet Niva aus dem Joint Venture mit Avtovaz gesichert. Das Gemeinschaftsunternehmen ist seit über einem Jahr Geschichte. Und nun gibt es zwei Niva, den bei uns zuletzt schlicht als 4x4 vermarkteten Urahn und den ehemaligen Chevrolet als (etwas) moderneren Lada Niva Travel. Auch wenn der Import in Europa offiziell beendet wurde, zu haben sind beide in Deutschland. Die Lada Automobile GmbH, die mit ihren über 200 Händlern weiterhin für den Service zuständig ist, holt die Fahrzeuge in homöopathischen Dosen per Einzelabnahme ins Land.

Lada Niva kommt in kleinen Stückzahlen zu uns

Nach dem Ausstieg von GM spendierte Lada dem ehemaligen Chevrolet erst einmal eine komplett neue und kantige Frontpartie. Sie steht ihm besser als die runde Vorgängerform. Mit 4,10 Metern ist der Travel vier Zentimeter kürzer als die gestreckte fünftürige Version des ehemaligen Lada 4x4, der in Russland jetzt als Niva Legend vermarktet wird. Der altbekannte 1,7-Liter-Motor büßt hier drei PS ein und sorgt Niva-typisch für eine entschleunigte Form der Fortbewegung, für die auch die lediglich 140 km/h Höchstgeschwindigkeit stehen. Das sind nur drei Stundenkilometer mehr als im Legend. Und von Null bis Tempo 100 benötigt der Travel offiziell 19,4 Sekunden. Die so gut wie rückmeldungsfreie Lenkung animiert ebenfalls nicht zu forscherer Gangart. Die darf der Travel aber dann im Gelände an den Tag legen. Mit permanenten Allradantrieb, Untersetzung und mittigem Sperrdifferenzial macht ihm in Verbindung mit den kurzen Überhängen und den kompakten Abmessungen abseits der Straße so schnell keiner was vor. Hier deklassiert der Lada ganz klar den Dacia Duster.

Wo der Niva den Dacia Duster deklassiert

Günstiger ins Offroad-Gelände geht es nur mit dem älteren Bruder.Dennoch überrascht der neue Niva auch auf Asphalt. Da ist zum einen die recht komfortable Federung, zum anderen das erstaunlich geringe Geräuschniveau der etwas in die Jahre gekommenen Konstruktion. Erst ab etwa 110 km/h und jenseits der 3300 Umdrehungen in der Minute wird es lauter im Lada, der übrigens über eine an den unteren Ecken deutlich gebogene Windschutzscheibe verfügt. Das Fünf-Gang-Getriebe benötigt etwas Nachdruck, rastet aber präzise ein. Etwas beherzter darf auch auf die Bremse getreten werden, die den Travel erheblich früher zum Stehen bringen als den bisherigen 4x4.

Schlammcatchen: Russischer Kult-Lada im Härtetest

Die Instrumentenanzeigen und die Schalter versprühen den Charme der späten 1990er-Jahre, sind gegenüber dem Legend aber natürlich ebenfalls ein Sprung nach vorn. Zudem ist der Travel flexibler konstruiert. Die Rücksitzbank lässt sich geteilt umklappen und schafft dank hochstellbarer Sitzpolster eine ebene Ladefläche von gut 1,20 Meter Länge. Es gibt Halteklammern für die Gurtbänder und Taschen für die -schlössser sowie Isofix. Pfiffig finden wir die Mittelarmlehne. Wird sie um 180 Grad nach hinten geklappt verwandelt sie sich in einen Cupholder für die Fondpassagiere.

Die Heizung verdient ihren Namen wirklich

Gewohnt leistungsstark präsentiert sich die Heizung. Die direkt aus Russland eingeführten Versionen kommen ohne Klimaanlage, aber auch die beschafft die deutsche Lada GmbH auf Wunsch. Gleiches gilt für die fehlenden hinteren Kopfstützen, die den Niva Travel ebenfalls als Auto der Neunziger ausweisen. Ohnehin ist das eine oder andere Extra per Absprache möglich, wie auch die an unserem Exemplar montierten Trittbretter und das Infotainmentsystem mit optionaler Kartennavigation und Bluetooth-Freisprechanlage zeigen. Das alles spiele aber für die spezielle Lada-Klientel ohnehin keine große Rolle, weiß Bernd Haack vom Marketing. Ebenso wenig wie der Verbrauch. Wie der Legend ist der Niva Travel ein Nischenfahrzeug für Individualisten, echte Offroadfahrer und Menschen, die sich gerne in frühere Autozeiten zurückversetzen lassen, ohne sich einen teuren und im Zweifelsfall erst noch zu restaurierenden Oldtimer zulegen zu wollen. Und ganz nebenbei machen sie allen weichgespülten SUV eine lange Nase.

Der neue Niva ist reichlich teuer geworden

Leider ist der Russen-Kult nun viel teurer geworden als bisher. Das exklusive Vergnügen beginnt bei 17.990 Euro in der Basisausführung. Aktuell ist der russische Neuzugang bei den ehemaligen Händlern und den Service-Werkstätten der Marke nur noch vereinzelt zu finden. Dem ehemaligen Importeur in Buxtehude liegen für nächstes Jahr aber bereits 40 bis 50 Vorbestellungen vor. (aum/jri)

That's not even the biggest thing that I am concerned about. What I am concerned about is its larger displacement engine making less power despite being Lada's first SUV design in about 45 years.

And that's a shame. This car have a potential, it just needs modern engine and gearbox.

Description

Technical description, information.

This modernized version of the classic Lada Niva is called the Travel. It is a compact SUV with a 5-door self-supporting body suspended with coil springs and telescopic absorbers. Its excellent performance is provided by an independently suspended front axle. A robust solid rear axle enables driving in demanding off-road conditions. The Travel takes over the best features of the Niva to become a unique comfortable car both for on-road and off-road driving. It includes Lada Niva's full-time 4WD, inter-axle locking differential and low speed gearbox.

Proved undemanding 8-valve engine with volume 1.7 liters is equipped with reliable injection system. In combination with manual transmission has Lada Niva SUV strong output which is avaible from low RPM. Petrol engine is suitable for alternative fuel drive like a LPG or CNG. Durable and high quality components ensure long lifespan of the engine.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. This heavily applies to all russian vehicles. The Lada Niva Travel makes use of the classic 8 valve 1.7 petrol engine, maintaining high reliability and low maintenance costs. The drivetrain features the traditional 5-speed manual, an inter axle locking differential and an enhanced additional 2-speed low range gearbox.

The new Lada Niva Travel offers generous comfort even in its basic trim: comfortable seats, central locking, electrically-operated front windows, electrically-adjustable and heated door mirrors, and a multimedia system with navigation avaible in the higher trims. The Travel also features significantly enhanced soundproofing.

Payment terms and conditions 

An advance payment of at least 80% is required when ordering a new vehicle from Russia. It can be agreed individually.

Vehicle delivery period

When ordering a new vehicle from Russia the delivery time is 6-9 months if the vehicle is not in stock at the manufacturer.

LADA AMC vehicle warranty conditions 

The standard warranty period provided by the importer according to the vehicle price offer is 24 months or up to 100 000 km driven, whichever occurs first. Warranty conditions can be agreed individually with the business entities: the vehicle warranty period can be reduced upon agreement with the customer in the form of a discount, or extended upon a surcharge. The warranty period cannot be reduced in case the customer is a natural person. Terms and conditions are governed by bilaterally signed vehicle warranty conditions which constitute an integral part of the purchase agreement and handed over documentation.

LADA AMC vehicle warranty repairs 

In case a failure occurs within the warranty period, it can be claimed:   

   1. at warranty service of AMC spare parts s.r.o., business address: Radíkovice 19, Hradec Králové 503 27, Czech Republic or at another chosen warranty service centre within the AMC service network (Warranty service centre is authorized to perform warranty repairs without a consent of the seller)

   2. at the seller, who, if necessary, issues a single license - written agreement with the specific defect repair at the selected service centre within the AMC network (Authorized Service is not authorized to perform warranty repairs without the consent of the seller)

Regular service of LADA AMC vehicles

1. AMC Full-Service: 

Regular vehicle service (as prescribed by the periodic maintenance in the service booklet) is provided by a service centre of the importer, authorized by AMC spare parts s.r.o., business address: Radíkovice 19, Hradec Králové 503 27, Czech Republic and through AMC full-service. The vehicle can be for a pre-agreed fixed fee regularly taken to be serviced by the importer and after performing the service it is immediately returned to the customer. There is full liability insurance for the vehicle taken. We recommend it for vehicles used in the Czech Republic and neighbouring countries.

2. Service through the network of authorized AMC service centres:

Regular vehicle service (as prescribed by the periodic maintenance in the service booklet) is provided by a contractual authorized service centre of the importer. It is guaranteed that the service centre is located within 40 km from a place of the vehicle operation. The authorized service centre is obliged and entitled to carry out the vehicle full service and repair works paid by the customer. The authorized service centre is not automatically entitled to exercise the rights of the buyer resulting from the warranty, but after a specific written consent of the seller it can be entitled to settle them. 

3. Find your service

Do you know a service centre in your neighbourhood that you would like to use for the maintenance of your new LADA vehicle? Do you know that they charge reasonable prices, have an experienced staff, good references and satisfied customers? Just ask. In case of interest, we are ready to sign a vehicle service authorization contract with your chosen service centre and to include it into the AMC authorized service network. 

Separate supplies of spare parts

Spare parts and additional equipment for LADA AMC vehicles are anytime ready for you at reduced prices in the central warehouse of AMC spare parts, s.r.o., business address: Radíkovice 19, Hradec Králové 503 27, Czech Republic. The spare parts are distributed via postal or courier service directly to your address every working day. Your order has to be received before 4:00 PM in order to be dispatched on the same day.

What the Hack: Die besten Tipps der Profis für unbeschwertes Reisen

Flugbegleiter Florian Schwebel ist auf Reisen gern für alle Fälle gewappnet. Hier verrät er seine besten Travel Hacks

In meinem Job habe ich eines schnell gelernt: Meistens braucht man nie all die Klamotten, die man in seinen Koffer gepackt hat. Deshalb wähle ich sehr bewusst aus, was ich mitnehme. Besonders dann, wenn ich wie so oft nur 24 Stunden an einem Ort bin.

Travel Hack #1: Jogsuit

Immer dabei habe ich einen „Jogsuit“ in einer Basicfarbe wie Grau oder Blau. So nennen sich Anzüge aus Jogginghosenstoff, die es von verschiedenen Marken gibt. Sie haben keine Bügelfalte, knittern nicht und sehen in Kombination mit Sneakern sehr lässig aus. Vor Ort kann man sie in die Waschmaschine stecken und ist sofort top gestylt, wenn man kurz nach der Ankunft abends noch ausgehen möchte.

Travel Hack #2: Longsleeve aus Merinowolle

Auf meiner Packliste steht auch immer ein Longsleeve aus Merinowolle. Das Material hat den Vorteil, dass es schweißresistent ist und die Temperatur gut regulieren kann. Das ist sehr praktisch, wenn man nicht weiß, welches Wetter einen vor Ort erwartet. Genauso wie eine superleichte, komprimierbare und wasserdichte Jacke, die sich zu einem kleinen Paket zusammenfalten lässt.

Travel Hack #3: Feuchtigkeitsspray

Damit ich nach einem langen Flug von Deutschland in die USA frisch und wach aussehe, sprühe ich mir gern Feuchtigkeitsspray ins Gesicht. Das wirkt Wunder. 

Travel Hack #4: Seesack

Auf Kurztrips habe ich statt eines Hartschalenkoffers meist nur einen kleinen Seesack dabei. Der lässt sich im Flugzeug leichter ins Gepäckfach knautschen. Und für den Fall, dass ich unterwegs Zeit zum Shoppen habe, habe ich immer eine zusammenfaltbare Mini-Reisetasche dabei. Man weiß ja nie, was man alles entdeckt.
